Homecoming Queen: A School Spirits Story.
Wally Clark x Reader
Part 2
A/N:I just finished season one of school spirits and I had this idea I kind of ran with. This is a single part story but I left it open for more parts and i could definitely be persuaded to make more parts.
Tumblr media
Split River High Homecoming week 2013
Homecoming had once again rolled around at Split River High and the festivities had just begun. I was sitting in my first period class patiently waiting for the morning announcements. They were supposed to be announcing the homecoming court during announcements this morning. This is supposed to be my year. I had been voted onto the court each year by my classmates but this year was finally the year I could be in the running to be named Homecoming Queen.
“Good morning Bandits!” Assistant Principal Hartman’s voice echoed over the intercom. “Today kickstarts homecoming week and I know we are all looking forward to our court announcement but there are a few things we must announce before then.”
I zoned out while he rambled off the announcements that came prior to the homecoming court announcement. I was lost in thought wondering if they would change things up this year for the 30th anniversary memorial of Wally Clark, our fallen football star who tragically died during this game back in 1983.
The memorial had been the same since I started attending the football games, since 2007, my brother Lincoln’s freshman season the memorial has always been a moment of silence at half time followed by a speech from his parents. It’s sad really reliving the worst moment of your life year after year, replaying that horrible moment every time you step foot in the stadium named after your son. That must be why his dad stopped coming back in 2008.
“Earth to Y/N!” My best friend Bailey snapped her fingers in my ear breaking my train of thought. “You spaced out, he’s announcing homecoming court now!”
“What grade are we on?” I asked my interest suddenly brought back to the announcements
“Sophomores about to be Juniors.”
I listened intently as each Junior Maid was announced patiently waiting for Senior Maids.
“Now for your Senior Maids,” Mr. Hartman said enthusiastically over the intercom. “Haley Johnson, Bailey Lewis, and Y/N YL/N. Let’s give a round of applause for your 2013 homecoming court!”
“We’re both on homecoming court!” I squealed at my best friend and teammate!
“Maybe a basketball girl will finally win Queen!” Bailey smiled back at me.
“Alright girls settle down.” Mr. Anderson called out, “congratulations but we have a lesson to get through.”
We ended our conversation and Mr. Anderson proceeded with his lesson. The rest of the day passed by rather quickly and before I knew it, it was lunch time. Bailey and I were sitting at our normal table with the rest of the team.
“So Y/N do you have a dress picked out for homecoming?” Sarah asked.
“I sure do,” I said showing her my phone with the picture of my dress on it.
“Oh my god you are going to look amazing!” She squealed.
“Thank you, Bailey’s dress is even prettier than mine.” I redirected the conversation.
While the rest of the team chit chatted about homecoming and their plans for the game and dance I was lost in thought about who I would have escort me during presentation at the game Friday night. My dad and mom separated 4 years ago and he moved off to Florida and has since remarried. I could try to have him come in to escort me along with mom but he would likely have an excuse as to why he couldn’t make it. Maybe Lincoln would escort me along with mom. I spent the rest of lunch lost in thought.
The rest of the week went by fairly quickly. It was a blur of dress up days to show our school spirit. Tuesday was decade day, I sported my best 80s get up. Wednesday was twin day, Bailey and I were twins in our basketball jerseys. Thursday was country vs country club and I dressed like a proper country girl. Lastly Friday was spirit day, I went all out to show my school spirit!
———————————————————————
Homecoming game 2013
I stood with my mom and Lincoln on the track as we watched the final seconds of the the second quarter tick by. We were currently winning the game by two touchdowns. At halftime we were lined up waiting to be presented, the presentation was to take place after the memorial. This year Mrs. Clark gave her speech first. The speech however was followed with a slideshow this year, pictures of Wally flashed on the screen below the scoreboard I had never seen pictures of him before, he was a rather attractive young man. The video ended with the stadium name flashing.
“We all knew his story,” Lincoln said to me as we waited for my name to be called. “He was the football teams idol.”
“He was your idol,” I sighed, “but I can’t help but feel sad for him, he had a young life that was cut short by the sport he loved.”
“He was the best player to grace this field Y:N.”
“Yes he was but could you imagine having the future he could have had only to have your life ended by the sport you loved?” I could feel the tears pricking at the corner of my eyes. “Then every year your family has to relive that awful moment over and over?”
Our conversation was cut short by the announcer calling out my name.
“Y/N is escorted tonight by her mother Amber YL/N and her brother former state champion quarterback Lincoln YL/N.” the announcer spoke into the microphone. The crowd erupted into a roar of cheers although I’m not sure if they were for me or for the returning Split River royalty I was related to.
“Give it up one more time for your 2013 Split River Homecoming Court.” The announcer spoke as we all left the field in the choreographed manner we had practiced all week.
We made our way back to the stage set up for the court and we all took our seats.
“Did you hear the way the crowd cheered for you?” Bailey asked, “I’d say based on that you are definitely our Homecoming Queen.”
“You know they weren’t cheering for me,” I sighed. “They were cheering for Lincoln, a part of Split River royalty.”
“You don’t know that!” She scolded
“I do Bailey, he’s a state champion, I’m just his little sister.”
“You are so much more than that.” She said she popped me in the back of the head. “You are literally one of the most popular girls here, you’re friends with everyone and have always gone out of your way to do for anyone who needed a helping hand.”
“You and I both know that that doesn’t hold a candle to being a state champion around here.”
She rolled her eyes at me but let it go. Thankfully the remainder of the game passed faster than expected and I was able to escape the stadium in no time.
———————————————————————
Homecoming Dance 2013
I walked into the gym with my chiffon train flowing behind me. I felt like a million bucks, this was my last homecoming dance and I was determined to have a good time no matter the outcome of the vote. I quickly found Bailey and the rest of our teammates and we proceeded to head to the camera line where we could take one final team homecoming picture together.
