Confession: Instead of immediate marriage, I wish we could have a choosable going-steady option with an NPC that could lead to marriage. Maybe even a cheating option. I just want a little more realism in my game, lol

Headmate A is planning on proposing to Headmate B. Headmate B knows this, and is just waiting for A to do it so they can say yes.
Bonus points if A knows that B knows and is just having fun with it.

ok I’m not caught up yet, but from the moment I first watched it, I have not stopped thinking about that scene in Hell’s Paradise where they arrive on the island and notice all the different flowers in the forest looking so beautiful together, but then observe that all of these flowers do not belong together in the same place, and suddenly what we first saw as beautiful is now unnerving and chaotic.
And then I recently saw Annihilation which has an insanely similar scene where they arrive in the Shimmer and notice all the different flowers looking so beautiful together, but then Natalie Portman observes these flowers do not belong together on the same vine, and same deal: now we’re a little scared of them.
Although in HP the flowers are there (I assume) because of Tan, and in Annihilation they are there because they’ve been cancer-fied, in both stories, the chaos that began with unnatural beauty continues to unravel reality into more chaos until everyone involved is certain they’re in hell.
and frankly, I keep noticing that unnatural beauty/plurality everywhere in our society today, multiplying chaos with no end in sight

Where did you learn about Robyn's mom living like a mistress after marrying her husband? Reddit users repeat this all of the time, but never will say where their info is coming from.
A good chunk of the information comes from the book Robyn co-wrote with the other wives called "Becoming Sister Wives". She obviously doesn't frame her mom's second marriage as a mistress-style relationship, but just the way she describes it in even the best of terms is enough that you don't really need to read between the lines.
People have pieced together bits of conversations from the show over the years too, and while Robyn does change some details depending on the narrative she's trying to push at any given moment, some parts of the story are consistently the same. The fact that she grew up with her mom in a different state away from her stepdad and his first (and primary) family has been confirmed with other people besides Robyn, although she just sees it as him splitting time between two families from what I can tell.

what people don't realize about modern mormon fundamentalists is how many men are out there who are vocal about their mormon fundamentalist beliefs but are monogamously married or even sometimes completely single. temporarily embarrassed millionaire syndrome but for plural wives. nobody wants you.

Literally thinking of adding an extra chapter to fill in something and further expand on the relationships Yangchen has with other original characters mentioned in this one shot idea thing… but that can spoil things from other works I have planned 😭😭 this is so hard
I still need to find a title😭 that’s even harder
Edit: already started on a second chapter
Edit edit: I am now 1.5k words into the second chapter

The only thing against the idea of Ozai arranging a marriage i can think of is, and i know this topic is fraught, the Search, and what it confirms/elaborates on vis-a-vis Ozai’s marriage to Ursa. If we take those comics as an interpretation of “Bryke” collective intent, Ozai was forced into an arranged marriage with a woman he never met for the purposes of his dad‘s breeding project, and it fuckin sucks. She produces one kid that he thinks is pathetic, taunts him with infidelity, and basically sounds like an extremely stressful situation to live in, knowing you can’t divorce her bcz FatherLord said so. (Not that im callin Ozai the True Victim, just sayin how his POV might look). I dont know how much “empathy” people think Ozai possessed, or his tendency for consistency vs hypocrisy, but i do wonder if Ozai would not *want* to deal with the untrustworthy wildcard of an arranged spouse for his kid- especially given that his wife killed his own father. Does this make sense or am i off base here?
I've actually played with this concept! Specifically the ways Ozai would reconcile his own experience with an unhappy arranged marriage with his right/duty to arrange successful marriages for his child (or children, in the case Zuko became useful to him).
I mainly use the Fire Nation Royal Family as a source of complicated drama because i think that fits the dynamic best, so i'll try to trim this down to only context that completely matters. Everything below is from the headcanon-laden timeline I put together for my fan writings.
When Azula was still quite young, Azulon began to have doubts about the prophecy and after reviewing it and weighing his options, he decided the safest course of action was to keep that Avatar blood in the main bloodline another generation. He arranged for Lu Ten to marry Azula when she came of age (twenty-one years old in the Fire Nation, judging by The Search) unless a more suitable match could be arranged. Everyone was uncomfortable with this, even Ozai, who coped with the news by considering it to be the most favorable match Azula could hope for and that his own grandfather married a young cousin when he couldn't ignore his need for heirs.
Ursa was distraught at the news for the same reasons Ozai was annoyed: they weren't given the choice to refuse to give their daughter to the union, and, even if Ozai didn't want to admit it to himself, that she was going to be given to someone who outranked her, was older than her, and far more favored. You'd think this would make him reconsider the unequal relationship he has with his wife, but he continued to ignore her wishes and didn't stop touching her that night until she slapped him. Probably justifying himself with the idea that princes and princesses exist to make more princes and princesses
The general hope was that Azulon would die before Azula came of age and Iroh could decide what makes up more suitable matches. Naturally, you couldn't actually say that and the only back up was not telling Azula until she was old enough to understand and have Lu Ten be especially nice to her so the idea of being stuck with him until one of them dies wouldn't feel like a punishment.
Lu Ten dies long before Azula ever learns she was betrothed to him. The Firelord himself is found dead the next day and Ursa is nowhere to be found.
It isn't long before Ozai sets Azula up to be the princess her mother was not. It isn't long before she gets to have adult conversations with him; the kind of conversations Iroh would disapprove of if he wasn't in a state of constantly flipping between catatonic and blubbering mess over the death of his son (and father, one right after the other). Azula isn't like that, perhaps in part due to her inexperience with death, but also because her father expects more from her and her duty is fulfilling those expectations.
Ozai resents his father for many things, including the arranged marriage. He words this resentment toward the former Firelord incredibly delicately when discussing it with his daughter, but not his resentment toward his wife and the union that bound him to her. "Dissatisfying," he describes her, as well as "ungrateful, willful to the point of childishness." Rather than suggest to him that marriage is best as a partnership of equals, his experience seems to have taught him that it ought to be that one party is unquestioned and answered to and the other knows its place. He promises his daughter that she will be better off than he was, and the husband he chooses for her will be grateful for her, and he will fear her. Azula, as the ideal daughter and princess her father wants her to be, thanks him for the care he takes with her future and praises his wisdom.
A man presents himself, a smooth-talking social climber whose ambition is best kept in check and loyalty best kept enforced. He plays the simpering yesman well enough, but his reputation betrays him. Azula is still young, and prodigy though she is, she could use a bit of polishing, but in time, she will put fear in him. It's what her father taught her and what her father expects.

