Background context

First of all: a concession. I know every Voldemort-related passage in Harry Potter like the back of my hand. If you don’t think Bellamort can be found in the subtext, you’re either biased or due for another close reading. Unlike Tomione (which almost always depends on a complete fabrication of their personalities) and Tomarry (which requires a significant tone shift from the books), you can easily write Bellamort as an extension of canon. 

I don’t hate Bellamort because it’s nonsense. I hate it because it is not nonsense; it feels very real. Voldemort’s and Bellatrix’s relationship, in the canon text, is that of Master and Servant—and for me personally, any such dynamic between a man and a woman is disgusting and I have absolutely no desire to read it.

Here's some specific icks it gives me.

Fanon Bellatrix is bullshit; her real form is repulsive, whiny, and pitiful

There’s this common fanon misconstruction of Bellatrix that portrays her as a thoughtful femme fatale who enjoys a close, intimate relationship to Voldemort on nearly equal terms. I find this tacky at best.

Really, Bellatrix is a pathetic, sniveling wimp who would crawl around on her hands and knees and bark like a dog if Voldemort asked her to do so. She’s not strong; she’s weak-willed and pathetic. She's the kind of pathetic woman who accompanies a man on his killing spree and kills her own kids for said man’s affection.

This passage from Order of the Phoenix pretty concisely captures their dynamic.

Also, Tomarrymort writers love to make her past love of Voldemort and (*pukes*) it makes my tummy ache

Ever find yourself reading a fascinating Tomarry fic only for—midway in—Voldemort to reveal his true love is Bellatrix?* Or wax poetic about how beautiful she is, how special to him she is?

It's 2024. I immediately close the fic when this happens. If I’m reading a Tomarrymort fic, I don’t give a fuck about Voldemort’s past domestic abuse trysts with the most spineless woman in the entire HP series.

And the kicker is . . . for what? Because Bellatrix proved herself to Voldemort by licking his boot and wiping his asshole? Please do not try and convince me she is a sinister spooky gal, she plainly isn’t. She’s an embarrassing blithering pissant who does not foil any of Voldemort’s traits.  

And PLEASE do not try and convince me she offers Voldemort something Harry doesn't in terms of being an equal partner or someone he respects, because I cannot fathom how the woman who squeals "MASTER MASTER PLEASE I'M SORRY DON'T HURT ME - I'll wash your anus with my tongue, PLEASE master!" is somehow more respectable than brave, upright, dignified Harry.

*I’m NOT referring to a specific fic. I have been in this fandom since 2011, and I have read it dozens of times, on FF and AO3 alike.

Lastly - they're not a pretty picture

I'm just going to say it... you know those people you kinda knew in high school who now post about their kinky sex life on Facebook? The girl who posts "Daddy 🥺 ?" and the dude responds "Yes, kitten?" in the comments? The chick who has no shame in posting her wolf-tail butt plug or joining a bunch of kinkster groups?

The girl who later ends up getting the shit beaten out of her by said repulsive scrote (no shock) and posting about it on Facebook only to repeat the cycle again and again?

That's literally what Bellamort makes me think about. It's not even like it's deeply upsetting so much as it's disappointing: A reminder of the lowest very promising, very beautiful women can get for men who ought to be curb-stomped and thrown in a ditch.

Tbh the best ending for Bellatrix in canon would've been if she disemboweled and slaughtered Voldemort for ruining her fucking life with his ridiculous tacky cult. He's my baby, but he's a vile scrote first, and I wish Bellatrix had realized what a toxic, life-draining narcissistic psychopathic moron he was. But alas, she too was a pathetic worm.

and on our agenda is JonJay. How many times have I told myself not to go under comments on Tumblr, but this time misfortune took me by surprise. It was about Bernard, I decided to go into the comments, which was my main mistake. The author of the post wrote that Jay is worse than Bernard, since he can control the minds of other people (I don’t remember this at all, I know about his ability to pass through walls and any solid objects) and how Jon can meet with him. God, there was no explanation, but if this person meant that Jay forced Jon to fall in love with him by penetrating his mind, then I'm leaving this planet. How blind do you have to be when you read a comic book so as not to read that Jon agreed to help Jay himself, since people needed help. And he didn’t fall in love with him right away either, rather after Jay met the superfamily, like, yes. I’m still It's still killing me that people think Jay is the worst option for Jon, although if you ask my opinion, they couldn't find each other better. Jay literally exposed himself for the sake of Jon, what else do they need for them to believe in his sincerity. By the way, they don’t have any thoughts about the setup from Nicky to Damian. Sorry, but it still really annoys me, like ,how so. I'm still wondering why people love Bernad and Nika more than Jay. Maybe you have an answer, I don't know. None of the Jay haters have actually read SOKE. The 'mind control' rumors started spreading and becaus basically 70% of tumblr DC fans haven't actually touched more than 3 issues of the comic books and out of context panels in their lives, they don't know that Jay's NEVER 'seduced' Jon. Which is, by the way, a classic offensive stereotype assigned to Asian characters; that Asian characters, especially ones who are into men are all seducers. This is primarily applied to women but now its being applied with Jay.

