Very interesting to me that a certain subset of the BES fandom's favourite iterations of Mizu and Akemi are seemingly rooted in the facades they have projected towards the world, and are not accurate representations of their true selves.
And I see this is especially the case with Mizu, where fanon likes to paint her as this dominant, hyper-masculine, smirking Cool GuyTM who's going to give you her strap. And this idea of Mizu is often based on the image of her wearing her glasses, and optionally, with her cloak and big, wide-brimmed kasa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what's interesting about this, to me, is that fanon is seemingly falling for her deliberate disguise. Because the glasses (with the optional combination of cloak and hat) represent Mizu's suppression of her true self. She is playing a role.
Tumblr media
Take this scene of Mizu in the brothel in Episode 4 for example. Here, not only is Mizu wearing her glasses to symbolise the mask she is wearing, but she is purposely acting like some suave and cocky gentleman, intimidating, calm, in control. Her voice is even deeper than usual, like what we hear in her first scene while facing off with Hachiman the Flesh-Trader in Episode 1.
This act that Mizu puts on is an embodiment of masculine showboating, which is highly effective against weak and insecure men like Hachi, but also against women like those who tried to seduce her at the Shindo House.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that brings me to how Mizu's mask is actually a direct parallel to Akemi's mask in this very same scene.
Tumblr media
Here, Akemi is also putting up an act, playing up her naivety and demure girlishness, using her high-pitched lilted voice, complimenting Mizu and trying to make small talk, all so she can seduce and lure Mizu in to drink the drugged cup of sake.
So what I find so interesting and funny about this scene, characters within it, and the subsequent fandom interpretations of both, is that everyone seems to literally be falling for the mask that Mizu and Akemi are putting up to conceal their identities, guard themselves from the world, and get what they want.
It's also a little frustrating because the fanon seems to twist what actually makes Mizu and Akemi's dynamic so interesting by flattening it completely. Because both here and throughout the story, Mizu and Akemi's entire relationship and treatment of each other is solely built off of masks, assumptions, and misconceptions.
Akemi believes Mizu is a selfish, cocky male samurai who destroyed her ex-fiance's career and life, and who abandoned her to let her get dragged away by her father's guards and forcibly married off to a man she didn't know. on the other hand, Mizu believes Akemi is bratty, naive princess who constantly needs saving and who can't make her own decisions.
These misconceptions are even evident in the framing of their first impressions of each other, both of which unfold in these slow-motion POV shots.
Mizu's first impression of Akemi is that of a beautiful, untouchable princess in a cage. Swirling string music in the background.
Tumblr media
Akemi's first impression of Mizu is of a mysterious, stoic "demon" samurai who stole her fiance's scarf. Tense music and the sound of ocean waves in the background.
Tumblr media
And then, going back to that scene of them together in Episode 4, both Mizu and Akemi continue to fool each other and hold these assumptions of each other, and they both feed into it, as both are purposely acting within the suppressive roles society binds them to in order to achieve their goals within the means they are allowed (Akemi playing the part of a subservient woman; Mizu playing the part of a dominant man).
Tumblr media
But then, for once in both their lives, neither of their usual tactics work.
Akemi is trying to use flattery and seduction on Mizu, but Mizu sees right through it, knowing that Akemi is just trying to manipulate and harm her. Rather than give in to Akemi's tactics, Mizu plays with Akemi's emotions by alluding to Taigen's death, before pinning her down, and then when she starts crying, Mizu just rolls her eyes and tells her to shut up.
Tumblr media
On the opposite end, when Mizu tries to use brute force and intimidation, Akemi also sees right through it, not falling for it, and instead says this:
"Under your mask, you're not the killer you pretend to be."
Tumblr media
Nonetheless, despite the fact that they see a little bit through each other's masks, they both still hold their presumptions of each other until the very end of the season, with Akemi seeing Mizu as an obnoxious samurai swooping in to save the day, and Mizu seeing Akemi as a damsel in distress.
And what I find a bit irksome is that the fandom also resorts to flattening them to these tropes as well.
Because Mizu is not some cool, smooth-talking samurai with a big dick sword as Akemi (and the fandom) might believe. All of that is the facade she puts up and nothing more. In reality, Mizu is an angry, confused and lonely child, and a masterful artist, who is struggling against her own self-hatred. Master Eiji, her father figure who knows her best, knows this.
Tumblr media
And Akemi, on the other hand, is not some girly, sweet, vain and spoiled princess as Mizu might believe. Instead she has never cared for frivolous things like fashion, love or looks, instead favouring poetry and strategy games instead, and has always only cared about her own independence. Seki, her father figure who knows her best, knows this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But neither is she some authoritative dominatrix, though this is part of her new persona that she is trying to project to get what she wants. Because while Akemi is willful, outspoken, intelligent and authoritative, she can still be naive! She is still often unsure and needs to have her hand held through things, as she is still learning and growing into her full potential. Her new parental/guardian figure, Madame Kaji, knows this as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So with all that being said, now that we know that Mizu and Akemi are essentially wearing masks and putting up fronts throughout the show, what would a representation of Mizu's and Akemi's true selves actually look like? Easy. It's in their hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This shot on the left is the only time we see Mizu with her hair completely down. In this scene, she's being berated by Mama, and her guard is completely down, she has no weapon, and is no longer wearing any mask, as this is after she showed Mikio "all of herself" and tried to take off the mask of a subservient housewife. Thus, here, she is sad, vulnerable, and feeling small (emphasised further by the framing of the scene). This is a perfect encapsulation of what Mizu is on the inside, underneath all the layers of revenge-obsession and the walls she's put around herself.
In contrast, the only time we Akemi with her hair fully down, she is completely alone in the bath, and this scene takes place after being scorned by her father and left weeping at his feet. But despite all that, Akemi is headstrong, determined, taking the reigns of her life as she makes the choice to run away, but even that choice is reflective of her youthful naivety. She even gets scolded by Seki shortly after this in the next scene, because though she wants to be independent, she still hasn't completely learned to be. Not yet. Regardless, her decisiveness and moment of self-empowerment is emphasised by the framing of the scene, where her face takes up the majority of the shot, and she stares seriously into the middle distance.
To conclude, I wish popular fanon would stop mischaracterising these two, and flattening them into tropes and stereotypes (ie. masculine badass swordsman Mizu and feminine alluring queen but also girly swooning damsel Akemi), all of which just seems... reductive. It also irks me when Akemi is merely upheld as a love interest and romantic device for Mizu and nothing more, when she is literally Mizu's narrative foil (takes far more narrative precedence over romantic interest) and the deuteragonist of this show. She is her own person. That is literally the theme of her entire character and arc.

❦Reactions To You Wanting To Draw Them❦
❦Summary: Their beautiful/handsome S/O wants to capture their beauty in pencil
❦Includes: Arthur, Sadie, Javier, Kieran
❦Warnings: none ❦Notes:I know it's very few characters but I tried to write as much as I could. If you want other characters feel free to request it
Tumblr media
❦Arthur Morgan❦
Tumblr media
"Wait seriously?" It's almost like he doesn't believe you when you ask for the consent to capture his pure bliss and beauty while he fishes. The boat you both sat in rocking very lightly like a mother rocking her newborn's cradle, the fishing rod is in his steady calloused hands while you pinch the pencil between your fingers, etching the features of his jawline on the paper. If Arthur had been so kind before to draw you, why couldn't you return the favour? Plus you never really cared for fishing all that much, you just liked being in the same space as Arthur, breathing the same air, and sharing the perfect silence with a unstressed breeze between you two. And maybe you treated this as an excuse to look at Arthur a little closer than you usually would, admire the finer details of his roughened face. The small scar on his cheek that you never truly figured out the origins of, the small strand of hair that without fault would always end up against his forehead, the bags on his eyes that if they were on anyone else that you wouldn't find too appealing but just because it's on Arthur, your Arthur, its one of those imperfections that turns perfect. His jaw is practically on the floor once you reveal the drawing to him, the details that you've captured in his face that he had only seen as flaws. He wasn't used to this, he was used to capturing the beauty around him, hiding the ugliness away from his drawings, the ugliness which he labelled as himself. Even with a beauty like you beside him he could never find himself all that appealing to look at, let alone put in the work in drawing. He felt flattered thought hat you would take the time to draw him, he knows he's returned the favour more than enough times. Enjoying to draw you when you're grooming your horse, singing at the campfire with Javier, looking so peaceful sleeping beside him, any chance he would take to capture your beauty. And Arthur wouldn't ever admit it, maybe he was too proud or didn't want to look too soft to the others but he would take the drawing you made of him everywhere. That little reminder that even when he thought he was the worst man alive that there was someone back at camp who saw him as perfect
❦Sadie Adler❦
Tumblr media
"Draw me? Well if it makes you happy I guess?" She'll pretend that she doesn't care, that it means nothing when you approach her all shy, your leather back journal and pencil in your hands while she's dragging her gun oil soaked rag over her pistol's barrel. Her eyes glancing at you as if its some kind of joke but when she sees your serious, she just shrugs it off and keeps working. She comments that she isn't gonna just sit still for an hour while you draw, she's a busy woman who has work to get done and you understand that. Hoping to get her drawing done quick but with the details you keep getting glimpses of when you pull your vision from the paper to her face make you realise how much more work you'll have to do to get it perfect. But inside, what you don't see, is that Sadie really does care at the idea of her drawing, especially from you. She's always been a secret fan of your little hobby, it was nice to have something that brought you such comfort and calm, she really wished she had something like that before she met you but now she had you, even if she tried to look all tough, she was truly as lovesick as she used to be with her now deceased husband that she is with you. When your eyes aren't on her, she's fixing her hair or clothes, just making sure that you get the best details of her. She doesn't want to look like an outlaw, she wants to look like a normal woman even if she is far from that now. She wants to look normal for you, the contrast between you two was so obvious to her. She could shoot twelve men and not even miss a wink of sleep while you couldn't even shoot a squirrel when you went out hunting with her. She enjoyed your kind heart though, it made her not feel so monsterous for what she's done and all the people she's hurt. She's very patient truly when you need more time to finish, even if before she told you that she wasn't gonna sit still. She knows how much you took pride and patience in your work, she wanted to make sure that your needs were met. And it paid off because when she finally does see the drawing, her heart has swelled holding the leather back journal as she admires your work. She had truly forgotten what she had looked like when she wasn't covered in dirt and blood, the inner beauty of her that you captured physically on the drawing, she just loved you a little more.
❦Javier Escuella❦
Tumblr media
"Are you interested in a more intimate portrait?" Don't get me wrong, he is very flattered that you want to sketch him but he has to tease, giving you that sly smirk on his lips while he leans against the tree, his guitar in his lap and you sitting across from him. He sits confidently, trying to get a peak at your work every now and again, making comments at you that almost distract you from your drawing with how much they make your heart flutter. He gives you ideas for the drawing, like how he could look good on his horse, or fighting Micah, anything that makes him look like your personal hero that you already know he is. When you sometimes look up at him, he sends you a quick wink, chuckled at your flustered cheeks and quick change of focus back onto your paper. As much as Javier is teasing and trying to distract you from the work, he has full intentions of sitting right under the tree in the scorching heat until your work would be done to perfection. If you were more than happy to sit with him while he lazily strummed on his guitar, he could be considerate enough to enjoy his time with you while you work on your own hobby. He isn't exactly patient so eventually he leaves his spot, scooting over to you as he rests his chin on your shoulder, looking at your work. His eyes are glued to your fingers which pinch your pencil and move in little scritch scratches on the finer details of his mustache. Careful to keep the strings of his guitar as straight as possible even if there's a little wonky bit every here and now. He thinks it's adorable how focused you are, your eyes glued to the sheet and your tongue sticking out of your mouth every now and again as you concentrate on the proper shading, rubbing your thumb against the paper to smudge the ink
❦Kieran Duffy❦
Tumblr media
"I'm nothing special" It makes you frown to hear him say such a thing, turning his back to you when he continues on his chores, not wanting to be a burden to you. Not that he ever was, Kieran was the perfect medium between fantasy and realism. He was perfect to you, since the day you met him in Colter. Sneaking him food when everyone was asleep, on the coldest days when the wind blew harder with every second that burned your exposed skin but it had been worth it to see the small smile on his face when he knew at least there was someone who cared for him. Not many people had ever cared for him, his ma died young and his pa not long after her. He had been alone, every time he met one they would disappear or die around him. Possibly that's why it took so long for him to warm up to you, his fear that the next good thing in his life was gonna disappear. But you refused to take his no or fear for an answer, proving him time and time again that you didn't plan to go anywhere. Even if he would push and push you away, you held on like a tick on a dog, of course a bit more benefitial than a tick for a dog. And maybe it takes a little bit of forcing to get him to just sit down, relax and let you show him that he is a lot more perfect than he thinks so. He's stiff, constantly trying to find an excuse to escape your eyes on him as you concentrate on capturing his finer details. He's fixing his hat to hide his face until you rip the hat away from him, practically begging him to just let you do this and show him in your own eyes, your vision of how perfect the squirmy shy and anxious boy sitting under the tree with you truly is. Once you're finished he's so happy that he has something made by someone only for him, something that he is able to cherish. Even if he will still have his self esteem issues, he will always have his physical representation of the love from his little artist.

