Today's polish is a classic! Every time I see a Greatest Prugly Polishes of All Time list, this polish is always there. It's a mix of pea soup green and baby poop brown. My photos make it look slightly more brown than it does irl, but the color in the bottle is pretty accurate. I have to say I liked it....? I couldn't help but stare at my nails in confused wonder. It's so gross and yet so pretty. And because I can't leave a good cream polish alone, I also threw a topper on it and I loved how that looked too. What do you all think of this? Would you wear this one? Do you like it more or less with the topper? I'm dying to hear what you think! This is Elysian Fields from Orly and the topper is Suspish from Loud Lacquer.

Prologue
Tumblr media
Masterlist - Next
You did it. You couldn’t believe it but after years of studies, weekly mental breakdowns and a coffee addiction that remained up to this day, you managed to land a position in the journalists team that were covering the F1 as well as F2 GP for the french television. You had fought tooth and nails for this position and you were delighted to join them. You would work in the media pen, interviewing the drivers after their races and outside of them during media day. It was going to be a lot of work and you knew that you were going to be underpressure a lot, but you had met the team and they were all so welcoming with you that anxiety was quickly replaced with anticipation.
So here you were, waiting with the team, in the Orly airport, to board your flight. The check in had been done, you were going over a few details with Marion who would be your guide for the first few weeks. you were not going to be thrown to feed the lions totally unprepared. Beside the media pen, you were also in charge of social media. You would be the one doing live-streaming on Instagram after the Grand Prix to debrief the races and the weeks when no Grand Prix would happen, you would be doing live-streaming on Twitch, inviting viewers to talk about the season a bit more in depth. A lot of work is on the horizon, but damn, you couldn’t wait.
“So Y/N, how do you feel about your first GP? Is there one driver you can’t wait to interview,” asked you Jean.
“Lewis, for sure. I just want to know what is in the mind of a seventh world champion. How he prepares for a race, his analyses. He has such a calm vibe around him.” you replied instantly. You admired Lewis a lot, not only because of his performances but also because of the values he carried and how he changed the sport.
“And the one you are dreading to interview?” asked Marion.
You took a little pause to think about the question. You didn’t dread to interview anyone. You were excited to meet all of them.
“Maybe Lance. Not because I don’t like him, it’s just that he seems very closed off. He doesn’t like the media and his answers are always short. It’s a bit intimidating.”
“You’ll be fine, don't worry. You will need a little bit of time to adjust to each driver and team's ways of replying to the media but you’ll be good. You wouldn’t be here if you were not.” reassured her Jean.
“Red Bull is probably the worst team to interview. They are controlling everything, each interaction is planned. Jean, do you remember that time, I think it was back then when Ricciardo was still at RB and we wanted to make a long interview for the Australian GP? We had to do so much back and forth between the PR team and ours. But we managed to have ten minutes on the Saturday right after qualifying.”
“You were determined to have him. I remember you saying that you wouldn’t get any sleep until you had booked an interview with him.”
“And I did it. This is what this job is about, not giving up. You are going to be confronted by some real assholes out there, you will have to play dirty sometimes but at the end of the day, it’s all good memories and when the audience is saying that the interview was nice, then you know that it was worth the effort.”
You nodded. You knew what being a woman working in the journalism field was like. Your internships had shown you that sexism was huge in this job and even more in sport journalism. You had been one of the few girls that were following the sport journalism specialization in your college. You had done your last year of college in New York as your school was a partner with one there and you also learned the hard way that no matter the country, the same problems were remaining. Your time there was something you would like to forget. It was awful. Being away from your family, being under pressure a lot because of the school and the prestigious internship you had landed there... It had been hard, but it had made you strong enough to endure what would be coming your way. At least, you hoped so.
Tumblr media
Charles knew that this season was going to be complicated and that there was no chance of him winning the championship. The pre tests went awfully wrong and he felt right from the get go that the car had several problems. He just hoped that they would still be able to fight for a good result in the constructor championship.
