The Grave of the Yellow Men
It’s said that the blood that flows in all of us; every one of us in the country is blood that came from across the sea. Our identity is best understood from a maritime perspective. For centuries, Ireland has been a haven for explorers, settlers, colonialists, navigators, pirates and traders absorbing goods and people from all points of the world. Over the centuries, there was a vast traffic in…

“The 16th century was a volatile and violent era in which cities such as Tétouan required decisive, strong, competent, and intelligent leaders to survive. Al-Sayyida al-Hurra was definitely all these things and more. She was a woman who rose to power and ruled in her own right for decades. She did not hesitate to take action, when necessary, in the form of diplomacy and outright war to safeguard her city. Despite the scarce information on her life in the sources, she certainly left her mark on history.”

while travelling in morocco i was reading fanfiction on my phone for a long bus drive and to make small talk one of the girls on my trip asked me "whatcha reading?"
and friends
i drew a blank like i haver never drawn a blank before in my life
because i didn't want to say "fanfiction" but didn't think of a good lie either
so i just went "uuuuuuh" for at least 30 seconds
then she and the girl next to her laughed knowingly and said "ooh i see"
which i take to mean they assume i read some kind of tik tok porn
HOWEVER
THE REAL READ came when i told my best friend this story
and she immediately went "just say you read a love story about a pirate samurai and the cook of his crew"
WHEN I DIDNT SAY WHAT THE FANFIC WAS ABOUT
never felt so exposed before in my life

Wanted posters of Morocco and his Apprentice (request for @moroccos-apprentice )
Morocco would be such a weirdo in One Piece knowing that Dr. Vegapunk has recently been revealed (time to read the manga 😔). Apprentice just got there and no one lays an eye on him, so his bounty is probably the lowest.
When Morocco appeared in One Piece the first thing he did was research and seek ways to take advantage of the situation. For reasons of destiny, he found a Devil Fruit (the Petroleum Petroleum fruit) that gave him the power to transform his whole being into a petroleum-like liquid.
He is not aligned with any Pirate Crew or organization, and if he is, they have to pay in millions of berries.
It is still unknown what he wants or what his allies want from him,, yet his mysterious nature doesn't take out the fact that danger he and his MorBots represent.

Would you happen to have an idea about the most frequently used routes between Europe and North Africa around the turn of the 19th century? I'm curious if it was more efficient to close the distance between the two continents directly by sea or by crossing land to a more accessible point (e.g. traveling on foot from Algiers to Morocco to ultimately get to, say, Austria.) Thank you, and happy seafaring!
Hi, it depends on where you start from. And what nation you might belong to, because travelling during the Naopleon Wars was not without danger. And as you can see from these maps, some areas were not even within the travel range of some nations, so that you were quite dependent on the footpath, or you had to take many transfers.
Tumblr media
However, travelling by ship was still safer than on foot, because the Mediterranean region in particular was still very pirate-infested and very dangerous, especially for Christians. You could easily end up as a slave. But the most likely way to get to the Mediterranean was with the Dutch and Spanish, and from there mostly on foot or with a local ship, like an Italian ship.

On This Day - April 27, 1805 – After marching 500 miles from Egypt, U.S. agent William Eaton leads a small force of U.S. Marines and Berber mercenaries against the Tripolitan port city of Derna. The Marines and Berbers were on a mission to depose Yusuf Karamanli, the ruling pasha of Tripoli, who had seized power from his brother, Hamet Karamanli, a pasha who was sympathetic to the United States.
The First Barbary War had begun four years earlier, when U.S. President Thomas Jefferson ordered U.S. Navy vessels to the Mediterranean Sea in protest of continuing raids against U.S. ships by pirates from the Barbary states–Morocco, Algeria, Tunis, and Tripolitania. American sailors were often abducted along with the captured booty and ransomed back to the United States at an exorbitant price.
After two years of minor confrontations, sustained action began in June 1803, when a small U.S. expeditionary force attacked Tripoli harbor in present-day Libya. In April 1805, a major American victory came during the Derna campaign, which was undertaken by U.S. land forces in North Africa. Supported by the heavy guns of the USS Argus and the USS Hornet, Marines and Arab mercenaries under William Eaton captured Derna and deposed Yusuf Karamanli.
Lieutenant Presley O’ Bannon, commanding the Marines, performed so heroically in the battle that Hamet Karamanli presented him with an elaborately designed sword (Mameluke) that now serves as the pattern for the swords carried by Marine officers. The phrase “to the shores of Tripoli,” from the official song of the U.S. Marine Corps, also has its origins in the Derna campaign.
And, it's National Devil Dog Day!

