IOTA Reviews: Protection
Tumblr media
In this episode, Lila is once again going to test the boundaries of Marinette's bond with her best friend, Al—Kagami. Uh, yeah, it's Kagami, not Alya. Because it's not like we saw that four episodes ago, right?
Let's get into the sixteenth episode of Miraculous Ladybug's fifth season: Protection
We start off with Kagami hanging out with Lila to establish the fact that Kagami still trusts Lila over Marinette for some reason before cutting to scene where Marc and Nathaniel reveal a plan for Marinette and Adrien to have their first kiss. Somehow, they believe kissing will allow them to be more honest with how they feel about each other based on what they've seen in fairy tales, shoujou manga, and Hollywood romantic comedies. I'm not making this up. Marinette and Adrien go on the Ferris wheel to try and have a romantic moment as part of the plan, only for Nino's terrible guitar playing to ruin the mood.
Nathaniel: Nino, have you never touched a guitar before?
Nino: Uh, no dude. This is my very first time!
Nathaniel: Well, then why did you replace Luka?
Nino: Well, it didn't look so hard when he was playing it!
Hey, to be fair, I'm there's at least a few people think Nino and Luka are the same character.
After the plan fails, we cut to Gabriel and Tomoe having tea as they discuss moving up the date of something called the Diamonds Ball. Gabriel claims its a scheduling issue, but Tomoe is able to hear his heart beating erratically. Because like in every TV show ever made, being blind somehow gives Tomoe the powers of Daredevil. Also, check out what Tomoe compares Gabriel's heartbeat to.
Tomoe: Your heart beats louder than a taiko drum!
GET IT? IT'S BECAUSE SHE'S JAPANESE!
After Gabriel reveals that he doesn't have a lot of time left (even dramatically showing his Cataclysmed arm to Tomoe when she can't even see it), we see Adrien and Kagami talking about how long Adrien was in the dark about Marinette for. All due respect, this is actually a pretty good scene. I like how Adrien admits that he doesn't want to force anything while also admitting that this is something he has to do on his own. It shows off their friendship and how far both of them have come. Of course, it's ruined by the fact that somehow, Gabriel and Tomoe never learned that Adrien and Kagami broke up over a season ago. Marinette is invited to Adrien's house, and in another good scene, she decides to stop worrying about what to do around Adrien and plans to go there in her pajamas.
Meanwhile, Gabriel and Tomoe argue about how their children were supposed to be the perfect couple, neither of them acknowledging that they didn't even know they broke up in the first place.
Tomoe: All of our plans are falling apart! You were supposed to control your son, Gabriel!
Gabriel: And you, your daughter!
Tomoe: My daughter's so perfect she doesn't need me to control her!
Gabriel: Well, it appears she does.
Tomoe: It's not my child who's falling for someone completely wrong for her!
Gabriel: But she seems to be the one encouraging him!
Tomoe: Take control of your son, and she'll have nothing left to encourage. Organize the dance as soon as possible. Don't fail in capturing Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous. It is imperative that this situation be resolved before you... leave!
Where is he going to, the Shadow Realm?
After Tomoe leaves with Kagami, Gabriel talks with Adrien. He tries to convince him to get back together with Kagami because they're “Of the same design”, and when the camera shows Gabriel touching his ring, he forbids Adrien from continuing his relationship with Marinette.
Tumblr media
Gee, I wonder how Gabriel is able to do this. I wonder what he means when he used the word “design” to describe Adrien and Kagami as if they weren't human. I wonder why we keep getting shots of Gabriel touching his ring whenever he orders Adrien around when this show has already established that creations of the Peacock Miraculous can be controlled with whatever object they were in and—Oh my God, just say Adrien and Kagami are Sentimonsters already!
We also get a scene where Tomoe tries to convince Kagami she still has feelings for Adrien, once again reminding us that she's Japanese.
Kagami: He loves Marinette, and Marinette is my friend. Some knots can't be undone.
Tomoe: When the knot cannot be undone, the samurai cuts right through it.
Ah, yes, just like the well-known Japanese legend of when Alexander the Great cut the Gordian Knot.
Adrien follows through on the order Gabriel gave him, until Nathalie gives him another order to do what he wants to do for his love life. For some reason, Gabriel is shocked even though I'm pretty sure Nathalie has had the ring since the end of Season 4, so this one's on you, dude. Meanwhile, Lila lies to Kagami about Marinette being a terrible friend, and once again, Kagami falls for it. Lila tips Gabriel off to what happened, and decides to send a Megakuma (and yes, I know the English dub always uses the term “Megakumas”, but this is the first time in a while where using one makes sense) towards Kagami, akumatizing her into Riposte Prime.
Tumblr media
Riposte Prime is... literally just the same as Riposte, only now, she has a different sword, and not even a cool sword at that. Rather than the sword beams she used back in Season 2, Riposte Prime now has the Turtle Miraculous' Shelter power, which she uses by tapping people with her sword, trapping them in red spheres. Why they're red in the first place when the last time an Akuma used Shelter, it stayed green is beyond me. Even weirder, she can only use one Shelter at a time, and I don't even think she knows about this, since she uses it on Adrien and assumes he'll stay in one place. So to summarize, Riposte Prime looks about as creative as Sole Destroyer and needs the Turtle Miraculous to do something Penalteam had the ability to do with ease.