Once we finished with the pictures we made our way out on to the dance floor. The DJ had just started playing ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ by One Direction, we all sang in unison at the top of our lungs “baby you light up my world like no body else,” as we danced and jumped around. The song was fading out and the tune to a slow song was fading in when I felt a light tap on my shoulder. Turning around I was face to face with Jax Dawson, our quarterback.
“Can I have this dance?” He asked smiling sweetly and sticking his hand out to me.
“Of course,” I said taking his out stretched hand. He put my arms around his neck and placed his hands on my waste very lightly. We swayed in sync to the music and lyrics of ‘I’ll Be’ by Edwin McCain.
“You look gorgeous tonight Y/N.” He whispered in my ear.
“Thank you Jax.” I could feel my cheeks flush. “You look handsome.”
“Handsome enough I could snag a second dance later in the night?” He flirted
“We might can arrange that.” I laughed.
We danced with each other until the song faded out and a shrill screech of the microphone broke us apart.
“Can we please have our Seniors on homecoming court report to the stage?” The Principal Mrs. Sheridan called out.
I made my way to the stage my heart was beating out of my chest I was so nervous. I could literally hear my heart beating each step I took that got me closer to the stage.
Once everyone was situated on stage Mrs. Sheridan only added to everyone’s anxiety by dragging out the crowning. She started by crowning the Homecoming King, who was none other than Jax.
“No time for your 2013 Homecoming Queen,” she called into the microphone. “Drumroll please, this years Homecoming Queen is, Y/N YL/N!”
The crowd erupted in applause and I stepped to Mrs. Sheridan for her to crown me. Once the crown was secured to my head I turned back to find my best friend Bailey, “You did it,” she smiled, “I knew you had this.”
“Thanks B,” I said hugging her, “finally one of the basketball girls won.” We both laughed.
“Please give it up one more time for your king and queen.” Mrs. Sheridan called out followed by applause.
I had to stay on stage with the court and take pictures for a few minutes after the presentation. Once the pictures were done I headed to the steps of the stage so that I could get back to the dance floor. As soon as I stepped off the first step I felt my dress tug on something causing me to miss the second step and fall down the steps hitting the back of my head on the steps as I fell down them. I could faintly hear people calling my name and I could tell my hair was wet with something, I stuck my hand to the back of my head and brought it to my eyes to see my fingers covered in blood before everything went black.
I’m not sure how long I was out for but when I finally came to I had a major headache and was still on the gym floor. My vision was still slightly blurred but I could make out a male figure standing in front of me.
“What happened?” I asked groggily.
“You fell down the steps of the stage.” A sweet unfamiliar voice responded, “you hit your head on the way down.”
“How long was I out for?”
“Well about that.” The voice responded, I could listen to this boy talk all day,
“What is that supposed to mean?” I asked as my vision finally began to refocus. I was face to face with a face I had only ever seen once before, on the screen at last nights game. “Yo- you’re wa- wa.”
“Wally Clark,” he finished my sentence for me “Homecoming King of ‘83”
“That’s impossible,” I panicked. “I must be dreaming or in a comma because you’ve been dead for 30 years!”
“It’s not impossible cherry pop.” A girl with dark curly hair stated plainly.
“The only way it’s not impossible is if I’m.” I choked on the last word of my sentence.
“Dead.” Wally stated softly grabbing my hand.
“No I can’t be dead!” I whaled, “I’ve got a concussion or something.”
“Im afraid not,” a shorter boy with glasses said pointing off in the distance to a crowd of people around someone.
I pulled myself together enough to get up off the floor and see what was going on. I could see Bailey, Sarah and Jax clearly in the distance. I made my way to each of them touching their shoulders and telling them I was ok but neither of them even noticed I was there.
“They can’t see or hear you,” the shorter boy said.
“This can’t be real.” I real I sobbed, as I pushed my way through the crowd to see what the commotion was I saw my lifeless body laid out on the gym floor as one of the teachers attempted CPR.
“She’s not breathing.” The teacher shouted, “I’m going to continue with chest compressions until the EMTs get here!”
“Dispatch says they’re two minutes out,” another teacher called.
My friends were all a wreck, the sound of their sobs and cries tore through my heart like a bullet from a gun.
“She can’t be gone!” Bailey cried out. Sarah could barely speak she was crying so hard. Jax had his head in his hands and I could hear soft sobs escaping his lips. My friends were hurting and there was nothing I could do.
Within minutes the EMTs burst through the gym doors with a gurney. They rushed to the group of people surrounding my lifeless body.
“How long have you been doing compressions,” one of them asked the teacher who had been working to keep my heart beating.
“Ten minutes,” he responded.
“She doesn’t have a pulse,” the other EMT called out. “Let’s try to shock her.” They pulled out their defibrillator and proceeded to put the paddles to my chest. Shockwaves ripples through my body and I didn’t even move. They tried a second and third time with not a single movement. I was gone and I wasn’t coming back.
“Let’s call it,” one of the EMTs said. “Time of death?”
“Ten o’clock,” the other responded.
They began getting a body bag ready and I felt a hand lightly touch my shoulder. “You don’t need to see this,” the sweet voice from earlier said. I turned around and instinctively buried my head in the chest of the tall brunette football player. He wrapped his arms tightly around me as I sobbed into his chest.
“Let’s get you out of here while this is cleaned up.” He said as he ran his hand through my hair.
“Where could we even go where I won’t see them drag my body out of the school?” I sobbed
“Let’s go to the auditorium,” he started walking while he still held me into his side. “You won’t be able to see anything in there.
I didn’t say a word I simply let him lead me to the auditorium. I wasn’t ready to die. I still had so much life to live. I was supposed to go to college and play college ball. Meet a wonderful man and get married and have kids and grow old with the love of my life, I wasn’t supposed to die at my senior homecoming dance!
By the time we had made it to the auditorium my sadness had turned to rage. I was enraged by what had been taken from me. Once the auditorium doors shut I let out a blood curdling scream from the rage that was coursing through me.
