ok but the funniest part of wob renarlain was that sanderson was like “there are clear hints i’m not trying to pull a fast one” and the entire chat went “oh it’s rlain” and someone told him the chat was guessing it and he was like “oh but it’s mixed in w/ wrong answers so” and they had to tell him no everyone guessed rlain and he was like “oh”

Hi i'm listening to Rhythm of Love by Plain White T's while thinking about Rlain and Renarin and I'm dying

Based on things I saw in the #rowspoilers tag on this website, I really thought that Renarin/Rlain was gna become canon. I literally spent the whole book waiting for that. Now I feel like I was tricked out of something beautiful > :(

uhhh it could've been better. like i do still have hopes about an mlm couple featuring heavily in pt 2 of the series. and i think i appreciated a lot of what sanderson wrote into rlain's pov in row (awareness of the dynamics btwn singers & humans, awareness of microagressions even from friends, all of that was a breath of fresh air).

however, i'm worried about both sanderson falling into questionable tropes and the fandom y'know. being weird about it. like we already have potential problems w/ the way renarin is infantilized and rlain is depicted as "tough", esp when he's indigenous & renarin is autistic, so it could lean into some not great stereotypes about both poc & neurodivergent people.

i also wish sanderson kind of hadn't told us about it? like i'm just :/ whenever authors do kind of sort of out of canon word of mouth confirmation shit. and sanderson's done it a lot (bi adolin, bi shallan, jasnah was like 3 sentences in canon, etc). and i feel like the fandom just sort of gave him credit for writing a bunch of queer characters, when he didn't? i appreciate some of the accidental queer subtext and his support of our interpretations, but like. ... i'm just not ready to give him credit for actual rep until he properly executes it and writes it into canon. but i am keeping my hopes up!