I also need to point out that the whole reason he did this was to ruin Marinette and Adrien's date. Because somehow, a near-death experience at the hands of Adrien's akumatized ex-girlfriend will convince him that he wants to get back together with Kagami. For comparison, there was an episode of Power Rangers Time Force where one of the villains, Nadira, fell in love with Lucas/The Blue Ranger thanks to a misunderstanding. Do you want to know how Ransik, her father, reacted? Not only was he willing to show mercy to one of his mortal enemies, he showed a level of dedication to his daughter and threatened Lucas to treat Nadira kindly, only going back to trying to kill him after the two broke up. The point I'm trying to make is that it says a lot when a mutant crime lord from the future is still a better father than Gabriel is.
Adrien tries to get Marinette to safety, only for him to be trapped in Riposte Prime's Shelter. The tension from that scene is resolved almost immediately as Marinette is then trapped in Riposte Prime's Shelter, giving Adrien the chance to transform into Cat Noir, who then frees Marinette with his Cataclysm. Marinette gets to a safe place and transforms into Ladybug.
Ladybug uses her Lucky Charm and gets a bottle of olive oil. Her master plan is to... just throw it at Riposte Prime. Yeah, all Ladybug does it throw the bottle of olive oil at Riposte Prime, Riposte Prime then cuts it in half, causing the olive oil to spill on her, leading to her losing her grip on her sword for Ladybug to break.
Ladybug de-evilizes the Megakuma, gives Kagami another useless Magical Charm, but she chooses not to accept it, so both Ladybug and Cat Noir head off to detransform so Marinette and Adrien can convince her that Lila lied to her, leading to her forgiving Marinette.
Marinette and Adrien get another chance to be together, but for some reason, Marinette decides to go home, so Gabriel and Lila call this a win. And so the episode ends with Kagami confronting Lila and telling her that she's not going to fall for her lies anymore.
Kagami: I'll still be your friend if your friendship is genuine.
Oh for fuck's sake...
This is the third time Lila has tricked Kagami, and she's still going to trust her? Why? She caused you to get akumatized three times! Yeah, Kagami claims she isn't going to be Lila's puppet, but it's hard to see this as character development when she was already made a complete idiot for no reason! Hell, for all we know, Lila's next plan is to trick Kagami into handing over her mother's social security number.
But I'm just kidding... because this is the end of the Kagami and Lila subplot for the season. Yeah, seriously. Once again, despite being built up a lot, just like with a lot of stuff last season, the writers decided to abruptly end this subplot, as Lila and Kagami have their own plotlines later on. You know what? Screw it, the episode's over anyway.
Like “Sentibubbler”, this episode actually started off pretty strong, but started to fall apart towards the end. I liked the character moments Marinette, Adrien, and Kagami all had, and it really highlights their friendship, and Marinette and Adrien continue to have some decent romantic chemistry. The problem came from how stupid the conflict was. Not only was it out of character for Kagami to be this gullible, but the entire conflict stemmed from Gabriel deciding to ruin his son's date. The Akuma was underwhelming, the resolution felt phoned in, and once again, the cliffhanger doesn't go anywhere for the rest of the season. It's not terrible like “Illusion” or “Derision” were, but it's still a pretty mediocre episode.
THE BIGGEST IDIOT OF THE EPISODE IS... GABRIEL
Tumblr media
While Kagami came very, very close to getting the award, Gabriel ended up edging her out and became the first character to get the Biggest Idiot Award twice in a row. Not only did Gabriel have no idea his son broke up with Kagami, he didn't even know he started a new relationship with Marinette, forgot that he gave Nathalie one of the two things capable of overriding the orders he gives his son, decided to send an Akuma to ruin his son's date after he learned he and Marinette were dating, even though said Akuma was the girl he was trying to make Adrien develop feelings for again, and he did all of this right after the episode that ended with him vowing to be a better father to Adrien for what little time he has left before he dies. He's clearly spending what could be the last few weeks of his life well, isn't he?

Optimizing Viewing Experience for Love Square Shippers
You guys have previously seen me make a post on the love square screen time records based on the data I collected on how much screen time each love square ship has in each episode and special and in each season exactly and now we're going to be putting that data to more practical use and using it to figure out what are the best seasons, episodes and specials for shippers of certain sides of the love square to watch when binging through Miraculous.
Adrienette
Tumblr media
You don't need to know the exact screen time for Adrienette in every season to know that season 5 is the best season for Adrienette shippers to watch. Not only is it the season with the most Adrienette screen time, but it's also the season where Adrienette finally becomes canon which is yet another plus.
