THE ORANGE PEEL THEORY

- in which you ask the greasers to complete simple, unassuming tasks that you can easily do yourself. (the outsiders x gn!reader, fluff)

a/n - this is so cute omg 😭 the orange peel theory is so trivial but it’s a very neat concept and i love writing things like this. and thank you!!

includes: johnny, ponyboy, dally, sodapop, & darry

“Oh shoot, I dropped my pencil. Could you get it for me, please, JOHNNY?”

Johnny does it without hesitation. He doesn’t question it, even though the pencil is way closer to you than to him, and he has to bend at an awkward angle to pick it up. You could ask him for almost anything and he’d try his best to do it. He lives and breathes to help you.

“Yeah, I got it.”

“Hey, PONY, can you flip this page for me? My hands are real tired.”

Ponyboy is a bit confused, considering your hands are resting on the sides of your book already. However, when he thinks about it, you might’ve hurt your hands somehow or maybe you just don’t have the energy to complete a task that is seemingly very simple. In any case, he’ll put his thoughts aside and do it for you.

“Sure. Are you okay, though?”

“DALLY, could you peel this orange?”

He snorts and asks if you can’t do it yourself while taking the orange from your hands. He throws it from hand to hand over your head, and when you reach to take it from him, he’ll pull it back and peel it. He’s not bothered by it, but he will take half of the orange for himself as compensation.

“Done. Need help peeling off anything else of yours, now?”

“Wait, SODA, would you wipe the frosting off my cheek?”

When you ask this while making a cake with him, Sodapop assumes you’re playing around. He licks it off your cheek instead then bounces away before you can berate him for being gross. He would also do pretty much anything for you in his own way- as long as you don’t get too pissed at him.

“Hah! You can’t get mad, you asked for it.”

“DARRY, can you cut my hangnail for me?”

You ask, handing him a pair of nail clippers. He’s confused, astounded, and mildly amused by your proposition. He asks you if you can’t just do it yourself, but halfway through talking to you he changes his mind and gently grabs your hand. He’ll act annoyed, but secretly he enjoys taking care of you in these little ways.

“Can’t you… fine, fine, give me the clippers.”

things i noticed on my re-read:

- ponyboy has “almost—red hair.”

- johnny can’t say “boo to a goose.”

- ponyboy owes johnny 150$ from poker while they were in the church

- just a HILARIOUS quote “sent from heaven? had he gotten a good look at dallas?” ponyboy micheal curtis is hilarious and i don’t wanna hear anything else

- ponyboy isn’t like his parents, but his brothers are

- the curtis and shepard gang have a weird whistle that means “who’s there?” and people don’t talk about it enough

- dally called ponyboy “sleeping beauty.”

- soda’s letter to ponyboy had so many spelling and grammatical mistakes.

- dally had stubble when he went to get ponyboy and johnny “a stubble of colorless beard.”

- johnny’s crazy about drag races.

- dally thinks everything was cherry’s fault.

- dally has a cousin that lives in the area of the church, and told him it’d make a good hiding spot.

- johnny has a “deathly fear of cops.”

- jerry was too fat to climb through the church’s window.

- johnny was having fun in the church.

- soda wouldn’t quit messing with the reporters, he stole their hats and cameras, and even grabbed a cops gun.

- if johnny survived, he would’ve been crippled.

- two-bit’s mom said they should lock the door because of burglars, but darry just flexed his arms in response.

- two-bit was cleaning eggs off the floor after he knocked them off ponyboy’s pan.

- johnny would’ve been charged with manslaughter.

- soda went into darry’s closet to grab his jeans, and steve followed him in. apparently, “in a second, there was the general racket of a pillow fight.”

- two-bit’s mom is just like two-bit, except she isn’t lazy.

- randy’s thinking of leaving town.

- johnny and his mom look exactly the same, with black hair and big black eyes.

- the only difference is johnny has “fearful and sensitive” eyes, while her’s are “cheap and hard.”

