James Potter had never felt so secondary in his own relationship as much as he did in that moment.
Between quidditch practices, last minute assignments and the buzz of the summer approaching that would mark the end of your time at Hogwarts, you and James had barely had a chance to spend more than a few minutes alone. To be completely honest, you had barely spent much time with each other around other people too, outside of the meals in the Great Hall.
It was taking a toll on you both.
You craved your boyfriend. You craved his warm hugs and his infectious laughs and the big smile on his face that would somehow brighten whenever his gaze caught yours.
He missed his girlfriend. He missed the way you would nuzzle into his side and your random rambles and the sweet smell of your perfume that seemed to ease the heaviness of his body.
Maybe it was a little pathetic, but neither of you cared. You just wanted each other, and that is exactly why James had planned the picnic out by the Black Lake during a free afternoon you both seemed to share (well, he was slacking off one quidditch practice but he didn’t tell you that).
Except, now he had you in his vicinity—in his fucking arms—and your attention wasn’t on him.
He had laid the blanket out in a spot with just enough shade for the sun not to bother either of you. He had a basket full of your favourite foods that he bribed the elves in the kitchen to make. He had leaned back against the tree trunk and pulled you against his chest.
And now after lunch, your attention seemed to be on some stupid book instead of him.
It was safe to say James wasn’t taking it well.
“Baby,” James groaned as he leaned his head down on your shoulder, a frustrated huff leaving his lips. “How much longer?”
“Just wanna finish the chapter, babe,” you murmured distractedly, your brows furrowed together as the words on the page seemed to keep a lock on your attention.
“You said that two chapters ago,” he retorted, lips brushing over the bare skin of your shoulder as he focused on placing soft pecks that would usually have you wiggling underneath him. And yet, right now it seemed like you barely noticed.
“I promise this time,” you assured him.
James let out a small scoff, this one a little bitter as he propped his chin on your shoulder and peeked over to glance at the book in your lap. “What’s the big deal anyways? I’ve never seen you so—”
“James, no!”
But you didn’t get a chance to grab the book back from him before his eyes started to glance over the page, his lips slowly parting in surprise as he read a paragraph near the middle of the page.
His hand tightened around her throat, just enough for a whimpering gasp to pass her pouting lips. His lips twitched upwards, the pressure on her neck increasing as his free hand slid down to gently trace her needy pussy over the soaked fabric of her panties. His fingers hooked the fabric to the side before spreading—
But the book was ripped from his grasp and quickly closed shut as you looked anywhere but your boyfriend’s surprised face. Your cheeks burned in embarrassment as you squirmed in your seat, contemplating if it was worth jumping into the lake and hoping the giant squid would put you out of your misery.
You wanted to say something, but couldn’t seem to bring yourself to open your mouth. Luckily for you, James was the one to make the first move to talk.
“Is this what you’ve been replacing me with, princess?” His voice was lower, and a little rougher too. His eyes narrowed in on you, awaiting a response that he already knew. But James liked to make you squirm, he liked to make you say it.
You nodded.
“That’s not an answer, baby,” he tutted disapprovingly, shaking his head. “Use your words. You seem to like them a lot these days.”
“I just missed you,” you confessed, a little breathless and flustered. “And you were busy and I didn’t wanna disturb you so I—”
He raised his brows. “So you?”
“I liked to imagine it was you, it was us,” you admitted in a shy voice, your face heating up in embarrassment. “But it was never the same.”
He tilted his head. “No?”
“You’re better.”
His grin widened, smugness and arrogance dripping oozing from him as he tugged you closer. “Yeah? So desperate for the real thing that you ran to your lil’ books to help?”
You nodded.
“Well, who am I to stop you?” James mused cheekily, enjoying the way your brows furrowed in confusion as he pulled you close until your back was pressed against his chest again. Your thighs were pressed against his, his chin tucked against your shoulder and his arms wrapped around your middle.
“James,” you breathed out, but no further words followed.
“I want you to keep reading, princess,” his voice rasped in your ear, lips brushing against your lobe as he placed the book on your lap. “Read it out to me, hm?”
Your stomach dipped at the prospect. “I—”
“Please, princess?” And when he asked so nicely, how could you say no?
But James Potter was overwhelming in every sense of the word. He overwhelmed you physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. And you loved it. You really, really did. You loved the warmth of his body behind you, his thick arms around you, his curls tickling against your skin. It made you want to close your eyes and bask in his embrace.
Your brain was already moosh as you flipped the book open to the page he had interrupted you on, your cheeks already burning as you read over the words. But then you opened your mouth, ready to continue, only for James to slip his hands underneath the hem of your skirt and every coherent thought in your brain to just disappear.
“Read, princess,” he demanded softly as his hands squeezed the fat of your thighs.
But it was impossible.
It was impossible to keep your eyes on the page, to read word after word when his big, warm hands were pushing your legs apart. It was fucking impossible to read a sentence when his fingers brushed over your clothed cunt. It was so goddamn fucking impossible to care about anything else when he was hooking your panties to the side and giving him full access to your needy, soaking pussy that had been craving him for weeks.
“He dipped his head down, his—fuck,” you choked out with a choked moan as his thumb pressed teasingly slow circles against your clit.
“That doesn’t sound right, baby,” he taunted, his lips brushing against your neck as he slowly worked your pussy as if it wasn’t already wet and leaking for him. “Try again.”
“His lips worked along her thighs as his tongue darted out to taste her leaking arousal,” you breathed out, the words slurring together as you leaned your head back against his shoulder. “James, please.”
“Aw, my poor princess, is it too much?” He cooed mockingly, the smug smirk on his face plastered against your skin as he nuzzled his face further into the crook of your neck. “Maybe I need to listen to that book of yours, clean up the mess you’ve made.”
“Shit,” you hissed, your lips parting in a silent scream as he slowly pushed one thick finger into you, feeling the way you desperately clenched around him. “More.”
“So greedy,” James mused as he watched the way his fingers disappeared between your legs, the soft, debauched squelching noises your pussy was making, just for him. “Didn’t realise how much you missed me, baby.”
“So much,” you whined as your eyes fluttered shut, the book long abandoned to the side. “Needed you to fuck me so bad, Jamie.”
“Shit, honey, can’t say stuff like that,” he groaned, his fingers curling inside you. “Gotta feel you come on my fingers before I fuck you, princess.”
“James,” you whimpered.
“That’s it, baby, be a good girl f’me and come,” he cooed softly as he felt your body tense in his embrace, quickly wrapping an arm around your middle as you arched against him. “Just like that. Atta girl, princess, doin’ so fucking well f’me.”
Your body was still pressed against his when he slid his fingers out, drenched and glistening in your arousal before he lifted them to his own lips, making a point of slurping them clean before his hand fell to your thigh.
“Forgot how fucking good you tasted,” he grumbled into your ear, a little gruff and breathless. “Gonna let my cock have a taste next, princess?”

thinking about some scene from my Prehistoric Mermen AU because i like brainstorming worldbuilding and random stuff
Y/N would probably be asked to send long reports on what they found to be edible for human and what wasn't, how they examined it, how accurate the examination was and how it has been prepared time traveler scientists always had rations with them and were intructed not to eat anything from the geological era they were sent into because of of risk of food poisoning or straight up eating shit that they can't digest
Y/N had rations as well but those ran out after one week or two since they were not made for stops longer than a few days (again for safety reasons, you have no idea what might be lurking in the shadows of a prehistoric jungle or what illnesses dinosaurs got that never survived until our days) so once those rations ran out Y/n had to rely on their inboard analyzer to individually separate the chemical components of plants and animals to determine what they could have eaten and what was going to kill them instantly most of the food they found to be edible was probably sea food, and not because they might particularly enjoy it but rather because going into the forest was not an option and Sun and Moon absolutely bombarding their ass with extra food to make sure their weird land friend didn't starve (and also because sharing food is a sign of affection among predators; Y/n knows this but things Sun and Moon just see them as a weirdly shaped possible mate, like ostriches do in their era with humans)
Probably all of Y/N reports are a bit chaotic, especially the videos
Some videos that they sent slong with written reports include:
Them screaming maniacally that they managed to find something akin to potatoes and that made them "unstoppable" (they weren't properly potatoes an tastes slightly more sour, but still acceptable)
Extremely out of focus clip of them dancing on the beach with a piece of salt they managed to make by drying sea water
Several harpoon hunting videos where all you can hear is them cursing at some smaller predator stealing their catches constantly
A Few videos of them screamind directly at other creatures like calling a 'bitch ass motherfucker' a raptor that showed up, stole their blanket, ripped it to shreds and chased them until they were on top of a tree
first person video of them playing dodgeball in the sea with Sun and Moon using a poor ammonite
First person video of them chasing away a flock of small pterosauruses after the little asses started stealing their food like seagulls
But the reports on their diet always look the funniest because they took the iron as it was hot and made beat the shit out of it, so now each video looks like a youtube mukbang; full on table with food displayed in front of them and camera as they describe what everything tastes like sometimes Sun join them on their improvised table by the beach and snatches a bite because everything smells good, but only Sun because Moon can't stay on land (too big)
Moon however is sometimes visible in the background splashing around in the deeper ocean where he hunts in a video or two he is probably visible straight out jumping out of the water to snatch pterosauruses fresh out of the air, having hands is a big advantage when your natural competitors only have their mouth
Y/N has many other logs and videos of things they did or accomplished, but some of them were supposed to be about other things and suddently stuff happened like a video of them trying to fish and see what worked as a bait and what didn't, and then Moon drops a full ass squid by their side (it was later identified as a Tusoteuthis and luckily safe for them to eat)
as a conclusion: Y/N sending back home to their friends and colleagues chaotic videos of them having a blast with their prehistoric reptile friend Y/n making a log diary of everything they did with Sun and Moon so they can remember them when and if they have/can to go back home

Who Came in With the Sea [VII]
With this chapter we officially entered the last arc of this story! :D I hope you like it ^^

Synopsis: When you’re rescued from a slaver ship by a privateer and his crew, you have to get used to life aboard the Volkvolny as you try to uncover how to avenge your capture and those who you left behind--just as your place in this new world where there seems not to be a home for you anymore.
Chapter Summary: Back in Rakva, there are things waiting for you beneath the waves...

