murai yakumo: using guilt to grieve
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i find it so interesting how inukai-sensei implied that yakumo treating survivor's guilt like a luxury and using his classic big canvases weren't a proper way in handling the theme of guilt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
because in the later chapters we learn that yakumo himself has survivor's guilt over sanada's death. and while he claims sanada's death was "likely an accident" he probably feels like he had a hand in it since he didn't go shopping with her that night because he was annoyed at how effortlessly good she was at art so he wanted to paint instead. he's had to live with the guilt of surviving as well as the guilt of possibly being able to have prevented her death plus the guilt of resenting her for her artistic talent. that's why he always refers to sanada being "killed" as if he played a role in killing her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but then momo says that sanada wasn't killed. sure, there are multiple "what-ifs" that could be said like "what if that man didn't call out to sanada and shock her into falling in the sea?" or "what if yakumo did go shopping with sanada that night?" or "what if the ledge wasn't so icy and the water so cold?" or "what if sanada wasn't so curious?" - but it's all a guessing game because the reality of it is that in the end, sanada still ended up dead and they all have to live with that. i think momo is reflecting inukai-sensei's previous argument against yakumo that guilt isn't something fortunate. that's why she calls yakumo a "brat" about sanada's death because he's treating it like some luxury of being alive instead of properly coping.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's been three years since sanada's death but yakumo is still in the denial stage of grief. he's been in arguments with hacchan about how he moved on too fast after sanada's death and he hasn't even talked with momo about it at all. he's likely just scared that those feelings of guilt that he had when she died are slowly fading. yakumo knows that he's childish and he has been trying to grow-up and move on, but i like that he also uses his naiveté as a source of inspiration and drive to complete his art of japan piece. through his art, i think he can finally say his goodbye to sanada. and i'm curious if this piece will allow him to let go of notion that survivor's guilt is something luxurious.

thank god for dr. spencer reid
Tumblr media
a/n: this was written with a fem!reader in mind but imagine what you want, reader has a period (same girl) :) spencer us such a cutie in this :)))))))
summary: your shitty family is in town and spencer is away, what will you do?
pairing: spencerreid x reader
warnings: heavy family issues, mentions of stress and sickness, very brief mention of abuse (litch not talked about just referenced dw), kinda cursing (just realised i've never warned this before... opps) and i might've missed some!
Tumblr media
My eyes are glued to the screen with a perpetual frown playing on my lips. It’s hard to try to care about my job when I have this looming feeling of dread hanging over me like a cloud. Spencer has been MIA for days now. He left in a hurry on Monday night for a case. It’s Saturday now and he hasn’t been responding to my calls. On top of that, I have dinner with my mother and father. Both of them make it abundantly clear that they’re disappointed in my career choice, which is ridiculous because I’m a lawyer. Not the right kind of lawyer they constantly say. I’m an environmental lawyer and I make good money. The only way to satiate their insufferable whining is with Spencer. They love him. They probably love him more than me at this point. Alas, I will just have to deal with them alone tonight. And today has already been one hell of a day. First, Morgan called me,asking where Spencer was, telling me that they finished and that they should be home soon. He had not come home yet. Secondly, I feel like shit, an allergic reaction, my period and some random nausea all add up to making me feel itchy, gross, and practically vile all over. Thirdly, a huge pimple has decided to pop up on my face and  just know my mother will comment on it. My mother is one of those women who look effortlessly put-together 24/7. I am not one of those women. She does not like women who don’t look effortlessly put together. Aka, she barely tolerates me.
I sigh and close my laptop screen, unable to reread the same few sentences again and again, hoping that they would get into my brain. I’m defending a client, one of my firm's biggest clients, in court next week. They were accused of illegal dumping (dumping they did not commit) and now they’re being sued for 2 million dollars. I slump out of my desk chair and out of my home office, locking it behind me for the weekend ahead. If I have court next week and Spencer is coming home after a difficult case, then we’ll need a day or rest and relaxation together. That is, if he even bothers to come home. I busy myself with getting ready and try to push those thoughts out of my head.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last hour of my life has been 60 minutes of absolute misery. Why did I ever accept this invite? My mother excuses herself to the bathroom and my father excuses himself for a cigarette, I nod along. Then it hits me… my dad doesn’t smoke anymore. I stare at the door and before I can stop myself my face contorts into a frown once again. Amelia, my sister. The sister that I haven't seen in years. The sister that bullied and abused me throughout our teenage years. Fuck.
“Amelia?” I question, looking at the blonde woman who looks… different. She’s obviously older than I remember, and a bit more… I don’t know how to put it. Her blonde hair surpasses her waist and she seems to be pregnant? Her blue eyes seem dull and lack a certain vividness they used to sparkle with. She’s the typical peaking in high-school mean girl who became a nurse girl. I honestly can’t believe I used to look up to her.
“It’s so good to see you!” She smiles, one of her fake-bitchy smiles and I grimace as she tries to hug me. “I just wanted to know how you’re doing, especially with the baby on the way, I’ll need all the help I can get!”
My heart drops. “Oh!” Is all I can manage. She sits in the seat beside me and I instinctively move further away. Just as I think this stupid dinner can’t get any worse, her pervy fiancé, Johnny, walks in.
“No Spencer?” He smirks. “What? Did you two break up? He was always too vanilla for you, you need a real man-”
“No, sorry. I was just late. I had to come straight from the jet,” Spencer smiles from behind him. My parents' eyes light up, as Amelia and Johnny’s faces fall. I smile appreciatively at him as he hands the flowers he brought over to my parents and sits beside me, a comforting hand on my thigh.
“How’s work, Spencer?” My father asks, his undivided attention on Spencer.
“It’s good, strenuous but good. Our cases recently haven’t been too difficult- though there was one that had a puzzle I thought you might enjoy…”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I walk inside our house behind him, a million thoughts at once flowing through my head. We walk to the kitchen, he sits me down and takes off my shoes for me, a true gentleman.
He presses a kiss to my cheek and smiles. “You look beautiful.”
I just nod back, a small smile on my lips.
“Is everything alright?” He asks, turning to me, his hands resting on my waist.
“Fine,” I tiredly smile. “Just… you know, it’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
“You know, saying that makes me worry more, right?:” He smiles softly, though we both know he’s serious.
“I just… I can’t believe she just showed up, like 7 years  of not seeing her and she just shows up? Like it’s casual? And then asks for our help with her baby? Like she did nothing to me? Like she-” I stop myself, determined not to cry right now.
“Angel, it’s ok, let it out,” he soothes, a hand on my back, rubbing comforting circles.
“I don’t want to cry though, they’re not worth crying over.”
“Then how about we get ready for bed, yeah angel?” He offers, a tired look in his eyes. I nod and press a soft to his perfect lips. He smiles against my mouth, his hands finding the sides of my face. I run a hand through his hair. He pulls away softly, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” I smile. “Thank you for coming, my knight in shining armour.”
