I know for a goddamn fact, that if Yuuji were to discover Selena Quintanilla, his crush on Jennifer Lawrence would be nothing but a spec of dust in the wind.

Yuuji would absolutely be Selena's number one fan. Sure, the boy doesn't know a goddamn thing in Spanish, but play a song Selena, and he would sing his heart out with years of experience.

Those iconic trumpets and flutes play, and the next thing you hear is, "Yo tenía una esperanza. En el fondo de mi alma. Que un día te quedaras tú conmigo, Y aún guardaba una ilusión. Que alimentaba el corazón. Mi corazón que hoy tiene que verte como solo amigo." With a small, "Preach Selena."

Hell, the boy even has her performances at the Astrodome memorized. Watching her with awe and sparkles in his eyes as she dances without a care, showing off her amazing curves. Yuuji's favorite thing to say to his older brother in passing is, "And she's natural baby."

Dressed up as Selena for Halloween... for three years... in a row. Hell, four years in a row if you count him stayin' home and watching her movie.

Cries his little heart out every time he hears 'Dreaming of you,' late at night when his playlist is on shuffle. Especially when he's watching the Selena movie for the millionth time and he has to experience her death again.

"Dude?.... Are you cryin' again?"

"Dude, she killed Selena... she killed Selena." Before dry heaving into his arms. Mumbling, "She was an angel..."

Sorry for the random head cannon, but I love this boy so much.

The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

I grew up listening to Jeff Wayne's musical version of the War of the Worlds, which I recommend btw. So I was well aware of the story. Even though I've never seen a film. But this is how I think War of the World should be enjoyed. I know Wells wrote the short story in 1987 but to me, it is Orson Welles' 1938 production is what made it infamous. This particular version is War of the Wards as read by the cast of Star Trek. It was performed and recorded for Halloween by the L.A. Theatre Works in 2009. how I wish I'd been there when they recorded it.

Some random comments and a couple of quotes.

Gates McFadden is fantastic as the reporter Carla Phillips she has the voice for it. Her tone is perfection.

Leonard Nimoy is the astronomer Professor Pierson. His initial sense of scepticism comes through brilliantly, it must for a pure scientist. The transition he goes through is so effective as times get dark, as the new reality sets in.

Armin Shimerman as an announcer is a joy, his voice is iconic. But he will always Quark to me.

Brent Spiner does crazy well as the Stranger.

While I point out these specific actors, they are great and well suited to their roles. Everyone presents the right amount of urgency or sadness or near desperation.

Later when their bodies were examined in the laboratories, it was found that they were killed by the putrefactive and disease bacteria against which their systems were unprepared. . . slain, after all man’s defenses had failed, by the humblest thing that God in His wisdom put upon this earth. — Professor Pierson

Dim and wonderful is the vision I have conjured up in my mind of life spreading slowly from this little seed bed of the solar system throughout the inanimate vastness of sidereal space. But that is a remote dream. — Professor Pierson

It was all John de Lancie's idea. Because of course, it was.

The interview afterwards is well worth listening to. The one I heard came with Gates McFadden whom I didn't know prefers to stage act rather than film act. It's that feedback the interplay between performer and audience. There is a discussion of how she about changing how role from the male original to the female.

On the LATW listing for the title there is an interview with Leonard Nimoy. Here you can also get the audiobook for free on Spotify.

Wellesnet has a copy of the original 1938 script. Because it's essentially what they are recording rather than H.G. Wells original work. Freedom Forum has a version of the orginal 1988 broadcast on their YouTube channel.

Favorite thing about them:

His kindness that literally robs off on others. His sweetness is just so infectious and no one can avoid it, not even Ambar hehehe. Plus he’s always trying to help others and is very empathetic. He literally wrote the most beautiful song off the show, Eres and Valiente. Those words are like no others. Truly a heart of gold.

Least Favorite thing about them:

How he immediately believed and trusted in Daniella instead of listening to his childhood friend Luna. He quickly thought whatever Luna was saying was a lie and believed more a person he barely knows instead of his forever childhood friend. I understand he was going through a rough patch with her but it still didn’t feel right. I was upset at him when I saw that but the good thing is he learned from his mistake and didn’t do it again, which is the important thing 😌

Favorite line:

“Todo lo que quieras lo podras alcanzar.”

brOTP:

Luna/Simon/Nina. Love this iconic group. I explained it more in my last character ask about Luna but I just love how close they all are with each other and how Simon and Nina immediately hit it off and get along really well because of how much they care about Luna.

OTP:

Simbar of course. I love their development and how Simon was able to soften her heart more and be there for her when no one was.

nOTP:

Simon and Daniela. That was a no for me since day one. She was evil, manipulative and so annoying that even Ambar was annoyed of her. Plus she was an extreme liar all because she was jealous of Luna, which was uncalled for. Btw if you pair up their names together it’s Simonella which sounds a lot like salmonella and that’s exactly how this ship is, icky. 😆

Random headcanon:

For fun growing up, him and Luna would play games relating to Harry Potter. He would always laugh when she would wear the robe because she owned one that was three times her size since it was gifted to her mom and originally belonged to one of her mom’s friend’s daughters. They would pair up every Halloween and choose costumes of the same theme. He once dressed up as Superman while she dressed up as Wonder Woman.

Unpopular opinion:

Okay so personally I feel like Simon had all the right to get angry and say all the things he said to Ambar in S2. Like yes I do feel bad that she had to head the words “your incapable of love” but think about it, you try being in his position. He thought she truly changed to be a better person and then discovers on his own that she was the one who started the fire in the rink and framed Luna for it. He couldn’t believe that out of all the people it was her, the girl he was falling for. It was almost earth shattering. He told her these words from how hurt and betrayed he was. This is reasonable. She did something wrong and because this is a Disney show, she didn’t go to jail but what she committed would most likely end her up in jail. It was a lot for him in such a short period of time, a lot to take in. He thought she stopped hurting others and discovered that it was a lie, it was all fake (we as the audience know that towards the end she did change but he doesn’t know this).