- dallas looked out the window instead of at two-bit and ponyboy when he asked about johnny

- cherry had her hair up and she was wearing a ski jacket when she went to go meet the greasers.

- tim shepard has curly black hair and “smoldering” dark-blue eyes. he also has a scar from temple to chin because a “tramp” hit him with a broken soda bottle.

- tim accidentally stepped on ponyboy during the rumble.

- all johnny had ever wanted was for dallas to be proud of him.

- bob had the same smile as soda.

- greasers don’t eat in the school cafeteria.

- curly fell off from a telephone poll and he broke his arm. the face curly made was the same as sodapop’s when darry and ponyboy were fighting.

- when ponyboy wrote his theme, it didn’t hurt to think about johnny and dally.

DARRY’s thumb rubs along your thigh. he lay on his bed while you were sat at the desk besides him. you placed your vanity mirror on the wooden surface and had been working on your makeup for about half an hour.

darry had seen his mother put on makeup whenever she’d go out with his father, so he had a better idea of makeup than someone like steve or two bit. he liked whenever you asked him questions like ‘this or that’.

“which one? peach or mint?” you asked as you held up two lip glosses, the peach gloss in a soft pink tube and the mint in a sage green one.

darry seemed to think for a moment, humming in thought. “th’peach one.” he finally said, nodding his head in the direction of where you were holding the peach tube.

“thanks, dare.” you mumbled, your lips forming an ‘o’ shape, ready for application.

“why do you always put on makeup?” he asks, eyes fixated on you. a satisfying pop of your lips before you look over to him and shrug.

“dunno, makes me feel pretty.”

“you’re always pretty, darlin’.” darry continues, moving his hand from your thigh to your hand, interlocking both your fingers and squeezing.

“how d’ya get that thing so close to your eye?” SODAPOP asks. you’ve been doing your makeup for about ten minutes, soda watching you like a hawk.

“i just raise my eyelid and put the curler to my lashes, piece’a cake.” you shrug, mouth open as you apply some mascara. “really?” he asked, taking a glance at your drawer full of makeup products, an assortment of pretty colored tubes, he would guess were either for your lips or eyes.

“yeah, why? you want some?” you laughed, expecting a ‘no’ in return but got only silence. you looked back at him. soda had just shrugged exaggeratedly.

one thing let to another and you ended up perched on sodapop’s lap, his eyes closed as you decorated his lids with blue eyeshadow.

“soda—! don’t crinkle your eyes!” you exclaimed, your boyfriend simply chuckled and gently grasped your wrist. “‘s not my fault it tickles, babe.”

soda opens his eyes to look at you, pulling your palm to his lips for a soft kiss.

“you know, you just ruined the eyeshadow, right? your eyes are hooded so the shadow will get—“

“shh, i’m tryna be romantic ‘ere.”

“oh, PONYBOY!” you squealed, dragging out the ‘y’ in his name and running down the hallway already carrying your makeup bag.

you poke your head in through the doorway to find pony laying on his bed, nose buried in another one of his books. he glanced at you, already suspicious of the fact that the rest of your body isn’t visible.

“huh?” he questioned, his eyes flickering between the words of the book. “you wanna be the best boyfriend ever and do me a favor, pony?” you grinned as you dragged out the syllables in his name.

“what’re you doin’?” he inquired. you started to step slowly into view, your bag held behind your back. “i just need’a see somethin’ real quick.” he sat up a bit as you got closer to him and placed the book on the desk next to his bed, careful to mark the page he was on with a bookmark.

you finally bring your hands around to your front, unveiling the small makeup bag filled to the brim with products.

“oh, no.”

“oh, yes.”