It's funny because Jon WAS affected to be attracted by an actual telepathic character; Imra, aka Saturn Girl.

And this is where the biphobia comes in because Saturn Girl dated Jon, it was a disaster fire relationship in a book that mischaracterized both of them.It's implied that Imra accidentally used her powers to make Jon be into her, but NO ONE talks about it because it's a seemingly heterosexual relationship. Also she's a white blond girl. It's far easier to target the sparse Asian rep we get.

Nika and Bernard also don't get as much hate because of this reason. People can talk around it all they want, but they are more loved and accepted because they are white. If either of them were POC, they'd be getting the same treatment.

The DamiJon shippers for some reason got it into their heads that Damian x Jon is going to be a thing and now they're mad that they're headcanons aren't real. Like I can't even be kind about this because these assholes have been nothing but racist, clogging up Jon's tag by not tagging anything right, and have also attacked actual content creators to the point they've had to respond to them to tell them to STOP.

Nothing will get these people to like Jay, because they don't actually care about comics, storytelling, the messages these stories bring, the characters, or anything really. They just care that their headcanon vision of Jon's gone and it isn;t easy to project their "sunshine baby" tropes on Jon anymore since now he's actually got adventures of his own outside of Damian. And those adventures happen to be with his boyfriend Jay.

User real-girl replied to this post saying "Why even come here with this?" I can tell you why. They can't think for themselves, so they assume we can't either. You read my mind! I just responded in another post asking if anon is saying the same things on Jared-hating blogs. I doubt it. And I don't send asks to Jared-hating blogs (or more recently, Gen-hating blogs that have gone off the deep end,) I stay in my lane and don't engage people that I know won't agree with me. I saw your tags from the post a while ago about how the small details in totk Make up for the main story, and while I agree, I gotta say that the things some people say about the story being bare bones or whatever (and BOTW’s story to that extent) just…doesn’t make sense to me. Because I think the problem is with the execution rather than the writing. Like, BOTW was even more bare bones,because it was just a bunch of exposition. Not to say the story wasn’t good because it absolutely is, but it was minimal, imo. Anyway I said all that to say that I personally do think that totk has the better story, but the execution is worse and I think the open world format hurts it. And I think if people could look past that they could see how good it is. But of course that’s all just me. Neither game’s story is particularly great but I love them both. Anyway I did not intend for this to get so long but what do you think about that? I’m just curious 🙂

Yeah, I can definitely agree that the open world aspect hurts the story of Tears. I was thinking about this earlier, and I think Breath of the Wild's story worked because it is so barebones. The developers were able to develop the story around the gameplay, which has always been Nintendo's adjective for both of these games (and probably all of their games, though I am not too much on an expert on that in all honesty) first and foremost. And it worked, for the most part.

I do believe there can be no "perfect" Zelda game, and especially not one that can appease all Zelda fans (even the games that everyone praises to be perfect has their haters, though I guess hate is too strong of a word). I think the main downfall of Tears of the Kingdom was that it couldn't live up to fan's expectations and wants for the Zelda franchise. Tears of the Kingdom was always meant to be BotW+, since the developers had so many ideas for Breath of the Wild they had to make a second game in order to fit all of those ideas, which led to them repeating the same gameplay mechanics as Breath of the Wild.

Don't get me wrong, TotK's gameplay is good since it what made Breath of the Wild good as well, but because it's exactly like Breath of the Wild is what made it sour in the minds of players. I guess for the players who played other kinds of games in between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom allowing them time to do something else, it isn't so bad. But for the players who play nothing but Zelda games or who were late into getting into the Zelda franchise (such as myself) it can be a little... repetitive (and I'm mainly talking about the quests, shrines, and the same mechanic of unlocking a terminal in a dungeon found in both botw and totk). Hence why I was so drawn all to the other world discoveries not unlocked by doing a side quest, which I think is the greatest improvement TotK brought imo.

In terms of TotK's story... I don't hate it exactly, but I will say I will prefer BotW's better. I still kind of need to analyze the story of TotK fully for myself to draw any real conclusions for me; my biggest problem is how it completely erases BotW's story from it's story. Sure, half a dozen years has passed in between games (both in-game and irl) but surely the impact of defeating the Calamity would've left something... bigger. Like, wouldn't word have gone around that Link was the one to have defeated the darkness looming the castle? They could've at least acknowledged him directly instead of pulling a Tony Hawk and saying "oh you have the same name as that guy who defeated that evil some time ago". I will give them the benefit of the doubt, but then again everyone knows Zelda and he has never her side so, ???. Sorry, didn't mean to rant there. It was kind of a frustration I felt along with many others while playing the game. Main story-wise I don't have any real issues other than you're seriously telling me that there was another ancient civilization before the previous civilization that had even more ancient technology? It kind of pushes my suspension of disbelief (and once again repeating things from BotW).

