What Does a Wellness and Health Coach Do?
A health and wellness coach helps clients strengthen their connections to key ideas in the field of health and wellbeing. This could involve things like diet, exercise, sleep, mindfulness, and more. For a few good reasons, this resource's popularity has increased significantly:
Preventive health is becoming increasingly important, and people are becoming more conscious of this. People are more interested in developing healthy practices to stop these issues from happening in the first place than they are in treating health problems as they occur.
The rise in chronic illnesses including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease has brought attention to the importance of habit counseling and mindset support for those who are afflicted with these problems.
Many people are seeking assistance in managing their mental and emotional well-being as a result of the stress and uncertainties of modern living.
Every person's road to health and wellness is unique. Our wellness-focused coaches at Katie Kovaleski employ a tailored approach to identify the underlying causes of clients' health problems and create practical programs that produce long-lasting outcomes. (No crash diets or complex exercise regimens here.
What Does a Coach for Health and Wellness Do?
Utilizing tried-and-true coaching techniques focused on achieving clients' health and wellbeing goals, a health and wellness coach works with clients. This requires a mix of routine labor, such as contemplation, self-evaluation, goal-setting, progress monitoring, and ongoing accountability.
At Katie Kovaleski, we go above and beyond the traditional coaching model to give our customers access to a comprehensive network of support. Weekly meetings between coaches and customers take place through our virtual coaching app and dashboard. This all-encompassing perspective serves as the cornerstone of our coaches' training program.
Additionally, we are aware that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to enhancing health and fitness. It necessitates individualized approaches that take into account each person's particular needs, preferences, and objectives. Our trainers provide a welcoming and uncritical atmosphere. Our approach is to listen, comprehend, and lead clients toward sustainable solutions that are in line with their individual values and ambitions rather than simply giving them advice.

Addressing Sleep Challenges: Pediatric Sleep Disorders and Solutions
In today's fast-paced world, sleep is a precious commodity, and it's no different for our little ones. Pediatric sleep disorders can have a significant impact on a child's health and development. As parents, we must be vigilant and proactive in addressing these challenges to ensure our children get the restorative sleep they need. In this blog, we'll delve into common pediatric sleep disorders and explore effective solutions while emphasizing the importance of oral health. Mason Park,Katy - Dental for Kids understands the connection between sleep and oral health, making it a priority to educate parents on this crucial aspect of child development.
Tumblr media
Pediatric Sleep Disorders: An Overview
Sleep Apnea: One of the most prevalent pediatric sleep disorders is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA occurs when a child's airway is partially or completely blocked during sleep, leading to interruptions in breathing. This condition can result in snoring, restless sleep, and even daytime fatigue. Identifying OSA early is vital as it can impact a child's cognitive development and behavior.
Night Terrors and Nightmares: These nighttime disturbances are common in infants children, often starting around the age of 3. Night terrors involve intense, fear-filled episodes where the child may scream and thrash about. Nightmares, on the other hand, are vivid dreams that can be distressing. Both can disrupt a child's sleep cycle.
Insomnia: While we often associate insomnia with adults, children can also experience difficulty falling or staying asleep. Insomnia can result from various factors, including stress, anxiety, or changes in routine.
Solutions to Pediatric Sleep Disorders
Consult a Pediatric Sleep Specialist: If you suspect your child has a sleep disorder, it's crucial to seek professional help. A pediatric sleep specialist can conduct a thorough evaluation and recommend appropriate interventions.
Sleep Hygiene: Establishing good sleep hygiene is essential for all children, whether they have a sleep disorder or not. Encourage a consistent bedtime routine, limit screen time before bed, and create a calm and comfortable sleep environment.
Behavioral Therapy: In some cases, behavioral therapy can help children overcome sleep disorders. Techniques such as relaxation exercises and positive reinforcement can be effective.
The Connection Between Sleep and Oral Health
Now, let's delve into the relationship between sleep and oral health, a topic that Mason Park - Dental for Kids holds dear.
Tooth Decay Prevention: Adequate sleep is crucial for maintaining a child's overall health, including their oral health. When children don't get enough sleep, they may be more prone to consuming sugary foods and beverages, which can increase the risk of tooth decay. By addressing sleep disorders, we indirectly contribute to tooth decay prevention.
Gum Disease Prevention: Gum disease can be a concern for children, especially if they have poor oral hygiene habits. Lack of sleep can weaken the immune system, making it harder for the body to combat gum disease. Prioritizing sleep helps support a robust immune system and, in turn, gum disease prevention. Nowadays medical students are taught all types of dental aspects when they are in medical college. These helps in future when they start treating their patients.
Cavities Prevention: Cavities are a common dental issue among children. In such cases care for children is a must that one should not forget. A consistent sleep schedule that includes adequate restorative sleep plays a role in preventing cavities. During deep sleep, saliva production increases, helping to neutralize acids and protect teeth from decay.
Bridge Implants and Gum Recession: Although these are typically adult dental concerns, it's essential to establish good oral habits in childhood. Quality sleep contributes to better overall health, which can lead to stronger gums and teeth as children grow into adults.
Mason Park - Dental for Kids: Your Partner in Pediatric Oral Health
At Mason Park - Dental for Kids, we understand the intricate relationship between sleep, oral health, and your child's overall well-being. Our dedicated team of pediatric dentists and hygienists is committed to providing primary care for your child's dental needs.
Here are some ways we support your child's oral health:
Regular Check-ups: We recommend regular dental check-ups to monitor your child's oral health and address any concerns promptly.
Oral Hygiene Education: We educate children and parents alike on the importance of proper oral hygiene practices, such as brushing and flossing.
Nutrition Guidance: We offer guidance on a balanced diet to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
Sleep and Oral Health: We emphasize the connection between sleep and oral health, providing tips on how to improve both.
Conclusion
Pediatric sleep disorders are a reality for many families, but they can be effectively managed with the right knowledge and support. As parents, it's essential to prioritize our children's sleep, as it has a profound impact on their physical and oral health. By addressing sleep challenges and partnering with experts like Mason Park - Dental for Kids, we can ensure our children grow up with healthy smiles and well-rested bodies. Remember, a good night's sleep is not just a luxury; it's a necessity for our little ones' overall well-being.

⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅
"Alright!" Jungkook greets everyone in his department, walking around to find all computer screens dark. "What's going on here?" He asks, tapping at the keyboard- but nothing springs to life.
"Jimin jinxed the shift about half an hour ago." Namjoon, an emergency physician and also best friend of Jungkook's, sighs. "Said the 'Q-word', now all the computers down here and in pediatrics' crashed. They've sent someone out already though." He explains.
"Oh come on now-" Jungkook whines. "-three weeks leave and you come back and drop something like this? Go back to where you came from!" He jokingly curses at his friend, who just rolls his eyes.
"Don't you have to be in your own department, Doctor Jeon?" He asks playfully sarcastic, making his friend laugh, as he grabs his water bottle and some files, before he does just that.
Jungkook has been working in the hybrid care department for almost five whole years at this point. He's one of only a few specialists in the country- making his department pretty busy most of the time. But he doesn't mind it- he's studied his ass off for a reason, pursued this career because he truly wanted it. So in a way, he's proud to be the one many people trust in.
He greets fellow members of staff- some he knows, other's he's not too familiar with, before he finally enters the familiar hallways, starting his day.
⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅
When Jungkook was still in school, he didn't have any ambitions at all.
He's not the kind of doctor who always wanted to be one ever since he was a kid- in fact, quite the opposite. He remembers his mother always telling him how terrified he was as a child to have to go to a doctor, even if it was just for a regular check up, or flu shot. It scared him, the needles and strange people and noises- but by now, they've become normal, routing, comforting even in certain cases.
At the beginning, he wanted to be a pediatrician. Work with kids, cause that seemed to be the easiest for him back then. But then, things changed.
He changed.
Watching someone die in front of you can be life changing- sometimes just a moment, but other times for your entire future as well. He remembers the young cat hybrid playing with him, without a care in the world. They were both not even fifteen when the young boy suddenly fell, for no apparent reason, and never woke up. He'd seen him be worked on, watched from the sidelines, frozen in place. Could he have done something?
In hindsight, he knows there was really nothing he could've done to prevent things from happening. It wasn't his fault- but simply a problem in the system, back then.
Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome had been, and is still, not something entirely uncommon in human children, hybrids, and even more common in infant hybrids than anyone else. Untreated heart arrhythmia, combined with a change in blood pressure, rush of adrenaline, or even just sleep- things he now knows, but back then, had been absolute horror to him.
To imagine that the young boy simply died because people didn't check properly still hangs heavy on his mind.
It's why he chose to study them, instead of work at his father's restaurant. Chose to be different, make a change, even if it's just a drop in a bucket not even halfway filled. He's not going to simply shrug his shoulders when he can't find a reason for someone being sick. He's not going to be told that he simply didn't do his work properly.
He's one of the most active doctors around. Has inspired some others to be more on-patient as well. And it fills him with pride, knowing that he can influence the hospital staff in that way.