Nikolai was used to navigating through storms, with the dizzying sway of the sea knocking against the ships' hull, as exaggerated as the first waltz opening in a ballroom, the moan-like sounds of ripped sails and strained knots moved by the wind, mist so thick he could almost grasp it between his numb fingers.
But this one was different, and he wasn't sure about the reason why.
That worried him. This sea was unfamiliar, hostile.
Stories flowed inside his head, pouring inside his mind as mercilessly as the rain tapping his skull. Where mermaids used to create this type of storm to lure in their victims, that in any moment another ghost ship would crash into the Volkvolny. Cold fingers slipped down his spine, cradling his neck to whisper:
“Nikolai.” He heard the voice flowing through the storm; a faint mutter that couldn’t get drowned with the inclement thunderstorms tearing the sky nor with the roaring sea pushing against the Volkvolny’s hull.
A familiar cadence, tinted with distress.
“Nikolai, please help me.” Was it coming from one of those dreams tinted in the bloody mud of the battlefield, the voice strained from the gunpowder saturating the air?
No. It couldn’t be.
His fingers grabbed the wet wood of the helm, knuckles white. The rain hit his face with severity, and even if Nikolai’s eyes were squinted to see between the layer of water falling from the sky, strange sleepiness filling his limbs, he couldn't have fallen asleep in such a state.
“Nikolai, right here!” The voice screamed, followed by the swift sound of something—no, someone—hitting the ship’s hull, wood muffling the impact with each upcoming wave tipping over the deck. The black floorboards are tinted in white sea foam.
He recognized the sound right away; had been hearing it in the past three weeks ago when Nikolai first saw you using the plank to jump into the water. And his heart behaved all the same, plunging with you to the blue abyss, thinking that he had failed to protect another innocent life. That he was too late.
His breath drew mist from his mouth as he called back your name, face turned to where the sound had originated. A grim thought loomed, only incremented by the silence enveloping him.
Were you taken just in front of his eyes? How could he have been so careless?
Nikolai pictured the amorph figure of another squid, lurching its tentacles over the deck to take you on its hold, your claws trying to find purchase on the wood only to slip uselessly.
“Nikolai!” The waves reverberated. His grip on the helm grew loose, letting the sea become the guide.
From the navy sea, a flash of lightning illuminated a figure struggling in the distance, barely breaking to the surface.
It’s really you, his panicked mind conjured, forgetting to take ahold of the helm. His body tipped over the railing, but it was too dark to see something as the wind pushed the Volkvolny near at an excruciatingly slow pace. They have caught you.
His hands flew to his belt, where his thumbs enveloped the hold of his pistol, only to realize that the gunpowder would be soaked at this point. At least he still had his sword.
You wouldn’t become another one from his list of regrets. You couldn’t.
Not many stories are told about a human killing a mermaid, but it occurred. Most of the time, the humans cut their tongues to stop them from singing, which would lead them to end their lives after not having another way to lure their victims.
Looking down toward the water, where white foam became black as the Volkvolny rode each wave, he saw something gazing back. Glowing yellow eyes.
A familiar sensation settled in the pit of his stomach, sucking all the air out of his lungs. The grasp of the rail faltered when he froze, fear raising the hairs on the back of his neck.
“Nikolai!” The creature wailed, flashing pointy shark-like teeth, crooked and half-aligned into a succession of gums. A mocking smile. Long claws grabbed his collar when his shaky hand tried to grab the handle of his sword. “Help me!”
Your words filled his mind when the aftershock of the freezing water against his chest robbed him of his last breath of air. Must be the mermaid charm. The real one was magic tricking the human mind with voices that weren't there. Ghosts, if he wished to frighten himself even more, into the deep where there were no escapes.
“Sturmhond!” your scream, your real voice piercing a hole into his heart. A whisper of regret because for a moment Nikolai had fooled himself into thinking that you knew his real name.
*~*~*~*
Help me, echoed through your ears, forcing your heart to do a cartwheel. Your feet stumbled over the last step from the ladder, your hand bleeding from grasping the uneven latch lock as you struggled to stand up.
Looking up, between the veil of rain, you saw a lonely figure toppling overboard. The helm was abandoned, moving back and forth at the will of the waves.
“Sturmhond!” your throat burned from the sudden scream ripped out your ribcage.
Half-running, half-bumping into the railing, you made your way toward the stern, where the captain had disappeared. Looking around, you took a fishing hook the size of your hand. The siren’s melody still floated in the air, reminiscent of soaked, red sand and a grey sky on a clear summer day.
You took the raincoat off, already stepping over the railing to jump before fear could cloud all the rage boiling as you remembered your home burning, their pale figures watching in amusement, sated of the traitors’ punishment.
From the corner of your eye, you saw Tolya and Tamar scrambling out of the latch. You couldn't think about explaining to them what happened before you were enveloped by water, bubbles, and foam clouding your vision.
The siren was near, you could sense her. A cold presence, the feeling of being watched in an eerie stillness. The Depth's power ran through her, already craving the human presence the siren was about to give it.
You called your friend the squid, finding it healthy and recovering from all this time you were out of the water. Its giant eye observed you for a moment before swimming away, only leaving a current of bubbles behind for you to trail.
Down, down, down… The water became colder, the darkness thicker. Your heart squeezed. He was in too deep. Even if Sturmhond was a capable diver—and many pirates were only good swimmers—he would need to breathe before breaking into the surface.
You swam toward her, which only makes her dive further, Stumhond's body working as leverage to sink faster.
Your heart was flooding your ears with blood, the pressure of the abyss too much to withstand, each heartbeat feeling forced, slow, yet forced.
From the trail of bubbles, her tail left behind, you extended your arm, hands grabbing the hook as you lurched it down, the pointy end getting caught in a scale before scraping down toward the tail’s end.
Mermaids and sirens bled, the mermaids a liquid red-like-blood, that wasn’t as dense. Sirens bled almost black ink, even if you couldn’t see it now, you felt the threads of liquid sticking to your arm as you pressed your body weight on the wound, feeling each outline of scales being ripped open.
The siren was ready to attack, long claws hovering over you, but stood still. Her grasp on Stumhond grew loose as she waited for her wounds to heal.
You took him by the coat, grabbing fistfuls of his shirt as you tried to stop his fall. He felt cold and rigid on your hands, dread sieging your senses so much you didn’t notice when your tail started transforming back into legs.
Until you tried to swim, only to realize you weren’t moving as much. And Sturmhond was suddenly much heavier than a moment ago.
As the siren bled, you were forced to be turned human again for your betrayal to your kind.
You kicked with all your might, feeling your muscles straining from the effort as Sturmhond's clothes slipped from your grasp. You needed the push of your tail, you needed to give him air—
Cursing the Depths in your head for its stupid rules, you tried to communicate with your friend the squid, only to realize that it wasn't following your commands. Staying still in the darkness, sending bioluminescent signals to frighten whatever was in front of it.
A thing that filled a gargantuan space—was that the Volkvolny? Impossible. It was too deep.
With horror, your numb senses caught the same essence of cold and old waters from the creature. The siren’s familiar, a being that once had been a killer whale, now transformed more into a rotten sea beast found in the old tales. White eyes that would only fool you into thinking of blindness, multiple rows of uneven teeth though all just as deadly.
Its skin wasn’t smooth, and the scars were covered in moss and algae that seemed to tangle all over its tattered fins. It looked more like the rough skin of a reptile, white and black replaced by a dull greenish gray.
You tried to shelter Sturmhond’s body with yours, but the animal wasn’t aiming at him, when its body launched upward, toward the surface. Toward the ship.
It was an infernal eternity when your tail finally returned, and the siren completely healed. You sensed around the waters, feeling the presence of her gone.
She went for the biggest prize, the ship full of human lives to offer the Depths if you were oh so dedicated, so selfish at wanting to save only one of them.
Because why save them at all if all of them were only valuable sacrifices, tokens for your creator, the Depths?
Your teeth bit the inside of your jaw when you pushed Sturmhond upward, anger giving you a rush of adrenaline to keep going even if your arms screamed as your tail swam toward the surface.
The squid enveloped a tentacle around the whale’s body, using its rows of suckers filled with teeth to leave a bloody trail across the unnatural shades of grey of its skin. It slowed the impact, though you heard the creaking of wood nevertheless.
You felt your tail starting to become legs again, still too far from the surface, every upcoming wave sinking you into cold water again. Against the bolts of lightning, Sturmhond looked paler.
You decided to pull him upwards one more time, pressing your lips against his, cold and almost blue. This wouldn’t do.
A mermaid’s kiss was both a curse and a gift in the folktales. Allowing humans to swim with them, in those rare tales in which a human and a mermaid fell in love; or a curse as in most cases, the humans would have been already lured to the water by the mermaid, using the kiss to lure him further down, in which the humans would sacrifice themselves to the Depths unknowingly, wishing to follow their heart’s desires.
But to work, he had to be awake. And you had to be in full mermaid form.
You pushed him upwards, his head barely breaking into the water as the current drifted you all toward the feet of a cliff, a rocky coastline which boulders raised against the waves like rebels remains against the almighty of the Depths.
“Wake up!” You screamed against the roaring sea trying to drown your voice. “Please, wake up! Sturmhond!”
The waves made your head dip into the sea, a sudden pain in your left hand the only proof you had to know that your friend had been injured. A natural reaction between animals that usually couldn’t grasp the Depth’s wishes when survival instincts kicked in.
The beast trying to topple over the Volkvolny wailed, the singular song of metal singing across the air arriving to your ears. You weren’t too far away to see the protruding of a metal pole inserted into the animal's skin. A harpoon.
For a moment, you had forgotten that the Volkvolny was a whaler.
Along with her familiar, the siren broke into the surface, her mouth open as a song flowed through the air, the storm suddenly becoming quiet.
You were frozen, torn between going to stop her or staying with Sturmhond. But what would have occurred if you let him here? He would die.
“Sturmhond, please wake up,” you said, voice broken. Not you too, please don’t him. Not another one of the ghosts that would forever haunt your dreams. "I promised... I promised you a kiss. Please wake up."
At least make his death valuable, the Depths, or maybe your mind, whispered.
Part of you, the one jealous of the siren’s power, wished to do so. To please the Depths, enjoying the powers such a magnificent human life given to the Depths would give you. There is no other way.
You saw him twitch his head upward to stop water from entering his nose when Sturmhond regained consciousness. Already feeling your hold of him slipping, you dipped your head to meet his lips once again. A mermaid kiss that would keep him safe even if you couldn’t.
His eyes fluttered open, hands grabbing your shoulders.
“Sturmh—” you tried to say, brain already scrambling for an explanation.
He coughed. “Am I dead?” he said, and you slapped him, your hand hollow to avoid scratching his face. “Ow. Alright, alright. One would never know.” Sturmhond looked pale and cold, but even in such conditions, you could see the tiniest hint of a smile.
“If only I had known this is what takes for you to kiss me, I would have done so much sooner,” he said, and you couldn't glare at him.
“I thought I had lost you,” you breathed, feeling your eyes prickle with tears.
Sturmhond looked at you, gaze soft and filled with something so tender it made your stomach fill with warmth and safety, in a bubble of tranquility in the middle of the tempest.
“You will never lose me, my pearl,” he muttered, his hand reaching to cup your cheek as if he wished to say something more, instead gazing at something over your shoulder. His hands quickly dragged your body underwater when a harpoon was shot in your direction.
You cursed, feeling childish for the way you could get so easily distracted by this man. Even below the waves, you could hear the siren’s song flowing through the air the moment you swam away from Sturmhond, toward the Volvkolny. Your first response was to sink the ship, to use your friend to embrace the wood and make it crack open like an egg.
But inside there were people that cared for you, your friends, even. Within those walls was the possibility of a new beginning.
You broke into the surface near the siren, too close. One of the harpoons grazed your arm, your jerking movement making the aim go toward the siren’s shoulder. Her scream crafted a wave at the other side of the ship, so high it covered the sky.
Yellow eyes looked at you with a blank stare, and yet you could sense the hatred seeped into her magic suspended on the water, barely a command away from tumbling against the ship.
Sturmhond appeared behind the siren, on his hand flashed the edge of metal. He plunged the blade into the siren’s neck, lightning showing ink blood falling from her grayish skin and mixed into the water.
The siren screamed, drowning her alluring song. You felt the blood slipping from your eardrums.
A moment later, a harpoon sang in the air, a cold blow of air passing next to your shoulder, clawing its way toward the siren’s heart.
You held onto your breath, the world stood still, so quiet you heard Tamar’s relieved sigh, the clank of metal when the weapon was thrown against the deck. The giant wave collapses as if made of broken glass.
The siren looked at you with the same mix of shock and horror, the wail of her beast accompanying the remnant of her cry as her body disappeared with the upcoming wave, decaying algae and white foam swept against the hull and then lost forever.
*~*~*~*
The storm disappeared as nightmares did with the first rays of sunshine. A clear blue sky expanded into the horizon, the sun bleeding copper and gold into the sapphire waves, a splash of red peeking through the waves as the squid followed the Volkvolny’s foam trail as it broke the water.
You felt the cold floorboards of the deck being warmed up by the sun under your thighs, sipping warm brandy and tucked into a blanket as if Sturmhond weren’t the one with lips of a light blue shade—not because you were particularly looking at his mouth, anyway.
“I’m alright, love. Keep it,” he said when you offered the blanket. “Unless you’d like to share it with me.”
So you did, giving him the other end to grasp with his free hand. Now, you could feel the slight tremble of his arms and thighs against yours, the shiver and terror not fading still.
For a moment, you feared he would get afraid of the ocean because of what you had dragged him into.
You were alone with Sturmhond on the bow, with Tolya taking the helm while Tamar charmed the crew talking to them of how they had defeated a legendary siren, that their captain was as charming as to lure those creatures out their refuges to seek for him.
The ship had to navigate carefully between the rocks protruding from the sea floor, the cliff welcoming you with its grey walls filled with saltpeter, moss growing over the edge that met with the water.
Sturmhond played with the empty glass, swirling it between his fingers. “I must have known it wasn't you," he said suddenly when you were looking at Tolya maneuvering the ship so it wouldn’t get even more damaged.
You looked at him, but he didn’t meet your eyes. “It’s not your fault. That’s what we do, how we’re made.” If we are powerful enough, you wanted to add. You weren’t, not yet—and that greedy afterthought settled, ugly and unwanted inside your mind.
Maybe it would be better if you were punished by the Depths once your vengeful plan was done, to lose this part of you every time would grow avid for more.
Coyly, you patted his leg, ignoring the feeling of hotness that settled in your being when you felt him jumping under your touch. At least you felt anchored.
“No, you wouldn’t do that,” Sturmhond replied, his tone wounded.
The ghost of a smile appeared on the edges of your lips. “No. I wouldn’t,” you agreed.
He leaned his elbows against his knees, curling himself against the blanket. “Not that I mean to pry, but… does this mean you only have one siren left?” he said, trying his best to sound nonchalant.
You nodded, biting your lips. “Yes. Even if part of me wished to ignore it all and remain here. I can’t do that—not after what happened last night.” You had almost got him killed. Twice, now.
As if reading your mind, he chuckled. “At least you’re keeping my life interesting.” Sturmhond shrugged. “I’m used to people trying to kill me, so don’t feel bad about it, lovely.”
“That doesn’t make me feel better, no.”
He gave you a smirk. “Would it help if I tell you I enjoyed your kiss?”
“It wasn’t a kiss,” you lied. “I was trying to give you air.”
“How noble of you," Sturmhond teased you. "I should keep you as my nurse if I get to have more of your stellar treatments.”
You pursed your lips together to stop them from smiling back at him.
“You’re pushing it, I warn you,” you said, then added: "Maybe I shouldn't give you more kisses, that would teach you a lesson.”
“I thought you were just giving me air, angelfish,” he replied, the sunlight reflected on his hair like threads of gold. Then, Sturmhond put his hand on his chest. “And all this pleasant conversation has left me breathless.”
You clicked your tongue. “Good. That would shut you up.”
He nudged your shoulder with him, and for a moment you wished to rest your head on him, to just look at the seascape all day until the reminiscence of black blood and a raging storm disappeared, replaced by this sea, by the warmth laying inside this blanket, inside his arms, too.
“Do you know what else would shut me up—” he started, raising one eyebrow.
“Captain…” Tolya interrupted, eyes dark with worry. "We have to pass through this bay to arrive at the city, but…"
“Well,” Sturmhond said with a fake chuckle, looking at your stiffened figure from the corner of his eyes. “Couldn’t get more foreboding.” He looked at Tolya. “We should arrive at the city before dusk. It shouldn’t be much problem to bump into the rubble.” Not after scratching the hull against solid rock, Sturmhond wished to say, but Tolya could read it right into his eyes, so the Grisha just nodded, returning to his place behind the helm.
Last night was something not as pleasant to remember outside the crafted tale braided out Tamar’s lips.
You saw the familiar beach filled with swept-up rubber; wooden planks calcinated, smoke stains between the rocks, and patches of grass that were starting to regrow. The dock was gone, with the polls flanking the wood boards loosely floating against each leap of the waves. Houses like corpses, empty carcasses where life used to be, dark windows where the sun would not reach, broken furniture; little remains of the lives that were so unfairly taken.
A lump crept up your throat, your chest oppressed by the weight of something dear being lost.
Sturmhond slid his hands on yours, cupping them as his fingerpads, rough from working so long on the sea, rubbed your knuckles in slow, comforting circles.
“I’m not akin to vendettas,” he had told you after telling him your mermaid’ story, with him laying in bed next to you, his heart lulling you between the sound of your hiccups ripping through your chest. “But I want to help you with this. I want to help you find peace.”
Right now, peace seemed so far, at the other side of a sea in which you could only cross walking. An impossible, foolish task.
“I’m here with you, my pearl. I’m right here,” Sturmhond cooed against the shell of your ear, allowing you to twist your torso against his, hands surrounding the small of your back. “You’re not alone.”
Sturmhond kissed the top of your head, and you allowed yourself to call him a sanctuary, even if just for a moment, to nuzzle your head against his shoulder and let your tears embed into his shirt, there where the ocean couldn’t see you.

