new pokémon fanart archive!

Hey guys! The point of this blog is to reblog as many pokémon fanarts as possible (my goal is to reblog them all, we'll see if that's possible haha) so they're all properly tagged and easily searchable here.

I'm just getting started so you might find some tags are still partially or totally empty, I hope you come along to see them grow!

If you have an art blog and you draw/gif/craft pokemon, send me a DM and let me know! Or you can submit your art if you want to :)

what you can search for:

by type of art:

fanart both digital and traditional

gifs from the games/anime and animation in general

merch fanmade - plushies, enamel pins, and other objects

3d model

by character

pokemon: just go to the search bar on the top part of the blog and search for your favorite pokemon! see pikachu, for example. regional variants are tagged like "alolan raichu", not "raichu", though they should show up on the search for "raichu".

human characters: same as pokemon, search them by their english name. for example: gladion. for professors you should search for "professor (name)", like "professor oak" and not just "oak". submas have their own tag for the both of them, but also individual tags for ingo and emmet.

original characters both human and pokemon

fakemon for fan made pokemon, and from there you can branch off to variants or fusions

betamon for beta pokemon (from the leaked betas, like the 1997 spaceworld gold/silver one, or the diamond/pearl one; or from official sources, like the latias+blaziken pokemon from the ruby/sapphire showcase). beta versions of pokemon that exist have their own tags, like "beta wooper" and not "wooper"

by game

just search for the game you're interested in. spin off sagas have only one tag (like mystery dungeon) and main series games that have two versions follow the most used order for them (like black and white).

Polished Crystal Review and First Playthrough

I did a catch'em all first playthrought. It was great!

Despite being still in development, this Romhack is great. Is Pokemon Crystal with so many quality of life enhancements it's not funny. There is tons of bonus content, later series game mechanics, anime cameos and enhanced difficulty boss battles.

There loads of bonus areas and extra trainers, largely solving the level curve problems of crystal at the expense of making the game slightly more linear. The spritework is incredible, with the new areas looking great and the in-team sprites and future generation move animations looking both great and like they belong. There are even custom shinies.

This is HGSS+ using the Crystal game engine, and it's great. I have unlocked the new game plus, and I intend to use it sometime.

Kyoko, my trust Sturdy Donphan who I meet as a level 2 Phanphy on Route 46. Sturdy works as a focus band, and with rollout and defense curl she was great early on and several early gyms need her help as my Chikorita starter was still even with the changes. Sturdy was great, as being able to ensure a knock off or earthquake was the key to several battles. She enabled me to beat the surprise level 80 Giovanni Mewtwo by heal spamming until it ran out of PP. I always wanted to use a Donphan in a playthrough of gen 2, and now I have.

Meet Sayaka, a Guts Ursaring and Sayakas partner, caught in dark cave as a level 2 Tediursa. She too was great early game, hitting hard with strong physical type moves and doing great damage. After falling behind she evolved and spent the entire game hitting hard for massive damage. While sadly a bit slow and rarely getting in multiple attacks, when she hit she hit hard. Flame Orb is an item you get prior to E4 in game, and while she only got Facade in Kanto her friendship powered return hit hard. Ursaring was another Gen 2 pokemon I wanted to use in a playthrough, and she did fine.

Originally Pearlshine, the egg Togepi with Serene Grace whose sing proved invaluable in catching mons and stunning bosses. After becoming the Johto Champion, I battled Cynthia and got a Shiny Togepi egg with Superluck, Aeroblast and Moonblast. Since regular Togekiss can't get Moonblast in this game, I swapped them and trained up Evanescence with an exp share. Both of them were great team mates, with Pearlshine being very bulky early on while Evanescence was far more offensive.

Hatched from daycare couple egg, was Pikablue the shiny blue Pichu who soon evolved into a blue Pikachu. Equipped with a Light Ball, I decided to evolve Pikablue into an Alolan Riachu as beating gen two with an Alolan Riachu seemed sweet. This took till after beating the elite four to find the item, but it was worth it. Rename Pancake, now with Motor Drive as the hidden ability and holding a focus sash, Pancakes was my fastest team member and could on rare occasion gets off a nasty plot to do massive damage.

Mastema, the Snow Cloak Glaceon was the Eevee I got from Bill. Needing to level up in Ice Path he spent a long time unevolved and doing poorly in my team. Upon evolving though he crushed Team Rocket and became a strong special attacker who spammed high power special moves. Using a Glaceon in Johto was fun, and with a choice band to actually outspeed late game opponents he was great.