"Ah, there you are." A doctor with a grim expression calls out, grabbing his coat. "Was just looking for you. I've got the CT back for the otter hybrid in 210." He says, holding some papers out for him to check out. "It's not conclusive, but considering that she's never had it happen before, I'd agree with you on encephalitis, honestly. Temperature's been climbing steadily, and nurses said she's complaining of stomach pain too." He nods. "Though I want to see her personally together with you, if you've got time." The man asks, and Jungkook nods.
"Of course. You know I trust you most with things like this." He nods, walking to the room in question with his friend next to him.
Min Yoongi is his name, and most of the staff around here don't like him all that much.
Mostly because the neurologist barks demands and commands around like a testosterone filled wolf hybrid, and walks around as if someone had pissed bladder stones in his iced americano he drinks every hour of the day. Only the people who witness him talk to the hybrids and younger patients around know, that there's a lot more to the medical professional than he lets on.
And he's also great with the angry drunk people- because what he lacks in height, he makes up for in scary when he wants to.
"Hello there!" Jungkook chimes up at the young otter hybrid in question sitting on her bed, monitors beeping in rhythm as they approach her- her owner sitting close by. "Do you remember me?" Jungkook asks, while the nurse adjusts the drip of medication on the side. The hybrid shakes her head, before she looks around again- sometimes staring in interest at the other, shorter doctor next to Jungkook. "No? That's okay." He chuckles, walking closer with his friend and colleague in tow, who takes out a pen with a light on the other end. "My friend here is a bit quiet just like you are, but I heard you can call him Yoongi if you want." He chuckles, making the doctor roll his eyes at the common joke Jungkook tends to make.
"Just look at me for a moment, alright?" Yoongi questions, trying to grab the hybrid's attention. "I know he's handsome but I'm not too bad either, am I?" He jokes, making the other hybrid smile a bit shyly as she nods. It makes him smile as well, as he checks the pupil's reaction, satisfied with his results before he turns the light off, tucks the pen away in his front pocket. "Can you tell me what day we have?" He asks.
"…monday." The meek hybrid answers, looking at Jungkook with her big brown eyes. They remind him of his own, back when he was a kid.
"Monday, alright." Yoongi nods to himself. "Do you know where you are?" He questions further, owner scooting a bit closer as he watches everything with a nurturing gaze.
"Home?" The otter answers a little unsure, before something near the window grabs her attention. "Birds." She chimes up, and Yoongi chuckles a little.
"I know, there's a lot outside there, hm?" He nods, before he tabs her leg to gain her gaze back. "Can you tell me your name? You've not introduced yourself yet." He asks, hunching a bit over to make himself less of a threat. Though, it's clear that the hybrid patient has got no fear really.
"…Min?" she asks, pointing at his name embroidered into his coat. Yoongi nods.
"Hm, disoriented in time, place and person." He tells the nurse he's noticed come in behind him, voice a lot more authorative and deep as he talks to the staff. He knows the young student doesn't mind. He shouldn't, really. 'you're still too soft for the real deal', he'd told him only yesterday after the poor guy had been found crying outside the hospital after witnessing his first cardiac arrest. 'Don't take it home.' he'd patted his shoulder- a rare gesture of compassion, before he'd left the young student by himself.
They both excuse themselves for a moment, Yoongi scratching the back of his head before he puts his head in his pockets. "Blood test?" He asks, and Jungkook shrugs.
"Didn't get it back yet- the lab computers crashed, because Jimin said the Q-word this morning." He chuckles, crossing his arms. "But they should come in any minute, same as urine."
"I'd still like to take her for an EEG, just to make sure." Yoongi nods to himself, grabbing his little pager that starts to chime obnoxiously. "I'm wanted in majors right now, but I'll tell them to schedule it." The neurologist tells his coworker, already walking off- and Jungkook nods, shouts a thank-you after him, before he enters the room again to give the owner the proper updates.
⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅
A few days later, Jungkook is getting ready for his twelve-hour shift at the emergency department, rolling up the sleeves of his shirt when he hears the familiar shuffling of his best friend's slides on the smooth hospital floor coming closer.
"Alright park-" Yoongi walks in, making the nurse in question snap his head around at the sound of his voice. "-you're stuck with me for the next 12 hours, and if I hear you drop that Q-word one fucking time I swear to god I'll piss in your energy drink the moment you're not looking." He threatens, making Jungkook chuckle as he clips on his nametag, and checks for his ID card and other necessities he will need.
"It slipped out okay?!" Jimin whines, though everyone knows he did it on purpose.
Jimin is a senior nurse- and very good at his job. Even if everyone jokes around with him, he's still a person of authority, and even people like Min Yoongi respect him for his work a lot. He pulls a huge weight after all, working almost always in the emergency department by choice, a very compassionate person with deep care for every patient that comes in.
"Alright, I'll go try and get myself some coffee-" Jungkook starts, when suddenly, a voice rings out.
"Adult male hybrid trauma in 10, Adult male hybrid trauma in 10."- and everyone looks at the doctor with sympathy, Yoongi patting his back as he walks by.
"Seems like your caffeine has to wait, kid." He jokes, as Jungkook throws his head back. The moment of rare playfulness with the man lasts for a moment, before he turns around to write something down. "I don't know if you've all forgotten that ten stands for ten minutes and you've wasted two of them already, but if you don't want me to remove all chairs here again-" He threatens, finishing his writing, "-I better see you all on your feet before the time left hits 7." The doctor scolds, forcing everyone to scramble and get everything in order and ready for the arrival of the call.
Everyone's now getting ready when the door opens, paramedics entering with the patient, rolling the young man into the spot the medical staff want him- or rather, where Namjoon, the leading emergency doctor, had said he will want him. He'd just started his shift as well, having only really had time to wash his hands and get a bit of info on what's to come, as he now get's filled in by the paramedic.
"So his name is Hajoon, 22 year old canine hybrid, owner has called after he's been hit by a bus." The man offers, while everyone else starts assessing him. "No visible head injuries, no disorientation whatsoever, was conscious at scene but has drifted off a little from the medication we've given." Yoongi stands by closely, listening to everything with a serious face. "Definite pelvis fracture and broken humerus, full sensation and ability to move the lower arm, hand and fingers so no apparent nerve injury." The man with the name tag 'Kim Seokjin' reads all the medication given from his clipboard, filling everyone in on what's happened until now. "He's usually a very active and healthy guy, no underlining health issues whatsoever, vaccines are all up to date, and owner is on it's way as we speak." He finishes, and Namjoon nods, having soaked up all the information flowing around while everyone else does what they can.
"Alright let's send him out for CT right away to check for any internal injuries and to catch a good look at the fractures, and I want a Hybrid Special's to look at him right after. Until then we'll lower down the medications to get him conscious again, We can switch to something else regarding the pain later but I want him up and alert, the faster the better." Namjoon calls out, and everyone moves to do what's been told.
Jungkook is watching from the sidelines for now, waiting for the first scuffle to clear up as the young man is being cared for.
"Haven't seen each other in a while." Seokjin says from the side with a soft smile, washing his hands after he'd given his notes to the younger doctor. "Hope your break has been good."
"Yeah well, you know me." Jungkook offers kindly, looking through the patient's records. "Can't really keep still for long. Was he actually fully conscious when you guys got to him?" The young doctor wonders, and Seokjin nods.
"Was pretty surprised. He was folded like a pretzel, obviously complaining, but entirely alert." He shakes his head. "It's surprising what they can endure, really." He chats, before he gets ready to leave again, saying goodbyes.
Jungkook knows that he'll see him again sooner than he'd like to, probably.
"Doctor Jeon?" Jimin chimes playfully after a while of calm in the emergency room, and Jungkook looks up from the clipboard, already used to the older one's antics. "Namjoon wants you to check out the CT upstairs." He informs him, and Jungkook nods, making his way to the proper department, greeting some staff on his way before he enters the room.
"Ah, Jungkook. Here, you might wanna see this." He says, letting the young doctor walk closer to check out the scan images.
Jungkook can't help but shake his head. "Well that's gonna be fun to put back together." Jungkook snorts to himself. "Hoseok's gonna have the time of his life pulling that one off."
"Well he always brags how good he is-" Namjoon shrugs, crossing his arms. "So he'll have more to show off if he gets that boy up and running again." He jokes, before they pull him back out and into the hallway. It's on the way back when the young man starts to move, eyeing his surroundings as he becomes conscious again. "Oh- hello there, please stay like this okay? You're fine." Namjoon immediately reassures. "My name is Doctor Kim I'm a doctor at Seoul Central Hospital, do you know what happened to you? He asks, and the young man nods, groaning a bit in pain.
"Let's give him some pain relief but please don't knock him out again okay?" Namjoon suggests, while Jungkook looks over the young man, instantly in work-mode as he looks out for any potential signs that his situation could slip to the worse. "Jungkook can you ask someone to fetch Hoseok for me please? I want him to schedule surgery asap." He says, and Jungkook nods, already off to find a nurse.
⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅
Jungkook can sometimes be seen as scarier looking than he is.