He had spent a long time talking to Fred, trying to get reassurance and what would be the plan from now on. He trusted him. He had been so happy when he learned that he would replace Mattia. He had thought that maybe things would finally turn in his favor, that he would be the first driver in the team. But even that had been crushed pretty quickly when Fred told him that his priority was not to feed his drivers ego but to rebuild the team. It was, then, a pissed off Charles who joined his friend Joris and a few other drivers like Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Lando Norris and George Russell for a drink before starting the first race week of the season. He needed to forget the tests of pre pre-season.
“So should we expect to have a nice fight between you and Red Bull?” asked Pierre to his best friend.
“No. I don’t feel good while driving. I feel like it’s unpredictable and I don’t like that.” confessed the Monegasque.
“I fear that Red Bull will be particularly strong this year.” added George, as a matter of fact.
“They showed off during the tests. What will it be during the actual race? One thing for sure, it’s not the McLaren that will put up a fight. It’s a shitbox.” said Lando.
They kept talking about their cars and the first race of the season until late in the night.
The next three days, Charles spent them between intense training and meetings with the team. He didn’t see the time flying and soon it was time for him to wear his Ferrari team’s merchandising and to put on a nice face in front of the camera, pretending that he liked the car and was ready for the season.
After a press conference that he thought was way too long, he had to go in front of the journalists. On his way, on his scooter, he met Pierre who was coming back from the media pen, whistling.
“So, how was it? Any new faces among the journalists?” Charles asked.
“It was the same as usual. The same questions from everyone and I feel like a broken record, having to repeat myself to I don’t know how many news outlets and TV channels. And yeah, the french TV has a new girl. It striked me because she is really young. Not more than twenty-five for sure. But nice questions. Different ones. It was nice.”
Tumblr media
Saying that you were stressed out and on the verge of panicking was an understatement. You were pretty confident the night before, when you were lying in your bed, thinking about today and all the questions you had prepared after watching the testings. You were proud of your questions, you had sent them to Marion so she could check them out and add her comments, which she did. She helped you make your questions sharper and clearer. You didn’t have much time to ask them so they needed to be short and precise. You had reworked on them, following her advice, and you were happy about how they turned out.
But crossing the journalists’ entry in the paddock, you could feel the nerves kicked in and suddenly you felt like an impostor. You were too young, you had just graduated, you had little experience and they gave you such a big responsibility. It was too much. You felt your breath caught in your throat and your vision blurring until a reassuring hand was pressed on your shoulder.
“I know what you are thinking. Don’t. You deserve to be here. You wouldn’t have been hired if we didn’t believe in you.” Marion whispered in your ear.
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because you are a woman. It means that the interviews you had to go through were twice harder than the ones men went through. And you managed to beat them. So you got this. And I’ll be here, you won’t be alone.”
“Thanks Marion.” you said, thankful for her kind words.
And the interviews went well. You quickly forgot the stress and soon you were in your zone. Ready, confident, determined. When Lewis approached you tried to not let the fan inside you come out to the surface. It was not the time. You could see him slightly flinched when you mentioned the last season and the several car problems he had. You assumed that he was not very happy with your question, but you didn’t care. You weren’t there to ask pointless questions. You were there because you wanted to know what went through their minds, not to sugarcoat things. After Lewis, it was time for Pierre and you were happy but nervous to conduct the interview in French.
“So Pierre, you are in a whole new team that was fourth in the championship last year. You come from a back of the grid team, how do you feel about this new challenge?”
“I’m happy. I’m still getting used to how things work but I’m really excited and I can’t wait to work with everyone and get to know the team better during the season.”
“What are your goals?”
“Winning races, trying to bring the best points for the team. You said it, Alpine was fourth last year so the goal is to keep this position and maybe fight with the top teams. That could be great.”
His PR officer signaled that the time was off and he made his way out of the room. They had a few minutes before the next group of drivers would come into the room. You turned to Marion who was next to you, watching you conduct the interviews.
“So, how was I?” you asked.
“Great! You definitely were better by the end of the session. I could feel your nerves at the beginning.”
“I’m going to go outside to breathe. It’s so crowded here.”
You took your bottle of water and headed to the exit. It was so hot outside but definitely hotter inside. You were fumbling with your bag, trying to reach for your notes when you heard a huge ‘watch out’ coming from your left. You didn’t have much time to react as you felt a scooter hitting you and a man, dressed with a red tee shirt, looking very sorry and rushing towards you.

