rise headcanon!

in the future, just after the krang invasion, donnie was able to get an autism diagnosis.

casey wasnt born at this time, he thought donnie just...always knew.

sooo when he goes back and meets present (past?) donnie, he brings it up pretty casually.

"dont eggs trigger your autism?"

and donnies just like "...what."

so thats how donnie finds out hes autistic. from future boy.

casey also accidentally broke the news to mikey about his adhd, and leo about his homosexuality.

"Did you take your medication, Michelangelo?"

"'Course I did, dude, why?"

"You're...really hyperactive, like how you get when you don't take your dexamfetamine."

i’d love to hear some neurodivergent headcanons you have (i am very passionate about neurodivergent headcanons i have so many it’s unreal)

I hc that most of the Donatellos, if not all, are autistic with varying levels. I also hc that 2003 Raph in particular has autism due to the mannerisms he has in the show and I will die on that hill.

My hcs also revolve around every Mikey having ADHD (Bayverse, 2003, 2007, 2012, Rise - which was basically confirmed anyway - 2019/Batman vs the TMNT) /ADD (1987). They simply are not Mikey without it, in my opinion.

As for mutant mayhem (I’ve done a post about this) but in concept art Donnie and Mikey both have autism rep stickers - Mikey on his nunchucks and Donnie on his laptop (? I can’t remember where his was too well oops).

Other than that, I don’t particularly hc many other neurodivergent behaviours in any of the turtles notably, though I do see a lot of hcs for 2012 Raph having IED which is interesting, but I’ve not watched enough to know much about his mannerisms. Obviously I’m not a professional, these are just my thoughts and completely understand if people don’t see it or disagree! I just am quite fond of the Mikey ADHD hc the most :)

When Two Broken Halves Don't Fit.

Chapter 1: Hands are a way of talking.

Warning!

This chapter contains flashbacks, swearing and very slight sewerslide ideation.

Context(?): It has been 5 months since their bond snapped in half. Things have changed. Donnie is quiet, more quiet than ever. Leo has been staying closer to his twin since that day, trying to seem like himself even though he's really hurting as much as the others. But they are both slowly drowning in their own traumas and problems, they need each other way more than they think they do. Time is running out for things to be fixed. The only problem is...

Two broken halves don't fit.

Void.

Nothing.

Cold.

Numb.

Donnie was used to this. It had become second nature whenever he fell asleep. Just him and the silent, never ending black void. He liked the quiet, unlike pretty much anyone else in his family. He could feel himself slipping deeper and deeper...

Until he couldn't.

"Come on, sleepyhead. Wake up." A particularly annoying voice rang out, too loud for the soft shells' liking. He stirred and winced, his body curling into a tighter ball.

"Come on Dee, you really need to wake up." The voice said again a moment later, significantly quieter after it saw how the other turtle reacted.

Donnie could now feel himself drifting towards being awake. He did not want to be awake.

Being awake meant he had to socialise.

Eat.

Act alive.

Be alive.

... Scoff.

But alas, he opened his eyes to be greeted by his annoying 'twin'.

"Was that really so hard?" Leo asked in a mocking tone, smirking as his brother's dull eyes shot him that oh-so-satisfying glare of sleep deprived annoyance.

Oh, how he loved pissing Donald off.

Donnie forced himself to sit up, though the dizziness made him close his eyes for a second.

How long had be been asleep?

"Yoouuuu.. okay?" He heard the slider say in a voice he couldn't quite describe, to which he answered with a small nod of the head.

Silence followed, which caused Don to open his eyes in pure confusion. He stared at Leo with an expressionless face, though there was a slight in of curiosity there.

Leon was watching him with a strange expression. It wasn't exactly worry, but it wasn't his usual cocky charm either. Was it... guilt? Regret? Pity? The soft shell couldn't exactly tell.

It only took a few seconds of eye contact for Donnie to look away.

He wasn't in his own room. He was in Leo's, which either meant that his 'twin' couldn't sleep and begged him to keep him company, or he got lonely himself and snuck in. He couldn't really recall.

"Soooo.. you hungry? Mikey saved your breakfast." The red-eared slider said in an awkward tone, smiling a little as Donnie took notice of him.

If his breakfast had been saved, then it had to have been past 8:00AM.

"Not now. Not hungry." Dee signed back in return, looking down at the blanket over his legs. He heard his brother sigh, and a pang of guilt made itself known in his chest.

To Donnie's relief, Leo didn't pry. He could feel him watching, though. God, he hated being looked at. Everyone treat him like he was going to snap at any moment, and it wasn't nice. Shouldn't they be worried about Leo? Y'know, the dude who literally trapped himself in a goddamn prison dimension 5 months ago?

Nardo was saying something else, but Donnie couldn't hear it over the sudden static in his brain.

Static.

Why would Leo leave?

Static. Can't breathe.

No. This isn't real. He'll say this was a prank in a minute.

Raph is crying. So is Mikey, but louder. Too loud. Too real. The explosion blows a strong wind in Donnie's tearful face, but he doesn't react.

Was it because he said they aren't actually twins?

Did he not do enough to help?

