Re: the anon asking about roles in non-traumagenic systems: a system that formed without trauma can later experience it and develop things associated with trauma-formed systems. Or a consciously-formed pluran can have been made with a particular role in mind, or can decide to take one up. I've also seen systems of all origin and experiences inadvertently shoehorn members into "roles" after thinking all systems must be made of different roles

Adding to the last part about shoehorning, one thing I think is important to keep in mind is that roles tend to work best when viewed as things that describe headmates that can change as they do rather than something objective that your brain assigns them to be forever.

Even if a headmate is a created for a specific role, that role can always change as the headmate gains new experiences and evolves. I think the idea that every headmate is given a role by the brain and has to have one can be extremely harmful if taken to the extreme.

Hey.

If you, the person reading this, are a plural person without headmates - for whichever reason - I want you to know that I love you.

If you're in pain because of your plural experiences, I want you to know that I believe in you and I trust that, however long the journey may take to get there, you have what it takes to make it to a place where it feels better, and I want you to know that I hope you can believe that too. If you are not, I want you to know I am proud of you for making it this far and that I hope your joy is loud and relentless and infectious, that it surrounds you with friends who love you and need your light as much as you need theirs.

I want you to know that your experiences are real, no matter what words you use for them now, tomorrow, yesterday. I want you to know that your voice in our community matters. Plurality is and has always been so much more than having headmates, and I am sorry that so many in our community have failed you.

If you, the person reading this, do have headmates, or if you are a plural ally, I want you to think about these people when you talk about plurality. I want you to read what they are generous enough to share about their experiences and I want you to raise their voices and give them a place within our community. I want you to treat them with kindness and compassion and I want you to show them that they are real, that they matter, that they are loved, because all of these things are true. If you don't know what I'm talking about, find some reading about it, even if it's just on pluralpedia or reddit or right here on tumblr. Talk to these people, if they are looking to speak.

Introject makes us feel judged and dissected, fictive sounds like we're delusional; alter also has similar connotations of delusion - (alter ego, etc). Other than dropping the labels altogether, are there any words out there that arent clinical or sourced from psychology?

I'm surprised you associate "fictive" with delusions (makes me feel a bit weird about being a fictive myself), but putting that aside – since goodness knows we don't choose the associations we have with every word out there – I know some words that may help you:

Sysmates – a shortening of "system members." (Note that "system" has community roots, not clinical; the first use of the term "plural system" can be tracked to well before "system of parts" first came into print. I want to make this clear, as it's a common misconception.)

Others – a general term for all system members.

Members – a general term for all system members.

Facets – a general term for all system members; often used by median systems.

Plurans – a general term for all system members; sometimes used as a synonym for "plural" as a noun, so it may be mixed up with that meaning.

Headfriends – a general term for all system members.

Sourced headmates – a term for system members who have an external source or base (ex. those who could fall under introject, factive, fictive, etc).

Introtives – a term for system members who have an external source or base; a community led twist on the word "introject" with the -tive suffix from fictive and factive.

Traveler – a term for system members who have an external source or base; I assume this one has roots in gateway systems, based on the impression the term leaves.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps, anon!

They can be clearly separated (like in DID or OSDD-1b, called a multiple or partitionary system) or more blurry and fluid (like in median or OSDD-1a). "System member" and "pluran" are other common ways to refer to headmates.

i had a question so im a introjects and i would be classified as a fictive however the term makes me really uncomfy sinds in my eyes it inplays that what i experiaced in my source and that my source isnt real so i was wondering if it would be bad to call myself a factive or if there is a term that would fit better for what kind of introject i am / dabi

Hello, Dabi, thank you for the question.

You never have to force yourself to use a label you don't like. It's alright if a label technically describes you but makes you uncomfortable. I know many other folks like you who's uncomfortable with the term fictive because of the same reason. You're not alone, and your feelings are valid.

I don't think it's "bad" (i.e. inherently hurting others) to call yourself a factive. It may confuse others, but you can always explain your choice (though of course, you don't even have to be open about your chosen label, and you don't owe people an explanation, especially if you're not comfortable sharing).

You're allowed to use whatever term makes you comfortable.

Here are some suggestions:

Introject and fucktive/f-tive can be a good alternative, or (if applicable) soulbond or walk-in or alter, or simply a system member, headmate, or pluran.

Or you can do away with common plural labels and call yourself a more general term like person, creature, being, human, alterhuman, metahuman (and I'm sure I've missed countless others!)

Or go unlabeled.

I can't (and have no right to) choose a label for you, so you may need to try one or a few at a time to see what feels right. I do sincerely hope you can find a label (or no label at all) that feels good for you.

i had really good system communication for a while but since I've been on antipsychotics i can almost never hear my headmates or figure out who's fronting. does this mean my headmates were hallucinations the whole time? or can antipsychotics just disrupt communication like this? now i don't know if im even really a system anymore :/

Can't say for sure, but antipsychotics- along with a lot of drugs- can make communication more difficult for a lot of systems. Additionally, changes in the external world can change the internal layout, including the levels of communication, and going on antipsychotic medication can be a sign of significant external change. It may be temporary, it may not be. It's okay to take your time and figure it out.

Typically, distinguishing psychotic voices from system members is done in other ways than medication. A general rule of thumb is internal voices are more likely to be plurans, and external are more likely to be hallucinations, but there are exceptions.

#also even if your system is the result of psychosis #you can still call yourself plural if that benefits you #it's a different kind of plurality but it could be one if you think of it with that framework #psychosis #medication #drugs tw

We are a disordered system and we are anti-endo and anti-tulpa. Viewpoints :

you need trauma to form a system

tulpamancy is appropriation

endos need to stop using disordered system terms (system, alters, etc. you have other terms like plural, headmates, pluran, etc to describe yourselves. Stop using our terms.)

you cannot create alters at will

there is tons of science and studies backing up that endos are not possible and that systemhood can only be caused by childhood trauma and that a system begins to form between ages 6 and 9.

Studies have been done to try and prove nontraumagenic and nondisordered systems and so far, none have proved anything. They have been unable to find any evidence or proof on nontraumagenic systems or any other types of endos or nondisordered systems.

the only reason trauma is not listed in the DSM-5 for disordered systems is because you cannot do an ethical study on it. You cannot purposefully traumatize a young child for a study. This has been said many times before, yet endos and their supporters still try and use it as an argument.

endos are transabled and make a mockery of the disordered system community. They are almost always incredibly abusive and cruel and treat being a system like a joke.

every endo (medical professionals in general and those who specialize in disordered systems have also said and agreed to this) is either faking, is a disordered system, or has some other disorder that they are misinterpreting as multiplicity. Regardless, they need to seek help and figure out what is actually going on for both their safety and the safety of others

being a newcomer pluran in a plural system w a progressive disability where many things that other ppl consider normal fun activities are now physically impossible for any of you to do.......looking back on someone elses childhood tomfoolery and knowing ur never going to have those opportunities.....that shit hurted