For episodes that feature particularly large amounts of Adrienette screen time you can look to "Gamer" (6 min 28 sec) in season 1; "Riposte" (4 min 14 sec), "Gorizilla" (4 min 11 sec) and "Frozer" (4 min 10 sec) in season 2; "Oblivio" (9 min 3 sec) and "The Puppeteer 2" (4 min 27 sec) in season 3; "Mr. Pigeon 72" (2 min 23 sec), "Psycomedian" (2 min 19 sec) and "Simpleman" (2 min 8 sec) in season 4; and "Determination" (4 min 46 sec), "Transmission" (4 min 49 sec) and "Protection" (4 min 19 sec) in season 5.
In terms of Miraculous World specials, you're best bet is the New York Special which has 7 min 40 sec of screen time which has the whole storyline of Marinette trying remain friends with Adrien.
Ladynoir
Tumblr media
Really you can pick any season since Ladynoir dominates all of them but the best season for Ladynoir shippers would be season 1 which not only has the most Ladynoir out of all the seasons but also has that classic Ladynoir dynamic I've seen certain Ladynoir fans crave in the later seasons: fighting villains and just being a dynamic duo in general, Cat Noir making the puns and Ladybug getting annoyed with him, those kind of stuff.
For episodes with particularly high amounts of Ladynoir check out "Stormy Weather" (6 min 7 sec), "Mr. Pigeon" (6 min 10 sec), "Horrificator" (6 min 8 sec), "Kung Food" (7 min 3 sec), "Animan" (8 min 28 sec), and "Volpina" (6 min 7 sec) in season 1; "Prime Queen" (8 min 19 sec), "The Dark Owl" (8 min 14 sec), and "Mayura" (8 min 32 sec) in season 2; "Reflekdoll" (7 min 19 sec), "Timetagger" (6 min 22 sec), and "Cat Blanc" (6 min 35 sec) in season 3; "Truth" (4 min 4 sec), "Psycomedian" (5 min 40 sec), "Furious Fu" (4 min 57 sec), "Kuro Neko" (7 min 23 sec), and "Strikeback" (4 min 14 sec) in season 4; and "Evolution" (7 min 50 sec), "Multiplication" (7 min 36 sec), and "Passion" (7 min 4 sec) in season 5.
In terms of Miraculous World specials, you can go for the New York special which has 6 min 29 sec of screen time and gives us some good Ladynoir angst with Cat Noir betraying Ladybug's trust and feeling so guilty about that he gave up his Miraculous.
Maricat
Tumblr media
For Maricat, the season of you're choice would be season 4, even though most of the screen time there is concentrated in "Glaciator 2". This season even has the episode with the most Maricat screen time in all of the show so far, that is, "Glaciator 2".
Episodes with particularly high amounts of Maricat screen time include "Evillustrator" (2 min 17 sec) and "Gamer" (54 sec) in season 1, "Glaciator" (3 min 29 sec) and "Befana" (36 sec) in season 2, "Weredad" (3 min 57 sec) and "Kwamibuster" (44 sec) in season 3, "Sentibubbler" (1 min 24 sec) and "Glaciator 2" (8 min 14 sec) in season 4, and "Elation" (5 min 37 sec) and "Protection" (48 sec) in season 5.
Ladrien
Tumblr media
For Ladrien shippers, the best seasons for you guys to watch are seasons 2 and 3, moreso season 2, where Ladrien was at the peak of its screen time until it dwindled into nothingness in seasons 4 and 5.
For episodes with a particularly large amount of screen time we have "Simon Says" (1 min 22 sec) and "Volpina" (1 min 23 sec) in season 1, "Riposte" (3 min 42 sec) and "Gorizilla" (3 min 58 sec) in season 2, "Oblivio" (1 min 40 sec) and "Desparada" (5 min 35 sec) in season 3, "Strikeback" (37 sec) in season 4, and "Passion" (17 sec) in season 5.
Conclusion
Well, that's it. Hope this was helpful to some love square shippers who want to binge through Miraculous.

Dear Vector Prime,
If a bot had a platypus Alt-Mode, would that make them a Fuzor?
Dear Fusion Fun,
The Fuzor known as Duckbuild was often mistaken for the Maximal Diplomatic Corps member Riposte. The discerning Predacon could tell these foes apart by Duckbuild's lack of venom spurs and convenient pouch.

Regarding S5
Is anyone else stating to think that a Marinette, Adrien and Kagami poly relationship would be the cutest thing?

Bernie Sanders has hit back fiercely at Benjamin Netanyahu over the Israeli prime minister’s claim that US universities were being overrun by antisemitism on a scale comparable to the rise of Nazism in Germany.
In a video posted on X, the progressive senator from Vermont – who is Jewish – accused Netanyahu of “insult[ing] the intelligence of the American people” by using antisemitism to distract attention from the policies of his “extremist and racist government” in the military offensive in Gaza.
Tumblr media
“No Mr Netanyahu, it is not antisemitic or pro-Hamas to point out that, in a little over six months, your extremist government has killed over 34,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 78,000, 70% of whom are women and children,” Sanders said.
The two-and-a-half minute video listed a catalogue of further consequences of the war in the Palestinian coastal territory, including the destruction of infrastructure, hospitals, universities and schools, along with the killing of more than 400 health workers.