“Hey, hey, hey, it’s ok,” tried to south me. “I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way after reality finally set in. Mad at the world for what has been taken from you.”
“I’m pissed,” I cried. “ I had so much to look forward to a now it’s gone. No college ball, no love, no wedding, no kids, no growing old with the love of my life.”
“I get it,” he said putting his arm around me and pulling me to him. “I watched all of those same dreams I had die when I died on that damn football field 30 years ago.”
“How do you live with it?” I asked leaning into his embrace. I felt like I was safe sitting here with him as if not matter what he would protect me from whatever harm could come to me now.
“It gets easier,” he smiled, “eventuality the sting isn’t as painful as it used to be, that and with Mr. Martin’s help.
“Who is Mr. Martin?”
“He leads the afterlife support group we are all apart of.”
“Oh,” was all I could manage “what’s it like being a ghost?”
“It’s nothing like the movies make you think.” He giggled, “we can’t walk through walls, touch people, talk to them, or possess them.”
“So we’re really lame immortals basically?”
“Basically,” he sighed, “we still have the same needs and wants as we did when we were alive though.”
“So what we can get sick or something?”
“We’ll charley is allergic to nuts, even in death if he eats them he swells.”
“So can we still fall in love or have sex?”
“Yes and yes,” he laughed, “I just said we still have needs and wants like we did when we were alive.
God that laugh, something about his laugh was contagious. Hearing him laugh just put a smile on my pained face and I couldn’t fight back.
“I know the night didn’t go how you planned,” he said scratching his neck “but you are still homecoming Queen,” he said pulling out my crown, “and the homecoming Queen does get a dance with the homecoming king.”
“The homecoming king is still alive,” I said quizzically.
“This years king is yes but how about a king from 30 years ago?” He asked as he placed my crown back on my head.
“It would be my honor,” I smiled as I stuck my hand out to him.
“You know I never even made it to accept my crown,” he said as he took my hand in is. “I died the night before they crowned me so I never even got my dance.”
“Until now that is.” I smiled up at the handsome jock who had his arms tightly wrapped around my waist. “We don’t have any music.” I said I we swayed together in silence.
Wally began to hum the tune to ‘Iris’ by the Goo Goo Dolls then began to sing the opening lyrics. “And I’d give up forever touch you, cause I know that you feel me somehow, you’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be and I don’t wanna go home right now.”
I was mesmerized by how good of a singer he was and before I knew it I was lost in the song. My arms around his neck and my head lay perfectly on his chest, this moment eased the pain I felt moments before for just long enough for me to enjoy the dance.
The song had been over for a while but Wally and I still stood in the middle of the auditorium my arms around his neck and his around my waist neither of us wanting to break the comfortable space we were in.
“Wally?” I asked softly “how did you know that song, it came out years after you died?”
“I’ve been to so many of these dances over the years you can’t help but learn the songs.”
“I see well,” I sighed.
“Well what?” He asked concerned.
“You sang my favorite song very well.” I smiled.
“I’m glad I could do your favorite song justice.” He said as he let one arm fall from my waist and moved it to cup my cheek. “Do you feel better?”
“I do thank you,” I smiled as I leaned my cheek into his touch. Being in this moment felt right I didn’t pull my check away from his touch and he didn’t pull his hand away from me either we are just standing there looking into each others eyes. The next thing I know both of us are leaning into each other, within seconds his lips are pressed to mine in softest and sweetest kiss I have ever felt. His lips are soft and they feel like they were meant for mine. Moments later we break the kiss both of us breathless.
“I will never forget this night Y/N,” he smiled as he ran his thumb across my cheek bone.
“Neither will I,” I say as I reach one of my hands up to grasp the hand he has placed on my cheek.

Mind telling us how the dynamics of duos within teen Sector V are? Like 1/2, 3/4, 2/5, 1/3, 2/4 and so on lol. Just to get to know them and how they are as teens a bit better!
AHHHH SO!!!
There's a lot to say here, so I'll start with Nigel and go on until everything is explained?? Before reading, I don't want hate or anything plz, this is what works for this AU but I pretty much can ship anyone with anyone!
Let's go!
#1/#2
Nigel and Hoagie like to work in tandem on new 2x4 tech for teen operatives to use. Hoagie has the ideas, Nigel refines them (and avoids Hoagie from making them too dangerous or unstable) and they build them together. Nigel hasn't always been one for manual work but lately he found out it helps him not to think too much. And Hoagie's more than happy to help "Big Boss" relax!
---
#1/#3
Kuki is Nigel's personal ray of sunshine (that's also why the whole school calls her that). She helps him to cheer up and see life in a different way, a more colorful and positive one. They don't even have to talk, Nigel just needs to sit next to her and plop his head on her shoulder and she knows it's time to work her magic on him! Also she somehow convinced him to have her test her "make up skills" on him. Don't ask why, that's how they roll. AND! Kuki's been in charge of taking care of Nigel's rainbow monkey plush since he left for GKND.
---
#1/#4
Because of something that happen to Wally years before (which, don't ask, none of them want to talk about it), these two are now really close. Especially Wally found a good friend he can talk to when life gets too hard on him, he knows Nigel will be more than happy to listen to him go off without judging or forcing a solution on him. Basically Nigel KNOWS the root of all of Wally's problems and understands his feelings. They don't like to show how close they are around, but if they find each other alone, it's feeling time.
Tumblr media
---
#1/#5
They know EVERYTHING about EVERYONE around the school, no one is safe, not even professors or the principal himself. They could crush everyone in one move... but choose not too because were would the fun be? Sill best friends, if you didn't know their history you could easily mistake them for a couple. Well, they are in fact planning their wedding, been doing that for 2 years now, but it always gets delayed because one of them changes his mind about a minor detail. Do they even argue? Are they actually together?? What is going on??? Only they know.
