I love how in most fics with stobin, Robin is either completely grossed out by Steve’s sex life, or they are both so horrible invasive and truthful with each other that Steve and Robin have no problem talking about sex. Both bring me joy. I love these platonic soulmates.

I’m writing a stobin platonic soulmates au so I thought I’d share some headcannons I came up with for things I believe Steve and Robin did pre season four to cement their friendship.
Steve cut Robins hair because she was going through a mental freak out about how she felt like an entirely different person now and she wanted to reflect that before school started, so she tried to do it herself cause shes broke and Steve who cuts his own did it for her.
Decided to watch all the horror movies in family video to see if their was any survival tips they could glean from watching and ended up comforting each other through triggering parts and laughing at other things together because a lot of this looks fake now in comparison.
Took the kids to the arcade and went in cause it was to cold to sit in the car and they hadn’t got their jobs at family video yet. They ended up getting into a really long and really competitive game of air hockey that gathered a crowd because they both were to competitive to give up. Robin used the angles strategy, Steve used jock reflexes. He won the first game, now they go after work some nights and have rematches. They are currently tied.
Speaking of family video, I feel like they did the applications together and Robin corrected Steve a lot on things I forgot to put down, or fixed his wording to sell himself more because he has things like: played basketball, and not “was captain and therefore have leadership skills cmon Steve.” They also broke into Steve’s dads office to write them and used a lot of his fancy paper.
Came up with a joint backstory for Ericas Dnd campaign where they are twins. Robin is really good at the roleplay and Steve gets really good roles. When Robins character died and she gave a speech both Dustin and Steve cried and since then he’s tried to convince her to run off to Hollywood to be an actress so he can be her trophy husband and Robin rolls her eyes at him.
Got one of those two ring joint floaties and sat in Steve’s pool to help him with his fear of his backyard. They started talking about their biggest fears together and it helps.
Robin gets Steve to come to hippy Christmas but he’s to scared to show up empty handed so they both try to make a bunch of Christmas cookies but they keep getting distracted and some of them are burnt. Robin hides it with icing. Her parents love Steve after that.
Steve comes out to Robin when they both go to a party together, get wasted and end up hungover and puking together in the bathroom. He said it was cause it brought back memories.
Robin doesn’t have a lot of money come Christmas so she goes thrifting and upgrades an old bomber to make Steve something like a letterman since she’s noticed he’s uncomfortable wearing his own. He cries because it’s the first time someone has ever made him a present before.
Steve accidentally overhears people talking about queer stuff and spur of the moment drives himself to Indy and finds the bookstore they were talking about and buys Robin any book the cashier recommends. She hides them in Steve’s house and reads them religiously.
They have a plan to go to a gay bar during Spring Break. They would have went before then but Robin didn’t have a fake ID and Steve had to get in contact with his old crowd to get her one.
They legit have a plan to get Married once Robin graduates, but she wants to come out to the kids first so there’s no misunderstandings, they both just want the security and the safety what a lavender marriage could do for them and have very detailed plans on how to arrange elaborate affairs while doing this. In contrast their wedding plan is either a courthouse or if Will gets to them Vegas.
Robin encourages Steve’s inner mean girl. She also is mean and they both have a very cutting commentary on half of the family video clientele. When Erica comes by she joins in. She is also holding them to the free ice cream bet so they both have a swear jar they both contribute to as an Erica ice cream fund. It was Robins idea.
Robin actually can drive and she does drive at night on backroads in Steve’s car when the kids aren’t there. Steve thinks it’s a cool little chilling out ritual, he’s literally horrified to hear she doesn’t have a license and that’s why she doesn’t drive in the day or with the kids.
Steve brings Robin to babysit the kids a lot and she complains for a bit until Mike says she’s like the cool dad and Steve’s the weird overbearing mom. Steve makes a joke about Karen that is so cutting Robin chokes on her drink but she doesn’t complain after that.
Half of the marching band, Kieth and the some of the kids (Dustin, Mike and Will) think they are legit dating, when they are asked they both make gross sounds and pretend to puke but five minutes later they will be sitting on top of each other.
They are banned from being on the same team during charades because the second Steve stood up and made a single gesture Robin got the answer. The kids thought it was a fluke at first then Robin stood up and Steve did the same damn thing. Dustin is convinced the Russians gave them mind powers.
They have a lot of sleepovers. At Steve’s, Robin sneaks in around the back and uses a key she copied and never told Steve about, he genuinely believes she’s breaking in and is impressed by it. Steve climbs in her window and hides under her bed when her parents come in.
So much more but that’s about the gist of it. They just love each other dearly and mean a lot to me!!! They are best friends forever I swear!!

I have this image in my head, its making my heart melt and I kind of just really want to try and use my words to paint it out for everyone here (: BUT MORE WAYNE CONTENT
The diner is small, nothing much compared to the numerous ones that kept popping up around Hawkins with fancy tables and new, sparkling everything. Munson’s diner has gone through a lot over the years, everything but bankruptcy. Which had been the shark to every other place in town. How Wayne Munson kept everything a float was a secret amongst the town. Some rumored that he took money out from under the table, which has happened before with a restaurant that used to be on the corner of Main Street and South Ave. When Wayne suddenly started to carry a toddler around on his hip, seemingly appearing out of no where with the hugest brown eyes known to man everyone in the area knew that the clock was starting to tick down to the inevitable. When the closed sign wouldn’t flip to the open side ever again. So, like the crazed people they were they started to show up in crowds. Feeling as if they had limited time to get Wayne Munson’s famous pancakes. What they didn’t expect, was for the place to stay a float for another a decade. Once the realization dawned on them that Wayne Munson wasn’t going to give into anything, everyone relaxed a bit. Though crowds still came in for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Breakfast, on most days it was normally just Wayne and his nephew running the floor. Only for Eddie to leave after eight knowing he couldn’t push being any more late for school away. Thing was, everyone loved the boy. Pretty much watched him grow up in the small beat up place. You didn’t get the true Munson Diner experience without Eddie Munson’s bright beaming smile coming towards your table to drop off a plate full of French fries. Playfully whispering to some of the regulars that he gave them a little extra. Tips had always came in for Wayne, a shy older man who would much rather stay in the grill area. Normally hiring a waitress or waiter to handle the people. But the second Eddie learned how to walk, talk and better yet carry five plates at once the tip jar was normally over flowing by the end of the day. Not counting what some customers snuck into Eddie’s pocket while running around. Wayne spent almost all day at the diner working, but it was something he enjoyed. On his days off he would still make sure to drop in and make sure that his employees didn’t need help.
