#princess luz AU

Oh, the great maker of trauma for the beans that are part of Princess Luz Au, heed my query and answer me:
Did Luz get any big bad evil guy energy or skill from being raised by the waste of space previously known as Belos?
I mean as we all know Luz is a precious bean, but I think she deserves to be a little evil towards bad people, like I assume that Hunter is already planning how to murder (or worse) Amity's parents, even if he isn't fully aware of it/is in denial that he is planning the horrors on the for making Amity, but I stay with me for a moment and imagine the verified cinnamon roll Luz Noceda Wittebane putting the fear of Titan into Odalia after learning that she abused Amity.
Also, her snapping out of it after Odalia faints out of fear (and pain), and panicking that she is just like below only for her parteners to be like, 'nooo~ it was hot normal and perfectly sane thing to do'.
this answer Might be disappointing in some ways, mainly: i don't Think luz would be physically violent with them without provocation, and i also don't think she's likely to lose emotional control around them. she'd want to be just as poised around amity's parents as she always was around belos and always is around the coven heads.
HOWEVER. as for the questions of "does luz know how to be scary" and "did she learn that from belos": UNEQUIVOCAL yes. to both.
i've been wanting to play with luz in this space with amity's parents for A While, actually, so. have a little fic :)
-
"Oh, Amity is my pride and joy," Odalia says, placing a hand over her heart. "I taught her everything she knows."
"Yes, I did get that impression." The Empress smiles, rising to her feet. "It's incredible how much she's accomplished in spite of you."
Odalia's breath catches around a shocked, bitten-down laugh. "Your Majesty, begging your pardon, I believe you meant 'because of-'"
"In spite of," Luz repeats, very firmly. "It's fortunate that Lilith Clawthorne has taken such an interest in her wellbeing."
Odalia's smile doesn't waver, but it does remain frozen for several seconds before she says, "I suppose Amity feels the need to invent an adversary. Some great trial she overcame to earn her place here. It's understandable. Children often lack the foundation to understand the sacrifices their parents make. She had a very privileged upbringing."
"Amity has never spoken unkindly of either of you," Luz says, although this she seems to mean more for Alador, whose face may give more away.
She steps lightly down the stairs from the throne, joining the pair of them on the ground. "Amity rarely speaks of either of you at all, actually. That isn't why I've called you here."
Odalia's voice turns cool, corporate. "Then how can we help you, Your Majesty?"
"Did you know that Blight Industries has a higher rate of workplace accidents than..." Luz slides a folder out of her tunic, flips it open, and raises her eyebrows. "...any other company on the Isles?"
This time, Odalia's laugh covers something else. "That's - that's preposterous. Our workplace safety records are excellent. Why, we haven't needed a single intervention by the Healing Coven in... oh, is it three years?" She taps the side of her mouth, frowning. "Four? Five?"
"That's fascinating," Luz says. "Not even for a scrape?"
"Abrasions heal quite well by themselves, given time."
"Absolutely fascinating," Luz repeats. "Did you know that it's illegal to purposefully deny people healing services?"
Odalia scoffs, incredulous. "For scrapes?"
"I know," Luz says pleasantly, "I was surprised, too. There are a lot of laws like that, it turns out. Text on paper that hasn't been enforced in half a century. From what I understand, this one is a holdover from early Empire anxieties. People were terribly worried about not having access to personal healing magic anymore. So healing services had to be protected."
Odalia's smile has become more teeth than pleasantry. "What a fun little history lesson. I'm sure you know all sorts of facts about the early Empire."
"It turns out that it's very easy to put laws in writing," Luz says, "without the intention to enforce them. My father, may the Titan bless him, had precious little interest in the rights of individuals to be seen by healers. But this isn't his Empire anymore. And I find the topic just captivating."
Odalia has stopped trying to hide her impatience, now. "So you'll fine us for not having healers on hand to wave away every little paper cut. That's fine. I apologize for the oversight. We'll settle up and make sure that going forward-"
"Mr. Blight," Luz says, ignoring Odalia entirely, "would you kindly remove your gloves for me?"
Alador startles.
Odalia doesn't glance at him. Her eyes are fixed unblinking on Luz. She speaks through her teeth, nearly a hiss. "Don't feel compelled to do that, dear."
"I assure you, I can compel him to do that," Luz says. Then, in a tone that would almost pass for apologetic if it wasn't so practiced, "I am sorry to compel it of you. I try not to compel my subjects very often. But if you find it difficult to remove your gloves, my scouts would be happy to assist you."
The scouts around the base of the throne don't move. Odalia's eyes slide uneasily over them anyway.
"That won't be necessary," Alador says, speaking for the first time. He pulls the gloves off without fanfare, holding up his hands.
Half of his left ring finger and pinky are conspicuously missing.
If Luz is uncomfortable with this revelation, she sure isn't showing it. "Oh, that's so interesting," she says, leaning forward to get a closer look. "The Healing Coven keeps meticulous records, and I'm certain a partial amputation was never reported to them. You were born with all five fingers, yes? I'm sure Amity will attest to that."
"This was from an accident in my personal lab," Alador says, with the mechanical precision of something rehearsed. "The severed digits were not... salvageable."
"It's so amazing that you were able to make that determination," Luz says, "without even needing to consult the Healing Coven. You must be a very proficient magician."
Alador blinks.
"Regardless," Odalia interrupts, "it happened outside of Blight Industries. The company isn't liable. You haven't 'gotten' us."