He's got a pretty muscular body, tattoos he knows the hospital only tolerates because he's the only specialist they got their hands on, and piercings as well. He also tends to not wear his doctor's coat all that much- rather dressed in casual-formal wear, sleeves rolled up and nametag stuck to his front shirt pocket. Not to be a rebel- but because it makes people feel a bit more at ease with him, especially the hybrids who tend to be easily frightened and withdrawn in hospitals.
"Hey, before I go-" Jungkook says, walking past Jimin who's also ready to end his shift. "-do you know what happened to the canine hybrid from this morning? Hajoon, wasn't it?" He asks, and Jimin lights up, nodding.
"Was confused for quite a while, but after Yoongi had worked his magic with him, he finally responded to everything." He chuckles. With 'working his magic', he's talking about Yoongi's rather.. commanding tone of voice, something he does often when he notices a patient being capable of responding, but simply too 'lazy' to do so. It can come off as a bit harsh sometimes, but he means well- and after his words had found listening ears, it had reassured everyone including the rather distressed elderly owner in her chair at the side. "Here, let me pull up…" Jimin says, typing some things on the computer, before he pulls up some x-ray images. "Look at that!" He laughs, and Jungkook shakes his head in disbelief.
"And he's gonna be all good?" He asks, Jimin nodding in response.
"Hoseok said he's probably going to walk again just fine in a few months. And he'll have a pretty interesting story to tell every time he gets screened at the airport from now on." The nurse jokes, making Jungkook laugh. "Oh, and I heard Yunhee was discharged today, wasn't she?" He asks about the otter hybrid who had, indeed, caught encephalitis- an infection affecting the brain.
"Yeah- pretty much demanded I'd get Yoongi though so she could give him a goodbye-hug." He chuckles, and Jimin puts his hand to his heart.
"I wish he would give me a hug too!" He complains, and both laugh, very much aware that that will probably never happen at all with the rather stoic and withdrawn neurologist. And with the reassurance that today, he's been able to help save a life yet again, Jungkook walks into the staff room; takes off his nametag, puts on his jacket, his shoes-
waving everyone goodbye, after an exhausting twelve hour shift.
Just to do it all over again the next week rolls around.

As Mark trailed me through the chaos of the trauma bay, his persistent presence grated on my nerves like sandpaper against skin. "Come on, really?!" he groaned, his voice a constant background noise amidst the urgent flurry of activity.
I snapped, whirling around to face him with a sharpness born of frustration. My momentum almost carried me into his chest, but I held my ground, meeting his gaze head-on. "Mark!" I snapped, my tone sharp and clipped. "Either lend a hand with a patient or give me some breathing room. Your constant badgering isn't doing anyone any favors!"
Despite our recent agreement, Mark seemed unwilling to let the matter rest. Two weeks had passed, yet he continued to push for renegotiation, his persistence bordering on exasperating. "All I'm asking for is a reconsideration of the terms, maybe some clarification?" he pleaded, his voice tinged with desperation as he trailed after me like a persistent shadow.
I raised an eyebrow at his persistence, feeling the weight of his expectations pressing down on me. "I'm pretty sure pestering me about the deal violates the terms of the deal, doesn't it?" I countered, my patience wearing thin as I paused by a patient's bedside to assess their condition.
Mark's response came quick and defensive, as if he feared he had crossed an invisible line. "It doesn't!" he insisted, his words tinged with a hint of uncertainty.
Turning my attention back to the young girl before me, I pushed aside the distraction of Mark's relentless pursuit. The patient needed my focus, her frightened eyes pleading for reassurance amidst the chaos of the emergency room. "Mark, we can discuss this later," I relented, my voice softened by compassion as I comforted the child. "But for now, could you please page pediatrics? This little girl needs help."
Mark's silence spoke volumes, a tacit acknowledgment that my promise of a future conversation had quelled his insistence, at least for the moment. With a sense of relief, he hurried off to find Arizona, leaving me to tend to the young patient in need of care.
Tumblr media
After endless hours of rushing through the ER—performing emergency surgeries, consulting with specialists, endlessly paging colleagues, chastising interns, and offering solace to nurses—I finally reached the moment to clock out and head home.
Arriving at the lounge, it was already four in the morning, marking a shift spanning over twenty-four hours. Despite the exhaustion, there was no other place I'd rather be. Being there for people during their darkest moments gave me a sense of purpose, making the world feel a bit brighter and more hopeful.
Sighing with relief, I settled onto the bench in front of my locker to change my shoes. The door creaked open, but I was too drained to look up. My senses jolted when I felt strong hands on my shoulders, instantly relaxing as they worked out the knots in my neck.
"Derek, the least you could've done was announce yourself," I chided weakly, my eyelids drooping with the soothing massage. "You nearly gave me a heart attack… I could've…"
My voice trailed off as I surrendered to the blissful sensation of his skilled hands. Derek remained silent, and if he replied, I was too ensnared by sleep to hear. As fatigue overtook me, I imagined soft lips planting a tender kiss on my temple before I was lifted and carried to a far more comfortable spot than the hard bench. Drifting into oblivion, I couldn't discern where I was headed, enveloped in the security of those warm arms cradling me against a sturdy chest.
Tumblr media
The morning sunlight filtering through the blinds gradually roused me from my deep sleep. Blinking groggily, I found myself in a familiar yet unfamiliar setting—the on-call room at the hospital. Confusion clouded my mind momentarily as I struggled to recall how I ended up here.
Pushing myself up into a sitting position, I glanced around, noticing the empty space beside me. Memories of being carried to this room flooded back, but the identity of the person who had carried me remained shrouded in the haze of sleep.
Shaking off the remnants of drowsiness, I resolved to seek out the one who had assisted me—or rather, who I thought had assisted me. With a slight sense of anticipation tinged with apprehension, I made my way through the corridors to Derek's office.
Knocking lightly on the door, I waited for a response. When it swung open, my heart skipped a beat as Derek's familiar figure stood before me. "Hey," I began tentatively, "thanks for last night. I appreciate—"
Before I could finish my sentence, Derek's brow furrowed in confusion. "Last night?" he echoed, his expression puzzled.
Realization dawned on me slowly as I processed his words. "Wait… it wasn't you?" I murmured, feeling a knot of embarrassment forming in my stomach.
Derek shook his head, his confusion deepening. "No, I haven't seen you since yesterday afternoon."
My cheeks flushed with embarrassment as the truth sank in. If it wasn't Derek who had carried me to bed last night, then…
As the pieces fell into place, I turned to see Mark standing nearby, wearing a sheepish expression. "You… it was you," I murmured, feeling a mixture of embarrassment and genuine gratitude.
Mark nodded sheepishly. "Yeah, I saw you asleep on the bench and thought you needed somewhere to properly sleep. Sorry for the mix-up."
As Mark's smirk widened, a sense of resignation settled over me. I could practically predict his next words before they even left his lips. "Can I call in my favor now?" he asked, his tone laced with playful anticipation.
With a weary sigh, I dropped my head, bracing myself for the inevitable. Derek's laughter echoed from the doorway, adding to the surreal moment. "Let me guess," I muttered, feeling a mixture of defeat and amusement, "you want to take me out on a date."
In perfect synchronization, Mark blurted out, "Can I take you out on a date?"
The irony of the situation wasn't lost on me. I groaned inwardly, knowing there was no way out of this. "Fine, fine," I relented, my voice carrying a hint of resignation. "You can take me out."
Mark's expression shifted to one of skepticism, his eyes narrowing slightly. "And you'll actually try?" he teased, his voice tinged with doubt.
With a roll of my eyes, I reluctantly agreed, feeling a mix of reluctance and curiosity. "I'll actually try," I conceded, already bracing myself for whatever adventure Mark had in mind.

The day of the date arrived amidst the usual chaos of the ER. As the attending physician, my schedule was packed with emergencies, consultations, and the constant buzz of activity that defined life in the hospital.
Despite the whirlwind of responsibilities, I found myself stealing glances at the clock throughout the day, counting down the hours until the evening. Thoughts of the impending date with Mark lingered at the back of my mind, a mix of nervousness and curiosity churning within me.
Between attending to patients and coordinating with the medical team, I couldn't help but wonder how the evening would unfold. Mark, the plastic surgery attending, was undoubtedly accustomed to a different pace of life compared to the frenetic energy of the emergency room. Would he find our date as overwhelming as I found his world of cosmetic procedures and aesthetic enhancements?
Despite my reservations and the knot of discomfort in my stomach, I couldn't ignore the fact that Mark had been persistent in his pursuit for years. His reputation as a known player and his past indiscretions, including sleeping with my best friend, left a bitter taste in my mouth. Yet, his relentless pestering had finally worn me down, leading me to reluctantly agree to this date.
As I prepared for the evening, a mixture of emotions swirled within me. Anger, disappointment, and a lingering sense of betrayal warred with the faint glimmer of curiosity and the possibility of something new. Despite my better judgment, I couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps there was more to Mark than met the eye.