Zero Men - Volume 1
Now that I've finished 0-Sen Hayato, this manga was next on the list, another oldie. At least this time it's by the Godfather of all manga, Osamu Tezuka. I think this is his first work I've ever read??? Apparently no one cares about it because there's very little English material on it. Oh well, the main character is cute!
Ch. 1
Omg I'm loving this so far! The art is so dynamic and cute and the dialogue is really colorful too. The protagonist Ricky is adorable ;w; I love his tail.
That was a pretty badass and hilarious opening with the two soldiers fighting a pointless war while also low key bonding over a baby they saved.
Ricky crying when his dad told him his tail was something to be ashamed of broke my damn heart! Glad the dad isn't fully evil though. Just misguided...
Kind of weird that the dad is like "I swear I'll find you a doctor!" Like dude...you've had many years to do that and it probably would have been easier when the kid was an infant.
Ch. 2
Obvious parental death is obvious. Ricky sure got over it quick lol.
So, so far we know that 0 men can survive extreme temperatures, are really fast learners, and have great agility. I think this is an Elfen Lied scenario where they're supposed to be "evolved humans." Making them squirrel like was kind of a weird choice but oh well.
The professor's design where he basically just has a cloud for a head reminds me of Dr. Uranus from Cyborg 009. Peak old dude character design lol.
Losing one dad and then instantly meeting your real dad is pretty wild. The emotional whiplash made it all feel kind of rushed and silly. It's nice that Ricky doesn't feel like a freak anymore tho. Kind of an ugly duckling story.
Ch. 3
Woah, suddenly the story gets very different. Forget the evil scientists, it's time for robot demons apparently! New bad guys are Enma (Buddhist God of Hell) and Satan. Fun for the whole family!
Enma kinda looks like one of the guards from Squid Game lol, simple but menacing
The scene where Enma and Satan make an entire lighthouse disappear and the keep jumps out to save his life was effectively frightening. I wonder if that guy will come back as a witness?
All of Tokyo is ripped apart and put back together in like an hour and everyone just shrugs it off!? I know Japanese people can be complacent, but not THAT complacent!
This chapter felt like an anti-communist message with every house being exactly the same but "something's missing." I googled it and apparently Tezuka was a communist, but only for a short time before he changed his tune, so it's still possible that's what he was going for.
Ch. 4
So apparently the professor is a good guy now (despite first impressions) as he teams up with Ricky to investigate Enma.
We learn that 0-men are closer biologically to squirrels than they are to humans...riiight. The adults definitely looked more squirrel-like at least.
Pretty savage of the professor to shoot up his friend with a gun to "check if he's human" (including a shot to the head!?) Reminds me of the original Stepford Wives when the MC stabs her friend in the crotch.
The way Tezuka draws the prime minister feels very Looney Tunes. He's very rubbery.
Ch. 5
This manga is very text heavy so the average chapter takes me a bit to get through. Luckily, the Japanese has been very easy so far! (Rare for an older manga...)
Ricky and the Professor escape the clutches of King Enma who was planning to kill them if they didn't reveal the whereabouts of the 0 men. They end up in the forest where Ricky finds his mom and dad again. They ask Ricky to return to their country with them but he turns them down because he's vowed to be an "ally of humanity."
I can see why King Enma wears a mask...he's pretty dweeby looking under there. I like his mad scientist hair though. The fact that his face is a little disfigured gives Darth Vader vibes.
Ch. 6
Ricky and the professor try to alert the public about King Enma's take over. People start to be swayed, but then Enma just kills anyone who tries to join the resistance, so they don't get very far. By the end of the chapter Ricky is captured again by another power hungry person after the 0 men. Gdi Ricky...
I know it's for plot convenience but Ricky's tail pops out so easily that you'd think they'd come up with a better strategy for hiding it than stuffing it into his pants by now.
Ch. 7
Ricky splits up from the professor and finds himself captive on a boat. His 0 men parents come to save the day (apparently this was like a 0 men slave ship) and they knock out their captors.
Ricky just did a dramatic goodbye to his parents in chapter 6 and now he's back with them again? Make up your mind, story!
I was proud that I was able to read the kanji 船長. The videos I've watched of Marine-Senchou (vtuber) helped me out with that one.
We end the chapter in the jungle of the Himalayas. Maybe we'll learn more about 0 man culture?
Ch. 8
Uhhh wtf!? Ricky's dad just dies in an avalanche and they're like "meh, whatever!" Seriously Ricky and his mom recovered from that way too quickly. He might not really be dead, but they believe he is!!
It was cool seeing how the 0 men have been evading humans by living in a place that's only reachable by their species. That felt believable. I bet their land is nicer than the weird place Ricky was living before anyways. No dictators (I hope lol)
Ch. 9
Lol my previous statement was immediately proven wrong in this chapter. Ricky basically went from living in 1984 to Brave New World. I quickly went from enjoying learning about 0 men culture to being like...oh...that's not good.
Kind of confusing that Ricky's mom would intentionally bring her son into this world if she knew how messed up it was? She even is like "here's our apartment where we'll live as a big happy family" but then Ricky learns that kids are separated from their parents super early in this world and sent to live in a children's village. Like...did she not think of that??
Why was chapter 9 like 3 times longer than chapter 8? Well, I've been enjoying the kanji reading challenge. This manga has no furigana...
Ch. 10
Man this story is cyclical. They escape, they get captured, they escape, they get captured. Tezuka also seems to have ditched who I thought was the main villain for now. Will this whole thing be episodic or will we get a real plot?
They come across some yeti in their travels who say "yeti yeti" like Pokémon lol. I wouldn't mind seeing them make friends with all the cryptids, but the visit was very short.
Ricky's mom asking him to shoot her tail off with a gun was pretty dark. It does seem like it would make their lives a lot easier to remove their tails (in hopefully a less painful way), but I guess it's the principle of it.
Dude at they end looked like a Cyborg 009 character with his giant buttons and fancy hair haha.
Ch. 11
And just like that we gain another random party member (and Ricky's mom gains her 2nd adopted son in like 2 chapters). Ricky and Pete bond over their daddy issues.
I was wrong, they did bring Enma back. He reveals that his new, Communist version of Tokyo was inspired by the 0 man way of living, so I guess that explains that.
Like I said, we're going in circles here. Now we're back to looking for the professor Ricky befriended in earlier chapters. After the gang finds a safe place to live, then what? Are they going to save the world from oppressive regimes? Is the goal to just be a normal, happy family?
Ch. 12
So apparently the professor they eventually find is some kind of fake (even though he passed Ricky's needle test). Can Tezuka decide if this dude is a good guy or a bad guy already!?
Kinda funny how when they found a safe place to hide out they're like "now let's confront the evil people!" Like...weren't you running to hide from the evil people? Well I guess heroes gotta hero.
Ch. 13
So now it's doomsday via Mt. Fuji erupting. Although the gang succeeded in destroying Satan's clone factory, they now need to worry about the fate of humanity.
The version of this that I got from Bookwalker is 4 volumes but MAL has it at 7 volumes, so this must be an omnibus. I wonder where the original volume 1 cut off?
That first volume was kind of all over the place. The plot progression didn't feel all that natural, but I think this was one of those stories that was supposed to be a one-off and then got expanded, so whatever. Let's see where things go in volume 2...