"Do you ever test Blight Industries products in your personal lab, Mr. Blight?"
"Prototypes," he says.
Odalia makes a sharp, exasperated gesture. "Alador!"
"That seems like company business to me," Luz says, still pleasant, still conversational. "Now, I will be fully transparent, before you accuse me of anything with regards to prejudice - it is true that I hate you both. It is true that I've hated you both for a while now. If you feel like I'm targeting you because I hate you, then you're very astute."
Odalia's fingers twitch, threatening to curl into fists.
Luz continues, "However, it's also true that there is no bias where my judgment is concerned. Not legally, anyway. So it doesn't matter whether I hate you or not. Whatever I decide to do with you is the Titan's will. Government is amazing."
Odalia exhales sharply.
When Luz doesn't waver, she shakes her head. For the first time, her voice cracks - properly cracks. There's a tiny tremble in her hands.
"Amity won't forgive you if anything happens to us," she says - but there's no bravado, no power, only pathetic uncertainty. "Regardless of any... petty grievances she may harbor. Family is everything to a Blight. She won't forgive this."
"I know that," Luz says. "I promise, I have no intention of doing Amity any unkindness. It's not her fault you two have chosen to be what you are."
Another sharp exhale. Odalia's breathing is ragged, audible. She's clearly not a woman accustomed to fearing for her own safety.
"That's fantastic news!" she chirps.
Luz's smile is beatific, magnanimous. The serene expression of someone who's never questioned the divine right of kings.
"Unfortunately, I'm not wholly opposed to doing an unkindness," she says, "if we can't seem to reach an agreement. It's really up to you how this goes."
She looks from Odalia to Alador and back, tilting her head.
"So. How badly do both of you want to live?"

So, since I drew that Adventure Time au picture of good beardo Philip and little Luz, I have some headcanons of the story:
(this also includes the cannon adventure time and Fionna and Cake series too)
Luz and Philip:
So, instead of Philip being a bad guy, he's actually a good decent man. Caleb raised him, and didn't abandoned him. And eventually, Evelyn became his mum in a way.
Before the mushroom war, he was into a while different professions. This includes engineering, travelling and world history. He met his fiance, Rosayln, an oc I came up with.
But he obtained a mask (the emperor Belos mask) on one of his adventures with his brother. He, jokingly, out in the mask and it turned him bonkers. Rosalyn leaves him.
So after the bomb went off, he is cannon beado Philip from the Elsewhere and Elsewhen episode. He finds little Luz, who isn't a vampire yet, but is fully human.
Philip takes her in, and has to learn how to be a parent. His first gift to her was an Azura plushie, and that eventually led to Philip creating stories about The Good Witch Azura books (Azura is Fionna and cake here)
Characters:
Finn: Hunter
Jake: Gus
Bubble Gum: Amity
BMO: King
Yeah, let me know who you want to see as who please.
Oh, one more thing:
Philip's nickname for Luz is Bumblebee.

!!!TOH S2 E20 SPOILERS (kinda)!!!
Okay but imagine Luz gets possessed and then after she gets unpossessed the "Luz shows up prince charming style in Amity's window" gets paralleled with Amity showing up prince charming style to take her to a safer location, maybe we get an Amity carrying Luz Wing It Like Witches style
For some reason I keep thinking of snow white when I think of this scenario? I don't know why but I feel it's worth mentioning.

Princess Luzura of The Boiling Isles
This is an Owl House AU fanfic that's been on my mind for a while, so I thought you all would enjoy it! The poll results said you would, so this is the prologue!
______________________________________
Prologue
The girl backflipped onto the stable ground of the cliff as she braced to attack. Her mint green hair and white dress flowing in the wind.
"Foolish child, I could swallow you whole!" The massive purple snake monster shouted, baring it's fangs.
"Do not underestimate me, Gildersnake! For I am the Good Witch Azura, Warrior of Peace!"
A slight pause, then the witch knelt down and loaded her staff.
"NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!" She yelled, firing massive fireballs at the Gildersnake as it recoiled and fell.
"No, my only weakness! Dying!" The Gildersnake's last words were.
A loud crash onto the cave's floor, and the monster lay dead forevermore-
"Princess?" A guard knocked at Luzura's door, the thirteen-year-old shoving her 'Good Witch Azura' book underneath a stack of papers.
"Y-Yes? What is it?" She answered.
"Your father would like to see you, your majesty."
"Ah, yes, I'm coming. Thank you." Luzura clipped on her white Emperor's coven cloak, exiting her bedroom and walking through the corridor towards the throne room.
Two guards stood in front of the entrance, talking about something that was evidently funny, given how much giggling was going on.
Luzura's stomach began to squeeze, for some reason, their laughs affected her. She felt that they were laughing at her, despite that the giggling was going on before she showed up.
Despite this feeling, her face remained stiff, as she cleared her throat to announce her presence. The guards jolted, just now noticing Luzura, and stepped out of the way and opened the door.
The girl stepped inside, taking a few steps before the door shut behind her. There, she waited.
The emperor sat on his throne across the room, his staff in one hand, the other's fingers tapping against the arm of his throne.
"You requested my presence, Father?" She asked, taking a deep breath.
"Yes, come in, Luzura."
She walked up to him until she was just a few feet away from the throne. She curstied, staying like that with her head bowed.
"I wanted to discuss your progress in your studies, Luzura."
Oh boy, here we go again...
"Your work is becoming...sloppy, my dear, and you're letting yourself be distracted from what's important. I would hate to see your priorities be shifted."