With all of this knowledge, Wayne Munson is hurt. Devastated even when the whole town turns on his boy. Eggs his diner, destroys his property, and makes everything unrecognizable. His dream job and favorite human in the entire world was crushed all in one night. Later on he would have to sit on the side of a hospital bed, gripping onto Eddie’s hand to make sure that he knew that it wasn’t his fault that his business went under. Accepting that things weren’t going to be the same ever again, wayne starts to pack up the mugs that were on dozens of shelf’s wrapping around the small diner. Firing everyone that worked there, cleaning the tables, mopping, dusting, pretty much anything he could think of to make sure the place was sold. It had only been forty eight hours since Chrissy Cunningham died in his trailer, he had been the one to call the police when he walked in and found the poor girl. He had expected some trouble, what he didn’t expect was for everyone to turn against the Munson name. Thankfully he had enough money saved up to hold him over a bit before he had to get a new job and he took what he considers the most horrible vacation he’s ever had.
When his boy is finally found, barely alive he was almost the first person to see him out from surgery. Possibly a close tenth with the amount of people in the room checking in on him. Some of them weren’t even in the state when everything went down, nor did they ever actually talk to his boy. But Wayne recognized each face behind their orders. Doesn’t know any name, only associates them with their regular dish of food. Eleven was waffles, Robin was strawberries, Dustin was toothless and so on and on. Even though Wayne didn’t have much hope with this town ever accepting them again, shockingly it happens fast. When the whole town started to crave their favorite dishes. The diner hadn’t been sold yet, there were no workers to help out and there was no way Wayne was going to be able to pull this off. What the town was afraid of happening, was currently happening and it was all of their fault. For the numerous time that year he is shocked when Eddies friends start to show up to help.
Argyle, a boy who moved from California to stay with Jonathan and the Byers was one of the easiest hires of his life. He walked in with no resume, just himself. Answered every question easily, explained that he did smoke but that didn’t stop him from being a good worker. If Wayne truly thought he couldn’t do it then he could cut back if needed. Which strangely, isn’t ever needed. The kid was hard working and Wayne quickly makes note to force Eddie to make friends with him. Though the problem was getting everything situated. Which everyone did help do, getting the place looking better then what it had in years. It drained his bank account but it was worth buying more stock and getting the place situated. Then there was Robin Buckley. Who came connected at the hip with Steve Harrington. Both of them wide eyed and willing to do anything. Which meant they ended up not only just as waiters but janitors as well. Neither of them complained all that much and with their past experiences with scoops ahoy they lightened the place up. So far, the Munson diner has added pizza and even more ice cream to the menu which strangely brought more of a following to the place. The next couple of hires didn’t even happen properly, they just started to come in and started to work without even caring about being paid. Just wanting to be with their friends and hanging out with out being nuance’s.
El and her brother Will weren’t necessarily workers there, but they helped decorate the spaces on the walls. Will making a huge painting of the whole group standing in front of the diner together. When closing came around El would clean the whole place with out much thought. Moving the broom around in the back as she helped wiped tables down. It was strange watching things floating around but Wayne didn’t mind. Another easy choice to add to the growing group of employees was Nancy Wheeler. Who helped get the ads into the newspapers and on occasion helped Wayne with finances. She kept doing it for free which bothered the man a bit but she refused to take a dime for it. Lucas and Max were also two that came connected at the hip. When Steve and Robin weren’t working they took their place. Both equally hard workers, with a few health problems from Max. With all of these employees Wayne wasn’t sure if he was able to pay all of them. Which didn’t seem to become a issue with the amount of guilt money coming in from the town, and the way the younger kids were happy with just getting free meals if he couldn’t afford it some weeks.
All of this happened within a span of a month, so when Eddie was finally able to come back he was greeted by a very different diner. He came back a little scared up and very different, a little sassy with some of the customers who had made it their mission to destroy his life. Though if Wayne didn’t see it with his own eyes he would have never believed it. Most shifts were made by everyone together, and without failure Steve was somehow always there on Eddie’s shifts. Smiling and cleaning up a mess a younger kid made, or helping run the floor when to many customers started to come in at once. At first, Wayne noticed how tense Eddie was around Steve. There was some level of trust between the two, that he could see. Though after a late night working, Eddie had slipped up around Wayne and admitted that he sort of shamelessly flirted with the other while on the run because he didn’t think he was going to make it out alive. That information broke Wayne in a way that he can’t even describe. After that he kept a closer eye on Steve, but the kid didn’t even care all that much about who the fuck Eddie dated. Robin Buckley was living proof of that. Though it was hidden very well to anyone who didn’t have a open eye or had no experience with a gay individual, to Wayne there were some signs.
The way Robin would constantly be at Eddie’s hip when he was around. Playing with the pins on her vest as she rambled on about something only his boy could understand. Steve was typically off to the corner washing a table or taking care of a customer. A few of the conversations that he would hear buzzing closer to his ears were the same ones he had with Eddie before he found friends with Robin. The ones talking about current events happening with the community. That and one night, when the two went to take garbage out forgetting all but one bag which Wayne had grabbed to help out he ran into a moment. With Robin freaking out about some girl with her hands flying, freezing mid frame while Eddie doesn’t react to his uncle. Thanking him and tossing it in the bin as Wayne snorts. “Sounds like you might have to woo the girl with one of those milkshakes of yours.” He says calmly as he leans against the door. Wanting to keep a closer eye on the two when they were out in the dark. Not trusting the people of the town.