Sanders, who sponsored an unsuccessful Senate bill in January to make US aid to Israel conditional on its observance of human rights and international law, said Netanyahu’s government had unreasonably blocked humanitarian aid from reaching Gaza, causing “thousands of children [to] face malnutrition and famine”.
In a blistering conclusion, he said: “Mr Netanyahu, antisemitism is a vile and disgusting form of bigotry that has done unspeakable harm to many millions of people. But please, do not insult the intelligence of the American people by attempting to distract us from the immoral and illegal policies of your extremist and racist government. … It is not antisemitic to hold you accountable for your actions.”
Sanders’ comments were a riposte to a video posted on social media by Netanyahu in which he waded in to protests sweeping American university campuses and claimed not enough was being done to combat a “horrific” rise in antisemitism.
Tumblr media
“Antisemitic mobs have taken over leading universities,” Netanyahu said. “They call for the annihilation of Israel. They attack Jewish students. They attack Jewish faculty. This is reminiscent of what happened in German universities in the 1930s. It has to be stopped. It has to be condemned and condemned unequivocally, but that’s not what happened. The response of several university presidents was shameful. Now fortunately, state, federal and local officials, many of them, have responded differently. But there has to be more.”
Netanyahu’s comments came against the backdrop of police deployments to break up pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University and numerous other US campuses. In some universities, faculty members have been arrested, including the chair of the philosophy department and a professor of English and Indigenous studies at Emory University in Atlanta.
Jewish students have reported feeling threatened by the protests and heated atmosphere that followed Hamas’s attack on Israel on 7 October, resulting in the deaths of about 1,200 Israelis and the kidnapping of more than 200 others.
Videos posted on social media have depicted anti-Israel protesters shouting “go back to Poland” and “go back to Belarus”, apparently at Jewish students. A congressional hearing earlier in April into a reported upsurge of antisemitism at Columbia heard allegations that Jewish students had been subjected to taunts of “F the Jews”.
Last October’s attack triggered an overwhelming and continuing Israeli military response that has so far killed more than 34,000 Palestinians – according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza – and led to a burgeoning humanitarian disaster, accompanied by accusations that Israel is committing “genocide”.
In his video, Netanyahu said Israel was being “falsely accused” of genocide and called it part of an “antisemitic surge”.
“Israel tries to defend itself against genocidal terrorists who hide behind civilians,” he said. “Yet it is Israel that is falsely accused of genocide. Israel that is falsely accused of starvation and sundry war crimes. It’s all one big libel. But that’s not new. We’ve seen in history that antisemitic attacks were always preceded by vilification and slander.”
The Joe Biden White House, while resisting pressure to condition or limit weapon supplies to Israel, has voiced frustration over its resistance to allowing more humanitarian aid freely into Gaza and roundly criticised the recent strikes that killed seven workers from celebrity chef Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen charity.
Protests on campuses across the US continued on Saturday, with some protesting student bodies and universities locked in a standoff that saw demonstrators vowing to keep their movements going at the same time as college authorities moved to close down the encampments.
Police in riot gear cleared protest tents on the campus of Northeastern University in Boston, while students shouted and jeered at them, the Associated Press reported. The university said the protest had been “infiltrated by professional organisers” with no connection to the institution, while some demonstrators had used antisemitic slurs.
The picture of campus antisemitism run amok was lent further credence by Lawrence Summers, a former Harvard president and ex-US treasury secretary, who accused authorities at his former university of failing to act decisively against protesters occupying Harvard Yard.
“This is the predictable culmination of the Harvard Corporation’s failure to effectively address issues of prejudice and breakdowns of order on our campus,” he posted on X. “There can be no question that Harvard is practicing an ongoing double standard on discrimination between racism, misogyny and antisemitism.”
Tumblr media
His comments provoked a sharp response from critics of Israel. “Your efforts to portray student demonstrators challenging Israel’s genocidal actions as ‘antisemitic’ are cheap & disingenuous,” wrote Sarah Leah Whitson, executive director of Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN). “These students should be commended for their courage & compassion, risking suspension & smears (like yours), to fight the most heinous crimes underway in Gaza.”

First Half of Miraculous Season 2 Done. Here's my thoughts:
The Collector: A pretty good start! They made the teens smart while still being dumb teens!
Despair Bear: Chloe needs a therapist, arguably moreso than a redemption arc and especially a downward villainous spiral. Also Dangit Grandpa
Prime Queen: Wow, this was a lot more chill than expected. Even Cat Noir was left aghast at what Nadja was doing, Nadja seemed to be pressuring Ladybug and Cat Noir more for views than anything else, and I'm not entirely sure Akuma personalities can be trusted.
Befana: Fun fact: This was the episode that got me into Miraculous in the first place because of how shocking it was. And then I discovered even more. In hindsight from watching the other episodes, it was relatively darker, but mostly because it's Marinette's friends and family that are getting G-rated killed instead of random civilians like every other episode.