"My apologies, Father, I am trying my best in my studies."
"I can see that you are, but I can also see the various drawings on your papers and such. And you are taking longer and longer to complete what you need to."
"Father, I can explain-"
"There is no need to, you're young, you're imaginative. But you need to set your fantasies aside if you ever hope to be a good empress in the future."
"I understand."
"Good. That is all. You should head to bed, it's getting late."
She stood up, exiting the room, and walking back into her quarters to prepare for bed.
After going through her nightly ritual, Luzura poked her head through her door, making sure the coast was clear, before slinking back into her bedroom and pressing a stone into the wall.
Said wall then opened up into a secret room. Only Luzura knew of this room, and she used that to her advantage. The room had bean bag chairs, action figures, shelves and shelves of books, and posters of various fictional characters littered the walls.
All of these were her "secret nerd things" as she called them, hidden away from the eyes of her father.
She snatched a book off of a shelve, plopping onto a bean bag to immerse herself into another world until she actually went to bed hours later.

Princess Phoebe AU (Updated)
Her name is Phoebe.
She woke up the first time she could remember with her father hovering over her, worry and fear on every part of his face. And Phoebe hadn't known where she was or whom was looking over her. Father had called forth her cousin and he'd lifted her up, carried her to a room they told her was hers, then Father had told her Cousin to leave them alone so they could speak in private.
Father explained everything.
Her name is Phoebe Wittebane
He was her father, Phillip.
They were them two the only humans in a world of monsters. Thorugh many trials and tribulations, many sacrifices just for Father to stay alive, he was working on a way to get them back to where they belonged.
He told Phoebe that she was the daughter of his heart, but not of his blood. She had been found in a special place at the head of the titan. He'd been looking for a being called the Collector that he was working with to bring them home, and as he'd come he'd seen terrible demons trying to devour this precious infant. One he hadn't even realized was one of his own until after he'd saved her. So of course he'd taken her under his care.
He'd named her Phoebe as she shined like the sun, and he wanted all to know her light.
He informed her that her Cousin was the son of his brother Caleb. She'd never met him, Caleb died before he found her, betrayed by the mother of his own son, And Father told her that all Witches were like that. Horrible deceitful betrayers. He worried over Hunter, Caleb's son and her Cousin, that his half-witch status might make him something different. So he'd made him The Golden Guard of their little swatch of the world.
He had come into power in their temporary home by sheer accident, that the world had become convinced that he could speak to the bones of their dead god the Titan. And he'd found himself unable to do anything but agree. He'd been named Emperor Belos long ago.
So she could only call him 'Phillip' in private. Only when it was the two of them. But any time she could call him father. In fact he encouraged her to call him father all the time!
Princess Phoebe of the Boiling Isles now, in a few months, Phoebe Wittebane, daughter of Witch Hunter General Phillip.
Phoebe checked herself in the mirror. The gauntlets that hid the painful scars the witches that had taken her memories from her had given her were nice and in place. As was the gorget around her collar hiding similar burns.
Her long chestnut brown hair was pulled back into a series of complicated braids to look princess-like, gold and red jewels standing out against the dark, one of which being the illusion charm Adrian made her that made her ears look pointed.
And of course, the most important part of her wardrobe, the golden circlet around her forehead. The ruby red gem right in the center of her forehead. Marking her as a princess.
Sometimes it almost felt like the circlet was magic too, at least, it felt almost like it was jolting her when Hunter would look at her like he was holding back a mountain of apologies. Or that time Steve had brought in a wanted poster for the Owl Lady and it felt like her entire brain got full of static... Father told her the Owl Lady and her friends were the reason why she'd lost her memory, and that was probably a trauma response so she dismissed that.
Sometimes her name didn't sound like her name.
Sometimes she'd be lost in writing her stories about the Good Witch Luzura and her lover the Good Witch Mittenia that people would call out 'Phoebe' multiple times before she'd realize someone was talking.
Once she'd gotten so into Luzura's head that someone called her 'Luz' and it got her attention immediately.
But it was okay. It was all okay. This year was the year. The Eclipse was soon. The Day of Unity would come, and she and Father and Hunter would all go home. A home Phoebe didn't remember of course. But that was fine.
Father remembered enough for the both of them. Remembered enough about Phoebe, about magic, about everything.
Phoebe trusted her Father, of course she did.
Why wouldn't she?
Her name is Phoebe.

We have our luz!
Um, she was really into screencore in middle school, and still really likes neon colored things.
I think the egg that she carves as her palisman would hatch into a dragon creater thing, maybe or a snake called William Snakespeare.

i told y’all. i told y’all i was gonna go crazy over this post made by @gummy-goat-galaxy
full disclosure i drew literally all of this before looking into the details of the AU so this is 70% my interpretation of his original post but i need to explain my thought process so. here’s the post explaining the details of the actual AU!!! and below is what my brain made up on the spot
ok so belos finds tiny child luz and is like “fuck everyone. this is mine now” and treats her like a goddamn princess. to him, she is a Gift From God to remind him to stay on his Righteous Path. an innocent little girl who is just so bubbly and always tries to see the good in everything, including him. she is a reminder of how Pure and Good humanity is, and seeing as though she’s the literal only human he’s had any contact with besides caleb in 400 fucking years, he is never letting the demon realm corrupt her like it did to him.
she’s basically his Lamb and he the Shepherd, and because he’s so desperate to keep her “““pure”““ he strictly keeps her within the castle and even then not all of the castle is available to her. he keeps her contact with witches to an absolute bare minimum.
he entrusts her protection specifically to hunter, despite the fact he’s only 2 years older. his reasoning is “caleb did a pretty good job raising me so this’ll be fine probably.” when belos himself cannot keep an eye on her, it’s hunter’s job. luz and hunter end up being raised in a sorta similar situation to catra & adora from she-ra but they are actually siblings and not just best friends.