“I enjoyed it. Watching your father fail to solve a simple puzzle was amusing.” He smirks, a mischievous glint in his eye as I roll my eyes.
“We’re not all geniuses,” I remind him.
“You are.”
“And how am I a genius?” I chuckle.
“You’re dating me, you clearly have superior taste and intelligence,” he says matter-of-factly. I gigle at his antics and kiss him again. He pulls away and grabs my hand, leading me into our room. We both opt out of brushing our teeth and washing our faces, a makeup wipe sufficing for removing my makeup. He pulls me into bed with him, and finally, after a long week, I finally lie down in bed with him, his arms around me in a bear-hug of sorts. This is heaven. He’s my knight in shining armour. Thank God for Dr. Spencer Reid.

Warning: Psycophatic behavior, Possesive, Not at all Keegan but also Keegan?, Dumb Reader (Your not dumb darling just you are now), Poorly made, Lazy writing. Tell me if I missed some
And I got like an Idea and that is if it's female reader your lines are pink and if it's male your lines are blue. I'mma try it this time tell me if it is a good idea.
Hello my amazing readers I was rereading my old post and I'm seeing it was a while since I wrote about my baby keegan so here is just a short babble nothing big hope you like. And remember like, reblog and write own some of your thought for some love to me thanks 🫶
Tumblr media
It was weird why do people always fall for someone worse then them. Yes I have always fallen for psykos but that was just when I was watching series because come on you can't blame me when Even Peters plays the bad guy. But that was what I tought and it was so wrong.
But now I'm littrally locked up in my own home by the guy I tought was perfect sweet and shy and that he would never even say a word back to me. Don't get me wrong like Keegan is an amazing boyfriend and all but somehow after some guy at my work flirted with my he became protectiv.
And in another level
You want to go out, come on you can't leave him alone you always go out can't you just stay with him tonight and go tomorow.
Want to buy food he's already doing it.
Need to get some pads, Your gonna have period cramps it's fine baby I can't just get it quickly.
And when you set your foot down and said "Your keeping me in the house I'm going out whatever you like it or not" well yea thats how your here. All tied up to this chair in your basement you didn't even know exsisted.
Then the door opens and Keegan comes in with a plate with a silver cover on top of it (I'm sorry I don't know what it is called :./) "Hello darling I have a suprise! Your gonna love it, you know the gy who has been bothering you and trying to get in the way of us well tada!" Keegan says and then takes of the cover and shows you the head of the coworker who has been flirting with me. You scream scared "What the fuck Keegan why did you kill him!"
Keegan sights "Didn't you hear what I said he was trying to ruin us and he was bothering you don't be angry I was doing it for you for us"
"Not be angry you killed someone Keegan, I'm scared of you"
Keegan stays quite then puts the plate down. He goes to you "I'm not gonna hurt you no never, I just want to keep you for myself and for myself only so you have to stay in here until you understand that"
"I love you"
Tumblr media

Do you have any good Codywan fics to recommend? Preferably on AO3, preferably not too spicy, and preferably ones that will leave me happy inside and not drowning in a post-Order 66 pit of despair. If you don’t feel like answering this, that’s fine, I hope you have a good day! :)
First of all, I am so sorry for not replying to this sooner. I didn’t see the notification and also I really wanted to make sure I gave you a good list. I love getting asked this so thank you for giving me an excuse to make another one of these posts. Here is a link to the first one I made.
These are all masterpieces in my mind. I have like twenty bookmarks in total even though I read fics all the time so here are some of my holy grails:
AUs
Oh, the weather outside is frightful by Celaestis (Christmas fluff modern au)
I wish there were more Christmas fics because I just love them and it certainly doesn’t hurt that the writing quality of this one is nothing short of breathtaking. This is ever so slightly spicy but its mostly fluff. Just a line or two of spice and it’s implied too. This writer has a way of describing things that is so intricate and intimate and I am just obsessed with their writing style.
love me long, be my sunlight by ricken (love island au)
I have never been able to sit through an entire episode of Love Island but when I tell you I screamed when I first saw this au. It is the most fun I have had with a fic in so long but it’s also actually incredibly heartwarming too. And what a creative idea as well. This is one of the fics I reread a lot and if you give it a go, you’ll understand why. It’s positively delightful and is such an original concept too.
Probably the spiciest fic on the list but there’s nothing crazy. It’s mostly just dialogue and references (it is a dating show after all) and the spiciest scene is interrupted. I had such a blast with this one and I really wish more fics were like this.
hunger + dreams by catboydogma (hockey/figure skating au)
Tell me why Codywan suit every genre. The very concept of a Codywan figure skating au is enough to make me screech but this one!!! It’s just so cute. Truly the most adorable little getting together fic and it does such a good job characterising everyone too. The interactions Obi Wan has with Anakin and Ahsoka are so much fun and Codywan deserve to be happy above all else and this fic absolutely delivers that. I would read a thousand chapters of this if I could.
Silver Lining by Wixiany (skiing au)
This fic!!!! Oh my god!!!! I have always believed that Codywan have suffered too much in canon that every au they are place in should be a romcom and that is precisely what this fic is. The sweetest little romcom ever. This fic has everything. A ski-slope accident meet cute. A Cody’s scar origin story. An Omega cameo (if you know me, you know that my opinion of any Codywan fic skyrockets if my fave Star Wars girl makes an appearance). Basically no angst!!!! I think this fic cured all of my problems ngl. I cannot recommend it enough. I genuinely just found this like thirty minutes ago and it has instantly become one of my favourite Codywan fics ever.
An Officer and a Gentleman by jimmytiberius  (regency au)
I read this one last year and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. This is a Codywan regency au and regency era literature may be the only thing I love as much as Codywan so naturally the being combined is immaculate. This fic does a fantastic job of capturing the delicate romanticism of the time period and it’s a style that suits Codywan down to the ground. It just makes sense for them. I mean a Sense and Sensibility au??? Are you serious??? What an amazing concept. If you’re familiar with Jane Austen at all, you’ll feel right at home with this fic because it is just so incredibly sweet.
Rhapsody in Blue by KCKenobi (orchestra/mystery au)
Now I know I mentioned it on my last post but I have vowed to always recommend this fic whenever anyone asks. It is truly my favourite fic of all time and I’ve read it multiple times now. How many fanfics can you say have their own soundtrack? I think this is the third time I have recommended this fic in a post but it really is that good. This is a warning for some angst but I would never recommend a fic with an unhappy ending unless specifically asked so you can rest easy knowing that everything resolves well in this story.
What I also adore about this fic is that it does brilliantly what so few others do, which is that it doesn’t ignore its side characters. They are not just props in Obi Wan’s story. Each person, no matter how small their appearance, feels like a real person. They’re so believable and every relationship, platonic, romantic or otherwise, is completely fleshed out.
There's also a very sweet Codywan oneshot here but it is set during the pandemic and is a bit of a heavy read depending on how much that topic affects so be careful.
