Before you deride anyone for being an "idiot", you should probably shit can the Meyers-Briggs pseudo-science in your description. You know, that way you don't look like an idiot who buys into that stuff.

Naaah, I still think that accusing a very anti-nationalist creator that created a very anti-nationalist movie FOR nationalism just because his movie used trademark brilliant Japanese nonverbal display instead of spelling stuff out like poorly written modern Western media IS pretty "idiotic". Waaaay more "idiotic" than MBTI stuff. 🌛 (retroactive, because I already did take my insult back several days ago)

I'll have you know that whereas MBTI is definitely not as binding and fails in what it tries to do (just like every attempt to strictly categorize people failed), it is actually SUPER handy to communicate a LOT of traits and patterns within a short abbreviation instead of a long essay! For example, people that know MBTI lore will read that I am ENTP and instantly expect me to be a lover of debates and "devil's advocate", be bad at talking about my feelings genuinely and sound hurtful without any intention to do so! If person chose to describe themselves with an MBTI label, it doesn't necessarily mean they are the type to take it super seriously, but often it is a way to communicate what to expect from their personality in a really compact form! Or at least what this person believes about themselves, which is also good for "communicating without communicating" :p Most people that have MBTI in their bio/pinned/whatever aren't as serious about it. Those that tried to choose friends/couple and form a collective according to MBTIs are long ago extinct, trust me!

I also found MBTI useful for some writing stuff. To define a type, you have to make 4 choices between 4 pairs of traits: 1) Introvert or Extrovert; self-explanatory 2) Sensory or iNtuitive; so, oriented more in "physical" reality and present or into past, thoughts and concepts 3) Thinking or Feeling; so, stronger at logic and thinking, or at empathy and tact? 4) Perceptive or Judging; so, an open-minded person that is okay with leaving loose ends or a person that needs clear distinction and final conclusion! Yeah they are very bare-bones descriptions and there is more to say about the 8 'letters', I am just cutting to the chase! I never passed MBTI test, I just figured which one of these aspects applied to me and it made ENTP abbreviation! Then I read the description of this type and could recognize a lot about myself. You can for example do that for a character you want to develop, get the abbreviation, then go read full description of this type and I guarantee you, there will be MANY things in the text making you go "damn this makes sooooo much sense for this character 👀" or otherwise inspire a vision of them!

I agree that people that get too caught up into MBTI stuff can be frustrating, and that accuracy of MBTIs is long ago debunked; again, no way to split humans into clear cut types works and we are all too different! Zodiac signs stuff is a similar problem. But, these things are good for communicating aspects of your personality quickly, for finding which sides of yourself to focus on and get "coherent shape" (very useful for my personality disorder ass!) and are good for WRITING! I've even found using MBTI descriptions as a help a good preventive measure from too much self-protection onto characters I am writing! You know same face syndrome issue in drawing? Sometimes the same problem is possible in writing personalities, MBTI is something that helped me to double-check whether I am doing this. Don't harshly discard a thing just because you haven't found an efficient way to utilize it! MBTI failed at what it intended to do but succeeded at being a good compilation of distinct traits and ways to think, act and react!

On the other hand, believing in anti-scientifical things is not necessarily a sign of being a judgemental, narrow-minded, "idiotic" person: a person is only an "idiot" when they make themselves be.

That being said, I don't blame you for being strictly negative? MBTI craze, Zodiacs stuff and similar things have history of really annoying people wasting their time and being weird about what they tell others but that's not my case. In my country MBTIs are in general 90% fandom of memes xd I might consider removing ENTP from my bio in the future if I estimate people are more likely to expect the worst (like you did) than take it for fun after that """science""" has fallen but I just dunno yet. But I'd appreciate if you didn't use harping on me for a mistake I already apologized for to express your disapproval of MBTI stuff 🌛 Not only it is cruel, but also even UNDER assumption that liking MBTI stuff makes me an "idiot" your logic doesn't work - why would doing one stupid thing remove my right to call out another, irrelevant (!!!) stupid thing? This is like saying that only "perfect" people are allowed to offer criticism and disapproval towards frustrating situations and I am not here for this sort of attitude. Someone can be competent in one area and be a complete moron in another area, does it mean they can't talk about what they're competent at anymore?