(if u havent seen she-ra, basically its their abusive caretaker creating a golden child + scapegoat dynamic, where one kid can do absolutely no wrong (which doesnt mean they cant still be abused/manipulated!!) while the other kid is blamed for literally everything that goes wrong. the caretaker also regularly pits them against each other to encourage competition & keep the all power in the caretaker’s hands.)
similar to catra & adora, the whole competition thing doesnt really work. luz is just too damn kind and too damn good for hunter to ever resent her, and she’s all he really has. because hunter is the scapegoat, he grows wise to belos’s manipulations WAY sooner. it’s easier to figure out when you’re being mistreated when you literally watch ur guardian treating ur sibling so much better than how they treat u.
unfortunately, because luz cannot help but see the good in absolutely everyone and can be empathetic to a fault, she doesnt realize belos’s game until she ends up sneaking out of the castle. she actually really loves belos and is thankful for him taking her in for a long time. she calls him uncle like hunter, despite belos nudging her towards seeing him as a father bcus he sees her as a pseudo-daughter. (but luz remembers her dad, and has no desire to replace him with someone else no matter how much she cares for belos)
belos does love & adore luz, he would do almost anything to keep her happy and “innocent” and “pure”, but not to the extent that he could still end up redeemed. he still manipulates & subtly emotionally abuses her to keep her in line, but it’s only when she sneaks out and meets eda the owl lady does she start getting clued into this. and once luz learns what belos has done to hunter it’s all fucking over.
hunter loves luz. she is his sister and always will be. but while he’s stuck to belos because of his duties as golden guard, she sees how green the grass is on the other side and doesn’t even hesitate to hop over there. watching her slowly grow more and more distant while she keeps sneaking out to visit with her new friends (eda, king, willow, gus, amity, etc.) is one of the most painful things hunter has had to deal with.
he feels betrayed at first, as if luz is replacing him with other people who arent broken like he is, and when luz actually leaves for good- belos lies to the public and says she was kidnapped- hunter is the one who leads the hunt to find her and bring her back home safely. when they confront each other, luz tries to do her whole dramatic speech about how wrong belos is and how he’s been lying their whole lives, but hunter already knows. the only reason he stayed was for luz, but she couldnt even stay from him? it fuckin hurts man.
they end up on opposite sides for a minute. hunter gains no satisfaction from trying to ruin this new life she’s found for herself but goddamnit, he has a job to do. he cant just defect. and then he defects after watching belos try to kill luz because she’s let herself become corrupted by the witches.
thats about all my brain got for this so far. TL;DR basically just listen to the “first time in forever” and “mother knows best reprise” and “broken crown” by mumford & sons and thats pretty much the gist of it.

god i just started thinking about vee and hunter in the princess AU for the first time in.... a While. the current thought being that if vee first met hunter back when they were like 11 and 13ish, her first impression of him might actually have been sort of favorable. as in, "this is someone i can convince to help me."
which somehow feels.... SO much worse than hunter just, like, having playacted cruelty for belos the whole time. bc like. if the golden guard is just another emperor's coven soldier in belos's favor then it's whatever, it sucks but it is what it is. it's a reminder of past trauma and you don't trust him but it's Whatever. he's on par with a bunch of other bad people.
on the other hand. if the golden guard is someone you Begged for help, bc you caught a flash of sympathy-horror on his face, and you thought maybe another kid would understand The Horrors, and he chose to turn away from you anyway, then.
well.
That. That Is Personal .

Aang’s big ears and Luz’s human ears for the win >>>>
Hahaha yessss! Now you've got me thinking of an Zukaang TOH AU where Aang is a human and Zuko is a witch (pointy ears suit him tbh).
Omg and that also makes me think of a Lumity AtLA AU in which Luz is the Avatar and Amity is the banished Fire Princess...
I've gotta be careful or I'll be tempted to open google docs and start seriously brainstorming lol

Wait a minute. You made Amity a real princess! Is it because you wanted Lumity or because Amity has this title as nickname?
Sorta...
Also, since princess bubblegum is made of bubblegum, I decided that Amity is made of abomination goo!

thinking of royalty au lumity. so many people make amity the princess and luz her guard but it's also a ton of fun the other way around
amity runs away from her mom and trains to become a guard instead
luz makes so many attempts to sneak out (maybe to visit willow or gus?) and amity is basically always there to stop her
(when they get closer, amity might occasionally travel out with her, just to make sure she's safe.)
willow swears she recognises amity from somewhere, but she can't figure out how (mtf amity?)
from time to time, luz attempts to sneak out just for the sake of extra time with amity

Princess Luzura Of The Boiling Isles
Chapter 4! The part we've all been waiting for! I hope you enjoy!
______________________________________
Chapter 4: The Intruder
"And here we have the most fearsome creature in the world: The King of Demons, facing his natural enemy, the ducky sock."
Luzura recorded King with a strange rectangle she found in one of Eda's piles of human artifacts, giggling to herself as King tore the ducky sock to shreds. She'd snuck off to the Owl House again for another magic lesson, but found herself occupied by her silly demon friend.