Riposte: Kagami is here! I don't see too much chemistry with her and Adrien yet, but she's cool and I like her and feel like I could be friends in real life. Also this feels like a relatively uncommon trope, but I wish "X is blatantly a woman but no one notices" was spedran through by someone with brains.
Robustus: Pretty good, all things considered. From what I've heard about Miraculous lore, creating sapient or at the very least semi-sapient AI isn't that uncommon for weirdness hotspots, and I'm putting Max in the list of characters I think should have figured out Ladybug and Cat Noir's identity. (There's four now!)
Gigantitan: It turns out my favorite parts of Miraculous are the slice-of-life bits instead of the superhero bits the show is about! We got to see more of Marinette's friends! Alix! Mylene! Julie! The Eeby Deeby herself! Also it was really sweet to see Adrien's bodyguard calm down just by looking at the kid. Adrien's true daddy.
Dark Owl: No wonder these two aren't allowed to know eachothers' identities, considering how much of a loose tongue Marinette has!
Glaciator: Alright, it's finally time to talk about the sins of Marinette and Cat Noir, considering the fan content I osmosed before watching the series was heavy salt stuff, and I wanna see how much it holds up. So far Cat Noir has acted as if he's already dating Ladybug previously, and in this episode he got mad at Ladybug for not showing up at a date when she herself said she might not come due to having other plans. Isn't he supposed to be used to not-showing-up disappointment as Adrien due to his dad? Is it different because he's Cat Noir? Is this a breaking point? No matter, he eventually calms down and is ultimately the less bad member of the relationship. Marinette, meanwhile, doesn't have as many misdemeanors to her name but they're a lot worse. She stole Adrien's phone to get rid of an embarrassing message and got away with it too, what the hell, and also owns the schedule. Although I don't believe she stalked Adrien and made it herself due to how busy she is as both Marinette and Ladybug, that's just weird and wrong. I'm reluctant to call her a stalker, but her actions are still wrong. Ultimately, this relationship is going to need a lot of therapy and counseling to not crash and burn. What were we talking about again? Oh yeah. The ice cream episode. I think the ice cream guy can be wrong and he doesn't understand that.
Sapotis: Silly little fun episode, also it introduces the first new Miraculous holder! I'm honestly fine with it so far if it means more screentime for side characters. I honestly really like seeing Marinette's classmates. They're neat. Also I was this close to putting Alya on the list but she proves time and time again that she doesn't actually know Ladybug's identity.
Gorizilla: In this episode we are introduced to Adrien's deranged parasocial fanbase. I'm starting to understand some of his father's decisions at this point. This is what I was talking about with the schedule, by the way. These obsessive stalker creeps make Marinette look reasonable, and I wouldn't be surprised if the one guy who I'm pretty sure becomes Party Crasher discreetly stalked Adrien to get his schedule. Restraining orders need to be filed.
Captain Hardrock: One of the funniest episodes, up there with Dark Cupid. Also Luka is here! And he already has great chemistry with Marinette! And more Rosie and Julie content even if it's crumbs!

The choice that Kagami regretted.
In "Protection", Kagami comes to the realization that she had fallen in love with Adrien again.
Tumblr media
Originally, Kagami was set in her decision to not only end her romantic relationship with Adrien, but also help him and Marinette find their way to each other, as she knew long ago that they were the ones who were made for each other.
(in "Mr. Pigeon 72", Regardless, of Marinette's effort, Kagami was set in her decision to end things with Adrien)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(In "Mr. Pigeon 72", Kagami understood Adrien and Marinette were made for each other)
Tumblr media
And yet, despite previously accepting that a love life with Adrien was likely not meant to be, it was Lila who made Kagami question the choices she felt certain were right, and it all started with resurfacing one simple little emotion, pain.
Kagami used to believe Adrien was perfect and in turn the only one who was perfect enough to be worthy of her love, but it was not until they actually started dating did she realize that she did not know him as well as she thought. Adrien was secretive because of his life as Cat Noir, he distanced himself during important moments to save the day with Ladybug, and his at times undecisive choices disappointed her as it held him back from taking the initiative and saying what he needed to say.
However, in "Protection", as Kagami heard Lila talk about how she too was left broken hearted by a boy she once loved and struggled with the pain of knowing they would never be together, for a split moment, everything Kagami did in regards to Adrien and Marinette came flooding back, revealing to her a truth she had previously accepted, but had not properly grieved and gained closure on, the end of what she thought would have been a long and meaningful love life with Adrien.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Back in "Heart Hunter," Kagami confides in Ladybug that she truly believed she and Adrien had a future together, believing they were made for each other as they were a lot alike. Such a future with him was something she could not give up, even if it was for the sake of friendship. )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although Kagami tried to shrug off her past with Adrien and push away any feelings she believed were unimportant, to instead focus on her friendships and attempts to help him and Marinette get closer, it was a single conversation in the kitchen that would not only change her whole perspective of Adrien, but their lost love.
In the kitchen, as Kagami consulted Adrien over the events of the failed Ferris wheel plan and Marinette's struggles, Kagami witnessed Adrien do something she had never seen him do before, she saw him set aside his doubts and take charge.
