mini dedication essay to black simmers and ts4 creators below! pls read if you have the chance! <3

this edit is a small homage to afrofuturism and the various unique black hairstyles (and especially the black creators of most of these hairs) that i have downloaded and admired over the years! some of these are old and some of these are new.

to me, afrofuturism means constantly honoring/reclaiming/challenging the past while constantly creating/dreaming of a better society/world/future. a society/world/future that embraces and empowers all of our differences, ingenuity, aspirations, and unique lived/cultural experiences. a society/world/future that does not limit us through the various systems of marginalization and oppression (racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, sexism, xenophobia, ableism, classism, colorism, etc.) that often affects how we, as black people, live today.

blackness is so diverse and intricate yet it's always been a struggle to find my culture within a game that's known for being so limiting, bland, and extremely eurocentric when it comes to hairstyles, clothing, food traditions/events, etc. black simmers have always had to figure out how to make this game more inclusive and make it resemble either more like how our ancestors lived, how our current lives are, or how we would want our lives (and even our children's lives) to look like in the future no matter how dystopian the real world look and feel now. fortunately, these hairs and their uniqueness bring a huge sense of culture and style to this game. they have always inspired me and made me feel extremely proud to a part of the lovely african diaspora (and the ever-growing black simmer community).

in a way, being a black simmer and cc creator usually means that we are often digitally creating our own worlds as afrofuturists to varying degrees (whether we know it or not) every time we open our game, make our sims, make houses, and/or make black cultural cc. also, now i know that cc making is not easy to do and is extremely time-consuming so this post is also just me giving all black cc creators especially those who create for free their well-deserved flowers! here are some other black cc creators who created cc that have greatly impacted my game since i first started playing sims 4: @/leeleesims1 @/simtric @/hi-land @/yuyulie @/sims4bradshaw @/ebonixsims @/xmiramira @/sheabuttyr @/qwertysims @/oplerims @/sleepingsims @/shespeakssimlish and so many more im forgetting probably (im too shy rn to tag ppl but i greatly appreciate y’all fr i hope y’all telepathically get this message somehow 😭).

a little update on what i've been doing in the sims lately! don't mind the huge walls of text for once i'm saying things in the post instead of the tags lmao

matthias's scars are very slowly coming along! i really love his left leg scar but can't really show all of it because i'd have to get him naked for that and it also wraps around his leg. um, but it starts at the side of his hip and carves down at an angle before abruptly following a steep line to the back of his calf. it looks gnarly which is exactly what i'm trying to achieve with matthias's scars! i'm also pretty pleased with the scars on his wrists and side, but the scar he has on the back of his right leg is... a little too crunchy? i don't know, it just looks weird. it's kind of hard to get the scars i'm making to look good on matthias's body. especially scars that're smaller or delicate... like the instant loss of quality makes me want to chew on exposed wires. but that's where i've left off on them! his arms and back are where he has the most damage but my god... it's SO difficult trying to get scars to look nice over his biceps and back muscles. also the hair ties i made for him look nice on his wrist <3

theo's apartment is also finally in the works. i've got the base layout finished and a general idea of what all the rooms are for. building and decorating isn't actually that daunting to me, surprisingly—instead, what's actually causing me a lot of grief is the realization that this is too big for theo to really be comfortable in. so, i was thinking, okay, that's fine, just get rid of three of the rooms and scale down the living area. only to pause and take into account the fact that theo's parents pay for this. they're controlling and also very big on appearance so i'm not sure they'd be fine with their son living in a shoebox—i mean, what would people say if word got to them that he doesn't even have a walk-in closet? like... that's the kind of people they are. but i wanted theo to feel comfortable in his apartment so now i'm feeling conflicted on how i want it to look. i'm definitely going to scale down the bedrooms and the living area... but it'll still feel too big to theo. there are just too many corners for him to ever fully let his guard down... which, hm... well, maybe that fits the story more anyway.

this is his general aesthetic for the interior btw... i want it to be brown, cream, and green all throughout the apartment with splashes of orange (this mix between his old dorm and his childhood home but with something new blending it together). i really wanted him to have stained glass windows in his kitchen and bathroom but couldn't find any </3 so sadly that's not happening. and i need to find a nice curio cabinet for his collection of bells... along with bells too lmao. but that's where i'm at so far! i'm seriously going to just sit here in build mode for hours just... trying to figure out how to make this place more comfortable for theo. like it's supposed to be where he feels safe but it's just too much rn.