"Where are you now, ducky sock!?" He yelled, stomping on his fallen enemy's remains.
"So, why'd you call me over again?"
"Oh, yeah!", King climbed onto a large chest next to a board with a sheet on it, "Princess Luzura! You've been so obsessed with witchcraft, that you have yet to learn anything about my kind! Prepare yourself for...."
He tore the sheet off, revealing charts, diagrams, sketches, and photos of various demons and monsters. It was quite impressive, actually!
"Demonds 101!"
King donned a professor's barret, tapping his claws.
"Demons like me are grim tricksters of the twilight, creatures of sulfur and bone-"
"And cute little paws!" The princess cooed.
"And cute little paws. True.", King sighed, "We live only to create chaos and misery. Our only weaknesses are purified water and passive-agressive comments. Sometimes."
"Aaw, you guys are sensitive!"
"Even demons have inner demons." King ripped a paper off to reveal a horrific image of a shelled, spiky creature, "The most powerful demon of all is the Snaggleback, he is a-"
"Bad boy!" Luzura laughed, playing with the rectangle's special effects.
"Luzura, pay attention! This information could save your life one day!"
"Oh no, I am so paying attention!" She defended, pulling a serious face.
A loud crack of thunder suddenly shook the house.
"Uh oh, Looks like it's gonna rain."
"Oh. Maybe I should head back to the castle, then. It would be bad if someone found out I was gone when the weather gets bad." Luzura picked up her bag and walked out the door.
She inhaled the salty smell of the air, ever-so-slightly saltier with the upcoming rain. Luzura looked down at a pink flower, being taken aback when it wilted suddenly.
Raindrops quickly started pouting down just ahead of the Owl House, Eda running out of the woods.
"Boiling Rain! Everybody inside now!" Eda screamed, dragging Luzura by the arm back into the house. They jumped in just as the rain reached their front porch.
"Whew! That was close! But the important thing is that you didn't get hurt!"
Luzura groaned on the floor, a mug landing on her head from the crash.
"Yep. Not hurt."
Eda snorted, standing up and stepping outside. She activated a small field around herself so she didn't get burned.
Luzura stepped out too, looking at a stinging burn on her arm until King slapped a bandage on it, and then his own nose.
"There! Now where Boo-Boo Buddies!" He joked. Luzura squealed.
"Ohmytitan, I love you so much..."
Boiling Rain is a perfect fit for the Boiling Isles. Scalding hot raindrops flew down from the sky, sending bystanders into a panic. They rushed indoors anywhere they could, they took their plants of off their windowsills, and they even sought refuge from cracks in the walls.
"Yep. The weather here kinda sucks, plagues, gorenados, shale hail, painbows..." Eda ranted.
"Painbows?"
"It's like a rainbow, but looking at it turns you inside out!" King exclaimed.
"So until the rain stops, no one is allowed outside tonight." Eda ordered.
"But what if someone at the castle finds out I'm gone? I can't get back!" Luzura asked.
"Oh, please. Anyone knows that rain is the perfect opportunity to stay in and lounge around, even those emperor chumps."
"And if it doesn't get you, the Snaggleback will! They wander the rains feeding on boiled tourists!" King said, opening up a book about the monster.
"Well, whatever the case, this force field will protect the house from boiling rains, and made-up demons." Eda smirked.
"Hoot! Well, hurry it up with that force field. That rain is getting closer to my precious stucco!" Hooty yelled.
"Yeah, yeah, I got it..." Eda said. She pierced a magical orb she was conjuring with her staff, spinning it in the air. The force field spread out into a bubble around the house, conforming to its shape.
"Wow, some day I'd like to be as cool as Eda the Owl Lady. Magical, sassy, surprisingly foxy for her age- Why do they call you the Owl Lady anyway?"
"Cause I'm so wise." Eda answered.
"Cause she coughs up rat bones." Hooty injected.
"I think it's cause she gets distracted by shiny objects." King added.
"No I don't-!"
King pulled a light-up diamond pen from under his hat, clicking a button to make it shine. Eda's pupils dilated.
"It sparkles and shimmers and shines and delights- I must have it for my nest...." Eda leapt for the pen, flipping onto her back.
"You have a nest? I want a nest! Nest party!" Luzura laughed.
"Ugh, That force field really took it outta me..."
"Uh-oh. Moving a little slow. Age finally catching up to you?" King joked. Eda grumbled and pulled his hat above his eyes.
"Ah! Darkness!"
"This is perfect! Since we'll be stuck here for a while, Eda won't have any excuse not to teach me a spell!" Luzura leapt enthusiastically.
"Wait, what about our lesson? I was gonna let you scratch a demon's tummy. Me!" King whined.
"Oh, uh, Sorry, King. But magic..." She attempted an excuse before running off.
Eda snapped her fingers to change into her louging clothes. She plopped herself on the couch, sighin, but jumping when a shadow came over her.
"Eda, did I tell you how rad your fang looks today?"
"Whatever it is, no."
"And your hair is like...guuuurl...."
"I'm not teaching you magic tonight. I'm sleepy. I'm a sleepy little owl." Eda snatched a blanket and rolled herself up in it.
"Please, Eda, please. How can I earny witch's staff if I don't know any spells?" Luzura begged.
"No. Sleep." Eda pulled the blanket over her head. She was content to pass out right then and there, until the clicking of a pen caught her attention.
"Sparkle thing!"
She leapt out of her covers, and onto the arm of the couch, seeing Luzura holding the diamond pen.
