Whenever people criticize exploitative companies I notice that they tend to target consumers as if everybody using those services always have a choice in the matter, but im willing to bet that a massive chunk of the population that shops at walmart, orders from amazon, subscribe to disney+, etc, are poor/rural people who cant afford any of the alternatives. And what exactly do you expect them to do?
Disney+ is the cheapest option for reliable entertainment for poor parents with kids. Netflix is the cheapest option for that for most others. They still deserve to watch TV when they cant afford a cable package (and yes, pirating still has barriers attached to it. For one, you need to be able to afford the computer, just for starters). Not everyone who has a streaming service subscription is a bootlicker or supports the disney corporation or thinks netflix has the most correct working conditions.
Amazon is the cheapest option for shipping, well... almost anything. And in a lot of places, its the only thing that can reliably get there at all within the month. And when a prime subscription comes with free shipping and a streaming service? That cuts out one major expense AND the expense from the first point, too. Folks still deserve to be able to order things when they cant afford to pay for shipping fees or when they can only afford the cheapest possible option for the item they need. Not everybody with a prime subscription or who orders the occasional thing off amazon wants to personally suck jeff bezos's dick or thinks warehouse workers deserve to be worked to death.
Walmart remains the cheapest possible option for most people in north america, especially in the cost of living crisis right now where groceries cost more than your rent. Not everybody who shops at walmart thinks the workers deserve to be exploited or that unions are bad or that driving out small businesses is a good thing
And im gonna be honest, every single "alternative" ive seen from people acting these ways is WAYYY more expensive and unreliable to poor and rural people than the things theyre telling us to stop using. You absolutely should support small businesses when you can but i usually dont have small business money. I can either buy a few little things to eat that will last me maybe a week or i can get enough for the month for the same amount at walmart, and thats not MY fault.
What exactly do you want us to do here

Me: Amazon abuses its workers, destroys the environment, and is one of the most evil companies on the planet. Please don’t support their TV shows, including The Rings of Power. Boycott them fully, if you can.
Some people on the internet: You’re guilt tripping me! I am the real victim here! This is all about me and my feelings!
Listen, folks. My criticisms have always been of Amazon, not of other fans. If your main takeaway from my posts is that I’m trying to guilt trip you, you’re really not paying attention. This issue is far bigger than you and your desire to consume entertainment. Also, I literally never said you can’t watch the show; I’m just suggesting you don’t watch it on Amazon Prime. It’s not that complicated.
Some people are asking where this energy was for other Amazon shows like Good Omens, Vox Machina, The Boys, Paper Girls, Wheel of Time, etc. It’s a valid question, but it’s being used like some kind of gotcha. I don’t think people should support those shows either. I have never watched them or any other shows by Amazon.
But if you’re wondering why there’s such a backlash against this show and not the others, I think it’s pretty simple. Amazon has gone to far greater lengths to promote The Rings of Power than these other shows, which has made it more of a point of discussion across multiple fandoms. I literally haven’t heard of some of these other Amazon shows until recently.
Finally, I didn’t hear about any worker injuries on these other shows (maybe they happened but I didn’t hear about them). But I have heard about worker injuries on the sets of The Rings of Power. You may not like it, but people have valid reasons for criticizing this show.

