All Might

- He is surprised.

- Toshinori went to get some shopping to make the dinner that the two of you could enjoy, and he returned to a little fluff ball jumping around the living room, trying to catch a little bell while still rolling it around.

- Are you home? Did he forget to close the window and the kitten sneaked it?

- "Y/N? You home?" He asked a little louder, still not sure what happened.

- "Toshinori!" You came into the living room and greeted him with a tight hug, which he gladly returned.

- "Would you mind telling me what's that? Of course, I know it's a cat, but what are they doing here?" He asked, holding you close.

- You just gave him an innocent smile. "Well, I adopted a kitten. Surprise!”

- To your own surprise, he wasn’t angry. In fact, he was very opposite to angry.

- Pretty soon, the kitten got more attached to him.

- As soon as Toshinori was up, the little kitten was up as well, happily trotting behind its beloved human

- This actually made you a little jealous.

- Little cat always lurked around, ready to attack and play with him.

- When it comes to you, the kitten only wanted to play when Toshinori wasn’t around.

- You were basically a replacement for the best human.

- In the end, even if you adopted the kitten in secret and as a surprise, it was a good move.

- The kitten brought Toshinori a lot of comfort when you weren’t around. He never felt alone in the flat.

- You called the kitten "Small Might" just to mess with your boyfriend a little but with all honesty? With the way the kitten got attached to him? It was a very suiting name.

Izuku

- He was gone for two weeks, and he came back to see your shared apartment filled with cat stuff. What even was that?!

- You came out of your room and squealed happily, seeing him back home.

- For a moment, he forgot about the odd stuff until he noticed a little head curiously sticking out from your hood. Big eyes just looking at him.

- He looked at the kitten, and the kitten looked right back at him.

- "Where did you get the kitten? You didn't tell me," Izuku said, sounding almost hurt.

- You pulled away and took the kitten out of the hood to present it to your boyfriend. "Well, say hi to Kyo," you introduced, and kitty meowed proudly. "I took him from the street... I just found him on my way home."

- Izuku smiled and gently patted the kitten's head. Maybe you weren't a hero but you saved a little life. He couldn’t be mad. "Welcome at your new home."

- Both kitten and Izuku got attached to each other pretty quickly, of course not excluding you.

- Kyo was always happy to see you both.

- When Izuku was too busy to play, the kitten was going to play with you. Reverse happened when you were busy.

- The best moments in the kitten's life were the ones where both of you paid attention to him.

- This kitten was spoiled with all the love he deserved.

Aizawa

- Last thing he expected of you was to see you up when he got home from night patrol. It was the middle of the night, and you were all bouncy and happy waiting for him in the kitchen of your shared apartment. "Why are you up, kitten?"

- "I just wanted to see you, I missed you and I have a surprise for you," You explained, getting even more excited.

- Shota sighed, feeling tired. He just wanted to go to bed and snuggle with you before he needed to get up to deal with unruly young heroes.

- You walked away and soon returned with a little kitten in your arms. Little fluff ball meowed and looked at him.

- He blinked, looking at the kitten and then at you. "You got us a kitten? In secret? Y/N..."

- "I know, I know! But we talked about this, yeah? We talked but never did anything on that decision, so I decided to 'go behind your back' let's say," you explained with a sweet smile.

- Suddenly, there was a quiet meow that definitely didn't come from the kitten in your arms.

- Shota let out another sigh and removed his Capturing Weapon to get better access to the upper part of his costume.

- You blinked, confused and then gasped, seeing him pull out a ginger kitten. Kitten meowed while the other meowed happily to see a playmate.

- "I found him during the patrol. It's raining, so I couldn't leave him all alone," he explained, scratching kitten's head.

- Two kittens were better than one!

- Of course, they both were more into Shota. He was a cat magnet, but you didn’t mind it, seeing how much happiness they brought him.

- Seeing Shota working on students' papers with kittens napping on his lap or right on the table was a different kind of cozy.

- Kittens effectively filled up his days, making them much more bearable.

Dabi

- You tried to sneak past him once you got home, which turned out to be a big fail.

- "Trying to sneak past me, huh? I thought you can do better than that," Dabi muttered, wrapping arms around you. You were pulled closer to his body. "Did you get tired of me, princess?"