"Oh, this?" The princess taunted, "Teach me one spell, and you may have your sparkle thing."
"I respect your cunning, but I also hate you for it." Eda said from the floor.
She got up, summoning her staff. Luzura plopped down onto the floor.
"If you want a witch's staff like mine, don't make me repeat.....myself....." Eda nearly passed out before she finished her sentence.
"Witch's staffs have magic embedded into them. But before one is earned, they must learn to cast spells on their own." Eda said.
She tossed her staff away, pointing her finger in the air.
"Now. Tonight I will show you how to create light." She drew a golden magic circle in the air, which formed an orb of light from its center. It glided down to the young royal, popping like a bubble. Luzura's eyes sparkled at the spectacle.
"Booooring. Whats the fun in that when you can learn all the fun ways demons can kill you!", King held up a childish drawing, "Look how teethy. Bite! Bite!"
"Be quiet. I need to focus." Luzura mostly ignored him.
"Now, some people think that magic comes from thin air, which is stupid. Everything comes from something. Let me ask you, kid: Where do you think magic comes from?" Eda continued her lesson.
"From the heart?" Luzura took a shot in the dark with that one.
"Actually......You're right!"
Luzura squealed in delight.
"No actually you are! Magic is stored in a bile sac attached to a witch's heart." Eda pulled a diagram out of her hair.
"Oh, gross."
"Now, everything depends on the spell circle. The bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell." She drew a bigger circle, creating a bigger ball of light.
"But, I'm a witch, and I can't cast magic. Is there something wrong with my bile sac?" Luzura asked, pointing at her chest.
"Hmmm. I actually don't know! I know they did magic differently back then, but I never bothered to figure out how." Eda snorted.
"Awww, what?!" The teenager whined.
"Aw, don't worry kid. You'll figure it out." Eda ruffled Luzura's hair, before cracking her back, "Now, I gotta lie down."
Luzura gripped her arm, "Wait! Show me the spell one more time! I'll record it this time." She pulled out the small rectangle.
She pulled up the camera, and began recording Eda as she rubbed her eyes.
"Smile! You're on camera! One more spell won't kill you."
"Oh, fine! Now the spell circle is....really key....because..." Eda yawned while drawing a wobbly spell circle, falling face first into the carpet.
"Oh, looks like one more spelling killed Eda." King joked.
Luzura gasped in horror, "Oh no! My obsession with spells knocked out Eda! I'm a monster!"
King crawled over to the old woman, lightly slapping her face.
"Yep, she's out.", He did it again, laughing, "Juhust making sure."
"We need to get help, right?" Luzura leapt up and began to rush out the front door, before her leg was grabbed by the small demon.
"Boiling rains, remember?!"
"No, let her try. It'll be funny" Hooty said, King slamming the door shut.
"But what if Eda's dead!?" The pair looked over to the passed out owl lady, hearing her snores and mumbles.
"Remember when her head got cut off last week? That woman can survive anything! She's probably just tired from staying up all night chasing shrews and voles." King explained.
"Well, we can't just leave her on the floor..."
The two kids dragged Eda up the stairs, to her bedroom, and into her nest.
"Sorry for pushing you, Ms. Eda....Please don't hurt me when you wake up..." Luzura pleaded as if Eda could hear her.
"Should I bap her again?" King asked.
"Just leave her be, you little goober!"
The princess walked out, and King slapped her anyway before following her.
The two of them went back to doing miscellaneous activities to pass the time, King drawing a demon from his book and Luzura attempting to draw magic circles.
"Ugh, Eda did this like nothing! Why you gotta be so cryptic, Owl Lady!?" Luzura pulled the rectangle out, watching the video for the 50th time.
King flipped the notepad over it, "Hey, y'know what's really cryptish? Lemme tell you about the most spine-chilling demon: Smoochie Pie the Sweetie Baby!", he showed her his doodle of a fish with spiky fins, "It's a lot more threatening than the name sounds but-"
"Not now, King. I wanna finish this spell.", Luzura sighed, "But if I've got a defective bile sac, what's the point? I'll just be twirling my fingers around unmagically forever..."
"Why do you want to learn magic do bad anyway?"
She sighed again.
"I'm a nobody back at the castle, or anywhere else. Sure, I'm the Princess, but what good is a title if I can't live up to it? I'm a powerless witch who's next in line for the throne, after the most powerful witch on the entire Boiling Isles! I'm a joke. If I learned to be a witch, I'd finally be somebody. It's not like I'm learning anything there. Do you know what it's like to haevno one take you seriously?"
King sighed, "If I help you with the spell, can we finish our lesson?"
"Oh! Yes, you can teach me about demons all week of you help me cast the spell!"
"Well, Eda said they used to do magic differently, so there has to be a way, right? And I have a theory...", the demon scrawled a rough diagram of his theory, "Every day, I see her sneaking sips of this special elixir, see? And afterwards, she always gets a boost of energy, see? I think that's where she gets her powers! And I know where to get some."
"Really?"
"Sí."
"Oh, thank you, you're a prince!" Luzura scooped King into a hug.
"King. I'm King."
"Right."
Thunder continued to roar outside as King snuck up the stairs to Eda's room. He creaked the door open as the Owl Lady snored in her nest. King looked around the room, spotting the gold elixir on the nestside table.
He quietly walked up to the table, nearly taking his foot off when a bear trap snapped shut.
"Ha! Nice try." He taunted, only to see the trap's eye open as it walked away.
"Nah, my heart wasn't in it..."