“See! I told you Wayne would be more helpful then me, or Steve!” Eddie says throwing his hands up in the air. Rings glistening from the lights as he moves to pull out a cigarette. Earning a punch in his shoulder and a grumble of, “just because you want to die from lung cancer doesn’t mean I want to die from second hand smoke, that is a thing you know. My voice is already raspy enough Eddie, see what friend you are.” Earning a cackle from Wayne who shakes his head pulling out a stick of gum as he chews gently, letting the flavor melt into his mouth as he listens to the conversation. Not bothering either of them until Eddie steers the conversation back to Wayne for girl advice. Who only listens to the girls ramblings with a soft smile, watching her wave her hands in a similar way to Eddie’s. Who was currently standing a ridiculously far length from the two of them, so smoke doesn’t get anywhere near poor Robins lungs. Now, Wayne wasn’t much of a love expert but it seemed like his advice was being memorized and written into a book of things to do and not to do. The conversation would have gone on longer, but the alarm on his watch starts to go off and he signals both of them to come in and finish up.
Closing up he prepares to drive Robin and Eddie home but there Steve Harrington sat in his car waiting patiently, windows down and cigarette in is left hand out the window. Watching with amusement, Robins nose scrunches up as she starts to throw another fit. Everything starts to align more after that as Eddie tugs playfully on Wayne’s jacket as he moves walking backwards with a huge grin on his face to Steve’s car. “I’m going to Steve’s tonight, forgot to tell you.” He hums gently as Robin backs away from the car. Waving the smoke away as Steve laughs gently at something she says. Before he’s putting the stick out. Moving and hopping out of the car to give her a hug, in which she refuses because he stinks. Eddies laughing as he moves taking in the moment to steal a hug. Moving and nearly tackling the other from behind with one of his Munson hugs. Steve’s bending forward in response as the others nearly on his back. Whispering something in his ear as Steve grows shy. Wayne shakes his head as he unlocks his truck door, hearing Robin gagging and quickly running towards him for safe haven.
“If you don’t mind, Mr. Munson I would much rather drive with you.” She shudders as she looks at the two with fake disgust. Wayne shakes his head amused letting her in as he waves at his boy. Watching the way he beams from Harrington’s passenger. Catching all of the tell tales of a blooming romance.
“Do you think If I borrow a shot gun from a friend, that would scare the shit out of Steve?” Wayne mumbles over to Robin. Who laughs, throwing her head back a little clapping her hands a bit.
“Can I borrow it after you to scare the shit out of Eddie?” She giggles as Wayne laughs gently turning the engine on. Letting the boys leave first, following shortly after as he leaves the parking space.
“I’ll do you one better, I’ll teach you how to use it.” Wayne jokes playfully as he playfully winks at her, “might impress that gal you’re talking to.” He teases watching the way Robins face grows pink. Eyes flickering from her face to the Munson diner. That once again has gone through everything. And if he had his way, it will be standing there many years after he is gone. With the kids he’s got around, he’s sure it will be there for much longer then what he had hoped for. Now unlike other places, Munson Diner was a home to all.

Steve’s fascination with makeup started as a kid. Back before his mum became as distant as his dad had always been, she’d allowed him to sit next to her as she did her makeup. He’d watched with wide eyes and asked her what each thing was and what she was doing. She’d explained patiently while expertly applying eyeshadow and lipstick and blush.
She even let Steve try to do her makeup one time. It involved a lot of giggling on Steve’s end and a very messy face of makeup on his mum's. She’d smiled and ruffled his hair, telling him he did a good job.
As Steve grew older, the simple pleasure of watching his mum's makeup routine became less and less frequent. His mum increasingly denied him, though always with gentle words and kind hands. Steve didn't understand. Not until he heard his parents arguing, his dad lowly hissing about Steve becoming the 'right type of man'.
Steve royally fucked up a few weeks later when he was caught by his dad, lipstick in hand, his messy attempt smudged on his face. His dad had grabbed him by the wrist, screaming at him as he dragged Steve into the living room. Steve learnt fast after that.
He doesn’t even think about touching makeup again until he’s dating Nancy. Steve carefully watches her apply her makeup out of the corner of his eye, pretending to not be interested. She never seems to notice him looking, so he continues. He watches through their whole relationship, never saying a word. He’s not sure he could, even if he wanted to.
Steve’s friendship with Robin brings makeup back into his life in an almost all-consuming way. They spend a huge amount of time together, and Steve has ample opportunities to watch Robin do her makeup. In the car when he's driving her to school, as she fixes her makeup before she joins him at work after school, in his bathroom as she leans over the basin. He can't help but watch her in a similar way to when he was with Nancy, with fleeting looks and hidden longing.
Steve's not dumb. He knows that Robin would never give him shit for wanting to watch her routine. They both regard each other as platonic soulmates, and she isn't the kind of person to make fun of Steve for something he's unsure about. But he can't help but continue to hide his fascination and the strange urge he feels to try using the makeup himself.
So Steve's careful. Only allows himself glances and never asks Robin questions, no matter how much he wants to. He remembers small bits of what his mum had told him as a kid, but it's not enough. He wants to know more.
Steve's not careful enough. He knew Robin would catch on eventually. She's observant and smart. Smarter than him. They're lounging around on Steve's couch one night, the TV playing softly in the background, when Robin asks. She says it in that soft yet stilted way when she's broaching a topic that might make Steve uncomfortable. He'd hated that she'd felt the need to do it after their bathroom confessions. He thought they'd established that he wasn't the same asshole he was in high school. Steve had been so close to bringing it up with Robin, but he slowly heard the tone less and less. Robin only uses it now when she knows, somehow, that Steve's uncomfortable.