Merman Eddie, please!
WIP Weekend Game: Make Me Write!
Way more than three sentences, but I like this segment a lot.
“Take it all,” the first mate said with a shrug.
Steve did, and as he returned to the room, the creature seemed content enough to take the fish as Steve fed each piece through the small opening they’d left in the top for this purpose. As he removed the squid from the burlap sack, though, the creature darted toward the glass, all but salvating with those sharp teeth on full display.
“You want this?” Steve asked as he held it up, the weird texture foreign against his fingertips.
The creature jerked its head in a rapid nod, sharp-tipped hands grasping at the opening even before Steve had put it through, more dexterous than he’d expected considering the webbing in between fingers.
He moved carefully, half-afraid he’d lose a digit of his own if he let them get too close to the merman’s eager claws.
Steve watched, nose wrinkling slightly as the creature practically ripped the squid in half.
It was only after he’d observed the merman devour the squid and one of the other fish that a realization struck him over the head.
“Hey!”
The creature all but jumped in the water and looked to him.
“You understand English.”

Callie?
First impression: Honestly it’s been so long I don’t really remember what I first thought of her… aside from that she (along with Marie) was cute enough to prompt me to get the first game when I was originally going to pass on it. I have been changed forever (for the better? who knows)
Impression now: She’s such a sweetheart, full of love. Callie doesn’t have an evil bone in her body (well, if she had any bones at all). Doesn’t mean she isn’t prone to mischief, though. She’s outgoing and generally loud, but she seems like the sort of person who can pick up how other people are feeling and will tone it down if they don’t seem to be in the mood for her antics (most of the time). Would definitely do her best to cheer someone up if they were down; I feel like sometimes she gives a little too much of herself trying to keep people happy, though (which is likely part of what led to S2).
Favorite moment: Hrrmmmm… honestly, her S1 naughty vs nice dialogue is very memorable (Marie: I’m plenty nice, you know. I care about— | Callie: Yourself? Winning? Insulting me on live TV?) but idk if it’s my favorite… S2 had some good Callie moments (especially after reading the Squid Sister Stories), and I liked her boss fight. S3… I liked how clingy she was with Marie (Callie keep your hands to yourself challenge: impossible), it was cute! The scene where she jumps on Marie was extra good to me ‘cause I headcanon her as being a little taller than her cousin and kind of buff (rip marie).
Idea for a story: Don’t know if I really have any atm… I’d thought about writing something for hypnoshades Callie but. I’m not sure I’ll ever get around to it.
Unpopular opinion: Also not sure I have any? I feel like she’d probably forgive Octavio faster than Marie would after the events of S2, but I think that’s a pretty common opinion. Likely has some Octarian/Octoling friends (side note; her Octarian is also better than Marie’s, partially because of her time with them).
Favorite relationship: MARIE! Package deal, do not separate. Her and Marie have the best dynamic, they compliment each other so well. From their color schemes (black/white) and personalities (peppy/calm), to their squid inspirations (bigfin reef squid, reflects and is drawn to light / firefly squid, casts light) and weapon preferences (roller/charger) they’re perfect opposites of each other— but in the way that they fill in each other’s weak points. My girls………
Favorite headcanon: Gonna cheat since I already mentioned this, but Callie is reflective! Her tentacles and eyes especially, but she’s got spots along her cheeks, shoulders, back, and the outsides of her thighs that make it look like she’s got big glittery patches. As the bigfin reef squid is also attracted to light, I like to think that’s also why she kept putting the hypnoshades back on (aside from gameplay reasons).

Thank you for answering my questions! They're so detailed! One more: how did new agent 3 meet little buddy and why did they decide to stick with them?
(Ill refer to my neo 3 as harper bc neo agent 3 is a mouthful so is neo3 to me and n3 can be misread as just 3 so. ^_^)
As a child, harper always had an interest in fashion, though due to poor advices, they ended up in modeling. for fashion designers. After a while, the weird life and the diets were too much to bear, and they realised they much prefered creating clothes first and foremost, (though their acquired modeling skills would come in handy, much cheaper to pose yourself than paying for a model. So theyre not too mad about it... they guess)
Unfortunately. When someone quits their job . They quit having money LOL. buying materials to make clothes and all.. that costs. They. like many other squids and octos in need for cash did turf matches battles and all of that. But they started to hate the place they lived in, harper wanted something new for a fresh start. They felt stuck! And so lonely.
So They said goodbye to their previous life, and took the train to splatville. with the little cash they had left, they could afford only a few nights at some shitty hotel before shit hits the fan severely.
After they arrived at splatville, harper dropped their bag in the room and immediately picked any and all quick job they could find to afford a few more nights at the hotel, then to afford to share an apartments w a roommate or two...( better be realistic.). Then to just... pay their share of the rent.
Deliveries, odd designing gigs. battles.
and salmon runs .
their last salmon run had been... a disaster, to say the least. Shit teammates, shit, shit shit shit. They were so mad ! So so mad and they looked at the ground, desperate to find a pebble or a can or anything to kick with all the strength they had left in themselves. They didnt find Jack shit, funnily enough.
They went home, still as pissed off.
Saw their shitty roommate who stabbed them w a fork just last week, decided to just go to the bathroom and take a shower and like. rot in there hopefully.
In the bathroom they drop their duffle bag to the floor, open it to take their towel n stuff...
And its ripped to shreds, what the hell ? They rummage thru the bag a bit more and. Something bites them
Oh ok i am just losing it they think. They move their hand away from the bag annnnd. A smallfry is hanging on to dear life to their hand.
Wait. A SMALLFRY?? OH MY GOD THE SALMONOID INVASION IS REAL- oh hey he looks kind of. Sad. And hungry....
they felt really weird. And their previous thoughts of "throw that little thing back where it comes from" from like 0.2 seconds ago suddenly made them feel very guilty.
Harper hears a loud clack of the main door to the apartement and realises their roommate left. So they go to the living room, searches for smth in the fridge and gives him some food that he immediately eats. After that its mostly like. Oh ok i give that little fry some coddamn food and all and i hide it from my roommate. Also you are my little buddy so it is your official name now :)
Anyway one day . Like a week after they found little buddy they lose their septum piercing and after looking for it for 3 hours straight harper decides to give up and cry in a corner because that bitch was expensive (for them...) when they hear little buddy jumping around... he walks away and they follow him. Only to see him... glowing?- OMG MY PIERCING.
And they realise that little buddy wants to help them like they help him :") and its then that they truly become best buds.
Harper was very lonely before, but now they got a friend :^) even if he still rips their clothes up sometimes

