Endlessly weird to me that people blame Pabu, the island and the episode, for somehow ruining the Batch.
I feel a way about this because Pabu is a) introduced to the group by unambiguously dark-skinned human characters and b) a refugee settlement. So to place the blame for the 'softening' or 'loss of coolness' of the show on that is really ugly looking. Like it just fucking is, sorry not sorry.
Acting as if without Pabu, Hunter super totally woulda been all in on rescuing Crosshair, is to pretend like the entire rest of S1 and 2 didn't happen. He was crushed by what he perceived as a complete loss of Crosshair at the end of S1 and has plainly spent a year telling himself to accept it. You can swap out Pabu with any one of a hundred other locations and the result is the same: Hunter isn't convinced Crosshair wants to come back with them, feels just as abandoned as Crosshair does. (Whether or not this is fair for either of them is a wholly different topic.)
None of that is about Pabu. Pabu is simply the place they come across--brought there by a fellow refugee who understands a need for solace and safety, even briefly--which reveals to them, like Safa Toma did for Tech specifically, that their lives CAN be something else. If you don't find that particularly interesting narratively, okay, but to blame Pabu is really a stretch. (Let's not forget, Phee is not about settling on Pabu either. She calls it a 'home away from home' for a reason. So she's not suggesting it as a forever place as it's not even that for her.)
Anyways. Kinda exhausted with this idea that 'Pabu' is somehow at fault for making the Batch not adventurous or heroic, as if any of them would never again leave the planet for a romp. Where does this weird ass idea come from, they have a spaceship! They can leave and come back at will!! Hunter being depressed and in his emotions about Tech being taken as some sort of 'because Pabu is an option' thing is weird to me. He coulda said Kashyyk. He could've said any number of other places. Pabu was just the place they were currently safest on.
Real over fandom not wanting narratives to play out, for characters to change and grow and become. That's how stories work.

hello! i was wondering if you could recommend any videos/articles explaining the history of everything (or at least most) of what’s currently happening (sorry if this didn’t make sense, i wasn’t sure how to word but i hope you understand what i mean! 😭)
hi! please don't apologize!! would love to help. here are some links explaining the history between rma and barcelona:
here is a short video getting to the basics: How The Spanish Civil War Shaped El Clásico: Real Madrid vs Barcelona (Roots of a Rivalry)
another one concerning how rma aligned with franco: Did Franco's Real Madrid Have an Unfair Advantage?
here is an article with more conteporary context to the inaccurate video rma released about barça and the regime that i mentioned in my last post.
this is a great tumblr post which explains this with more nuance and examples from the catalán perspective.

okay i’ve had fucking enough of this so let’s clear something up right now: the fire nation did not colonize the southern water tribe.
here is the literal fucking definition of colonization:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
see the common thread there? settling.
as in, people from the colonizing country have to actually live in, and establish control over the local government and people of the country being colonized.
as established in show canon, the fire nation did not send anyone to live in the southern water tribe. the fire nation did not establish its own form of government in the southern water tribe. the fire nation did not depose the existing leadership of the southern water tribe, set up a puppet ruler, or otherwise exert any form of political, social or religious control over the people of the southern water tribe. what the fire nation did do was commit genocide against the southern waterbenders.
the only country that the fire nation colonized in atla was the earth kingdom, but somehow, i rarely see the colonizer argument applied to jin/zuko, suki/zuko or toph/zuko. sokka/zuko is one of the most popular ships in the fandom despite the fact that…. *checks notes* sokka is also from the southern water tribe, a place zuko supposedly colonized. funny, i don’t see anyone hating on zu/kka for that though.
zuko and katara are not a colonizer/colonized ship in the show, and neither is the dynamic between their countries reminiscent of our reality. zuko and katara are not based on real people, the way j*hn smith and pocahontas were. there is no real history of war or colonialism between the people they were inspired by (the Chinese/Japanese and the Inuit respectively).
what is real is the terrible, horrific history of colonization. what is real was my people having their food stolen by the british & dying in the millions from famine. what is real was my home being conquered by the japanese because england colonized my country, forced it to depend almost entirely on them & then left it to suffer when they lost.
colonization is not a cute little buzzword you get to throw around to disparage any ship you don’t personally like. if you’re uncomfortable with zutara, that’s your prerogative, but for the love of god please open a fucking dictionary before you decide to (inaccurately) compare the brutal, bloody reality of one of the worst aspects of our history to the relationship between two fictional characters.

was Elizabeth Wydeville one of Margaret of Anjou's ladies in waiting?
Hi! No, she wasn't.
"The popular tradition that Elizabeth Woodville herself was one of [Margaret of Anjou's] ladies seems to have been pure invention. As long ago as 1935 Smith observed that the earliest reference to this was made in Thomas More's History of Richard III, and that attempts to identify her with the 'Isabelle Domine Grey' of Margaret's accounts are misguided given that this married lady was among those accompanying Margaret from France and thus could not be the 8-year-old Elizabeth Woodville. Moreover, the Elizabeth Grey 'daily attendant on the queen's person' was recorded in June 1445 as the widow of Sir Ralph Grey, and their son, a minor, was in the king's household." (X)

So are all the Palestinians angry about Joe Biden dismissing the fact that he has an active part in their families’ death “undercover magat”s with “no other valid reason”?
Tumblr media
And of course every single point fails to mention directly the loads of Palestinians criticizing Biden for supporting their genocide and instead wants to say everything in the most dismissive way possible.