He kinda hates that she used it now, too aware that it does make him uncomfortable, though he wishes it didn't. Steve swallows hard, pushing down the irrational uncertainty, and, through stutters and quiet words, he tells Robin the truth.
There are more than a few tears and a lot of Robin comforting him, explaining things to him, just like she did when he broke down in her arms about liking guys too. She's his rock in his sea of emotions, and he loves her for it.
The next morning, Robin softly asks if he'd like his makeup done. He nods, probably a little too eagerly, but it makes a smile light up Robin's face, so the tiny amount of embarrassment he feels is more than worth it. He sits still and enjoys the feeling of brushes and Robin's fingers on his face. Just closes his eyes for the whole process and enjoys the warmth sitting in his chest.
When she tells him to open his eyes, Steve goes still. He can't help it. He just looks so...good? Pretty, his mind supplies. Steve just blinks at his reflection, surprised he doesn't hate it. He must be quiet for too long, though, because Robin nudges him, tentatively saying his name.
Steve looks at himself for a moment longer before turning to Robin. He bites his lip, trying and failing to hide the grin growing on his face.
"I love it."
brb gotta go speed write a fic about this now

It’s a pet peeve of mine in modern fics where everyone but Steve knows who Corroded Coffin is. You mean to tell me Robin conjoined at the hip, shares one brain cell with Steve Buckley knows but her soulmate doesn’t? Those idiots share one singular spotify account with said-account titled “steviexrobbie” because they are broke idiots who are too codependent. They have identical taste in music. Steve listens to Robin’s big band numbers with the same enthusiasm as she has for his bubblegum pop. They would both not know who the fuck that band is.

Okay here's another one! (Steddie Parallels to Lumax in season 2 after the party finally manage to convince Steve to join a Hellfire campaign. This parallel comes from the scenes where the party (Mike) continuously ostracize Max from joining their gang despite claiming they want her to join) TW: This ones kinda angsty....might do a part 2 ;)
Despite all of his complaints and utmost refusals to ever actually play Dustin's nerdy Dungeons and Dragons game, Steve was, much to his own disbelief, pleasantly surprised when the Dungeon Master/newly cleared Eddie Munson 'formally invited' him to tag along for their next session.
Steve liked to believe that he and Eddie had become good friends ever since the whole Vecna/End of the world thing. They hung out pretty often now that he and his uncle had been given a new place to live as a sorta 'Sorry your town tried to hunt you for sport after accusing you of mass murder/keep your mouth shut if you know what's good for you', kind of deal. It had been a tad awkward to be around eachother with nobody else the first couple of times yet as the weeks went by, Steve was about as comfortable opening up to the guy as he was to Robin. Almost. Robin would always be his number one. But if Eddie had shown him anything over the last few months or so since the first time he came over to his place, it was that he would never look down on anybody for being different. Hence why Steve found it easy to be so vulnerable with him. Eddie was a damn good listener and while not exactly one for giving advice, he always seemed to know how to make him feel calmer. Steve would try to do the same, resulting in a pretty solid bond between the two polar opposites. That label reminding Steve of the phrase 'Opposites attract' which after many long insightful conversations with Robin led Steve to believing that it was true. It wasnt as though he wasnt aware that what he felt for Eddie was a little more than a normal friendship and he knew what being attracted to another person felt like. Hell, Eddie wasnt even the first guy he'd had a crush on. Yet there was never another guy in Steve's life that had ever made him feel so accepted that he allowed attraction to develop into a full blown crush. He liked Eddie. He really did.
So when Eddie invited him to tag along for his latest campaign, not the first since he was released from the hospital but the first since Will and El had officially moved back to Hawkins, Steve found himself actually wanting to go. It sounded like fun with everyone being there. Yet the meaning behind the word 'everyone' suddenly made him hesitate. Everyone would involve not only the kids, himself, Robin, Johnathan, Nancy and Argyle. It also meant that the rest of the Hellfire club, Eddie's friends would also be there too. And it didn't take a genius to work out that they wouldn't really be happy with former jock King Steve hanging out with the nerds, if Eddie had told them at all. Why else would he have refused back before Spring break when Dustin called him asking him to sub for Lucas? Well....aside from the fact that there was no way he was missing Lucas's championship game after all the practice they'd put in during the semester. He was damn proud of that kid. And he wanted to show him that he supported him. He'd been so invested that he'd hardly said two words to his date all night.
Eddie had told him that he didn't have to play, that he was fine to sit with Robin and the rest of the crew and watch. They'd been playing in the Wheeler's basement since the club had been banned from the school, hence why Nancy was there to greet him when he knocked on the door with Robin at his side. Her sunny smile at the sight of him did alot to warm the chill of his anxiety.
That was another thing that he couldn't regret about what happened over spring break. Following their first bout with Vecna, he and Nancy finally had the chance to properly talk about what happened between them and while he may have regretted coming on as strong as he did, nothing would make him regret the friendship he had with her now. If anything they were closer to eachother now than when they were dating. It felt good to be allowed to love her again, even if it was a different kind of love than before. She had also apologised for the way things ended between them and she had grown alot since then. Steve had tried to tell her she didn't need to apologise, which Nancy had fiercely disagreed with, telling him that no matter what she was going through he never deserved to be treated like that. At the time Steve hadn't felt like there was anything to forgive, but she had looked so relieved when he told her he did. It had made him think alot about who he used to be, how much he had suffered as a result, how much he felt like he deserved most of it. But as Nancy, Eddie and Robin, most of the group would vehemently remind him, they saw him as a good person deserving of good things. Steve was really trying to believe that himself.
