been thinking about how in a couple of different interviews, barry has brought up that he played five different olivers chronologically thru the movie. i've been fiddling with my theories as to where each oliver ends and a new one begins and have roughly landed here but would love to hear other ideas:
oliver 1: oxford, watching and wanting felix. an outsider, batting up against the window, just desperate to get in. begins observing everything: details of felix's life, details of farleigh's life, begins orchestrating his performance for felix, setting the stage for whatever will get him into the spotlight.
oliver 2: saltburn, pre-bathtub, the best few months of his life, living in felix's light. this is the dream. he will cling onto it and comb over it and jerk off to it and wonder how he could ever get it back.
oliver 3: saltburn, post-bathtub, post-pamela, understanding how precarious his position is, losing felix quickly, making risky, desperate moves in an attempt to regain his attention. eating holes in everything and becoming a toy that felix doesn't want to play with anymore.
oliver 4: saltburn, post-confession, post-licking-the-fucking-plate, confused by his own obsession and pivoting toward preserving and not letting anyone remove him from what he thinks is rightfully his: felix's space and felix's role and felix's memory
oliver 5: post-post-saltburn, monologuing to his final victim, justifying his actions in any way possible, an obsession that has festered for more than a decade, re-realized in his obsession with his self and his work. oliver in his most catton-like state. denying that the desire was ever there. has a complete and utter horror of the ugliness he's committed. a beautiful man in his beautiful house, surrounded by beautiful things. finally free from want.

ngl i could see joong turn to directing too some years down the future
#i forced the JD hidden agenda ep8 reaction insta live on my mother#and she pointed out that joong seemed to have a much more analytical way of watching the ep than dunk did#he didn't really do much analysis out loud but he was extremely attentive in the way he was looking at the screen#it was quite interesting tbh and i would LOVE to hear all the thoughts he was having#anyway having an analytical eye is a skill that's useful as a director#my brain is waaaay too analytical and i struggle to turn it off when i act which is why i'd def be a better director than actress#my fave acting teacher also said he could see me as a director from the feedback i was giving my colleagues in class and the things i saw#and now thinking about how joong had this analytical look on his face while watching ep8 of hidden agenda#and how he now directed and edited his own mv#yeah no i wouldn't be surprised if he ended up directing one or the other series or movie at some point in the future#i'm so excited to watch his development as an artist tbh 👀#airenyah plappert#joong archen#adrm

the amount of media i have consumed in one week of being sick . . . . i am horrifying myself thinking about it
#all of the squid game reality show plus interview with the vampire the show and both entire seasons of kevin can fuck himself#PLUS rewatched bridgerton s2 and FINALLY watched The Terror#can u tell i used my amc plus free trial#rewatched treasure planet last night and started the hobbit movies again for something to watch while i draw#AND i rewatched avatar way of water and also the shape of water#plus the entire audiobook of infinite country and granted it's not a long audiobook but still five hours#the terror was so good but mostly it was FASCINATING to see the show yall are so insane about on this site#i was so looking forward to wathing iwtv so i could use my trial to also watch the terror bc people are so crazy about it on here#and it's just like . . . . a period piece horror thing with a LOT of white men who all look the same! and it was a blast yeah#truly i love yalls minds i love yalls brains like i would never have thought if i cold watched this show that ppl would be so insane about#anyway god bless someone tell me what else to watch im desperate#started severance and just couldnt get off the ground w it#we never finished sucession bc we just wanted the old man to die and then he did so#idk maybe i'll just keep watching the hobbit movies

#ok so for the explanations#we can see i had a virginia woolf thing going on and i stand by it!#the hours rearranged my brain chemistry thank you!#and orlando was also so great i feel like it's the only woolf novel that can actually be translated onto the screen#and it was done very well!#after hours is probably my fave scorsese flick? i like him when he isn't doing gangsters#it was a blast through and through#a dragon arrives was a treat i saw at the genre film festival and it was so insane and genre-bending i just stood there in awe#if you can find it anywhere do give it a watch!#gothic is... actually i liked the insanity of it and the fact that i've been really into romanticism lately totally helped haha#it's better to make those people slightly insane than it is to make them boring#paddington 2 is just the best movie of all time ok next#point break was just a perfect action movie i had a blast watching it and i think it's been a while since i watched a movie that was like#i expected nothing from it but it turined out to be great fun#stranger by the lake is how you do a gay murder right!!! cruising 1980 take notes!!#no really it was so suspenseful and uncomfortable to watch in the best way#and last but not least we have ivan vasilyevich... i saw a few russian movies this year and this one i liked best#it was so goofy it went totally against what i expected from russian film in the best way#so i thought it would be cool to include it#so this is my list thank you for tagging me again so much!!!