Undertaker wants to Court you! ~(Headcanons)~
Tumblr media
Can’t wait for the public school arc who’s with me?!
this dude is so silly 🗿 enjoy some hcs of this ridiculous little man
Undertaker is funny. He uses that to his advantage when courting. Well, it actually depends on what type of humor you have- most of his are usually those jokes that are kinda funny but at the same time your like ‘That’s outta pocket! 🤦‍♀️😑😂’ yk?
he always wants to hear jokes. He asks you randomly and no matter what type he laughs at them. Rude humor? Hilarious! Dad jokes? That one really tickled his fancy! 😂 why did the chicken cross the road?? To get to the other side? 🤣🤣💥
now usually I feel he has a specific sense of humor but with you everything’s just kinda funny. It’s that moment when your with someone who you can laugh at the most unfunniest stuff ever and still be cackling at it anyway 😭💕
he’s always telling them as well. Might I say, at the worst times 😏 you just watched someone run over a stray animal? Oh he’s got a joke for that hear him out- LIKE BRO 😭⁉️
HES THE TYPE OF GUY WHO MAKE YOU LAUGH BEFORE EVEN TELLING YOU THE JOKE BECAUSE YOU KNOW ITS GONNA BE STUPID 👍
Let’s also talk about hiiiis…! weird side! (I’m saying ‘side’ like he’s isn’t always weird..) This is pretty much him just being a creep? Ish? Like that scene where he was in the barrel licking salt…🤨 or how he’s always in coffins (which tbh seems more normal for a grim reaper but still..) either way this dudes’ real weird and he doesn’t tone it down, even around you despite the fact that it may or may not (you decide) push you away
He’s a very mysterious dude, so how ever you met him I guarantee it was eerie and somewhat strange. Therefore you were likely intrigued by him, so when you went on your first date it was, well, very interesting! There’s so many layers to unravel with this guy! Ngl even now you’ve only semi unraveled this incomprehensible man but at the least you do learn more as you get to know him :P
his past is….complicated is an understatement- gimme a new word.
literally no one but him knows his full past all the way up to this very day. Looks like no one has stuck around long enough! Since you will I guess you’ll be the first to figure it out! ;)
now I’ll say this, he won’t sit down and just tell you everything, no. That won’t be any fun! 😄 you’ll have to have the intelligent to sit down and decode it piece by piece with the tidbits of information he gives you randomly. Yes! It’s going to be comical seeing you try and put this whole thing-a-ba-jig together! (^_−)−☆ 🤣
his nonjudgmental yet opinionated personality is scary if you don’t like folk who come off too strong. Or if your sensitive- 😄 he’s a ‘tell-it-like-it-is-and-I-don’t-give-a-ship’ type of guy. Buuuut! If your similar to him in that sense you’ll probably understand him a lot more. Him being nonjudgemental is perfect for peeps of all types so that’s a plus!! 💗
ranting about his fascination with humans during your dates comes with the package! ☝️He just does, it’s always one of his topics, and ngl it’s nothing boring either, he’s got quite a few stories to tell with even more jokes in between, which is sure to make for a lovely date <3 plus at some point all species in black butler experienced being a human, and idk about y’all but the study of human nature, psychology and how the brain works is a very interesting thing for me! I’d definitely be able to keep a conversation like that up for some time, me personally.
He puts up a front of a funny weird guy when there’s more to him if you read between the lines. Which, don’t get me wrong that certainly is a part of the real him, he just makes sure to highlight it so you don’t look at the rest 😃👌
he’s a real creepy fellow..even towards you 😭 (on purpose) and whether he’s trying to court you or not there’s no escaping it- if it starts to push you away he’ll find a way to incorporate laughter into it to make it more appealing, but no, he won’t change his ways 😭
WHY DOESN’T HE WASH HIS HAIRRRR
(yes it’s canon 😞)
you force him to wash his hair 😘💋 pls he needs it. or at least do it with him so it’s more fun. It’ll probably be easier to convince him that way
Time to talk about his work as a grim reaper!!! :3 (retired anyway) if you are reaper you get to follow each other around doing tasks! human? You both go your separate ways to work, whatever that may be. A demon? The same as a human really! Just this time you might have a contract with somebody. Buttttt!! A perk of all three is getting to work in the funeral parlor with him ;3 it’s a good disguise if your a demon/reaper and also some good quality time for you and your reaper 😘 (i mean, I hope you don’t mind morbid stuff cuz he’s a mortician after all 😅)
his little Russian roulette with the phantomhives 🕺 (LOL) no seriously I have no clue what type of relationship he has with them besides the fact that he serves them for the price of top notch laughter 🧑‍🍳💋 but you might! I’d say he’s more willing to let you in then anyone if he’s trying to court you! That obviously means he wants to trust you with his heart! So yeah! You likely know a thing or two—more about Ciel than Vincent but any info will do at this point 😭 it’s a start right? 🤷‍♀️
whenever Ciel comes over you get to witness him or Sebastian try to make undertaker laugh, it’s not like they can kick you out, you work there! Perks 😏 You can pretty much tell the one time Ciel made him laugh himself it was just a whole bunch of tomfoolery 😂 (why did it take so long⁉️😭) Sebastian is also able to make undertaker laugh really hard immediately so I wonder what he does 🤪 guess you’ll get to see! 😋
undertaker opening up to you is a process that requires patience. And don’t be pushy!! I mean this for your sake, by the way. You’ll drive yourself crazy since you’ll never get an answer that’s not riddles or straight up jokes. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
yeah overall his way of courting is really strange but when it comes to making things official he’s poetically blunt. The type of blunt where you have to process for a second like ‘wait what does that mean- oh. OH-’
Anyway I’m gonna talk about the actual dates now cuz I’ve pretty much just been mentioning the madness that comes with it this entire time :3 and yes as I said that’s a way of courting to him. He’s weird and blunt but doesn’t wanna do things the traditional way. So getting you involved in his antics is his way of saying ‘hey i like ya and I want ya to stick around’. And jokes. HAHAHAH 😂
dates with undertaker normally consists of tea, jokes, human psychology and gossip 🗿 ever since I saw ciel in wonderland I couldn’t get over the fact that undertaker was at a tea party and now I headcanons him to like tea LOLOLOL! I mean I know that’s how the plot goes in the actual slice movie and he was just playing the role of the character but, think about it—don’t it kinda fit???? Like?? Okok Hear me out hear me out- imagine sipping on some tea with Undertaker and gossiping on the latest drama from the underworld, ‘I heard a rare case is happening where blah blah blah *giggle* *giggle* chatter chatter..’ ETC! like idk how to explain it but do you see the vision???
I can also see him doing that dramatic anime thing where they sip they’re drink majestically then say something intelligent sounding (☝️🤓) (about psychology, for him) as the wind blows 😂😂 YK? LOLL even worse if your in a outside background and his eyes shows (cuz the character who never shows they’re eyes always show them when they get serious 🤣)
i love how shameless this guy is
why don’t we know this guys’ real name⁉️ Can’t even give him a nickname because ‘undertaker’ isn’t nickname material!! What am I supposed to call him???? Taker’ ⁉️😭🗿
ENJOY @doudouma HERE’S YOUR SURPRISE~ 🤗

im sooo smart i couldnt find the blank template but i have now but its fine . classic deviantart meme font.
explaining my self under the cut (EGGHEAD SPOILERS INCLUDED)
Favorite character: Franky, Robin and Usopp. Franky is my favorite but Robin and Usopp are the best characters. For Franky it's mostly that I like weird guys in hawaiin shirts and I also like inventor/engineer characters and he's both which is not fair to my psyche. And a lot of the shit he makes is so silly all those extra vehicles in the sunny all have to be cartoon animal themed and that's so cute. Silly guy making his silly machines, aww aww. I like Robin because she's a little weird a little offputting. Wish they went way further with that but I still enjoy that element of her character. And that she's the designated smart one but not in a killjoy way, and it's so sweet seeing her find happiness over time. I like that Usopp is the straight man or everyman type guy of the crew, and how most times the thing he chooses to do is the most "yeah i would have done that in this situation". I like that at no point he suddenly overnight becomes some brave boy and is a shounen anime badass now, but instead he's anxious about everything but pulls through regardless. He could have quit back in water 7 but he didn't !! New world scary as hell but he's still here having not given up or died !! There's something i really appreciate about having a character who isn't a badass or anything like that succeed too because its harder for him. And I lovee a good usopp fight, his fighting style is so fun and the usopp vs perona fight is one of my favorite of the whole series. I think it's fun that he was able to work around his fear of close combat by getting experimental. And of course the whole thing with how they make a point in Enies that Usopp doesn't have to be insanely capable and competant to have value and have his friends love him and i think that's nice. Everybody's valued on the crew even if their unique skills are more "niche" or whatever. :] .
Liked by everyone but me: Sabo. I think I would have liked him a lot more if he wasn't introduced immediately after Ace died as Luffy's secret brother he also has (anime adaptation is way worse for this because they can't even hide that Sabo didn't die !! It's so obvious !!) I know they have a whole passing the torch thing going on and the fire fruit thing is very cute but i feel it kind of takes away from the impact of ace dying to give luffy a different fire brother yknow ? either way though, he has the personality of a slice of white bread like i really dont find him endearing at all, all i get out of him is he's kind of fun to draw i like pulling a brightheart warrior cats fan design on him. as far as i can tell most OP fandom people generally like him i never see sabo slander LOL but that's just me
Didn't like at first: Orochi. Choosing him more out of what I felt was appropriate given some characters i.e. franky are clearly supposed to start off on a bad note then be likable later. Orochi never gets redeemed or even becomes particularly silly and charming in the ways many other villains do. Him being an over the top piece of shit who was also scared of everything then had beef with Kaido just appealed to me idk lol plus all the stuff with how he's doing all this out of some kind of paranoia/trauma response and like yeah fuck sure i'll take that some kind of a reason over nothing at all. he's a little like arlong if arlong was like really really lame. i think it's funny he fake dies like twice + his actual(?) death scene is honestly pretty badass that was a good ass scene. one of my more favorite villains tbh and he pleasantly surprised me because i really assumed he was just going to be another comically evil annoying lame guy in a different coat of paint. think again it's annoying lame guy but a little better.
Would like to know more about: Crocodile, Pudding, Kiwi, and Mozu. Honestly there's like 27 characters I could put here. Crocodile stands out to me because of the implied trans thing mostly but regardless, I am curious about his relationship with Robin and his run in with Whitebeard and the thing with going out of his way to stick his neck out for Luffy in Marineford. <- that was probably just Crocodile being grateful luffy busted him out of impel down and not wanting to say it, but i like to think there's some kind of "luffy reminds crocodile of himself when he was younger" type deal because yea croc wanted to be pirate king before whitebeard shat all over him, yeah? yeah i wanna know this guy's deal. and yeah what were the circumstances of him and Iva's initial meeting? Out of everyone I chose he's probably the mostly likely to get some kind of detailed backstory and such. I assume Pudding is probably going to be very relevant eventually what with the opening of the third eye or whatever the fuck. Excited as the prospect of more Pudding, really hope we do not get another hancock situation where her entire character devolves into being really obsessed with a guy. Low expectations for this one I just hope she gets things to do that uh . don't suck lol. i really like her a lot. I think I kind of already explained Kiwi & Mozu yeah, in general more of anything on Franky Family would be nice. I know they're not important like Croc + Pudding but I hope they at least get some silly mini story shit. Filler ep where Franky reminisces on franky family . i will take antyhing.
Least favorite character: Orlumbus. don't like the columbus cameo. that's it, this one isn't deep, the fact he's a character at all is just dumb to me. i do rank him lower than villains or intentionally annoying charatcers because at least characters like Spamdam you're clearly supposed to want him dead so he's doing his job as a character.
Like the design, dislike the character: Zeo. Wasn't huge on the new fishman pirates in general. Would have to reread Fishman Island to elaborate better. Zeo's design is badass though.
Like the character, dislike the design: Usopp. Looks like a caricature
Same personality: Usopp and Pudding. Only 2 I could think of that have made me think yeah, they're just like me for real on a regular basis.
Favorite ship: Going Merry. I love that the Merry is just the silly little boat that could held together by duck tape and how comically smaller she is compared to marine ships, really bringing together this idea that the straw hats are just some scrappy weirdos who have no business being alive this long- Oh. Oh that kind of ship. Okay. Frobin is like the most . Sounds like a pairing that would actually happen, makes sense for how I understand these characters to be, etc. I'm not in the camp of believing they're end game or canonically secretly in love, you just don't have to like . Conveniently forget things about either character to force it into making some kind of sense. More importantly though, I think it's fun how they're counterparts to each other. Robin is history/nature themed, Franky is futuristic/technology themed, but both are connected through the pluton thing. They're both "keys to the ancient weapon" but instead of being destructive evil characters they're more interested in building the other up. Something like that. And it's a weird girl + silly guy dynamic and I like these kinds of "met you in the worst situation but we made it out together and are now both enjoying ourselves" relationships. If I was spamdam bringing robin and franky together for my evil scheme only for them to not only both escape but end up on the same crew and become very close I would have to quit my job out of embarrassment.
Least favorite ship:Crocodile x Buggy.I don't care for most hate love type dynamics anyways but particularly don't enjoy this one because seeing Buggy in this toxic yaoi with my boss type situation doesn't appeal to me at all. (Obviously not the worst OP pairing in the world, just as far as pairings I actually see with my eyes every now and again I don't really care for this one)
Would befriend irl: Kokoro. I just like her. I would listen to her talk for a long time about whatever the hell.
Would not befriend irl: Sanji. I mean like more than half of all OP characters are people i would not stand but I have a dunking on Sanji quota to achieve.