Arriving at the restaurant after the hospital had calmed down enough for me to feel comfortable with leaving, I braced myself for the encounter, steeling my resolve as I stepped through the door. The soft glow of candlelight and the murmur of conversation enveloped me, creating an atmosphere that felt both intimate and nerve-wracking.
Spotting Mark across the room, a wave of conflicting emotions washed over me. Resentment mingled with a begrudging acknowledgment of his persistence, tempered by a cautious curiosity about what the evening might entail.
Taking a deep breath, I squared my shoulders and approached him, determined to give this date a chance despite my reservations. After all, perhaps there was more to Mark than his reputation suggested, and maybe, just maybe, tonight would offer a glimpse beneath the surface.

Time for a story - Training Day
Tumblr media
As her hands continue flying over the keyboard effortlessly, Felicity got carried away by the calming clickety-clack her fingers created by hitting the keys. It could have possibly lulled her to sleep, but the many mugs of coffee she had had since she got gotten up this morning was preventing her from falling asleep. Instead, she was entirely focused on the task at hand.
After some long weeks full of analyzing the present, it was finally time to sketch out her vision for the future. She had done her research by using the databases that she could access legally, half-legally or even illegally. She had talked to a large number of experts from all over the world. She had even consultant some specialists in other fields of work to have some different perspectives on the matter.
Now it was time to think about the future and her goals for the future though. She wasn’t surprised that she felt inspired in this matter. She was a mother of six children by now and although one was her stepchild and another her fosterling, she was their mother in one way or the other nonetheless. With Mia being sick, she knew how important it was to move the branch of medical engineering in the pediatric field forward. Even without Mia, just the thought of one of her children falling sick would be enough to push her motivation.
Felicity knew that a corporation between Queen Incorporated and Wayne Enterprise was powerful. They had the reputation and money to employ the best of people. When they entered that branch of work, some other companies might to as a way to show that they could keep up with these two companies. Even if their corporation didn’t lead to any success, and their competitors managed to invent the best of medical devices for children, outshining Queen Incorporated and Wayne Enterprise, it would be worth it. The results were more important than who obtained this time.
Even the soft knock at the door didn’t make Felicity stop. She lifted her gaze briefly to see her PA Emily stick her head into the room.
“I know I should take a break,” Felicity said, her eyes already fixated on the monitor again, “and I will do so in a minute or two. I just want to-“
“I actually didn’t come to remind you to take a break.”
That made Felicity falter in her work after all. Her fingers stopped, still hovering over the keyboard, as she lifted her gaze towards her personal assistant once more. Emily had opened the door further now, standing there and looking at her. Felicity perked up an eyebrow at her, watching her with a little bit of doubt. She knew that Oliver had urged her to encourage Felicity to take regular breaks. She couldn’t hold it against him since she had asked her assistant Becky the same.
For some reason Felicity believed what Emily told her though.
“What else is it?”
“You’ve got a visitor.”
Felicity frowned briefly and turned her eyes back to the monitors. She skimmed through the last passage she had written and hurried to bring it to an end.
“A visitor?” she asked in the meantime. “I don’t recall any appointments for the day except for the one with Mr. Wayne, and he certainly isn’t here yet. He texted me this morning that he might actually be late.”
“Indeed it’s not him,” Emily said, “but a young woman who seems particularly determined to see you.”
Emily’s words made Felicity stop once more. This time, she didn’t let her fingers hover over the keyboard for any longer. She dropped them into her lap instead. She didn’t want to go right back to work, at least not before she had found out what had stopped Emily from turning that young woman down. Usually, she didn’t have a problem turning unexpected and unwanted visitors down.
“What is it?”
Felicity didn’t need to specify her question for Emily to understand. She had worked for Felicity long enough to know what that question was supposed to mean.
“Well-“
Stopping, Emily turned her head back over her shoulder. She looked towards her desk where Felicity guessed her visitor stood. When Emily did look back at her again, she frowned.
“I think you should see for yourself.”
Although Felicity really didn’t want to interrupt her work for whatever work was waiting for her outside of her office, she trusted Emily’s judgement. So with a low sigh and nod of her head she gave her permission for her visitor to be led in to her. With a few keyboard shortcuts, she saved the last changes she had made and hurried to close the report as well as password-lock and hide it somewhere safe.
The monitor went back to the desktop right when the door was opened and a young woman stepped into the office. Felicity leaned back in her chair and put on a smile that faded the moment her visitor lifted her gaze towards her, letting her see right into her eyes.
The young woman was tall with long legs and a slim figure. Her hips and shoulders were slender, her waist even smaller. Her face was heart-shaped with full lips and deep blue eyes. Her cheeks were flushed pink. Her light blonde hair was pulled into a high, messy ponytail, some loose strands falling into her face in soft waves and curls.
Although the eyes had definitely alarmed her at first, it was the overall picture that she was offered that told Felicity who was standing in front of her.
“Addie?”
That Felicity understood who was standing in front of her didn’t mean that it made any sense to her. Just a couple of hours ago, she had fed the three years old, little morning grouch Addie some toast for breakfast before she had kissed her goodbye for the day and left her in Raisa’s good care.
How could she possibly understand – even with everything crazy she had experienced already – that a very much adult Addie was standing right in front of her now.
Adult Addie on the other hand seemed quite less bothered or confused by the situation although Felicity hoped that she had seen or at least talked to a much older version of her mother in these past few days too. Maybe it was simply because she had already known where she was and which year it was, so she had been prepared in some way.
Smiling quietly, Addie said, “Of course you’d recognize me.”
Felicity, although her head felt full of thoughts and completely empty at the same time, nodded slightly. “Of course I would. You are my daughter.”
“Well, at least in fifteen years I am.”
Fifteen years, Felicity thought to herself. In fifteen years, her little daughter would have grown into this beautiful woman.
As much as Felicity would like to reverent about all of this, she knew there were serious questions to ask. She didn’t have much experience with time-traveling. The fact that people traveled between alternative universes was still too much for her to take, so how could she fathom that people were traveling through time? After all and for a lot of reasons, it actually didn’t make sense.
Addie crossed the distance slowly, hesitated and then simply dropped into the chair at the other side of the desk. She sat down comfortably, putting her arms to the armrests and crossing her legs. Her eyes rested on her mother’s face calmly.
“How did you get here?” Felicity asked, unable to bite back that question. “I mean, I am sure that traveling through time is not-“
“Training days can get tricky.” Addie shrugged her shoulders and chuckled. “Admittedly, they don’t end up like this often, and it never happened to me, but stuff gets messed up all the time.”
Felicity was not sure that she understood. Time traveling wasn’t something that had a place in their lives. She knew that it was different for the team in Central City, but here? They didn’t do time travels. Felicity wouldn’t even know why because – even if they ignored that time traveling just went against all logic – they didn’t have a speedster around here.
“How did you get lost in the timeline?” Felicity asked, frowning at her daughter. “Are there ways to travel through time by using technology in the future or can you travel through time for some reason or-?”
“I can’t.”
At Addie’s interruption, Felicity cocked her head and narrowed her eyes at her youngest – even though right now actually oldest – daughter. If Addie couldn’t travel through time, either technology had been processed to make it possible or someone else had made her get lost in time.
“I can’t tell you more.” Addie smiled somewhat amusedly. “Time traveling rules and all, you know?”
She seemed to enjoy saying that, and Felicity wondered if maybe she had been reminded of this particular rule by her mother a lot. It would certainly be a nice way to get back on her for that.
Although Felicity still wondered what role exactly time traveling had in their futures, a different and possibly more important question came to her mind.
“Wait, wait, did you say training day?” Felicity asked, hurrying to lean forward and rest her forearms on the tabletop as she eyed up Addie suspiciously. “Training for what exactly?”
“Uhm… so…”
Addie pulled her bottom lip between her front teeth and bit down there nervously. She might have copied that from her if she still did that in the future. Felicity doubted that she would have given that up. She loved the way that Oliver lifted his hand and brushed his thumb against her bottom lip to release it from the maltreatment of her teeth way too much.
Continuing to look at her daughter intently, she tried to figure out if training day meant what Felicity believed it meant. Before she could pressure Addie into telling her the truth though, a knock at the door made her focus shift.
“Come in.”
She sounded reluctant as she was because she really wanted to know the answer to this question. As little as she wanted to interrupt the conversation, seeing Curtis standing outside the office and jumping from one foot to the other nervously, she felt like it was better to talk to him for a couple of minutes before something exploded down in the laboratories.
“Felicity,” he hurried to say, kind of sounding breathless already, “you will not believe what-“
Curtis stopped. He had stepped into the room. His eyes had found Addie and looked her up and down quickly. As soon as his eyes had turned to Felicity again, he had frowned and stopped though as if a late realization had hit him.
Felicity watched Curtis looking back and forth between Felicity and Addie. If his thoughts were visualized, Felicity was sure to know what she’d see. He was comparing the two women, seeing the differences but also the similarities and tried to find out if there was any connection between the two of them.
Although Curtis was in on the whole Arrow-thing, Felicity didn’t feel comfortable telling him about Addie. Not even Oliver knew that their daughter, who was a toddler to them now but had grown into a young woman in her own timeline already, was here. She couldn’t possibly tell anyone else before she had told him.