Last, but certainly not least is Suicune, a pokemon I always wanted to use in a playthrought and my originally planned team member. She originally held an assault vest which worked well with Pressure, and was an extremely specially bulky team member whose final move was mirror coat. And then I beat Sabrina, got Calm Mind and she became my Ace Mon whose ability to set calm minds sweep is the only reason I was able to beat Red and Green, and was a key part of my rematch with Lance.

About me and my blog!

Hello anyone that comes on to this page! Let me introduce myself first so you can get an idea what my connection to this obscure franchise is and what I'm planing to do here :)

Who am I?

I won't share my name since I'd like to keep my identity private, but I can tell a bit about myself and my history with pokemon. Sadly I am too young to have experienced the games when they first came out, but I recently started developing a fascination with old games like these and wondering what could've been if things would've turned out just a bit differently. I found pokemon through watching videos on retro games, specifically from the late 90s.

Why did this franchise specifically out of all the other retro games pique my interest though? To be very honest.. I'm just a fan of little creatures and pokemon has over 250 monsters to choose from, ranging from cute to big and intimidating kaiju. But I'm getting off topic now.

What am I doing here?

I scoured the internet for any info I could find on this franchise, but it's surprisingly hard to find anything, even though the games are over 20 years old at this point. But that also may be related to the issues regarding the games emulation and data mining.

My goal with this blog is to archive any info I can find on the games so it's more easily accessible to people. Also I'd love to find like-minded individuals who share my love for these long forgotten games and help others gain the same appreciation as I do :)

So go on this journey with me and help me find and collect info on these games!!

TOP 10 ANIMANGA ON AO3 BASED ON NUMBER OF FANWORKS (2009-2022)

To make this bar chart race, all series titles in the Anime & Manga Category on December 4 (or the closest date to it) of every year were copy-pasted from Wayback Machine to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, and then inputted to Flourish to turn into a bar chart race. November 2022 is basedon November 11, 2022 data.

Miraculous Ladybug was actually in the top 10 Anime & Manga from 2016-2021, before it was finally removed from the Animanga category in 2022. I'm excluding it in the rankings since it shouldn't have been in the animanga category in the first place.

CLAMP - Works was actually in 9th place in December 2013, but too many series were moving up and down the rankings at the time so it was impossible to catch a glimpse of it.

Thanks for understanding and hopefully I didn’t mess up anywhere! 🙏

ETA: Locked fanworks aren't included in the count because Wayback Machine can’t view those, only Ao3 users can.

Pokemon Violet Team Archive 2

My second playthrough. I foolishly did Kitakami as soon as possible, using levels of my opponents to know when to change regions, and got the exp charm way to early. I then waited for Blueberry Academy and the epilogue before finishing up.

My starter Pokemon was the mystery gift Mew. Very strong early on and great throughout the game, her balanced stats and great move pool was great.

My second Pokemon Doflamigo, a high level Shiny Flamigo I found while scouting out the map and luckily caught in a quick ball. By substituting in a wild low level one for the early game, I found out first hand why speed runners love it as it is busted early game, only really falling off in Blueberry Academy where double battles really didn’t do its frailty any favors.

My third Pokemon, a Shinx Toxtricity I found early on a Toxel. In contrast to Doflamigo, Toxel is as terrible early on and did poorly until evolving at level 30 where it became a fast powerful attacker. Has a normal Terra to use Boomburst, which in the post fame was far more often used to evade super effective hits. Technicia was frail but hit hard, and I was extremely lucky to get two shinies early on for my in game team.

My fourth mon, a Flapple caught as an Applin early on in Kitakami and evolved post 30, he was similar to Technicia this way. He hit hard and relatively fast, although by Blueberry he was being outspeed and OHKOer by a lot of Pokemon. He was high risk high reward, as being able to set up a Dragon Dance and get berry boosts twice could go very well or he could be OHKOed and was walled by ice types. His terra poison was used defensively, and while thematic it was a suboptimal typing.

My fifth pokemon, Earthbound the Titan Orthworm caught at expect level time. I picked him as I wanted the largest possible Orthworm, having been impressed by the Titan in my first playthroug He was bulky, and well served by a quick claw and body press. He was a great switch in to protect Technicia with Earth Eater, and Iron Tail was used far more frequently that expected. He was given Terra Earth for thematic reasons, but rarely used it. He was solid, dependable and useful all game.

Landlubber, a Cetitan caught at the usual time one would encounter a Cettodle (lvl 36), and given Terra Water for thematic reasons. He was reasonably fast, decently bulky and hit hard. He was a good lure for fire types, by going water and hitting them with liquidation. He was a solid choice and basically a physical counterpart to my starter with shared ice-ground coverage, making them both great dragonslayers.