You do make a lot of good points that I agree with, but I think it boils down to personal preference over which game is better due to how similar the games are, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on opinion.

I didn’t even consider that you get anon hate tbh since you never really respond to it. But like. I think I know the exact brand of people sending you hate. A lot of newer internet kids have been conditioned into thinking you need a moral reason to dislike something, as opposed to just disliking it for personal taste. In the past, I used to have a beef with antis/dudebros who crititized bkdks and bakugo character. But after I followed that 'bkdk brainrot account', I started to understand what the antis/dudebros hate about bkdks/bakugo, which is why I followed your account despite of me still loving reading bkdk fanfics where bakugo is portayed as perfect boyfriend to Izuku BUT that's where I separate which one is fanon and which one is canon. Yes, I and some bkdks are often being delusional in discord and mhatwt when we talk about bkdk but it irritated me when that 'bkdk brainrot account' badmouthed izuocha shippers and said in one of her qrt how izuocha endgame would be boring and cliché just because they're boy & girl (it's a coincide that one of the previous anon also said it). And when some of my bkdk mutuals replied politely to some of her tweets that they disagree with her bkdk posts, she became rude, screenshoting and telling her followers for support. That's when I realize she's a toxic bkdk who forces everyone to agree with her opinions :/ I am glad that many of my mutuals have unfollowed and blocked her as well. It's about time she got recognized not only as toxic bkdk but as a hater. I won't harrass her but I am glad if she got ratioed specifically by bkdks. Maybe that way she'll learn because if only non shippers who argue with her, she'll have excuse that the one who hate her are anti bkdk and dudebros.

At the end of the day, an opinion on a ship is just that, an opinion. I know I bash BkDk a lot, but if you ship it, it doesn’t matter to me. You do you and enjoy your ship. My issue comes with problematic Stans like Dekkachann who make the ship their whole personality and attack those who don’t like the ship. Interacting with fans of Katsuki have made me realize that the character had a lot of potential and I can see why people like him despite me not liking him.

At the end of the day, people like Dekkachann do not define a fandom, hence why I always make sure to differentiate between Stans and fans. Unfortunately they do cause conflict, not just for those with a different opinion, but those with similar views. Like you said, fellow BkDks tried replying to her only to get bashed and harassed. However, sometimes, the fans attempt to do the defusing themselves which only leads to a worse disaster. That’s the case for Corpse whose fans were quick to jump to his protection of some ‘false’ rumors.

Corpse cracks his knuckles, then his shoulders, then his collarbone, then the his neck. He clenches his jaw as he breathes steadily and rhythmically, trying to control an overwhelming wave of anger that he has never felt before. This is a situation he’s never had to deal with nor did he ever think he’d have to deal with and address on a fucking livestream on top of all, but here he is now, doing his best to count to ten and not go on a Twitter responding spree, calling people out on their bullshit. He wanted to do so, he still wants to, but he was stopped in his intentions and brought to a calm mindset where he was swayed into dealing with this the civil way and not by roasting the fuck out of any and every foul-mouthed person he’s seen on his Twitter timeline.

He can’t really guarantee and civility during the stream either, he’s aware his tolerance is as thin as a stretched out, old rubber band and is a slight tug away from snapping and allowing him to unleash hell on these people because of who he’s been seeing red these past few days. 

Let’s not risk a misunderstanding here - Corpse absolutely loves and adores his fans, but seeing this behavior from them is quite upsetting and disappointing. When he uses the terms like ‘assholes’, ‘jerks’ and ‘rude motherfuckers’ he isn’t referring to them. He knows they are good people, but are using the completely wrong tactic of defending him, not to mention he doesn’t even need defending. Even if he did, he’s more than capable of doing it on his own and not getting other people involved.

If there’s any indicator of the serious nature of this stream, it’s probably the lack of lo-fi and the lack of even attempted playfulness and cheeriness in his voice. It’s meant to knock some sense in the people who have been spreading hate for a specific person on all social media platforms she’s active on.“

The majority of the viewers are already familiar with the subject, some even guilty of spreading the hate Corpse mentioned, but there are a few that are completely clueless - the ones actually not interested in online drama, not just saying they ‘hate drama’. With those people in mind, Corpse takes to addressing the issue from its very beginning.