#elise's posts #SO many youtubers etc I like are promoting this shit #fyi for those who don't know it's a REALLY unethical business trying to take advantage of the mentally ill #and before you say 'but how else am I meant to find a therapist that does online sessions'#post-pandemic most therapists offer this #and if you want the whole 'I can text my therapist for therapy anytime 24/7' thing...#sorry I know it might sound useful but it's SUPER bad for both your own mental health and your therapist's #sorry but therapists are not meant to be there for you 24/7 #that's not their job and it's really unhelpful for YOU to become dependant on a 24/7 therapist #betterhelp do not vet their therapists thoroughly #and some people say they have been evangelised to on betterhelp by preachers who ask the algorithm to assign them queer and atheist clients #many reputable therapists state that it's a terrible business model promoting unhealthy practices to patients #it claims to be the cheapest option but it's more expensive than the most expensive therapist I've ever had (I'm in the UK)#and significantly more expensive than the cheapest who was still good and probably more qualified than some people on betterhelp #you pay extra for the middleman #(being allocated a therapist you didn't choose and vet yourself isn't great anyway imo surely you want agency in this huge decision?)#and I'm sorry but pride counselling is a branch of the same company #please just look for therapists that specialise in your needs through a regulatory model and get in touch with them directly #not all of them have waitlists and tbh if every therapist on betterhelp is available whenever what does that say about them

what the heck have i just read,,,

guys, there are a lot of similarities between all the members of the party. they all are outcasts of some kind, they all share some general traits (hence why they became friends in the first place), and they're all going through similar experiences as a result of their involvement with the upside down and all that.

but they're all unique individuals who all have their own struggles and character arcs and none of them exist purely to give depth to the other -_- parallels exist to add layers to certain aspects of the character's stories and the overall narrative, not to reduce an entire character's journey to those similarities and then proceed to ignore everything else about them. that is such a shallow way to consume the source material we all enjoy :|

it's okei to like certain characters more, and it's okei to point out all the little hints the duffs have left woven throughout the entire show to hint towards what's going to happen next with certain individuals and plot lines,,,

just don't reduce the entirety of one main character's existence to some very specific moments and traits in order to justify or enrich someone else's arc >:\

I didn't delete anything, anon. I did, however, limit my fics on AO3 to registered users so if you're logged out, they won't show. Log into your account and they will all be right where they have always been.

I explained why I did this here, but long story short, AI is ruining everyone's fun yet again. My hope is that this is a temporary measure and as soon as we get some kind of legislation protecting artists from their work being scraped without permission, I'll be able to make everything public again. Just a quick scan through the SPOP tags on ao3 reveal I'm far from the only person who's done this.

To avoid confusion, I have temporarily set a couple of old one shots and one ongoing fic back to public with a message about logging into see the rest. I strategically picked ones from each of my biggest series so hopefully that will catch the stragglers who missed my post so they understand what is going on.

Noone seemed to want, but I rembered, so i'm sharing it anyways

I made a fakemon based off of a spotlight, and... a firefly!!!

The first evo (down there v) is called Spotterfly!!

(left is regular, right is shiny)

Spotterfly- the Spotlight Pokemon A bug type

Spotterfly is an energetic bug, which is commonly spotted at nighttime, but can appear during the day as well. Spotterflies normally stick together, using their glowing abdomen to light things up, similar to that of a spotlight. These small bugs can be very loyal, whether it is to one another, or to their trainer.

Then, there's the second evolution, Firerina!!

(again, left regular, right shiny)

Firerina - the Ballerina Pokemon A bug type

Firerina, unlike its first evolution, is more shy, and prefers to stay alone. Firerinas stick to more isolated places, in which they practice, wanting to perfect their dance. Firerinas mainly stick to the ground, very rarely using their wings, unless needed. Firerina, despite shy, can grow a bond with someone it trusts a lot, though it's pretty unlikely for it to be able to trust someone, especially when practicing.

Finally, the final evolution: Dancelite!!

Dancelite - the Dancer Pokemon

A bug/electric type

Dancelite is a proud dancer, and a bit of a show-off. Dancelite show off their dancing for anyone to see, and are normally followed by a group of Spotterflies, with the spotlight all on themself. Dancelite sometimes uses its wings in its dances, either to hover for moments during its dance, or just for show and fashion. Dancelites try to keep their appearance nice, to attract an audience to watch it perform. Although, if the audience isn't paying full attention to it, the Dancelite can and will grow very, very jealous.

and now a spelling of how each name is pronounced (warning: I'm bad at spelling pronunctiations, so sorry if it doesn't help...)

Spotterfly: Spaht-turr-fly

Firerina: Fi-yer-ree-nah

Dancelite: Dan-ceh-lite

And now an attempt at heights (warning: I'm also bad at heights, so it's probably gonna be comparison heights, instead of numbers..)

Spotterfly: probably the height from your ankle to... half your shin?

Firerina: average toddler height, probably the height of a 3 yo

Dancelite: probably a bit taller than Cinderace (idk how tall Cinderace is, but I searched & got 4''something, so definitely taller than 4 feet at least)

but yeah that's that!!!