PSA: Don't let Amazon scam you with delivery prices!
Over the past few years Amazon's shipping fees have become ridiculously opaque. Not only do you need to go to checkout before seeing how much an item's real shipping costs - Amazon is also hiding free shipping from you!
Here's what you do. On any item, scroll down to this part.
See at the top where it says "Dispatches from Amazon"? This means Amazon wants you to pick this product. It means they can leech more money from your purchase through its warehouse and delivery service.
But see underneath where it says "Other sellers on Amazon"? Go ahead and click that. It'll show you other sellers with the same item, although it won't show you their shipping costs (yet).
This one is dispatched from Malik and Gill Traders, not an Amazon warehouse.
Add these other sellers to your cart as well as the Amazon one.
Go to check out and discover the REAL delivery costs. First, let's take a look at the Amazon one.
Uh oh! I'm not buying £20 of other junk I don't need today which means it's not eligible for free delivery! so my only options are to buy more stuff from Amazon, shell out £2.99, or subscribe to Amazon prime. Whatever I choose Amazon wins and I spend more than I want to.
Let's look at the other seller.
Oh look, Malik & Gill will send it for free. I don't mind waiting a couple more days for the sake of £3. I can now remove the shitty Amazon one from my cart and just get this one instead.
Amazon purposely hides the delivery fees of sellers who undercut Amazon's own rising fees. They do everything they can to push you into paying them more than you need to.
The best option of course is to not buy anything from Amazon. But ultimately I'm a realist and I know that many many people find themselves backed into a corner and I'm not gonna judge anyone for it. But if you can boycott, I would recommend it. Because these delivery fees clearly aren't being used to put plenty of food on the table for their drivers and warehouse workers.

Ready For Prime Time
We see it everywhere. Apple Pay. Google Pay. Paypal. Pay with Klarna. Everyone wants a piece of the action, even if it is only a small sliver. With total retail sales at $6.5 trillion, there’s plenty of money to be made at the margin, even if the margin is small.
But now Amazon is extending its reach. Buy With Prime launches at the end of the month, and allows partner retailers to leverage every aspect of Amazon’s might, from order fulfillment to payment processing and returns. Of course, Amazon assesses several payments along the way, from storage to packing and shipping, not to mention credit card processing. Customers get all the same benefits they get when using their Prime account at Amazon. And partner companies can still offer their own order fulfillment and processing if customers opt out of the Prime feature.
In some regards, it’s like being in bed with the enemy. But as they say (whoever “they” is), if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
Amazon put Buy With Prime into test market last Spring among its existing Fulfilled By Amazon (FBA) clients. It works rather seamlessly: partner retailers simply add a BWP logo and button, all copy and paste just like PayPal code. Oh, and ship some inventory to the nearest Amazon warehouse.
Partnering with Amazon relieves the small company from having to handle time-consuming (and expensive) order fulfillment responsibilities, storage, as well as shipping, for which Amazon has already brokered huge discounts. Basically, you can “off-shore” multiple layers of your business, expand your reach, and quite possibly enjoy higher sales and profits.
From Amazon’s perspective, this is not all that different from food manufacturers selling off unused capacity by contracting to make private label goods. Amazon is doing the same, albeit in warehousing, packing, and shipping.
There was once a time when Amazon was demonized for being too successful. After all, shopping online necessarily displaces smaller business along the way. But that’s like complaining 110 years ago that auto manufacturers were putting bicycle retailers and farriers out of business. They had to adapt, or go out of business. Today’s small businesses have similarly been forced to evolve or die.
Or partner with Amazon. And to be fair, Amazon will probably take some heat for reaching its tentacles into more of the retail pie.
But Amazon has also reached a plateau, and has begun laying off 18,000 workers. Anything it can do to help put the company in better balance is a good thing, and BWP may very well play a big role.
All things considered, this is a good move for small retailers as well as Amazon. While smaller companies must have an e-commerce presence, managing the back end of that can be a major distraction from storefront operations. Letting the expert—in this case, Amazon—do that is genius for both parties.
And I as a customer find this particularly appealing, because I’ve been clicking those Amazon Buy Now buttons more times than I wish to admit.

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES AND STUDIES, Early July 2022, Part 2
As promised, here is the second half of my first half of July summary of ecommerce and online news and resources, covering advertising, ecommerce sites, customer psychology and more. You can read Part 1 here.

ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS (minus social media)
General
Prime Day in the US saw 8.5% more sales than last year. “Surging e-commerce sales with this year’s promotions show that despite inflation and competing costs like higher gas prices and travel, online shoppers are ready to take advantage of deals in a number of product categories.”
Google is once again trying to up its ecommerce game. Clicking and going directly to the cart from a Google search page is the latest change they plan on introducing [long read].
Amazon
Does Amazon have a deal with USPS that prioritizes its packages? A majority of USPS workers surveyed say they’ve been pushed to deliver Amazon packages over any other type of mail.
In the meantime, Amazon is the third-largest small-package shipper in the US, behind USPS and UPS - and they are closing in on UPS. They are also reducing their carbon footprint by using “e-cargo bikes” in London right now.
If you are doing keyword research for Amazon, check out a few of these tools and features. I also like this one.
One problem for Amazon - they may be growing too big and alienating too many people to have enough workers in the near future (2024, by its own estimates).
Another problem may have been averted, however, with Amazon agreeing to change some activities to avoid anti-competition investigations in the EU. The European Commission is taking comments on the proposals until September 9.
eBay
The last former eBay employee charged with harassing the owners of EcommerceBytes has pleaded guilty. “The scheme included sending items like a box of live cockroaches, a funeral wreath and books about surviving the loss of a spouse to the couple’s home with the hopes of getting them to stop publishing negative articles about the company, prosecutors say. eBay employees also set up fake social media accounts to send threatening messages to the couple and posted the couple’s home address online.”

eBay is now collecting and remitting Canadian sales taxes on within-Canada orders, as of July 1, 2022. That means that sellers registered to collect and remit these taxes will have to authorize eBay to collect that money for them, and buyers will now have to pay taxes on some items that would have previously been tax-free due to the seller’s tax status. eBay was originally charging GST/HST on bullion, but is fixing that and will refund anyone charged incorrectly..
Canadian sellers will be able to buy FedEx labels through eBay “soon”.
Poshmark
Some Poshmark sellers, frustrated with the new search algorithm, decided to copy Etsy sellers and do a weeklong boycott by closing their sites starting May 11.
Shopify
Shopify bought a logistics and fulfillment company Deliverr early in May, to enhance the existing Shopify fulfillment set-up. “Shopify says it will also roll out a warehouse management system across its facilities by the end of the second quarter.”
Payment Processing
Not surprisingly, “buy now, pay later” services are boosting sales for websites and increasing debt for buyers.
PayPal is including more cryptocurrency in its services, but it is a slow roll out starting in the US.

The Audience manager in Google Ads has been upgraded; here’s a straight forward overview. Then they updated the Ads Editor and added 13 new features.
Google announced 7 different updates to Google Performance Max campaigns recently, so if you are using them, check out this overview.
Microsoft shopping campaigns now update automatically as of July 10. That means when an item sells out, your account will reflect that and stop advertising the item. They’ve also added a store-wide discount option directly to ads.
STATS, DATA, TRACKING
Several European countries have a problem with Google Analytics storing EU customer data in the US, with Italy being the latest.
Yes, a lot of people either dislike Google Analytics 4, or are just afraid of even trying it, but since it is going to be the only option starting in July 2023, learning it sooner rather than later is probably for the best. Migrate to the new version in just 4 steps. Here are some important settings you may want to employ. More features are being added all the time, including bounce rates and conversions just this week.
If one of your complaints is that GA4 doesn’t have a landing page report like the current version does, the good news is you can build your own in just 10 steps. If you are confused by the new Acquisitions reports, here’s how to interpret them, and recreate your faves from the old version. GA4 also now works with Search Console Insights.
Speaking of the Google Search Console, the new video indexing report is slowly rolling out.
If you haven’t set up Google Data Studio yet, check out these instructions. “Data Studio is a data visualization platform that makes reports easier to create and understand. It lets you to bring in sets of data from various places into one location so you can turn that information into an easy-to-understand report. As a bonus, Data Studio is free to use.”