I would also like to say that, while this author doesn’t generally write Codywan, first of all when she does it is magical. Secondly, she is absolutely fantastic if you like platonic fics. There’s so many to read and every single one I have read so far has been wonderful.
Canonverse fics
Incognizant by marshMeister (5+1 fic)
It wouldn’t be a true list of recommendations if I didn’t mention a fic by one of my favourite humans @legobenkenobi. When I say he is one of my favourite writers ever, I am not just saying it because I talk to him basically everyday. I cannot think of a single other person I would trust more to characterise both Cody and Obi Wan. It’s perfect every single time, whether its just in a post or in a full fanfiction, and this fic is such a good example. It’s that classic 5+1 format but it’s so sweet and so in character.
What’s the one thing that could improve a Codywan fic though? Anakin being completely oblivious and (lovingly) made fun of for it. He has absolutely no clue how Codywan feel about each other even though basically the rest of the galaxy knows so this fic is him figuring that out and it is joy to read (and then reread like six times).
Also if I could make it required by law to read everything Ben has ever written, I would. So definitely check out literally all of his other fics.
if i don’t make it back from where i’ve gone (just know i’ve loved you all along) by thebitterbeast (featuring art from thegreencarousel) (time travel, non linear fic)
This fic does have some angst but rest assured everything works out eventually. It’s such a unique take on the events in canon and I already enjoy a time loop/ time travel fic. But the part I love the most about this fic is that it’s pro-Jedi. Too many Codywan fics find it necessary to disparage or misrepresent the Jedi and their beliefs in order to make the relationship work but Jedi are allowed to love! And this fic is such a beautiful reminder of that. It also captures the gentleness that Cody and Obi Wan have in their relationship with each other in such a lovely way. I fully accept this as the new canon.
Ghosts of the Dead by Just_Here_To_Procrastinate (zombie au)
This is definitely the heaviest fic on the list but trust me. It’s a masterpiece. Also happy ending too, so don’t worry. Just be cautious for mentions of blood and gore if that isn’t your thing. It doesn’t go overboard with it at all but better safe than sorry.
This is a zombie au and I understand that genre isn’t for everyone, but when people say that they’ve read fanfictions that are better than traditionally published novels, this is the kind of this they’re talking about. There’s a section of this fic which is maybe one of the most beautifully written things I’ve ever read. I wish I could give more context but it happens to be at the most pivotal moment of the entire story and I don’t want to spoil anything so you’re going to have to trust me. This fic is insanely good. It’s quite a long one and worth every single second you spend reading it. I love the narrative style and how it fits into the actual plot of TCW too. The characterization is fantastic too.

Hiiiiiii it’s me again to annoy you with another ask! Usually you see Din being the dense one not getting the hint about reader’s feeling for him, how about the other way round, denser than beskar, the reader just doesn’t pick up or getting on ANY of the hints or actions poor Din is doing ( which A Very shy Din think he’s doing a good job showing them about his intention ). Reader is someone just hitching a ride to Tatooine to stay with her Aunty Peli for a while. Thank you! <3
okay I am so sorry this took forever for me to respond to. my adhd brain is messy. I can only hope that my (fluffy) take on your request hits the spot. I think our tin can man definitely has the potential to be awkward and clumsy, and I love the thought of reader being oblivious. so, here it is!
(requests are open! search the tags #prompt requests or #prompts and send me an ask!)
Denser than Beskar - Oneshot
din djarin x gn!reader
summary: Your beskar-clad taxi pilot is an awkward man, and you decide it's due to his limited social interactions. Under the armor, a nervous Din Djarin thinks his flirting and hints are obvious. Will he be able to share his feelings before you're lost to the sands of Tatooine?
words: 2.2k+
warnings: none, but my blog is entirely 18+. no minors.
read on ao3 | fic masterlist
You sat in one of the co-pilot’s chairs in the Razor Crest, reading something on the datapad in your hands. The blue shades of hyperspace cast a rather soothing glow throughout the cabin, the gentle thrum of the engines an accompanist to your periodical yawns. You wiggled the toes of your boots from their perch on the edge of the control panel. A square button blinking red caught your tired eyes and you sighed, resting your cheek in the palm of your hand. It was getting harder and harder for your eyes to stay focused on the glowing white letters, and you found yourself needing to reread sentences and, eventually, entire paragraphs.
A heavy rhythm of clangs on the ladder made you sit up straight and drop your feet to the floor. You’d already been scolded once before for resting your boots on the control panel and didn’t intend on making the same mistake twice. The Mandalorian walked behind you, rummaging around for something, metal clanging around and distracting you even more from your reading. He let out a modulated, frustrated huff that was quickly replaced with a satisfied hum after a few moments. A gloved hand brushed across your shoulder and the back of your neck, sending a shiver up your spine. You kept your eyes trained on your blurry datapad, furrowing your brow.
Your beskar-clad taxi pilot sat in his worn chair in front of and to the left of yours, a grunt making you turn your head. He was bent forward over the control panel, a screwdriver turning in his steady hand.
“What’re you doing?” You inquired, holding your datapad in your lap, cheek still resting in your palm.
He startled and the tool went sideways, a loose screw falling to the ground and rolling towards your feet. You bent over to pick it up, and his fingers brushed over yours.
“Oh, oops!” You laughed nervously, fingers fumbling with the tiny thing. You looked up as you straightened and noticed that he was staring at you—or was he? His eyes could move under the helmet, he didn’t need to move it every which way.
“Sorry,” he mumbled, holding out his right palm. The left clenched the screwdriver in a vise grip that you only noticed because of the creak of his leather glove.
You smiled at him, placing it gingerly in his hand. “Happens all the time. I’m always chasing after random parts for my aunt.”
There was silence as he got back to his task and you to yours.
“Do you—” The Mandalorian cleared his throat, “Do you like working with her?”
You shrugged, eyes barely registering the Aurebesh in front of you. “It’s alright.”
There was a modulated exhale—a chuckle? —and you looked over at him quizzically. “What?”
“I just can’t see someone like you repairing ships and rewiring droids,” he said, another screw loosened and falling into his large hand.
You turned your chair to face him again, back and neck straightened. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
His beskar helmet snapped to look at you, screwdriver frozen. “I didn’t—I meant—”
“Go on,” you urged, interrupting his stutters.
He sighed and dropped his hand to his lap and tilted his head back. Blue streaks melted together on his helmet and armor, capturing your eyes’ interest more in five seconds than your datapad had in what felt like hours.
“I meant to say that you’re too—”
His words were interrupted by a rapid beeping, and he immediately got up, tools still in hand, dashing to the ladder. All you did was watch him with a stern face as he tossed the stools on the seat to his left, then climbed down the ladder to the hull, visor catching your eyes and then dropping to the rungs underneath him. You rolled your eyes and turned off your datapad, deciding to finish it at some point during your visit with your Aunt Peli.