Quickly clearing her throat, Felicity redirected Curtis’ attention towards her. She smiled politely and asked, “Is anything about to explode?”
The fact that Curtis considered his answer, unsettled Felicity for a moment. Before she could start any emergency evacuation plan, Curtis shook his head and chuckled relieved though.
“No, I don’t think it will.”
Although the answer wasn’t as sure as Felicity had hoped it would be, she decided that it had to be enough for now.
“In that case, I think it can wait until tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
“I was about to go home and take the rest of the day off.” Felicity continued smiling politely without giving anything away. “Family matters.”
Curtis looked at her for a long moment like he was waiting for some more information on that. When it became obvious that Felicity wouldn’t tell anything more, he eyed up Addie once more. He hurried to flash Felicity a smile, turned on his heels and left the office.
The door had just shut between him when Felicity looked at Addie.
“We should continue this conversation somewhere private.”
Addie perked up her eyebrows slowly, but she nodded her head. “Alright.”
“But before we leave,” Felicity said more to herself than to Addie, “I will text your father.”
She grabbed her phone and texted her message quickly.
FQ: Text me back ASAP.
With her thumb already hovering over the button to send the text, Felicity hesitated. She wanted Oliver to text back as soon as possible, but she knew that a text like this would cause him to have a heart attack, so added No emergency before she sent the text.

“Won’t it be weird for the others if I just show up at home?”
Addie shot Felicity a brief glance before she turned back towards the windows. Since the car had rolled out of the underground parking at Queen Incorporated, she had taken everything in like it was the first time that she saw this city. Felicity wondered if a lot was going to change here in the next fifteen years.
“Nobody will be there. William is at college. Emmy and Tommy are at school. Mia is with Laurel and Tommy for the day because Millie and Add-, well, toddler-you are at the indoor playground hall. Raisa’s been visiting family for a while, so she wanted to do something fun with Millie and-“
“Mini-me?” Addie helped out.
Felicity smiled at that. “Mini-you.”
With everyone out of the house, she and Addie could talk without having to explain anything to anyone. Even with just her siblings – or mini-Addie – around, they would run into trouble explaining the situation. The kids were kids after all. If Felicity couldn’t really understand what was happening here, how could they?
When Felicity directed the car into the driveway that led towards their home, she looked at Addie. “Home sweet home.”
Although Addie had her face turned towards the window, Felicity tried to see her facial expression. If the city had changed so much in the past fifteen years, how much had their home changed?
Addie’s face showed barely any reaction to the sight of the house. The left corner of her lips twitched briefly before she regained control over her facial expression. She simple sucked in a deep breath and clenched her jaw a little, almost like Oliver often did when he was tense.
Felicity wondered what she could make of that reaction, but she decided to just let it slide by uncommented. Addie had stated clearly that she wasn’t allowed to say anything. As much as Felicity did want to know about the future, so she could get at least some little hints about the future, she didn’t want to urge Addie into something she felt uncomfortable with. It had taken her the entire drive through the city until she had come up with that decision, but she was firm on it now.
Getting out of the car, Felicity said, “I suggest we enjoy some coffee and chat.”
“Sounds nice,” Addie agreed with a smile, “though it’s tea for me.”
Felicity, who had already turned towards the path leading to the front door, turned around to Addie. She looked at her with perked up eyebrows and what she guessed was a bewildered expression in her eyes.
“Tea?” she asked.
Addie shrugged her shoulders, biting back a grin. “I’m not really a coffee enthusiast.”
For the first time since this young woman had stepped into her office, Felicity wondered if she really was her daughter.
“And yes,” Addie said, now letting that grin spread on her face, “I am absolutely sure that I am your daughter.”
Felicity grinned. Apparently, her older self was still having trouble to accept that her daughter disliked coffee. It was a confusing thought even if she had fifteen years to prepare for it now, she thought to herself.
She had just opened the door when a familiar tapping sound made a smile spread on her lips. Turning her head back over her shoulder to look at Addie, she told her, “I guess we don’t have the house all for ourselves after all.”
Addie frowned, but it didn’t last for long. Hawk came padding out of the living room. He wiggled his tail, looking at Felicity. Seeing Addie, he stilled for a moment and made himself as tall as possible. His ears turned forward and he sniffled the air. There seemed to be a short moment of confusion, but soon enough his entire body shook as his tail was wiggling excitedly.
“Hawkie!”
Letting herself fall onto her knees, Addie spread her arms for the giant Bernese Mountain Dog. Hawk came running towards her and threw his entire body against Addie’s chest. She didn’t seem to mind. She started hugging and petting the excited dog immediately, burying her face in his fluffy fur and looking just as excited as Hawk was.
“Oh, my big boy!” She grabbed his head with both of her hands and kissed his face over and over again. “It’s been so long.”
The words made Felicity’s heart twitch a little. Fifteen years was a long time, especially when it came to a dog’s life. Still, the thought that Hawk might not be there with them anymore in fifteen years pained her.
“I’ll go and take care of the coffee and tea.”
Felicity’s voice was quiet as she said that and retreated to the kitchen, trying to get a hold of her emotions. Now wasn’t the time to mourn Hawk. He was still very much alive and he would be for years like it was supposed to be.
Maybe a look into the future wasn’t always as intriguing as it first seemed.
Preparing their beverages, Felicity made sure to shake the weird feeling that thinking about Hawk’s death had left with her. She served the hot beverages along with a small plate of homemade cookies in the living room where Addie had already sprawled out on the couch, Hawk resting across her legs and letting her pet him.
Since Addie couldn’t really move with Hawk’s 140 lbs. on her, Felicity handed her the mug of tea and held out the small plate of cookies. While Hawk lifted his head and turned it towards the cookies immediately, sniffling the scent of the sweet bakery, Addie hesitated and then shook her head. Although she had only looked at Felicity briefly, she had sensed that something was going on.
Placing the plate back onto the couch table and grabbing a cookie for herself, Felicity watched Addie closely. She was avoiding her gaze, so Felicity frowned and took in her adult daughter’s appearance closely. She had ben so distracted by the fact that an adult Addie was here that she had been mainly focused on her face to see what parts of mini-Addie were still recognizable in adult-Addie and what parts of her resembled her parents’ faces.
Felicity didn’t know if she just hadn’t looked at Addie closely enough before or if the way she was sitting on the couch now just allowed Felicity to get a better picture of her. She noticed now that the bones of her shoulders were visible through the light sweater she wore. Her collarbones rose from under her skin too. Even her wrists looked like the skin was tightened right over the bones. Everything on her looked a little too long for its width.
When Addie lifted her gaze carefully, trying to see what Felicity was doing, she caught her gaze and immediately looked away. She looked embarrassed which Felicity wanted to make sure she knew she had no reason to.
“Are you okay?” she asked her calmly.
Addie looked at her, still hesitating. Felicity cocked her head at her, answering her daughter’s gaze with a warm smile.
“You can tell me,” she assured her, “because I am your mother after all.”
Although Addie tried to smile, it didn’t quite reach her eyes. She lowered her gaze once more, petting Hawk with one hand and lifting the mug of tea to her lips. She sipped at it slowly as if to buy herself some time before she answered. Felicity let her. She didn’t want to urge her into telling her something that she felt she couldn’t talk about to her.
“I do have trouble eating.”
Addie spoke slowly, and she lifted her gaze briefly. It seemed like she wanted to test Felicity’s reaction before she continued, so Felicity just nodded her head quietly. Again, she let Addie the time that she needed to tell her story in her own time.
“It’s getting better,” Addie continued eventually, speaking a little quicker now, “so I’m getting better, but- but-“
Clearing her throat, she stopped once more to take in another deep breath. Her hands were shaking slightly, and they didn’t stop even with the calming breaths she tried to take.
“I have a lot of trouble in school too. Being the only stupid person in a family of little geniuses, that stress manifested in different ways.”
Addie didn’t look at her this time like she was scared of seeing Felicity’s reaction about it. It actually made Felicity wonder if she was going to do some hurtful things regarding Addie and her problems in the future. The thought made her stomach twist.
“I am sure you are not stupid,” Felicity told her softly, “because there are a million different ways to be smart. Yours might be different than that of the rest of the family.”
“I dropped out of school to pursue my career in the show business.”
Addie might come after Donna, Felicity thought for a brief second, even though Donna had never worked in the show business. As a child, Felicity had simply believed that her mother had to be a celebrity with the glittering and sparkling dresses she had always worn to work. Felicity pushed that thought away quickly though. Addie was sharing a lot more about the future than she had originally wanted to. Felicity guessed it meant that
“So?” Felicity asked, shrugging her shoulders. “Your dad dropped out of four colleges.”
“Colleges, yes.” Addie looked at her intently. “Not schools. You cannot tell me that you – a woman with a high IQ and initiator of several projects to support children’s education – thinks that it’s okay if her child drops out of school without graduation.”
Addie sucked in a deep breath and looked away, tears welling in her eyes. Felicity frowned and watched her adult daughter for a long moment. She had no idea what she had been going through in the last fifteen years or what her life was now. She also doubted that she could give any good advice to her since she didn’t know her at all, not like she was now.