Nancy led them down to the basement, laughing lightly at something he said on the way down before he was faced with the rest of the group. Everyone else was already there. Dustin, Lucas, Will and El all rushing to give him a hug while Mike as someone not overly keen on physical affection gave him a half smile and wave. Max greeted him from the corner where she was sitting in her wheelchair, gesturing for him and Robin to come and sit on the empty seats on either side of her. Steve smiled impossibly wide as he and Robin followed the redhead's orders, forgetting for all of a few seconds why he was so worried. Then that chill in his spine returned with a vengeance when his eyes landed on the no so concealed glares Eddie's friends were casting his way whilst the man himself seemed blissfully unaware, shooting Steve a soft smile that Robin had not so helpfully dubbed as his Steve smile. It put him a little more at ease in any case as he smiled back. Within the next few minutes the campaign began, prompting Eddie to slide right into his alter ego of Dungeon Master Extraordinaire.
It didn't escape his notice when he caught one of them, Gareth? He'd never really actually met any of them before tonight but he'd heard Eddie talk about them plenty. Anyhow, Steve watched as the younger teen's eyes remained fixed on him as he leaned over to his friend sitting next to him, Steve knew his name was Jeff, to whisper something in his ear. The other boy's eyes flickered back to him for a millisecond before looking away and releasing a snicker. Steve's anxiety came crashing down on him once more, worsening the longer the game continued as the rest of the group seemed fully invested in their game. Their other friend, Steve was sure his name was Grant, was sitting the second closest to Eddie with Will being the only one between the two. Steve wasnt sure how much time had passed since he realised that the three had been whispering to eachother and sniggering about him, but just before the club decided to stop for a break, Grant muttered something towards the other two boys. Steve obviously couldn't hear it being as far away as he was, but it seemed that whatever it was Will had caught the jist of it if the look of surprise followed by the guilty look he sent towards Steve was anything to go by. Ever the one to keep a close eye on his brother, Johnathan seemed to notice Will's sudden change in demeanor too, turning a suspicious glance to the Hellfire boys before looking back to Will, the two seeming to have a silent conversation with eachother from across the room. Steve tried to wave it off with a smile when Will looked back at him but the upset frown remained fixed on the boy's face. It looked as though El had also caught on that something was wrong, looking at her brother curiously as though she was trying to read his mind.
It set off a chain reaction with the rest of the kids as Max and Mike noticed something was wrong with El, causing Lucas to notice Max, and Erica and Dustin catching on to the tension that had made it's way into the room. The moment Eddie called for a break, it appeared as though he had also noticed their seven youngest members weren't really paying a great deal of attention. Will practically leapt to his feet claiming he was going to grab something to drink. El was quick to follow after him with Mike in tow. Johnathan paused for a moment before following them as well. Steve's stomach clenched with the realisation that Will was likely going to tell them both what he'd heard. Argyle seemed to take Jonathan's absence as a reason to come and take Robin's chair as she excused herself to go upstairs and get a drink with Nancy. Steve tried to listen to whatever it was the man was saying, he really did though he was clearly already high enough for him and Johnathan as he continued saying whatever was on his mind. Steve could still feel the three pairs of eyes still burning into his skull as he continued to ignore them. They didn't like him. Whatever. They didn't need to act like children about it. The better question on Steve's mind was how the hell Eddie hadn't noticed what they were doing. Should he say something? Maybe go over and break the ice. Let them know he wanted to make an effort to know Eddie's friends. That he wasn't the same person he used to be, if he was ever really that person.
"So, Stevie. How are you enjoying your first encounter into the satanic nightmare that is DnD?" Eddie piped up startling the man in question.
It was sat that moment that Steve realised he hadn't said a word since they had started. His mind drew a blank at the question, not anticipating for anyone here to actually talk to him until the had to drop them off at home. He knew first hand how seriously his children took this game.
Shit. Eddie was still waiting for an answer.
"Its good." He replied a little too quickly. "I-Its really cool."
Not his most eloquent response, he knew. But still, who could blame him for not paying attention when the force of the stares he was receiving was making him feel like his head was about to explode!
It seemed that whatever he said was the wrong thing to say from the way the smile slipped from Eddie's face.
"You know if it's really not your thing, you don't have to stay for the rest. We're probably gonna call it soon anyway, looks like your children aren't really invested either."
Shit he sounded upset. What did he say? What could he have done wrong? He was just sitting here.
"No-No! It's not that, its-" Steve started to say until the sound of one of the boys snorting at any attempt he made plucked on his nerves. Eddie glanced at Gareth confused as the rest of the party glared at him.
"Something funny?" Max bit at the boy causing him to promptly wipe the grin off his face.
The rest of the group started filing back in. Jonathan was the first back in the room, footsteps heavy against the wooden stairs, almost angry sounding. That was nothing compared to the cold expression on his face aimed solely at the three boys that had been making fun of Steve all night.
"Woah! Byers, man! Wheres the fire?" Argyle asked catching on to Jonathan's bad mood almost immediately. The man said nothing but gestured for Argyle to scooch back over to his seat as Robin and Nancy came back down the stairs with the same tension filled entrance. Robin took her seat back next to Max crossing her arms over her chest and shooting daggers at the three with the same intensity they'd been giving him since they arrived here causing them to wither under her gaze as any human would. Steve swallowed thickly suddenly feeling very put on the spot. It was pretty safe to say that Will had told them what he heard. Case in point, Mike and El came down th stairs hand in hand with Will behind them almost as though they were creating a barrier as he pointedly refused to look anywhere but his feet. Meanwhile Nancy grabbed hold of her chair that was previously placed beside Johnathan and dragged it over next to Steve, who looked over at Johnathan questionably. The younger man merely met his eye before nodding at him. Steve looked over at Eddie, who was following her every move as his frown drew deeper and deeper right until she sat down next to him.
"Are you okay?" Nancy asked him placing her hand delicately over his. It was a simple question. One that would've been much easier to answer if he wasn't painfully aware of the fact that Eddie was staring at him. No. He wasnt okay. He felt completely out of place. He was uncomfortable. The only reason hed agreed to come here was looking at him like he'd ran over his dog for some reason and he could feel people whispering about him all over the room. He just wanted to go home.
