I have a handful of aus that involve bridge four becoming either briefly or unshakably convinced that kaladin is actually a herald (either one who lost his memory, or secretly, as a test for the lighteyes (they're not doing well)). Actually there's probably at least one guy in canon in WOK who has this as his only half joking pet theory and a couple others who are willing to hear him out for laughs. When the Tower run second ideal happens he's just like I TOLD YOU GUYS I STORMING TOLD YOU.
Anyway Bridge Four Shenanigans such as:
swearing by different heralds names extra loudly to see if kaladin turns around at one
One guy around a corner burning glyph wards dedicated to specific heralds at timed intervals while you watch kaladin carefully to see when he twitches
Saying blatantly wrong things about heraldic legends to see if kaladin will correct you. this one actually works sometimes!!
Eventually teft (assuming its not a time travel scenario where teft is also pretty sure radiants shouldn't just know per-recreance things) or kaladin realizes what's going on and exasperatedly explains his Actual Whole Deal. The guys still keep the bit going, 95% because they've learned it really annoys Kaladin, 5% because he might still be a herald that's testing them only he has a new name (its a very multicultural group of men. What's one more name for Jezrian/Yaezir/Yaysi). And if he is a herald testing them then that's a dick move to pull on your own bridge crew so he deserves to be mocked for it.
Bridge Four being Assholes:
Very satisfying to angrily shout "Kaladin's hands!" to his face when he assigns you night watch for the second week in a row.
Or even just doing a normal herald swear and then immediately following it up with "SORRY CAPTAIN NO OFFENSE." The more panic you fake the better. He sighs so hard, it's great.
a genuinely aggrieved "Kaladin's Tits!" got such hard laughs after Lopen stubbed his toe that Moash almost threw up
but unfortunately. as we all know. if you do something ironically enough times. it eventually becomes an actual habit.
And now some of the other bridgecrews have picked up on it and the Captain might actually send the guys who trained them on a one way trip to the tranquiline halls. Skar tripped in front of Prince Adolin and cursed without thinking about it and now the Brightlord is asking. a LOT of questions. Couple of pissed off ardents might get involved. It's messy.

Last few weeks I've been thinking a lot about bridges in the Stormlight Archives. What they meant, what their role is and I just wanna ramble analyze again so here we go.
Bridges ARE forces of Unity and conduits of Honor. In the series I argue there is no tighter knit group, no greater camaraderie than Bridge 4. And speaking of, my mind is going to start there and with Kaladin in TWOK.
Kaladin, in his first perspective chapter, internally monologues "Honor is Dead". In the part 1 the place Kaladin and the bridgemen before him go to end their lives is called "The Honor Chasm", and when Kaladin goes right after the end of a highstorm, a fall to ones death into a large body of water invokes a lot of jumping off of bridges imagery to me.
The souls of the bridgemen, like Honor, are shattered. But we see Kaladin reforge them anew in the Chasms. It is there that they really begin to feel unity, to have shared purpose and goals. Honor is their shield, literally so with the bridge and their Side Carry. Together the broken men of Bridge 4 return from despair and helplessness to become something greater.
Their bridge, saving their lives, acting as their shield and bond then becomes the lone piece that connects Kaladin and Dalinar. In his visions the almighty tells Dalinar "Act with Honor and Honor will aid you." AND WOW THAT BRIDGE SURE DOES SAVE HIM.
Not to mention the fact that Dalinar is a living bridge between the realms, consistently "bridges the gap" between peoples and cultures in founding the coalition of Kings in Oathbringer. That bridges themselves so easily can be interpreted as THE Journey BETWEEN Destinations. But if you want one piece of lore that I think shows this as well. The shared sure of Bondsmiths and Windrunners is that of "Adhesion". Dubbed Honors truest surge, the one only of him. The surge that CONNECTS TOGETHER.
I swear I am struggling to properly convey how much this makes my brain tingle but so many elements of both how the Honor and Unity are represented in this book have such strong ties to the way bridges and those who tend to them are showcased. Please tell me I am not the only one seeing this or I will go insane. I feel like I need to make a dozen more posts about this for it to stop rotating in my skull

Glys gives Renarin a vision of him falling over in front of a certain handsome Listener. In the hopes of escaping this mortifying fate, he asks the rest of Bridge Four to fly him everywhere for a week. Rlain inversely receives a vision of Renarin falling into his arms and makes as many excuses as possible for Bridge Four to land the Prince onto slippery surfaces. Pattern develops a crush on a suitably complex mathematical equation.

Sigzil with some stormlight
ID: We see Sigzil turned slightly away from the viewer, his eyes looking back over his shoulder. His skin is a dark brown, but it reflects a blueish green light. His forehead is marked with tattoos, and he has a bit of short stubble on his chin. His hair is short in locks, with a few pieces falling over his forehead. Stormlight curls around his shoulder, a few strands passing near his face.

I'm rereading the Stormlight Archive and was reminded of the most intelligent I've ever been. my Diagram day was when I made this.

I haven't updated on my The Way of Kings reread, but when I said slow, I meant it. I read about a chapter or two a day. Currently on chapter seven.
I just finished Bridge Four, and when I say that chapter took me out. It took me out.

I love this detail in Oathbringer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of the bridge four characters' pov has the little image on the left, showing their jacket with the bridge four symbol in it. However, in Moash's pov the drawing shows a jacket without the symbol, because Moash took it of in one of those chapters, also representing that he's no longer a bridge four member. It might be obvious but it took me a few chapters to realize it, and I love it.
