nothing summarizes everything quite like "I Don't Know How To Explain To You That You Should Care About Other People"... almost in tears from frustration that everything, everything! boils down to that. do you care about other people or do you only consider a subset of humans to be people.

People be mad that movies are getting ‘woke’ having more PoC background characters when really they should be mad that Disney is moving all their projects to Atlanta, Georgia, USA—where they don’t have an actors union and exploitation is rampant.

also someone on that post of McMansion getting renovated into a different McMansion was like "people who love old things don't realize that a lot of it was just cheap mass-produced stuff like the furniture and household goods they hate today!!!!"
and like. okay. there are articles on how cheap mass-produced stuff has gotten worse in just the last ten years. is it really that hard to believe that it was vastly better-made 100+ years ago?
also that should make MORE of an impact, I think, than simply assuming it's all the same as exquisite artist-crafted furniture in mansions. even the equivalent of Wish.com housewares in the 19th century were often 100X more durable than what we have today
(and no, that doesn't mean Western Society BetterTM or anything else the marble statue PFPs spout. forms of mass production happened in many societies, from cheap ceramics made in China and Japan for export to copies of ancient grave goods made in Egypt and the Mediterranean during archaeological revival crazes)
I have been living in Working or Middle-Class People's Apartments c. 1910-1920 for the past ten years. one of them was just rendered uninhabitable by fire, but a surprising number of the walls and doors were still standing. I firmly believe you could run a tank into those radiators and not damage them. things WERE often better-made in Ye Olden Times, and it doesn't make one ignorant or a Trad to say so

last night, during the street outreach, we had a woman come up to us, incredibly agitated that the undercover footage we were showing of slaughterhouses and dairy, egg, and fishing industries was visible to children.
two of the activists had brought their healthy, intelligent, wonderfully well-adjusted vegan children, who have both previously seen the footage with their parents and asked questions and received honest answers.
and i approached her to ask her—if she cared so much about the welfare of children, as she claimed, why was she not boycotting these industries?
if you are against child labor in any real way, you WOULD boycott industries that require labor in slaughterhouses, meat-packing facilities, fisheries, egg farms, dairy farms, fur and wool farms.
because guess who makes up a significant portion of that labor? CHILDREN. illegally and legally both, depending on the state or regional laws.
i’ve seen it with my own eyes at slaughterhouses, up close—i’ve seen children no older than 12 made to haul the dead bodies of pigs, still bleeding. i’ve seen them working in those farms.
there are innumerable minors “employed”—or enslaved—to animal agriculture and the resultant slaughterhouses and meat-packing and chick-grinding and animal skinning. PTSD doesn’t even begin to cover what these children come home with. to say nothing of how unsafe these jobs are—would anyone like to look into how many injuries and outright limb amputations are caused by slaughterhouse work each year? cuz it sure isn’t zero.
do you think Big Meat insures their workers and pays for medical bills and a pension when these incidents occur? how much do you think they care about safety code violations? the USDA and ASPCA approved slaughterhouses i’ve seen in person are in violation of at least 40 codes, minimum.
and let’s talk about the field farming of the immense amount of food required to sustain the animals imprisoned within these industries—lest we forget, most of the world’s food and calories go to feed these animals, not us.
and guess who they rely on most to farm that animal feed.
these industries will ALWAYS find a way to use children for their labor, because it’s cheap and it’s easy. they will NEVER stop using child labor. ever. it doesn’t matter how many laws are “in place”—these places will always get away with it bc they literally cannot exist without extensive and wildly cheap labor. you cannot invent an animal agriculture that won’t find a way to silently exploit minors for cheap labor.
these businesses are at the top of the capitalist heap—it’s a business that, once again, cannot exist without human slavery on a large scale, with much of that burden resting on children and immigrants (particularly women, btw).
if you actually care even a little bit about child labor, really, one of the most effective things you can do is to boycott animal product industries.

this is your reminder that 99.9% of employers care more about money than you and even if they are kind and fair now they WILL at the end of the day put profits over your well being so absolutely do not sacrifice your life for them.

Just poppin' in to say that i absolutely love your Monster!batkids au!!
the detail is great and the monster's allocated fit the characters really, really well!
random question: does Echo!Tim ever have issues when it comes to ordering food/coffee at restaurants?
Aww, thank you! I’m really glad you enjoy it!
Echo!Tim does all his shopping and ordering online or via apps, because it is a massive pain to actually order things in person. People cut in line, because they don’t realize he’s part of it. Cashiers look right past him when they call out, “Next!” Waiters walk past his table over & over, even if he managed to get formally seated, because they assume it’s empty. Tim needs to do something incredibly attention grabbing & disruptive for people to actually realize he’s there, and it’s just unpleasant for everyone involved. (An example of one such interaction would probably go something like, “Hi, I’m here to pick up… Hi? Um, hello? Excuse me? Excuse me. Excuse me. Hey! HEY! [*slams his fist down on the counter hard enough to make everything on it bounce, now has the attention of everyone in the room*] …I’m here to pick up my pizza.”)
Once Tim’s part of the family, things do get a bit easier because he can bring someone who cares about him with him to do things, but it’s just not his habit anymore, and Tim’s a bit too stubbornly independent to want to ask for help with what should be perfectly ordinary tasks. Why bother Dick, or Bruce, or Steph with Tim’s problems when he’s perfectly capable of handling them himself? (Tim asks, pulling out his phone to place another order on his newest delivery app, after the last one got taken over by Punchline or something.)

I'm calling it ahead of time, but the 10 year anniversary of Inquisition is going to be "Haha, remember when 10 years ago we intentionally didn't finish the story so you would buy DLC and the sequel? Anyway, Dreadwolf cancelled"

Happy dragon age day, I see bioware has released yet another "teaser" trailer with absolutely no indication of gameplay or what the actual plot will be🙄
like it's just getting hard to be/stay excited, I want to be but I can only take so many teaser trailers of random audio clips over matte paintings/concept art/stills at this point. I'd honestly rather they tell me nothing until they have something real to show us (like what's the combat like? is there crafting? show me the character creator? even if it's half done? anything?? like yeah the environments look good but it still looks like a lot of nothing, fam. honestly even some devs excitedly talking about literally any of the systems in the game would be great! people being excited/passionate makes other people excited). I'm sure the devs are frustrated too, it's a long time to be working on something and not release it (most games dev time is usually 3-5 years max for big studios), and they've obviously had lots of setbacks.
Tumblr media
ok it's been 9 years from the release of DAI, 10 next year (but still that's awhile). I think it'd be different if we knew that everyone involved was hydrated, well rested, well paid and thriving and just able to take their time to carefully craft something absolutely amazing (I will happily wait forever for this kind of art) but we all know that's not the case with bioware/ea so idk i can't muster the same excitement that i could have once T.T