Tumblr media
---
#2/#3
Just a quick note: Numbuh 6 is still there and they still keep an eye on him, but he's been moved to another sector when they all turned 13. Because of his love for anime and manga, Hoagie is actually learning Japanese with her, because he thinks it would be cool to be able to watch anime without subtitles or worse, the... dub... EWW! Also they like to watch stuff together that Wally refuses to because it has romance in it, like Toradora! or even Sword Art Online.
---
#2/#4
Best friends forever. Kinda gay, but not all the way? Like IRL JD and Turk basically. They're so into anime and manga and videogames, they're NERDS but Wally usually hides it around people, Hoagie can't be bothered and you can spot him reading some manga no one even knew existed. They have a lot of inside jokes not even the others understand, especially the "chicken" one they've been keep going since they were 7. Also, they're meme masters.
---
#2/#5
How the heck are they even dating? Like, he's an OTAKU and she's the QUEEN of the school??? But it works apparently, and everyone is jealous and MAD at Hoagie because really, he's one of the LAMEST LOSERS in the school, just... how... WHY?? No one knows. But them. He makes her laugh and she keeps him with his feet on the ground. Been going for *looks at smudged note on the hand* 7 YEARS????
Tumblr media
---
#3/#4
A ray of sunshine and the prince of darkness. Happiness and rage, rainbow and clouds, colorful and black. They seem like opposite worlds colliding, but the whole school knows they're dating now. Took a bit of time tbh, it has its ups and downs, but they look happy together, so, what else could they want? 2 years down, their whole life to go.
Tumblr media
---
#3/#5
They have the love for make-up and fashion in common. Kuki likes to test her make-up skills on Abby, who's more than willing to let her go for it because she's actually good! They like to hang out at the mall, sometimes they drag Nigel with them for reasons (the boy needs some good clothes).
---
#4/#5
If Nigel's the one Wally can go to without expecting judging or answers, Abby's the one who can give Wally a solution for a problem he has. She loves the boy, wants all the best for him, it's just that sometimes... he's... really something to work with. Actually turns out these two are the best ones to put on a mission together. They know how to work things out.
---
Sorry I have no energy to do all the drawings for all dynamics, so I did the ones that inspired me the most.
Hope you liked it!

Remember that Highschool Bully AU I was talking about? Well here’s what i wanna do:
Scraping the idea of Julie running a hate blog online, changing it! She’s head cheerleader lol! She pretends to be nice to the teachers and such, but to the other *students shes vile!! Shes like two different people depending on if a teacher is present.
Frank is also a suck up to the teachers. He’s the best student in every class, top in grades and everything!! >:D! He’s the president of the photography club, which gives him an excuse to carry a camera everywhere. He uses it to snap embarrassing photos of people and get them into the newspaper, speaking of!
Eddie runs the newspaper club! He also pretends to be a sweetheart the teachers, but also posts the embarrassing photos of people in the paper and rumors n such >:3c he and Frank work together to make ppls life miserable, couple goals
Sally is the president of the Drama club! She’s incredibly authoritative and has an absolute power trip every day in the club. If she doesnt like you, you’re not getting a good role. If you have a good role, cherish it! The second you say something against Sally or any of her friends, shes recasting you. She regularly gives people embarrassing and unnecessary roles just to humiliate them. Like a tree or… grass lmao
Howdy is the mythic bitch here, the scariest guy >:D he’s the tallest strongest guy yknow, a jock! Star player! Bc yknow.. 8 feet tall and 4 arms. Bc hes so big and scary n such he regularly steals from ppl and they cant really do anything about it. He jsut picks people up and throws them, grabs backpacks and kicks people out of them, throws ppl in trash cans and locks them in like everything. Hes mean as fuck.
Barnaby is also on the.. sports team.. but hes not as good as Howdy. Hes a jokester but his jokes are always at the expense of others and normally goes too far. He doenst shake ppl up as much as Howdy does, but he watches and laughs, and Frank records sometimes
Remember when I said I scrapped Julies hate blog? I actually gave it to Poppy! She’s too shy to be mean in real life, and instead hides behind a screen. Her blog is called “Ann Onumouys” (pronounced anonymous lol). Pretty much everyone knows its her, but the teachers turn a blind eye… >.>
Now.. Wally. Wally is pretty much the same lil guy :3 he still hangs out with them all, and theyre all genuinely friends! Hes like their little nice mascot! He doesnt understand that they bully ppl- hes also the reason they dont get in trouble.
Home is the principal and also Wallys guardian! Home is fully aware that Wallys friends bully others, but he will not expel or suspend or anything, bc his friends keep him calm and happy. So he just.. turns a blind eye so that they continue to make Wally happy.
I think thats all I got! I might draw this after work :3

I can't do this anymore I have to get this out now
Welcome Home but if they were students in like middle school, human or puppet idk
long post warning
Poppy Partridge
she's the class monitor alongside Howdy and a very good one because she cares so much. Almost too much
more stressed about collecting the homework and class fees than the teachers
takes lab rules verrrrry seriously but you could not pay her to even stand next to a bunsen burner
favourite subject is Physics, oddly enough. Knowing how all these unpredictable accidents can be put into numbers gives her some kind of peace.