For some reason, Felicity wondered if maybe Addie’s trip to the past hadn’t been as unplanned as she had made it out to be. Maybe she had come here to talk to someone she trusted without actually talking to someone in her life. Or maybe Felicity was completely wrong and Addie had come here by accident and those feelings were just bursting out of her right now.
Either way, Felicity knew that Addie needed her support now. She might be fifteen years to old, but she was her daughter, so Felicity would definitely give her exactly that support.
Placing her mug of coffee on the couch table, Felicity went around the table and sat down next to Addie. She grabbed her daughter’s hand that was tangled in Hawk’s fur and squeezed it comfortingly.
“Of course I would like to know that my children have received a good education because it usually offers the most chances for the future,” Felicity said softly and squeezed Addie’s hand once more, “but if it stresses you out so much that you have to hurt yourself to cope with the stress, then it’s not worth it. Your happiness and your health are more important. You have different aims and that is fine with me if you have thought this through and know why you are doing this.”
Admittedly, Felicity surprised herself by saying these things. If anyone had asked her about it this morning, she certainly would have said that she would never allow her children to drop out of school. Seeing how much Addie suffered physically and emotionally, there was no way that she would force her to go to school though.
No matter what her children would do or wouldn’t do in the future, she would love them and support them in just the way they needed it. What mattered was that they made their own decisions to be happy and healthy. What she might have envisioned for their future wasn’t as important.
“I don’t know whether I am still the same kind of mother that I am now,” Felicity continued in a whisper, “but I cannot imagine a world or a timeline where I don’t put your needs before anything else.”
That was when Addie finally lifted her gaze and locked her eyes with Felicity. There was still insecurity there. She wasn’t sure if she could trust what Felicity told her, so Felicity held her daughter’s gaze until all doubts seemed to be washed away.
Swallowing hard and taking in a sniffling breath. She nodded her head and wiped away the tears that had fallen. A low chuckled escaped her lips.
“I guess in a field full of roses, I am a wildflower.”
Felicity smiled, perking up her eyebrows. “That quote is actually hanging in your nursery.”
“And right over my bed in my current apartment.”
“You have an apartment?” Felicity asked with surprise. “Already?”
Addie opened her lips to answer, but she stopped sighed. “I think I have told you too much already.”
Felicity nodded her head and squeezed Addie’s hand. What Addie had shared with her was definitely enough to prepare her for the future. She knew that she had to grid herself against the doubts that would torture Addie, so she could protect her the best way possible.
“I forgot about it sometimes, you know,” Addie whispered, “that I am a wildflower. So I actually got it tattooed.”
She lifted the sleeve of her shirt and showed Felicity the quote that was inked across her forearm. Felicity stroked her thumb over the words and smiled softly. She remembered telling Oliver that he was provoking their unborn baby to be a little rebel when they had already had had their hands full with Emmy and Tommy – not so much with Millie who had always used to be the quiet one. She would have to thank him for that now if that little quote had put things for Addie into a different and better perspective.
“You know why I appreciate wildflowers so much?” Felicity heard herself ask all of a sudden, still looking at the tattoo. She didn’t wait for an answer. “They grow no matter the conditions and they are true naturals. I think that is what makes them so beautiful.”
Mother and daughter locked their gazes. Their fingers were still tangled together, holding onto each other. Both of them were emotional because of this meeting and this conversation. How often did you happen to meet your daughter’s future or your mother’s past after all?
Felicity wondered if they had moments like these in the future too. She couldn’t imagine it any different way, but maybe they hadn’t and that was why Addie had felt the need to talk to this version of her mother instead of the one that was in her present.
What would have to happen for her daughter to feel like she couldn’t talk to her mother, Felicity wondered. She couldn’t imagine anything and knowing what she knew now, she’d do everything to prevent it from happening, so Addie wouldn’t have to come here and talk to this version of her mother about her problems.
Well, if she did so, Addie wouldn’t feel the need to talk to her about it now and Felicity wouldn’t know what problems were waiting for her daughter in the future. It was one of the many reasons why time traveling didn’t make any sense and-
“Mom?”
“Hm?”
“You are rambling internally.”
Felicity had to blink several times before she felt like she was back in the present. She had indeed got lost in her thoughts for a moment or she had at least threatened to get lost there. It certainly happened to her in the future too if Addie could detect it so easily.
“Sorry,” she said, “I-“
The doorbell rang, effectively interrupting the moment. Hawk lifted his head off his paws and pricked up his ears. When another ringing of the doorbell resounded through the house, he got up on his paws, jumped over the back of the couch and ran towards the foyer. His excited but quite non-threatening barking told Felicity what she needed to know.
“It’s certainly Bruce.”
“Uncle Bruce?” Addie perked up her eyebrows and smiled excitedly, but soon frowned and gestured towards the stairs. “Maybe I should go upstairs, so he doesn’t see me. I mean time travelers shouldn’t be seen by too many people, right?”
Felicity waved it off. “I am sure that I can convince him of meeting with me later. Even if he does come in here, I am not sure he will recognize you.”
With that, Felicity got up and hurried towards the door. Hawk had already taken seat beside it, ready to welcome their guest with all of excitement.
“Everything alright with you?”
Perking up her eyebrows, Felicity cocked her head. “What a strange way to say hello.”
“I was worried.” Without waiting for an explicit invitation, he went past Felicity into the house. Hawk started jumping up at him immediately. Hawk petted him, but his gaze stayed fixed on Felicity. “Is everything alright?”
Felicity saw that he was truly worried. He had certainly come to Queen Incorporated for their appointment and been told that she had left when an unfamiliar woman had arrived and Felicity had left in the middle of the workday. In the kind of world she and Bruce were living in, that rarely ever meant everything good.
“Yes, everything’s fine,” Felicity said softly and smiled at him, “it’s just a little crazy today.”
Bruce looked at her intently, trying to find any doubt in her face. He seemed unable to really focus on her as Hawk was still jumping at him, trying to lick his face and nibble at his jaw and ear. He pushed Hawk to the floor gently but determinedly. Hawk got the message and hurried right back into the living room.
Looking at her once more, Bruce narrowed his eyes slightly. He soon seemed to have made up his mind and decided that she really was okay though. He nodded slightly.
“Alright,” he whispered, “so you just took the day off to-“
“Hawk!”
Addie’s laughing came from the living room, making Bruce turn his head towards the living room and frown.
“Is that the young woman you left Queen Incorporated with?”
Felicity nodded, biting back a smile. “She is.”
“And she’s here?”
“Apparently.”
Bruce turned his eyes away from the open living room door towards Felicity. He looked at her suspiciously like he thought she was hatching some plan. His eyes narrowed at her once more, but Felicity just held his gaze.
The staring contest was ended before it could really start though. Addie came strolling out of the living room, her mug of tea held between both of her hands. Hawk was at her feet, waggling his tail and looking at her excitedly.
“I thought I’d go upstairs and… wait to be picked up,” she said after a moment of hesitation, her gaze drifting back and forth between Felicity and Bruce, “so you two can talk without any disturbances.”
Felicity had to hide an amused smile at the entire situation and the secret she was sharing only with Addie, well, and maybe with Hawk. Her eyes followed Addie when she went upstairs, Hawk always by her side.
It was crazy that Addie was here, but Felicity knew that she should see it as an opportunity offered to her by fate or maybe even a coincidence. Either way, Felicity should make the best of that opportunity. To do so, she needed to get rid of Bruce first though.
Turning to look at him, Felicity found Bruce’s eyes glued to Addie’s back. He looked at her with a frown, his eyes narrowed down on her slightly. Felicity’s nosiness won over her need to send him away, so she could spend more time with Addie. What would he say? Would be recognize the similarities between Addie and Felicity, and come to the right conclusions?
“Did you barter Raisa for this… young woman and not mention it?”
“Of course not.” Felicity rolled her eyes. “Like we would ever barter her for anyone.”
Raisa was more than just the woman that helped with the household and took care of the kids. She was part of the family. She was the one person still alive that had known Oliver when he had been a child. She could tell all the stories about him that Donna told about Felicity. Even if she decided to stop working for them which was the only acceptable reason to end their work relationship, she’d still be a part of their family. Nothing would ever change that.
Felicity watched Bruce’s face closely. He had turned back to watch Addie walk upstairs. Only her feet were visible now, and even those disappeared upstairs soon.
“She reminds me of someone.”
“Really?” Felicity bit down on her tongue to stop a wide grin to spread on her lips. “Of whom?”
Bruce’s frown deepened. His eyes were still looking at where Addie’s feet had disappeared just some seconds ago. He didn’t seem to be sure about his answer. Felicity just couldn’t say if he wasn’t sure about his thoughts or if he felt like he shouldn’t voice them.
When he turned his head and looked at her, Felicity knew that he had made his guess already.
“Yes,” she said with a soft smile, “she is.”
Bruce perked up his eyebrows. “So is she…?”