In the US, even discount retailers are taking a hit from inflation, with sales below projections for most in the first quarter of 2022. Businesses with more expensive items are mostly still doing pretty well, however. “Sales at its upscale Bloomingdale’s department stores rose 28% in the first quarter, while they rose 25% at its luxury beauty outlet Blue Mercury. Macy's CEO Jeff Gennette said that at households earning more than $75,000 yearly, the customer was "very healthy, and spend levels were quite strong."
Dollar stores are reaping the benefits that Walmart and Target are losing, however. Perhaps surprisingly, online prices are actually dropping recently.

The antitrust case against Prime
The starting gun on Big Tech trustbusting was fired in 2017, when Lina Khan, then a law student (now an FTC trustbuster!) published “Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox,” a law-review article showing how Amazon formed a monopoly without legal trouble.

The key was a Reagan-era shift in antitrust policy, based on the theories of the Nixonite criminal Robert Bork. Bork held that the only time we should fight monopolies is when they inflicted “consumer welfare” harms, by driving up prices.
That meant that monopolies that made prices go down — by abusing their workers and suppliers, rather than their customers — were safe from antitrust enforcement. Borkism was hugely popular with wealthy people, who bankrolled its global expansion.
Every president since Reagan has embraced and furthered the “consumer welfare” doctrine, which meant that when Amazon tapped into the capital markets for billions, it was able to safely offer prices below their wholesale cost, using investor cash for subsidies.
Then, after it had extinguished all its competitors, it could end its subsidy and switch it to its suppliers — forcing them to cut their margins and wages to unsustainable levels to maintain those prices.
This was “Amazon’s antitrust paradox”: it could inflict vast monopoly harms on the economy but never face antitrust enforcement because it harmed workers and other businesses, not “consumers.”
Now that the Big Tech trustbusting movement is in full swing, state attorneys general and the feds (DoJ and FTC) have brought antitrust actions against GAFAM, including multiple suits against Amazon.

As Matt Stoller explains, the DC-Amazon case has a better chance of succeeding than any of the other antitrust actions brought so far, because it accuses Amazon of driving up prices.

To understand how that works, you need to understand the role Amazon Prime plays in the company’s business. Jeff Bezos described Prime as “a moat around our best customers.” Once you pay for fast, flat-rate delivery, you’re powerfully incentivized to order from Amazon.
Locking customers into buying from Amazon locks businesses into selling on Amazon. That allows Amazon to structure its own market — and the markets of all other businesses.
For example, Amazon gives search preference to Prime-eligible items. Realistically, if you’re an Amazon seller and you’re not in the first screen or two of results, you will not make any sales.
(Incidentally, if you’ve ever seen those breakdowns of the ad-tech market that show Amazon making billions from ad-sales and wondered how that worked, it’s not actual ad-sales revenue in the way that Google and Facebook get paid for ads)
(Those “ad-sale” billions are the fees Amazon charges its own sellers for search-results preference — to have a “sponsored product” show up in the results when you search on Amazon — it’s not an “ad” — it’s a “bribe”)
If you want to be Prime eligible, you have to sign up for a lot of conditions: you have to promise you won’t sell more cheaply anywhere else, you have to let Amazon pack and ship your products, and you have to give up commissions of up to 45% on each sale.
To recap: Prime means you have to sell on Amazon because that’s where everyone buys. To sell on Prime, you have to give Amazon 45% of the sale-price, and you can’t sell more cheaply anywhere else.
What that means is that every merchant that wants to sell on Amazon (which is every merchant that wants to sell goods on the internet outside of China) has to charge 35–45% more for its products, and not just on Amazon, but everywhere.
The “free shipping” you get on Prime items is actually paid for by a one-third markup that everyone who buys anything on Amazon, or in any other store, pays.
In other words, Amazon hasn’t just used its monopoly power to raise prices on its own customers, but on everyone’s customers. And that is the one thing that US antitrust law still vigorously punishes.