I realized the other day that we never really get any backstory for Stampy’s helpers (or Stampy, for that matter). They all just kind of appeared on his channel, being bright and happy and helpful. So I decided to make up some backstories for them. Enjoy!
iBallisticSquid
Warnings: none
Fandom: mcyt (?)
Category: Fluff?
A/N: This is a longer fic. Sorry ‘bout that! I had so much fun writing it :)
-Masterlist-
The first thing Squid remembers is the village which he was born in. The prismarine walls and kelp-thatch roof were a common sight around the village, but to him, it was still unique. The phosphorescent lamps that illuminated every street and house glowed blue in the salty water, attracting small fish and shrimp.
Squid enjoyed catching these small creatures in sea-glass bottles, dropped from the terrestrial world above. He and his friends would swim about, capturing ‘pets’ which their parents would inevitably make them release later. Growing up, he was always a social sea creature, making friends with the other half-sea creature villagers at the school and in the rest of the town. Because it was a small village, everyone knew everybody else. However, his best friend was a pink haired mermaid called Amy.
His first time seeing the world above the water was when he was eleven or twelve. He and Amy had swum away from the village, picking corals to weave into kelp chains. They heard thunder up above them, then shared a slightly worried glance before turning back towards the village. They could feel the water getting choppier around them as they swam faster, attempting to get back before the worst of the storm hit.
It was no use. A rip current swept the two of them, clinging to each other, towards the surface.
When their heads broke the surface of the water, the first thing they could make out through the torrential rain was the glow of buildings, much like their own houses, on the shore, not a hundred blocks away. Because of their half-human bodies, they could breathe, though it was shallow compared to their breaths under the water. Knowing that they couldn’t swim down, Squid dragged Amy out towards the shore.
Even with their combined strength, it was a struggle to get to the beach. As they pulled themselves up onto the sand, gasping for breath, Squid peered around at the houses. He couldn’t see anybody around, save for the occasional oblivious passerby.
“Who are you?” The voice from behind them caused both to jump. A human-cat, orange with a white stomach, paws, and ears and green eyes, crouched under the eaves of a nearby building, watching them eagerly. He looked about the same age as them, maybe twelve or thirteen. He looked over the both of them, tail flicking excitedly.
“I’m… Squid,” He panted, wincing as he dragged his legs up out of the ocean. “This is Amy. We’re from one of the underwater towns.” The cat gasped delightedly.
“Cool! I’ve always wanted to see them. I don’t like water much, though.” After a slight deliberation, the cat stepped out into the rain, offering them each a hand. “I’m Stampy.” After helping them up, he stepped back under the eave, looking out at the ocean. “Some storm.”
“Yeah, I don’t think we can swim back until it dies down,” Squid said nervously. “I hope our parents don’t worry too much…”
“You can come home with me if you’d like,” Stampy offered. “My mum runs the local inn. She helps travelers all the time.” Squid looked out over the sea, then at Amy, who was standing timidly behind him.
“What do you think?” He asked quietly. She shrugged.
“Better than staying out here. Plus, he seems nice,” She said quietly. Stampy smiled.
“You flatter me! I can’t wait to introduce you to my sister.” He continued talking animatedly as he led them away from the beach.
Stampy’s mom’s inn was a pretty building with flowers around. Squid and Amy followed him through the door, looking around the small lobby area. It was a nice space, with a small sitting area and a brick fireplace. He was more focused, however, on the taller cat on one of the sofas, whom he assumed was Stampy’s mother. She was a gray cat with a white stomach and paws and emerald eyes the same color as her son’s.
“Stampy! I was beginning to worry,” she said, standing up. Her eyes landed on the two fish-people, curiousity settling in her eyes. “And who might this be?”
“This is Squid and Amy,” Stampy said, gesturing at each in turn. Amy offered a small wave. “They’re my new friends, from the underwater villages. They got caught in the storm. I was wondering if they could stay until the storm dies down.” At this, mother cat smiled kindly, waving a paw.
“Of course they can! So glad to meet you two. You can stay as long as you need, and with the rain, it’s unlikely that we’ll be getting more guests. If you do end up staying overnight, we can give you the room right by Stampy’s and Netty’s. His sister,” she added after a questioning glance from Squid. He nodded gratefully.
“Thanks, ma’am,” Amy said quietly. Mother cat nodded again before returning to the couch. Stampy motioned for them to follow him up the stairs.
“Netty, this is Squid and Amy. They’re from the underwater villages,” Netty, a gray cat much like their mother but with dark eyes, hopped up excitedly.
“Hello! Ooooh, what are they like? The villages, I mean,” Netty asked. Slightly taken aback by her immediate trust, Squid told her about their villages with Amy jumping in from time to time, Stampy listening in.
Hours passed, the rain lightening into a cloudy haze. Squid looked out the window, realizing with a start that it was nearly dark.
“We have to go,” he said, standing. “Stampy, thanks for everything. We’ll visit soon, if that’s okay,” Amy stood by him, nodding. Stampy, looking sad, also stood and nodded.
“Visit really soon, okay? It’s nice to have friends.” With that, they left for the beach, Stampy walking along behind them.
———
From then on, they’d swim up to the surface every few days to talk to their new friends. They’d go on walks around the nearby hills, catch fish in the shallows of streams, and climb trees in the forests around the village. After a while, Stampy eve, managed to get his hands on some water breathing potions, and asked them to show him their village.
“Wow, its so shiny!” He said, looking at the prismarine walls of their houses. “Can I meet your parents?” Squid nodded, leading him inside.
After a number of years had passed, Stampy informed Squid and Amy that he was leaving the village to go build anew. They parted with the promise to see each other again.
After many months, Squid and Amy set out for their friend’s new town, which he was calling ‘Lovely.’ He had sent instructions on how to get there in a letter, but the journey along the rocky coast was difficult.
It was all worth it the moment Squid’s eyes met the emerald green eyes of the friend and brother he hadn’t seen for a long time, and saw the city he had built for himself.

Ch.3 The Woman With the Blue Hair Vol. 1-The God of Hentai
In the distance Lilith could see a fiery light seeping through the clouds of snow! They zoomed in on the cult with their digital binoculars to get a better look.
There were about 20 Cultist in plague doctor mask dipping what appeared to be young girls of all different ethnicity's in an Icy Pond after locking them in a rectangular cage. They were also all chanting something which could vaguely be heard as "repent....repent" in front of an alter of a Giant squid trying to summon the elder beast!
The Woman in Blue stepped in firing her P90 as they raided the camp... Her and Lilith looked at each other regularly during the fight to make sure they wouldn't be double crossed by eachother. "Did she really care about her like that?" Thought Lilith her cock extremely hard!
There was still a cultist trying to run away with a young boy! Stop! Lilith threw her Knife into his leg and blood began to gush! Pre-cum started leaking from her pathetic four and a half inch excuse for a penis!
He began to chant ancient words not spoken in many ages.... A word long before words. Hameous Mora was a living god upon the page of of the world. "Chucky was simply a puppet then in an even more devious plot" Lilith thought to herself gazing at the statue which was shaking myateriously
~Leaves blew wildly around in the air~ YM UH DU KU KUN HEL the cultist said and jumped off a cliff side but Hameous Mora caught him and lifted him back to the surface.
She threw the rest of her grenades they caused it to stumble and then the agent w/blue hair would fire rounds at the creature. Then Dykanthrope sunk her teeth into the legs ripping them off before the robotic Shark launched a devestating fart bomb... Though it was too late as the being filled Dykanthrope with her dark, cursed oozing green slimy acidic seed!
Meanwhile Vallery had jizzed in her dress. "Let's run away before we Inhale the nuclear fart device. The were launched about 49 feet by the intense explosion into the frigid ocean, penguins gathered around them....finally it was over! We had won....for now!
They ran past a lab of a bunch of dead fetuses that had been aborted by the A.I. it said "ABORTION FACILITY" in multiple different languages. The fetuses were being thrown into a large furnace where they were "recycled" into stem cells. There were even live A.I. abortions happening in front of them all.
~was it really all over though or was this just the beginning~
-End of Pt.1
I hope you all enjoyed this, just so you know I don't condone any of this in real life. It is entirely a work of fiction...I hope!

i like this blog
i animated a shot of an orange/black snake monster eating a man.
hello, and welcome to my weekend horror stories. every weekend, i'm gonna write some random spooky story i came up with because i'm bored and stuff. you'll know what is the story and what isn't because quotation marks decided it would be a very good idea to exist.
"he was stuck, and didn't know what to do. the beast was banging on his bedroom door, and he was trapped. he looked for ways to escape. for some reason, his room was the only room in the house without any windows, so he couldn't jump out of any. the vents were too small for him to crawl into, but then he remembered that the entrance to the crawlspace was in his closet, so he ran into the closet, and shut the door, as the beast finally broke through the bedroom door. the boy hid in the closet, as he heard the beast looking for him in the room. he entered the crawlspace, hoping the beast wouldn't hear him. he heard the beast break through the closet, and enter the crawlspace. the boy hid, praying to god that it wouldn't find him. then silence. suddenly, the beast ripped his legs off using his jaw, and the boy was never heard from again."
my little sister has been obsessed with the "fred the beard" video by rwappin lately, and she has been begging me to show it to her every single day. me, i'm more of a fan of "everything you know is wrong". i have nothing more to type here

reader being witty and sarcastic when talking to Sirius and he can't help but murmur, 'she's so hot'
he's such a sucker for teasing and then it gets turned back on him and he just 😵
-
"Fancy meeting you here, L/n," the voice sends your stomach twisting, but out of dread or excitement, you can't tell.
You look up to meet Sirius Black's eyes, glancing around at the classroom you both sit in for six hours every week.
"Black, we've been in this class together for years, and you're surprised to see me?"
Sirius' grin falters, and his friends snicker from behind him, "Nevermind that, wanna be partners for today's lesson?"
"I'd rather jump off of the astronomy tower into the black lake and let the giant squid rip me to pieces."
Sirius's eyes widen continually throughout your very detailed admission, but he manages to spin even that around, "Seems like you've thought about that a lot, am I always on your mind like that?"
"Only in my bloody nightmares."
“Well I’m afraid you don’t have time to get to the astronomy tower before the lesson,” He plops down beside you, “so you’re stuck with me.”
“No, no, go sit with one of your mates, please, I don’t wanna deal with this right now.”
“Too late.” Sirius grins, gesturing up at Professor Slughorn, who begins speaking as if on cue.
You huff, slumping over in your chair so that your chin rests lazily on your hand. You spend most of the lesson like this, until Slughorn finally instructs everyone to begin brewing their potions. You flip open your textbook, skimming the ingredients list and scribbling down its contents. You slap the scrap of parchment onto the desk beside Sirius’s hand, not bothering to look him in the eyes as you turn back to the empty cauldron.
“Black, would you go and fetch these for me?”
A grin appears on Sirius’s face at your small interaction, and he stands hastily, “ ‘course. Be right back.”
You’re granted only a moment of silence before he returns, neglecting his seat beside you and instead electing to lean against your desk, sleeves rolled up his arms and tie dangling into the cauldron.
You reach a hand up to save it from being dipped into the already-simmering liquid, tugging on it to steer him back around to his seat. This only riles him up further, and you don’t dare look in his direction, not wanting to egg him on.
“Jesus, L/N, I didn’t know you were this kinky. I mean, really, you’re acting like I’m a dog on a leash.”
“Black, if you were my dog, I’d have sent you to the pound already.”
He turns away, but you hear a faint, “So bloody hot.” that makes your stomach begin twisting again.
”Did you just admit to finding that hot? God, you have issues.”
You can hear Sirius’s friends laughing from behind you, no doubt eagerly waiting until class was over so that they could tease their friend, but you go back to working on the potion, ignoring their taunting, and especially ignoring the smirk on Sirius’s face.