Felicity cocked her head, interested to hear what exactly Bruce had made up in his mind about the young woman that Felicity had now admitted was her daughter. There were a lot of different scenarios that could fit, so Felicity was intrigued to find out which seemed to be the most plausible in Bruce’s eyes.
He seemed to be unwilling to make a suggestion though. He just looked back at her, waiting for her to take the first step and say something.
“She’s from the future.”
Although the thought had certainly crossed his mind, Bruce looked surprised. “So which one is she? Emmy or Addie – no, don’t say it.”
He had certainly decided that it couldn’t be Millie since her hair was dark. Taking another look to the upper floor, he furrowed his brows. It almost looked like he only had one while he was trying to find out which of the Queen children that young woman resembled most.
“Addie,” he said after a moment, “right? She’s Addie?”
Felicity smiled, nodding her head. “At least in fifteen years she is.”
Bruce turned his head, once more looking towards the upper floor. A smile creeped on his face, and he shook his head slightly.
“I should have known from the start. She does have your and Oliver’s impeccable genetics, does she not? – Don’t answer that.”
Felicity bit down on her tongue hard to stop herself from laughing. Bruce must have realized that he hadn’t only complimented Felicity but also Oliver before she could have processed his words.
“Why don’t you come in,” Felicity said, “and we talk to Addie together for a while.”
Although there was a part of Felicity that wanted to share this moment with Oliver, she knew how much the Addie she had kissed goodbye this morning loved her uncle Bruce. If Addie was still like that in fifteen years, she might enjoy a little chat with him. Besides, at least Felicity would have someone to share this crazy meeting with later, so nobody could tell her that she was crazy. Addie really had been here.
Bruce hesitated for a moment, but he soon nodded his head. “I probably wouldn’t believe my own memory if I didn’t get to talk about it.”
Felicity chuckled. “I was actually thinking about the same thing.”
 → → → → →
It was weird to watch them, Bruce thought to himself and looked back and forth between Felicity and Addie while they were chatting about innocuous, so Addie wouldn’t slip anything about the future. That the young woman that was sitting in front of him now was the same little girl that always kissed him goodbye on the cheek when he was here and had taken to him probably more than all of the other Queen Kids together, just couldn’t get in his head.
When Bruce thought about his future, he couldn’t see it any different from what it was like now. He considered himself still busy with Wayne Enterprise and Batman-business. He’d still put all of his energy into that to fill the void he felt when he came home and had to spend his time all alone.
He guessed that was why he couldn’t see anyone else changing in the future.
“Did dad still not text back or call?” Addie asked.
Felicity grabbed her phone and checked the display. With a shrug of her shoulders, she shook her head and sighed. “I guess he is busy with his meetings. I’m sorry you won’t get to meet him or-“
Bruce, who had tried to tune back into the conversation, felt suddenly distracted by some low noise from the back of the house. He wasn’t the only one who seemed to have heard it though. Addie and Felicity were still chatting, but Hawk, who had been dozing at the foot of the couch, suddenly pricked up his ears and looked towards the door.
“What’s wrong?” Felicity asked, interrupting Addie and looking at Bruce with a frown. “What are you-?”
“Someone’s here.”
Bruce got up und positioned himself between the couch and the door, blocking Felicity and Addie by doing so. Hawk didn’t hesitate to take position next to him. He growled quietly, his posture stiff.
With held breath, Bruce heard the steps coming closer. Whoever had come didn’t sound like he or she wanted to hide his or her presence. Since the step didn’t seem to come from a woman and they weren’t accompanied by the steps of children either, it couldn’t be Raisa, who had returned from the trip with Millie and this moment’s Addie.
“Could it be Tommy?” Bruce asked with lowered voice without looking away from the door. “Or Roy or-?”
“I don’t think so.”
Felicity and Addie had gotten up and backed away from the door a little bit more. From the corner of his eyes, Bruce could see that Felicity had put a protective arm around Addie’s shoulders. Addie didn’t seem to need it. The expression in her eyes told Bruce that she was ready to jump forward and protect her mother if they were attacked. He still preferred to know that both of them were safe in the back.
The steps came closer and closer. Bruce could almost count the seconds until that person would come into the room. He was ready to use the moment of surprise and attack first. But all tension left his body the moment that person came into his visual field.
Hawk was the first to react. He jumped up at the man entering the room, barking and making sounds that Bruce couldn’t even describe.
“Dad!”
Addie’s voice sounded relieved. She quickly left Felicity’s side and hurried past Bruce to fling her arms around Oliver’s neck and hug him tightly. Oliver released a sigh of relief and hugged his daughter back for a long moment, while Hawk was jumping up at the two of them like he wanted to join into the hug.
The lack of surprise in Addie’s voice alone would have been enough to prove that he couldn’t be the Oliver Queen that belonged into 2027. Still, Bruce took a closer look and didn’t miss that this Oliver had more and slightly deeper wrinkles. His hair was quite a bit greyer too. He was still in form, but maybe not as much as he was now.
When Oliver, who had closed his eyes to fully enjoy the embrace of his daughter that had gotten lost in time for a couple of hours, opened his eyes, he looked Bruce up and down quickly. Soon his gaze drifted to Felicity though, and Bruce couldn’t help but feel a stitch of jealousy about the way he looked at her.
Of course that jealousy didn’t stem from the need to be looked at like that by Oliver too. That was ridiculous! It didn’t even really stem from the fact that Oliver looked at Felicity like that. No, Bruce had to admit that it was the fact that Oliver could look at anyone in a way like this. In his timeline, that Oliver must have been with Felicity for almost thirty years, and he still looked at her like she was the only person he ever really needed.
To feel a love like that and have that love be returned – because Bruce knew it was – was something that Bruce did feel jealous of.
“Felicity.”
Oliver’s voice sounded a little bit hoarser than it usually did. He tightened his arms around Addie for a moment before he let go of her. Addie pulled her bottom lip between her front teeth which made her look so much like a younger version of Felicity that Bruce had to blink twice to remind himself that she was not. She looked back and forth between her father and the younger version of her mother with a mixture of amusement and something else that Bruce couldn’t name. Her hands petted Hawk’s head as he had sat down on her feet and was watching the scene in front of him quietly now.
Slowly Oliver walked towards Felicity, who just stood still and looked him up and down thoroughly. Bruce wondered how relieved she had to be now, knowing that Oliver would make it through the next fifteen years if nothing changed the timeline. With a vigilante-ing husband, you could never know how long it took until a single bad decision caused you to lose your spouse.
There was something intimate about watching the two of them together. Oliver lifted his hands and cupped both of Felicity’s cheeks. He was holding her so gently and although he technically wasn’t the man she was currently married to because fifteen years of choices had certainly left their marks on him, Felicity put her hands over his and snuggled her face into his touch.
The two of them looked each other in the eyes. No word was spoken and still they seemed to be a in a vivid conversation.
Oliver angled his head down a little bit, bringing his lips closer to Felicity’s. There was a moment of pause, their lips just staying close to each other’s without touching. Eventually, Felicity straightened up onto her toes and closed the distance.
Bruce looked away quickly, watching Addie instead. She had crossed her arms in front of her chest and was watching the scene with judgmental eyes.
“I’m gonna tell this to mom.”
“Do as you please,” Oliver replied lightly, giving Bruce the cue that he could look again as the kiss had ended already, “because I am sure she won’t mind which version of her I kiss as long as it’s her.”
Addie puckered her lips, but there was amusement tugging at the corners of them. Bruce wondered if the two had actually just wanted to leave some cues about he future. From just the kiss and their brief conversation, Bruce knew that Felicity was alive in the future, and she seemed to be still married to Oliver.
He couldn’t say that he was surprised. If anyone asked him, he’d say that the two of them would stay together until death do them part.
“As much as I would like to stay here for a moment longer,” Oliver said, his eyes taking in Felicity’s face thoroughly, “I think we will have to leave. You are going to be really angry when you find out that Addie got lost in time and I traveled after her to get her back without telling you.”
Felicity perked up her eyebrows. “You didn’t tell me?”
“Nope.” Oliver sighed. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”
“Are you telling me this, so I won’t get mad when you’re home because you basically told me already? Just fifteen years before doing so?”
Oliver grinned. “Maybe.”
He kissed Felicity’s forehead before he let his hands sink and stepped towards Addie. She nodded her head, shot Felicity a smile and kissed Hawk’s head a couple of times. She whispered something in his ear and then turned around without saying anything more to Felicity. There was nothing more to say, especially no goodbye, because her mother would wait for her at home and Mini-Addie would soon arrive back here with this Felicity. There was no goodbye.
Oliver winked at Felicity and turned to follow Addie. He hadn’t made it out of the door yet when he stopped and turned around though. Frowning and with his lips pursed, he turned to look at Bruce and cocked his head.
“It’s an inspiring night,” he said, “enjoy it.”
Three seconds passed without anything happening. Oliver and Bruce just continued looking at each other. Bruce had no idea what Oliver could possibly mean by that and he didn’t get to ask. Oliver turned around and followed his daughter without any word of explanation.