Was he too overbearing with his info-dumping?

What did he do wrong, Leo?

Why did you leave him alone?

Why?

WHY?!

Donnie can feel the warm tear falling down his cheek, and he gingerly reaches his hand up to wipe it. Is that real too? Yes. It's fucking real.

It's all... real.

All the things Leo said are running through his head at such a speed it makes him feel like he's going to be sick.

"Please don't say 'a fix' bro!"

"No one forced you to, Donnie!!"

"Donnie? Donnie- are you okay?"

"I know I say this a lot about Donnie but...

DEMON POSSESSION."

"Where's your.. thing? Your.. emotionless passion!"

"You're one to talk, big bro. Hero moves are totally your style."

The forced, pained chuckle that came out of his so called 'twin' before the comms went out is all that Donnie can hear over the static. Taunting him.

You're never gonna see your other half again...

They aren't twins, but they were born on the same day. They know each other. Well, of course they do, they were brought up together. But Donnie and Leo's bond was different. They both knew immediately when something was wrong with the other, and they were the best at helping each other get through difficult moments.

Now Don-Tron will have to do that alone.

No more "Lee and Dee", just... Dee.

Is it fucked up that the first thing he thinks is "if Leo can't make it past 16, then I can't either"?

Donnie won't settle for this. He won't give up. He can fix this! He always fixes things. He can fix this. He will fix this. He...

He...

Shit.

He can't fix this.

And thats the thing that makes the static abruptly snap off.

He can't feel Leo anymore.

His chest hurts, and he finds himself blindly running towards the dim light that Mikey is creating.

He didn't fix it.

But Mikey did.

"Donnie!"

The soft shell flinched and snapped out of his thoughts, glancing over at his brother's face.

How long did he zone out for?

"Come on, you need to actually get up. Lazy-bones." Leo teased with a smirk, though Donnie could only stare back with a blank expression.

It was something everyone was used to nowadays.

Silence. Sign language. Small reactions.

He rarely talked anymore unless it was with his hands.

Taking a mildly irritated breath in, Donnie got out of bed and on to his feet as Leon walked to the doorway, still smirking smugly.

The turtle pulled his mask over his face and tightened it at the back, letting his back stretch out as he did.

"By the way,"

Don looked over, raising an eyebrow slightly.

"I drank the last bit of coffee."

And then Leo walked away.

Great. Now he had literally nothing to keep him awake.

It was gonna be a long day.

ROTTMNT Headcanons!

All the turtles are neurodivergent. All of them.

Casey didn't let Casey Jr steal her name, so now everyone calls him Junior or CJ. He doesn't mind, he's just glad to have his mom back.

April and Sunita actually knew eachother from when they were younger. There was a time where Sunita stole a cloacking broach? (I forgot its name), ran away for a while and went to kindergarten for a day. Her and April got along immediately. They can't remember meeting before now, but it did happen.

When he was younger, Raph was more... angry. A bit more like the 2012 version. He felt horrible when he accidentally hurt one of his brothers, so Splinter taught him how to channel his anger in a healthy way. He still snaps sometimes.

When he was younger, Leo decided that he didn't like himself. Like, at all. So he changed everything he was until he became what he is now, the face man (and later on the leader).

He still hates how he turned out to be sometimes though.

Mikey not only paints, but also makes sculptures! He uses Leo as a model because he loves making cool poses. A while after they met April, he started using her as a model too because he never saw a human up close and he wants to learn how their anatomy is so he can draw her in the family portraits he makes.

All the siblings have their own way of making art. Donnie's good a blueprints, Raph makes plushies, Leo designs clothes, Mikey draws and April reaaally good at music. Mostly singing.

Donnie made Raph a special knitting thingy because he can't hold the normal ones. His hands are too big.

Leo was bored, scrolling through the internet and saw a video about clothes and thought “huh. I could do something better than that” and it turned out that he could, in fact, design something better than what he saw.

April sings a lot. While baking (she sucks at cooking), when she's playing videogames, in home when there's no one around, etc.

April's mom isn't around much because she has a fulltime job, so April invites the turtles to hang out almost every week.

Casey is really good at strategizing. She's more of a blunt force person but she makes a plan, and a backup plan, as she rushes into battle. She's similar to Leo in that way, so they always play strategy games thing to beat eachother. Their matches last hours.

Leo once was really upset. He didn't know what was the exact reason, but he felt like he was just a liability. So, since most people complained about him always talking all the time, he decided to shut up. It didn't last even an hour, because when he went to get breakfast he realized that when his brothers say that he's annoying they don't mean it seriously. Really, they were so worried about him.

Leo, April and Sunita go to April's house to gossip. They also invite Mikey sometimes.

Leo's actually really good at cooking. He just adds whatever he wants whenever he wants, so sometimes what he makes tastes like a god made it, and sometimes they're so horrible Donnie faints at the sight of it (once. That happened once, and Donnie will never let it go).

Mikey cooks when he's upset. After the Shredder, and also after the movie, he started cooking a lot more. He disguised it as him wanting to let Casey Jr try as many stuff as he can (which is true), but no one really believes that that's the only reason. They don't talk about it though, and Mikey's grateful about it.

