What are some cute moments that occur throughout the different acts that aren’t necessarily in the game but live in your head rent free?

Oh, this one is going to be a long answer, because there's a lot of squatters in my head and there's a lot to be unleashed. Let's start with this doodle with the boys playing lanceboard at camp and continue under the cut. Lots of cringe and brainrot incoming, so brace yourself.

Act 1:

Connie is constantly bickering with Astarion over him stealing his journal. Gale suggest to cast arcane lock on it, but Connie knows it won't stop that gremlin from reading it so why bother.

This sad pile of rugs is where I imagine Connie sleeps in Act 1. Additional Astarion line: "Damn darling, you live like this?"

During the first romance scene Connie tells Shart about his family, about how he and his brother know the city inside and out, about his parents and the tavern they run, about the trap incident. It's the most he talked to someone who wasn't his family or his crow in years. He wishes that night would never end.

Connie sends letters to his family via Faust, he stops after entering Underdark.

Act 2:

I mentioned it before that Connie is not taking the Shadow Curse very well. He misses the sun, misses the grass, he's unable to contact his family, Shart has distanced herself from him. Karlach notices it and tries to cheer him up. They end up having long talks almost every night. That's the moment their friendship evolves from just friends to besties.

When Connie finds the second warding bond ring, he wishes he could give the other one to Shadowheart, but finds the moment inappropriate. He ends up giving her the ring at the beginning of Act 3.

Act 3:

I have a lot of stuff for this act.

This is inspired by one of Jaheira's lines: "'The Cub and the Crow'- sounds like a cautionary tale. As it probably should." Connie draws her a mock up cover for a kids book. Jaheira sticks it to the traveling chest (I mostly store food there, so to me traveling chest = fridge).

Connie goes through a serious breakdown at the start of this act (after a companion is abducted), he ends up crying and saying that for the first time he doesn't believe they're going to make it, that he'll never hug his mom, never hear his brother sing again, won't be able to tell his step dad that he saw Darkmaw the Wicked. He's being comforted first by Jaheira and then by the rest of his party.

His favorite armor gets damaged one time, he's very upset about it. But the next morning he finds it magically repaired (Astarion fixed it, from the start of Act 3 they become besties).

This wip that I'm very slowly working on happens during act 3. Connie makes some flower crowns and talks about how his mom taught him to do that. I'm not going to say more, because I really want to finish that comic.

Connie has a deal with Popper that he'll pay him double for every night orchid he finds (I actually did that in game, I bantered him more money for the flower than he asked for, I love that little guy so much).

This one is more funny than cute but when Connecticut Tav was younger and still lived in Baldur's Gate he used to visit Sharess's Caress pretty regularly because it was the best way to practice drawing people. He really enjoyed talking with the workers there, he eventually convinced them that maybe creating an union isn't such a bad idea. He ended up being banned from entering the brothel because of that. So when the party approaches it to meet Voss, he's very nervous that the owner will remember him (she does). There's a dialogue in my head but it would work better with some visuals, so maybe one time I'm going to draw it.

In my head, the cottage they end up living in is Connie's old hunting hut. So after the conversation with Shadowheart about her plans for after defeating the brain, he suggest that it would be the perfect place to go. He then draws the house to show her how it looks like, tells her that it's surrounded by a forest, there's a lake nearby, a small stable that can be turned into a barn if needed, and that he's not sure about the quality of the soil, but he did grow some herbs there, so maybe it's going to be good enough to grow flowers.

At the end of the game Connie decides to stay in Baldur's Gate for a while to help his family fix their tavern (which was heavily damaged). He tells Shart to go the house I mentioned before, because he wants her to start her new life as soon as possible + because it would be better for her parents. He stealthily puts his journal in her stuff with a note attached to it saying that he finished it this morning and she can read it if she wants to. He also gives her Faust so she can write him letters whenever she wants to. After 2 tendays he arrives at the cottage with some gifts (night orchid bulbs and a pamphlet about how to take care of them, there was supposed to be another gift, but he wasn't able to find it just yet, but that's for another story).