“no! you ain’t touchin’ my face!”

and before he knows it, ponyboy has a face full of makeup on and you’re finishing it off with some sparkly highlighter on his nose.

you had a date with JOHNNY at the drive-in, planning to see one of elvis’ new movies.

you had done your makeup, using the multitude of products you had in your room, and you looked snatched. your hair was cute, whether greased up or not, it never failed to look effortlessly gorgeous, johnny always thought so.

he was already waiting at the drive-in, accompanied by dallas who unfortunately was “chaperoning” him for the night, probably just trying to keep a lookout for drunk broads.

when you had arrived though, boy, was johnny astonished. his eyes widened at just the sight of you, it was like you were a princess walking up to him in slow motion.

once you had caught up to him and dally, johnny couldn’t help but mutter, “y’look like one of those ladies from the magazines..”, he gawked at just the utter sight of you.

“thank you?” you giggled and gave a quick peck to his lips. “i’ll get us a coke!” you jogged over to the concessions area with a bunched up wad of money in your hand. johnny watched you walk away, mouth still parted a bit in shock.

dallas, being the shithead he is, rudely tapped johnny’s cheek, making him close his mouth. “you’ll catch flies, johnny.” he said, exhaling the smoke from his cigarette.

once you two had actually sat down, dally chatting up some girl a few feet away, johnny turns to you. “s’that a new lipgloss?”

“yeah, you like it?” you asked, blowing him an exaggerated air kiss after.

“tastes sweet.”

｡ﾟ•┈୨♡୧┈• ｡ﾟ

“c’mon, doll, it’s been like twenty minutes.”

“hold on, DALLY, i have to finish this wing!” you affirmed, your words altered with the way you opened your mouth so your skin would stretch, giving you the perfect opportunity with eyeliner and mascara. one struggle almost everybody goes through, is getting the other eyeliner wing to match the other.

“you’ve been at this for a while, just draw a line ‘n call it a night.” dallas insisted, he didn’t much like waiting, and he never understood why people took so much time just to do their makeup.

“no, you don’t understand. it has to be perfect.” you said, enunciating the ‘p’. you look at dallas in the reflection of the mirror and see him sigh in defeat and hollow his cheeks with another inhale of a cancer stick.

“you better not be smokin’ that thing in here, stinkin’ up my whole room.” you wrinkled your nose, the smell of cigarettes never leaves your room as long as dallas comes over.

“you do it too.”

“i smoke outside, not where it’ll penetrate a whole room full of cute things.” you rebutted.

“whatever you say, doll.”

｡ﾟ•┈୨♡୧┈• ｡ﾟ

“do i look like a pretty princess?” TWO-BIT asked as you applied blush on his cheeks. you and his kid sister giggled at the sight. two’s eyes covered with all sorts of bright pinks and yellows and blues, colors that his little sister suggested.

“yes keith, you look like a pretty princess.” you said, watching two’s nose scrunch at the brush tickling his cheeks.

“what next?” you asked to his sister, turning to her as she held a finger to her chin in thought. then, it was like a light bulb went off inside her head. she grinned at you, a catlike smile that you returned, one that made two-bit worried about what would come next.

“lipstick.” was all she said, and immediately she handed you a bright red lipstick. you let out a soft laugh as you looked at two-bit’s expression, cocking an eyebrow as usual.

“you ain’t doin’ what i think you’re doin’, right?” he asks, then you wiggle the tube of lipstick at him, getting it closer as he shifts away. he placed his hands up in defense, “baby—! c’mon, you wouldn’t do that to your wonderful lovely boyfriend, would you?”

as he tries to scurry off, you hook your leg around his waist and keep him in place while his little sister laughs hysterically in the background. you grip his cheeks so his lips could purse, giving you the perfect access to apply his lipstick.

he ends up looking like a scrapped lisa frank design and that lipstick ends up in kiss marks littering your face, accompanied by ‘eww’s’ in the back provided by two’s sister.

“shit! it burns!” STEVE yells, his lips a cherry red with irritation.

“why’d you put it on your lips?” you threw your arms up, representing a ‘what the hell?’.

“thought it was your lipstick thingies!”