As much as Kagami knew that Adrien disappointed her in their past relationship, to see him now in "Protection" proclaim how he should be the one to take care of a problem, all the while expressing a great deal of determination and confidence in his decision, made her realize that he was now far from the person who previously disappointed her, he changed, but it was precisely this change that made her fall for him all over again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Kagami heard Adrien make so much effort to plan something special for Marinette, she was honest when she said how lucky Marinette was to have someone like him, but deep down, Kagami felt a sense of pain surfacing as she heard the guy she once dated make so much effort for another girl, but not show that same effort when he dated her.
(Back in "Lies", it was Kagami who made the carefully constructed plans for the two of them to spend more time together, outside their busy schedules while also keeping their alone time a secret from their parents.)
Tumblr media
(In "Protection", as Riposte Prime, Kagami speaks out about her frustrations and reminds Adrien about his past lack of effort in loving her when they dated)
Tumblr media
As much as Tomoe wanted Kagami to take a second chance with Adrien, she couldn't, because she knew Adrien loved Marinette. Coming between them would not only hurt them, but her as well, they were after all, her friends and she loved them both. However, what Lila told her next, not only made Kagami doubt Adrien's past lack of commitment, but her entire perspective on breaking up with him.
Although Lila's words helped resurface Kagami's romantic emotions for Adrien, and although her own mother pushed her to cut the bonds she made so she could take Adrien back from Marinette, the one thing which held her back from taking her mothers extreme advice, was her sense of moral as she knew it was wrong to betray a loving and caring friend like Marinette, a friendship that was ultimately something Lila took away in an instant with a single lie.
Lila knew Kagami would never turn against Marinette if she did not cast aside the love and respect she had for her, and what better way to do that than by convincing Kagami that Marinette was a fraud. (More here)
As much as Lila's lie convinced Kagami that Marinette was secretly a horrible person who lied and manipulated her since the day they met, what finally crushed Kagami was the belief that she had wasted her life trusting and loving a friendship that was never real. As for the time and effort she spent helping Adrien and Marinette come together, well, all of it was now meaningless as it meant that she had not only lost Adrien, but also aided in helping him start a relationship with someone who was completely wrong for him, something her own mother had strongly believed.
Tumblr media
Kagami had made the decision to break up with Adrien back in “Lies”, but given all that she has seen Adrien accomplish and having now been swayed into believing that Marinette had lied and manipulated her way into stealing Adrien from her, left her questioning if her decision to break up with him was not only too sudden, but possibly the biggest mistake of her life.
( As Roposte Prime, Kagami claims that Adrien's efforts and love towards Marinette is nothing more than the result of her “lies” and “manipulation” pushing him to love her and do more for her, it was not real and he was a naïve fool for ever believing it was )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kagami used to believe she and Adrien were made for each other, and knowing now that Adrien had the capacity to change, was enough for her to question if Lila's words were true, that they truly were the ones who were made for each other and that things between her and Adrien were bound to work out, Adrien just needed more time and help from her to become the guy she always thought him to be and had now become, but for the wrong person.
Even after Kagami was de-akumatized, Lila's words stuck to her, making her believe that any of Marinette's attempts to reconcile with her was nothing more than another attempt to lie and manipulate her way out of trouble. Although she attempted to push Marinette away for "falsely befriending her" and "robbing" her of a life with Adrien she thought was meant to be, it was Adrien who took the initiative and cleared her clouded judgment, reminding Kagami of the truth she lost.
Adrien cared for Kagami and cherished her just as much as any good person in his life, he knew that no matter what it was Lila told her, Kagami knew just as much as he did that Marinette had always proven herself to be a kind and considerate person.

But for Kagami to see Adrien proclaim why it was he loved Marinette, reminded her that true love was something that could not be controlled, the knot that tied Adrien and Marinette together could not be undone, and despite her mother's belief, it could not be cut, not even by her own sword, because no matter how different her friends appeared to be, what they had was real, it was no lie.
Despite the love she and Adrien shared in their past relationship and despite how alike they thought their lives were, the two of them understood they could not ignore the truth, and the truth was that they too were still very different people with their own individual issues, and no matter how they tried to go about it, things just didn't work out between them, because they were simply not meant to be.
No matter how much it pained Kagami to realize that she and Adrien would truly never be together, she knew now better than ever before that she had to learn to acknowledge and sort through her own emotions, to learn to move on with her life just as he did, and accept that no matter what love she had left for him and no matter what future she thought they could have had together, such a life between them would never come to be, Adrien's heart belonged to someone else, and that someone was Marinette.