If something isn't explicitly stated in the instructions she'll wonder if she's missing something in between the lines
she gets made fun of for her troubles :(
Sally Starlet
Keeps getting into the principal's office
Has skipped school so many times and her grades are barely passing
If she's called up and doesn't know the answer she will make one
Is actually the president of a couple clubs and very enthusiastic during cocurricular activities, also a competent leader
Volunteers for so many activities and events. Not for credit, for fun
Rules announced at school talks because of her: No feather duster lightsaber battles, no standing on tables and starting impromptu sing-alongs, no 'grand car tire roly poly racing' down the halls, no broom twirling, no white balloons, etc.
identifies as Poppy's weekly heart attack
Eddie Dear
Exchange student! The mystery is from where. Most people think he's avoiding the answer
Isn't a leader in anything but has gained a reputation for being such a reliable stand-up guy whose flaws are more forgivable
He's a prefect who gets called out of class more than anyone to help with something
He's always so happy to help but then he gets even more late or tired, and his grades are falling behind
If you asked him to share his lunch money he'd gladly do it. with hesitance.
needs better boundaries
Julie Joyful
School's beloved. The kind of student who gets immediate applause when they perform or receive an award during an assembly
Started her own gardening club, grades are in the top few, an optimism that's as baffling as it is infectious
Sneaks gum and random toys into class, somehow manages to style her uniform in a unique way every other week
"psst can I copy your homework? I'll do your nails"
Can make any old cleaning task fun
Best and favourite subject is physical education, which includes games, gym, health, etc. Basically hands-on learning because she gets bored sitting still too long
Has a competitive side that gets wild if left unchecked
Frank Frankly
Number one in grades, always was, always will be
He's organizational, not lawful. Doesn't mind climbing over a fence or two in the name of education
His desk is almost unreal to look at it's so clean. Thinks of ways to solve a task so efficiently you'd think he's aiming to be class monitor (he is)
Though he intimidates people they often ask for study tips. His handwriting is an actual font and his diagrams look printed
Favourite subject is Biology but you wouldn't know because he excels at all of them
Also a prefect. He met Eddie during the orientation
During free time if he's not studying or doing homework exercises, he's sketching or letting Eddie and Julie gather at his table to chat
*raises hand* "uUhm teacher you forgot to assign homewo-"
Barnaby B. Beagle
If Julie gets candy into class he's somehow having whole dinners at the back. There's a rumour his bag can carry a microwave
He makes jokes during class, he balances stationary on his nose, he calls the teachers dude, his uniform is messy, but he's so chill and sweet that he's comfortable to be around real quick
Never pays attention during class. If he's not sleeping he's poking holes in his eraser with a pencil or something
yet he keeps getting decent grades. Teachers do NOT like him but popular among students
Best subject is English, but not everyone appreciates his poetry and essays unfortunately
Wally Darling
There's being well-liked and then there's 'most crushes accumulated school-wide'. It's no wonder because of how nice and helpful he is
Often told he has so much potential and that he's a model student. Basically teacher's pet
He's apparently known as so kind and sweet and gentle and perfect and cute but his friends know he's just a silly sleepy guy
You either love him or hate him, no in between
Best subject is art, his paintings are often posted around the school and he's done a few wall projects
Focuses verrry well in class! Appears so anyways. Head's always in the clouds, such a daydreamer
Also, certain unexplainables noticed about him. Brings one shiny apple every day but doesn't eat it. Leaves school, yes, but how does he get home? He's always the first one in class too, before Poppy. Somehow has all the latest gossip, but he'd never spill a friend's secret :)
Howdy Pillar
Class monitor, next to Poppy. He's just a handy dude
Helps out in the school cooperative selling items, most responsible out of everyone because he can keep a level head for tasks
Doesn't stand out much, originally just wanted to get through the semesters and get the business experience but soon became a social butterfly
Jarringly cheerful under all the work he takes upon himself. His organizational skills rival Frank's. No one knows how he does it
If someone can't afford to pay for something he helps them out in a way that doesn't technically break any rules
Is also the reason their class alone is cleaner than anyone else's. Poppy is the reason no one's dead

Since we are FINALLY getting a new Green Arrow comic next week, I wanted to talk about my favorite GA story in a very long time: “Earn It Back” by Dave Wielgosz and Mike Norton, which was part of last year’s DC’s Saved By the Belle Reve anthology. I picked up this comic because the solicit mentioned Super Sons and Gotham Academy stories, but the solicit, cover, and variant cover gave zero indication that there would be any GA content at all, let alone maybe the best Ollie + baby Roy story...ever??? (Side note: this is why I am Comics Georg. If you read EVERYTHING, you will eventually find treasure.)
The story takes place “years ago,” when Roy is in 8th grade. (For non-Americans, that means 13 or 14, depending on when exactly in the year it is. Roy’s birthday is in November so he’s probably 14 here.)
It starts with Ollie being called in to Roy’s school to speak to the vice principal, and oh man, Ollie is a disaster here:
Tumblr media
There is so much to love already:
1. Mike Norton’s art! I always enjoy his work so much. Take it as given that for every page I am loving the art, so I won’t keep saying it. (Also this is a tiny detail but colorist Steve Wands picked just the perfect shade of green for Ollie’s shirt.)
2. “He’s not an idiot.” Already Ollie is in a defensive panic and absolutely flailing. It’s worth noting that Ollie has always and will always be someone who says the very first thought that comes to mind, and this is before he lost all his money and grew a social conscience so he is using thoughtless, offense language. But also, as will be made explicit by the end of the story, Ollie is not someone who did well academically. When Ollie uses the word “idiot,” he means himself. Roy himself once said Ollie is both proud and ashamed that Roy is so much like him and the fact that Roy phrased it that way makes my heart hurt, but it’s probably more accurate to say: Ollie recognizes that Roy is very like him and it worries him because he is intimately familiar with his own faults.
3. This story sits pretty completely within pre-Flashpoint continuity and characterization - it doesn’t match Roy’s New 52 or Rebirth backstories at all. And as a pre-Flashpoint fan, I do love that. But one thing that emerges from the mess of contradictory versions of Roy’s backstory in the New 52 is that it’s really easy to headcanon that version of him - eternally bored in school, miles ahead of the class and unable to sit still, eventually seeking solace in acting out and substance abuse - as neurodivergent, potentially ADHD. And this story also hints at those tendencies, which there is zero indication of in pre-Flashpoint. I just think it does a great job gracefully combining multiple characterizations of Roy so that no one’s is “wrong.”
Tumblr media
Ollie: “Hey Barry. you’re a fucking nerd, right?” Barry: “...Yes. 😔”
ANYWAY LOOK HOW MUCH OLLIE LOVES ROY!!! HE THINKS ROY IS AMAZING!!