“So, for a month now, me and this streamer, who’s also a TikTok star, by the name of Y/N have been interacting a lot on social media. She’s an incredibly sweet girl that a lot of people have prejudice towards. She’s very misjudged and misunderstood because people see he solely as her content, if that makes sense. They only know she’s that streamer who wears revealing clothes on her streams and posts risqué pictures on her Instagram. Like, no.“ Corpse cannot even fully believe he has to address this and that slut-shaming people is still a thing in the twenty-first century. He closes his eyes for a moment, fist tightening and his knuckles turning white, “I don’t understand how so many people can be so shallow and just plain jerks towards her in general, but then again - this is especially for my fans, the members of my fandom - I don’t understand the need you guys feel to put Y/N down to defend me from some ridiculous rumors as if it’s the first time I’ve had to deal with people talking shit for attention or to get someone canceled.“ He sighs, reminding himself to slow his roll as to not confuse any viewers who still don’t know the full story, “Anyway, back to the timeline of events. So, considering we’ve never interacted before, all the replying to comments, retweeting, liking posts and whatever sparked some dating rumors. Isn’t that just fucking hilarious - you see two people interacting on social media and the first thing that comes to mind is that they’re in a romantic relationship. Where did the friendship go? Does no one value or consider friendships to be a valid type of human relation anymore?“ He runs a hand through his hair, making another pause to clear his mind and prevent his frustration from overflowing. He promised he wouldn’t lose his cool and would remain calm and collected, but the more he talks about it the tighter he clenches his fist and the faster his heartrate is. His neck and ears are red from the tension he feels all over, almost like he’s physically restraining a raging wild animal and not just his own thoughts and emotions.

There’s layers to his anger, the lower ones - aka the ones he’s yet to get to - will be a nightmarish test of his self-control, he already knows it. Judging by how much of a toll this rant has already taken on him, his patience and control growing thinner and thinner, he’s not sure how he’ll power through the last layers without his voice raising awfully high in volume and his fists searching for some object to punch. To an ignorant eye, his reaction would seem exaggerated and overboard, but little does that ignorant eye know...

“When some of my fans saw those rumors, they reacted very badly. It was quite disappointing to see. Guys, I appreciate you standing up for me even though you shouldn’t do that - I can defend myself, not that this was a matter I needed defending from to begin with. But just the way some of you went about it was horrifically wrong and quite upsetting, to me but especially to Y/N herself.“ He can feel it, the aggravation growing, bubbling up in his chest, “What I saw disgusted me, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it. The things some of you were saying...I couldn’t believe you are in fact the same people who are my fans, my lovely fans who I’ve always thought so highly of. Never did I think you could be able of slut-shaming so vulgarly and grossly, I couldn’t believe what I was reading.“

He has every right to be upset - the things being said about Y/N were truly awful and a lot of things being said were meant to defend Corpse and defuse the rumors, doing so while stomping all over Y/N and her content. Rightfully so, many of her fans were outraged and quick to jump to her defense but were unfortunately outnumbered, leading Corpse to believe not many of her fans are actually real or as dedicated as his which only fueled his fury further.

Anyway, let’s take a look at Y/N’s point of view. Being a content creator for as long as she has, refusing to change her style no matter how many people disagreed and insulted her about it, she’s grown quite used to people spitting insults at her on every social media possible. It’s sad how throughout the majority of her content creating career she’s only had haters, creeps and fake fans watching her videos and streams. Rare are those in her fandom who’d actually stick up for her and defend her in ‘scandals’ such as this one. However, no amount of experience with dealing with hate could have prepared her for this outpour of some of the meanest shit she’s ever heard and been called in her life.

Y/N likes the content she makes, she’s comfortable in her skin and loves her body. She loves showing it off too and nor she nor anyone who wants that deserves to be shamed for who they are and what they do, especially when they aren’t hurting anyone and their content is still appropriate. People have always bashed her for all elements of who she is: her appearance, her clothing style, her streams, her gaming skills, her voice on occasion. She can count the instances when she’s received positive feedback on the fingers of her hands which would depress anyone else but not her. She’s always created content for her own amusement and entertainment so people’s opinions never really bothered her. Until now, until this very drama that has hit a specific nerve, an insecurity of hers she’s never talked about. The comments such as:

bothered her far more than she’d like to admit. She has no one to open up about it either, she knows what she’ll get in response if she does - she’ll be told it’s her fault. Her fault because of the way she dresses, the way she talks and acts, because she chose this career to begin with. All her fault. The only person she can turn to she refuses to because she doesn’t want to be a bother - not after so many people confirmed her worries that she’s not good enough for him already anyway, the least she can do is avoid bothering him the best she can.

And that is exactly why this has upset Corpse so much.

What are your thoughts on the Charithra issue?

Sorry this is late anons I got sleepy halfway through and wasn't typing coherently and went down for a nap first to recharge. I AM PISSED TO WAKE UP AND FIND OUT SHE DEACTIVATED.

Moving to answering these I got another ask about this so I'll answer these two together. (will put the screenshot of the second anon below when answering that qn)

Note: that this is the last time I am going to talk about this cos everything that needs to be said has been said and she has officially deactivated so now we should all chill out with our over the top opinions and just focus on positive fandom content please.