Others have already been furrying the Raincode characters and doing a phenomenal job, but when I would peruse Danganrompa fanart I really liked seeing different and wildly varying interpretations for the characters' animal choices and now it is my turn, my GOD GIVEN DUTY TO PROVIDE IN THE GENISIS OF THE RAINCODE FANDOM, FOR THE HONOR OF THOSE WHO HAVE COME BEFORE ME.
For all of them I used their pose from the artbook renders. I'll say it's to keep them recognizable but that is actually a lie I'm just lazy.
Secretary Bird Halara:
Halara I did first and they were the one I was most jazzed to do because I love them dearly. I made them a secretary bird and I think it's a PERFECT fit. Ahem allow me to rattle off. Secretary birds are birds, so doomed by the narrative to have to stay away from cats, they are predatory birds and of course Halara would be at the top of the food chain. Speaking of predetory birds, secretary birds are known for their ability TO KICK VENOUMOUS SNAKES TO DEATH, AND THATS JUST TOO GOOD A FIT. They also have plumage that I could easily shape into Halara's kinda smooth swoopy hairstyle, and face markings that could be sort of representative of their glasses! I think the drawing for them is probably the weakest out of the group just because as I went along I improved and started to translate the human designs in less one to one ways, plus the pose Halara has in the artbook doesn't fit perfectly to the really big wing hand things. I still enjoyed making it because H A L A R A N I G H T M A R E but I'm honestly kinda sad at how lackluster it is compared to Fubuki and Viva who got the most interesting details and texture work. NEVER DO YOUR FAVORITE FIRST IT'S A TRAP.
Guinea Pig Desuhiko:
With Desuhiko I was going back and fourth between a few rodents, I just think he kinda looks like one and already had those pikachu cheeks. My first scetch made him a hamster, and while it DID look like him, it felt a little too... Indistinct. Desuhiko's probably my favorite design in the cast just because he looks so distinctive and has a short stocky bodytype I really really love and makes my character designer brain happy, so I swapped hamster for guinea pig. While the guinea pig face doesn't look like him quite as much as the hamster, they are very interesting and distinctive looking which I loved a lot more even with a bit of accuracy sacrificed if that makes sense. Also there are Guinea pigs with spikey wild fur that make it so I could just kinda give him his actual hair and still have it make sense. Guinea pigs are also the perfect size and shape to be thrown like a large softball and out of all the Master Detectives Desuhiko looks like he'd be the most sadisfying to chuck across a room.
Fish Fubuki:
Fubuki was really hard just because it's difficult to anthropomorphize a fish in the same way as a mammal or a avian cause of their structure. She might look a biitttt more like a fantasy creature inspired by a fish than just a fish but she's charming enough I don't completely mind. I got some SOLID advice and looked at some Splatoon NPCs characteristics to try and make her more appealing. So why fish? I got it as a suggestion that I ended up really liking because fish are notorious for their bad memory, live in tanks their whole lives(Fubuki is the definition of sheltered), and they have fins to mimic the shape of Fubukis cloak and hair. I used beta fish for reference, they don't really fit her but just being a fish was good enough for me and at that point I was prioritizing looks. She doesn't even really look like any specific species like the other three to be honest. She's defiantly the outlier of the group but that's fine, she can be special in her own unique way like always. Got a little lazy with making the hair look all that fin-like, but it's kinda the main event of her human design so I wanted to keep it as true to that as possible but looking at it now I think its tooooo copy and paste looking. Her furry design IS my brothers favorite out of the batch so that's gotta count for something!
Flying Fox Bat Vivia:
The vampire looking man was always gonna be a bat, I am but a slave to the whims of fate. I made him specifically a flying fox because they're the largest bat species and therefore can loom ominously. Vampire bat would have been fun too, but they have more of a squished bastard energy that doesn't really fit Vivia. Bats also are known for their weird sleeping habits, ala upside. Viva isn't sleeping upside down or anything like that but he DOES snooze in some weird places so I think comparing him to a bat in multiple aspects is very apt! His drawing and animal design is probably my favorite, I really like the wings, and the bat feet are super weird I loved doing those. I did have trouble incorperating his hair, flying foxes have pretty smooth heads, but they do have sort of a mane thing going on so I tried to put some of his hair texture and shape there instead. Sorry I did not give him is edgy edgy hair cut, I too love it very much but it was simply not to be. I did try to mimic it's vibe with the patterning on his head though, an illusion of his bangs.
I'm very happy with this lineup overall, they're some neat little designs if I do say so myself! I might do more but I have the chronic problem of not being able to sit still for a long time to do a BUNTCH of guys again(though for the record I would make Seth the most delightfully storm drain gutter looking creature). I also kinda wanna do Makoto and Yuma cause someone suggested a REALLY good idea for them, but the concept for Makoto with this idea would be more of an involved design that I wouldn't be able to use all of his normal outfit for so it'd probably take longer than average.
TLDR: Furries amiright?

I’d like to request Jade, forest, romantic
I love your writing, I'm so glad I found your blog. I hope you're having a great day!
Thank you for the kind words!  I have only been writing for a few months and had worried my blog wouldn’t gain any traction.  So, to hear from people who are finding it and enjoying it is so wonderful.  My readers really make my day! So, thank you all!
Tumblr media
You are cute as a button, Valentine.
You stared at the Valentine card, feeling a bit confused.  Jade watches you closely, observing your reaction with an interested smile.  “Is there a problem, Prefect?”  You jump slightly and look up.  “Oh, no.  I was just wondering why you drew mushrooms on the card.  It doesn’t match the poem at all.”  Jade puts one gloved hand to his chin, “Why, what do you mean?  These are clearly button mushrooms.  What a shame, Prefect, how will you pass your botany test without being able to identify the local flora?”
You feel a grimace set onto your lips.  You worriedly ask, “Do you think this will be on the test?”  Jade chuckles, “I do believe that was within the scope given to us, Prefect.  Do you find yourself unprepared for this?  Perhaps I can assist such a poor unfortunate soul and remedy this situation.”  Your grimace deepens.  At first, your intimidating classmate had made you rather apprehensive.  Over time, you’d gotten to know him better and recognize that he is, in fact, rather benevolent.  Only not for free.
“Ok, I give in.  What is this help going to cost me?” you ask him with a rueful smile.  “Why Prefect, you wound me to suggest,” Jade begins before you cut him off.  “I know, I know.  You are the soul of charity.  But if I was so moved by your compassion as to want to do something for you in return, what would that be?” you ask waving aside his crocodile tears.  Jade chuckles at how well you’ve managed to cut through his act and get to the point.  “Well I was planning to take a hike later this afternoon.  Alas, the Mountain Lovers Club has but one member.  How lonely it is hiking always by myself.”  At this, he puts his hand to his chin and lets his sharp-toothed grin show.
“Alright,” you begin, “It’s not like I was planning any romantic Valentine’s Day activities.  I’ll change into something suitable for hiking and meet you on Main Street after classes.”  You hadn’t intended to spend the day with Jade but honestly, it wasn’t sounding half-bad.  Nothing was worse than spending Valentine’s Day alone, so spending it on a fun activity with a friend had its own appeal.  Plus, there was something just so interesting about Jade; he was so knowledgeable about everything and, more importantly, he was never boring.
The climb was tiring but worth the effort.  Jade was an excellent guide, showing you various plants to sketch for your notes and telling you facts and details about them.  You felt like you were in good hands with him by your side, both on the trail and as a tutor.  As the elevation rose, the views became more and more breathtaking.  You were often stopped by the sight of the nearby town and forest as seen from high above.  Jade never hassled you to move faster but instead appears to enjoy watching you take in the sights; as though he gets more enjoyment from your awe than the scenery itself.
You reach a bend in the trail and see that above you the greenery is thinning out.  After this point, there are probably no more forests and plants.  Jade sees you pause and asks, “Would you like to see some more interesting specimens instead of moving on?”  You smile back at him, pleased that he was able to read you so well.  Jade leads you off the trail and into the forest until you came upon an old decaying log, in the shadow of which a colony of mushrooms had grown.  You gasp and rush forward, “Look Jade, button mushrooms!”  You climb on the log and do a little pose, “What do you think, am I still cute as a button?”  You laugh at your own joke while Jade looks on amused at your lively antics.
Only, the rotten log wasn’t meant to hold the weight of human anymore.  As you stand happily upon your stage, a sudden Crack! sounds.  In a split second, your merry joy becomes a frantic flailing; your arms windmilling as you fall.  Jade moves suddenly, with all the speed of a striking eel and manages to catch you before you land on the ground and hurt yourself.  You cling to his chest as you pant, the adrenaline making your heart pound.
As you catch your breath, you gaze down and notice and unfortunate sight.  “Jade, the mushrooms…”  In the rush to catch you, Jade had trampled over the mushrooms he so loved.  “I’m so sorry.  If only I hadn’t been so reckless.”  Jade turns to you sharply and asks roughly, “Do you really think I don’t care for you more than some mushrooms?”
When you had climbed the trail, you had felt a sense of altered perspective when seeing the familiar town from above.  What before had been glimpsed before only a piece at a time was made suddenly whole as it was laid out before your eyes.  You felt that same sense of perspective now, looking at Jade.  He had made no moves to resume his gentlemanly mask, instead leaving his expression unguarded, as you’ve never seen him before.  Suddenly, the paths and trails of his love were no longer glimpsed though small gestures but laid out before your eyes as clear as a map to his heart.
“Jade.”  You speak his name softly, feeling as though you are saying it for the first time.  “I never knew.  How did I miss it?  All this time we could have been together, wasted.”  Jade carefully sets your feet back on the ground, “It was never wasted when we were together.  You must know that.”  You gaze into his eyes, “So where do we go from here?”  He smiles at you gently, “Well, you never did answer me about being my Valentine.”  You smile a beaming grin and throw your arms around his neck, “Jade Leech, will you be my Valentine?”  He never did reply but, from the way his lips captured yours, you assumed the answer was yes.