“why would you put it on your lips in the first place, steve?” you laughed and rushed over to get a paper towel and a few ice cube. “i thought it’d taste good.” he muttered, his lips a comical plump as he glared at the tube, feeling silly how he didn’t read the white letters on it saying ‘duck plump’.

when you came back, you sat down next to steve, gently wiping off the gloss before he snatched the napkin and wiped it off aggressively himself, desperate to get it off.

you both looked at each other before he looked down at the ice cube. “wha’s ‘at supposed to do?” he asked. you stammered, “i don’t know you were in hysterics! ‘pleasee! oh please get it off! it burns—!’” you cut yourself off with a laugh, laying back on the bed.

“yeah, yeah. whatever..” he grumbles, throwing another glare at the lip plumping gloss that lay abandoned on your desk.

Darry Curtis -

Darry would be so caring towards you, oh my lord.

If you need something, you best believe he is going to get it for you, among many other things.

If you’re suffering with bad cramps, he will gladly lay with you and hold you for as long as you need him to.

If the boys are bugging you in any way, shape or form, he is telling them to lay off and keeping you as far away from them as possible. He knows how annoying they can be first hand and the last thing you need right now is them all up in your face.

He will come home from work during his breaks just to check on you and make sure you have everything you need; heat pad, blankets, snacks, entertainment.

Sodapop Curtis -

Much like his brother, Soda is super caring and sweet.

He will go out and buy you everything you could possibly need; chocolate, medicine, you name it, babe, he’s getting it for you.

Will take hot baths and showers with you after work.

This boy will cuddle with you all day if that was what you wanted, hell, he’d take the day off work just to spend time taking care of you.

If you’ve got cramps, he feels super guilty. He hates seeing you in pain and hates knowing that he can’t help you even more.

Strongly believes that kisses will “cure” you and will shower you with attention until you’re feeling slightly better.

Ponyboy Curtis -

Pony doesn’t know much about periods other than the fact that you can get pretty damn moody.

He tries his hardest to understand what you’re going through, but eventually he freaks out and has to ask Darry for help.

If you need him to get you something, he will go into the store with the full intention of buying only the items you requested only to panic and buy almost every single product he could find.

If you’ve got bad cramps, he’ll do his best to make you feel better. He’ll do whatever you need him to do but, in the end, he’ll just lay down and read to you until you fall asleep.

Johnny Cade -

Johnny is the sweetest.

He gets so concerned about you and hates seeing you in any sort of pain/discomfort.

If you’re sad, he’s sad.

You want him to get you something? Medicine, chocolate, blankets? No problem, sweetheart, just sit tight and he’ll get it in no time at all.

If you’ve particularly irritable, he tends to stay out of the way for a little while. He doesn't wanna upset you and he also doesn’t wanna get yelled at by you.

He’ll cuddle with you for ages. When I tell you he isn’t letting go until you do, I mean it.

If you’ve got bad cramps, he’ll lay with you and rub your stomach until they pass.

He’s also not opposed to running you a warm bath if that’s what helps you.

Dallas Winston -

When I tell you this boy knows nothing about periods, I mean it. His knowledge is very limited; he knows you get pretty moody and that’s about it.

He’ll try to stay out of your way the best he can because when you’re on your period you kind of scare him.

Once you snapped at him for being a pain in the ass and he never tried to bug you again. Instead, he went to find the gang and was like “damn, women can be scary sometimes, man.”

He definitely showers with you but for all the wrong reasons.

If your cramps are particularly bad he’ll get you blankets and will sit with you until they pass.

Either that or he’ll panic and call Darry. He does not know how to deal with this shit.

Is definitely the type of person to say “can’t you just hold it?”

Steve Randle -

He’ll either take you to work with him or take the day off so that you’re not alone.

He’ll let you sit in his lap whilst he rubs your back and presses soft kisses to your lips and forehead.

He’s actually so sweet to you.

Will gladly feed you chocolate cake (he might steal a few bites too).

Much like Soda, he has no problem taking hot showers with you if that’s what helps you to relax.

