Comic that got a little out of hand, for a retrospring request abt time travel... King John has his alleged atheism put to the test, meanwhile Burger King AU Richard’s google maps is glitching pretty hard…I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while so nice to have an excuse to do it heh

I had some more Thoughts in mind that I wanted to do but didn’t want to get too carried away as I have other requests and comics to do, but this is always such a fun concept

I'm mostly self-taught with anatomy specifically, I've never taken anatomy/figure-drawing classes but I feel I could benefit from them. It's mostly been practicing for years, training my eye enough to look at my art and see what I need/want to improve, and learning how I like to stylize anatomy. There are so many great anatomy drawing resources out there, doing studies, drawing from life, pulling techniques from artists you like, can all help. Just keep at it!

realism isn't the end goal for everything, draw anatomy how you like, I've seen lots of unique stylizations of bodies (both human and anthro) which I am inspired by, including: drawing hands large and blocky, drawing thighs/legs long and with big feet (often paired with some awesome perspective work which I also need to work on), different ways to stylize inner ears...

also it's very good to keep in mind that anatomy isn't the same across the board, exaggerate proportions for uniqueness and silhouette, make features large/small/crooked (my personal fave with this is noses/snouts), draw tummies differently (fat lays differently even on ppl who are the same weight), stretch and thin areas, long vs. short faces.... I'm definitely still working on pushing the unique features in characters myself

this is all just me drabbling on of course. and thank you for the high praise! I love character designing and I'm glad that what I make can inspire others

Anon asked: have u ever gotten burnout or overwhelmed from your commission work or art in general? ur a big inspiration to me not just bc of ur art but well you are at like, doing commissions and doing so many on time, and on top of that you pump out so many drawings every week…do u ever get tired or anything? what is ur secret i must know

I dunno if I have "a secret", I think I'm just straight up addicted to drawing or something if I'm being honest. I have had periods where I do draw less, for months at a time in fact, but that was due to me feeling extremely depressed and very unlike myself. Drawing for me is a way to cope, to self soothe, distract myself from other things. I pretty much go through most days with a sense of overthinking and anxiety, and drawing allows me to escape that whirlpool and just focus on one thing at a time. So for me, if I haven't drawn for a day, it feels WEIRD and uncomfortable, like I've got some sort of nagging itch. I understand that a lot of people absolutely do not have this relationship with art, sometimes for them it can feel like more trouble than it's worth, or a dissatisfaction with how works turn out vs the amount of effort put in can be crushing. I do feel stuff like that, certainly. Though the feeling is never enough to keep me from at least drawing something once a day because for me, it's what keeps me sane.

 I think I have felt a sense of burnout before with art, and that's when I was in situations when I had to rely so much on art to get me things for my livelihood. I understand that for me, a career in art would probably put too much pressure on me to the point where I would just want to avoid doing it. When you have that pressure, you can't enjoy art for what it is, it has this importance placed so heavily onto it I can't even think about drawing clearly. It's that heavy expectation that kills my drive for me. I don't feel that with commissions, because for as professional as I try to be, it's informal. People understand that I may take my time, have things happen, etc. Cuz when you commission someone they know I'm ultimately just one person doing this on my own. https://retrospring.net/@cbts004/a/111134782956863276)

Anonymous Witness asked: I'm not so sure about the scoring system in the application process. Wouldn't that create a form of bias? What if it affects the mods decision to applicants in future zines. The project DOES sound promising and I genuinely want to apply since im a minor but idk.

Hello! Nearly all zines use a scoring system during the application process to evaluate the technical skill of the creators. These scores will not be saved for use on future projects but will only be used to evaluate applicants for this project. Scores will be redacted from our records upon closing of the project.

The objective of our blind grading is to remove bias surrounding follower counts and social media presence—i.e., more popular creators will not automatically be accepted, but will be evaluated on the same technical skills as creators with fewer followers.

For our project, each mod will score applicants based on the criteria established in our Guidelines: both page and merch artists are scored on anatomy, lighting, composition, color theory, and grasp of personal style; writers are scored on syntax, prose, characterization, and style. Mods may reduce a score should an applicant fail to adhere to the application guidelines.