May we have a bullet list of what exactly has changed in the "Family AU"? I'm very intrigued to want to learn more 👀👀
Oooo okay so
We got Goldsmithshipping (Ray/Wu/Maya). They've been married since some time after the Serpentine War.
After Ray and Maya disappeared, Kai and Nya lived with Wu at the monastery. This was after Garmadon's banishment; he couldn't lose his brother, partners, and his children, too.... Kai and Nya don't grow up alone, but still miss their missing parents terribly.
I've taken the character of Lar from one of the books and turned him into my own thing. he's mine now <3 He is the youngest of the Smith siblings, and Wu is his biological father (though that's not something this family cares about much; no one is 'less' of anyone's parent or anything like that, and Ray and Wu love all three kids the same. Should hopefully be obvious, but I wanted to make that clear ^-^; )
HOWEVER, Wu, Kai and Nya don't know about Lar; Maya only found out she was pregnant just before Krux took her and Ray, and so he was born in the swamp.
Krux knew he wouldn't be able to use Kai and Nya as leverage over Ray and Maya for long before they with Wu (he made sure to come on a day Wu wasn't home, that would ruin his plans). He'd planned to keep up this false friendship to stay close to the children in case Ray and Maya disobeyed him or anything, but Maya pleading with him not to take her because she's pregnant and he "can't do this!" gave him the perfect thing to continue ensuring he held power over them.
Lar being there kinda makes the scene where Kai confronts Ray in S7 worse.
He comes with Ray and Maya too during the events of Seabound. He's not gonna miss a chance to help his big sister :)
Hmm I'm trying to think of what else is notably different... OH!
Kai and Nya likely knew Cole as kids; their parents were friends and Lilly was one of the only people Wu trusted enough to leave Kai and Nya with while he'd go and search for Ray and Maya. (Lou kinda distanced them both from everything when Lilly passed, and... Cole did not recognise Wu until he sees him with the now grown up Kai and Nya)
Misako has been there quite a bit for the ninja in the show, but she and Nya at least would be a lot closer, since they're neice and aunt after all.
The events of the pilots happen a bit differently too, mostly because Kai already knows the team, he had just not been too motivated in his training until Garmadon had Nya kidnapped.
Garmadon being his uncle, imo, makes the whole Kai distrusting him in S1 both kinda funny, and sad too
Kai and Nya are probably a little more personally invested in the events with the SOG; that's their uncle.
I can't really think of any other major changes, the plot pretty much stays the same... I do like to delve into how Krux's actions affected Ray, Maya and Lar though, and how they're recovering (or in Lar's case, adjusting to normal life).
......if I continue I'm just gonna ramble about Family AU forever 😅 I love it a lot. It used to be called Two Dads AU (im soooo creative with names lmao) back when it was just ray/maya (do they have a ship name??? steamshipping????) and ray/wu but then i thought, 'hey, y'know what.....'
There's also a kinda spinoff version of this au, Happy Family AU, where as little angst as possible happens, back with Kai, Nya and Lar as small kids. Morro and Zane are also there. THere's a basic rundown here.
Anything I post regarding to this AU is tagged 'family au'! It's probably my favourite of all the AUs I've come up with. Lots of angst, but also fluff and sweet moments, tense moments, angst.....

Prompt #460
"That's my wife!" Headmate A shouted with pride, as Person B waved to their cheering audience. As if on cue, their head exploded into repetitions of their shout, headmate after headmate passing it around with joy, until one of them got the bright idea of changing it to "That's our wife", which promptly became the hot new phrase to pass around. Headmate A laughed.
Pride for their wife and compersion with their system. What could be better than this?