Bruce stood there and frowned, wondering what to make of those words. He couldn’t say so. He hadn’t found out anything about his future other than the fact that even in fifteen years he wasn’t with Felicity which, by all means, wasn’t the slightest bit surprising to him.
So what else could Oliver have meant?
“Do you want to stay for dinner?”
Shooting Felicity a quick glance, he noticed that she was frowning at the door where Oliver and Addie had just left. She soon shook her head like she wanted to shake of those thoughts though and looked at him with a smile. It didn’t hide the confusion still in her eyes though.
“No,” Bruce said slowly, “I think I should go.”
“Are you sure?” Felicity asked. “We could have dinner and discuss our project. I know it’s why you actually came here before the future interrupted us and-“
“We will just videocall, okay?”
Bruce felt the sudden need to leave as soon as possible. He felt like he couldn’t breathe right and like it was incredibly hot in here which he guessed it wasn’t.
“I will videocall you tomorrow,” he specified and shot Felicity a brief smile. “See you.”
He turned on his heels and left before Felicity could say anything more. He’d text her later that he was sorry for the way he had left, but he really just needed to go now.
He got into his car, rolled out of the driveway and towards the highway. His head felt so full all of a sudden that he certainly broke all speed limits in an attempt to get away as soon as possible. The truth was that he really didn’t know what he was trying to get away from though.
What had Oliver meant what he had said that it was an inspiring night?
Was he supposed to be inspired by knowing that Oliver and Felicity were still together in fifteen years? Why would that inspire him? It wasn’t news to him. He had never thought anything else.
Or would he in the next fifteen days do something that proved that he was wrong? That deep in his head, he hadn’t accepted the fact that Oliver and Felicity would share the rest of their long lives together? Would he do something to intervene?
The thought unsettled Bruce more than anything had managed to probably since his parents’ death. Felicity’s wellbeing was important to him, and he knew that she was the happiest when she was surrounded by Oliver and her kids. He would never do anything to intervene. He was happy with the place he had in her life – as her business partner, her friend and godfather of her youngest child.
Or was he just telling himself that until-
Bruce hit the breaks so suddenly that the car behind him honked angrily. He didn’t give a damn though. He parked the car at the side of the street, got up and started walking down the busy street with large and firm steps. He needed some clear air and some movement to sort his thoughts.
As the streets were too busy for him, he soon turned into some smaller alleys. Less people were there, and the scarcer light helped to calm him down a little too.
If he had tried anything, Bruce thought to himself, Oliver wouldn’t have just ignored him. He certainly would have beat the crap out of him even though he hadn’t really done anything yet. Oliver would never allow anyone to come closer to his wife, especially when she didn’t want it, and there was no way she’d ever want anyone but Oliver.
So there had to be some other explanation, right?
Maybe he just be inspired by his thoughts of jealousy. Maybe it was time for him to open his heart and his head to the idea that he could have something like that even with someone who wasn’t Felicity. She was so similar to him and she knew this kind of lifestyle that picturing a relationship with her had always been so easy.
Maybe someone else could be the right person for him though.
Maybe-
He bumped into a shoulder and lifted his hands apologetically. “Sorry.”
The young woman just muttered some words and continued her way without even looking up at him. Bruce was about to keep walking too, but a thought kept both of his feet to the ground.
What if this was what Oliver had talked about? Maybe he knew that Bruce would find his happiness tonight because he bumped into a stranger who happened to be the perfect person for him?
Everything was better than believing that he could hurt Felicity’s happiness.
“Excuse me?” Bruce said loudly. “Miss?”
He took a step in the same directing the young woman had left, but his body felt weirdly out of balance without his right foot on the ground. He hurried in an attempt to set it back, but the he didn’t seem to find the floor, telling him that something was wrong here.
The alarming thought came too late though as Bruce suddenly felt his consciousness fading and his legs giving in. He had passed out before his body hit the hard ground.

Tips for Preventing Flat Head Syndrome in Babies Who Sleep on Their Backs
Flat Head Syndrome, medically known as positional plagiocephaly, is a condition that affects many infants who spend a significant amount of time lying on their backs, particularly during sleep. While placing infants on their backs to sleep has significantly reduced the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), it has also led to an increase in cases of Flat Head Syndrome. However, there are various strategies parents can employ to prevent or minimize this condition while still adhering to safe sleep practices.
Understanding Flat Head Syndrome:
Flat Head Syndrome occurs when a baby’s head develops a flat spot due to constant pressure on one area. This typically happens when babies spend prolonged periods lying on their backs, either in cribs or car seats. While the condition is not usually serious and often resolves on its own, it can lead to aesthetic concerns and, in some cases, developmental delays if left untreated.
Strategies for Avoiding Flat Head Syndrome:
Frequent Repositioning: One of the most effective ways to prevent Flat Head Syndrome is by regularly changing your baby's sleeping position. Encourage supervised tummy time when your baby is awake and ensure they spend time on their sides when not sleeping. This helps distribute the pressure on their skull evenly.
Utilize Different Sleep Surfaces: While it's important for infants to sleep on firm surfaces, alternating between different sleeping surfaces can reduce the risk of developing a flat spot. Consider using a flat crib mattress, a bassinet, or a playpen for daytime naps to vary the pressure points on your baby's head.
Supportive Pillows and Mattresses: Invest in specialized pillows or mattresses designed to distribute pressure evenly and support your baby's head and neck. These products are specifically engineered to reduce the risk of Flat Head Syndrome while promoting safe sleep practices.
Encourage Neck Muscle Development: Strong neck muscles can help your baby reposition their head during sleep, reducing the likelihood of developing a flat spot. Engage in activities that promote neck muscle strength, such as supervised tummy time, gentle neck stretches, and interactive play.
Limit Time in Devices: Minimize the amount of time your baby spends in devices that restrict movement, such as car seats, swings, and carriers. While these devices are convenient for transportation and soothing, prolonged use can contribute to Flat Head Syndrome. Whenever possible, hold your baby in your arms or use baby carriers that promote natural head positioning.
Use Rolled Towels or Blankets: Placing a rolled towel or blanket under your baby's shoulders during sleep can help prevent them from lying flat on their back all night. This slight elevation can encourage natural head movement and reduce pressure on one area of the skull.
Consult with Healthcare Professionals: If you notice persistent flattening or asymmetry in your baby's head shape, consult with your pediatrician or a pediatric specialist. They can provide personalized advice and recommend interventions such as physical therapy or specialized helmets if necessary.
Conclusion:
Flat Head Syndrome is a common condition among infants who sleep on their backs, but with proactive measures, it can be prevented or minimized. By incorporating strategies such as frequent repositioning, utilizing supportive pillows and mattresses, encouraging neck muscle development, and limiting time in restrictive devices, parents can help promote healthy head shape development in their babies. Remember to consult with healthcare professionals if you have concerns about your baby's head shape or development. With proper care and attention, Flat Head Syndrome can be effectively managed while adhering to safe sleep practices.

Pediatric asthma is a prevalent condition affecting children worldwide. As a parent, recognizing and managing asthma symptoms in your child is crucial for their well-being. Here, we'll delve into understanding pediatric asthma, its symptoms, triggers, and effective management strategies.
Understanding Pediatric Asthma
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, leading to symptoms like wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. While asthma can develop at any age, it often begins in childhood. Children with a family history of asthma or allergies are at a higher risk of developing the condition.
Recognizing Symptoms
Recognizing asthma symptoms in children can be challenging as they may vary in intensity and frequency. Common signs include:
Wheezing: A whistling sound while breathing. Coughing: Especially at night or during physical activity. Shortness of Breath: Difficulty breathing, especially during play or exercise. Chest Tightness: Discomfort or pressure in the chest. It's essential to monitor your child for these symptoms, especially if they occur frequently or interfere with daily activities.
Identifying Triggers
Various factors can trigger asthma symptoms in children. Common triggers include:
Allergens: Such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, or mold. Respiratory Infections: Like colds or the flu. Environmental Factors: Such as smoke, air pollution, or changes in weather. Physical Activity: Especially in cold or dry air. Identifying and minimizing exposure to triggers can help manage asthma symptoms effectively.
Managing Pediatric Asthma
Managing pediatric asthma involves a combination of preventive measures and medication. Here are some tips:
Visit a Pediatrician: Regular check-ups with a pediatrician or child specialist are essential for monitoring your child's asthma and adjusting treatment as needed. Consider finding the best pediatrician in Borivali West, Mumbai, like Dr. Prashant Gandhi, for expert care.
Create an Asthma Action Plan: Work with your child's healthcare provider to develop a personalized asthma action plan. This plan outlines daily treatment, asthma triggers, and steps to take during asthma attacks.
Medication: Depending on the severity of your child's asthma, they may need daily controller medications to reduce inflammation and prevent symptoms. Quick-relief medications are also prescribed to alleviate sudden symptoms.
Avoid Triggers: Identify and minimize exposure to asthma triggers, such as allergens, smoke, or pollution. Keep indoor environments clean and free of dust and pet dander.
Promote Healthy Habits: Encourage regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and good sleep hygiene to support overall respiratory health.