yo wackus do you have any thoughts on a hypothetical morally grey Kagami?
well... the first thing that occurs to me is that she probably wouldn't think she was morally grey at all. she'd probably be convinced she was in the right.
like look at all the times she's been akumatized!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
riposte - she wanted a rematch with adrien, to beat him in combat, to be the BEST. because that's what her family values are, to be perfect and the BEST.
oni-chan - she was trying to protect adrien from lila, trying to get him out of her clutches and rescue him from her influence
lies - she wanted to expose all lies and liars because lying is a bad thing and what ruined her relationship
ryukomori - she wanted peace and serentiy and dissociation and honestly can you blame her
riposte prime - her goal was to get revenge on marinette for lying to her and betraying her and just being a "bad" friend! she wanted to bring marinette to justice
the thing about kagami is, she has such a strong moral compass, you can only convince her to do wrong by tricking her into believing it's right. she always tries to be perfect, or better than perfect, and the times when she has faltered/been akumatized have been when tomoe, gabriel, and lila manipulated her into doing so.
if she were to become a villain, i would see her as a javert (les miserables) or a miguel o'hara (spiderman: across the spiderverse) type villain. one who's convinced they're on the right side, the just side, and who are trying to uphold a certain moral code. i don't think she is a person who leaves room for gray areas in ethical dilemmas. i think kagami is a very black and white character, and if she believes she's on the right side, then the other side must of course be wrong.

I know you said you're not doing time travel-related episodes in the SLau, but I was wondering where they'd fit into the timeline? Like, which seasons/which episode numbers they'd be using your organisation? Purely out of curiosity, since you're not doing the rabbit miraculous/time travel, and there's no pressure for an answer, just wondering where you'd place them in the timeline

The Lilagami friendship was such a waste since they didn’t even stop being friends onscreen. Presumably after Kagami got turned into an AI, Lila just stopped talking to her? Or after Riposte Prime, Kagami saw through her bullshit? Who knows, the writers certainly didn’t care.
It was just another item in the list of ways they screwed over Kagami

ML au: Lady of Second Chances (Season 2)
(Season 1)
-So Fu introduces himself and Marinette greets him.
-Marinette had thought about this before this meeting. How much she should tell him? Should she tell him.
-After some thought, she decided she should tell him, since she never finished her training and there is more she doesn’t know.
-She tells him that she was his student and that she knows a lot, explaining the cliff notes of what happened to him and what he taught her.
-Fu was surprised and believed her because what she knew about feast and Marianne. She had to be telling the truth.
-Marinette even explained how she made the akuma charms.
-Fu asks how much if the timeline she already altered?
-Marinette explained that she is trying to keep the core events the same, but certain things that were disastrous she can change.
-Fu decides to trust her judgement, but warns her that this could be dangerous, all this knowledge. So be sure that using this knowledge it is for the betterment. Which Ladybug agrees
-First thing Marinette does is tell Fu he should go introduce himself to chat noir and explain his story.
-“he’s trust worthy and all the waiting only causes issues.”
-Fu nods that he will make time after he decides the book.
__________________________________________
-Gabriel still gets akumatized because he wanted to ensure ladybug and chat noir were off his trail.
-Gabriel never pulls adrien out of school since he had no reason to. But he makes up some bs to be mad about it.
-Ladybug tells Chat noir of her theory and just like in canon they beat collector.
-Ladybug gives Gabriel a charm so no akumatizations.
-Gabriel finds out how what the thing he gave her is and now realizes things will be tough since he can’t akumatize the same person 2 times in a row.
-Prime queen happens, but ladybug doesn’t let herself get flustered by the images this time. Ladybug leaves with much more tact and chat noir agrees that it wasn’t cool for this to be sprung on them. Though chat noir does mention he wishes he remembered the kiss.
-“Akuma involved kisses don’t count kitty.” Which Chat noir agreed that next kiss they have it will be unrelated to the akuma. Ladybug smiles and says that she agrees with that.
-Chat noir doesn’t suggest kissing plans, since after his talk with Ladybug, why would he jeopardize that? But ladybug suggests it though just like in canon, it was a fake out.
- despair bear, Gigatitan, Befana, and Frightningale are all the same. Marinette taking Fu’s advice and not altering things too much.
-Riposte has Marinette determine that Kagami won. Since she is a bit more measured around Adrien. Which prevents the akuma, but also does shift how Kagami views Adrien and Marinette. Kagami still has her confidence and doesn’t view Adrien as a flirty rival. Marinette wonders if that correction was for the right call.
-Troublemaker changes. Marinette remembers the live show and hides all her pictures in advance. Also locking her door. Troublemaker happens but Marinette doesn’t end up humiliated. Adrien does check on Marinette because her home was attacked, but it’s less embarrassing for her. Though Adrien knows cause chat noir knows.
-Gorizilla is the same but Marinette is not in her pj’s she actually bothered to change
-Sapotis, Anansi are both the same cause hero debuts
-Syren changed. Chat noir met Fu much earlier so he doesn’t have the hang up he had. Ladybug and chat noir already had the potions thanks to Marinette knowing half the recipes. Syren was beat easy
-Reverser was avoided because Marinette handled the exchange better. No misunderstandings
-Captain hardrock still happened because the reason the akuma happened was stupid. Marinette meets Luka, but after everything she remembered, she thinks just keeping him as a friend is better in the long run, plus mentally she got over him already. So it’s still awkward for her. She manages.