Epilogue party (because I'm that insane):

It's been sitting in my wips for more than two months, so I don't know if I'll be able to finish it. But during the party Connie and Shadowheart take 10 minute brake to visit the place from the first romance scene. They have a very similar conversation like before, but their roles are reversed now - It's Connie asking questions about Shart's current life. "Tell me something about yourself, but no tadpoles, weird artifacts, petty goddesses. Something about you."

No, I get you 😭 it's kind of frustrating to see how often he gets mischaracterized.

#overall gojo is definitely a good person #i feel like some people just took what nanami says in 236 and ran with it #as if panels before that gojo wasnt talking about how he feels like theres no one who understands him #its shown multiple times in the series through his actions that he does genuinely care and has a good heart #mans end goal is to literally dismantle a corrupt system to better the world and future generations 😭#also the little things 🤧#like in shibuya when he realizes he cant save everyone so he aplogizes to them (in his own internal monolouge where no one would even hear #him so he literally had no reason to do it other than he did genuinely feel bad that he couldnt help them all)#or when he gets unsealed and one of the first things he does is inquire about the condition of the people who got caught in his domain :(#or when he first talks to nanami in the light novel and when nanami refers to yuji as sukunas vessel gojo corrects him #and is like hes his own person #hes yuji itadori not just a vessel 🤧🤧#but also yeah he is an asshole #hes full of himself and likes being annoying #hes self absorbed and often does things that benefit him #or chooses to do things not always solely out of the goodness of his heart but bc he thinks it will be entertaining #or he has his interest peaked #he helps the kids hes helped bc he knows they have insane potential and hes interested in seeing what that entails #but he also does it bc he thinks its wrong to take their childhood away #because hes also kind and wants to prevent things like the star plasma vessel incident #all of these can be true at the same time!!! ppl are complex!!!!#oof i rambled too much abdhankdnqkdnwkdnsjs my bad

do you ever think about the fact that everyone from the fbc was moved to the bsaa after it got closed but neil decided to join terrasave because breaking through claire's defences was probably easier than do all that work with chris

having a lot of thoughts right now at 4am about chay being ruthless

there’s a specific animorphs quote i’m thinking of:

specifically the bit: It's about seeing the bright, clear line that leads from A to B.

now, i dont think chay from season 1 is ruthless. but i very much see him as having the makings of it. chay has a very simple and direct approach to things; he sees something he wants, so he pursues it (he asks his idol for lessons their first meeting, he doesn’t let kim skip out on tutor lessons, he confesses twice because he had a homework goal and then a personal goal, he wants the truth so he confronts kim that same day, etc). and we see this theme of ‘chay has a goal, chay pursues goal’ most often with kim because they specifically foil each other in this. kim has a grand speech about making sacrifices to achieve your goals, but he’s stagnant between the world he was borne into and cant fully leave because of his brothers, vs the soft bright world he wants to be in but cant because he comes bearing blood. this directly contrasts with chay, who pursues his goals fullheartedly and recklessly

now, chay's not ruthless. not...yet. but there’s also these little...hints of a ruthlessly practical mindset to him. the most standout point for me in this regard was episode 1 when porsche is worried about his uncle. he’s sent arthee away, but he’s still planning “how do i get uncle out of trouble, and how do i maximize it?”

but chay? chay’s straight up like “uncle’s problems aren’t ours, lets just runaway to go live your dream of owning a bar on the beach”

i love this scene between porsche and chay so much. not only is really heartwarming, but i think it rly solidifies who they are as characters right off the bat. porsche is a caretaker. he takes care of everyone around him, whether he has an obligation to or not. but chay is fully ready to just leave their uncle behind. uncle interferes with brother’s and mine’s future plans? then no uncle in future plans. chay doesn’t even seem to mourn nor care that his uncle, one of his two caretakers left, is just gone from his life after ep1. like...that’s a really cold assessment for a teenager to make about one of his two living family members (that he knows of)

for me, what holds chay back from tipping into any sort of ruthless so far is mostly his naivety. not innocence (chay is not innocent yes i am still fighting on this hill), but he has certain expectations of the world that don’t necessarily match what the world is. to me, this shows most clearly when he sees warning flags (”...how do you know i have a brother?”) but is fully willing to ignore them in favor of pursuing his original goal(s) instead of taking the warning flags into account. and since he doesn’t plan for them, when some of those flags grow into actual problems, they really trip him up in ways he’s not prepared to handle. but he doesn’t have that any more at the end of season 1