Sorry to the first anon but why was that phrased like a Presidential Debate question? 😂 Yall this is just fandom drama and toxicity not a national issue.

That being said, my heart breaks for her, it should have NEVER gotten to a point where she felt like the negativity was weighing on her so much she had to block out everyone to create a safe space for herself. And before everyone brings their arguments to my ask box, let me counter all the ones I've seen my friends and other fellow bloggers deal with:

1) "I didn't even say anything to her or send hate, why did she block me?!"

Someone mentioned that she might have used a mass blocker and I looked up what it is and basically you can read more in depth about it here. From my understanding its an AI that helps you block people using keywords so I imagine Charithra put in a couple of keywords and it somehow got linked to all the accounts that interacted with the 'hate'/critical tweets and thus blocking all of them. TDLR: Shitty AI probably blocked you for her by accident.

2) "She needs to grow thicker skin for this industry."

You can have a thick skin as an actor and still hit your limit. Why does everyone expect WOC to always expect to sit back, be strong and just take it? I'm kind of sick of this perception of us to be honest. "Ohmygod you're so strong!" Like yes but we can also be soft and have feelings like all human beings. We are all multifaceted people too. Also consider that it wasn't just the posters but comments from since the EW article dropped that have just been piling up and directed at her til now and I think she just hit a point where she couldn't take it anymore.

3) "She's being immature and unprofessional"

Let me ask those anons and people who feel this way, are you her boss? Are you her parent/friend/loved one? No, right? So she doesn't owe any of us shit! She is not being immature or unprofessional - again like I said those who haven't done anything wrong, it was probably a mistake by the AI - but the initial choice itself to block the haters WAS NOT immature or unprofessional of her. She has every right to curate what she wants to see on her feed.

4) "She should have just taken a breather from Twitter instead of going ham on the block button!"

I wasn't even going to dignify this with a counter but given that she had deactivated, yall happy? Sis took a permanent breather. As she should after what she dealt with since the EW press drop - I can't believe she was getting hate for that - twitter people can be SO VILE.

So those were my main thoughts on the matter. As for this second anon, thank you for your ask and to respond to it:

I want to make it clear that I do NOT blame anyone for how are they are feeling. I do not blame Charithra at all for feeling upset and negative over the posters reactions and comments coming to a head. I do not blame the fans for feeling upset about being blocked. However I do side eye the upset fans for blowing this out proportion. Yes, its frustrating not knowing why you were blocked but she immediately realised what happened and she started unblocking people and apologised (there was another thread like this where she explicitly unblocked and apologised but the tweets have been deleted with her acc and no one got a screenshot of that interaction I don't think.)

She was so sweet about it too - I don't understand why everyone started freaking out about this. We should have left it be after Charithra cleared it up with the fans and let it be instead of screaming that she blocked you.

Side-eyeing aside, the full blame falls squarely on marketing and CVD's shoulders. A lot of people have been letting CVD off the hook about marketing because they say he's not involved - then how do yall think the marketing team knows what to promote?? It's all based on his storylines and character priorities this season!

@ People who know more about advertising and marketing correct me if I'm wrong but don't creators usually sit with marketing for an initial meeting to cover the basics of what they are promoting, who they are promoting and how they are promoting it? I'm not saying he orchestrated every little thing but mans definitely had some influence over it.

And you're right anon none of this is helping Charithra at all and I hate it so much because this was my biggest fear with a love traingle that the toxic side of the fandom would pit the sisters against each other but it's so much worse cos it's mainly directed at Charithra - the actress herself instead of the character (not saying either is good but directly going afted Charithra is messed up)

I'm feeling happy today, so I decided to send a pronoun validation ask to Shai, the creator of my favourite neopronoun blog! Ya does great pronoun puns, and I aespire to be as good at making pronoun puns as div- ter pronoun puns are really incredible. Ae often makes pronoun puns with ae/aer, but I wonder if jae could do them with all of vir pronoun sets. Honestly, won definitely could if pro set ars mind to it!

Chai has a ton of pronouns, and I'm trying to fit all of them in this ask, which is pretty difficult, but I do hope I get all fakers pronouns in. I also hope that quee likes this, and I don't forget any of rors pronouns. It would be super annoying if that happened!

Ob also does a thing where ri adds more pronouns to pendos collection whenever thon gets hate, which is honestly a power move, and makes hyr very very awesome. It also makes pronouns based on Judaism by shalomself, which is also really cool, and I hope bu has a good time coining those pronouns. Fi calls them jewnouns, which is another one of theis excellent puns!

I'm almost running out of things to say, but ir still has a lot of pronouns, so I must soldier on! I’ve been getting plenty of messages questioning my absence from his blog and my frequent leaves from my CC, I think this is a good time to bring this up. 