-Glaciator is actually avoided. So Ladybug remembered the confusion that happened over this and tells chat noir she couldn’t make it, but that they could schedule another time. Which Chat noir agrees with. So no miscommunication to be had. Adrien sneaks out to get ice cream with his friends instead of prepping the romantic dinner. Which means Adrien is there and he has ice cream with Marinette. Which also adds more to Adrien’s muddled feelings.
-Frozer doesn’t happen because After riposte, Kagami and Adrien never get that close. They fence but it’s the event of riposte that made it happen.
-Zombizou happens because it’s important for Chloé’s growth. And Marinette still thinks what bustier said was dumb. Robostus and dark owl both happen.
-So Marinette gets to the day of the fashion week. And she had to contemplate if she lets things happen as is or if she fixes it. Marinette decides to alter course. By giving the bee to Chloe. Seeing if this would help change some things.
-Bee Chloe helps and thanks to her they beat style queen. The problem this time was that Chloé didn’t want to give up the bee. Resulting in queen wasp. Just a slight alteration to the plot.
-Gabriel doesn’t give up because he picks up on the fact that the super heroine bee is going against ladybug. He could use that.
-Chloe had ditched her akuma charm as she felt she didn’t need it with her powers. And things took a turn.
-Queen wasp ends up happening and Chloe realizes ladybug is right. Apologizing, saying she just wanted to be exceptional… to make her mom proud.
-So Maledikator doesn’t happen because, due to the events of Queen wasp. Chloe never exposed herself and doesn’t try to gloat she was queen bee. So her presentation was different.
-Sandboy was basically unchanged but Marinette warned the kwami that Hawkmoth was in control and nixed the plan. So less struggle of finding the kwamis
-So this is where things shift. So Volpina didn’t happen, because Marinette intercepted early. Also, it should be noted that Marinette did tell Alya that Hawkmoth might go after Lila if he saw that interview. Which Alya agreed and took it down.
-Marinette is still annoyed with Lila’s lies. But right now she’s harmless.
-Lila never got akumatized and has no hatred for ladybug or chat noir. The only person she isn’t stoked on is Marinette. But like it was only one interruption. So Lila doesn’t think much of it. I guess she sees how popular the heroes are and gets jealous. So Hawkmoth akumatizes her. To get the events going. (And for the sake of laziness, I say sure)
-Hawkmoth had Catalyst make it so he could akumatize a bunch of people. AND ignore the charm. Which because work arounds. It worked.
-Ladybug does assemble her team. But here is the big question. (Which I leave up to you all)

Dear Vector Prime
Do you know of any Cybertronians who have taken echidna or platypus beast modes?
Dear Monotreme Master,
Ah yes, you speak of Riposte and Dugout? Riposte was a heroic Maximal, a high-ranking member of the Maximal Diplomatic Corps. On paper, the Corps was merely one cog in the Maximal soft power apparatus, a means of countering the aggressive negotiations employed by the Tripredacus Council’s Xeno-Relations division. In reality, however, the Diplomatic Corps existed solely to facilitate the insertion and extraction of a small cadre of highly-trained special operatives into high-risk situations that would otherwise jeopardize the interests of the Maximal Imperium—including rogue alien warlords who’d been persuaded, or bribed, by Predacon operatives such as Thinktank to act against the Maximal government. In his role as a special operative, Riposte was a consummate professional: a quick-witted, tight-lipped, ‘bot of action who maintained a cool head in even the most dire situations. On Cybertron, his amphibious car alternate mode allowed him to operate in a wide range of environments; in those rare realities where his mission took him to Earth, he adopted a platypus beast mode, confident that its venomous spurs would serve him well in close-quarters combat.
Dugout was another member of the Diplomatic Corps: although only a rookie member of the organization, he stood out for his unusual land mine alternate mode—while not rigged to fatally explode, any unwary Cybertronian who trod on his unprepossessing form would find themselves on the receiving end of a deadly flechette hailstorm. In combat, Dugout was a gruff, two-fisted warrior, fond of up close and personal combat; in those realities where he adopted a beast mode alongside Riposte, a prickly echidna form suited his defensive nature quite adroitly.

Weeby’s Random Thoughts #11
New AU idea from your friendly neighborhood Weeby! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002
This is based on an idea me and Sparky tossed around a while back. The basic premise is that it’s a shadow version of Paris where everyone is their akuma selves. (To clear up confusion, Sabrina would be Vanisher, Luka is Silencer, Kagami is Riposte, basically just their first akuma if they have multiple, expect Chloe, who would be Queen Wasp.) They’d terrorize the ‘light’ side of Paris, which would be protected by a rogue group of heroes led by the people who are antagonists in canon, such as Lila, Gabriel, Felix, etc. Also, Adrien and Marinette would be Chat Blanc and Miss Fortune respectively. The akumas basically rule the city, with Nadja (Prime Queen) and Alya (Lady WiFi) controlling the media. (They also wouldn’t be their ugly canon akuma outfits, I prefer the redesigns done by Zoe-Oneesama for the Scarlet Lady headers.) All my normal ships would apply, and group dates consist of going out and causing mayhem. What do you guys think?
Leave your thoughts in the comments and reblogs!
