i think grover pointing out to percy that annabeth's yankee's cap is the only thing she has of her godly parent makes percy realize how important it is for demigods to have symbols of their parents with them. and i would really love to see it all come full circle when percy battles with ares later on in season one, and after he wins, he demands that ares leave them alone so they can return the bolt and that he gives clarisse another spear to make up for the one he broke. which would be an amazing way to set up percy and clarisse's 'i have a lot of respect for you/you're an annoying bitch that i tolerate/if anyone messes with you, i'll cut them' trope for later seasons.

I like to think that pre-Oracle Rachel painted scenes from both wars, but she and Percy have no idea until they go back and reflect.
Percy notices, cause Rachel shows him her art, but he just rights it off as weird, even tho something doesn’t feel right.
Like, that’s DEFINITELY a replica Achilles mourning Patroclus. Only it’s two girls, one with flowing hair and a melted face, the other kneeling over her friend, face stricken with grief. He thinks her eyes look familiar. An immortal stands over them. Although they remind more of Ares and less of Thetis.
She has another painting that reminds Percy of a story from the Gigantomachy. Hera cowers under Porphyrion, about to be attacked. Only instead of Zeus and Heracles coming to her aid, it’s a guy with blond hair. His armor and sword is distinctively NOT Greek, but he opts to not comment on it. Rachel did a good job.
There’s more in her little studio, they both dismiss them as dreams. They make Rachel uncomfortable and Percy feels bile rise the more he looks.
He doesn’t realize until months later. It hits him while on the Argo. Him, Jason, Clarisse. THEY were the heroes in those paintings. Jason was the one coming to Hera’s aid. Clarisse was mourning Selina. He was fighting giants.
It all clicked into place, and he tried to remember what else her paintings for-told.

my friend who has never read percy jackson but really likes the show (she will borrow my books after the first season ends hhaha) told me about her theories (at mcdonalds for all the nico stans out here) and i smiled and nodded my way through them
here are the best ones
- there is no traitor (i wish bro i wish)
- percabeth will happen (no shit sherlock , i didnt say that bc i dont spoiler shit but damn bro)
- hermes will sing (she is a theater kid especially musicals especially hamilton...)
- clarisse x luke ????? (oh damn like oooooohhhh damn he basically kills her gf so damnn)
- luke is hot ( not a theory but she did mention it quite alot)
- luke isnt the traitor because it would be too sad (and yes she doesnt know rick like we do, it is toooo sad)
- percy will get into MANY MANY MANY near death scenarios (yeah but plot armour soooo, but yeah he is the main character so duh)

"Annabeth grabbed hold of my hand. Under normal circumstances, this would have embarrassed me, but I understood how she felt. She wanted reassurance that somebody else was alive on this boat." - PJO:TLT (290)

i am the percy jackson show’s biggest defender bc fuck all those MILLENIALS complaining about a KIDS show?? this isn’t for you babes its made mainly for the younger generation 😭😭🙏
“the pacing is too fast” so were the books.
“it’s so different from the books, i wanted it exactly like them” of course it’s different the first book wasn’t written with the other 5 books and the following spin offs in mind, so now they’re including details that help expand the world with regards to the whole story + it would be boring if we got a 1:1 retelling of the book like just read the books if that’s the story you want?? 😭
“annabeth is NOT annabeth” yes she literally is pls rmbr that annabeth and percy had a rocky start and they are literally 12!!!
“too much tell and not show” well yeah so were the books 💀 mind you percy’s very new to this world he doesn’t have much pre-existing knowledge other than the stories and so ofc the fastest way to develop the world is by telling, that’s why it’s much easier to show than tell in later books when the readers/watchers alr know so much about how things work so it doesn’t have to be said
“percy’s too serious” he literally makes the best sarcastic comments every episode; the books were written in his perspective, and all his best moments were in his head (which ofc is hard to show), other tv show/movie characters don’t make as many jokes as percy does here idk what ppl are going on about
“they ruined the lotus casino scene, the kids were supposed to have fun” the proceeds to say “where is the sense of urgency!!” now this is so contradicting. you want them to have fun but be urgent?? make it make sense 😭 but yes i would’ve loved to see them get a little distracted, but i loved the scene regardless
the show isn’t perfect, but it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be 😕