I receive these sort of messages on a regular basis. Which means I have to screen through and delete them on a regular basis. CC has filters, but sometimes they don’t work, and sometimes the regular messages don’t come through, and instead these do. By the way, this is only one of the many hate messages from haters camping in my cc and blog. How do I know? They only send in messages when I’m actively responding, and is silent when I spend days away from my cc. 

Usually you won’t see them, because I choose to delete them for the comfort of Taejinnies who come here for a peace of mind, and also giving haters attention means they’ll keep coming with more. But I think I should address this now anyway. 

Thankfully, this does not affect me the way this anon wishes to - which is probably to make me feel mentally unwell, drive me away from my blog and cc, and ultimately close down. None of which I will be doing. Or maybe they even send these in thoughtlessly and is eagerly snickering behind their screens seeing me finally “respond” to them. I’m guessing the one who sends these in are the same few people, most likely children, someone with stunted maturity, or perhaps someone who needs help themselves. 

After addressing this, I will be going on with my usual agenda. I go on my cc to interact or fangirl with other Taejinnies, but having to screen through and delete messages all the time, and this is not including spam and messages from other shippers is actually really exhausting.

Not to mention the number of people who finds my cc link from word of mouth without knowing about my blog and why/how my cc exists in the first place means I have to respond to ‘basic’ questions constantly - which is why I created the FAQ post. 

I will still be responding to messages as best as I can, but do understand that I face some challenges in doing so. 

Moving on, I’m really absent from this blog for a few reasons: 

1. I have other growing responsibilities and activities taking up more of my time. 

2. I have a made a few reliable army friends whom I chat regularly with. My blog is mainly a ranting space about Taejin, so I rely on my tumblr less to express my thoughts about them. I will of course leave this blog open since many Taejinnies have told me that this blog was of help to them when they felt confused. 

3. I have been informed of a Taejin youtube channel who does timelines in video format here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJrcFVn4G7lxJ2TIAMzTzVg

I think their videos are good and resourceful. 

4. Besides the timeline posts which are kind of in progress, I don’t feel the need to “analyze” or scrutinize Taejin’s interactions anymore. This is because I am no longer confused or is doubtful about the nature of their bond. Unless a definitive incident happens where their dynamics change or is indicative of any sort of conflict, I will most likely not making anymore analysis or speculations.  

5. If something like Dynamite or BE comeback vlive happens again or if I feel hyped enough to make a post, I probably will. 

Lastly, thank you to those who dropped me messages of concern, I really appreciate it. I still love Taejin very much and enjoy watching them and I will most definitely still be around for BTS. 

Hi Sam, I hope you’re safe and well! I’m sorry to hear you’re not going home for the holidays but I hope you have a pleasant end of year anyway! I’ve got a question and I was hoping you could share some advice, because I reckon you’ve seen this shit before. If you’re not doing advice anymore sorry, please ignore this! No stress!

I’ve been a writer in fandom for a pretty damn long time. I’m nowhere near as prolific as you but I think I’ve got people who subscribe to me and read most of my fics, and honestly I’m happy in my little corner - I love the company 💕

Recently (since November last year), I’ve been receiving a bunch of anon hate on ao3. I’ve reported it to the staff and they’ve done an incredible job of responding - like I’m so impressed??? - but I think there are either multiple anons or they’re using sock puppets, so it keeps happening. In January it freaked me out so badly that I almost entirely stopped writing in that fandom. I recently restarted and the anon hate has started up again.

I’ve got plenty of good friends in fandom who have reassured me that I’m not wasting people’s time with my fics and that they do want me around, but I’m sorta distressed about the whole thing.

Do you have any advice on what I could do to deal with it?

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that, Anon! It sucks that people are using your hobby to demean and attack you. 

(FTR I’m not doing advice anymore BUT I’ll make an exception, because I think this is an issue a lot of people deal with.) 

It’s good that you’re reporting it to staff and that they’re being responsive and helping you, but unfortunately when someone or a group of someones are being that persistent, much as with the majority of online toxicity, the only real way to stop it is to deplatform. 

You have a couple of options. If your main concern is the abuse being public, you can set your comments to moderated; I know a lot of people who do this because they don’t really care about the opinions of the sockpuppet haters, but they don’t like to give them a place to air their grievances publicly or model bad behavior for other fans. This way, people without AO3 accounts can still comment and those comments can still be made public, but the hate can be deleted before it ever makes it to your page. This is pretty satisfying too because then it becomes anons shouting into a void while you go on with your life apparently oblivious to their behavior. 

However, if you are struggling emotionally with the abuse -- and that’s a perfectly legitimate reaction, people are being cruel and even if they’re assholes that can still hurt -- then you can turn off anon commenting entirely. When you do that, it does prevent anyone without an AO3 account from commenting, but it ensures that if someone wants to be a shitheel, they’ve got to either do it under their own name or take the time to set up an anonymous email address, request an AO3 invite, set up an AO3 account, and THEN go abuse you and immediately get banned, which most haters won’t bother with. 