It's Only the Rain: A DMC Film Noir AU

Amazon Rainforest, eat your heart out, Dante thought as he tried to light yet another cigarette, only for the torrent of rain to slip past his cupped hand and soak both the match and paper. He grumbled, lit another match, but that instantly fizzled out as well. Redgrave was notorious for its damp weather, but this was ridiculous. It had been almost two weeks since anyone had seen the sun, with clouds and drizzle blocking the heavens, coating the city in a dull, gloomy aura.
After several dozen aggravating attempts, he realized no match or lighter could light the soggy excuse of a cigarette, so with a sigh, he flicked it into a puddle with its other discarded siblings, all of them unlit. Usually, Dante would never let those go to waste, being constantly broke, but this time...well, he could afford to be a bit wasteful.
Three days ago, while he had been sorting out his mail, he came across a package. Inside, there had been something that caused him to nearly choke. Wrapped in a blue silk ribbon was the largest wad of cash he’d ever seen. And that wasn’t all. There was a note, short and to the point.
I require your services to retrieve a very precious item that I cannot acquire on my own. This object is in possession of Mundus, and I will pay any price to get it back. Both he and the package are currently headquartered in the Mallet Island Fish Cannery. Consider this an advance fee, and full payment to be given once the item is retrieved.
Well, it was all mysterious, and not very specific, but as a private investigator Dante had gotten jobs done with less information. Yet even if the note hadn’t come with the promise of a fat reward, he would have done it. Because it was that name: Mundus , King of the Criminal Underworld. Some people said he was a demon wearing the skin of a gangster, but Dante knew better. He was only a man, a man who had murdered his father and mother, and this was a prime opportunity to get some long overdue vengeance. He only wished he wasn’t doing it alone....
When he had fled the destruction, his elder brother, Vergil had been at his side, dragging him away from the corpse of their mother and swearing revenge on the bastard that shattered their childhood. They’d scratched out a living afterwards, nigh inseparable. Until they were eighteen, that is, when a massive argument had broken out. Vergil was determined to continue his plan to avenge their parents, while Dante just wanted to live out a normal life full of women, booze, and gambling. Why dig up the past, when the present was much less painful? His brother hadn’t liked that response, and had left their makeshift office, slamming the door so hard that ten years later it still wouldn’t shut all the way.
Dante had sulked for a while, but eventually he decided to put his sleuthing skills to good use, tracking Vergil all the way to a strange island called Fortuna, where the trail went cold.. No, not cold, frigid, as if Vergil didn’t want anyone following him. And so Dante had thrown his hands up in defeat, and had gone back to his ramshackle office, and lived his life of smoky bars, dames in distress, and lots of whiskey.
But now as he looked up at the warehouse, barely illuminated by a buzzing electric light, he had a gift wrapped opportunity to make things right. He’d cased the joint all day and despite it being a fish cannery, the fishy smell was completely metaphorical. There had been no workers, no deliveries, no sounds of machinery. The note was right, this was just a front for some shady operation, most likely a warehouse for illegal booze. Dante hadn’t seen Mundus going in or out, but something in his gut told him that this was the place. This was where it would all end.
He ran across the lot and plastered himself against the wall, Ebony ready and primed. He waited three heartbeats, and then, with a heavy grunt, he kicked the door open, shattering the lock. Despite the job of private dick requiring restraint, he couldn’t help but be a bit flamboyant. Let Ole’ Mundie feel the fear that the eight year old twins experienced when he and his goons torched their home just because his dad had decided to retire from the gangster business. Maybe he’d light up the place when he was done, if the rain permitted, burn it to the ground, just like their childhood home.
Decades of experience guided his movements as he quickly pointed his gun out, first forward, then to the side. There was no one there. All he could hear was his heavy breathing, his heartbeat, and the rain on the metal roof. There was no mistaking the smell of booze and burnt oak that permeated everything here. At the very least, there should be a goon or two here guarding the joint who he could ‘ask’ for directions. But first, he would need to get a hold of them, and sneaking around, hoping he would stumble across one was a waste of his time. Best to let them come to him.
“Here I come, ready or not,” he sang out. “Don’t blame me if you get caught!”