- You immediately shook your head. "No! Of course not, Touya. I just... I wanted to get to the bathroom," giggling, you shrugged.

- Touya was about something, but a quiet meow interrupted him.

- You went red and tried to escape his grasp, but he didn't let you. Without even asking, Touya reached under your jacket and pulled out a kitten. ”What the hell?"

- After giving him an apologetic smile, you scratched the back of your neck. "I just adopted the kitten... Surprise, I guess?"

- "Just keep that fur ball away from me," he said, giving the kitten back to you.

- Despite his clear dislike of a little creature, the kitten kept trotting back to him. Especially when it got cold.

- One time you caught Dabi petting and playing with the kitten, which was adorable.

- When Touya was napping on the couch, little cat often jumped on his chest or snuggled in the crock of his neck

- Overall, he was on good terms with 'little rat' as he liked to call the cat.

- He loved this kitten, but would NEVER admit it.

Enji Todoroki

- He was furious!

- You dared to bring a cat home that wasn't even yours?!

- "Y/N! Come here!"

- Of course you came over as soon as he called you in, and you could see how mad he was. "Care to explain?" He asked, pointing at the kitten.

- "Well, it's a kitten," you gladly explained, playing dumb.

- Enji wasn't in the mood for playing your stupid game. "I will put it as simple as possible. You get it out of the house, or I'll kick it out myself."

- You blinked, looking at him, from his face you could tell he wasn't joking. "B-But Enji. I can't just give it back... I always wanted a kitten and I thought it would be nice to have some furry..." You tried your best to explain it to him.

- "You think I care? You went behind my back, without even asking me for permission to get a cat!"

- You winced at his raised voice. "B-But it's just a harmless kitten. I'll train it so it won't scratch anything or pee anywhere... Please, let me keep it."

- "I said no. Get rid of it, or I will, and I can't promise it will end up in good hands. You have a week," with those words he walked away. You just picked up a kitten and sighed. "Let's find you a good home, little one."

- For next week, you were looking for someone who could adopt the kitten and gave it a good home.

- Enji didn’t pay any attention to the little animal. Even when the kitten came closer to get warm, he just pushed it away.

- You even tried to maybe talk him into the idea, but it just ended in yet another fight.

- After a week, the kitten was gone, in a new, good home. You still felt bad because of it.

- Todoroki just patted your head. "Don't you ever go behind my back again."

Twice

- "Jin! Jin, come here. I got something to show you," You waved at your beloved with a smile.

- He was immediately right next to you. "What? What is it? C'mon! C'mon, show me what it is, starlight," Jin was basically bouncing from excitement.

- You kissed his cheek and then opened your jacket to reveal the head of a cute kitten. It meowed loudly, looking at both of you.

- "Kitten?! You got us a kitten? You never said you want one... OH, IT'S SO CUTE!," he said, scratching the kitten on the chin.

- "Forgive me. I did that in secret to surprise you, so ta-da!," you giggled and pulled the kitty out so he could hold it.

- "I forgive you, but I am also mad you didn't tell your boyfriend," Twice nodded, busy patting the kitten. "It's so amazingly fluffy, I love it, but it will leave a flat messy with fur."

- Kitten became "Twice Jr." and was the center of Jin's attention.

- Junior was your REAL 'fur baby'

- He was showing it to everyone! Shigaraki and Dabi were not impressed: it was just a cat. Hawks said it was cute, but Toga loved the kitten as much as you and Jin did. They both dressed kitten up in cute and funny outfits.

- Kitten seemed to have a calming effect on him.

- When the identity crisis came, you together with kitten were there to calm Twice down.

- Junior became Jin's best companion, of course kitten wasn’t replacing you, but it's just as important as you.

- Even if you did this in secret, he was really happy you brought this little, additional ray of sunshine into his sad life.

I gotta get this out of my chest (and i might get hate for this but whatever)

I feel like the rain world fandom as a whole is painted in a one-sided lens- thats not true because if you really take a step back and look at the entire picture of it all there are circles and subcircles of certain populations who are into specific parts of the game and its much more nuanced than what most people complain about.