Who did this guy think he was? You shook your head and folded your hands over the dark screen in your lap. You didn’t even acknowledge him when he climbed back into the cabin, opting to keep your eyes trained on the hypnotic blue shades swirling around the ship. The small green baby gurgled as the Mandalorian placed him in the pram nestled behind your chair. How someone so broad, intimidating, and gruff could have a child was beyond your understanding; all you knew was that your aunt loved the tiny creature almost as much as he did. He’d mentioned it in passing, his voice and phrasing awkward. It had struck you as odd that someone so imposing could be so unsure. You hadn’t paid it too much mind, though. You’d brushed off his awkward attempts at conversations and the way he tapped your shoulder to get your attention, chalking it up to his relatively solitary lifestyle. You understood, though, why your aunt liked him—he was capable, no-nonsense, and had an occasionally funny quip. The journey with him hadn’t been uncomfortable despite his social stumbles, and he’d been making sure you were comfortable and taken care of the entire time.
His comment in the cabin was the first one that had made you feel slighted. Although you were grateful he’d waited until now to make a snide remark, you were annoyed that your positive perception of him was marred. Your aunt had complimented him up and down, quelling all your anxieties about him, saying she trusted him with her life. Your bubbly aunt would be disappointed to hear about this, and a part of you debated telling her, especially since he was so awkward and fumbled many of his interactions with you.
The creak of old leather yanked you out of your head—probably for the best, you figured. The Mandalorian took his place in the pilot’s chair, turning to look at you. He seemed to hesitate, helmet quickly tilting down then back up. You caught the way he clenched his fist and heard him clear his throat.
“I’m dropping out of hyperspace. Strap in.”
You raised your eyebrows and did as told. “No ‘please?’” you teased, a little annoyance underneath it.
“I-I’m sorry,” he mumbled. He turned back to the control panel without another word.
When you opened your mouth to apologize for the smart comment, he pushed the blinking button and the ship dropped out of hyperspace with a whoosh, the beige planet of Tatooine in full view against the black backdrop of space. You were pushed forward with the sudden change in momentum, and the Mandalorian turned to look at you after an “oof” escaped your lips. You assumed he was checking on the cooing baby behind you, but when he didn’t change his gaze, you nodded to assert that you were fine. It was only then that he turned back and began the landing protocol.
Your heart buzzed as you descended into your aunt’s hangar, her mop of curly hair moving below and arms guiding the Mandalorian. Upon touchdown, the engines started to grind to a halt, gloved hands pressing a few more buttons and flicking a switch on the control above. Before you could move, the Mandalorian was unbuckling your safety belts, his hands deft but nervous. You looked at his helmet, the visor avoiding your eyes until he was finished.
You rose and stared at him, gripping your datapad in your hands. “I, um, I guess this is it,” you shrugged.
“I suppose it is.”
He gestured to the ladder and let you climb down it first, joining you in the hold a few moments later with the baby in a satchel across his body. You stood by the door, the canvas pack you’d brought with heavy in your hand. The tap of his boots on the metal floor was joined by intermittent babbles and gurgles, and you almost blushed when he stood incredibly close to you, an armored arm brushing yours. He met your inquisitive gaze with his beskar-covered one, making you squirm. He broke it to press a button and lower the ramp, bright light making you wince as your eyes adjusted.
“There they are!” Peli shouted, a smile splitting her face.
You grinned and ran down the ramp into her open arms, holding her in a tight hug. She pulled away and held your arms in her hands, taking you in. A broad shadow shaded your aunt and her gaze shifted up over your head. You turned around and stood at your aunt’s side, gulping at the sight of the Mandalorian, his armor glinting in the blazing suns’ light.
“Thanks for getting my shefele here safe and sound, Mando.”
You stared at the sand under your boots, suddenly embarrassed. Heat rushed to your cheeks at your aunt’s nickname for you—little lamb—and you hoped he didn’t know what it meant. The canvas bag was heavy in your arms and the heat from the twin suns was even more imposing than it was before.
The Mandalorian nodded, and her face lit up when she saw the green baby, reaching out for him. There was a sigh, and then an excited coo from the baby as he placed the cooing child in your aunt’s waiting hands. She cradled him close, then looked up again at the Mandalorian.
“This little guy and I have some catching up to do,” she beamed. She looked at you. “Go on and head upstairs, that bag looks heavy.”
The beskar helmet trained its visor on you. He said your name with an oddly gentle tone, immediately catching your attention. “I can take your bag.”
“It’s okay, I can do it,” you said, stubborn feet already turning to move.
Your aunt groaned and yanked on your arm, her tight grip holding you back. “Mando, are you seriously gonna let my shefele carry their own stuff up to their room? Come on!”
“Auntie, it’s okay, I can do it,” you entreated, embarrassed once again.
“No, no, he could use the exercise,” she joked. “Show him where your room is.”
When you didn’t answer, he held out his hand. “I insist.”
You rolled your eyes. There was never any room to argue with your aunt, and you knew the Mandalorian wouldn’t budge either. You conceded and handed the man your duffel, turning and walking to a door a few meters away. He followed you inside and you silently walked up the narrow stairway. Without a sound, you turned left at the landing and punched in an entry code to open a door and walked into your room, stepping aside so the Mandalorian could set your bag on the floor with a grunt.
“Dank farrik, that thing is heavy. What do you have in there?” he asked with a huff, hands on his hips.
“Stuff,” you said simply.
Yet another tense silence fell over both of you, coating the air with anticipation. You looked at the cement floor and shuffled your feet, throat suddenly dry.
The Mandalorian mumbled your name. “I’m sorry for what I said.”
“It’s okay.”
“It…it isn’t.” He shook his head. “I meant to say that I..I think you’re good-looking. The, uh, words came out wrong.”
You looked up at him, heat rushing to your cheeks and lips parting slightly. You exhaled a shaky chuckle. “Yeah, you definitely messed that up.” You nudged your duffel with a sandy boot. “Was this an excuse to get me alone?”
He shrugged. “Maybe.”
“I just thought you were being polite.”
“I don’t think pretty people should have to carry their incredibly heavy bags,” he asserted.
Your breath hitched when he took a few steps toward you, closing the distance. His chest was only inches away from yours, helmeted gaze never breaking away from your eyes. A shaking hand came to rest on your forearm, sliding down to hold your clammy hand. Thank the Force for the leather glove, you thought as he squeezed your hand in his large one.
“Are you this nice to all the pretty people you meet?”
The beskar helmet shook in denial. “Only the ones I like.”
You smiled and bit your lip, swinging your joined hands. “I never would’ve guessed.”
“Maybe I was a little too subtle.”
You shrugged and beamed at him. “Maybe I’m just dense.”
“That too,” he hummed. You gave him a playful, exaggerated gasp, quickly breaking and grinning when you heard a quiet, modulated chuckle. There was a beat of silence, then he took your other hand in his. “What would Pel—I mean, your aunt say if I came back at the end of your trip here?”
“To do what?” you inquired, raising an eyebrow.
He ran his thumbs across the backs of your hands, shrugging his armored shoulders. “Take you back to Coruscant, or maybe take you somewhere you haven’t been before. If you’d like that,” he quickly added.