An Inexhaustive List of Everything I'm Excited for in the New PJO TV Show
-Tunnel of Love
-Hitching a ride with the Circus animals
-Echidna
-HELLHOUND ATTACK
-Clarisse. Just in general.
-"you drool when you sleep"
-Fighing Ares
-PROCRUSTES im telling yall he is UNDERRATED
-Tiny middle schooler Percy Jackson being generally violent and a nuisance
-MR. D and the PERFECT casting for rgat role. Absolutely magnificent.
-Also watching tiny middle schooler Percy Jackson get stung by a pit scorpion and nearly die. Like we forget how close he came to literally dying in just the first book.
-Seeing the Hermes cabin and getting a general look at how much the conditions there suck
-Luke being a mentor/big brother to Percy, short-lived as it may be (just let me have this :'))
-RIPTIDEEEEE
-Perseus Jackson and his brilliant acting skills ("I know my stepfather Gabe misses me so much, anyways he's giving out free appliances")
-we'RE LOST IN THE WOODS SOMEWHERE IN NEW JERSEY AND WE'RE NEVER GONNA MAKE IT TO LA
-Kind of hype to see how they reimagine the Medusa scene from how it was done in the movie. I know the movie was still nothing like the book but I'm still excited to see how they distinguish it.
-obviously i'm just generally hype to see day-to-day life at CHB. Like just the dining pavilion and campfires and dryads and satyrs and capture the flag. It's gonna be GREAT.
Feel free to add more thoughts to this!!!

Ok what if Grover thinks Athena took the bolt. He said he got something out of Ares, and they had a whole conversation about Athena. When he says “always making everything more complicated so people will think she’s smarter than everyone else”. If Athena took the bolt, people wouldn’t come to Zeus anymore for his power, they would all come to Athena for her wisdom in such a crazy time. Plus, Athena sending Echidna after them could be seen as a way to stall the quest…
(There’s no way they would reveal the actual lightning thief)

“Poseidon’s never helped me before. He wasn’t gonna start now. I would’ve never made it to Hades.”
Okay, it is honestly impressive how much we can get from these lines; the first two sentences are an expression of Percy’s perception of futility in trying to get Poseidon’s help. The third says a lot about how Percy sees himself, not just in relation to the quest, but also more broadly himself as a person because of how he’s been set up in the world.
The ‘would’ communicates Percy’s reflection on his life, had it been uninterrupted by his impending (and now accepted) death. And it can be read in two ways: one, Percy, if he escaped from the Chimera wouldn’t make it to Hades because obviously his father doesn’t care enough about him to save him. He would die of poison before making it to LA.
Two though, and more sad, is that even if he were the one making it down the stairs, even if he were at his best, even if he beat Echidna and the chimera, even if they’d never encountered them, Percy doesn’t believe he could ever have completed the quest. Percy suddenly understands how poorly-prepared he really is, and has the despairing thought that if he can’t handle the chimera, how could he ever have hoped to make it the rest of the way across the country?
No doubt there is a bubbling up in this moment of insecurities he’s been harboring for a long time about his ability. Ones that may have been assuaged a bit by going to camp and finding out he’s normal by demigod standards. But now in the face of death, Percy recognizes his feelings of perpetual inadequacy, and gives in, believing them to be true. Of course he was going to fall short, of course he was always going to fail; the Oracle told him as much. He was just dumb enough to forget it and think he could be a hero.

all i'm saying is you can't tell me that when annabeth watched percy hold up medusa's head and kill alecto, she didn't immediately think of that statue in the new york metropolitan museum of arts of his namesake doing the exact same thing. you can't tell me she didn't recognize his courage and realize how powerful and essential this boy is going to be for the future of the world as they know it.

