@theocxcanonweek day 3; out in nature
Seven friends walk through the woods, heading to the beach. Sideswipe is displeased with the lengthy route through the woods.
“Who made this route and why must we use it?” He complains.
“Quit complaining,” Sunstreaker tells him.
Jamie runs ahead of the six. With her powers to sense things around her, they wonder what she’s running towards. Trusting it’s not an intruder or Decepticon, as Jamie would have mentioned. Jamie’s poor mental state has Drift running after her.
“Uh, do we follow?” Sideswipe asks.
“No, we continue to the beach,” Crosshairs replies, “I think they’ll be fine.”
Drift catches up enough to see Jamie running. Her reddish orange gi helps make her easier to see. He panics seeing she turned to a path that meets the river.
He picks up the pace, worried she’s not looking to walk along the river.
Jamie stops in the middle of the path. Still a little way from the river. She knows Drift is following her.
“What are you doing?” The mech asks once he catches up.
Jamie surprised Drift by taking his hand and leading him down the path.
As the two walk down the path, they hear ducks. Drift realizes he should have known Jamie was running toward animals. The two find a spot to watch the ducks without scaring them. They don’t realize some ducks are watching them but resume their duck chatter.
They observe a duck emerge from the river and approach them.
Standing two feet away from the two humans, the duck quacks repeatedly.
“This is unusual,” Drift observes, “I’d expect this back at the point in the park in DC. Those ducks see us often, but we’ve never visited the ducks here. They can’t be used to humans.”
“I doubt she’s telling us to leave, either.”
The female duck walks closer to the two. Enough that Jamie can pick her up.
“You are an odd duck,” Jamie comments as the duck enjoys being held.
Jamie walks toward the river. Not a single duck panics, even as she sits by the river and a talker human approaches.
“These ducks are unusual,” Drift comments while sitting next to Jamie.
Some ducks leave the pond and join the two.
Drift gets his phone out to take pictures.
“Ok, we’ve been here for twenty minutes. We’re supposed to be at the beach and at this point, I’m sure our friends are worried,” Drift says, “sorry, ducks. We’ll come back.”
The six friends have the beach set up for the planned afternoon stay and are only in their swimming attire, but want to wait before eating lunch. The friends hear about the ducks’ strange behavior and want to go to the river. Opting for a detour on the way back home.
weekend camping trip did not go to plan at all but salvaged what I could by making it a day trip instead - a walk in the beautiful aus bushland & dinner for my BIL.