29th January 1850 saw the birth in Muthill of Helen Gloag, who through a series of remarkable events went on to become the Empress of Morocco.
If you have not heard of Helen Gloag, a Scottish woman who became Sultana of Morocco, you are not alone. Her story recently resurfaced.
Helen, a traditional Scottish redhead, was the eldest of Andrew and Anna’s four children. Tragically, Anna lost her mother when she was a child, and her father remarried. Her relationship with her new stepmother was said not to be very good, and as a result, Helen left home when she was just 19-years-old in May 1769 to travel as an indentured servant to the New World – the British colony of South Carolina to be specific.
Helen, who was travelling with some female friends, would not make it to the New World. After sailing for just two weeks, her ship was attacked off the coast of Spain by the Barbary pirates from Morocco. Along with the other women, Helen was taken to a slave market in Algiers in what is today Algeria. The men on the ship were all murdered.
The beautiful green-eyed Scottish woman was sold to a wealthy Moroccan who then handed her over to Sultan Sidi Mohammid ibn Abdullah of Morocco (a member of the Alaouite/Alawi Dynasty that still rules Morocco to this day) as a gift. Due to her beauty, the Sultan added her to his harem. Before long, she became his fourth wife and would go on to be the principal wife who was given the title of Sultana of Morocco.
She was called Lalla Zahra; ‘Lalla’ is a term used in Morocco, ahead of the person’s given name, to show respect and is often used by noble and royal women.
Reportedly, the Sultana was instrumental in convincing the Sultan to have seafarers and slaves, who had been captured by pirates, released. As a favourite of his, she was able to write and send gifts back home to Scotland; the Sultan, who was the first head of state to recognise the United States, even allowed her brother, Robert, to visit her in Morocco on occasion. Robert was responsible for her story being brought back to her homeland.
Sultan Sidi Mohammid died in 1790, and one of his sons, by a German woman in his harem, Yazid took the throne to become Sultan of Morocco. Not wanting to have any competition for the throne, he ordered the killing of his two brothers, who he is said to have been incredibly envious of, by Helen – even though she had attempted to keep them safe by sending them away to a monastery in Tétouan (a town where his first order of business was to persecute the Jews). She reportedly sent out a plea to the British Navy for assistance, but they would not make it to her sons before the new Sultan’s troops would discover and murder both boys.
What exactly happened to the Scottish Sultana of Morocco has never been clear, as nothing was heard from or about her after the death of her sons; however, it has been assumed that she was killed by Yazid or his forces in the two years – known to be full of unrest – after he took the throne.
As I said at the start interest in Helen Gloag only recently peaked thanks to a historical novel based upon her, The Fourth Queen by Debbie Taylor