So, I am so emotionally attached to my cat. But I'm going to be traveling for a few weeks to visit my partner and my baby doesn't do well with travel, he gets so sick and distressed. So my bestie (she has his sister from the same litter so she's auntie) is going to take care of him while I'm gone and she just came to pick him up and now he's gone and I'm just...I'm missing my baby it's so pathetic

hi, i'm not jewish and wouldn't want to speak over anyone, but from my perspective maybe removing plot points that could parallel blood libel and adding more that parallel the anti capitalist angle could be a good start.

removing the eternal youth angle and emphasizing how the power of the companies hinges on exploiting the working conditions of workers instead of experiments on them could be an option? also a character being a class traitor could potentially weaken parallels to power being "birth right" of the secret society imo. there's also always an option to demystify the conspiracy by showing that this current route sounds more interesting, but that the truth is just capitalism and even though it doesn't sounds as exciting it's still very scary.

As a start I’m planning to remake the Reddit pages and relevant dialogue from the last post to be more “agnos is a major corporation that’s trying to monopolize the market and they’re engaging in shady business practices to be at the forefront of tech and medicine development (at the expense of their workers/sub-companies).”

I think similarly, the focus on the alien tech could be more of a commentary on “how far are we willing to go in the name of science and advancement”, and I’ll definitely cut out the “eternal youth” aspect.

I’m hoping that this is enough to redirect the narrative that the story is establishing, but if anyone feels otherwise please let’s continue the conversation!

Idk why I never did this before but if you like building in the sims but your houses all kinda end up looking exactly the same on the interior (like mine do) then I highly recommend using a random color pallette generator

You could probably stick to one color pallette for the whole house if you wanted but I'm using a different one for each room

For the bathrooms shared between 2 bedrooms i combined aspects of both color pallettes and for the master bathroom I used the same pallette as the master bedroom.

I think it even looks good for the rooms that aren't actually separated from each other (the kitchen and informal dining room kept the same pallette while the living room and hallway are different ones)

Not all the color pallettes are gonna work exactly right (like tone and shade wise) cuz you have to work with the swatches you have available but ive managed to keep them pretty close to the pallettes the generator gave me.

got a little personal thing to get out bc i don’t feel like talking about it with people in my real life right not

so i’ve mentioned before on here that i’m currently working with a service dog in training for an organization via a club at my school. the dog i’m working with, justice, has fairly strong anxiety around new people but other than that has been doing amazingly in her training. i’ve had her for about 2 months now and have loved it, it’s hard but it’s a really rewarding experience. today i got a text from one of the professional trainers in the organization that, due to justice’s anxiety, they are looking at placing her with someone else for a while to see if it’s a phase or not. now i fully get that a college campus is an overwhelming place for a dog and that if it is a just an anxious phase this is a rough place to work through it. i also obviously want what’s best for her and her training, that is the priority, that is the commitment i made when signing up to be a puppy raiser. it’s just hard to feel like i did something wrong or that i failed her in some way. i know that this being considered is just due to justice and her issues and my environment maybe not being the best place for her. i’m just really struggling with the possibility of her leaving me so much earlier than expected. it’s also hard because i am finally finding a community here at college in my fellow puppy raisers and i (somewhat selfishly) don’t want to lose that by no longer having a dog i’m working with. i meet with a professional trainer on thursday to discuss and figure out if justice will be placed with someone else and i’m so so so nervous. the hardest part is that i truly think she would be better off being placed somewhere else. i just wish i could acknowledge that without feeling like i did something wrong. because i know that i have done the best that i possibly can with this dog. it also doesn’t help that one of the dogs in the college program recently got moved due to her raiser being irresponsible so i’m also scared of people thinking that a similar thing is happening with me. i hope we can figure out what’s best for justice and i hope that whatever it is allows her to overcome her anxiety and eventually have a career because i think she’d be an amazing service animal. i just wish it wasn’t so hard.
