For anyone interested in listening, here is my Cognitive Science podcast assignment on the Testing Effect. The author of the article does some detailed research and study into the effectiveness of the Testing Effect and it's benefits to memory retrieval as I discuss some sample exercises that I could introduce into my future classroom.
Here is the reference to the article in my podcast:

Cognitive Theory and Primary Science Teaching
Cognitive science is gaining increasing influence in education and many existing and developing educational approaches are described as ‘inspired by cognitive science’. Many of these approaches have been long practiced or described as effective pedagogy without any reference to cognitive science – for example, quizzing pupils on topics has been common even without this being thought of as a form…

Cognitive Psychology in Daily Life – Fastlane Freedom
Cognitive psychology is a branch of psychology that focuses on the study of mental processes, including how people perceive, think, remember, and solve problems. It explores the cognitive aspects of human behaviour, such as attention, memory, language, perception, decision-making, and problem-solving. The key objective of cognitive psychology is to understand the internal mental processes that…

something, something, very experienced sub!Izzy training up super inexperienced dom!Stede specifically so Stede can give switchy-but-sub-leaning (for Stede) Ed a good time
(.....we are pretending for the purpose of this fic that Izzy actually understands good BDSM etiquette and is not a self-destructive, kinky-but-incredibly-reckless little fucker who would refuse to safeword out of some messed up sense of pride)
(.......or are we. Check the reblog chain for more developed thoughts!)

If youre sad here's some extremely lazy sketches of Golden Retriever Jason giving hugs to his friends :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in order, the pictures are Golden Retriever Jason hugging Black Cat Nico, Golden Retriever Jason hugging Black Labradoodle Percy, Golden Retriever Jason hugging Australian Shepherd Piper, and Golden Retriever Jason hugging Chihuahua Leo.
I would've done one with Reyna too but it's too late at night 😑

just thinking about steddilly using each other's actual names lol. like, maybe billy's mad at steve and...
"fuck you, steven," billy snarls, shoving steve to the side, "you cant tell me what to do!"
"fuck you too!" steve yells at his retreating back. "i care about you, william, jesus christ cant you at least believe that!"
eddie stops billy from leaving the room, filling up the doorway. fuck him for being the tallest. fuck him for having nice shoulders in that goddamn stupid dnd shirt too. "do we really have to go around yelling our whole first names out like this?" he asks mildly, eyebrows raised.
billy and steve might be mad at each other, but they're still on the same wavelength. they dont even blink before they say, "shut up, edward," together like doofuses and then laugh at eddie's immediately grossed out reaction.
even when billy's angry, he can't stay mad for long when these clowns are in the same room. he wishes he hated them more than he does.
he actually kind of likes them a lot.

Theatre-style incense burners my beloved. Easily my favorite kind of artifact. I weep for the fact that the vast majority of the ones found outside Teotihuacan were looted and ended up in the hands of private collectors.

Today I've been told by an old, wise woman (don't ask me why or how. It's a long story) that I might become a Psychopomp when I'll be older, because my soul has a very strong light and it will help many others through the whole trespassing process, only if I want to, of course. I immediately thought about Gwyn (haha). I don't know if it's entirely a good thing, I need to do some research, but thinking about Gwyn helps a little.
Hi anon!
It's actually not that uncommon in certain spiritual animism circles tbh to be a psychopomp. And psychopomps are found in nearly every animist tradition / religion / spirituality all over the world (both as gods, heroes, and also people - especially because some of these traditions deify real people / ancestors). You might want to look into Eurasian shamanism specifically.
Over a decade ago now, I practiced this myself, and a fascination with both living and deified psychopomps (and the overall practice of being a death shepherd) was what led me to write a character like Gwyn ap Nudd in the first place. :D
I definitely recommend doing research into it, since it can be labour-intensive for some, and it's not for everyone. Also it might be worth looking into the Jungian psychological version! Because if you approach the subject laterally, the psychopomp in Jungian thinking is someone (or a being) that mediates between conscious and unconscious thought, and that can be anything from a symbolic animal or figure, to a psychotherapist depending on the techniques!

I’d need so much PPE if I did this but I wonder if I could still break into my childhood home since my parents haven’t done shit with it.*

creature comfort (1/?)
((aka, the fanfic bug bit while i was scrambling for a camp nanowrimo project whoops? there shall be a heavy dose of introspection and the faintest amount of plot))
People like comparing Buck to a dog.
Usually if there’s specifics dropped, it’s a Golden Retriever—floppy haired, with soulful eyes and a big heart. Full of boundless energy, friendly curiosity, and infallible cheer. Depending on who’s doing the comparing and how much teasing is wrapped up in the words, he laughs along or just ignores the dig.
Hen says it fondly when he brings a box of good cookies from a new bakery to work and he can’t stop lighting up with satisfaction each time someone bites into one and groans happily.
Chim says it on a laugh after Buck comes out of the showers shaking his head to try and make his hair dry faster.
Athena says it one evening that Bobby persuades him to come over for dinner and he walks into their house spouting facts about snails. She shakes her head as she says it, but she doesn’t attempt to hide her smile. Bobby agrees, ruffling Buck’s hair just like he is a dog.
Eddie watches him bounding around his backyard with Christopher and Denny one afternoon and says, “You really are just a human Golden Retriever, aren’t you?”
The game takes a pause when Chris can’t stop giggling at that. Buck herds the kids to the porch where a pitcher of juice and Eddie are waiting, and he leans on the railing, grinning up at Eddie. “What—affectionate, loyal, good with people? Yeah, sounds about right.”
“Nah. Big, dumb, and pretty.”
Buck gasps dramatically, locking eyes with Chris. “Eddie,” he says slowly, “did you call me pretty?”
“That’s what you’re taking from that?”

New session of classes (and hopefully I won't forget to write about half of them this time).
Nova was surprisingly excited when we pulled in. Like, almost 'we've arrived at the park' level of excitement. I guess she missed having class during the break between sessions? She had been being happy to arrive at the building, but it wasn't this level of excited and ready to go.
It's a new area to train in and with new dogs so she was more distracted this time than she had been during the last few classes of last session, but still nothing like that first class where she was very confused and concerned about walking in circles and being followed. She was lagging in her heel - which is unusual because she's typically forging ahead. I think she was trying to take in the new sights/sounds/smells and if so that's a huge improvement in her comfort from trying to pull off to a corner to observe from. Some of it might have been a pacing issue, she kept her heel much better when we were going faster.
Since I mentioned Nova has a decent downstay we're up first to practice the supervised separation next week. Eep. So we'll be trying to practice that in more stressful situations beforehand. Nova will not willingly go with a stranger, but I'm hoping a downstay and just incidentally having a stranger holding the leash will be comfortable enough for her.