It sucks to wall off an entire portion of fandom who haven’t got AO3 accounts because of a few haters, but if it preserves your mental health I think it’s worth losing a few positive comments at the expense of a lot of negative ones, and anons can still leave kudos at least. 

Anyway, I’m glad you have the support of AO3 and of your friends -- listen to them, and deplatform the haters. :D Good luck!

Why did you feel the need to preface your statement about not suicide-baiting children with "sometimes I hate children, but-"

On this specific context, because we have been talking about a video that made a huge fucking deal about pro shippers "hating children" (aka, expressing their valid frustration about the way kids feel like they can cross any boundaries with adults) like it was a bad thing and to respond "oh but we don't hate children1!!! We LOVE children, we just don't want to share porn with them" is also counterproductive, since that is a feeling people do have and that means fuck all about how they would actually behave around children or about children. It also reduces all our valid grievances to pseudo boomers who can't stand the youth instead of people who see there is something wrong in the way kids are behaving and being encouraged to behave online. I am one of those "child haters" or whatever Sarah and fuckers like her would call me, but that means fuck all because I am not the one enabling abuse that targets children, makes them suicidal and traumatized at the possibility of being pedophiles just because they like a fucking cartoon character. My feelings about children matter shit, wether I hate them, love them or are 100% indifferent to them. What matters is that we have a fandom culture right now that makes it incredibly unsafe for kid, especially marginalized kids to grow up in and is horrible. But instead of talking about that, anon, we are talking about how I feel about children themselves. So, TL;DR: I am very petty and also trying to make a point. Fuck if I doing it right, but I am still petty anyway.

Hi bestie , I need an older persons advice , I have been receiving hate anon's on both of my blogs and idk what to do I replied to only one but it's just annoying especially since they are anon and I can't block those people.

First and foremost, do not respond to the hate texts under any circumstances. People who spread anonymous hate are wimpy little cowards who want to irritate you and elicit a reaction from you; thus, don't give them what they want. Trust me when I say that this irritates them a lot

After that, you'll need to block them. Before you do this, keep in mind that blocking someone will destroy their messages from your inbox; if you need to maintain a record of the messages for any reason, take a screenshot before hitting the "block" button.

When you block an anon, you're actually blocking their IP address. Anons with tenacity sometimes use proxy servers to get around the IP ban (this has happened to me on several occasions). Just keep stopping them, and they'll ultimately get tired of it.

Despite the fact that you can IP block those who send anonymous hate, you can't actually report them to Tumblr. Haters who don't use anon can only be reported (ie, no one)

I would also suggest to just turn off your anon for a few days. It will give you a piece of mind for a while. And please try not to let it affect you; these people have no idea what they're talking about, you're a great and awesome person who doesn't deserve to be hated in the least.

Also, keep in mind that you don't have to put up with this. Life is terrifying, dark, and bad enough as it is, and you don't need any additional negativity in your life. So fuck it, have a great time here, desiblr loves you nonetheless.

I honestly still don't know how to respond to most of this, but I'll give it a shot.

How'd I git gud?

Well, that's sort of subjective, innit? I don't think I'm particularly good, nor do I think I'm particularly bad. I think in terms of prose I'm pretty mediocre, as I've read writing (in books and on tumblr) that's both a lot more competent and evocative than my own, but I've also read some absolute garbage that made my eyes turn inside out. I usually strive for simplicity when I write and try to keep my prose as "invisible" as I can, so I can usually skate by on mediocrity and nobody notices and that's sort of the point.

I think the main thing that has given me a certain amount of skill in writing is that I've been going at it for a very long time, since I was like 9-10. And I've been reading for even longer. Both of those will help you not necessarily develop your writing (I started writing exclusively in English relatively recently, but I've been reading and writing in Swedish for ages before then and I learned how to read in Russian as a kid), but reading in particular will help you develop your storytelling and give you a sense of what you want and don't want to accomplish in your own work. It basically gives you a mental library of stories, plots, character archetypes etc.

I honestly think that's more important to know what you want and what you dislike when you craft your own story than it is to have a technical prowess. Because once you have that goal in mind, it's a lot easier to develop the necessary skills to reach it.

However, my passion lies in storytelling more than the art of writing itself, so your mileage may vary and you might not share that goal at all. I don't have any tips on developing your prose since that's never been my own goal, but I think reading a lot and figuring out what writing styles you do and don't like will help tremendously here as well.

How do I do characters and concepts?

It's honestly the same thing here as the previous question, over time you develop a sense of what you like and dislike and that ends up reflected in the stories and people you create. If you line up all my characters side-by-side, you'll see that they're all quite similar, and that there are some archetypes that I don't touch and some that I come back to constantly.