He will bring back whatever you want from the DX, just ask him and he’ll get it for you.

If your cramps are particularly bad, he’ll just hold you until they pass. His comforting skills aren’t the greatest but he tries his best and we love him for it <333

Two-Bit Mathews -

He tries to stay out of your way if you’re particularly irritable. He learnt the hard way not to bug you when you’re on your period and he vowed never to tease you again.

He’ll cuddle up with you on the couch and you two will just watch TV together.

Much like Steve, he has no problem feeding you chocolate cake, although he might end up eating the vast majority of it.

Will pepper your face with kisses, claiming that it’s the only cure to your discomfort.

If your cramps are bad, he’ll get you a heat pack and will do anything in his will to make you feel better. It doesn’t matter how ridiculous your requests may be, he will do it for you.

Dally doesn’t feel comfortable with hugging you in public, he absolutely DESPISES people who are cuddling and all that lovey dovey crap while there are people around. But he will only do it if you are some-what alone or no one’s lookin, And he’ll have his arm thrown over your shoulder, and say something like-

“Your perfume smells good.”

Johnny Cade:

Johnny has never had any physical touch with anyone, without it having to deal with violence. But when he gets comfortable with you he starts to give small gestures like holding hands and leaning his head on your shoulder. But again like the rest of the guys, he only does this when he’s alone with you at the lot and have his arms around behind you and let you talk about what ever was on your mind<3

“I’m still listening’, go on.”

Ponyboy Curtis:

I know what you’re thinking, “THIS BOY DOESNT EVEN KNOW WHAT CUDDLING IS-“ But that’s ok, because you teach him how to! Then eventually he would have you in front of him on the ground or the same couch and have his arms wrapped around your shoulders, while you read out loud a book that you both are reading<3

Ponyboy: “You skipped a sentence.”

Darry Curtis:

He might be tuff looking but trust me he’s huge on cuddling with you! He’s such a softie when you guys are cuddling and I’m not even kidding. He usually likes when you lean against him and your snuggled up into his shoulder<3

“You look pretty like this.”

Sodapop Curtis:

He’s such a teddy bear when you guys cuddle, you would be hugging him and resting your head on his chest and he would pet your hair down and give a small kiss every now and then!

Dallas tried so hard to hate you.

He tried SO hard.

But the way you were so sweet to him…even if he called you the meanest things.

It broke his heart that you would actually let him treat you like that.

It was just a front.

He can’t even count on his fingers, how many times he caught himself thinking about you. Staring at your beautiful face.

“What’s up, Dally?” You flashed your beautiful smile that made him fall so hard.

Your smile was only just one of many things about you that made him weak in the knees.

“None of your damn business.” He snapped back at you.

He just wish you understood why he was doing this.

He could see the hurt on your face.

Right through that pretty face, that he thought about.

Every. Day.

Was filled with hurt.

But you hid it with a smile and a fake laugh.

Dallas has had enough.

“Why don’t you ever tell me off?..I could say the meanest things to you and you would just fake your smile..why?”

You didn’t know what to say.

He scooted closer to you.

He grabbed your hand and pulled you into his chest.

“Dally?” He hummed in response, letting you know that he was listening.

ೃ༄ Be My Angel

ponyboy curtis dating hcs

warnings: probs ooc, not beta read, incredibly messy lolol

lets you borrow his books after he’s done reading them so you can give them a try. its his own subtle way of showing affection; theyre his pride and joy, and hes basically telling you he trusts you with everything when he gives you them.

draws you all the time. he has more than a few pages on his sketchbook dedicated to just your face, your different expressions, all of your emotions, and so on.

makes you paper butterflies and cranes during class sometimes; might also doodle on the margins of your notebook if you let him.

lots of study dates. he helps you prepare for any upcoming exams, and takes you out to unwind afterwards.

likes it when you watch his track meets, and also likes seeing you do any extracurriculars youre signed up for. hes your biggest fan, always telling you you did a good job and pressing sweet kisses to your cheek.

his love languages are quality time and words of affirmation. he compliments you a lot throughout the day, and goes out of his way to spend most of his free-time with you. he might even sneak out on school nights just to go to your house (or try to, at least. darry always catches him in the end.)