hi hi !! I was wondering if I could have one of the redacted match ups? it's such a cool concept to be putting on ^^
What song are you fixated on at the moment? What lyric or verse, and why?
I believe the song I would go with would probably be Francesca by Hozier, or Unknown/Nth by Hozier. The Bridge to Unknown is probably my favourite because it's such a like emotional lyric. It depicts the story of someone willing to do anything for someone who doesn't love them back.
"Do you know I could break beneath the weight/Of the goodness, love, I still carry for you?/That I'd walk so far just to take/The injury of finally knowin' you?"
Do you love gargantuan Youtube video essays, and if so, which is your favorite and why?
I wouldn't mind listening to a video essay, but I don't purposefully go looking for them! If the topic seems interesting I might click on it tho ^^
What is your go-to way to fall asleep?
Usually cuddled up with a teddy and listening to a sleep aid ^^ there's only a few times that I pass out a few minutes after laying down/with no help. My favourite sleep aid to go to is Ollie's gaming sleep aid where he's playing MK (I have trouble with the "traditional" sleep aids because its too quiet)
If you had to change your name, what would it be, and why? (In tandem, if you have changed your name, why did you pick that one?)
I won't say what name I chose when i first found out I was Enby because it would (potentially) give me away but the reason I chose it is because it tied multiple parts of my interests together. It felt fitting for that reason. Plus, when ppl hear my name they can usually see that I picked it myself and know that I'm queer as hell so.
What is your favorite of Redacted’s audios, and why?
I adore Milo's "getting ready" video (getting dressed up for your feisty werewolf boyfriend), it always makes me feel very special ^^ I also just adore Milo in general (probably my top fav). I also really enjoy the imperium series as it gives us a different side to the boys we love sm.
What Redacted boy holds no appeal to you, and why? Like, not the one you hate but the one who you don’t get the hype for. (I won’t judge, I promise.)
I think that one of the boys I don't understand the hype for is Lasko (though, he's slowly growing on me now). I don't know what it was about early Lasko but he just didn't scratch that part of my brain for the longest time.
Tell me about that one book/movie/tv show you know all the words to.
Oh gods I could go one about this. I would have to say the percy jackson series (and Heroes of Olympus) as that is a series that has stuck with me since middle school. Though honourable mention to Tangled (the movie) because oh how I love it so
Which Redacted boy are you platonically attracted to? Like- forget dating, which dude do you want to be your best friend?
Guy, honestly. Like don't get me wrong i would date him too, but if we're talking friendship he seems like a pretty cool dude.
Do you have a go-to thing you ramble about when you’re tired, and if so, what is it? (For example, my boyfriend knows I’m ready to sleep when I start talking about space.)
The ancient greeks, my ocs, sometimes also space. I never really get to a point where I ramble all that often while tired, but if I'm tired and thinking about something you will hear about it.
Tell me your go-to gas station and drink combo.
Probably Circle K because it's the closest to my house and I usually go for a cherry slushie or orange crush.
Tell me about your favorite playlist at the moment.
Probably the playlist where I compiled all the Epic: The Musical Songs, or one of my many oc playlists. I will say I do often listen to my spotify Daylist though, that usually brings me a great vibe
What’s your guilty pleasure media, and why?
Bear in the Big Blue House, because it was the show from my childhood. Also Grey's Anatomy because sometimes I like getting lost in the dumb drama on that show
And whatever else you think tells me about who you are!
ummm lets see, maybe that im a reader and creator. I love creating things and indulging in others creations so much its insane. I also don't have a strict like association with foods only being for certain meals. like pancakes/eggs and bacon are an any meal kinda food kinda deal. I'm also more of a night owl, though if I get enough sleep I don't mind being up at 5/6 am if its needed/gives me time to chill before the day "actually starts".
Thank you !!

So Avior went through HELL, a whole-ass hell, and made the tragic, Byronic hero’s choice to drag his lover back into that hell. That’s so Unreal Unearth-coded. That’s, like, textbook Hozier; that’s your man.
That’s half of it; the other half is that Avior is so Greek mythology, classics, Socratic coded. Like, he gives so much dark academic vibes, and he really rocks it. That’s a man who has strong opinions about Marcus Aurelius and Stoicism in the best way. Avior loves hearing you talk about Greek myths and philosophy and would be the kind of partner where you’d have lots of lively discussions on translations and interpretation of their literature.
Every day with him would be so lively; Avior is the type who’d be such a fantastic beta reader when you’re in need of him. He’s thoughtful, analytical but not cruel or harsh. The two of you just devour books, reccing things to each other constantly. Avior’d also be so fun to watch Grey’s Anatomy with in that he fucking hated it at first but he’s obsessed now. He would have a big crush on Dr. Yang, and who could blame him?
Song:
My feet are aching/ And your back is pretty tired/ And we've drunk a couple bottles, babe/ And set our grief aside/ The papers say it's doomsday/ The button has been pressed/ We're gonna nuke each other up boys/ 'Til old Satan stands impressed/ And here it is, our final night alive
I love this song and how fantastic, longing, romantic, and tragic it is. It’s a little more Imperium than Prime-coded but no matter the universe, the vibes of holding onto one another as the sky falls to pieces around you will always suit you and Avior. (This is my favorite version but I also recommend the Matt Maltese original.)
Runner-Ups:
Anton is a runner-up because he also gives tragic academic vibes but not as fun for you, you know? He reads all the same classics but doesn’t have as many strong opinions about them. Blake is your other runner-up because he’s also incredibly Hozier-coded to me but like in a derogatory way.
note: thank you for waiting and submitting 💌
Read this post and send me an ask if you’d like a match-up of your own! 💌

Shazam! Fury of the Gods - Review
I am a big fan of the first Shazam movie. To me, that is one of the unique superhero movies that is less about action and superheroics, and more about heart and emotion. Plus, it was genuinely funny. So I was very excited when the entire team reunited to do Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Just saw the movie today and while I don't think its as good as the first, the film was a lot of fun. Arguably my favorite superhero movie since The Batman.
The film feels like it improves on some elements from the first film and is inferior on other elements. One thing the film definitely improves on is the action and visual effects. The first Shazam was fairly measured on its big action set pieces. And the Seven Deadly Sins definitely felt quite video gamy. Here though, the action sequences are quite good and the visuals on the Dragon, as seen in the trailer, are quite awesome. The film's humor is also on point. There is a scene with Helen Mirren reading a letter which had me in stitches laughing. The humor is consistent and keeps the tone light and frothy. The film also gives all the characters something to do and they all have some sort of purpose and story. Djimon Honsou's Wizard has a much expanded role and he and Jack Dylan Grazer's Freddy share some really funny scenes. The cast also has a lot of chemistry and immense likability, so you enjoy watching the various antics they get up to. The film is also fairly quick paced. It never slacks or bores the audience. The very final climactic set piece is pretty cool.
The one element that the film is inferior to compared to its predecessor, is the emotional heart. It is a little tricky for this film because one of the appeals of the first film was the little kid in a superhero's body. But Billy isn't so young anymore. They still have enough of it to be fun, but it is no longer as refreshing. Also, there is nothing quite as emotionally powerful as the arc of Billy trying to find his mother and finally coming to terms with the fact that his mother rejected him. The film actually doesn't spend enough time with the characters as kids. The key arc with Billy clinging onto his family out of the fear of losing them doesn't have enough emotional weight because we don't see Billy as a kid in situations where that worry would come up. Also, the key dynamic between Freddy and Billy, which was the heart of the first film, is pushed to the side though it does come full circle at the end. The entire action climax could have been trimmed down because it does start to feel a bit repetitive although the ending of the climax is kickass. They could have given that 10-15 mins to giving some more depth to all the kids and their individual predicaments.
The performances are strong across the board. All the kids and their counterparts are perfectly matched. Levi is still a delight as Shazam. Asher Angel doesn't have enough to do in this film but he makes an impression. Jack Dylan Grazer is a scene stealer, as he was in the first film and Adam Brody is a very apt adult Freddy. Ross Butler and Ian Chen as Eugene, DJ Cotrona and Jovan Armand as Pedro, Meaghan Goode and Faithe Herman as Darla, and Grace Caroline Currey as Mary are all excellent. I particularly love how Meaghan Goode plays adult Darla. Grace also makes an impression as the most level headed sibling of the lot. Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu are all enjoyable as the daughters of Atlas. Marta Milans and Cooper Andrews as the foster parents are very likable and the movie could have used more of them. Djimon Honsou is a hoot and clearly having a lot of fun.
All in all this was still a really fun film. I feel bad that this film is bombing so badly at the BO. I still can't believe that Morbius had a better opening weekend than what this film will have. Unfortunately, this film feels like it was a bad victim of circumstance. Coming 4 years after the first film, which was probably too big a gap for a minor character, after a spate of comic book films which haven't been received with a lot of positivity, with no major integration into the main DCEU till then, with now also the image of being a dead franchise walking after Gunn and Safran have taken over DC, there just has been audience apathy towards the film that the marketing hasn't been able to overcome. I also find the reviews for this to be strange. While I do think the first Shazam is a bit better, I don't get how that has a 90% RT and this has a 54%. I would have thought it would at least have a 75-80% RT rating. I think David F. Sandberg has done a real admirable job with these two Shazam films and its sad that we won't see any more of these but I have enjoyed the two we got. I'd rate this a solid 8/10 on first watch.

unpopular opinion: the sonic franchise has gotten too big and/or mainstream, to the point were it seems like it focuses more on appealing to general audiences and fan pandering rather than experimenting and doing their own thing.
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
I half agree but not really for the reasons you say
Sonic has always been big. Even at its lowest points, it has always been one of the most recognizable videogame brands. Now it's enjoying a boost of popularity thanks to the movies and Frontiers, but let's not forget the powerhouse it was in the '90s. Plus, many games from the past were clearly trying to chase trends - ShTH was a response to the edgier current of the time, '06 wanted to be more realistic and mature taking advantage of the new console era, Unleashed's Werehog took great inspiration from God of War, Sonic 4 came out after the success of Megaman 9 and its "going back to the series' roots"...
Basically, I don't think Sonic has become suddenly popular and so only now it's trying to be appealing.
But I believe they're heavily reacting to the backlash of the so-called "Meta era", which was itself a response to the backlash of the "Adventure era": I still remember when fans were displeased by how dark and complicated the games of the time were, and games like Colors were praised to high heavens for small things such as not having an intro, or having Eggman as the final boss. Yeah, shocking, right? :V but now people got tired of the more lighthearted games and the more insistent nostalgic callbacks, and SEGA is trying to re-rail the series again.
Frontiers is a very, very clear attempt to please the people who declare Forces to be the nadir of the series: the game is extremely long, the plot is more character focused, it references games like no tomorrow, it finally brought back heavy rock songs (metalcore, even) after Ohtani was criticized for sounding too much like Mario or churning mediocre tracks, the beloved Flynn wrote the script...
The pendulum is simply swinging back. We may be in a new era that attempts to recreate the Adventure era magic. We'll see.