You have of course people who care about the gameplay. Not all of them are into lore stuff but when it comes to fandom stuff they tend to be mixed. They are the closest to being in line with canon. They are a mostly neutral party but they have their own can of worms to feed when it comes to new players, but I'm not here to talk about that relatively speaking.

You have people who enjoy the ideas of the characters and create transformative stuff out of it. This is where most circles of fanon, headcanons and aus reside, the """fandomification""" side of rain world if you will. This is relatively new in the fandom and most new fans(post dp) reside here, and because of that factor they're always given the most flak and attention by veterans who reside in other circles. (Even though these circles can coexist)

Many veterans (though not all of them are veterans) reside in circles that are described as the more canonical and spiritual side- because of the focus of the game. They tend to be more focused on the consistency for what the game offers- making theories and discussing certain aspects and making content that most consider isnt """fandomification""" or woobifying/blorbo-ing characters. Of course, this circle has subcircles of their own

I'm not trying to antagonize people who say that they miss when the fandom was in a relatively calmer and ""non-fandomy"" state. What bothers me is that the newer fans and the ones who enjoy focusing on "the idea of the characters" and talk about it more than the spiritual complex side of the game, are the ones being antagonized usually by these circles. I have not once seen a headcanony person complain about people talking about canon (unless you count me, an individual who is always subject to these discourses albeit unwillingly but whatever)

There is an underlying reality that as a fandom grows larger, so would these circles and some would birth new subcircles (and one of which is rw shipping, which is always the subject of antagonization in fandom discourse. Funnily enough, not within the shipping subcommunity but by people who dislike and or against shipping, especially with slugcats- yes i still cant believe the shipping community is one of the most peaceful communities in all of ship communities ever and that's very telling).

Then there are the subcircles that have always existed. There are people who care more about the slugcats more than the iterators. There are people who care about the iterators more than the slugcats. There are people who care about creating oc content rather than canon content. It goes on.

Im not saying that if you dislike how rivulet for example is often portrayed as "the adhd energetic roundhouse of wawa" that you are invalid. You absolutely have the right to dislike certain aspects the fandom has.

What I don't like is that some of these circles are antagonized and treated as if they were headless chickens pushing the affinity for liking the characters in their own ways. I don't like that they often assume that we can't like or be engaged with canon and discussions surrounding the spiritual and technical aspects of the game because we were more fond of something else. I really don't like that these types of fans are seen as parasites and that they're portrayed as people who are out to ruin the fandom when in reality they're there to enjoy it in their own way. I dont like that we are being assumed that we hate rain world, the game itself.

We have our very own reasons and our very own ways to enjoy this special piece of media. You have the ability to curate your experiences in the fandom- you have the ability to create your own circles and come with your own ideas for how you feel about the game. The fandom is an entire ecosystem composed of unique individuals and fans with their own unique individual takes. That's really not that hard to fathom.

But nah clearly gay slugcat talk and "edgy aus" will turn the rain world fandom into that similar to undertale and steven universe's fandom.

Bakugo learning Polish - headcanons

A/N: thank you, for your wonderful support, Paulinko! I opted for headcanons since the fic exceeded 4k words and I was unsure how to conclude it 😩 I hope you find enjoyment in this set!

MASTERLIST

At first, Bakugo is totally against the idea of learning Polish. He argues that if his girlfriend wants to be with him, she should learn Japanese. Classic Bakugo & his stubbornness.

He declares, "I'll master this language in no time, just watch!"

During his first few attempts, Bakugo hilariously mispronounces Polish words. He tries to say "cześć" but ends up saying something like "shhheeess" instead, leading to confused stares from his girlfriend.

He tries to make flashcards and ends up accidentally setting them on fire due to his boiling anger and frustration.

Midoriya genuinely tries to help Bakugo learn, and during a study session, he says something supportive like, "Learning a new language is like mastering a new quirk, Kacchan!"

Bakugo's Polish language journey takes an unexpected turn when he masterfully learns the first word: "kurwa." Unfortunately, he becomes a bit too proficient at it, and now "kurwa" becomes his go-to expression whenever he's frustrated or annoyed.

Bakugo's curse-laden vocabulary starts to seep into his Polish attempts. He exclaims, "Kurwa, it's cold today!" or "Ja pierdole, I'm so fucking tired!" and his girlfriend can't help but burst into laughter at his seamless integration of expletives.