if we do get a second season, i would be v curious to see where chay’s character develops. im apparently the outlier lol, but i actually really love where kim and chay ended in s1. they were on a trajectory to crash in the middle and instead they missed and landed where the other started. kim, the kid running away from the things he’s always wanted, puts himself out there with zero expectation or surety that chay will reach back. chay lingers over the video, unsure if he wants to respond to it or block it, so he throws his phone away to deal with it another time. and it’d just be really interesting to see how these two characters would react following the same trajectory the other one originally did, but coming at it with a very different background/development. and for chay specifically, i would just rly love to see how his ep1 “lets just abandon uncle to the debtors and go live our dreams on a beach” hints might come back/come into play in a mafia world setting

I just managed to accidentally open 33 leverage clips at the same time annnd now I know what I'll do if I ever need to give myself a panic attack on purpose!! fuck that felt bad!

DOCTOBER '23 ⸺ 「 24 / 31 * RECORD PLAYER 」

November 24, 1985

❝Thanks for agreeing to this, Marty. While Clara and the boys work on some of the areas of the house, I thought it best to start packing up the lab in preparation. Unless we can get a truck, moving everything over to the new laboratory I've started constructing at our home will take several trips. And, as this was as much a second home to you as it was to me, I thought it only fitting you were here for it.❞

Emmett stands in the doorway, taking an initial cursory glance over the garage-turned-laboratory-turned-permanent-home that was full to bursting with twenty-three years' worth of his life. Everything left to his name was stuffed in this garage, haphazardly tossed around in a system that must have had some sense to it, for he was always able to find what he needed.

Memories are nestled in every nook, cranny, crack, and fold of this place, and Emmett only hopes he'll have collected each and every one by the time everything is boxed and loaded.

It's bittersweet, the closing of one long chapter of his life, but one cannot start the new one without first finishing the last.

❝Yeah, of course, Doc. I gotta admit, I'm a little sad that you're not going to be living here anymore. I'm happy for you, don't get me wrong! But—I don't know, I really liked this place, you know? We had a lot of good times here. Plus, now it'll take me longer to get to your place.❞

Marty is the first one to cross the threshold and Emmett watches as he runs his fingers over the table that has held everything from their feet to Einstein's paws to schematics and coffee and late-night Burger King runs when neither of them had eaten for most of the day.

❝I understand. I've grown fond of this place over the years, and I'll be sad to see it go, but in the end, it's just a place. Our memories will still be intact.❞

❝Yeah, I guess you're right. Plus, I think this will be the first time I've ever seen this place clean.❞ Marty grins and Emmett tries to scowl, but he knows he's neglected proper care and maintenance of this place beyond what was necessary to continue his scientific endeavours.

For a home, it was incredibly poorly maintained.

❝Remember last summer we decided we'd try and clean this place up?❞ Emmett hums, surprised to find he does possess a memory like that; young Marty in old worn-down jeans, a baggy T-shirt, and himself in old shorts and one of his older Hawaiian shirts that he didn't mind ruining.

❝I do. We made it as far as...oh, right about here.❞ Emmett takes a few steps in and looks at the workbench near the wall, still covered with years' worth of clutter. ❝We started sorting through some of my things and then, as you can see, abandoned the notion quite quickly when we discovered one of my old schematics.❞

❝Your radio thing, right?❞

Emmett nods, quietly surprised once again to find another similarity between their disjointed memories. Marty proceeds deeper into the lab, wandering into a corner piled high with miscellaneous paperwork and other unidentifiable parts that had long been designated the junk pile.

❝Are we saving everything in here, Doc?❞ Marty starts gathering the assortment of papers from the top of a neglected side table to flip through them while Emmett takes a mental stock of everything he remembers being in the lab, working out the best course of action to tackle this herculean task. He finds bills, invoices, various letters and memos; nothing terribly important, but there is a worn, yellowed newspaper clipping that catches Marty's attention and he holds it up, brows pinched together.