Author's note: Here it is, the prologue of my new fic I Can See you! It will be shorter than what you are used to coming from me. Less chapters, less longer as well. I hope you will like it as much as I do!
Don't hesitate to leave a comment or an ask, as well as reblogging and leaving a like. Besides the fact that I absolutely love to read you, it helps a lot for the story to find its audience. I also have a taglist for this story, so if you want to be added so you never miss a chapter, let me know.

Junkers Ju 290A-7 in flight post-war. Note the FE3400 painted on the tail. This was an American classification for captured equipment, FE meaning Foreign Equipment. The Ju 290 was significantly larger than the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and Avro Lancaster, and only slightly smaller than the Boeing B-29 Superfortress.
It was flown to the US by Colonel Harold E. Watson from Orly, Paris to Wright Field on 28 July 1945, via the Azores. The captured aircraft, with its German insignia repainted, was a frequent performer at air shows at Freeman Field and Wright Field. When the aircraft was scrapped at Wright Field in 1946, a plastic explosive device of German manufacture was discovered in the wing near to a fuel tank. Was listening to Strawberry Fields Forever a couple of days ago for the first time in years, and I thought “wow this is good.”
And then laughed at myself, because ORLY?? You think? A song by the Beatles is good? One of the most famous and well-loved songs by one of the most famous and well-loved bands of all time?? It might be good?? You think????? 🙄
If you haven’t seen the video it’s pretty trippy:

The Woodruff Arts Center campus is the permanent home of a Rodin sculpture cast in bronze.
The Shade was donated by the French government as a memorial, in honor of 106 art patrons from Atlanta who died in a 1962 plane crash at Orly Field near Paris. The statue was cast in bronze in 1968, from Rodin’s original 1880 mold. The life-sized figure stands on an inscribed granite block, and is encircled by a low wall containing the names of the Atlanta Art Association members who lost their lives on that June day.
This is public art, meant for everyone to enjoy. (via High Museum)

Guy Orly Iradukunda, former junior World No. 86 in 2014, who came all the way from Burundi, made his return to the Challenger circuit since the Winnetka Challenger 2018 upon receiving a wild card in this week's Kigali 1 Challenger. He faced an interesting challenge in the current World No. 730 Jacob Brumm, who graduated from Baylor University in 2022 and won his maiden ITF title in M15 San Diego 2023 and attained an ITF career-high ranking of 82. Knowing both players, this could be interesting to see how the former pick up where he left off, as well as how the latter progress in a field of a kind.
Initially, even though both players had their lead blown on return, they still managed to hold their service games, which might have suggested that the match might possibly be service game-heavy. However, Iradukunda's failed volley to J. Brumm's forehand pass created the latter's set point before its conversion due to a double fault (4-3).
Subsequently, J. Brumm then held his serves to 5-3, and seemed in control of the flow once he passed Iradukunda at the net, with a +1 failed volley that created his set point over a deep return before its conversion thanks to his forehand pass to Iradukunda's failed volley to break for the first set 6-3. As a result, J. Brumm set himself one set ahead from victory.

Distribution Advocates Presents Premieres: Who Controls The Distribution Of Films?
Tumblr media
There are times when people from different industries are in the same battle. In this case, it's independent filmmakers and independent podcasters. Both "indies" struggle against the dominance of large, legacy players in their industry.
In podcasting, indie podcasters like The Life Shift, Bippity Boppity Business, and 6 Degrees Of Cats battle against the financial war chest of Amazon, Apple, iHeart, SiriusXM, Spotify and a few other audio giants.
In filmmaking, indie filmmakers do battle with film companies whose logos are emblazoned on movies you see in theaters or on streaming TV. Indie filmmakers are shut out of many distribution channels.
Over the past six months, Distribution Advocates researched, developed, and interviewed over a dozen of filmmakers, industry insiders, expert historians, and activist thought-leaders for its new podcast, Distribution Advocates Presents. The first episodes  dropped on January 31, 2024, on Spotify, Amazon Music, this Substack, and other TBA platforms.
Distribution Advocates announced: "Spurred by our work as filmmakers in narrative change, we chase the myths and realities of our own field of independent filmmaking in search of a more just and equitable ecosystem. The stories featured in our podcast are usually whispered in dark corners at industry cocktail parties—but for the industry to shift, we must openly question some of our deepest-held beliefs about how independent films get made and released, and who profits from them."
What's the podcast about?
Distribution Advocates Presents demystifies the world of independent film distribution with honest insider stories. How can we better understand what’s happening to the ecosystem and start to create more equitable distribution systems moving forward?
Hosted by Avril Speaks, filmmaker and co-founder of Distribution Advocates, this series of conversations examines concerning practices in the industry and explores innovative and sustainable solutions.
Speaks is an honest broker as a podcast host. She's clear, concise, and anxious to explain the arcane world of film distribution to listeners like you and me who basically have little idea how films get distributed.
In the first episode, Avril Speaks discusses sales agents in film distribution. Maybe it's just me, but I have no idea what a sales agent in film distribution does, or that they even existed until I heard this podcast.
In this maiden voyage, Speaks helps listeners get up to speed on the film distribution industry. Speaks and her guests demystify the role of sales agents, and explore one filmmaker’s journey in finding distribution without one.
With Speaks as our capable guide, we learn what sales agents do, and why they matter. In the episode, host Speaks talks with a number of sources, including Pat Murphy, Orly Ravid, Alece Oxendine, Set Hernandez, Abby Sun, Efuru Flowers, and Kaila Sarah Hier.
In the episode, guest / indie filmmaker and community organizer Set Hernandez says, "They made me feel like a toy in a toy shop where they grab, inspect and decide, 'You know what. I don't want this toy'"
This is a critically important podcast because it points out a troubling reality. In any art form or media format, it's always the distribution that is the pinch point. Want to have your art displayed? You need a gallery. Want to have your film seen? You need a film distributor.  Want to release a podcast? You can, but how can it get enough visibility to survive? Podcast networks. Want to publish a book? You can self-publish, but how can you distinguish yourself from the traffic jam of other such books? You need a publisher or a marketer.
Check out this episode and the entire series of Distribution Advocates Presents. Future episodes include film festivals, awards, exhibitions, and, of course, film school.