Bakugo's first attempts at pronunciation longer Polish sentences are more like an explosion of consonants than actual words. He struggles with pronouncing "dziś czuję się dobrze" or "dzisiaj mamy ładny dzień". His girlfriend tries her best not to burst into laughter as he declares, "Ja pi-kurwa-er-dowhatever grrrr!"

Bakugo's temper flares up during a particularly tough lesson, and he starts cursing in Polish. His girlfriend can't help but laugh at his creative and highly inappropriate choice of words.

Bakugo's girlfriend finds his dedication endearing and starts teaching him Polish phrases as they cuddle in bed. Bakugo grumbles about how he's "only doing this because it's practical to know more than one language" while secretly enjoying the late-night lessons.

He uses Google Translate with unwavering confidence, thinking he's got this language thing down. However, he quickly realizes that the phrases he's trying to use are as awkward as trying to diffuse a bomb blindfolded.

Bakugo's top Polish words are: pierogi (dumplings), kurczak (chicken), cycki (boobs), chrzcielnica (baptismal font) and pociąg (train). No one knows why and what for though.

Bakugo's practice sessions sound like an intense workout montage. He paces around his room, muttering Polish phrases with increasing determination, and occasionally throwing in a few furious "damns", "kurwa" and "shits" when he gets frustrated.

Instead of polite greetings, Bakugo greets his girlfriend and classmates with a booming "Hej, kurwa!" or "Cześć, idioci!" The look on her face is a mix of disbelief and amusement as she tries to explain the appropriate way to say hello.

One day, he proudly tells his girlfriend, "I learned a new word today: 'dziękuję.' It means 'thank you'." She chuckles and praises him for a succesfull attempt.

The other day, Bakugo presents his girlfriend with a hastily written note that reads, "Jesteś moją ulubioną kobietą." She giggles and gives him a loving hug, appreciating the sentiment despite the unconventional phrasing - her heart melts on spot!

Bakugo's determination doesn't waver, even in the face of his linguistic struggles. He proudly tells his girlfriend, "I might not be fluent yet, but I'll damn well keep trying until I can butter you up in Polish like a pro!"

Glossary: cześć - hi kurwa - this one has few meanings. First obvious one is “fuck” and second is “whore”. Kurwa can also be used as a pause in sentence to show how much angry you are ja pierolę - it's like with kurwa, it can have multiple meanings depending on context, closest equivalent in english would be "fucking hell" or "fuck me" (when you're surprised or angry) dziś czuję się dobrze - today I'm feeling well dzisiaj mamy ładny dzień - today's a nice day idioci - morons jesteś moją ulubioną kobietą - you're my favorite woman

I have been drawing otherwise, mostly learning ropes and anatomy, I just need to actually finish something instead of practise, I finished my rope bunny idea but he doesn't really count as fandomy, lol.

So yeah, I dunno. I've also been writing but nothing fandom related. And now back to my ditch, lol. 🩷

LOL. I don’t feel like I know enough about fiction publishing to have an opinion on how this affects trends or the industry in general, so simply as a woman who likes to read and write: extremely mixed feelings. sometimes it is really funny or even charming to me (when a mostly non-fandomy feeling book drops “he toed off his shoes” i can laugh and move on). however. i feel like many people who write fan fiction see it as fringe in such a way that they don't want to look frankly at how it influences writing style, and that can result in some very bad books. i think the "writing is writing is writing is writing!" school of thought does way more harm than good stylistically and we'd all be doing ourselves a favor to think of fic as a specific genre with specific genre conventions. and consciously or not, a lot of us practice those genre conventions for years, and i do think hopping between fic and original fiction poses some unique challenges. and sometimes this transition is executed poorly in a really obvious way. not just in the language either but also in terms of structure and idea. i think fic is so trope-forward partially because it is typically driven by pleasure-seeking, and partially because it's inherently about riffing. and this practice of RIFFING in particular stands out to me in certain contemporary novels, where it can feel like the author is trying to leapfrog over building an emotional core and instead shape it in reverse, by setting up tropes or dynamics that signify this core exists somewhere, just not on the page. and this can happen in really clear ways (trope-forward romance novels that everyone knows started as fic that include one line like "we've hated each other since we competed in our boarding school spelling bee") and more subtle ways (not to claim random authors i know nothing about are suffering from fan fiction habits but something like mrs s springs to mind. and i didn't even hate that book it just had that weird no-backstory feeling). and the fact that this so often coincides with queer lit and the perception that there's still a lack of stories just makes the whole thing feel sort of tragic.