Product diffusion from the past -- Is it a bad sign that I've barely heard of these?
I really enjoyed this week's case, which covered the early product diffusion process of four offerings: a pre-packaged slice of peanut butter, a silver-lined bandage, Sirius/XM radios, and an "odor printer". I was struck by the absurdity of most of these offerings, despite the very real coverage they earned at the time, and the fact that with the exception of one, I'd never even heard of them. The case asked for our ranked analysis of which products will diffuse most quickly/broadly. Here are my thoughts:
Sirus/XM radio. While known to me as a single entity, Sirius and XM were once competitors in the emerging pay-for-radio space. The business case is clear: commuters and drivers who spend significant time in their car each day were unsatisfied with the unreliable, ad-riddled, and un-customizable radio experience. Sirius/XM had insight into their customer base, size, and could estimate who was willing to pay for more targeted, high quality content. Pair this with a deal to offer the service with car purchases from GM, Ford, and Chrysler, and you've removed significant barriers for customers to adopt the product. No wonder this is the only offering I've heard of.
Westaim Biomedical silver bandages. As someone who grew up in the small town of Exeter, NH I was excited to see a company from Exeter represented in the case. The bad news: I, nor my friends or family, have ever heard of it. However, that does not mean it was all bad for Westaim. While anecdotally it seems the silver bandages did not reach OTC consumer appeal, the company had insight into its addressable market and proven efficacy in medical applications like chronic wounds. My guess is that the patent was acquired or is maybe used in more specialized hospital settings today, which is still a relative win for diffusion.
Pre-packaged slice of peanut butter. This offering feels like nothing more than a spoof food item, and I doubt it had mass diffusion in the consumer market. On the plus side, the company did appear to try and solve a problem faced by its consumers (peanut butter pulled on soft bread when making a PB&J) and thus had a better chance of diffusion than one less researched. While I believe society is always looking for a shortcut, this might be one step too far and too unnecessary. Maybe the better product is the R&D put into non-stick packaging--now THAT could be useful in several applications.
"Odor spray/printer". This idea was both ridiculous and broad. Who were they appealing to? The article mentioned "foodies", or people with a heightened appreciation for the value of good smell, but overall the product strategy felt directionless and unattainable. Seeing as I've never heard of such a thing, I imagine this idea died before there was even a product to test.
Doing these types of thought exercises has been valuable as my Branding group thinks about our project addressing Peloton. Peloton has most likely reached its peak diffusion when it comes to its hardware bike. Peloton now has to re-brand to diffuse a new product offering, its fitness software, and gauge a whole new group of customers for potential adoption. This won't be easy, as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and even gyms have begun offering similar content.

Genuine answer about the overproduced shows question - It's not that fans were unhappy with how the shows were produced before the announcement, in fact most people were very happy with it! But, Watcher announced exactly how expensive this production is and how, in order to fund that production, they need to move to watcher.tv; this immediately creates backlash from these same fans who WERE happy with the production of the shows, but it still wasn't and will not be the REASON these shows do so well. People love Watcher because of the dynamics, the educational content, the clever writing, banter... The incredible production was just a beautiful bonus which ultimately means more to the creator than the consumer, given the kind of audience Watcher has curated on YouTube (mostly youngsters, students, young adults looking for comfort content from their favorite Internet personalities; people who consume their content with varying degrees of dedication and regularity. We can assume that these people can get TV-caliber content from, well, TV, when that's what they want to watch.)
It seems kind of weird to say that people don't deserve to be upset about paying for high-quality TV caliber content to be produced. Those very same people, that very same audience, didn't connect with Watcher because of its production quality in the first place. So people will be upset about having to fund something they don't consider a fundamental part of enjoying a Watcher video. People will want them to cut down on production costs instead of making them pay for something they don't necessarily want.
This is, of course, incredibly one-sided. Watcher feel proud of producing such high-quality and expensive products and I'm absolutely sure it fulfills them creatively. They want to make the best product they can. That's admirable and it should be commended. But it costs so much money, money that they do not have anymore. And there is now a disconnect between the audience's needs and wants, and their own, neither of which are wrong but they are simply not compatible. They cannot expect people to want to pay for their upward climb toward higher and higher-quality content. That's not what their fans see in Watcher and its future. It's a pretty sad situation.
hi anon! thank you for the genuine answer.
while i totally understand, and people have every right to be upset (you may not be talking abt me, and just in general, but to clarify- i have never said it's weird that people are upset. it's weird that people are attacking them, but not being upset. and i'm all for a potential middle ground that watcher may come up with), it's still overall odd people are saying it's overproduced. like yes, you can say you're for the dynamic, for the banter, and that the production was just a plus. i am in it for the dynamics and banter too. but, like you said, watcher wants to produce high-quality products that serve them because they like to create it.
to do this, they shouldn't have to downsize. they shouldn't have to let go of people at all (which was what buzzfeed did and im sure letting go of people wouldve created some backlash too). so they looked for an alternative, and while a bit hasty in terms of not soft launching it at all, they were looking for a better way to make money. i'm not saying people have to agree with it, i'm also ambivalent about it.
im gonna quote the wonderful @/littlekingbergara because they explained it better than me:
"i think people complaining about the production are so happy to see them stagnate. they started the company so they could make shows that creatively fulfilled them and so they wouldn't have to trim down or sanitize their work for a corporation that was at the time buzzfeed and now youtube is doing the same thing. forcing its creators to be advertiser-friendly at the cost of Literally Making No Money for one mistake that can't be undone because its appeals process is inconsistent and may as well be nonexistent. youtube started out as the best platform for them because of the income potential from their built-in audience from buzzfeed and it just isn't that anymore because it's working against its own creators."
but yea anon. it is a pretty sad situation for many. but people have to realize where watcher is coming from, and from the beginning, they have advertised their company as something they want to create tv-caliber content on, and the fact that many people are complaining that it's overproduced when it was always aiming for high production, is simply just odd to me imo 😭 it is okay for people to simply say 'i don't want to pay for this' and move on. they don't have to comment on production quality sdfshdf

to try to put an earlier thought about fan work and commodity in a less frenetic, more cohesive way, it's one of those things that thrives from being divorced from context that also makes it fraught as a way of feeding back into media consumption
it's easy for us to see on one hand, there are artists who are independently creating work, where monetary gain is minimal and means maybe this week it's a bit easier to pay rent.
On the other you have "buy a Disney plus subscription and watch this show the 'correct' way so they can keep making more content!" and it's a celebrity cast with a zionist director or something. Also Disney. Also the corporate subscription system.
Good job, you've helped set the pieces for the diabolical Rue Goldberg machine of capitalism and encouraged others to do the same.
Most things are more blurry. This platform, for instance, is less than ideal in countless ways and at worst, morally bankrupt, but it's still a resource that can be taken advantage of to the ends of spreading word about other resources, or helping drum up awareness - if nobody knows what's going on, they're going to listen to what's being told to them. We know which voices are the loudest.
Paying attention to which accounts have checkmarks, though, it's not as if we aren't complicit in some ways. When we use this site and it encourages others to do the same, we're paying indirectly.
There's always going to be more decision making than electing to shrug and say "no ethical consumption under capitalism" - that absence of a decision to decide where to draw the line is a kind of crime of omission. This "I just wanna draw my silly guys from my funny shows tee hee ^^".
I make and weigh up my decision to use this site every day that I do. I still think, ultimately, it is more optimal than a subscription service, it's... reasonably... user friendly (although, that gets less and less true by the day) and it's fairly accessible. I like that fan communities are a free, open space for people to chat and hang out.
I might change that decision tomorrow. I think it would be a shame, considering how long I've been around, but I don't need to fortify my identity as a "tumblr user".
That should extend to fan work. I don't guarantee you my patronage. If TF2 became a subscription service, I might rescind. I already feel very on-the-fence about supporting Valve - while it was a pioneer company, it's still encompassed by the vast and profitable Steam, which is corporate in its makings and as such, dubious. I wouldn't really encourage anyone to give them money, but I can't stop it either.
The other thing about this kind of disconnect is how most people online treat you as only the sum of your parts. The entity that is you is comprised of commodities they enjoy. Most people who find your work will do it through the frame of whatever they were already looking for, people who don't necessarily have any ideas about these conscious decisions we make.
I do know of artists deliberately making themselves harder to find because of this. Either disappearing any trace of the person behind the work, or obscuring the work to begin with. To a degree, it kind of undermines the joy of open accessibility that made these sites appealing, but I also understand why.
The sad part of closing yourself off from a community is that it can make it harder for smaller artists who just want to get by, doing what they do, to be seen at all. It's harder to reap the benefits of using this platform, with a lot of the same risks anyway.
I think everyone, to some degree, has an obligation to encourage conscious decisions like this, and show awareness of the strings attached to whatever their new shiny thing is. You're never really going to get there by trying to purge everything or double down about why you're allowed to stop caring.

Man FUCK that bitch ass fucking assassin motherfucker I hope he rots. Sorry he pissed me off to no end.
Also yeah FemShep’s VA is considered the better VA of the Shepards which makes sense MaleShep is voiced by Mark Meer who hadn’t done much voice work before, his biggest role being Cyric in Baldur’s Gate II, and FemShep was voiced by Jennifer Hale who had been at it for almost 20 years at the time. It wasn’t just Jennifer Hale either, Anderson being Keith David and Joker being Seth Green who had both been doing it over 20 years. I liked MaleShep’s voice though and never had a problem with it because it’s very main heroy and recognizable like I’d instantly know that it was Shepard if I heard it.
I knew that the series wouldn’t be exactly up with the times because it was 2007-2012 but Jesus I had no idea that FemShep gets harassed so much.
I didn’t get a reconcile scene on the Citadel since I didn’t romance anyone in ME1 I went into the series with Tali on my mind as my definitive romance.
I don’t think Thane praying for you instead himself is unique to his romance? Or at least I remember something similar happening maybe it was his son.
You can’t hit on EDI as MaleShep I’m pretty sure don’t remember that being an option however you can still hit on Joker as MaleShep I remember seeing that option and going “why would I say that?” Also I’m surprised you never mentioned the Joker segment of Mass Effect 2 where you sneak around the ship as Joker that section surprised the shit out of me.
Oh yeah a fun little fact, remember the show Once Upon a Time I’ve mentioned a couple times when talking about fairy tales? The actor who plays Kaiden was in that show and played the show’s version of Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio. I don’t remember what happened to Cricket in the show though. He may have just stopped being relevant so they never brought him up again since the show just fucking loved doing that.
Is the hot assassin guy supposed to be unlikeable? I liked him so far, like ngl, plus he's pretty cool. Evil living weapons of destructions, my beloveds.
And yeah, i really like femshep, but it is pretty cool of them to give maleshep VA a chance for such a big character. Sure, it could've been better, but he probably did the best he could with the skills he had at the time, and it did appeal to some people!
And man I'm just lucky I actually enjoy these things ingames, like I am down to being a whore and flirting with everyone so it doesn't bother me when the npcs forcefully flirt with you bc you picked a woman. What bothers me is that the fact it's only bc you picked a woman, and just because I wanted it doesn't mean other people do and it might make them very uncomfortable. There are several mods to remove the sexual harassments femshep gets, I wish there was one to remove it for EDI tho.
We should all have a choice, is what I'm saying. It feels like femshep was made to appeal to straight guys who might play her as an outsider observer. Same with some lesbian characters, too, ngl- not all of them, but the game has its moments where it makes me realise oh this was put here for a straight dude to gawk at. Meanwhile, maleshep feels the proper self insert badass at times. Really hate that.
That's why I like picking NB options whenever they're present, you're free from expectations and the devs aren't sure what to make of you so they don't try to appeal to a certian demographic and just write your character as a character.
You did Tali romance? Hell yeah she is an amazing character and her relationship with Shepard feels phenomenal. Like a scientist princess and her knight in shining armour, amazing. Plus she is all adorable when she talks about engines and how we get to help her so many times.
Apparently her and Garrus end up together if you don't romance her, but I haven't seen it yet. She always felt close to Shepard, especially in the second game where she is the first friendly face you see.
I haven't met her yet in ME3, still doing side errands. I am very very broke and everything is very very expensive and I miss sugar daddy illusive man pls take me back, the alliance became more stingy than I remember or inflation is hitting hard.
Fuck I hat like 999999 something credits in the first game, why couldn't it tranfer over??
And Thane!! My heart! He even prays for you when he's not romanced??? That's it, he is legit the most precious character and no one else comapres. I would die for Thane, I would kill everyone on the Normady for Thane.
But I know Thane would forgive me If I picked Grunt over him bc my son which just makes Thane the most amazing man ever, DRELL ARE SUPERIOR I TELL YOU.
Also so far Drell worship Hanar (kinda) and Hanar worship protheons (kinda) and Javik likes humans(he is all current protheon population)
So by association! Drell and Humans are conncted, and no, I will not give up my tank of copium. Go buy your own. Idk what overdosing is, I have insomnia I forgot.
And aww we can't hit on EDI :( i would've treated her better than Joker.
Yeah I had the same reaction to the flirting with Joker line but just went for it because what's the worst that can happen? He says no and we laught it off.
Imagine if the worst was him retiring from being your pilot and you get soma rando driving the Normady around who now runs at half the speed and takes twice as much gas plus occasionally breaks down and you have to pay 100k credits for repairs.
Oh also then there is this one thing I am sure is exclusive to femshep.
You can sleep with Javik. The protheon. Yes.
But it's not a full romance :"(
He has four eyes I wonder if he has four-
I heard about once upon a time, the show. But never watched it.
I did however watch a random person talk about it in a video essay because I prefer that over watching shows.
This one.
It was fun, I'm not big on fairytales but I enjoyed hearing about it.
The Joker sneak section in ME2 didn't resonate with me much for some reason. It was nice but I didn't feel the pressure at all and with EDI constantly talking it got annoying and I just wanted it to be over.
His jokes were nice but the moment of trusting EDI didn't hit the same way it should've. It didn't feel endearing or earnest.
The sudden flip in their relationship afterwards was too jarring.
I prefer ME3 EDI and Joker dynamic over ME2. However I hate how EDI is becoming a "born sexy yesterday" character by the game when her core as a character is so profound and genuine. She wants to know her purpose, what it means to be alive and all the other characters mention about her is her body which is bleh.
Even some of her dialogues with Joker is just overplayed sex jokes. It's all of her amazing writing vanishes the moment it's not just her and Shepard in a conversation.
Kaidan's voice actor is great! He even stood out to me in the first game. You notice how much more convicnising and immersive his delivery was over the other characters, almost outshined ME1 femshep even.
It's like the dialogue and the way he delievers it fit perfectly. If I just read it, then I get a completely different impression.
The game doesn't have bad voice actors it just has very bad delivery from some characters. It's when someone keeps a constant tone and doesn't portray any emotions or adds any personalisation into the dialogue. It feels tone deaf a lot when what the character is speaking about is something intimiate, yet it sounds the same as asking about the weather.
Still, it is nostalgic in a way, this was extremely common in older games.