Still nothing. Dante frowned. A treasure trove of hooch wouldn’t just be let out in the open. It had the feelings of a trap.
“Well, well, well…” a voice dripped down from above, and Dante’s head snapped up to see a figure in the half darkness, standing on a catwalk. Even if he couldn’t make out the features, there was no mistaking that baritone voice, aged by countless Fortuna cigars, echoing off the walls. “I was always wondering when that double-crossing bastard’s youngest brat would show up. Took your sweet time, didn’t ya?”
Dante just smiled, resisting the urge to just cap the guy there and then. He wanted to savour this moment.
“Well, revenge is just like whiskey. It only gets better with age.” His fingers fidgeted on the trigger, waiting for some of the gangster’s underlings to show up, slightly alarmed when none of them did. “And I was always the tardy one...hell, I was late to my own birth!”
“And of course, you’re late to your own funeral…” Mundus snarked.
“Yeah, I’m late...but it’s not my funeral, it’s yours !” Ebony snapped up, his finger already pushing against the trigger, only for a blow to catch him on the side, causing him to go flying into a barrel and sending its contents spraying all over the place. He heard the clatter of his beloved gun bouncing off the floor as whatever of him not soaked by the rain was now doused in whiskey. . But what was more important than the squandered nectar of the gods—a sad waste, he mused—was the fact that Dante was in it deep. As he came to a sudden stop against the metal wall, all he could see in the dim light was a shadowed figure, dressed in an impeccable overcoat, their dark felt fedora obscuring their face.
“Ah, Angelo,” Mundus grinned like the Cheshire Cat, “so good of you to join us. I’m a very busy man, so be a good little boy and take our guest out. Permanently.” The newcomer was strangely hesitant, stilling slightly at the order. Mundus’s voice lowered to a icy chill. “You know what will happen to your precious little item if you refuse…” He didn’t elaborate, but whatever it was, it was important enough to Angelo that he yanked Dante up and dragged him outside, with Mundus’s cackling echoing behind him.
The rain was still pouring, Angleo’s grip vise-like on his shoulder as he slowly pushed him towards the edge of the docks. No doubt Mundus had knitted some cement booties for Dante, but the P.I. still had an ace up his sleeve.
He ‘slipped’ in a puddle, and the enforcer’s grip loosened enough for Dante to twist and land a sucker punch in the goon’s stomach. He heard a pained grunt, the first noise the guy had made, and his hold released, allowing him to break free. Yet the guy wouldn’t let up, quickly regained his bearings, and, with speed Dante hadn’t expected, threw out a kick that would have snapped a lesser man’s spine in half. Thankfully all it did was launch Dante into the air, and he landed in a painful heap several yards away. Above the ringing in his ears, he heard the sound of footsteps slowly approaching, ready to take him to his watery grave. So, he pulled out his saving grace—Ivory, hidden in his coat and already loaded, swung out and thunder rang through the air as it fired.
At near point blank range, he had no problem hitting his target. His captor stumbled back, his hat falling off as he collapsed to the ground; even in the darkness, there was no missing a white flash of hair, framing the man's face to the point that he looked like a mirror image of Dante. A twin .
Ignoring the pain in his stomach from the kick and dread, he ran to the man’s side, hoping to get a better look. It was just a trick of the light, that’s all. It couldn’t be Vergil that was working for their arch enemy, it couldn’t be his own brother that he’d just shot. The ice blue eyes that stared back at him forced him to realize that it was.
“Vergil!” he cried out, kneeling down to pick his brother up. He looked for a way to stop the bleeding, but the blossoming crimson that refused to be washed away showed him that it was too late. He knew he only had a few minutes to ask questions.
“Why…? Why work for him?”
The answer he got nearly knocked him flat on his back.
“My son. Mundus has my son.”
Wait, Vergil was a FATHER? Was that why he had practically vanished all those years ago? To try to avoid the twin’s fate befalling his son?
“I said I would pay any price to get him back, and . . .” A gurgled laugh came from his throat. “I am glad to pay it. But Dante,” his grip was iron strong on Dante’s coat. “The job is not finished. You need to get Nero to safety.”
“Where’s his mom? The kid doesn’t need me! He needs his dad!”
To this, Vergil had no answer. The grip that had once dragged him kicking and screaming from their burning home weakened, and the hand fell into the blood-mingled water, leaving Dante alone, again. But , Dante mused as he laid his twin’s head down and slowly got up, staring back at the warehouse, I still have two unfinished jobs to do. And a P.I. who doesn’t fulfill his client’s requests isn’t a P.I. worth hiring.