He finished climbing up to the bottle, lifting up half-ripped off tag to read it.
"An elixir a day...Huh, cryptic." He left the room and returned to Luzura, who was sitting at the kitchen table.
"Got it!" Luzura took the bottle, and popped the cork out.
"Wow, I'm about to learn magic. Real magic! This is historic..." She slowly lifted the bottle to her mouth, about to take a sip. Suddenly, a flash of lightning startled her, making the bottle fly out of her hands and crash onto the hard floor.
"Golden elixir gone! This is awful!"
"Who even needs a light spell when we have tons of lamps!?" King asked, and as soon as he said that, the entire house went dark.
"Ugh, Hooty controls the house lights. He probably just fell asleep."
A loud crash came from the living room, Hooty shrieking.
They rushed into the living room, gasping at the horrible sight before them. The front door was torn clean off, Hooty knocked out on the floor. A large creature covered in shadow growled as it scratched the door, running out into the rain.
"Hooty! Hooty, are you in there?! Whatever did this escaped into the rain! What could survive that?!"
"Oh my gosh, the Snaggleback!" King exclaimed, remembering his book of demons, "It feeds during the rain. It must've come across our house and seen us inside!"
A bone-chilling howl came from the distance, the large monster flying in through the top floor window.
"This terrifying! Why do you look so happy?!" Luzura asked.
"Because this could be a great lesson! This is the perfect opportunity to see a demon up close in personal!"
"You wanna go toward those creepy sounds?! No way!"
"What if Eda gets eaten?! She's up there alone and defenseless because you knocked her out!"
Oh Titan, Eda!? She can't let anything happen to Eda!
They went back inside, armoring themselves with pillows and brooms. They walked up the stairs, using the flashlight of the square device, up to Eda's room.
The house was horribly dark, and the tapping of the rain didn't help matters. The flashlight was the only source of light, aside from the occasional flash of lightning or two, but everything just seemed creepier at night. The only thing you could hear was their racing hearbeats, rain, and the slight rustling of the distant beast.
The room was messier than it already was, the window was broken, the curtains were torn, and Eda's nest was empty.
"She got Snaggle-backed!" King screamed.
Luzura ran up to the nest, horrified to see slash marks in her pillows.
"King, you're the demon expert. What do we do!?"
"I'll go get my demon book!" King ran off alone, grabbing both the first and second edition of his books. When he got back, however, the room was now empty.
"Luzura?! The Snaggleback got her!"
Looming shadows ran through the house, King following behind.
"You craven beast! Give me back my Boo-Boo Buddy!"
He turned a corner, seeing a door creak closed, Luzura's boot laying in front of it.
King went into the closet, spotting a shadow underneath a rack of coats, "There's no where for you to run...", He pulled the coats back, "Snaggleback?"
The shadow turned out to be a quivering pink creature with a spiky blue shell, no bigger than King.
"Wow, you're a lot shorter in person..."
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I just needed somewhere to hide from the rains." The Snaggleback said.
"Then why'd you break down our door and take Luzura? That's not cool, man, bad Snaggleback!"
"I-I didn't do any of that, I swear! I snuck in through a window, just now!"
"Huh? Then what-"
A large clawed hand broke through the ceiling, snatching up the Snaggleback.
"Oh no, a twist!"
The closet door creaked open again, the now unknown monster stood at the entrance, burping up the Snaggleback's shell. It stomped towards the little demon, snarling.
"Stay back! Hey! Hey, I'm the King of Demons, okay? And as such, I demand you barf my friends back up!"
The monster raised its claws, swiping them at King, who ducked and ran under the beast and out into the hallway.
He rushed through the halls, the creature following behind, its glowing golden eyes only serving it to be more terrifying.
An arm reached out and grabbed King to pull him into a room. He kept quiet as the large shadow passed the door, and unti lthe coast was clear.
"Luzura!"
"Oh, King, I'm so glad you're safe!"
"Where'd you go?"
"I was looking after Eda, and she was gone. Then you were gone! Then a tripped and lost my shoe, but I see you found it!"
She took her boot, a lifted up her foot to put it on. King spotted something stuck to her sole. He peeled it off, seeing it was part of a tag.
"Keeps the curse at bay..." he read, blinking in surprise. He took the tag from earlier out and stuck the to together.
"An Elixir a Day Keeps the Curse at Bay!"
"Curse? Wait. What're you trying to say?"
"I was wrong the whole time! That's no Snaggleback! That creature is-"
A fist burst through the door, tearing it open. The light gave them a perfect view of the monster. Muscular, fuzzy arms, wings, and a whole body covered in gray feathers. It bared its fangs as it spotted the kids, a smile creeping on its face.
"Eda?!"
Eda raised her claw, about to swipe at them, but Luzura's movement made the rectangle fall out of her pocket, making the camera flash right in her eyes. She screeched as she reeled back, her pupils shrinking at the light.
With the newfound time, Luzura scooped up King and hid behind the windowsill on the balcony. Eda sniffed around for them, Luz throwing a can to lead her away.
"Oh man, Did you see her eyes?! They were all dark and freaky! What happened to her?"
"Don't you see? The elixir I gave you doesn't give Eda powers, it keeps her from turning into that! She's turned into a nightmare, and it's all my fault! I'm so sorry, Luzura. I wanted you to be into demons like you were into magic. I don't have many friends and no one even pays that much attention to me. I thought maybe if I taught you, someone would care about creatures like me." King lamented.