He watched as Eddie looked a little further to his right and followed his gaze to land on Robin, who's eyes quickly locked onto Eddie's. It looked as though they were trying to communicate something to eachother with Eddie's pointed look of hurt before Robin shook her head. Steve was just about reaching the end of his patience. Why wouldn't someone please tell him what he had done wrong?
But then one of the boys mumbled something else under his breath which then prompted the other two to snicker loudly. He could tell from how quickly he turned his head that Eddie had heard whatever they said. By this point El, Max and Erica looked as though they wanted to blow their heads up with how hard they were glaring at them. But then Steve looked at the four boys sitting around the table with the other members of Hellfire and, Oh God, every single one of them looked betrayed, pissed off and hurt.
But then he looked back at Eddie. There was no way he hadn't heard what they just said. He needed to see what he would do about it. His already plummeting hope was rapidly sinking lower and lower the longer it took the man to react. He watched as Eddie's eyes wandered back over to him and Nancy, right to the point where her hand was resting on top of his and then...
He smirked.
Hell he looked like he was trying not to laugh right along with them.
And fuck if that didn't sting.
But with how shitty this night had made him feel, Steve didn't even have it in him to process how hurt he was.
He was pissed.
Scoffing loudly Steve launched himself out of his chair almost toppling it over in the process.
"Seriously?!" He yelled, voice cracking at the last syllable.
And just like that, any trace of contempt was erased from Eddie's face, turning swiftly into shock.
"Steve-" Robin reached out to him but he quickly brushed her off.
"Screw this. I'll be in the car." And with that he stormed out of the basement.
It was only then that the three who started all this became all too aware of the death glares being shot at them from all directions.
"What the hell is wrong with you guys?!" Dustin exclaimed, sending a particularly wounded look at Eddie, whom had gone from smug in the sense of hiding his jealousy to remorseful in a matter of seconds as he quickly realised his mistake.
He barely paid any mind to the question however as he quickly shot up from his seat and ran after Steve. The man was already halfway up the street heading towards his car when Eddie spotted him.
"Steve!" Eddie called out to him.
The younger man didn't stop walking to his call as he spoke without looking back.
"Leave me alone, Munson. I've had my fair share of playground insults for one day."
Munson. Not Eds or Eddie. Back to Munson because of one stupid mistake.
"Steve, please just hear me out, man. I'm so-"
"Why the hell should I? Are you gonna pull my pigtails now too?" Steve cut him off, finally stopping to look at him.
"Steve-" Eddie tried again.
"I thought you wanted me to play your game! I thought you wanted me in your group! God I can't believe I fell for that." Steve cackled. "Did you even tell your band I was coming tonight?"
"Of course I did. But...Gareth, Jeff, Grant, they're weird about this kinda thing. It's just their way of being protective."
Steve barked an incredulous laugh, "Yeah, that's one word for it."
Eddie sighed, "Steve, you don't understand-"
"No, you're right, Eddie! I don't! I've been sitting there all night while this has been going on. It's been miserable. You invite me to watch you play your game the you all start whispering and giggling and talking shit like we're in the seventh grade or some shit! I don't need that kind of bullshit, Eddie!"
Eddie fumbled for words for a moment before replying, "They're just not used to it, you know. I've never had a friend like you before. They just want to make sure that..." Eddie quickly cut himself off before he said the wrong thing.
"That what?" Steve asked brokenly. And, oh...there it was. The look of complete hopelessness. The glassy tint to his eyes was a kick straight to Eddie's ribcage.
"That what, Eddie? That I'm not gonna hurt you? Lure you into a false sense of security and then jump you? After all we went through back there, all we're still going through, you can't even bring yourself to tell them that won't happen? Why? Because I played sports in high school suddenly that means I'm as bad as Jason Carver and all those other assholes? Is it because of who I used to be? Or is it because you all still think I am that person?"
Eddie winced as he was reminded of the gruesome fate he'd been told Jason received for all the shit he caused all those months ago.
"Steve.....Steve, no that's not true! I...." Why the hell was it so hard to get his words out? Why couldn't he say exactly what he wanted to say? Why was it so hard for him to tell Steve the very thing he'd wanted to tell him for months? He knew exactly what he wanted to say to Steve, what he wanted to do and be with him. But everytime it looked as though they were getting somewhere, something had to go and crash right through it. Tonight along with his friends, the fault lied with his own jealousy.
Steve laughed wetly under his breath.
"See? You can't even say it. I know that for some people my past will never die. Somehow the asshole I was will always find his way back to the surface for the people I've hurt no matter how deep I bury him. King Steve, mister funny, mister cool, grade A douchebag who peaked in high school, doomed to spend the rest of his life working dead end jobs and forcing himself through loveless relationships pointless in the inevitable truth he's destined to be alone. Because God forbid he ever tries and change so that he feels a little more like a human and less like a dead shell of a man so that he doesn't end up back in that box his parents tried so damn hard to place him in before they just gave up and left without a word mere months before the literal earth started collapsing beneath his feet!"
Throughout his outburst, Steve let the unshed tears fall, unless he merely hadn't bothered to notice them. He couldn't look at Eddie anymore. He didn't want to see the look of pity he was almost certainly giving him right now. If hed only looked back, he would've seen how wrong he was.
"Stevie...." Eddie whispered brokenly, making one final attempt to reach for him.
"Just! Just forget it. Okay? It was stupid of me to think that I could be something I'm not. Why did I even bother?" Steve turned away, getting into his car and closing the door. In a split second, Eddie was bypassed by Robin and not really to his surprise, Lucas and Erica. The two siblings didn't say a word to him as they climbed into the back seats of Steve's car. Steve waited for another moment, probably waiting to see if anyone else needed a lift before starting the car and driving away.
Eddie wasn't sure how long he'd been standing there but by the time he turned to go back into the Wheeler house, Steve's car was long out of sight. He just wanted to grab his shit and leave. He didn't care if he left something behind. He just wanted to leave.