Tumblr media
My single solitary issue with this story is that it posits that Bruce is someone it would be logical to turn to for parenting advice, but I guess this early on, before Dick started butting heads with him - let alone before Jason showed up - both Bruce and Ollie could be dumb enough to think he was.
I will never get over how cute Roy’s little face is when he’s talking about shooting Wally. I kiss him! I pinch his cheeks!
Weeks go by. Roy’s grades improve, but he’s miserable:
Tumblr media
Truly Mike Norton is just drawing my headcanons at this point. Yes, that is what Ollie’s house looks like. Yes, that is how he dresses. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Look how mad the Titans are! Look at Garth stomping off! This is so cute, I’m dying.
Tumblr media
Again, BRUCE IS NOT A MODEL PARENT. He’s so condescending here, too. AT LEAST OLLIE'S KIDS ALL MAKE IT OUT OF ADOLESCENCE ALIVE, BRUCE.
(The Dinah cameo is interesting, since she and Ollie don’t interact. It makes this story tricky to place in any prior continuity, since pre-Crisis she didn’t join the League until after Ollie had already grown his beard. I guess this could be the post-Crisis continuity established by JLA: Year One, because Ollie is clean-shaven in that book, which has the pleasing implication that she is a veteran founding member here and Bruce and Ollie are rookies.)
Anyway, it’s the VP calling to let Ollie know that Roy has been cutting school:
Tumblr media
BABY IS ANGRY. Baby also has impeccable aim (of course), because oh man, telling Ollie he’s a tyrant and a fake and flaky is one THOUSAND percent hitting him where it hurts. “You gave up on me” oh BOY the abandonment issues started early.
Other things I love: how incredibly daddish Ollie sounds in the “Keep going, Roy” line. Also, “Being his friend didn’t work.” DAVE WIELGOSZ IS ALSO JUST WRITING MY HEADCANONS!!! I have said for literally decades at this point that Ollie’s early parenting style was permissive to a fault because Roy is his buddy! His pal! His little fella!
Tumblr media
Like I said at the beginning, Ollie’s panicked “He’s not an idiot!” was not about Roy, it was about Ollie. He doesn’t want to see Roy make the same mistakes he did. (He should probably have told Roy about contraceptives then, but...) (Actually he did tell Roy not to get Donna pregnant in Teen Titans: Year One, but probably he should have been clearer about the means.)
Panel three makes me want to sob. THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MU-HU-HUCH. (Ollie and Roy, I mean. Not Ollie and Vice Principal Parks.)
P.S. The posters on Roy’s wall! What a nerd!
Tumblr media
😭😭😭
This is such a complicated little emotional beat and I love it. Roy has been so angry at Ollie but his immediate uncomfortable forgiveness and the way Ollie recognizes it for what it is is so good. (Also of course Robert went along with it, Robert Queen was trash.)
Tumblr media
THEY LOVE EACH OTHER! OLLIE THINKS ROY IS THE GREATEST PERSON ALIVE! ROY SHOWS HIS FORGIVENESS BY ROASTING HIS OLD MAN!
Tumblr media
(We don’t need to discuss the part where I’m pretty sure Roy never finished high school. It’s a happy ending for now, okay?)
Anyway, I love this story very very much and just wanted to gush about it. if the new GA book is anywhere close to this high quality, I will be very happy indeed.

Dead Like Me.
Hi, I've recently binged School Spirits and I really like Wally Clark. There is a criminal lack of fics written for him, so I decided to write one of my own. This includes an OC of my own creation named Sabrina. I hope you all like it!
*Just a note, this takes place a couple years before Maddie's situation happens.*
Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Chapter 1
Triggers: implications of SA, language, violence
I was walking out to the parking lot after cheer practice when someone grabbed my arm. I’d stayed after practice ended to work through some routines with Coach Armstrong for longer than I thought because it was dark out now. So I cried out when the person pulled me under the bleachers.
“Chill, Sab, it’s me!” Zach Hines said, making me relax when I saw it was only him. “Hey, why are you still here?”
“I stayed after with Armstrong to work on some routines for this season,” I explained, watching him move closer to me in the cramped space. “Hey, whoa, what’s up? Personal space is important, my dude.”
“I love how you challenge me,” he grinned, continuing to come to me until my back hit the bleachers. “You look so good in these shorts, I love watching you cheer while you wear them.”
“Dude, Chloe’s my friend,” I said, trying to push him back from me. “You remember Chloe, right? Your girlfriend? About 5’9 with red hair?”
“I don’t want to talk about her right now. I want to talk about you going to Homecoming with me,” he said, ignoring what I said completely.
He put his hand on my hip and trapped me where I was. “Uh, Zach, I think I should leave. Chloe’s my friend.”
He only hummed, pressing his body to mine and kissing my neck. I kept trying to get him off me, but he was so much bigger and stronger than me. He was the fullback for the football team. His hands were all over me and my heart was racing, fight or flight kicking in. I couldn’t run away from him, so I had to fight.
“Zach, stop!” I cried, hitting his chest.
“You want this, every girl wants this,” he argued, banging my body back against the wood until I stopped moving.
“I don’t!” I cried, my adrenaline keeping the pain from sinking into me as my spine repeatedly slammed against the wood behind me. “Zach! Stop it! You’re hurting me!”
“Shut up,” he hissed, continuing to push me until my head hit the wood so sharply everything went black.
~
There was a surprising lack of pain in my body when I woke up. The sun was shining bright and there were a ton of strangers gathered around me.
“What happened?” I asked, but none of the people replied to me or even acknowledged that I’d spoken. “Hello? Can you guys hear me? What happened?”
I pushed up into a sitting position and then stood, but they didn’t move out of the way. It was like I slipped through their bodies. When I turned around to look at them, I screamed when I saw my lifeless body laying where I’d just been.