“I think that if you let her babysit that little green cutie, she’d be more than okay with it.” His shyness was endearing and making you smile like a little girl with a crush. “I haven’t been to a lot of places, so your options are very open.”
“Good to know, mesh’la.”
The term of endearment was so soft on your ears, entirely unexpected from someone as stoic and intimidating as him. You wanted to know what it meant, but you decided to let it be for now. When he came back in seven days, you’d ask him then. Judging by the way he was caressing your hands and the way his chest was nearly pressed against yours, you had a feeling it wouldn’t be the last time he’d be calling you mesh’la or reverently murmuring your name.

4, 6, 9 and 19- or any combination of those if that's too much!
4. Do you write original stories as well?
2024 is the year of the original novel, baby! I may have done more, like, setting up a website/Substack/Airtable writing tracker/etc than actual writing at the moment, but in my defence I'm still wrapping up my freelancing obligations this month lmao
6. What is a fandom you will never write for?
You know, it's hard to say 'never' because... I never know what's going to grip me. I never would have predicted that I'd write a fic for the TV adaption of The Last of Us, or that I'd walk out of the theatre after going to see a queer Christmas movie and rage-write an alternate ending in three hours.
So I'll take a slightly different approach to this question and instead say a fandom I'll never write for again, and that's HP. I respect the hell out of the authors who have gone full death of the author about it and reclaimed the world they love to make it better, I really fucking do. But I pulled my HP fics down from AO3 when I realised that seeing the author's name on my fandoms list, on my profile, was just... really fucking with my little trans non binary head.
9. What are your favorite fanfics?
This question is cruel. CRUEL. I have never picked a favourite anything in my life. Here's a few things I'm vibing with RIGHT NOW, but the answer may change in a month or a week or an hour lol.
Going Platinum by @cricketnationrise - always, but especially now as cricket works through the sequel. I feel very taken care of by this fic and have reread it a truly embarrassing number of times.
I really hope I can get him alone by @clottedcreamfudge - the Henry POV of Kinda think that I might be his type aka Alex and Bea fake date. I am just. iu4oqhurfriehngfuqernugoenuogre.
In His Wildest Dreams by @myheartalivewrites - I bang on about Oxford Days by this author a lot (and for good reason) but FUCK this one is beautiful. I am forever a sucker for the psychology of kink.
Noble Blood by @orchidscript - currently a WIP, somewhat based on The King's Assassin by Benjamin Wooley which is the book Mary & George is based on. And like... here's the thing. I picked up pretty quickly coming into this fandom that The Thing Orchid Is Known For is researching the absolute living fuck out of her fics, and like... I respect it, but I also didn't really think about it much, because while deep-dive knowledge is fun, as long as something's plausible enough that it doesn't pull me out of the story I'm along for the ride, you know? But this fic. THIS FIC is based in a time period I am very familiar with (my focus was always Tudor England, but you don't study that time period without picking up a lot of knowledge of the decades either side of it) and like... I get it now. Reading a historical fic where you know so much about the time period, and seeing all these tiny little details sprinkled throughout that, like, aren't actually required for the plot but are just weaving the tapestry of the world... fuck me, it's an entire different experience.
Something Borrowed, Something Blue by @anincompletelist - currently a WIP, I believe it's due to be completely posted by the end of January? But y'all it's so fucking engaging and I am loving the journey so much.
When I Met You (I Could Not Speak) by @sparklepocalypse - forever on my fairytale bullshit as y'all know and this one is EXCELLENT.
You love me! You love me? by anarchyat4am - god. GOD. I don't even know what to say about this one other than PLEASE READ IT. Trans Alex and one of my favourite tropes, quietly falling into a relationship.
19. Dead or overused tropes?
I am an extremely firm believer that there is in fact no such thing. People are forever coming up with new twists on tropes, and even fics that play tropes totally straight are infused with the author's voice or experience or whatever. If I didn't want to enjoy the comfort of the familiar, I would probably not be engaging with fic in the first place 🤣

hi! I just finished A Restless Truth and would like to say 10/10, incredible, finished it two days ago and am already considering rereading it. I was wondering, though, if you had any extant/museum examples that you referenced when describing Maud and Violet's dresses? I'm a dress historian and historical costumer and I've been wanting to make myself a 1910s wardrobe- and what better way to do that than recreating a dress from a book i loved!
hello! I have SO much admiration for historical costumers, as someone who was absurdly proud of the few simple cosplay outfits she's made over the years.
the dresses in the book are based on images of dresses from the right time period, but not identical to them. if you're looking for specific examples, here are the two that I gave @ming85 for reference when she was doing the ART promo art. you can see that the blue one is a fairly good basis for the ink-blue gown that violet wears in the book, and that the cream one is the style I was thinking of for the gown maud wears with layers of grey gauze:

valentines game
umich!rutger mcgroarty x f!reader
warnings: kissing, petnames such as: sweets, pretty girl/boy, baby, sweetheart and thats about it
A/N: Hi everyone! Long time no see, right? Anyways, After rereading this multiple times i realised thsi dosent really go with eachother but i have no motivation to make a whole new fic, so you guys will have to live w me writing badly. Also remember this is my 3rd time ever writing a fic, so bear with me! Alright enoigh peptalk, heres the little blurb i wrote at 2am..
Today was valentines day, and the boys at umich had a hockey game today. The valentines game, as they call it.
There was 10 minutes left of the last period and michigan were under by 3-4 against ohio state. The whole team was tired, sweating and taking out the last of their energy.
As they call out that theres 1 minute left of the game they start losing hope. But all of a sudden, Rutger gets a chance at a free net and he SCORES! The game was now tied 4-4. The last period ended and overtime begun. Only 34 seconds into the first OT, ethan edwards scores and michigan wins 5-4OT.
A few hours pass and everyone starts heading home. You finally get to see your boyfriend, rut. He had changed out of his hockey gear and was wearing just some pj pants and a grey tee.
'Rut! You did so good out there!' You say, smiling softly, hugging him and giving him a small peck on the lips.
'Aw thank you baby' Rutger cooes, looking down at you with his ocean blue eyes. 'I got you something' He purrs, revealing the beautiful red roses he got you. 'Happy valentines sweets'
'Rut.. I love them! i have something for you too, but its at home' You say innocently. 'Should we head home pretty boy?'
'Sure, love' He answers, leading you to the car. He opens your door for you before getting into the drivers seat.
The radio turns on, "Head over heels" by tears for fears is playing. 'Your so beautiful, y/n. Im so glad i met you' Rutger says smiling softly, looking into your eyes.
'I love you so much, rut.' I say, feeling like the happiest girl on earth.
As we step out of the car outside the apartment, the wind hits us with a swoosh. It feels chilly against our skin, but enjoyable. We head up to the apartment and ass song and we closed the door behind us i melt into his arms.