Luzura sat there, unknowing what to do. How could she just blow him off as she did? She's supposed to be a princess that cares about her future people. Well, she could start now. She smiled, pulling out the pen.
"Well, let's finish the lesson..." she said.
"Huh?"
"Eda's turned into some kind of demon. And who knows more about demons than the best teacher in the world?"
King took the pen and gave Luzura the biggest hug he could muster. He then grabbed a handful of leaves, and doodled a little picture of the beastly Owl Lady.
"Okay, She was big, hairy, and had giant black eyes. Demons with black eyes are usually sensitive to light. You can use that human wonder rectangle!" He said.
"I can't, the camera's all blasted." She said, pulling the device out.
"Well, how about that light spell?"
"You saw me. I can't draw spell circles. I'm not like Eda..." Luzura clicked the video to play it again, it began glitching in the middle of it. Upon a closer look, Luzura could make a pattern in the center of the circle.
"There's a pattern in the spell circle!"
"What?"
"It looks like this!" Luzura took a leaf and the pen, tracing the pattern. She tapped the pen when she finished, and the leaf began to glow and shrivel up. It crumpled itself I to a small, glowing orb of light.
Luzura's heart raced as she cupped the small light in her hands. It couldn't be, it just couldn't- but it is.
A powerless witch just performed magic.
"It's beautiful....I just did magic! I just did magic!" She yelled, jumping up in excitement.
"Shh! We're not gonna stip anything with something that small!" King said.
Eda roared in the distance, making Luzura dive down to douse the light.
"What do we do now?"King asked.
"I think I know how to get Eda back. Will you help me, Boo-Boo Buddy?"
"I'm kinda over that nickname, but okay!"
Eda sniffed around the living room, until a shiny pink light caught her eye. King leaned against the archway, holding the glowing pen.
"Oh dear, what is this? Oh my, it's just so dang shiny~" he teased.
Eda shrieked and gave chase, following Ling back through the halls and setting a trap. Eda slipped on a pile of books, flying underneath a blanket Luzura threw on her.
"I'm sorry, Eda, but this is for your own good!" Luzura completed drawing the pattern on the wall, and smacked it, making the whole house glow with a heavenly light.
Eda cracked her eyes open, sitting up and taking the straw out of her mouth. She was back in her nest, groggy and sick from all that judt happened. She turned her head, only to find that half of her face was still in beast mode. She yelped, quickly slurping down the rest of the elixir bottle.
Her eyes turned back to their golden color, and the gem on her chest stopped fading into darkness. Eda groaned, rubbing her temples.
"Ugh, What happened? I have the worst headache- and my mouth tastes like roadkil-"
She cut herself off by vomiting up an owl pellet, the shelless Snaggleback quaking inside.
"I'm just gonna....lie here a minute...."
Eda picked up the empty bottle, "I was lookin' for that..."
"Actually, we found an extra one in your closet!" King chimed in.
"King?! King, you stole my elixir?! I oughtta break every bone in your-"
"Shhhh! Look!" King pointed.
Luzura was sitting in the corner, drawing on square pieces of paper, orbs of light dancing in the air around her and the room.
"How is she doing that?" Eda whispered.
"I don't know, but she's doing it all on her own!" King said. They sat in wonder for a second, before King started again.
"Hey, I kinda messed a bunch of stuff up back there, and I wanted to say I'm sorry...."
"Well you better be! I've got a long list of disgusting chores with your name on it!", Eda growled, "But, it's not entirely your fault....I haven't been completely honest with you guys. When I was younger, I was cursed. I don't know exactly how it happened, all of know is that if I don't take my elixir.....well, that's why they call me the Owl Lady. No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right stuff, it's manageable..."
"Woah, so are you okay?" Luzura asked.
"There's nothing for you to worry about...It's under control, and if no one steals my elixir -King- then I'm fine. But, hey, look at this! A powerless witch doing magic! Good on you, kid."
"I had some encouragement from a great teacher..." Luzura said, looking down at King.
"Oh you..."
"UH. HEY! IS ANYONE THERE? HOOT, IM ON THE FLOOR! ITS COLD!" Hooty yelled from downstairs.
"That voice. That horrific voice!" King grumbled, stomping out the door.
"We'll take care of him. You stay in bed." Luzura told Eda, she then scooped up the Snaggleback and carried him out, "Come on you goopy fella, we'll set you free now.."
"Ow! Ow, I think my tail was digested..."
They left, closing the door behind them, and Eda flopped back into the nest, closing her eyes.
When she opened them, she was standing in a dark, empty void. The door to her old bedroom sat before her, creaking open. The blurry figure stood there with its giant white eyes, glaring at Eda.
"You. You're the one who cursed me, aren't you?!"
They said nothing, only standing there as Eda reached out to them.
"Who are you? WHO ARE YO-"
Eda gasped and launched herself back up, sighing.
Luzura stuck many band-aids to the claw marks on the door, it was still raining, so she didn't have worry about returning to the castle yet, "Welcome to the Boo-Boo Buddy club, Hooty."
"Finally I get to be a part of something!"
The Snaggleback sat on the couch, spouting off its experience with the owl beast to King.
"Then, shehad teeth in her stomach! Teeth in her stomach! Can you believe that?!"
"Oho, yeah! This'll be a great addition toy demon book!" King showed him the drawing.
"That book is filled with so many interesting things! Like this!", he grabbed the book and flipped to his page, "I'm one of the strongest demons on the Boiling Isles, huh?"
"Yeah, I'm gonna have to edit that..."
"Oh."