“Hey, it’s okay,” someone said calmly behind me, making me turn quickly to find a guy wearing glasses and a denim jacket. “Hi, I’m Charley.”
“What the fuck is happening?” I cried. “Why can you see me but they can’t?”
“Let’s go inside, it’s not very fun to be out here with all this,” Charley said, gesturing toward the school.
“Why would I go somewhere with you?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest defensively. "I don't know who you are."
“Because I’m dead like you,” he replied, making me look at him incredulously. “You’re dead, you died under the bleachers and those EMTs announced it.”
“I’m dead?” I asked in a hoarse whisper, kneeling down by my lifeless body. “Holy shit, I’m dead.”
I felt Charley kneel beside me and place a hand on my shoulder. “I’m sorry, this is the worst way to find out you died on campus. It’s, like, the absolute worst thing to find out when you wake up.”
“Sabrina Wellington, age 17,” one of the EMTs said, making me look over at him even though I knew he couldn’t see me now. “Principal’s on her way, the football field’s blocked off from students. We should get her out of here before they realize what’s going on.”
A lot happened at once after that. My body was placed in a bodybag, the EMT frowning as she zipped it up. A surge of panic rushed through my body, but Charley stopped me when I tried to follow them.
“Once you get to the end of the school boundaries, you get yanked back to where you died. That means you’d regenerate under here again and it hurts,” he said, sounding sad. “I’m sorry, you’re stuck here with us.”
“Us?” I asked distractedly, watching the EMTs carry my body away and load it in the back of an ambulance without the lights on when it drove away.
“There’s a group of us who died here. We meet up in the gym everyday to talk,” he explained, gesturing to the building with his shoulder. “Do you want to come with me?”
Before I could say anything, I saw Trish and Ellery standing at the edge of the football field. “Can I find you later? I need to go talk to my friends.”
“They’re not going to be able to see you!” Charley shouted after me as I jogged over to them, but I just waved him off. “Okay, see you later!”
I hurried over to my friends and heard them talking. “I can’t believe she’s dead! She was at practice last night, barking orders like always.”
“Hey!” I cried, but they didn’t acknowledge me.
“It’s like she didn’t know Alison was fighting to take over as captain,” Trisha stated with a giggle. “I guess the fight’s over now.”
“Ladies! Get to class,” Mr. Hill shouted, making us jump. “Don’t forget there’s also a grief counselor here for you if you need it.”
The two of them left me standing there in shock. I’d cheered with them since I was six years old. We’d been inseparable since then… but I think they hated me. What the hell? I walked slowly inside the building, feeling my eyes burn with tears
I didn’t realize until I pushed open the double doors of the gym that I was going where Charley suggested earlier. There was a gym class happening, but I walked through it easily to join the group of people sitting in a  circle.
“Is this dead kid AA?” I asked, standing behind an empty chair.
A girl with dark, curly hair snorted at that and rolled her eyes. “Wow, never heard that one before!”
“Welcome, I’m Mr. Martin,” the man in a sweater vest said, standing up and gesturing to an empty seat. “Please, have a seat and join us.”
I nodded and moved around to sit in one of the folding chairs between a guy in a letterman jacket and the girl with dark hair. She was sucking on a lollipop and looked bored out of her mind.
“Right, let’s go around and introduce ourselves to our newest member,” Mr. Martin said, sitting back in his seat.
“Hi, we met this morning,” Charley said, waving at me with a friendly smile. “I’m Charley.”
The girl with the lollipop said, “Rhonda.”
“Sabrina,” I said, bringing my legs up onto the chair with me and wrapping my arms around them.
“I’m Wally,” the guy in the letterman said, making me realize he looked really familiar. Like he read my mind, he said, “The one that the football field’s named after.”
There was a picture of him hanging in the hallway outside the locker rooms. The thought of the locker rooms made me flinch because I’d seen Zach standing by the doors last night. The feeling of his hands forcing me backward and the roughness of the wood digging into the bare skin of my shoulders.
“Sabrina? Are you okay?” Wally asked, drawing me out of the memory. “You disappeared for a few minutes.”
“Sorry,” I said, sounding a million miles away.
“You get better at handling the memories,” Charley said gently, making me look over at him.
I couldn’t imagine he was right, but I nodded my head anyway. The rest of the group was talking about something, but my focus wasn’t here. I was thinking about Zach trying to force himself on me and hurting me. He’d slammed my head against the bleachers so hard that it killed me.
Then there was the way my friends talked about me this morning. My dead body was found underneath the bleachers where a guy I considered my friend killed me. A guy that I trusted tried to force himself on me then killed me.
My chest drew tight and I knew I was going to have a panic attack. I was up and out of the gym, running until I was in the girls’ bathroom. I gripped the sides of the sink in my hands and looked in the mirror.
I was wearing a silver moon necklace around my neck, there was a tube of abandoned cherry lip gloss in the floor, a couple bobby pins on the little shelf below the mirrors, and an empty soap dispenser on the wall. I could hear water dripping from the sink, the sound of water rushing through pipes in the walls, the sound of someone walking out in the hallway, and the distant squeak of gym shoes.
My breath was back to normal, making me look at my reflection again. The girl in the reflection looked like me when I was alive, but I knew I wasn’t anymore. My eyes were glassy with tears and I wasn’t wearing makeup, so my freckles stood out against my pale cheeks. I busied myself with putting my hair back up to still my shaking hands.
When I walked back out of the bathroom, Wally was waiting for me. He was sitting across from the door with his arms resting on his raised knees.
“Hi,” he greeted, keeping the space between us. “You ran off and I wanted to make sure you were okay. I don’t want to crowd you or freak you out, but this is a lot to do on your own.”
“You mean finding out that a person you trusted tried to assault you then hit your head against the bleachers so hard it killed you and then finding out the girls you’ve known since you were six actually hate you is hard to do alone?” I asked, going over to sit beside him. “You just want to be my friend because I’m a cheerleader… was a cheerleader.”