Our lips meet in a passionate, but romantic kiss. He places one hand on my waist and one on my neck. It feels like im kissing him for the first time again. Its like our lips were made for eachother. His lips are soft like clouds, and feel like heaven. He pulls away for a second to look at me. He smiles as he looks at me with the most lovable expression on his face.
'Now, what was that suprise of yours?' Rutger cooes. He says, holding his hand on my waist steady.
'I got myself a hockey jersey with your lastname on it, to show everyone im yours' I say sweetly.
'Sweet girl, put that on right now i need to see you in it' He says desperatly.
I go put on the jersey over my tight dress im wearing.
'Sooo, what do you think?' I say, looking at him with innocent eyes.
'I think its beautiful, just like you' He purrs, pulling me in for a loving kiss. He pulls away, and says: 'The goal i scored today, was for you. Only you. Thats why we call it the valentines game, where we score for our loved ones'

JANUARY 2024 WRAP UP
[loved liked ok DNF (reread) bookclub*]
Mammoths at the Gates • An Impossible Imposter • Greywaren • The Hexologists • Mister Impossible • Reclaiming Two Spirits • (Check, Please: #Hockey)* • Thornhedge • Call Down the Hawk • All the Hidden Paths • All the Beauty in the World • (The Raven King) • (A Strange and Stubborn Endurance) • (Blue Lily, Lily Blue) • The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie • The Missing Page • Bird By Bird • Lucky Red • Portrait of a Thief
I suppose I may as well start with the giant pile of Maggie Stiefvater and get that out of the way, lol. According to Goodreads, this was at least my 3rd time through the entire Raven Cycle. Despite that, I had only the vaguest idea of what happened in the last two books, and now having reread them (again), yeah, that tracks! I can hang with book 3 but I have no idea what was really going on in The Raven King, and as a series finale I didn't love it. It felt a lot like the dreamer plotlines drowned out the original Glendower and ley line story that we started with. But, Maggie being Maggie, I love the way she writes so much that I at least still enjoyed the reading experience. And it made an incredibly clear lead-in to the Dreamer Trilogy (which I had not read), it made total sense, I was hopeful! Again, Maggie being Maggie, I had a good time reading them, I liked learning more about the Lynch brothers, I'm always down for some art forgery, but I just didn't really like it and (while I'm glad for Maggie that she was able to write it) I could have lived without it. It completely did not have the vibe or charm of TRC and, criminally, did not include the Gangsey. How!!!!
The Missing Page - liked it! It felt a lot more solid as a mystery than the first book, which I greatly appreciated, though the villagers in the first book were maybe a bit more fun. I'm not feeling particularly inspired to go look up more Cat Sebastian after this, but if she writes another one of these I'd read it.
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie - I've had this one on my mystery tbr for a while, and for some reason I'd thought it was set in a much earlier time period than the 1950's? lol. Our protagonist is the youngest of 3 sisters growing up in genteel poverty with an absent father, and she has the run of the village, the house, and an incredibly well stocked chemistry lab left by an ancestor. She is both incredibly clever and terribly naive, and absolutely terrifying because of it. Flavia is fascinating as a detective, because she's not written as the protagonist of a middle grade mystery novel - she's a child. This was an interesting read, but I'm not sure it's what I'm looking for in a mystery novel and I don't think I'll continue the series.
A Strange and Stubborn Endurance - reread this in advance of the sequel - it was a bit easier to see some flaws this time around, but had a good time! This *was* my first time listening to it on audio though, and I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It had a different person reading for each of the main characters and their voices just didn't pair well for me - not to mention one of them also read Lev AC Rosen's Lavender House and boy does he do some distinctive character voices.
All the Hidden Paths - didn't go quite so well. I think primarily my mental space was not pairing well with the tensions of reading this for the first time, I do think on a reread I might like it better. Somehow the spy/saboteur was my favorite character? He was soo bad at his job, I found it very funny. But overall, I think it was just a little too close to a rehash of the plot from the first book, leaving me to think Meadows might not be the best at writing mysteries. Luckily it does at least score high on my romance scale.
All the Beauty in the World: The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Me - first nonfic of the year! I've been eagerly anticipating my library getting an audio copy ever since I first heard about this last year, it sounded cool, I'm fascinated by art museums and behind-the-scenes! Unfortunately I was not into it, and almost 2 months on I can't remember enough to even try to tell you why. It did pair interestingly with another recent read, The Mixed Up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler, but I'm still learning how far into memoir territory I can go. Someone stop me from trying the other Met nonfic book I found recently lol.
Thornhedge - wonderful! No notes! I love fairy tales and this was a delight to read.
Check, Please! #Hockey - loved getting to revisit this for book club! I've been meaning to for a few years, because y'all. I've read so much fanfic, and I have no idea what is in the comic, what Ngozi posted as extras, and what is fanon. The comic had less than I was expecting! Still fun, my fellow book-clubber liked it, but my real love was the tweets! I'll definitely try to read Vol 2 this year so I can then browse the larger collection of them compiled in the Chirpbook.
Reclaiming Two Spirits: I saw this one on tumblr and fortunately was able to get access to the audiobook! It's a topic I was very interested in learning more about, and I did! But - this is a research project, more than anything, it could be very repetitive (which, fair. colonizers suck), and it felt distanced from its subject. I feel it's a book that definitely has its place, but it's not objectively a 'good read,' and I'd rather have had something from someone who is indigenous and two-spirit themselves.
The Hexologists - it has its quirks, but this was unapologetically a delight to read and I had a fun time! I'm a sucker for a world with a magic vs industrial revolution, not to mention a married pair of established investigators, and I always appreciate an author who's willing to get a bit silly. If there's ever more books I'd love to read them!
An Impossible Imposter - she is what she is, I had a good time! This one felt like it might have taken some inspo from The Moonstone 👀
Mammoths at the Gate - had a good time with this, as I always do with the Singing Hills books. Stories about stories are like catnip, I should reread them all sometime!
Bird by Bird by Ann Lamott (DNF) - I have only the vaguest memories of reading parts of this for a creative writing class in college, and now that I'm getting more into nonfiction thought why not? Unfortunately the audiobook version I got was read by the author, who absolutely does not have an audiobook voice/cadence. I considered trying again with the version read by someone else, but decided I wasn't actually interested enough to continue.
Lucky Red By Claudia Cravens (DNF) - the host of one of the podcasts I listen to was gushing about this one and I was like, sapphic western? Sign me up! I read about 25% of it, and it all seemed fine, it just wasn't feeling particularly interesting to me. Absolutely give it a shot if you'd like!
Portrait of a Thief by Grace D Li (DNF) - I knew going in this had been getting mixed reviews. I really like the idea of it - I enjoy a heist, am always interested in fine arts/art history drama, and vigilante art repatriation hell yeah! But this felt very much like it was trying to emulate a heist *movie*, and it just wasn’t working for me as a book. If this ever gets adapted I’d love to see it.