- He would want to do anything he could to protect you and isn't afraid of showing it.
- He may try to make himself look fabulous while doing it, though, only for you.
- Would try and wrap your wound up with a chunk of his shirt.

- 100% blame himself.
- Should have used the eyes he has installed in the back of his head so he could have stopped you from getting injured.

- Would try his best to help you as much as possible.
- Hand holding is a must.
- Won't let you suffer alone.

- "I should have been there to stop it." "Please forgive me."
Tumblr media

- If worse comes, she would ask Gi-hun for help, or even Ji-Yeong.
- Would glare at anyone that comes too close to you, but she wouldn't let you see her like that.
- Would be too shy to hold your hand but would want to as a way of comforting you.
- Please hold her hand.
Tumblr media
- Would do everything possible to make sure you wouldn't be hurt, but also try to make it discreet because equality.
- If you were on the verge of dying, he would strut into the room with his gun in hand and say good night to the poor soul that decided to attack you.
- If you were hurt and he noticed you going to the bathroom, he would give one of the guards a first aid kit so they could give it to you.
- He would sneak in some 'leftover' food the guards could give to you, although it's a bit suspicious when the so-called 'leftovers' were only given to you, even if you weren't at the end of the line.
- Also a bit more suspicious when the so-called 'leftovers' aren't actually 'leftovers' because now one person is crying about not having food.
- Frontman just shrugs it off.
- Would 1000% risk his own life for yours.
- Carry you into his room and rest you on those rich blankets.
- Doctor on speed dial.
Tumblr media
- At first, the only reason he had come was to find his brother, but once he saw you, he now had the pressure of protecting you.
- During the second round, you 'accidentally' get nudged over to the triangle line.
- Overall, try an avoid you from getting hurt in the first place.
- Straight over to you when the doors open after the night where everyone is attacked.
- Wouldn't let you know that he was there because he doesn't want you to worry too much and cause yourself to panic and lose the games.
- In the games, he would try and stay close to you to watch over.
- Helps you wrap up a wound in the bathroom but still won't make himself known.
- Happily shoot anyone that tries to hurt you.
- That would be the only time he makes himself known.
- Takes you with him when he tries to escape.
- For this, we will pretend he doesn't die, and he goes with In-ho.
- Makes In-ho promise not to hurt you before he follows.

“I’m not very good at flirting, am I?”
Warnings: Cringey attempts at flirting?
Pairing: Remus Lupin x Reader
Words: 2k
Summary: Remus is nervous for your first study date, or date? Is it a date?
Tumblr media
You were quite oblivious when it came to people who fancied you. Howard Lewis, from house Ravenclaw, practically had heart eyes for you and attempted to ask you out every Saturday morning whilst you drank your tea. The only response he was given was a hum and a sweet reply back,
“I’m not planning on doing anything but reading my novel,”
You frustrated a lot of boys in your year, and even in the year above. You must know, right? You must’ve known that at least half of your house and even more boys from the other houses have tried to flirt with you and received nothing back. But you didn’t. You loved blind. And, not to mention, quite peculiar as you obliviously ignored your suitors. You spent days feeling quite lonely and even longed for a handsome fellow to sweep you off your feet and into the forbidden forest. Remus Lupin thought you were peculiar as well, but not peculiar as in a bizarre fashion, instead, he thought of you strangely amazing. He found himself gifted the seat to the right of yours during Transfigurations and was kept his glances towards you to only a few per minute. He was smitten. And he was speechless when you approached him one Saturday morning, unaware of your rejection to a Mr. Lewis of Ravenclaw, and asked him to study with you.
“Hello Remus,” you said, he greeted you politely and with reddened ears, he knew he would get teased for later, “I was wondering if you were not too busy after lunch if you could help me study a bit of Transfigurations. I find it actually quite difficult and would rather McGonagall not deducted points from my house.”
Remus nodded quickly and stuttered out, “Yes, I. Where should I meet me? You? I mean, you.” he quickly wanted to slam his face into his porridge but you seemed to enjoy his response and giggled.
“There’s a tree near the lake; if you bring your textbook I can bring a blanket for us to sit on?” you offered, “I swear I have the comfiest blankets in my dorm.” Remus sent you an embarrassed smile and watched you longingly as you spun and left the Great Hall, a steaming mug of tea in your hand.
Sirius clapped his hand on Remus’ shoulder rather harshly, he’d say, and let out a bark, “How the hell did you do it?” Remus snapped out of his gaze to look at his three friends who stared at him in wonder.
“Do... what? Exactly?” Remus begged his face to go back to his original pale colour and stirred his breakfast with a spoon.
“I believe you have a date with a Ms. Y/L/N.” Sirius grinned boyishly and hooted, “Remus, how did you do it!”
“Sirius, get your hand off me before I feed it to the giant squid and leave your body for dessert, and it’s not a date,” Remus grumbled and shifted awkwardly in his seat.
“No, really, mate, how did you manage to get a date with Y/L/N? How did you get her to ask you on a date?” Peter pushed closer to Remus and jokingly added, “Oh Moony, you know love potions are illegal to give to other students, correct?” Remus shoved Peter aside and looked for James for help.
“It’s not a date! Prongs?”
James put his hands up in defense, “Not me, Moons, I can’t help you as I think you’ve just scored yourself a date with Y/N. But, what I can help you with is Lewis as I think he’s going to absolutely fuck you up by the looks of it,” James stood up and did the ‘I see you’ motion towards Howard and yelled, “Oi, Leeeeewis, you jealous? Yeah, you better be. Fix your bloody eyes, mate, you’ve got a starin’ problem!”
This time, Remus actually did slam his head into the breakfast table.
Lunch flew by and Remus couldn’t do anything but fiddle. He had run to and from the common room and dorms, a few times just to ensure he had all the right things. To say he was nervous was an understatement. Was this a date? Did you want to date him? Why him? Remus flopped down on the couch next to Sirius and buried his face in his hands.
“Alright, I give up. I need your help,” he mumbled,
“You? Ask ME for help? The god of dating and sex himself?” Sirius asked dramatically, placing a hand on his chest and inhaling sharply.
“Oh will you just- sod off will you? And just tell me, exactly how you flirt?”
“Moony we only have a few hours, I cannot possibly teach you the essence of the Black seduction in a few hours.”
“The only thing you’ll be seeing is black unless you-”
Sirius shot his head back and laughed, “Relax Moony, perhaps we should do some yoga to loosen you up. Are your buttocks in a twist? You can tell me.” Suddenly Remus regretted asking Sirius for help but took notes on his flirting technique anyways.
“Oh hello! Come join me, please!” Remus felt everything he had eaten and all of his organs drop, his tongue swelled up and he began to sweat under his sweater. Seeing you in the fall light made him internally (and externally) swoon but he attempted to take a deep breath. He began to try and mimic the way Sirius walked through the halls, putting swagger in his hips. “Remus, you’re being silly, perhaps you’ve been spending too much time with your silly boys, come sit! Don’t be shy.” You smiled again, making Remus forget the stupid stupid walk he learned from Sirius and just sat down.
“You were right,” he said in surprise, “this blanket is extremely soft.”
“Would I lie to you, Mr. Lupin? Feel free to lie on it, I’ve taken a few naps on it ‘mself, though I probably should’ve focused on my potions essay instead.” Remus would rather nap on your soft thighs and feel your fingers slide through his hair, but he chuckled and replied,
“If I did, who would study with you?”
You pouted your lip slightly, making Remus clench the book he was taking out, “I suppose you’re right. I couldn’t fathom studying with anyone else.” Were you flirting with him? You seemed to lean closer to Remus, wanting to feel his warmth. But, Remus couldn’t place whether or not you were acting flirtatious due to the immense amount of nerves in his system. The two of you began to study, Remus would provide a word and you a definition. Much to his nervous delight, your conversation ran rather smoothly and no awkward lull of silence was provided.
Might as well go for it, Remus thought and glanced at the piece of parchment he tucked away in his bag. He cleared his throat and rubbed his sweaty palms on his pants.
“So, Y/N...” he trailed off, almost getting lost again in your gaze,
“Yes?”
“You’re so cute, I think if, I think if you were, I think if you were a boggart, no,” he fumbled quickly with his words making you furrow your eyebrow.
Perhaps he is having a stroke? You thought.
“If, I think. If you were a... since you’re so cute, and if, a boggart you were, or I’d have... you’d be a.. cute... one?” If Remus could die, he would’ve. On the spot. If he could be struck by lightning and guided to the pearly gates that muggles seem to dream about, he would. In fact, he would even rather be sent to the fiery pits of hell than listen to what he was saying. His attempt at flirting had gone disastrously as he licked his lips in anticipation of your reply. He watched as you looked at him and began to blink rapidly. A wide smile spread across your lips as you let a small laugh slip out.
“Remus Lupin,” You began, sitting up, “Are you flirting with me?” You continued to giggle, almost shyly.
“What? No! I mean, yes. Maybe? Because I said, the boggart, and cute and...”
Remus Lupin, you are an idiot. He thought
“I’m not very good at flirting, am I?” he stared at your smiling face before realizing how mortifying the last minute of his life was. “Excuse me while I jump into the lake now.” You bit your lip to stifle the laughter and held his forearm.
“Remus,” you said softly, “I thought it was quite lovely actually.”
He sighed and shook his head, “you don’t have to protect my feelings, Y/N, I’m more than happy to die over his embarrassing moment. I feel like a right and foolish prat right about now.”
“I’ll say it again, I thought it was very sweet. I’ve never been flirted before, so it was new for me as well.” Remus’ eyes nearly bulged out of his skull as he became redder and shook his head.
“No no, that’s not true. I know half a dozen Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs who are mad for you! And Howard Lewis even asks you out every Saturday!”
Now it was your turn to be confused, “What are you talking about, Remus?”
“The... the!!” Remus was exasperated, “boys fancy you.”
“No, they don’t?” You began making Remus want to rip his hair out.
“Yes, they do!”
“Remus, no boy has fancied me in the entirety of my life, you must be mad.”
“Well, I fancy you!” He blurted out making you instantly blush,
“Oh.”
“Yes. And. I’m terribly and dreadfully awful at flirting but I wanted to try and show you that I do actually, um, like you.”
“Oh,” It became quiet, not silent, but quiet. “Well, I,”
“Y/N, you don’t have to say anything, we can forget about it and just study.” You tried to speak again but he cut you off, “Really, it’s okay. It was foolish and stupid and dumb and immature-”
“Don’t I get to say anything, Mr. Flirtatious?” You teased and brushed off your skirt, “I fancy you as well if you didn’t pick that up already, and truthfully, I did find your flirting, while disastrous, to be extremely and utterly adorable.” Remus blinked before an awkward, toothy smile rose. “I’m glad we got that settled then, yeah?” You nodded at Remus before he continued after you,
“Now, may I at least ask you a few questions?”
You hummed in response.
“So is, is this a date?”
“Do you want it to be?” you asked,
“Yes.”
“Then it’s a date.”
“Lovely,” Remus felt more and more joyous, “now, did you really not know that every boy in Hogwarts was pining over you?”
You quickly shook your head, “Why would I? I haven’t given a care about any of them until you came ‘round.”
“And the blanket?”
“I brought the blanket so we could read and lay on it,”
Remus was satisfied with his answers and longed to lean in to kiss you. He, and his absolutely dumb-witted nerves, decided to save it for a second date and held your hand instead. Fingers threaded and interlocked, you gave him a reassuring squeeze.
“That reminds me, do you have that extra book in your bag I seemed to have misplaced mine and I-” you reached into Remus’ bag and before he could react, you pulled out the piece of parchment with all the bloody pickup lines Sirius had fed him.
“Is this...?” You asked,
“Yes.” He quickly answered. Your eyes scanned the page in amusement.
“Why didn’t you go with ‘Are you a snitch? Because you’re the greatest catch here,’ I think that one is much better suited than ‘uh, cute, boggart, uh, you, and if I were,” you mocked him jokingly before leaning back comfortably on his chest. He could sing with happiness and leap off the face of the Earth.
“Hey, so maybe flirting isn’t my strong suit.”
“I say this as sweetly as I can, I think you better stick to Transfigurations instead.”