“I’ve seen you cheer before, you’re good,” he admitted, cheeks flushing a little when I looked at him. “Not in a creepy way, in a ‘I watch the football games’ kind of way.”
A small smile found my face as I leaned my head against the wall behind us. “Thanks, I absolutely fucking hated it.”
“No way! I hated football!” he cried, making me look at him with my brows raised. “It was fun when I started, but my mom had insane ideas on what I was supposed to do on the field.”
“Same, my mom wanted me to go to nationals and get scholarships,” I explained, smiling humorlessly. “It turns out my entire team wanted to take away my captain title and give it to another girl. So, I guess I wasn’t as good at it as I thought I was.”
“That sucks,” he agreed, making me laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. “You have a nice laugh.”
“Don’t flirt with me. I just died,” I said, but I couldn’t stop myself from giggling.
“I died in 1983, I’m allowed to flirt,” he replied, bumping my shoulder with his. “You’re going to be okay, Sabrina.”
“Brina, my friends call me Brina,” I corrected, turning my head to look at him. “And you’re my friend.”
“That’s presumptuous of you, Brina,” he said, smiling brightly when he turned to look back at me.
A genuine smile tugged at my lips, one bigger than the false one I’d used today. My life was over and I’d found out the people I trusted weren’t trustworthy. I cheered in the stadium named after the goofy guy beside me, but I think I liked him more than my living friends.
~
And that's the first chapter of my story! I'd love to hear y'all's input on it! Tell me what you liked, what you didn't like, anything really. I'm working on this as inspiration hits and have another 2 chapters ready to go. I hope you liked this one!

A continuation of this post, more quotes from me and @look-at-those-niceass-rocks watching Pink Ladies together, this time episodes 4-7 (again shared with permission, and since the cast is in the house, @saveourpinks, please enjoy our unhinged dumbassery):
Principal Nicholson is a fuckin' weenie
(during Sorry to Distract) I am looking respectfully. I am looking SO respectfully. Their husband, distantly: I doubt that Me: *WHEEZE*

(@ Buddy) OH POOR FUCKING BABY, find purpose outside of your socially assigned tasks
Fucking of course his name is Leonard
Them: I would've gone fucking feral for this show in high school. Both of us, in sync: I'm going fucking feral for it now
Me: Anyway, rest in peace Cynthia Zdunowski, you would've loved they/them pronouns Them: *CHOKE*

(Note I couldn't breathe for a Hot Minute, I forgot they somehow hadn't seen any spoilers for this show)
Richie: Jane's my girl, not my boss Them: YOu are wrong, she is both. I've seen the way you look at her I'm not a fuckin' idiot.
Me: Anytime I see Lydia or Cynthia I just embody that one quote- Did you ever watch Boy Meets World? Them: What, no? Me: Hang on, there's a quote from Shawn, I'll find it (Note it took me five minutes to find this clip, 2:00-2:09 if you're curious, but the quote is: Aw to heck with it, marry me! I live in a trailer park and I have no education but my hair does this!)
The entirety of Merely Players consisted of a stream of: fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
(@ Mr. Pedo Man) You deserve beige you piece of shit
KEEP EVERY PART OF YOUR BODY AWAY FROM THIS LITERAL CHILD
(After Jane and Richie's fight) Think about the last time a boy gave her his jacket you fucking dipshit, you goddamn weenie.
(Honorable mention: Both of us replying to everything Richie said in that argument with "Yeah, it is about her, it's her life, what's wrong with her wanting an education???")
Me: I love how the most scathing insult you can think of is to call someone a weenie, are you eight? Them: It's fifties appropriate!
Vaughn: You are a revelation! Them: Yeah, she's a revelation to my fucking sexuality
Them: [Husband], they're lesbians! Husband, nowhere near the computer: I know

(during Girl's Can't Drive): Mama I'm a Big Girl Now walked so this song could fucking RUN
Them: So when does Hazel get a jacket? Me: I have no idea what you're talking about, shut up
(After me reading them the discrepancies between the amount of Thesbians fics on AO3 to literally anything else) I am addressing this to every single person who writes in this fandom, puh-LEASE seek therapy
Me: *short rant on how I Cannot Resist a Butch in a White Tshirt* Them: I'm just obsessed with [Lydia's] robe, I wanna take it...off. [Husband]: *unintelligible* Them: THE ACTOR IS AN ADULT I CAN FIND THEM ATTRACTIVE
(after I pointed out that Lydia keeps staring out the window at the Frosty Palace like she's waiting for someone) I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE
Me: I have a fic for you Them: if it's more Potato, I'm down
Olivia: *slaps Richie* Them: She could wake me up like that, I wouldn't complain
I would be a 1950s housewife for Potato
Them: I am no longer simping for Richie Me: He's having a hard time right now Them: I know this, and I will resume simping later when he's done being stupid
T-Birds: *having a heart-to-heart* Them: *sniff* They're all coming over to my house and I'm making them soup and bread
Richie: I think I'm in love (one tear catches light) Both of us, Supernatural veterans: ~a single man-tear~ *FIVE MINUTES OF WHEEZING LAUGHTER*

March 20, 1964
Principal photography for ‘Roustabout’ started on March 20, 1964. On that day an article appeared in a Las Vegas newspaper that would hurt and haunt Elvis for the rest of his life.
‘Would you believe that Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole owe part of their current success to Elvis Presley?’ was the title of the piece that went on to say, ‘These two brilliant Shakespearean-trained actors, winning worldwide acclaim for their performances in ‘Becket’ might not have had the opportunity to star in the picture, were it not for Sir Swivel Hips’.
Quoting producer Hal Wallis, the article indicated that it was the profits from the commercially successful, light-hearted Elvis movies that made it possible for Wallis to fund the production of more ‘artistic pictures’. The article was picked up by the news services and printed throughout the country. For Elvis it confirmed his fears that he was never going to be taken seriously as an actor.