Hi......If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series/video games)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
whaaa that's such a fun question, thank you so much for asking!!!!!!
hmmm, since I'm a very terrible person with deciding things, would you mind if I give you top 5 mangas and top 5 books?? I feel like focusing on them, it will be easier for me and I'll be able to talk more about them!!
ok so in no particular order, here are my:
top 5 mangas
ikoku nikki, by tomoko yamashita
I think I fell in love with this manga the second I start to read. it's just incredibly well written, with beautiful characters that are well developed and well explored. yamashita is one of my favorite authors of all time, so I could go on and on about how much I love her writing.
it's a beautiful story about personal connections, grief and future!
shimanami tasogare, by yuuki kamatani
this story is a safe space for me. not only because I love the way it's written and the way it's developed, but it was a huge help for me in my process of self discovering and acceptance of my demissexuality. I will forever be grateful for what this story brought me and all the tears I shed reading it
skip to loafer, by misaki tamakatsu
I think it's already obvious that sukirofa would be on the list OIFJASOJF. I just think it's a gorgeous story that focus a lot on self discovery, growing up and platonic love. I absolute love the "I love you as a person" message that it evoques. I wish there was a story like this when I was a teenager...
haikyuu!!, by haruichi furudate
haikyuu have a deep, deep place in my heart and it's a story I will cary with me forever. it's one of the reasons why I came back to the internet to share thoughts and one of the reasons why I made so many beautiful friends, but also it changed me for the better and it was with me on difficult times. everyone should read it, tbh.
blue period, by tsubasa yamaguchi
one of the reasons why blue period is so important to me is because yatora is a character that resonates A LOT with me. reading it for the first time was like being punched on the face multiple times because I saw a lot of me on it and a lot of my struggles and self doubts. yatora will forever be a character that is extremely important to me.
bonus: "I want to be a wall", by honami shirono and "hibari no asa", by tomoko yamashita
top 5 books
the white book, by Han kang
han kang is one of my favorite authors. I absolute love her writing and, as a writer myself, she inspires me a lot. I find this book to be absolute gorgeous. never in my life I read something that talks about grief and loneliness such as this book. gorgeous, from beginning to end.
the bell jar, by sylvia plath
this book was very important for me growing up. I feel that I picked it up at the right moment of my life and it just stayed with me forever. the fig scene is something that I think about constantly and reflect a lot on it. I feel that I should reread it now that I'm way older.
meu desconhecimentos, by eliane brum
i'm so sorry to say, but I don't think this book was ever translated to english...but I would love to talk about it a little. it was first introduced to me by my therapist and it stayed with me since the moment I started reading it. I resonate a lot with eliane's trajectory with writing and she inspire me a lot too.
the unwomanly face of war, by svetlana alexievich
this book is non fictional and it covers the soviet women who fought on WWII. this book impacted me so much that I still remember vividly scenes from it. it's not an easy book to read and it's extremely graphic, but it definitely left a mark on me.
the good son, by you-jeong jeong
I wouldn't say this book is one of my favorites of all time, but I doo catch myself recommending it A LOT, so it would be weird not to include here. it's a great, great narrative with a highly unreliable narrator that manages to convince you from beginning to end. it's not an easy read as well, since it's a very slow one and can be repetitive.
WELL!!! I think that's it?? idk I feel like every time someone asks me about my favorite something my mind goes blank OIFJASIOJF but I hope I was able to answer your question 💛 thank you for asking!!

Can you please make a list of your most favorite novels (and if you want, tell why you like them)?
Anon this is such a difficult question but I think I'm in a better place to answer it this year than last year? There are some old books that I no longer love, and there are some books that I still love and would happily reread again.
I'm linking to posts where I've written about them before, and a couple to my NU reviews. it got so long that everything is under a cut.
On the HE side: 君有疾否 Are You Ill Sir?
破罐子破摔 Nothing To Lose, one of Fei Tian Ye Xiang's earliest works that he considers a part of his "dark history". It's a mess, reads like a fevered dream borne out of playing Dynasty Warriors until you drop, but I think it's the first book where FTYX showed the first sign of his genius -- his ability to write a scene like it's been pulled out of a movie. Also he writes Lu Bu like the biggest HIMBO and what's not to love really. Don't forget to read the extended extra that features an A'dou x Lu Bu x Zhao Yun sandwich. (Bless Feitian for the possibility of such a sentence)
殺破狼 Sha Po Lang - obviously
北城天街 Beicheng Tianjie - Technically gay lit, not danmei, but it reads like a modern fairy tale by the end. /you will cry
偷風不偷月 Steal On Nights Windy and Moonless - physical transmigration is a rarity in any genre, and this one was written so well, especially in its depiction of familial relationships. /tears
薄霧 Mist, this one probably got Wei Feng Ji Xu put on the map, but before this there was Rose Beauty, which I also enjoyed; actually, it's probably because I read Rose Beauty that I put up with so many zombies in this book. Go read Rose Beauty if you want good writing but without the zombies. This has So many. Zombies. Probably the best in genre for time travel, and in a way, 無限流. The plot is tight, the ship is cute, and while at some point in the middle you start to think "does this book need to be this long", by the time it gets to the end, you won't.
藍月光 Blue Moon
迪奥先生
浮光
颱風眼
別來無恙 How Have You Been by Bei Nan. I don't think I cried this much over tragedies. (This is HE)
落池
又一春
完美無缺 - Perfection by Jin Guan Quan. Transmigration from older famous actor into younger unknown singer, and while it doesn't seem so special in concept now, I'd happily read it again.
我等你到風景看透
日落大道
金牌助理
BE side 鷹奴
無根攻略
活受罪+長相守
Things that are so long there's no way I'd read again but were they ever fun while they lasted (leaving me quite sleep deprived)
不要在垃圾桶里捡男朋友
Anything and everything by Erya, of SCI fame. I have read everything even her old things. It took me months. She's written more since then, and she's on the verge of finishing sequels to the millions of words of Bao Qingtian fanfic both period and modern and I'm not sure when I'll find time to read it all.
破雲+吞海
將進酒

Reading update!
So as you'll see below I've read a lot of books since the last time I did one of these. I'm not going to write a little blurb for all of them, only the ones I feel strongly about. But I'm going to start including my ratings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arctic Sun by Annabeth Albert. 4.25/5 stars
Where We Left Off by Roan Parrish. 5/5 stars
Peter Cabot Gets Lost by Cat Sebastian. 5/5 stars
This book was just. So lovely. Short and fast-paced, but I loved Peter and Caleb so much. I love the time period too. I know this is me being toxic and problematic and showing my internalized homophobia or whatever but I actually really like books set in places and time periods where homophobia is a real and present danger. I think it's because I'm totally a Love Conquers All romantic, so the fact that people dgaf and make a go of being together anyway scratches that itch.
Anyway, good book. I picked up the other two in the series but haven't read them yet.
Let's Get Back to the Party by Zak Salih. 4/5 stars
Literature. Good but pretty sad.
No Gods For Drowning by Hailey Piper. 3/5 stars
The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas. DNF
I got 50 pages in before I gave into my hate and DNFed this.