Yet by the time he got back to the basement, it didn't look as though he would be getting his way anytime soon. Dustin was waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs, eyes hard and arms crossed over his chest. The only others remaining besides the two who actually lived there were the ones he was supposed to be driving home, Gareth, Jeff, Grant, and Max. Nancy was sitting beside the redhead now. It was only then that he noticed said three boys sitting at the table looking thoroughly chastised and honestly a little scared.
"Eddie," Dustin began, his pained expression from earlier gone, now something much more serious.
"I think we need to talk about Steve."

I don't know if this headcanon has been posted yet, but I'm literally obsessed with this though I had earlier today about Robin listening to Ska music. Like it just makes sense in my head that she'd like that sort of music and that she'd also play it because trumpets are a feature of ska.
Idk guys, just imagine Robin listening and playing ska and Robin introducing Steve to ska as well and this being his first real introduction to alternative music. Just imagine the options.

Actually Steve Harrington is aromantic and his desire for a relationship is just the framing of his actual desires in the way that's expected of him. He really wants to be in a Relationship but he never seems to have romantic feelings for anyone even when he says otherwise.
He's another comphet victim sorry it's true :/
S1: Considering they're barley official he is hurt to a very extreme degree by Nancy cheating on him, and I think it's because of his parents (his dad's infidelity is one of the few things we know about them) and the general betrayal rather than the act itself. He clearly likes Nancy but there's no reason it can't be platonic affection twisted by amatonormativity.
S2: Gets over Nancy very quickly ( the genuine sounding 'it's okay, Nance' literally the day he found out they were done) if not the Way she dumped him. Anyone would be hurt by that whole 'you're bullshit' scene but it hits differently if you read it as Steve trying so so hard to be in love, being extremely cheesy and romantic and doing everything a Good Boyfriend does, only to have her see right through him with 'Like we're in love'.
S3: He's hitting on girls but kind of treats it like a half-hearted joke? And when Dustin says he and Robin should date he just kinda goes yeah ok and asks her out but isn't the slightest bit disappointed when she rejects him. Yeah part of it is being a great friend but I feel like there was No romantic attraction between them, not just on Robin's end.
S4: Goes on a million dates but they never lead to anything more than sex. "You don't know what you want." His flirting with Nancy because she was the only person he's managed to have a real, serious relationship with, and maybe he can love her again, be in love with her for real this time.
He wants a family and stability and someone he knows cares about him as much he cares about them and a future and the only one he can imagine involves a wife. And yes this same argument can be made for him being gay but I am tired of the shipping and it would really be the perfect ending to his arc I think.
He should get to be happy with himself and with his life, even though it doesn't match society's standards. Most people wouldn't get it, believing he's missing something, but he isn't. He has a platonic soulmate and a spiritual little brother and an unconventional group of friends, most of whom are people he never would have associated with back when he was too concerned with everyone's expectations, and one day he'll adopt a bunch of kids and be a single dad, and he's happy.

Hihi, its nailbatwielder. What are your favourite steve/Eddie/robin headcanons?? (Or stranger things headcanons in general)? I like no-boundaries-platonic-stobin cos the mental image of them rocking up to events in each others clothes/being physically affectionate with one another and comfortable like that brings great joy, especially when there are others who do not know of Robin nor understand why these two stray cats won’t just date one another lol
oh my gods I have so so so so many headcannons for those three lmao.
Steve doesn’t like to watch movies alone because it makes him sad, but he also doesn’t really like to watch movies with the kids (all of them at once) because they all talk to much and (since I headcannon him as hard of hearing post s4) he can’t understand what it’s saying. So he normally doesn’t go to group movie nights.
Robin is totally autistic in my mind. Because I’m autistic, and I am literally the human embodiment of her, lmao. She likes sharks, and her favorite colors are yellow and green :)
Eddie only read LoTR and The Hobbit after Dustin made him, and he quotes it all the time to Dustin because Dustin still doesn’t really believe he actually read it (he made Eddie explain the plot to him in full detail the first time and then just annoys him by saying he thinks he hasn’t read it lmao)
Steve is claustrophobic so he avoids playing party games in case someone brings up “seven minutes in heaven” because he doesn’t want to be in the closet with someone. Although once at a party Tommy jokingly made Steve and Eddie play it because. You know. “Give the faggot (Eddie) what he wants” and Steve and Eddie just sat there and didn’t say anything. They never bring it up because it’s awkward for Eddie, and because Steve doesn’t remember it.
Eddie, Steve, and Robin all have horrible nightmares, and they have their own walkie-talkie channel set for if they want to check in after a nightmare and make sure the others are okay (it’s separate from the ones they have with the rest of the party since Steve would feel bad if he woke the kids up over a nightmare, even though he knows the kids wouldn’t mind. Mike might though.)
Claudia is basically Steve’s mom post-s4 and he stays with either her and Dustin, Robin and her parents, or Eddie and Wayne since he doesn’t want to be alone in his house.
I have like…a lot more but those are all I could remember off the top of my head lmao

i will accept nothing but platonic stobin living together for the rest of their lives. Their partners will have to be okay with it. Robin moving in with a girlfriend and leaving Steve behind? Blasphemy. They are locked in for life. Eddie happily accepts his fate. He would never dare separate the two of them. Nancy? Never got passed a first kiss with Robin. Bros before hoes.
(Robin: You can’t call women ‘hoes’ Eddie.
Eddie: why not? I’m gay it doesn’t count.
Steve: Babe you definitely can’t call them hoes.
Eddie: Why does he get to say it?!
Robin: He was a hoe. He’s earned it.
Steve: *nodding seriously* it’s true.)
Seriously though, stobin is a forever commitment. The purest of friendships. They make me so happy.

Robin’s shift was almost over, the sun dipping behind the horizon and leaving a splash of colors in its descent. Steve was late; By 2 minutes exactly but he was late nonetheless, and she’d make sure to bring it up. It was funny really, the way Robin still seemed to be bouncing at the end of her shift and Steve had just pulled up and he looked like he’d been hit by a bus. The look worked for him, but she’d never say. After all, it was her job to keep him humble.