NOTES: how i look trying to conjure up my outsiders phase: 🧙‍♀️🪄 alakazam!

• I feel like Pony would be the type of guy to like going on picnics with you.

- But not near where you two are from. Chances are that you two will try and sneak to the socs’ side of town, where it’s nicer, to have your picnics because the neighborhood that you’re both from isn’t exactly date material.

• You have tried time and time again to get Ponyboy to quit smoking, but it’s not exactly easy for him since he’s been doing it for quite some time (that and he burns through packs quickly). He appreciates how patient you’ve been with him… he’s trying his best, okayyy?

• If you don’t have homework, you usually just leave with Ponyboy after school, so you can watch him train for track & field. Since you don’t want to run, you usually sit on the school’s grass to shout words of encouragement to him as he passes you.

- Who needs the cheer team when you’re here?

• As expected, Pony loves to watch the sunsets and sunrises with you. There’s just something about it that’s so peaceful… but since he knows how cold it’ll be, he tries to bring a blanket and/or a few jackets ahead of time, so you two aren’t freezing.

• Ponyboy is an avid reader and because he is, he likes to read to you, with your permission, of course. He even recommends all his favorite books to you (and vice versa)!

• Ever since the incident with Bob Sheldon and the other socs, Pony had his hair dyed. Surprised you when you first saw it, but it didn’t take you long to get used to it. After all, he does pull off the blond look.

- Pony has decided, at least for the moment, to keep his hair blond. And whenever he needs help with it, he knows just the person to call: you! Plus, he knows that you’ll make it fun.

• You two rarely fight over anything. If you are, it never lasts long or is about the same thing (*ahem* his smoking problem *ahem*).

• Pony is an absolute gentleman. He will do stuff like pull out a chair for you, lend you a jacket when you’re cold, hold the door for you, things like that.

- He’s a great listener too! Don’t ever feel bad for needing to vent or choosing him to be the shoulder you cry on.

• I feel like Ponyboy would try passing notes to you in class. It has a 50% chance of working, so why not try it?

• He’s not great at eye contact, if anything, you make him shy at times because of how tightly you have him wrapped around your finger. Don’t worry though! He’s trying to get better at it.

• Ponyboy tends to get jealous. If and when he does, he tries his best not to make a big scene. He’ll usually end up draping his arm over your shoulder to pull you close to him, just so the guy you’re talking to gets the hint that you’re already seeing somebody.

Your confession comes in a whisper at a horror movie drive-in, so quiet that PONYBOY barely even realizes you said it. He’s holding your hand because he thinks you’d be scared, but what’s actually scary are the words coming out of your mouth. “What?” He asks. He’s a little bit slow, but when you say it again, he’s dumbfounded. “Gosh, I love you too.” He can hardly believe this is real and happening to him. After a whole lot of talking, though, he invites you to get milkshakes with him when the movie is done with.

“I’ve been waiting for you to say that!” SODAPOP gasps, his hand tightening around yours. “I love you too.” Soda’s never been one to hide his affection, so it’s likely you knew his feelings before ever confessing so blatantly. He loves it though, the fact that you had the guts to tell him. He asks you to date him in the same moment, and it’s the best decision the two of you have ever made.

DARRY doesn’t hold hands. He just doesn’t- he’s never been one to be soft with things, with people, but you are his only exception. Everyone in his life can see it. So, when he’s breaking his own rules to hold your hand, he doesn’t expect the moment to get any softer. Until, of course, you say you love him. He looks at you in shock for a moment, slightly worried. “Are you okay?” When you laugh and say you are, and that you just had to tell him how you feel, his heart soars. He asks you on a proper date after that, the one thing he’s been too scared to do, even though Darry Curtis does not get scared.