I finished watching the latest The Witcher season and I kind of understand that Henry Cavill is leaving, as he seems to be an uber-nerd when it comes to Sapkowski’s book series. I,too, love the books and games...and I know that any adaptation has to make changes because some things might work in writing but not on the screen, but some story points and the behavior of some characters
do not make sense to me in that show. I think the show is at its strongest when it follows the narrative of the book series more closely, as soon as it deviates to much, well, the writing just becomes bad e.g. the character development of some side characters felt very erratic at times. Even as someone who knows the narrative, I had trouble following the story and making sense of why this character suddenly behaved in a completely different way than before. I suppose it might be even worse for people who don’t know the books. It just felt like things and events, especially the whole political aspect of the story, were brushed aside or over-simplified for the series compared to the books. And what is worse is that it felt like some characters have been dumbed down. Moreover, the pacing just felt off at times and I somehow did not care most of the time for the characters and what was happening to them, especially in the first half of the season. That changed somewhat with the last four episodes. In my opinion, the fifth episode is the strongest of this season. Probably because I usually enjoy non-linear story telling and it is the closest to the books, they even used a good chunk of dialogue from the books. I also liked episode seven and eight, especially Ciri’s journey - which was also rather truthful to the events in the book, plus it was really cool to see The Rats for the first time, which I thought were introduced very well.
The costume design and the set pieces as well as the visual effects are still hit and miss in my opinon. Though, one thing that stood out for me in a positive way was the new design of the Dryads. I think they looked really amazing and it fit with who they are, a definitiv improvement over how they were portrayed in season 1.
In conclusion, the show had it moments, but they were to far and few to make it an enjoyable watching experience. I mean, as a lover of the books I could go on a rant about some creative choices, but the thing that annoys me the most is how it feels like the creators themselves or at least those in charge do not understand the appeal of Sapkowski’s narrative. He has created such an intriguing and rich universe with political intrigues and literally warring parties, the threath of world changing events constantly hanging in the air, and somehow the series lacks all of the interesting aspects or simplifies them in a way that makes them boring. Sapkowski’s series is like a 12-course menu and I guess, I just expected the show to deliver a full healthy meal and what I got instead was a meager unhealthy snack that is soon forgotten because there is nothing memorable enough about it except a dull aftertaste.

5. Meta you would write if you did not fear people would be SUPER weird about it. This is also an invitation to write that meta and block the haters.
Hoo boy, yeah I've got one. While I don't really ship W*dojest, I kinda wish more Shadowgast fic would acknowledge Caleb's canonical feelings for Jester. I like the dimension it adds to his character arc, I enjoy their scenes together in the show, and I'm a slut for pining in all forms. Plus, given Caleb's poly background it's not mutually exclusive for him to still carry a torch for Jester while also falling for Essek. Plus Jester/Caleb/Essek (also known as Donutmancy) is a poly ship I have a major soft spot for.
Despite this, W*dojest isn't a ship I really enjoy very much on its own. Partly because "manic pixie dream girl" doesn't appeal to me as a romance dynamic; partly because I've never gotten the vibe that she sees him that way; and partly because I think Jester is a lot happier sailing the high seas with Fjord, seeing new places everyday, than she would be hanging out in Rexxentrum while Caleb reforms the Empire.
I mostly avoid talking about it because W*dojest has attracted a lot of radioactive discourse from people who rabidly hate the pairing. I want nothing to do with that shit. People who use this post to rant about the ship being "problematic" or whatever will get blocked.
30. What is your favorite theory or headcanon that has absolutely no bearing on the plot and isn't important at all, but which is completely compliant with canon?
Related to the above: Caleb has fantasized about Jester and Fjord inviting him to a threesome at least once.