❝Hey, wait... GE 326 Radio and Phonograph? For sale? What's this, Doc?❞ He holds up the newspaper clipping as Emmett strolls over to glance at the paper.

❝Ah, I had almost forgotten about that.❞ Emmett bends down to the side table Marty had started collecting documents off of and starts haphazardly shoving the remainder of the items piled atop it into a nearby cardboard box.

The wood is worn and scratched from years of both use and neglect, the grills have been snapped off in places, disrupting the symmetrical lattice pattern, the radio face is scratched so badly in some areas some of the broadcast frequencies are difficult to read, and one of the tuning knobs has been broken off, lost forever to time.

When he lifts the cover to reveal the phonograph tucked away inside, Marty's eyes widen.

❝Whoa! I never knew you had this! How have I never noticed this before?❞

❝Probably because it has been sitting there collecting dust for the past thirty to forty years. I originally purchased it to dismantle it for spare parts, but I found that, for a while, I quite enjoyed the phonograph function of it. It was also instrumental in my saxophone playing endeavours, though I'm afraid that's a skill I have not kept up with.❞

Marty bends over the open cover to look at the neglected record player inside. ❝I always wondered why you had that sax hanging in the garage. You never talked about it and I haven't ever seen you even pick it up in the years I've known you.❞

There's a longer silence in between Marty's comment and Emmett's response than he intended.

You can't keep going on like this, Emmett. You're even thinner than you were when you first came to me and those dark circles under your eyes are as black as the night itself. Have you been eating at all?

Emmett doesn't answer and instead trains his gaze on the pen in his hand, watching as it scrapes loudly across the page, spelling out his fate in harsh clinical lines for all the world to see.

I want you to try something. Take up an instrument, Emmett. Whichever you like, but might I recommend a wind instrument? Learn to play and I do mean practise for more than five minutes a day. It'll do you a world of good.

❝I've had no reason to play lately,❞ he says, not a lie but not the whole truth either, aiming to change the topic before he gives more away than he intended. ❝Besides, we had plenty of music in the garage with your guitar playing and the music you introduced me to.❞

Emmett doesn't believe that Marty fully accepts that answer, not with the way his expression shifts, but if he does suspect him of being not entirely truthful, he never says, and for that, he's grateful.

Marty crouches down, rifling with careless abandon through one of the other boxes on the floor. ❝So where are the rest of your records? I wanna see the kind of stuff you were listening to back then. We were so busy back in 1955 making sure that we'd be ready for the storm that there wasn't much time to look at all the stuff you had back in your mansion.❞

❝Burned up, I'm afraid. The record still in there is the only one that survived.❞

❝Charlie Parker? Really, Doc?❞

i'm back. (and i didn't commit murder, but it was close.)

#lily talks #i took some nice pictures that i'll probably post later #many creatures to be seen #but all that really needs to be said is that it was exhausting and i'm done socialising for the rest of the month #i am so tired of dealing with extroverts #there was only one bed but unfortunately instead of a friends to lovers fic this was more like strangers to enemies lmao #(not quite that bad but oof)#like my roomate was alright even if we ahd absolutely NOTHING in common but she was incapable of talking in an indoor voice #or just not saying something for longer than 2 minutes #and this one dude nearly chewed my ear off with his whining about having to walk places and do things #like you know #as is to be expected of a course like this one #food was the shit though #today i ate my weight in Kaiserschmarrn and that is the type of life i want to lead #also once again bavarians are on a whole other level #suffered a cultural shock talking to them #(why would you mix dark beer with coke and cherry liqueur??#that was probably the first time since i moved here that i felt understood by the austrians #also shout out to the woman running the inn we were staying at who saved us all by literally putting our shoes in the oven to dry #ironically the only day of this trip that my feet were dry was today when i had to put on a chest wader and get into a river up to my hips #in conclusion #i am not made for conducting research outside #(i nearly died on our hike and almost had to crawl towards the end bc it was so steep and uneven before giving up entirely)#but the perfect job for me is work where you have to pay attention to detail and can take as long as you'd like #i had to check riverbed samples for larvae and stuff today and that was the most relaxing thing i've done in ages

finished maybe my last ever spring break by going to two parties over the weekend and then monday classes immediately remind me that the last half of the semester is gonna be approximately five times as much work as the first half AND i need to start looking for jobs