March–April 2024. A very strange, frequently tasteless, mostly inexplicable black comedy political satire from the creator of SUCCESSION — though more strongly reminiscent, presumably on purpose, of the 2017 THE DEATH OF STALIN — THE REGIME is a six-part miniseries starring a self-consciously frumpy-looking, outrageously hammy Kate Winslet as Elena Vernham, the egomaniacal authoritarian chancellor of an unnamed Ruritanian state somewhere in Central Europe.
As her hapless husband (Guillaume Gallienne) and self-dealing underlings tiptoe around her growing list of neuroses and increasingly erratic mood swings, a soldier named Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), notorious for his role in a brutal massacre of striking mine workers, is recruited to play a hard-to-define, ever-shifting supporting role in Elena's ongoing psychological breakdown and various political confrontations.
Winslet seems to have been having fun, although she overacts shamelessly, and what accent she thinks she's doing seems to vary from moment to moment; the median could best be described as "Margaret Thatcher, very tipsy, trying to pretend she's not sucking on an Everlasting Gobstopper." Schoenaerts, for reasons that are never clear, plays Zubak like a punch-drunk boxer trying to walk off a life-threatening concussion, leaving his character a perplexing cipher throughout.
Like THE DEATH OF STALIN (which I thought wildly overrated), THE REGIME is more often crass and uncomfortable than actually funny, and its smug misogyny would be offensive if taken seriously (which is admittedly very difficult). Also, given the current state of the UK, watching the largely British cast mock the political instability of a fictitious "Middle European" autocracy causes some seasickness. (Whistling past the graveyard, perhaps, but still.) CONTAINS LESBIANS? No! VERDICT: Much more "funny strange" than "funny ha-ha," and because it's basically a one-note joke, it becomes like one of those terrible SNL skits that just won't end.

Matty Healy really brought out the reality that so many westerners do not get that Asia as a whole and its individual nations has its own identity, and the ever growing popularity of steering away from western superpowers and influence. That Rat’s fans don’t realize the white saviorism and dismissing the inherent differences of western and eastern culture is just gonna further the ever growing isolationist movement.

new possible aspect of extended andor-erso family Dynamics include galen and lyra’s protracted awkward divorce (it starts to happen the moment that jyn is out of the house, either age, like, 6 or 18 you can decide) where galen for whom she’s like he only real human connection to the Outside World is like *this is Fine* *opens vodka bottle* meanwhile lyra keeps talking about living her Best Life. she’s actually finishing her geology master’s degree that got put on pause by galen, galen’s career, and jyn. she’s invested in a bunch of new-age hippy sweaters and scented candles and taken up hot yoga. she’s got the space!joy of sex and assorted manuals on the female orgasm sitting up on the bookshelf with all her baking books. she goes hillwalking for weeks at a time. she keeps bringing her collection of nubile younger lovers ‘round to family events and they are all her age or younger, which is to say, at least eleven years younger than galen
#the whole lyra through andor lens thing kind of struck me and then it got me thinking about all the mess IN the erso family dynamics like#lyra and galen got married at like 21 i think and he is ELEVEN years older than her#like 21 and 32 are just. an insane difference in age in particular ways#and they're just so badly matched politically and interest wise IMHO like. it clearly was a Hot Sex Meeting of the Minds were they were like#you are soooo into science and also sexy!#but like we got a guy who's part of the imperial regime#and a girl who literally puts one of the most radical anti imperial leaders of armed resistance down as the Next of Kin for care of her#child#also jyn has got to be up there with declan lynch for characters that are soooo obviously like. you were an accident#i think jyn is so interesting as someone who is so clearly just kind of fit around the shape of larger adult things#of her parents lives. they might say they do everything For Jyn but like. do they REALLY? galen especially#she's just kind of this presence around their lives and that's sort of what she is in a meta way for the whole story#lyra erso#jyn erso#galen erso#i just believe. divorce. divorce is sooo funny#you know what i said about jyn and cassian's wedding having luthen and saw the Divorced Couple#trying to start another leftist schism?#it's also got galen erso and lyra and lyra's pilates instructor she's having a sexy affair with#canonically too lyra had jyn at 23 which makes her#only 18 years younger than cassian which is an Interesting Dynamic but also means that if she decided to date farther down the line... even#more awkward. for everyone involved.#wait i think you've got some funky new stuff in here too with the fact that lyra is only 23 years older than jyn#whereas although irl fiona shaw isn't that much older than diego i get the vibe from the show#that maarva is supposed to be like#forty five fifty years older. assuming he's 26 acc'd canon when she dies and she's like late 70's to 80's when she dies#idk. there's also this potential for a massive age difference there in terms of i do not think lyra and maarva really get along