New Girl on the Block (8)
(Thank you all so much for your love and support during this fic! I hope that you all enjoy this next chapter and be sure to check out the mini series connected to this called Journal Entries!)
Ch.1 / Ch.7 / Ch.9
Chapter 8: Lost and Found
Lost.
Felix was utterly and hopelessly lost.
He stalked the aquarium aisles, looking this way and that for the rest of the group. How did this even happen? Allegra had had an iron grip on his wrist. He was certain of that. Yet somehow, he runs into one person- one person! -and just like that, everyone’s gone!
Felix tisked, annoyance quickly rising in his mind as he turned down another aisle. Briefly separating wouldn’t have been that bad. In fact, he welcomed the moment of silence at first. Aside from the occasional person who bumped into him, no one was yanking on his wrist or dragging him along. The problem arose, however, in the realization that he’d been aimlessly searching for them for thirty minutes now. After losing sight of them for a second! Did they truly walk that fast or did they leave him on purpose? It wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened.
His hands clenched into fists, and a scowl tugged at the corner of his lips. He was this close to climbing on top of heads-
A light giggle caught his attention, faint but there, coming from the southern side of the room.
Felix whirled around, his eyes darting through the crowd. He recognized that laugh, but where was she?
His gaze landed on a pair of pigtails a moment later, and he nearly sighed with relief. Even with the dimmed lights of the aquarium, he could make out Marinette’s small figure standing in front of a smaller aquarium not far from him. He didn’t see anyone else with her, though. Where were the others? Did she get lost too or were the other people blocking them?
Felix moved forward to approach her. With the trio or not, he’d finally found someone from the group. That was his main concern. Besides, she didn’t seem worried about being alone, unless cooing at the glass and laughing was a sign of nervousness. (which, for her, it wasn’t.)
“You look like you’re enjoying yourself.” He commented as he stopped next to her.
Marinette jumped, as usual, and let out a squeak of surprise.
“Oh, Felix!” She gasped. “We were looking for you earlier.”
Felix hummed, glancing down at the octopus that was crawling along the rocks in front of them. “Yes, it would seem that ‘keeping up with the group’ wasn’t as easy as Allegra had claimed.”
A nervous chuckle tumbled from her lips, and she tucked a strand of hair behind her as she said, “Yeah.. we thought about texting you, but Claude said that you would catch up eventually.”
Felix scoffed. He should have known that Claude would be the one to prolong his suffering. Looking around for the brunette once more, he noticed that they were indeed alone. (Save for the large crowd swarming around them, that is.)
“How did you get separated?” He asked, merely curious. The group’s left him several times, but he doubted they would abandon Marinette so easily. Something else must have happened.
“Well, I was originally trying to look for you,” she explained, “but then I ended up getting distracted..”
She snorted. “I swear I stopped to look at one turtle, and by the time I turned around, everyone was gone.”
Felix offered a nod. He knew all too well how that went.
“At least we found each other.” He pointed out.
Marinette smiled up at him. “Yeah! And I found this adorable octopus!”
The way she said ‘adorable’ was similar to the babying tone of someone who was speaking to a dog, and she turned to the tank to wiggle her finger at the creature. Felix thought it to be somewhat.. endearing.
“.. Did you know that an octopus has three hearts?” He asked, strangely wanting to encourage her enthusiasm. Normally, when Claude would start rambling or bouncing around about different subjects, it would annoy Felix. With Marinette, though, that.. simply didn’t happen. Perhaps it was because she was quieter about it?
Marinette gasped, her sparkling eyes shifting back to him. “Wait, are you serious?”
Felix nodded. “They also contain blue blood.”
Her jaw dropped open. “No way! How do you know that?”
“I’ve read a few encyclopedias.” He admitted with a half-shrug. “They’re a lot more interesting than people give them credit for.”
“That’s so cool!” Marinette nearly squealed. “Tell me another one.”
Felix stared at her for a moment. That might be the first time someone’s ever willingly asked for him to recite facts without a sarcastic tone. He didn’t think he would be this pleased about it.
“Well..” He began, mentally sifting through the pages of books that he’s read. “Their limbs are actually called ‘arms’, not ‘tentacles’. The term ‘tentacles’ is reserved for squid, cuttlefish, and nautilus.”
“What?” Marinette blanched. “No! My whole life is a lie!”
Felix smirked at her dramatic groan. It had been surprising for himself when he first read it too.
“Tell me another one.” She said after rubbing her hands over her face.
Felix let out a small laugh. “Are you sure? You didn’t seem to like that last one.”
Marinette waved off the comment. “Yeah, yeah. I can take it. Tell me another one.”
“Alright, another fact..” Felix muttered, his gaze flicking upwards in thought. “Ah.  Each arm has a mind of its own. Some two-thirds of the octopus’ neurons reside in its arms, which allow the arms to react to stimuli and function at a fairly high level on their own. This fact applies even when one of the limbs is severed from the body.”
Marinette scrunched up her nose at the image of a severed, octopus limb still twisting about.
“How do you remember all of this stuff?”
Felix clicked his tongue. “I think the information is interesting, and I enjoy being knowledgeable. So I make it a point to remember everything that I can while reading.”
Marinette nodded thoughtfully. “That makes sense.. Do you know facts about other animals here?”
Felix tilted his head back and forth, trying to recall the animals he’d passed while searching for the group. “Most likely. As I said before, I’ve read a handful of encyclopedias, along with a book or two on Marine Biology.”
She lit up with a grin at the reply and reached down to grab his wrist. “Great! That means you can come tell me more facts!”
Felix was pulled forward, and a part of him held his breath, waiting for the indignation and disgust to set in from being grabbed. It always happened. Allegra, Claude, and occasionally Allan would jerk him around, and resentment would kick in without fail. Of course, the irritation towards Marinette certainly wouldn’t last, since she’d simply gotten excited, but it would undoubtedly come. So he waited..
..And waited..
..And nothing came.
Felix looked down at her hand, which was still firmly on his wrist, and frowned. She was dragging him through the crowd, yet he felt.. nothing. It wasn’t necessarily good, but it wasn’t bad either. He was just.. normal.
How odd.
“Which animal should we go to next?” Marinette inquired, eagerly looking around. “I’ve already seen the jellyfish, the octopus, and some of the bigger tanks with the multiple types of fish.. Maybe we can see the big tank again so you can tell the na-”
He didn’t look up at her until her ramble abruptly cut off. She was staring down at his wrist too, her eyes wide with surprise. She must not have thought about what she was doing when she grabbed him.
“O-Oh!” As soon as she registered what she’d done, Marinette ripped her hand away from him. “I-I’m so sorry! I- uhm -I was just so excited, a-and.. I’ll try not to grab you again.”
“No, it’s..” Felix rubbed the part of his wrist that Marinette had grabbed, almost not believing the next words he was about to say. “It’s fine. We should probably be holding onto each other anyway, unless we want to get separated again.”
“Oh..” Marinette said, sounding a bit dazed. “Oh yeah.. Um.. How do you want me to..”
She held her hand out towards him again, and Felix hesitated. If they were to hold onto each other, holding hands would be the obvious option, but that was out of the question on account of the strange feeling that twisted inside him at the thought of doing such a thing. The next option would be holding onto his sleeve, or grabbing his wrist again. Would that be peculiar for her, though? He’s unsure as to why it would be peculiar, but it felt peculiar.
Before he could decide what to do, Marinette tentatively took hold of his bag strap.
“I-Is this okay?” She asked, searching his face for discomfort or disagreement.
Felix blinked. That was actually..
“This is perfect.” He said, grabbing the part of the bag strap that was just above her hand.
A relieved smile passed her lips. “Good. Let’s keep walking then. I wanna learn as many facts as possible before we leave.”
The two set off, weaving around people and going from tank to tank. At each new animal they passed, Marinette would request a series of facts, and Felix would oblige when he could. Then, when he couldn’t recall any facts, they would look up a few for the sake of fun. He had a decent time doing it, as he got to learn some new things about the animals and himself. For example, the electric discharge of an eel can be stronger than five hundred volts, sea turtles apparently think jellyfish are delicious, and when Felix’s hand finally slid onto Marinette’s on the bag strap, he didn’t mind at all. In fact, he didn’t even notice that his hand was on hers until she jumped ahead to look at the shark tank.
“Wow..” Marinette breathed, staring at the enormous whale shark that was gliding through the water in front of them. “Look at how big it is..”
Although slightly distracted by the fact that they’d been touching and he hadn’t noticed, Felix joined her at the tank and watched the shark as well. With its large body and narrow tale, its movements were slow and graceful, and seeing it brought a soothing sense of calm to him.
He glanced down at Marinette, curious how she might react to the gigantic creature.
Despite buzzing about while looking at the other animals, she stood entirely still as she stared upwards through the glass. One of her hands was delicately placed on the tank, and her lips were parted with awe. She appeared to be mesmerized by the sight.
Tumblr media
The mix of water and the lights above brought a bright, blue glow to the room, and it reflected on her perfectly. Accenting her round cheeks and wide eyes, bringing out the deep blue color of her hair that was often hidden.. the illumination made her seem utterly.. ethereal.
Felix sucked in a small breath, shocked by the swirl of warmth and enchantment that swelled within him. Why was he feeling this way? He didn’t recall experiencing it before. Was it something about the aquarium? Or was it something about Marinette? Why would she make such a difference, though?
“I know you enjoy her company.”
His mother’s words hit him like a truck as they resurfaced in his mind. Enjoying her company.. Was that what this was? He didn’t think something like that would be ‘warm’ or ‘enchanting’, but he supposed he’s never fully enjoyed someone’s presence before to know. Claude and the others- even his parents on rare occasions -would annoy or pester or drain his energy. Marinette, somehow, never did that. Maybe it was because she always listened to him, or because she would offer a smile or clothes or croissants- whatever he might need without ever asking for anything in return. She was selfless and didn’t demand his attention like everyone else, and that, Felix realized, made all the difference.