Just say a post saying Islam and Judaism never cause as much damage as Christianity did….
This person never looked up what the Hindus history with Islam was. For they will put out the mess the Catholic Church cause to their country.
From what I read, the conflicts between Muslims and Hindus make the ones between Protestants and Catholics look tame when it comes to hatred.
It's a thing in western education, we focus on the western world and not much else.
Most everything I learned in school that involved Islam was the Crusades and honestly there was very little about them other than that they happened.
I learned the Ottoman Empire existed and then after WWI it didn't anymore, Barbary pirates were a thing and one of the big reasons that the US decided to have a full time navy.
I didn't learn about the arabization of Persia when the Muslims swept in and displaced a bunch of the native population of what is now Iran and managed to take a indigenous religion that at it's peak had 40-50 million followers and well.
Tumblr media
Persecution of Zoroastrians
Persia was Assyria btw, they and Rome didn't get along on general principal and Christians weren't so nice to them either, not to the extent the Muslims were but still not nice, fair amount of fighting.
Jews managed to avoid annihilation because there were lots of them elsewhere, Babylon had seen to that, Assyria let many of them go home but not all, then came Greece and Rome who decided that last rebellion was the last straw and scattered them again, which lasted like 1800 years.
Here's some ways you might have heard of it too,
Tumblr media
History of slavery in the Muslim world
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This shit, I didn't learn anything about.
There's zero doubt that Christianity has a big body count attached to it, also managed to almost or completely wipe out so nobody is innocent there.
Judaism has never been big enough to cause a large amount of trouble, that strip of land called Israel is not quite all of their ancient territory that was stolen from them, some stuff on the other side of sea of Galilee and what not but not a terribly numerous people at an point so I don't think they could square even with Christianity or Islam.
But saying Islam isn't at the same level or worse than Christianity when it comes down to it is ridiculously ignorant, hell earlier this century Islam was causing damage with isis destroying priceless artifacts and trying to erase the history of the territory that they had claimed for their caliph and please don't say they're not real Muslims, it's a cop out and they'd say the same about the faithful in Morocco.

On the Pirate Republics
I hate how there are still people that think the pirate republics are legitimate. You do know the oceans use to be completely free, right? You could ship goods without having to choose between paying a toll or getting shot at. I know they have a democratic government and constitution with unalienable rights (Progressive for the time, credit where its due), but they shouldn't even be allowed to control the sea in the first place.
"Oh but its their land" WHAT LAND. You can't take residence on the sea, or farm on it or even mark a border properly. Until satellite mapping, nobody could even establish specific borders, they just stuck to the general "this space between continents is mine". The ONLY reason CROP/AROP, Libertatia, and the North Pacifics control that ocean is to extort ships out of cash or cargo. Indonesia, at least, has land that encompasses a lot of sea, but that still doesn't excuse the fact they do the same pirating the other pirate nations do.
Its racketeering, plain and simple. And this did not just affect the merchants that built their houses on overseas shipping, in fact, it had a much wider effect on the world economy.
Once the European powers stopped warring with the Atlantic hegemon, they basically let a new barrier to entry exist for any business that wants or needs overseas clients. If you're already a rich country? No big deal. But if you're poor/developing? You gotta go through the Republic's in-house freighting. Sounds fine, right? No, and here's why. 1. Pirate freighting is cheaper, but it means that money otherwise spent on supplying local jobs, and by extension, circulating through local economies, is being sent away to sit in some vault in the Ankaratra or a swiss bank. I don't care how many state yachts Nassau splurges on, that is a fraction of what they make.
2. This gives the Republics a ridiculous amount of influence over countries that mainly use their freighting system. This is the main reason you see so many governments try to avoid the topic or argue against another pirate war, lest their economy tanks with the stroke of a pen. Morocco is a great case study of this.
Not to mention they have a presence in every royal court and do plenty of political "philanthropy" (read: bribery) in the land republics. Why do you think air travel is so overtaxed? They say there's an "environmental concern", but aircraft keep getting more fuel efficient and larger cabins every year. Now, I can't necessarily prove that the pirates are doing it, as there's plenty of environmentalists out there too. But consider the fact their own intelligence agencies stalled the adaptation of the airplane for decades, and suddenly its not a long shot whatsoever.
These pirate "nations" are just mafias at sea. They have no reason to exist, so I say we take our oceans back!