The Lost Future of Pepperharrow by Natasha Pulley. 5/5 stars
I find it genuinely upsetting that Natasha Pulley isn't a household name, because she writes the most beautiful, gutting books that I have maybe ever read. I don't understand how she's able to write what is, on the surface, a completely mundane sentence, and yet there's this roiling sea of heartbreak underneath it.
This is the sequel to The Watchmaker of Filigree Street, easily one of the best books I've ever read, and this one is at least as good.
Natural Enemies by Roan Parrish. 4/5 stars
Us by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. 3.75/5 stars
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh. 5/5 stars
Lovely little novella that read like a fairy tale.
The Prince's Poisoned Vow by Hailey Turner. 4.25/5 stars
At first I despaired of ever learning who all the characters were in this book because the first like, 10 chapters were all from a different POV, but I got a handle on all of them and liked it a lot.
Spectred Isle by KJ Charles. 4.75/5 stars
Un Lun Dun by China Miéville. DNF
This is the book that made me realize I hate whimsical books.
Here the Whole Time by Vitor Martins. 4/5 stars
The Lightning-Struck Heart by TJ Klune. 3/5 stars
I ranted about this one already but Jesus, Klune. This straight up reads like the kind of stuff I wrote when I was like, 14, and I don't mean that as a compliment to my 14 year old self.
Love, Hate & Clickbait by Liz Bowery. 5/5 stars
!!!!! This book was so good!!!! I picked it up way back when it came out but it only surfaced in the TBR pile in March, and it did not let me down. Thom and Clay are SO unlikable, but you start to like them in a way that's practically insidious because you don't see it coming. By the end, I was totally rooting for them and loved them both. And this is a romcom with a truly great villain, too, which definitely isn't standard in romances.
Red Skies Falling by Alex London. 5/5 stars
Second book in a series that revolves around a culture where falconry is hugely important. If you want fantasy that doesn't take place in fantasy England, check this series out. It has an A+ sibling relationship, a lovely romance, and high stakes. But this one was saaaaad ugh so sad.
Less by Andrew Sean Greer. 3.75/5 stars
I hated this book until about 80% through, and then it subverted all my expectations and I ended up liking it okay. I thought it was just about a pathetic middle aged gay white man (I know I know, that's my type, what's the problem?) feeling sorry for himself, but it was deeper than that. And it had a nice ending.
Invitation to the Blues by Roan Parrish. 4/5 stars
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. 5/5 stars (reread)
Bought this edition for the bonus chapter from Henry's POV and for @vkelleyart's end pages. Totally worth it. I love this book just as much as I did the first time.
Threshold by Jordan L Hawk. 4.25/5 stars
So this is a series with like, 11 books? I read the first one and was kind of eh on it. Good enough to buy the second, not enough to buy all 11 or whatever. But the second one was substantially better, so now I've acquired like 5 more of them. I continue to be a sucker for late 19th century/early 20th century settings.
Lavender House by Lev AC Rosen. 4.5/5 stars
Is gay noir a thing? Because that's what I'm calling this book. Gay noir. I loved the main character and I'm really excited this is going to be a series (I've already preordered the second one). The only reason I knocked off half a star is because some of the side characters were irritating. And as a mystery, it wasn't great, so I wouldn't read this one if you're looking for a really good mystery. It's definitely more about the character development and the relationships.
Though possibly one reason I didn't think the mystery was that good is because it got spoiled for me on tumblr by someone who imo had a pretty shallow read on the book. Honestly not sure if they actually read it or they just skimmed it.
Something Wild & Wonderful by Anita Kelly. 5/5 stars
AHHH. THIS BOOK!! This book was so good. So I've been making fun of it for a while because if you look at the cover, it looks like a Stucky AU. And you know what, maybe it was, but at least it didn't read that way, lol. It was really lovely and I'll be using it as a comp for the manuscript I finished last week.
The Bedlam Stacks by Natasha Pulley. 5/5 stars
I don't even have anything else to say except that you need to read Natasha Pulley's books. Please. If you're reading this post, go get her books. Buy them, take them out of the library, whatever. Do it.
Work for It by Talia Hibbert. 4.25/5 stars
A Tree of Bones by Gemma Files. 4.5/5 stars
Any Old Diamonds by KJ Charles. 5/5 stars
Something happened in this book that made me close it and stare into the middle distance, then put it aside until I could process.
Anyway you should definitely read it.
Farview by Kim Fielding. 4/5 stars
Whistling in the Dark by Tamara Allen. 4.25/5 stars
Currently reading The Restless Dark by Erica Waters
Which I'm enjoying more than I thought I would!

So . ... i read the newest chapter of colors and i have a question why didnt Red son or PIF or DBK know about Macaque's death? Did SWK keep his death a secret? Did Wukong actually kill him? If he assumed he left Macaque alive its going to be a somthing situation when the others find out like i imagine someone says "go to hell " and hes probably thinking "been there, done that " or something.
Well the thing is that in 'Interlude', PIF and DBK had indeed asked Macaque where he had been. Because he'd been absent and AWOL for more than a century by that point. Mostly it was because Macaque was dead, yeah, and then the rest of that time period he had sort of just been avoiding everyone. Macaque's excuse to PIF and DBK had simply been "well I did fight Wukong, and I did lose, so then after that I sort of just took myself out of the spotlight." Which is a valid excuse, it's not a good idea to be known for rivalling the great sage, and then being defeated. PIF and DBK never investigated any further than that, and thus this is the extent of what they know regarding Macaque.
In Blue and Violet, Macaque did indeed die. He went to Diyu after Wukong killed him, and LBD revived him a hundred years later with the help of the Chief.
Wukong does not talk about what happened in the fight either. And that's clear when you learn in Interlude that the little monkeys on the mountain had no idea that the fight between Macaque and Wukong even happened.
But does Wukong actually know that he ended up killing Macaque? Because maybe he left the scene thinking Macaque would eventually pick himself up again. Or did Wukong even intend to kill Macaque in the first place? These questions are questions the entire fandom has and in the fanfic I purposefully left it up to the reader's interpretation. Your interpretation. However I suppose you could say that in Interlude, when Macaque and Wukong meet again, you can see the tiniest instances of confusion from Wukong when Macaque brings up the fact that he died.
In conclusion? Literally just reread Interlude. Or just read it if you never even read it in the first place XDDDD. I wrote that fic in the series for a reason. Shadowpuppet content or not, it has so much information regarding establishing stuff for the Blue and Violet story. It is important. That's why I wrote it.
Because no, the Demon Bull Family does not know Macaque died and got revived by LBD. Yes, Wukong kept the fight between him and Macaque a secret because the little monkeys on Flower Fruit Mountain. Did Wukong kill him? Yes. Wukong definitely killed Macaque. Do Macaque and Wukong ever clear up their issues and potentially uncovering a misunderstanding regarding the fight and Macaque's death?
Wait and see.