(A lot of this also depends on how I present these characters and concepts on my blog. Everything seems a bit more exciting and fun when it's short and sweet and there's a bit of mystery and sense of hype behind it. Nobody really knows how the story is turning out and whether my posts about it are accurate to what's actually on the page.)

What I usually do is that I have a role in mind for a character, like, who are they in the story? Then, depending on their importance (protagonist and love interest/deuteragonist get the highest priority since I'm a romance-heavy writer), I start to figure out their motivation, what they want vs. what they need is my main base and most important part of any main character I make, then why they want something and why they need something else. What has made them want this thing, and what stops them from realizing they need something different?

An important thing for me is internal consistency. I want to always know why a character acts the way they do, what underlying explanation or motivation they have for being what they are. There should be a base, a red threat of characterization that makes them true to the reader.That's not "realistic," but this is fiction. People are complicated, but characters should be simple. IMO you reach complexity through simplicity. Break your OCs down to their base levels and then start building from there, while always keeping in mind how you got here. Does that make sense?

As for concepts, I'm personally inspired by things I dislike more than things I like. I find something I think I can fix, something I can do better, and I smugly get to work. It's a weird confidence-booster, like "if this got published, my take on this will blow people's dicks off." It's ... not for everyone, but like, whatever motivator gets you going is good enough tbh. Art comes in many shapes and from many sources. Some write from love, some from pain, some from catharsis. I write mainly from spite, but I also enjoy power fantasies, so my stories often end up as subversions or different takes on familiar tropes with powerful protags at the lead.

I’m really glad my shitty little collection of nonsense helps you in some way, and I appreciate your support! As for the hate, it’s difficult to know when it’s someone critiquing me in good faith and when it’s genuine malice, but I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. Given the way I present myself online, it’d be hypocritical to shut down any responses I get as hate. I’m often inflammatory and unpleasant and people don’t like that and it’s fine.

I've seen so much Red hate post-finale I'm honestly shaken... not even by what people say but by the fact that the writers – Bokenkamp, I assume, in his last act of some kind of unexplainable vengeance – managed to fuck up one of the only characters that still stayed more or less canonical and likeable no matter what so much that there are people – and quite a lot of them – that actually hate him now.

I'm sorry. It's most certainly not something you'd like to see in your inbox, but I couldn't keep this inside of me any longer after seeing one more, long and detailed, post that was so drenched in Red hate it made me a little sick and you always listen to the rambles and rants of people who come into your inbox, so I thought I'd come here, too...

Anon!! ❤️ Firstly, let me say... I know exactly how you feel. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinions & people can respectfully disagree & have healthy discourse & still be friends, which is always the goal!! That being said, my blog has always been a pro-Red place & it continues to be after that horrid excuse for television. So, it shook me as well to see so many people vehemently hating Red, especially those people that weren't Red haters prior to the finale, which - as you so correctly say - is a testament to the damage that was done by that hasty, poorly planned, nonsensical, non-canonical, OOC piece of crap. Especially considering - again, as you so correctly say - how Red has pretty much always been the lovable, sympathetic anti-hero of this show. The fact that one (1) episode could so abruptly make people turn a complete 180 degrees to hating Red is... unbelievable. And sad. Because - & this is strictly my opinion on my blog which I will tag appropriately - Red was not completely & exclusively at fault for what happened in 8.22. (And while this statement implies that I accept or condone anything that happened in that episode, I certainly do not.) Yes, his long-term choices were ultimately the driving force behind Liz's actions BUT - as always - Liz is also responsible for her choices as an individual & she chose not to see reason or listen or trust Red when she had eight years worth of proof that she could. That, of course, is the result of poor characterization & inconsistent writing. Likewise, Red's weird, completely-out-of-left-field, YoU-mUsT-KiLL-mE-fOr-AnSwErS finale BULLSHIT - which is ultimately what turned so many audience members against him - is also the result of rushed, OOC writing. My opinion.

*ahem* After that entire rant (sorry about that, anon, you inspired me LOL) I want to address your second paragraph bc there's certainly no need to apologize for bringing this to my inbox!! (It's definitely better than Red hate itself, which I'm so glad I've never gotten LOL) I don't want you to have to hold all these negative feelings inside you... And I'm always happy to listen & respond to rambles & rants & I strive to make my inbox a safe space, so I'm so thrilled to know you felt you could come to me!! 🤗 If I may, I would recommend trying to stay away from those places where you know anti-Red content to be... I know you can't always predict that sort of thing, but I know it only makes me upset & angry to see such things & if it's making you sick, you have every right to protect yourself & stay away from that stuff!! I know that may seem obvious but... sometimes we all need reminding, myself included!! Tbh, it took me quite a few days after the finale to realize that it would really help my mental state to stay away from content that I know will upset me & that remains true today 😊