The boys have no healthy coping mechanisms. Only like two each one.

It took them a while (years. It took them years) to warm up to Draxum, but once they did, they started to think of him as Dad too. Mikey called him that from the start, but the others didn't. Leo almost cried when he found out.

Leo jokes about disowning Draxum because of the roof incident. Donnie jokes (kind of) about disowning Leo because of everything in his life.

We all know that Raph has separation anxiety, but it got a lot worse after the movie, to the point where he had to know where the others were going or else he'd worry himself sick. It took months for him to relax a bit, but it was still a huge issue.

Mind Raph is actually a manifestation of the boys mystic powers and they never realized it. It's a branch of the mind meld thing (we need more of that. Like the creators told us the boys can link their thoughts and they never talked about it ever again?? The potential it had was huge).

Title: Leo forgets some stuff, but his family is there to catch him (quite literally)

Universe: Rise of the TMNT

Pairings: Leo and his brothers

Word count: what do you want from me?!

It was a relatively normal day for Leo. He got out of bed, did his normal routine (although he thinks he forgot something), and headed to the dojo to train with his brothers. Sure, he was sporting a pretty bad headache, but he would be fine. He probably should have taken some pain meds, but he didn't want to accidentally build up a tolerance to them. You never knew when you might get seriously injured and need them the most.

Leo got to the dojo and saw his brothers already sparring.

Raph saw him and waved him over. "Leo! Come on! You can have next round. You and me."

Leo grinned and walked over. "Oh yeah?" He unsheathed his swords. "Let's do this."

It started out great. Both of them perfectly balanced to keep the fight going for quite a while. However, Leo quickly realized that maybe he should have taken his headache a little more seriously.

After a particularly harsh wave of pain through his skull, Leo tried bailing. "Raph." He gulped. "Raph, I think I need a break."

Raph seemed to only get more riled up after hearing that. "Nonsense. You're fine. You're not even out of breath yet."

"No, Raph, that's not what I-" He broke off with a gasp and everything went black.

Donnie was perfectly content watching his two brothers spar. He noticed that something was off when Leo had one sluggish move. Usually, Leo didn't get slower throughout the fight and just powered through it. If he wasn't, that meant that something was really wrong.

"Raph, make sure you're not going to hard on him. It's just a spar," Donnie called over.

"Right," he responded.

He didn't slow down.

"Raph, I'm seri-" Before he could finish, he was cut off by Leo.

"Raph... Raph, I think I need a break."

Okay, if Leo was admitting it, you knew it was bad.

However, Raph continued to taunt him with, "Nonsense. You're fine. You're not even out of breath yet."

Donnie gulped.

Leo swayed.

"No, Raph, that's not what I-"

"Somebody catch him, he's gonna-!" Donnie yelled.

Raph caught him a moment before he hit the floor.

Leo awoke to someone muttering something. It was distorted for a few moments but as he woke up more, it was more clear.

"Leo, you idiot, why did this happen? Scoff... you really are a doofus sometimes." It was Donnie.

Leo blinked his eyes open slowly and started to sit up. He seemed to be in the med bay. He sat up and looked over to Donnie.

Donnie didn't hesitate to lightly punch him in the shoulder. The term 'lightly' used lightly (pun fully intended).

"Ow! What was that for?!"

"Oh, I don't know, maybe from scaring all of us half to death when you passed out randomly." Oh, boy. He was mad.

Leo gulped.

"I detected that you were low on blood sugar and dehydrated. Care to explain that one, Fearless?"

After Donnie said that, his other brothers entered the room.

Leo sighed. "Sorry. You guys know I have a high metabolism. I didn't think that I had a headache because I needed to eat something. Sorry." Leo shrunk into himself. He really didn't think about that.

Donnie then took his turn to sigh. "Leo, this is why we set up an alarm system on your phone for when you need to eat. Did you not charge it last night?" he inquired.

Ah... that's something he forgot. He also managed to forget to eat. Frick you, ADHD.

"Sorry."

Donnie surprised him by hugging him, his other brothers following his move. "Just don't do that again."

Leo smiled. He was glad someone cared about him.

In honor of my state legalizing cannabis, I'm going to post a long scene from the Rise/Bay crossover RP turned fic I've been writing with @remmushound for years. The Bayverse Turtles are nicknamed while the Rise Turtles are fullnamed. They're all a little older and wiser. This includes Baron Draxum, who takes edibles for the first time with the experienced Bay boys while the Rise kids are napping.

Do you headcanon that Rise!Raph has insecurities about his size?

Actually, no I don't, and here's why.

One of the main themes of the show is acceptance. Don is coded as autistic, Mikey is coded as having ADHD, and Leo is...Leo. However, this is one of the only TMNT iterations where they don't make fun of each other for things that cannot be changed (like Donnie's softshell or his *ahem* forehead.)

Instead, they all love and accept each other as they are unconditionally.

So when it comes to Raph's size, in other iterations he might have been conscious about it, but in this one he's accepted just as he is, so he wouldn't feel the need to change/shrink himself.

If anything, he's constantly working on getting bigger. 😨