Can you tell me about Milo?
can i tell you about milo-
anon. i would be delighted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Milo is one of 6 main characters from my work-in-progress book titled 'Arson: And Other Crimes' and he is... a mess. And honestly, out of all of the characters, he deserves to be.
Milo is very old, and cannot die. Not really anyway- i mean technically he can die but he gets better.
He's the most powerful character in the story, but can you tell? no
He's aroace
He has really bad eyesight in his human form and sometimes his bones hurt. He has arthritis from the strain that shifting into his creature form puts on his body but the pain level varies from day to day and activity to activity and how recently he died
He's scared to sleep alone
He's almost always hungry and can eat anything- roadkill, rotted/mouldy food, people, poison etc. and this is something that Jai finds incredibly entertaining to test
He hates pepper and chickpeas, something Jai continues to be bewildered by because "really? i just watched you eat a flattened crow from a ditch and you wont eat this sandwich because it has pepper on it?"
He bleaches his hair, and is actually a really good hairdresser but none of the rest of the arson gang figure that out for awhile
He is constantly exhausted and running on caffeine and willpower bc he suffers from insomnia and from the general strain of holding a second being inside of him
He falls asleep in random places when he feels safe, this leads to a lot of naps with Jai who also suffers from insomnia and an inability to leave things unfinished
He has a strong sense for good or bad people- kind of like unknowingly weighing their souls? however sometimes he does let himself get kidnapped just to keep things interesting
He wont step foot in a church, still gets that lurch of fear in his gut when he wakes up in a grave eventhough his friends only bury him a foot deep, still feels drawn to crossroads the way a ghost is drawn to the place it died
He can smell emotions, which makes him one of my favourite characters to write scenes for, along with Nancy (she's a telepath and i love describing the different way people think)
He has a really dry kind of humour
He's probably the least fashionable of all the main characters, and often forgets/doesnt care to shower bc he is depressed and so over being alive
His creature form is Big and half made of smoke and it can do all sorts of weird shit with it's body
When the magic and such becomes unstable in their town (*cough* the conflict of the story *cough*) Orli winds up having to drag a half-creature-half-human Milo out of the shops where he was just. having a field day in the meat section.
He has a raspy voice and his thoughts are "foggy dirt-tasting images [...] that felt heavier than a non-physical thing should feel" (a snippet from nancy's pov <3) and his hands shake a lot
He is covered in scars, one for every death
He doesn't like to be blindfolded, he doesn't like not being able to open his mouth and he doesn't like having metal things in his mouth, he doesnt like small, dark, spaces
Despite the fact that he looks like a strong enough breeze would tip him over, he has a dangerous kind of presence about him that makes people wary without even realising it
He helps Orli come up with an epic Plan To Woo Nancy which unfortunately just involves Orli leaving various dead animals on Seftan's porch in an attempt to show Nancy that she is a strong and capable provider. Neither Milo nor Orli quite figure out why it doesn't work. Jai thinks they're both idiots.
i could've gone deeper into his character but honestly the roots of his story are kind of heavy and i'm also too tired to write a little analysis like i might've normally so i hope just. dot points outlining my favourites bits of his character are good <3

Kisses 28 and 43 Touching
Fjord and jester and/or king
neck kisses & giving them a piggy-back ride
Fjord could swear this was heaven, a stop in Rumblecusp on the ship, running through the field with Jester on his back. Kingsley was probably off 6 different odd fruits he found in the jungle, Orly off trying to find fruits that would not do that and the rest of the crew taking a needed rest from whatever King and Jester did.
The lively green of the grass practically looked like it was glowing in the sun, as did Jester's skin, at least in Fjord's eyes. He swore her blue lit up every corner and every crevasse of the island.
She was already giggling, like herself, hoisted on him as he ran up down the hills.
He, didn't start giggling until she started pressing feather light kisses across his green neck, tickling him with her playful pecks.
"Jester you keep doing that I'm going to fall, I can only handle so much."
"Sounds like a challenge Captain Tusktooth."