“Know any facts about this one?” Marinette said, shaking him from his thoughts.
“Hm?” Felix dragged his eyes back to the whale shark. “Oh, yes. If I remember correctly, they-”
“There you are!”
Claude’s declaration barely registered in Felix’s mind before he was suddenly tackled by the brunette.
“We’ve been looking for you everywhere!”
Felix scowled as he wrestled Claude off of him. There’s the feeling of revulsion that he remembered so well.
“Oh, and you found Marinette!” Allegra chimed in with a smile.
Marinette pulled a sheepish expression. “Sorry for walking off.. I got distracted.”
Allan waved off the remark as he joined them. “Don’t sweat it. This trip was meant to be fun. As long as you had a good time, everything’s fine.”
Marinette smiled. “Thanks. I had a great time.”
“Aw~.” Claude jokingly sang. “That’s good to hear. What about you, Felix? Did you have a good time?”
Felix rolled his eyes at the babying tone, but a chuckle brought his gaze back to Marinette. She was shaking her head at Claude, her eyes bright with amusement and her smile warm.
“Actually..” He muttered. “I did.”
~~~~~~
The icy cold of the evening brushed over Marinette as she walked outside, but she smiled anyway. The aquarium had been more amazing than she could have ever predicted, which was saying something considering she’d already expected it to be great. She got to see turtles and whale sharks and octopi and all sorts of animals! On top of that, she got to see all of those animals with Felix, who was able to tell her little facts about them! Although some of the facts were hard to swallow.. like, who calls octopus limbs ‘arms’ instead of ‘tentacles’? That’s crazy!
Marinette chuckled at the memory as she nuzzled her nose into her white scarf for warmth. Yes, some of the facts were definitely mind boggling, but there was no doubt that they were the best part of the trip.
Well.. She thought, glancing over her shoulder. Maybe not the best part.
The rest of the group was exiting the aquarium behind her, Felix being amongst them. The best part of the day had honestly been when he said that he had a good time. With all the scowling and his getting lost, she’d been kicking herself about inviting him to the aquarium, especially when she knew that crowds weren’t his forte. But then they went on that impromptu tour together, and his hard expressions softened into small smiles and quiet laughs.
It was the first time she saw him fully relax (in a crowded room, no less!). Just knowing that she’d been a part of that brought her more joy and fulfillment than the whale shark she’d originally wanted to see.
Of course, now that the tour was over and the group was back together, the hard expressions had returned, and he was currently chewing out Claude for trying to hug him “in the name of warmth”. Marinette couldn’t help giggling at the sight, though. Even as Felix was clutching his coat around himself and shivering, he refused to be touched by anyone. She vaguely wondered if he was against the notion for a specific reason or simply had an aversion to touch. He didn’t seem to mind them touching in the aquarium, though, so there had to be a specific reason then, right?
“I don’t know about you guys,” Allegra spoke up, taking Marinette from her thoughts, “but I had a wonderful time today.”
“Are you kidding?” Claude asked, finally stepping away from Felix with a smile. “Today was awesome! And that mermaid show? Incredible.”
“And completely generic.” Felix added with an eye roll. “They didn’t even bother to make it look as though she were breathing underwater.”
“Well, yeah.” Allegra smirked. “They can’t get real mermaids. Those are too hard to catch.”
“That’s because they don’t exist.” Felix stated flatly. “Which is another reason why they shouldn’t hold that show. It will give people the wrong idea.”
“Hey, mermaids could exist!” Claude- because if anyone were to fight for this, it would be him -insisted. “The ocean is huge, and we haven’t seen it all yet. You have no idea whether mermaids actually exist or not.”
Felix scoffed. “Please. A creature with a human half and a fish half that also lived in the ocean would be scientifically impossible. At the very least, the human side would perish from the low temperatures and prolonged exposure to salt water. The only way it might survive is if the creature simply had a humanoid half rather than a human half, and in that case, the creature wouldn’t look anything like the actor they had inside.”
“Who said anything about science?” Claude argued. “What if it’s magic?”
Marinette had been watching the conversation with an amused smile until the topic of magic came up. She knew it wasn’t a direct mention to her alter ego, but it still caused her stiffen. Thankfully, no one noticed, since they were too busy watching Felix raise a brow.
“That’s preposterous.”
“How come?” Claude retorted. “If we can have Ladybug and Chat Noir running around with their magical weapons and abilities, why can’t we have mermaids?”
Marinette faltered in her steps, but quickly regained balance. Now that was a direct mention of her alter ego. Should she try to change the subject? It definitely felt like it was time to change the subject.
“Chat Noir and Ladybug gain their powers from the miraculous specifically.” Felix stated. “What you are suggesting is an entire species that is born and raised with the same ‘power’ that doesn’t come from a miraculous. That’s what I’d call grasping at straws.”
“You guys know the show is supposed to be for kids, right?” Allan asked, gaining a snort from Allegra.
Claude placed his hands on his hips. “Yes, but I still think mermaids can exist somewhere.”
“No, they can’t.” Felix remarked.
“You don’t have any proof of that!”
“Neither do you!”
“Okay!” Allegra interjected, stepping between the two boys with a barely contained snicker. “You two kids need to behave or you’ll both be put in time out.”
Marinette laughed despite herself, even as Felix glared at the blonde.
Allegra ignored the glare, turning back to the group as she asked, “So where do you guys want to eat for supper?”
“We’re eating supper together?” Marinette inquired.
“Only if you want to.” Allegra smiled. “I just figured, since it’s seven o’clock, that our parents have already eaten. So we might as well eat together, right?”
“Yeah!” Claude agreed, the mermaid discussion slipping from his mind before Marinette’s very eyes. “Let’s go to Dairy Queen. I haven’t been there in a while, and an ice cream sounds so good right now.”
“You want to get ice cream?” Felix blanched. “In this weather?”
“Sure.” Claude smiled. “Anytime’s ice cream time for me. Besides, it’s not that cold.”
“Not that cold??” Felix retorted, his eyebrows furrowing in disbelief.
Marinette chuckled, silently agreeing with Felix. Ice cream was nice when you weren’t already covered in goosebumps due to the cold, but right now, she’d much rather a nice, steaming cup of hot chocolate.
A gasp brought her attention to Allegra, who pointed towards the sky with wide eyes.
“Guys, look!” She grinned. “It’s snowing!”
The group followed her gaze to the Eiffel Tower, which stood bright and tall in the blackness of the night.
Sure enough, flakes of freshly fallen snow were passing the lights of the city and fluttering to the ground. It started out small, with a bit of snow here and there, but soon, a whole flurry began, quickly covering the sidewalks and roads.
“Aw, yeah!” Claude cheered, sticking out his tongue to catch some of the snowflakes. “Freshly fallen snow, man!”
Marinette giggled and stuck out her tongue as well, feeling a wave of euphoria as the snowflakes began hitting her tongue, nose, forehead and cheeks. It hasn’t snowed since last month, and she’d missed it dearly.
“C’mon, Fehix!” Allan urged, his words coming out in blabs because of his tongue sticking out. “Catch snowfakes wis us”
“Absolutely not.” Felix sharply declined. “Do you know how many pollutants are in the first wave of snow, especially with all of this wind? Sulfate, Nitrate, Formaldehyde, Mercury- you might as well drink a bucket of chemicals!”
Marinette paused, though she left her tongue sticking out. Were there really that many chemicals in snow? She’d known there were some, of course, but it couldn’t really be that dangerous, could it?
“Wow, Felix.” Allegra said with an amused smile. “I didn’t know snow could be so dangerous. Can you lighten up a little, please?”
Felix tisked. “I’m only stating facts.”
“Right, right.” Allegra replied. “You don’t have to stick out your tongue, but at least spare us on the ‘grim’ details, will you? It kind of dampers the whole ‘first snowfall of the year’ deal.”
Felix rolled his eyes, but didn’t say anything else. Instead, he tilted his head towards the sky and closed his eyes. Marinette imagined he was trying to gather some semblance of calm or composure, if his deep breaths were any indication. What really caught her attention, though, were the snowflakes. Or rather, the way the snowflakes landed on him. They were crisp and frozen, and it created specks of white all across his features as the snow nestled in Felix’s hair and eyelashes. If she had been any less disciplined, she might have been tempted to take a picture of him. (Only to use the snowflake patterns later as a design idea, of course.)
“Alright, let’s head for Dairy Queen!” Claude abruptly declared, breaking the brief silence that had settled amongst them.
Felix’s eyes cracked open, incidentally meeting Marinette’s at the same time. She averted her gaze, a strange sense of deja vu washing over her. Here she was, staring at him again. How many times was she going to feel weird about staring- or being caught staring -until she remembered not to stare? Granted, it shouldn’t feel weird in the first place. Staring was staring, especially when it was a stare between friends. The most he should say about it is, “what are you looking at?”, and that wasn’t a problem. That was a completely logical response, actually. So why did her stupid brain think it was a problem?
“I call dibs on driving Marinette!” Claude added, wrapping his arm around Marinette’s shoulders.
“What!” Allegra nearly yelled from shock. “You can’t call dibs!”
“Okay, then I call turns!” Claude shot back. “You got to drive her on the way here, so I get to drive her on the way to Dairy Queen.”
“Guys, you know she’s a human being, right?” Allan commented.
Marinette laughed. “It’s alright. I’ll go with Claude to Dairy Queen, and Allegra can drive me home.”
“Aw, she gets to drive you home?” Claude whined.
Allegra, however, pulled a triumphant grin. “Ha-ha! I get a good night snack from Mme Sabine!”
“I’m glad you two only value Marinette for her pastries.” Felix remarked.
Marinette snorted, but Allegra and Claude immediately let out an offended gasp.
“How dare you claim such a thing!” Claude said, now wrapping both arms around Marinette’s shoulders. “Marinette is amazing and wonderful, and I would choose her over pastries a thousand times.”
Allegra hugged Marinette as well. “Yeah, we’re not that shallow. Mme Sabine’s cooking is phenomenal, but Marinette is the one we truly love.”
“I hear that.” Allan chuckled.
The beginnings of a blush curled around Marinette’s cheeks, and she hugged Allegra and Allan back. She knew that she was the one they loved, not the pastries, and that’s why she wouldn’t hesitate to give them all the pastries in the world if they asked.