Dante had spent decades about what he would say before finishing off Mundus. “ My Parents send their regards?” “I’ll see you in Hell?” Or there was his and Vergil’s favourite line, “Jackpot!”
Ironic, as the gangster choked on a pool of his own blood, that Dante didn’t care about him at all. All he was focused on was the tied up little tyke—couldn’t be older than ten—cowering in the corner. Flicking his penknife open, he cautiously approached the boy, whose white hair glistened in the dim light of the office light.
“Hey, Nero,” he said as he cut through the coarse rope, trying to ignore the way his hands shook. “My name’s Dante. Your dad hired me to get you out of here.” At the mention of his name the kid’s eyes widened, and he allowed the P.I. to pick him up and carry him away from the now silent corpse.
“My dad said you’d come!” He looked around as they made their way outside, where the first rays of dawn peeked out into a strangely clear sky; the rain had finally finished. “Where is he?”
Dante said nothing. What could he say? That he’d just murdered the kid’s father, his own brother? He just closed his eyes and took a deep shuddering breath.
“Mr. Dante, are you crying?”
He faked a smile and closed his eyes against the pink light, not wanting to face the clear new day.
“Nah, kid. It’s only the rain.”

🔥WHAT IS HAPPENING TO AUSTRALIA??🔥
- 500 MILLION hectares burnt (compared to the 1 million of the California bushfires, & 500 thousand of the Amazon one). That’s more than the size of Belgium!
- 19 people dead and 12 missing (as of today), hundreds upon hundreds of homes have been destroyed. Many people are living in shelters right now because they have nowhere to go.
- 480 MILLION animals dead including rare species of wildlife (koalas are now back on the critically endangered list). Wildlife hospitals are at CAPACITY.
- Our capital city has now been labelled as the WORST air quality city in the world. Smoke fills the air, their post offices are shut until further notice. Businesses in major cities in the country are sending their workers home. Major highways keep closing then opening then closing down again.
- The smoke & flames are engulfing so much of the country that you can SEE IT FROM SPACE. The temperature in NSW has just hit a high of 48*C (118*F) this week. The smoke is now also so large that it is affecting the air quality all the way over in New Zealand!!!
- The Australian Navy have just rescued people who had been fleeing on boats to the oceans to get away from the fires (this is an all time record of people rescued on home-soil by the Navy). The army has also been deployed to help.
- Many cities & towns now have no internet, electricity, or any sort of power. Petrol stations are closing down which means no fuel.
- So many rural communities all over the country have also been suffering from one of the top most intense droughts recorded. This started just before all of the fires.
- People are buying equipment for our Firefighters because they can’t keep up with demand (due to our government cutting their funding!!!). Many Aussies are angry with our Prime Minister, who keeps deflecting questions on climate change and saying ‘let’s rally together’ without actually specifying what he is going to do for the future of Australia now that it is all burning up.
- The harbour bridge and opera house are completely covered in smoke. Ash covers car windows. People are being evacuated all over the country. Some people are staying to protect their homes... The air quality in SYDNEY is equal to smoking 30 cigarettes every time you take a breath. And there’s so much more that’s happening that I couldn’t fit.
- Australia now holds the record of the ‘largest fires in recorded history in the world’, and hardly anyone seems to be paying attention. WE NEED YOUR HELP. When the Amazon was burning, when the Notre Dame was burning, when California was burning you all screamed for someone to do something. We’re begging for help and no one will hear us.