#is it too late to quit #i’m 95% of the way there but will i survive and is it worth it #🥴#ANYWAY #we went to a costume party out at Books’ rich friend’s family's empty ~country estate~ and stayed out way too fucking late last night #and i underestimated how hard these people would commit to the bit #they’re mostly former and current theater geeks and dnd nerds so i should have known but oof. girl i have never felt so acutely underdresse #but there was also a treasure hunt i love a party with ACTIVITIES #and there was a very good dog #and good exploring through empty buildings. and we were far enough from the city that i actually got to see the stars #the other party was just a little tea party but it was so fun!! girl gang shit #oh also last weekend i took Books to MY friend’s party #so it was the first time some of them got to put a face to the. well the nickname. and the raunchy stories lmao #anyway anyway. i’m glad the first half of the semester was chill enough for me to spend so much time with Books and other friends #bc these next eight weeks might kill me dead lmao

Finalllllly through ch 12 of rebirth oh my god that was so much stuff fuck

#like I’m happy for the amount of stuff but jfc a lot of the harder levels in minigames and what not should have just been like new game+#I didn’t even DO everything and it still took significantly longer than any of the other chapters #also for me (or at least how I’ve been playing it) the game kinda has some problems keeping momentum and tension going #and 12 reallllly struggled with that #like there were so many plot things being set in motion directly followed by ‘oh yeah go finish off this extra stuff and new levels’#like the side quests for the most part were fine but then there would just be so much extra stuff #like the audible grown I let out when it was to the protorelic boss and instead of just a boss fight you had to refight all the summons #like I was just happy to get through with it and fight this guy for the thrid time but then it was so much extra #those dual summon fights were cool tho but also EVIL #but also could have just been a after you beat the story combat trial #don’t get me wrong I love it but also I am so happy to be in the endgame and more plot heavy stuff tho #oof this turned ranty sorry #rant #ff7 #ff7 rebirth

// for heysel, i've associated her with blue and red mana, which when combined are known as izzet after the guild from the plane of ravnica. blue is the mana most affiliated with the mind, and when combined with red's passion results in the seeking of knowledge not for the desire to merely improve but to satiate curiosity and wonder; yet there are always more curiosities, more wonders, and thus izzet never tires in its desire to constantly discover. however, after seeing elden ring heysel in action more and more, i've reevaluated my understanding of her and added another mana: umbra. umbra's addition changes us from izzet to grixis, with the dominant color of the trio being umbra. with umbra, we redefine that previous endless satiation of curiosity by what umbra wants-- namely, what concerns yourself and what you can get out of your own existence. grixis takes the passion of red, the pursuit for understanding of blue, and the fixation of the self from umbra, and weaves them all into a mana combination that will never be dictated by the so called "natural order"; it will bite above the proverbial food chain, it will consume without consideration for civility or law, and it will corrupt and subvert whatever it feels it needs to... something i've seen many a time with a certain yellow clad lady. in application, grixis can revel in the cruelty that magic can inflict, not necessarily for pain's sake alone but in observing every aspect of humanity and stretching it as far as it can go, and ultimately, grixis represents an ambition that can be controlled but never sated. while often percieved as a darkly destructive combination, grixis is just as capable of creating wonders as any other, even if no one save the one who created them can appreciate them.

for bernita, however... hmm. her association with blue is clear, as the mana encompasses not just the mind but similarly prophecy and visions which due to her status as an oracle for her gods feel quite fitting. however... green. yes, green i believe suits her well in a way i don't necessarily think is apparent at first glance. as the color most resistant to change, green is naturally in opposition to blue which seeks to innovate itself even in small ways-- something that even bernita herself may not recognize, but her gods do in their unknowable ways. there is a natural order to green that is typically at odds with the facilitated change inherent to blue, but when combined into simic the argument of what is natural compared to nurtured becomes irrelevant; the traits you began with and the environment your originated from were simply the first step. bernita may see herself as a static being of inherent flaws, yet she continues to grow with the changes given by her gods (born of a natural order that is ever becoming more natural to her), and so long as she desires to be more then she will continue to become so... even if she does not, can not, recognize it yet.