“If you keep frowning like that it’ll be permanent,” Steve rolled his eyes like a petulant child, “in fact, I’m surprised you aren’t stuck like that already.”
“I’m plenty optimistic when I’m sleeping at night,”
“Steve,”
“Yeah,”
“You do realize you volunteered for this right?”
“Under the impression that you needed the sleep more than me but obviously you don’t. Look at you, you're like a damn ball.”
“I am not”
She was.
“It’s too late to argue, you gonna hand me the keys or not?”
“Steve, it’s eight.”
“Keys,” she tossed it to him as she walked to her car and he caught it, barely, but he did.
“‘Kay, stay safe, don’t fall asleep, good night.”
“I’d be sleeping if this was a good night,”
“Steve,”
“Night,” her head was stuck out the window as she waved goodbye, the wind blowing through her hair.

I feel like Robin would jokingly call Steve homophobic and Steve would look her all big wet puppy dog eyes like, “Was it… Robbie I..”
And Robin would panic and be like “No, No Steve you weren’t, I’m messing around… your a good person now…”
Until Steve starts cackling cause he was messing with her back, then Robin would throw a pillow at him and call him “The worst most homophobic man alive!”

Okay but what About Platonic Stobin and the shenanigans they do, if you have any headcannons for them ofc
platonic stobin my beloveds. of course i have headcanons for them anon <3
let me just off by saying that robin and steve getting brand new jobs frequently is a thing
idk if you ever watch austin and ally but the one character trish has a new job every episode and that's basically them, it's like a sitcom
not to mention that if a job doesn't want both of them, they won't get either of them
it's a package deal
after scoops ahoy and family video, i think they work at 7/11, target, gap, mcdonald's, and plenty more
all of these jobs end in comical disaster, from accidentally knocking over displays to purposely yelling at asshole customers
nancy jokingly says "maybe if you guys worked at victoria's secret you'd be motivated to try harder and keep a job for a while"
steve and robin laugh this off but they're both beet red at the thought
i really do adore the idea of them being each other's wingman btw
i think robin is genuinely helpful
like she'll see a girl that steve is interested in and she'll start with some jokes and anecdotes and then end the conversation with giving the girl steve's number
how well steve maintains that relationship is up to him but robin has a great set-up going for him
steve is. a wingman
he tries so hard but doesn't know how
he'll go up to a girl and lean against the wall awkwardly and be like. so. titties. whaddya think
this definitely scares off more girls than anything
but hey it's the thought that counts right
steve is robin's number one fan in marching band
he comes to every football and basketball game with homemade banners and scream for her
everyone around him is like ???? who just comes to see the band? but he doesn't care, he's gotta support his bestie
i think they have sleepovers every friday night after football/basketball games
they just have wonderful nights of soul healing
robin teaches steve how to do makeup, they talk about their crushes, watch disney channel original movies, and eat way too much junk food
but who cares, it's time to heal their inner child
robin and steve have the best halloween costumes btw
they go as mack and brady from teen beach movie (steve as mack and robin as brady), syd and stan from i am not okay with this, iron man and cap from marvel, etc.
whatever they choose, it's always pretty iconic
when robin is ready to come out to her family, steve helps her do it
robin is pretty confident that her parents will be okay with it, but she's still nervous
so steve comes up with a lighthearted way to come out to her parents
they walk in to her living room holding hands and robin goes "mom. dad. i have something to tell you"
and they look at her and steve's hands like "oh boy here we go"
and then they drop hands and give each other a fist bump and robin goes "i'm a lesbian lmao"
it goes over pretty well ngl
steve's proud of himself for that one he thinks it's pretty funny
i hope you enjoyed these!! i love them sm

i need a long fic with the building friendship between the triple threat, the muskequeers, the troublesome trio: Steve, Eddie and Robin. I need them being silly, and learning to have fun again. I need them healing from trauma together. I need fun roommate shenanigans. I need Eddie and Steve slowly falling in love, and Robin just happy watching it happen. I need Steve and Eddie taking Robin to her first gay club. I need just little snippets of their lives as friends. I just need this.

I think we all overestimate (including myself) how much the party would notice Steve and Eddie being into each other. Or how the things they do aren’t strictly platonic. Like they are all traumatized and codependent. They would probably think “this looks weird to other people but not to us. Everyone else just doesn’t get it.” All of them have either anxious attachment styles or avoidant ones. And both in the very extreme. So Steve and Eddie going from drastically hot and cold makes sense to all of them.
These two boys are absolutely floundering trying to figure out each other, and the party is just like “yes, yes this is normal. Just traumatized bros being bros”. Especially the boys. The girls (max and el) probably are a bit more suspicious about it but considering their upbringings and the horrible journey of puberty they are still navigating, they assume it’s just not something they are used to/understand. Also let’s not forget it’s the 80s, where yes gay people exist (so many people pretend like they don’t, like why???), it was an extremely tense time to be queer (ie, satanic panic and the aids crisis), so people weren’t as open about it especially in Indiana, so these kids probably don’t just assume what their surrogate father figures are doing is anything but friendly.
The only person that would actually notice is Robin. Not the party, not the adults, not Murray (although this one is hilarious). But Robin.
For two obvious reasons. One, platonic soulmates duh. Steve probably rants about how Eddie hasn’t talked to him three days and he doesn’t understand why, and he misses him and she probably thinks “oh my god he’s so dumb.” The second reason being she’s gay™️. And just like most queer kids, she looks way too deeply into the slightest homoerotic thing. Every thing Eddie and Steve do, she has a full essay as to why that means they are in love.
And despite her clocking it, when Steve finally admits her feelings about Eddie to her she thinks “holy shit I can’t believe I was right.”
——
I love the everyone knows they are into each other but themselves trope, but oblivious party trope is also hilarious to me
