in monkey man when dev patel makes the final confrontation he asks "do you know my mother's name? do you know any of their names?" and that's when it hit me...his character has no name and we've gone the entire movie without him ever identifying himself that way. when you give up a part of yourself for a righteous cause, losing his name so he can fully embody hanuman...yeah this movie is so good
#oh yes!#and the fact that he's labeled as 'the kid' - he never got to grow up from that moment#i know people have been criticizing this movie for the 'lack' of resolution for the social commentary it gives#but tbh i enjoyed that it was simply a revenge story... he had a personal goal and he lost himself in it: there was no other ending for him#movies

i think its so funny that alumni from schools like harvard and columbia that were there during the protests in the 60s-80s are expressing support for students currently protesting against the genocide in palestine, and random zionists that were NOT at these protests in the 60s-80s have the never ending audacity to tell these alumni "well thats different, what you protested was good and what they're protesting is bad." as if protesters against the vietnam war and apartheid south africa were not also demonized, arrested, brutalized, and even killed for their activism. history only remembers them fondly after the damage has already been done.

also really frustrating that people are saying these protests are a distraction from what's happening from gaza when literally every student at the encampment was trying their best to bring awareness to the cause. and it's mainly just the zionist mainstream media that is trying to divert these encampments and protests into something they aren't. plus you can care about two things at once and realize all of this is connected. bc why is a public university in minnesota investing in weapons and a foreign ethnostate? why are universities across the u.s. willing to put their students in debt and let cops attack them for protesting just to protect a foreign entity? none of this should be normal and these students are rightfully calling it out.

today i went to the palestine solidarity encampment put up by the kids at my alma mater and there are no words to say except how incredible and inspiring it was. only wishing safety and solidarity with the students and staff across the nation and world who continue to be steadfast in their demand to divest from israeli occupation and to save gaza <3
#i always feel a bit shameful and conflicted that it's always kids who are given the burden of demanding change#i know people say it's bc they have nothing to lose like adults do but that's such a lie#they're putting their bodies and their futures on the line so they and others can live in a better future... it's complete selflessness#and it's crazy how the media is trying to warp this into something violent when it's just a bunch of kids doing teach-ins and marches#it's the universities themselves that bring the violence by allowing these cops on campus to assault and arrest kids

I hate the historical revisionism that "everyone hated Hitler's ethnonationalism" as if Hitler wasn't literally copy/pasting from how the US was treating native people and how Britian operated in India. There were antifascists. They were treated like terrorists just like they are today. Quit acting like antifascism was more popular than a fascist-accepting status quo.
#i do still think anti-fascism is more popular than fascism just bc the masses do tend to be anti-fascist bc majority is oppressed#however it really does bother me how much holocaust revisionism there is and trying to minimize how fascism/nazism rose in europe#the antifascists were literally some of the first people censored or killed#we were taught in school that everybody hated nazis/loved jews when in reality the allies only cared when it spread to its borders#politics