Tinkaton for Pokemon Unite!
Tumblr media
Season 1
Prev: Torterra - Scrafty - Starmie - Luvdisc - Boltund
As a fan of pokemon for years, there is one thing that I have to confess. A pokemon takes a long while for the appeal to hit right for me. Even my favorite pokemon of all time, Cradily, took years for me to warm up to. I enjoy pokemon battling more, and the designs of the pokemon are treated as a nice plus for me.
That didn’t happen with Tinkaton. When I first laid eyes on her and her pre-evolutions, it was an immediate positive reception for me, and I’m pretty sure it was the same for you too. The pink face, the oversized hammer, the criminal habits, all of these things are instant success in appeal and favor, as a lot of people actually voted that this pokemon was the best designed one for Gen 9 (seriously, look it up). It’s no surprise that I want to see her for Pokemon Unite, and if you’ve read this far, then I’m sure you do too.
So let’s do it. Let’s see how this pink powerhouse pilfers and pummels in Pokemon Unite!
Tumblr media
While none of Tinkaton’s stats are bad, per se, there are some major grievances I have with this particular distribution, mainly it’s Attack stat. It’s only 5 points higher than it’s Sp. Atk, which is her lowest stat overall. There is a shocking number of pokemon that share this Attack stat with her (Ampharos, Sableye, Skeledirge, etc.) and even more that outright outclass this number (Hatterene, Pawniard). I mean, sure, it’s a very well rounded stat spread, and that Sp. Def and Speed are very useful, but I can’t help but feel like a pokemon with a giant hammer should hit harder than a freaking Whiscash!
Well, nothing like a recalibration to make a pokemon work in Pokemon Unite. Tinkaton, I dub thee with the role of an...
All-Rounder
Basic Attack - Melee/Attack
Becomes a boosted attack after two hits. Each hit produces a piece of scrap that can be picked up. The boosted attack drops two pieces of scrap on hit and deals increased damage. The range increases as the pokemon evolves.
A piece of scrap is produced when an enemy receives damage. If multiple enemies are damaged, multiple pieces of scrap are produced for each enemy hit.
The range of the basic attack increases by 50% each time the pokemon evolves. Tinkaton attacks by hitting enemies with the backside of the hammer.
The boosted attack is a wide ranged swing that damages all enemies nearby.
The scrap comes in three varieties; a bent screw, a chewed up piece of plating, and a solid chip of metal. However, these are just visual differences and all pieces provide 1 piece of scrap.
The Tinkaton line is known for attacking Steel type pokemon to break off pieces of their bodies and nab them in order to use the materials for their hammers. While there’s no guarantee that a Steel type pokemon will be on the opposing team in every single game, Tinkaton still has the ability to generate scrap with its attacks. It’s just a quirk of the pokemon, I guess.
By itself, the attack is very meager. Yes, each hit generates scrap that Tinkaton can pick up, but then what? Well, it can use these scraps to power up its attacks later on, but let’s focus on the qualities of this basic attack. Right away, the boosted basic attack generates two bits of scrap instead of one, totaling 4 morsels from an uninterrupted round of hits. The boosted basic attack also has Tinkaton swing the hammer around in a circle, making it possible to attack a whole group of enemies from within. The range gets wider as she evolves, which makes her better at rushing in and cleaning house if she’s feeling bold enough.
Because of how important it is for Tinkaton to collect scrap, the full details are explained further in the ability section.
Ability: Mold Breaker
The pokemon’s attacks pierce a portion of the enemy’s shield and destroys it. The more pieces of scrap the pokemon picks up, the greater the piercing and shield damage. If the enemy has no shield, the pokemon’s attacks deal extra damage.
The pokemon’s attacks deal 20% damage to the targets shield and destroys it afterwards. The remaining 80% is received as piercing damage. The 20% shield damage is applied to the pokemon’s Attack, not the size of the shield.
The shield damage increases the more scrap you have. However, the pokemon will always deal 80% piercing damage per hit.
All shields are affected by Mold Breaker, including the one provided by Assault Vest.
Ability based protections, such as Espeon’s Magic Bounce or Glaceon’s Snow Cloak are not affected. Clefable’s Magic Bounce and Tsareena’s Queenly Majesty are affected, however.
The number of scrap you have is determined by your Score Pocket. Aeos Orbs and scrap is collected in the Score Pocket and cannot overlap. If you have 20 pieces of scrap, you will only be able to hold 30 Aeos Orbs at Level 12 or higher, for example.
Each piece of scrap you have adds 1% of shield damage to Mold Breaker. A Score Pocket full of scrap adds 30% (Level 1 - 8) to 50% (Level 12 or higher) of extra shield damage and normal damage to your attacks. The scrap difference is highlighted on the HUD by your on-screen Score Pocket, showing how many pieces of scrap are occupying your Score Pocket.
The shield damage multiplier becomes a normal damage multiplier if the enemy has no shield.
You cannot pick up more scrap if you do not have the space for it in your Score Pocket. When KOd, all scrap in your Score Pocket and on the field disappears.
When an attack uses up some or all of the pokemon’s reserve of scrap, the original number of scrap is applied in the attack calculation.
Whew, man, that’s a lot of bullet points, but it got down everything that needed to be explained about Tinkaton’s scrappy mechanic (double pun, yes!).
The main gist of Mold Breaker is that Tinkaton puts away all the scrap she’s collected in the same pocket as her Aeos Orbs. This is actually very bad, as having too much of one or the other can greatly hamper her effectiveness in battle. However, this is entirely intentional, and the main reason why Tinkaton is an All-Rounder. While she can collect scrap to power up her attacks, indulging too much in the metal leftovers can limit her ability to score. But if you’re too focused on scoring, you’ll lack the ability to empower your attacks with scrap. And if you can’t score to offload your hoard of Aeos Orbs, your offensive effectiveness is restricted.
This is where Mold Breaker’s secondary effect comes into play. Each time Tinkaton damages an enemy with a shield, a small portion of that attacks damage destroys the shield, and the rest is dealt as true damage. The more scrap you have, the more of the shield you destroy, and this is all done at no cost to your scrap reserves. This helps Tinkaton break stalemates and can even make it possible to push against enemies empowered by the shields of their Goal Zones and allies. Moreso, if the enemy has no shield, the scrap adds more attack power to Tinkaton’s attacks. Granted, her Attack stat is rather low, which is why she relies on scrap to empower herself.
While Mold Breaker greatly increases Tinkaton’s ability to deal damage and break shields, some of her moves use up scrap to become stronger, which forces Tinkaton to always be collecting bits and pieces. It’s all about balance, much like a hammer, snarf.
Tumblr media
At the start of the game, Tinkaton will start out as Tinkatink. You can choose between Rock Smash and Metal Claw as your first move. By Level 3, it will have learned both.
Move 1: Rock Smash
The pokemon swings its weapon in a wide arc, damaging enemies and shoving them away. Pieces of scrap are dropped on hit. If this attack damaged enemies with shields, increases the number of scrap dropped. 9s cooldown.
4 pieces of scrap are dropped for each enemy hit. 6 pieces of scrap are dropped when enemies with shields are damaged.
Any shield damaged will produce scrap, such as the shields provided by a Goal Zone or the Assault Vest item.
Scrap is produced at the point of impact, making it easy for Tinkatink to collect the scrap and get away.
See, when Lucario punches you in the face with Meteor Mash at the beginning of the game, it’s infuriating and insulting. But when a literal baby with a metal club for a rattler swings her toy a little too hard, it’s adorable. She hits a little too hard, though, as she dislodges some scrap from the attack. The attack is a little wider ranged than Lucario’s Meteor Mash, which makes it better.
The utility of a shove attack in the early game cannot be understated, as it opens up many opportunities that are difficult to exploit later on in the match. Whether you use it to knock an enemy away from their Goal Zone, giving you space to score, or away from your own Goal Zone in defense, it’s an extremely useful move.
It also produces more scrap than your basic attack, but that’s because it sends them out of range from any followup attack. If you hit an enemy with a shield, more scrap is dropped, which Tinkatink can then use to power up its moves. If you’re feeling especially bold, you can launch this attack against an enemy holed up in their Goal Zone and knock them away with Rock Smash. Because the Goal Zone provides a shield, it can be destroyed by Mold Breaker and also makes more scrap for you when you hit them with Rock Smash. It also gives you just enough clearance to try and score 5 or so points.
With all this scrap you’ve collected, it’s time to put them to good use.
Move 2: Metal Claw
The pokemon charges forward with its metal club, slashing along the way. Half of the pokemon’s scrap reserve is consumed and increases the pokemon’s attack. The more scrap consumed, the greater the attack boost and the longer the duration of the boost. 6.5s cooldown.
Consuming 1 piece of scrap with Metal Claw grants a 1.5x Attack boost for 1.5 seconds. Consuming 15 pieces of scrap grants a 3x Attack boost for 3 seconds. 1 scrap grants a 0.1x multiplier for both boosts.
Scrap is consumed even if the attack misses or fails to deal damage.
The attack is a dash attack and can be used to move through walls.
Now, math isn’t my strong suit, but it’s necessary to translate the power of scrap in Tinkatink’s attacks. While Metal Claw isn’t a far reaching attack, it grants an Attack boost afterwards by using up some of your scrap reserve. With 1 piece of scrap, you’ve got a slight attack boost for a little while, but this increases the more scrap you have to give up. It will only ever take half of your reserve, so you will always have some scrap left over, but this makes the followup Metal Claw weaker unless you refill it by beating the daylights out of your enemies.
If you use the attack all willy-nilly, you will run low on scrap to use. This might not be a bad thing, though, as that makes more space for you to stash away Aeos Orbs. You do need to make some scores every now and then. In the heat of battle, it might be tempting to go all out to clear the lane, as with all of that scrap used up, you’ll have clearance to make a big score. It’s not a bad idea, but you have to understand just how much scrap you need to make an impact with Metal Claw’s boost. Until you reach Level 9, your Score Pocket maxes out to 30, which limits how much total Aeos Orbs AND scrap you can have. With a totally full Score Pocket full of scrap, you will use up 15 pieces of scrap, and after that it only decreases until you collect more.
The low cooldown is a nice plus, but it means you’ll be using the attack more often, rapidly decreasing your scrap reserve. Sure, it’s worth it to consume a large amount of scrap and dive into the scuffle, but you’d better have a backup plan. How about leveling up, evolving and trading in Rock Smash for a stronger move?
Tumblr media
At Level 5, Tinkatin will evolve into Tinkatuff. At the same time, Rock Smash becomes either Brutal Swing or Play Rough.
Move 1a: Brutal Swing
The pokemon swings its club around in a wide circle, damaging enemies and shoving them away. Pieces of scrap are dropped on hit. If the enemies had a shield, more pieces of scrap are dropped. Picking up these pieces of scrap reduces the cooldown of this move by 0.5 seconds. 10s cooldown.
At Level 10, Brutal Swing becomes Brutal Swing+.
Enemies are shoved further away. If these enemies are thrown into walls or obstacles, they receive damage from the impact.
4 pieces of scrap are dropped on hit for each enemy. 8 pieces of scrap are dropped when an enemy with a shield is hit.
Only picking up scrap dropped by this move will decrease the cooldown of Brutal Swing.
Brutal Swing+ deals an additional 50% damage to enemies thrown into walls. This damage is also affected by Mold Breaker. However, scrap isn’t dropped from the impact.
The range doesn’t increase when Tinkatuff evolves into Tinkaton. Tinkatuff just throws all of herself into that swing.
With her brand new hammer, Tinkatuff squares up and delivers a mighty swing, hitting everything and everyone around her. She hits so hard, anyone unlucky enough to get rocked will be sent flying, leaving behind some nice scrap she can use.
This is where Tinkaton’s All-Rounder qualities come into play. By knocking away all enemies in range, she plays the hybrid role of a Defender, sending enemies away and splitting up the enemy, separating them from each other, and keeping them out from points of interest, like a choke point. Any pieces of scrap they drop is left at the point of impact, which makes it easy for Tinkatuff to walk over and collect.
These particular pieces of scrap are special, though, as picking them up reduces the cooldown of Brutal Swing. While it has an agonizingly long wait time of 10s, each piece of scrap reduces it by 0.5 seconds. Hitting even one unprotected enemy reduces the cooldown by 2 seconds total, effectively bringing the cooldown down to a more manageable 8 seconds. Hitting an enemy with a shield doubles the amount of scrap collected, reducing the cooldown afterwards to 6 seconds. Since any shield triggers the extra scrap being dropped, this move is best used to break the enemy’s foothold in their own Goal Zone, exposing them to the dangers of your teammates and creating distance for you.
With Mold Breaker, you make the enemy much more vulnerable to followup attacks from your teammates, as their shields are reduced and they have taken a huge chunk of damage from your Mold Breaker boosted attack. This move has the opposite problem of Metal Claw in that, with Mold Breaker, the attack becomes stronger with each use.
But as with everything, there is a catch. Because of how easy it is to generate scrap, you will be filling up your Score Pocket very easily, reducing the number of Aeos Orbs you can stash and score. You become a powerful All-Rounder with all of that scrap, but your scoring ability is reduced. Not to mention, the attack does little to improve your match-up against Ranged attackers. Brutal Swing’s range isn’t all that great, and sending enemies away reduces the effectiveness of your followup attacks. The worst part is that missing forces you to wait out the 10 seconds of cooldown, during which the ranged attackers on the enemy team will be slinging their moves at you with extreme prejudice. Sure, you still have Metal Claw at this point, which you can use to try and close the distance, but the dash range isn’t that great and it is still limited by your small Score Pocket.
All Brutal Swing+ does is further knock enemies away and deals extra damage to enemies sent into walls and obstacles. It’s a great upgrade, sure, but you’ll be stuck playing as a Defender until you evolve again.
Move 1b: Play Rough
Target an enemy and dash towards them. After dealing damage, the pokemon then knocks them away into the designated direction. If the enemy is thrown into another enemy, both will receive damage. Pieces of scrap are left behind after damage is dealt. 8.5s cooldown.
At Level 10, Play Rough becomes Play Rough+.
Expands the targeting range and increases the distance enemies are thrown.
When Play Rough throws an enemy into another enemy, both pokemon receive 50% extra damage and are stunned for 0.5 seconds. This extra damage is also affected by Mold Breaker.
The main attack deals damage in two parts. Upon contact with an enemy, damage is dealt. The followup attack that knocks enemies away deals the second hit. Both hits drop scrap, but any extra damage after this does not.
The enemy is stunned for the duration of the move after the first hit. However, the move will fail beyond the first hit if the enemy has any protection from hindrances.
Both Tinkatuff and Tinkaton perform the second hit by jumping into the air and swinging their clubs downward in a full circle. As the player chooses a direction, the pokemon’s direction shifts as well, providing visual to both teammates and enemies where the target will be sent flying to. In addition, a graphic marker at the targets’ feet will also be pointing in the player’s chosen direction.
Play Rough alleviates Tinkatuff’s problems with ranged attackers by granting her a sure hit move. When Tinkatuff’s got her eyes on an enemy, she rushes in, stuns them with a gut punch, then delivers some fancy aerobics to swing her hammer inward and send them flying. The attack hits them so hard, they are thrown a very far distance, and if another enemy happens to be in the way, both of them will receive some extra damage.
This move is extremely useful in managing the enemy’s position. Where Brutal Swing knocks all enemies from you, Play Rough let’s you choose an enemy to attack and where to throw them. If you have plenty of scrap, the enemy will be hit pretty hard and can be safely thrown towards a teammate to finish the job. If you’re low on scrap, however, you can knock them into another enemy to tack on damage on both targets. It generates a lot less scrap than Brutal Swing, though, and doesn’t come with any cooldown lowering effects, but the ability to reposition an enemy to suit you and your team is a great trade off. It also makes team fights easier to handle by targeting and removing a problematic enemy from the fight, such as a Decidueye or a Clefable.