I know ur not gonna watch the show but I would b so into hearing ur takes on it, it's just not hitting for me rn
from what bits and pieces i've seen posted on here i would say that the cinematography seems really nice, most recent disney shows seem to have a very casual "content" style of filming. i don't know how else to explain it other than the current productions even in their filming are designed just to push more media out rather than a love for film and photography as an art form, and i think the pjo tv show from the screencaps and commercials/trailers i have seen seems to balance this nicely. disney is inevitably going to want to push out content as that is how they profit, but the camera angles and the camera details (Percy doing fortnite dances, very funny, but also very well shot! Medusa's veil, very clever and I like the "coy" way the camera plays with the viewer seeing her eyes in those gifs) have an intention and care into them that other recent disney tv shows geared towards the same age group just don't seem to have. i will say that's nice!
the only negative thing i have to say from what i've seen in the gifs and screencaps is that camp looks very... cheap... there are some cool details i seen someone make a post pointing out Percy's seaweed lamp (very cool! i like the fish skeletons I seen hanging too!) but the campers running around in the background do not have the same level of attention given. of course they are background characters and they're definitely not given full styling teams or proper wardrobe, but it is so bad imo to the point where it has become distracting to me in the background a few times on those clips, i can't imagine trying to watch the show and seeing all these background characters running around looking disconnected from the main cast by the lack of attention to their wardrobe. it's not that it's inherently wrong or anything, there are budgets shows have to stick to and cutting background characters is usually one of the first places shows cut, so maybe i should just be thankful all the kids aren't poorly done cgi but at the same time seeing Percy or Annabeth's chb shirts be very well tailored to them as individuals and then seeing the exact opposite in the background characters is just ??? to me. i don't know if it's a problem anyone else has but i tend to just pin point weird details like that.
i know they have changed some of the details of the plot and such, i can't comment much on that as i haven't actually watched any of those episodes. i hope it doesn't have any significant ripple effects down the line in terms of them having to skip entire bits of development in characters or plot because they felt something wasn't important 3 seasons ago and then they have to go "oh shit wait we needed that obscure bit" but who can say we are no where near that point.
my favorite bit of anything and everything to come out of the show though is the god awful horribly incorrect predictions people are having, people crushing on Luke, and people hoping for Percy as if he isn't the main character. if i was a more chaos driven person i would be frothing at the mouth for people's behavior in later seasons where there's a wider cast and stakes are higher and outcomes are more unknown. do i want the 2014 pjo/hoo drama rehashed? no absolutely not that sucked we should never do that again. do i want to sit back with a snack and watch other people rehash the same points and start the same fights 10 years later simply because it would be a mess? someone find me an original persassy post and sign me up. (it's like when you've worked in retail and then you're out in public and another customer is being awful and you're having flashbacks but also your nosey so you keep watching and you only intervene if it gets excessive... someone here has to understand that comparison....)
honestly i can't say too much about the actual show itself i haven't seen it, i've just seen bits and pieces of what (mostly mutuals) have posted or shared. i stand behind the fact i'm not really interested in fandoms with tv shows in the same way i am towards book fandoms and that i won't be watching the show; but i am open to staying neutral on things if people want to reach out just for someone to share thoughts with as if i am not even watching it i won't have strong opinions on most things, if any.
i know there have been more episodes dropped since you sent this so hopefully some of your tv show wants are happening, nonnie <3

Review: We Find Out The Truth, Sort Of
As the season winds down, amidst all the discourse, I realized something: Percy might not be the main character of his own show. In fact, depending on how the finale goes down, I think I can make a pretty solid argument for Sally being the main character.
I recognize this may be contentious but I absolutely love TV Sally. I love how raw she still is, how the struggle of single parenting weighs her down, how much she adores her son and tries and sometimes fails to fight her feelings of anger and loneliness to be the best mother she can be. I think Krull is killing it and I might be a stan for life.
Here’s the issue, though–I’m thirty years old.
Am I the target audience for PJO TV? What even is the target audience? What I thought at first was a more deliberate, mature pacing and tone might have melted into the general, family-friendly slop that plagues all recent Disney productions… or it might actually be the deliberate, mature pacing and tone that I thought. I really can’t tell, which is part of the problem.
What’s strangest (not necessarily in a bad way) to me is that, thinking over the last seven episodes, the overwhelming theme has been… how hard parenting is. Again, it’s a weirdly adult theme for a TV show based on a middle-grade novel. Not that the theme wasn’t present in the books, it was just obviously more of a background coloring, rather than being something Percy actively and consistently thought about.
Certainly, the colorlessness of the show isn’t helping matters. Beyond just night lighting being bad, the actual color editing is so gray and lifeless that even well-constructed cinematography isn’t able to save it, and its absence just confuses the tone even further. Again, this is a problem across a significant percentage of Disney live action products, from Marvel to Star Wars and the shit awful remakes. I could go on about Disney ruining film lighting and color-grading, but the deeper issue here is that the creative team behind PJO is just not taking advantage of the medium of visual live action. Which is a shame. Again, I point to The Lightning Thief musical’s overwhelming earnestness and sincerity, fully leaning into itself as a piece of musical theater, which has different strengths, weaknesses, and requirements than literature or film. “D.O.A.,” for all its silliness, takes advantage of its limitations and celebrates its uniqueness, and it’s disappointing to see that the same initiative isn’t present here for PJO TV.
I was kind of joking last time, but Charlie Bushnell, I need you to be so good next episode. You might actually be my last hope.
Stray thoughts:
Swapping the zoo truck heart to heart for Procrustes was still a bad idea, and I’m glad they basically zoomed right past it. Also, who was it who said that they should have used the stretching to cover up for Walker’s growth spurt, because LMAO
Regarding Annabeth’s regret, I firmly believe it’s about her father. This also fits with her book storyline, where she decides to give her dad another chance.
“Is this…?” “No.” “I mean it looks like–” “IT ABSOLUTELY IS NOT” I love Aryan’s delivery so much here
I like to imagine that TV Hades is just grown up Nico.
I predicted that this episode would end on a pre-fight cliffhanger weeks ago, and I was right! You can ask Darkmagyk, she was there. I know how television works!