♛ extra! by princess adelaide windsor
following in the footsteps of her father, prince james windsor, who recently released his tell-all book ‘SPARE’, three years after the family stepped down from their royal titles, the youngest princess is now telling her side of the story. although now a new york times best seller, the book is being criticized for it’s elaborate fabrications, out of place stories and general nature of entitlement. under the cut are some quotes from the book.
“gran-gran, who you may know as the queen (r.i.p girlie pop) had a corgi fetish, like, it was actually absurd. and anytime i slept at her house, those little wiener looking freakazoids would climb into my bed chambers and hump mr. giggleman mcgee, the stuffed sloth that i’ve had since i was a baby, gifted to me by my lovely godparents david and victoria…beckham, you’ve heard of them, right? anyway, one night, corgi #5 literally wouldn’t stop so i picked it up, carried it outside buckingham palace and let it go into the streets of london to fend for it’s weird, horny self. i helped make the missing puppy posters that the guards hung all over london, but i knew the truth. and i knew that no one fucked with mr. giggleman mcgee.” -  adelaide windsor chapter 4 ‘the corgis from hell vs. me and mr. giggleman mcgee - i always win.’
“i was devastated. i felt like my whole world was crashing down around me. it was like, totally worse than if they were to ever discontinue the shade jungle red at nars - they gave me an audi instead of a bugatti, when my dear cousin, little miss perfect charlotte, had gotten a bugatti for her sweet sixteen the year before. i knew right then and there that they hated me. so that’s why i drove it into the river thames - not because i was drunk, but because the car was super duper ugly.“ - adelaide windsor, chapter 6 ‘the not so sweet sixteen’
“it was a friday night at cirque le soir and i totally won’t blow up his spot and say names…so let’s just tall him gugh hrant, was quite literally looking at me like a panther looks at it’s prey. and i was just like obsessed much? so after i did some bumps off of the fingernail of a famous british model with fabulous eyebrows that was like bffs with that creep karl lagerfeld, i won’t name names agian, so let’s call her dara celevigne, i followed him outside when he stepped out to smoke and let’s just say, this man had totally seen better days. it was a really pathetic time, he prob forgot to take his viagra, so i like closed my eyes and just pretended he was his character in notting hill.’  .  - adelaide windsor, chapter 9 ‘running up notting hill.’
“they were the most selfish little twits i’ve ever met in my life. who the hell has a twenty second anniversary vow renewal? apparently they do. as if their wedding wasn’t gaudy enough - not that i was there, but aunty cate certainly didn’t look as pretty as my mom did on her wedding day, her frown lines were already out in full force. i was like way too old to be a flower girl, but they insisted on making me one and they put me in this bridgerton looking bullshit that i literally couldn’t breathe in. like you know when you and your friends get held hostage on the coast of morocco on a pirate ship and they like, put a bag over your head and scream at you to give them all your money? that’s totally what this dress felt like. and the worst part? i had just gotten back from my tour of the arctic, so my nips were still completely frostbitten, but aunty cate and uncle willy didn’t care, they wouldn’t even reschedule and forced me to wear that dress that my nips were poking out of the entire time!” - adelaide windsor, chapter 11 ‘as cold as ice’
“after gran died i was like, extra sad-ish i guess. but i got to inherit so much of her fabulous jewelry because i was obviously her favorite. charlotte always thought she was the favorite but charlotte has also always been a dumb twit. after the funeral i was wearing one of the necklaces she gave me and charlotte was just like, totally jealous, so she attacked me and tried to rip the necklace off my neck! of course, she spun it and made it seem like i was fighting with her because she had been spotted on a date with the prince of greece who i literally dated when i was fifteen…like, sloppy seconds much? but that little bitch has always been jealous of me and always made me look like the crazy one. and that was the last day i ever spoke to her. she stuffs her bra, btw. pathetic, right? like, just get a boob job, you loser.” - adelaide windsor, chapter 14 ‘cousins by blood, enemies by choice’
'when my parents told me and my brothers that we were leaving and relinquishing our royal titles, i was fuming. i mean, nobody in the family pulls off a crown the way i do, so i got a little desperate. if i couldn’t be the princess of the uk, i was totally going to be the princess of something. so i started like, banging a bunch of royal dudes - saudi arabia, denmark, spain, japan, belgium, denmark again because he had a hotter older brother that just got divorced, i mean, you name it. i totally became the united nations of royal men. but then i realized, i don’t need a title to be royal, i’m literally the most perfect human ever. so i made the move, titles left behind, and i’ve made a name for myself here. sure, i’ve only been in a few t.v shows, but world domination is totally on the way. wait, you guys saw euphoria right? how good did my tits look in it? see! there was no lasting damage left behind from the frostbite incident!’   - adelaide windsor, chapter 18 ’america and the beautiful….it’s me, i’m the beautiful.’