It’s not a good a idea to use this move to dive into a fight when the entire enemy team is present. While you can temporarily incapacitate two enemies at most, the remaining 2 or 3 will make quick work of you with their combined moves and hindrances. It’s better to get in, deal damage, and get out, which further thins out their fortifications. Metal Claw can be used to greatly increase the range and followup damage with Play Rough, which can sometimes guarantee a KO on a frail Attacker.
Once you evolve, though, you’ll be playing a different game as your equipment also evolves.
Tumblr media
At Level 8, Tinkatuff will evolve into Tinkaton. At the same time, Metal Claw becomes either Gigaton Hammer or Heavy Slam.
Move 2a: Gigaton Hammer
The pokemon brings up its great hammer and then slams it down, dealing damage and releasing a small shock wave that stuns nearby enemies. Any Pokemon KOd by this move drops a lot of scrap. The pokemon is immune to hindrances while performing this move. All scrap is consumed to increase the power of this attack. 12.5s cooldown.
At Level 13, Gigaton Hammer becomes Gigaton Hammer+.
Greatly reduce damage received while using this move. Slightly increases the stun duration caused by the shock wave.
Each piece of scrap adds 3% extra damage to this move.
KOd enemies drop 10 pieces of scrap upon defeat. This only applies to enemies on the opposing team.
The hurtbox of the attack is much larger than the hammer’s surface area of impact. It is deceptively large.
It takes 0.75 seconds of windup for Tinkaton to perform this move. Afterwards, it takes 0.5 seconds for Tinkaton to move.
The shock wave stuns enemies for 0.7 seconds but doesn’t deal damage. Gigaton Hammer+ stuns enemies for 1.4 seconds.
Enemies are rendered immobile for 0.5 seconds when hit directly by the hammer.
Gigaton Hammer+ reduces damage received by 80%.
By mastering her craft, Tinkatuff evolves into Tinkaton, transforming herself and upgrading her hammer. She’s so proud of the work she’s out into her mighty sledge, she displays it proudly, forcing everyone to admire it. Why, she might even make you take a very good look at it, directly to the face.
While Tinkaton herself is barely over 2 feet tall, the hammer is much bigger, so it takes up more space than you would think. Even so, when she brings the hammer down, it hits hard and covers a wide area. It takes a bit of windup, but when Tinkaton swings, she aims to KO. It’s easier than you think to evade the attack, but the shock wave from the hammer coming down will stun enemies briefly, even though it does no damage. This slight stun effect barely gives Tinkaton enough time to followup with either Brutal Swing or Play Rough, and Gigaton Hammer+ gives her more time thanks to the increased stun.
However, having a giant hammer means you have to master using it too, and that’s evident by the eternal wait time of 12.5 seconds of cooldown. Hit or miss, you’ll just have to not miss, and it’s a big deal because Tinkaton uses up ALL of her scrap to add weight to the swing. So, not only is there a great wait time, but you would have to collect all of that scrap again to build up Mold Breaker’s power. The reward is worth it, though, as a Score Pocket full of scrap can increase the damage output to 300%!! Landing a successful KO with Gigaton Hammer drops a guaranteed 10 scrap, which is 1/4th/1/5th of the scrap you need to refill Mold Breaker. Should you manage to KO multiple enemies in one swing, the payout is enormous, especially if you had very little scrap when you started the fight.
The range is another downside, as Tinkaton needs enemies close by to deal damage to them with Gigaton Hammer. More often, you’ll be hitting enemies with only the shock wave unless you set up an ambush. You can lead with Play Rough to manipulate the target’s position, but Brutal Swing makes it easier to rebuild your reserve of scrap.
Either way, this big hammer makes frail Attackers and Speedsters look like nails.
Move 2b: Heavy Slam
The pokemon runs forward with its hammer raised and runs a short distance before bringing it down, damaging any enemy caught in the attack. On hit, enemies are stunned briefly. Using the attack before the move ends causes Tinkaton to bring the hammer down early, but the pokemon will not stop running. In this way, you can attack repeatedly until the move ends. The amount of scrap you have decreases when receiving damage while using this move, but damage is prevented in exchange. 7.5s cooldown.
At Level 13, Heavy Slam becomes Heavy Slam+.
Increases the amount of damage and stun dealt to enemies. Extends the distance traveled while attacking.
Each hit of damage received forces you to drop 5 pieces of scrap, no matter how weak the attack was. If you run out of scrap, you can be damaged.
You are resistant to hindrances while performing Heavy Slam. Some effects, like Unite Moves, can still stop you.
The attack doesn’t end until Tinkaton has traveled the full distance, even if you attack multiple times while running. The travel distance of this attack is slightly further than typical dash attacks. However, Tinkaton cannot dash through walls with this move.
Heavy Slam stuns enemies for 1.2 seconds when the attack lands at the end of the move. The hammer swings during the attack stun for 0.25 seconds.
Heavy Slam+ increases the damage dealt by 1.5x and the amount of stun dealt by 0.25 seconds.
Instead of raw power, Tinkaton uses dexterity and skill to swing her hammer around with Heavy Slam. In any given direction, Tinkaton will run in with her hammer raised upward like a maniac. When she has run the full distance, she brings it down, stunning all enemies unlucky enough to be in the way. If you’re feeling especially mashy, you can press the button repeatedly to have Tinkaton swing the hammer repeatedly until the move ends. These early swings deal less damage and stun than the final hit, but there’s no downside to it. Even if you need to cover a lot of distance real quick, feel free to level the floor on your way there like a Whack-a-mole World Record holder with PTSD (huh, that’s a new sentence...).
Heavy Slam uses scrap in a different way than Gigaton Hammer, as it is used defensively rather than offensively. When Tinkaton runs in, the scrap is lost in exchange for total protection from damage. This is an extremely powerful boon when engaging in team fights with dizzying amounts of crowd control, as it allows you to run in a bring order to the court with your gavel of justice and metal. Oh, I forgot to mention that Heavy Slam grants Tinkaton Hindrance Resistance while she’s using the move, same as Blastoise’s Rapid Spin. It doesn’t protect from all forms of hindrances (namely Unite Moves) but it gives her a lot of impunity to rush in and handle the enemy team. Stunning them in place with repeated hammer slams gives your team just enough breathing space to counterattack with annoying moves of their own.
This is the part where we cover the moves weaknesses and, yeah, there’s a few that aren’t immediately obvious. Firstly, each hit received causes you to lose 5 pieces of scrap, which isn’t much, but multi-hit moves like Glaceon’s Icicle Spear or Venusaur’s Petal Dance will quickly drain your scrap reserve, and that’s not even considering extreme cases like Charizard’s basic attack or Decidueye’s Razor Leaf boosted basic attacks. With a full Score Pocket, you can only block 10 hits before you’re all out, and then you’ll be left vulnerable for the rest of the fight, unable to block damage or even score. You’ll have to single out enemies capable of draining your scrap reserve before engaging the rest of the enemy team.
One other caveat is that Tinkaton runs in a straight line and doesn’t run fast enough. It’s easy for an enemy to sidestep you as you attack, giving them free reign to counter with any number of moves. Also, taking full advantage of the defensive properties of Heavy Slam means forfeiting the ability to score a lot of points, if any at all. With a handful of scrap, you’ll be alright taking on one or two enemies, but against an entire team is suicide. Even with a full reserve of scrap, it’s risky, especially since Heavy Slam grants Hindrance Resistance, not Hindrance Immunity.
The one advantage Heavy Slam has over Gigaton Hammer is the manageable cooldown time, and the relative ease your teammates will have in KOing enemies locked down by the stuns you inflict. As an All-Rounder, you can also dabble as a Defender or a Supporter with this move. It just depends on how well you apply yourself and your hammering skills.
Now stop. It’s hammer time.
Unite Move: Hole in One
The pokemon unearths a giant stone, then launches it at the designated area. The attack deals damage on landing and produces loads of scrap at the impact site.
Tinkaton brings the stone out by slamming the ground. This has a hurtbox and can damage enemies very close by.
You can aim as far as halfway over the entire map, just like Dragonite.
Instead of a marker, a slowly increasing shadow marks the eventual impact site. The size of the attack is smaller than Dragonite, but it deals much more damage.
15 pieces of scrap are produced when the rock lands.
There is a 1 in 400 chance that a Corviknight will also be struck out of the sky. It will fall and land somewhere near the impact site, with a visible ring of spinning stars around its head, but will then disappear in a puff of smoke. Corviknight is not a wild pokemon that can be caught during the match, so it doesn’t provide Aeos Energy, nor does it provide any EXP or extra scrap. It is solely a visual easter egg.
As if I could’ve made it’s Unite Move anything else. Tinkaton is notorious for launching rocks into the sky just to bully Corviknights, so of course it’s able to do this for it’s ultimate attack. Speaking of birds, there’s a 1 in 400 chance that a Corviknight gets knocked out of the sky from this attack, but it’s just an easter egg and doesn’t change the Unite Move in any way. The specific odds are a reference to Corviknight being one of the pokemon in the Paldean Pokedex out of 400 species that can be registered.
Speaking of the pokedex, it doesn’t state how big the rocks it launches at Corviknight are, so I opted for a modestly sized boulder. Where does Tinkaton get that boulder? From the ground, of course, and it does this by forcing it to erupt from the earth with a demanding slam of its hammer. This little slam does damage to nearby enemies and also makes it Unstoppable, but that will almost never happen because Tinkaton will most likely be aiming at enemies from the other side of the map.
In a similar vein to Dragonite, Tinkaton can aim as far as halfway across the map with this move. It doesn’t land at the designated area, but the rock it launches will produce loads of scrap it can pick up. I don’t know why the rock has scrap within it, but Tinkaton will need to approach the landing site anyway to capitalize on the chaos she has caused. The rock hits hard, harder than Dragonite’s Unite Move, but that’s because the area of impact is smaller. It’s harder to hit multiple enemies at once with this attack, but it’s easier to hide since the Unite Move doesn’t have a marker that shows where it’s gonna land. Just a little shadow that grows in size until the boulder lands.
Tinkaton doesn’t get a refund to her Unite Move meter should she aim the rock to land closer to her, unlike Dragonite. If she pops that rock, she’s gonna have to wait a while to reload. I don’t usually specify the charge rate of Unite Moves, but Tinkaton’s charge rate is on the slower side due to all the advantages it provides her. It’s annoying to aim blindly, so coordinate with your team for the best results.
Other than that, the massive load of scrap dropped at the impact site can be a great source of power if you manage your moves smartly. Using Gigaton Hammer then collecting the large cache lets you continue the fight with a greater advantage. Heavy Slam can be used indiscriminately with the reassuring pile of scrap nearby. Just be aware that any survivors will be ready for you should you miss a few enemies.
Tinkaton is a big hit, both literally, and metaphorically.
Holowear
Tinkaton doesn’t like anyone modifying her hammer, so any Holowear we can give her must not touch the weapon. Even though it’s holographic and completely superficial, she prefers her hammer the way it looks, the way she made it, which I can respect. That just means we have a lot more freedom in designing her main body wear.
Right off the bat (or should I say hammer) Tinkaton can wear the Smithy Style, giving her an apron with tools in the pockets, some gloves, and a large welder’s hood, permanently lifted up, of course. Then there’s Engineer Style, putting her in a safety helmet and electrician’s jumpsuit with some tools peeking out of the pockets. There’s also Sporty Style that gives her a bunnet (a Scottish hat), a white polo and a plaid skirt, as well as a golf bag strapped to her back. Lastly, there’s Warrior Style, giving Tinkaton a Viking hat with little wings on it, a pair of pauldrons, and a chain mail skirt. Tinkaton is a dedicated hammer girl, so any holowear must add to that rather than detract from it. You go, girl.
Strategy
At the start of the game, you will have to decide which lane you’re gonna take, and each comes with their own advantages and disadvantages. It should be noted that, due to the effects of her basic attack and Rock Smash, Tinkatink will always end the lane run with a large number of scrap, which gives it a head start should it gain enough EXP to learn Metal Claw soon after.
Starting with the obvious, Tinkaton can do good work if she calls the Central Lane first. Because of how tough the wild pokemon are, Tinkatink will have lots more scrap than points when she finally evolves into Tinkatuff. Having all of that scrap early on is a good thing, because it means you can abuse Metal Claw to great effect when you engage the enemy in either lane.
If you’re going in either the top or bottom lane, though, You’ll most likely have an excess of scrap but a fair number of points to score. All that scrap does help in fending off the enemy, especially since Rock Smash is a great attack to challenge the opposing team with a push. Even better, if you are running a stacking item like Attack Weight, having less points to score is a great boon for you. Just make sure you don’t get yourself KOd while doing it (like how I do it. I play terrible in the early game because of this...).
When you evolve, it becomes time to choose between Brutal Swing and Play Rough. If the enemy has Defenders or Supporters and you notice that they all like to huddle together, Brutal Swing is the best move choice, as it can easily threaten their composition and make team fights more dangerous for them. If there is an excess of Attackers and Speedsters and they have a variety of movement options to abuse, Play Rough will be the better choice, as it is a sure hit attack that you can use to trap and throw the enemy into a direction of your choosing. Hitting multiple enemies with Play Rough also weakens the opposing team overall, making it easier for you and your teammates to create an opening.
Playtime is over when Tinkatuff evolves into Tinkaton, and you have to make the choice between Gigaton Hammer or Heavy Slam. Gigaton Hammer consumes your entire reservoir of scrap for a huge damaging blow, but it requires proper timing to hit just right. Heavy Slam makes you a better team player by rushing in and smashing everything in front of you, rendering your enemies dizzy and vulnerable, especially in a team fight.
The main gimmick you have to master overall is Mold Breaker, as this can make or break your ability to win games. If you are too focused on scrap, you’ll limit your ability to score, forcing you to be constantly engaged with the enemy. If you try to stockpile Aeos Orbs in the hopes of making a big score, your offensive power is limited, as it reduces the effectiveness of your ability to break shields and deal damage. Not only that, your reduced power makes it more difficult for you to create an opening to score, leaving you stuck with a bloated Score Pocket until you score a goal or are KOd.
Maintaining the balance of having equal amounts of points and scrap is the key to playing Tinkaton really well, as going all in on either side should only be reserved for desperate situations. If there is a stalemate or your team is losing badly, stocking up on scrap might be the power boost you need to make a breakthrough. If you’re winning by a comfortable amount, you don’t need the power boost all that much, so you can build up Aeos Orbs for a big score, but you should be careful and watch out for surprise comebacks.
Tinkaton as a smithy is always striving for perfectionism, whether that be collecting scrap off of her fallen foes or stealing them from the environment. In Pokemon Unite, Tinkaton must balance that out by playing for the team, not just herself. In this, she fulfills her All-Rounder archetype by playing defense, backing up her teammates, augmenting her attack power, and creating a hammer sized opening for her and her teammates to exploit.
Bonk.

And that’s Tinkaton for Pokemon Unite! This draft was made sometime in December last year, so this pokemon is getting a post well before a bunch of other pokemon I have waiting forever in the drafts. But I think Tinkaton deserves it, especially since she has so many fans.
This post also means that I am no longer restricted to older gens for Pokemon Unite posts, but moves and abilities will be chosen at my own discretion. Not to worry though, every now and then I will check out the updated moves if it suits me.
Anyway, stay tuned for the next post. I know this one came out kind of quick (Boltund came out 3 days ago!!) but I’ll probably slow down a bit before making the next post. Even so, look forward to it!