the flip side of this is that i love fic writers, i love talking to people who find writing so fun they just do it regardless of gain, and i have found a lot of the habits and friendships i've formed through fic extremely helpful to my original fiction. i really love and support fic writers who write and publish original fiction. in a way i think fandom has a fantastic influence on publishing because it's where so many great writers practice and play. but again, ideally that involves being very mindful of the divisions instead of trying to ignore them.

overall if a fandom influence is coming through to me as the reader i'm probably not loving it. i will generally be more forgiving with romance and ya because i think they are fan fiction's closest genre cousins and have a lot of overlapping readership. lit fic i find it more annoying. little rabbit by alyssa songsiridej is another good example. also on a totally different note i think the funniest/weirdest bleed area is rpf and i am genuinely kind of pissed about the graham gore romance novel because i wanted to write that lol. anyway great question.

I really tried to like this run, I really did. The seeds were planted in the Failsafe arc, then there was a tiny bit with the next arc (Red Death), and the way this one began.

Yeah…

This is just my preference, but I enjoy a comic book story if the writer clearly has a passion for all the characters involved.

When it comes to Batman?

I just ask if you're gonna use Cass. Use her wisely.

Don't use her as a "prop".

It's why I left Tom King's Batman run after Batman #81 because that's what Cass was in that run.

I came back to Batman because I truly did enjoy James Tynion IV's style in his Tec run. Yes, he played it safe but it was a FUN kind of safe.

Even if they were cheesy, Tynion's Batman and later Joshua Williamson's runs were fun. So was Mariko Tamaki's Tec run. They treated the characters involved with respect and gave some standout Cass moments. They didn't seem like a "prop" and somehow always figured into the story.

Why I SOOOOO checked out hard when Future State: Gotham did this too (so much so I totally have forgotten who wrote the story). Cass wasn't a character in that (among others). She was just a prop to showcase how "far" Nightwing had gone.

Now, this current Batman run by Chip Zdarsky has done this too. I really did give this run a fair chance. For his "Failsafe" arc the ideas were there but---

There was never any follow-up. No payoff to the ideas introduced in the arc. Cass jobbed but it made sense. Because at the very least "Failsafe" was made to be counter to Bruce and the Family. But…

We got zero payoffs to Cass/Duke doing anything in the arc or anything out of Gotham being lorded over by a machine.

Compare this to what's going on in Detective Comics by Ram V.

Yes, Cass is a minor presence but the writer pays at least some payoff from plots that he introduces the character too. There's consistency.

I see 0 consistency from Zdarsky from point A to B. Take today's #137 issue for example. We spent a setup with Cass getting zero motives as to why she (and Duke) are siding with the rest.

They just are.

0 characterization and 0 payoff from point A to B. What do we get for Cass in the issue? She jobs hard to Bruce. I just don't see any reason why as a fan of Cass I should care about this run?

I mean yeah, Zdarsky dangles the "happy" family in front of us in #136, and also tells us that bad things are coming for Bruce and the Family.

Buuuuuut… where's the characterization? The panel that tells us what Cass sees?

You could've easily had Cass in #136 just a mere two panels glance at Bruce and him back at her. Him knowing she knows something is wrong.

Nope. We don't get that. Just cute fun (we get that via Dick instead).

It would bridge to her being against him in #137. If that was the case I probably wouldn't be angry over the issue. Cass doesn't feel like a character in the story, just a prop. And when a writer goes that route I CHECK OUT.

The other problem I've been having with this Zdarsky run is the "word play" as well. Dick, Tim, Jason, and Damian all get name-dropped as "sons" to Bruce. Note who isn't mentioned.

AND YET...

But that is me just being picky and fandomy. But the other stuff I can't overlook. I will miss this run. I really REALLY love Jorge Jiménez's Cass. Like he understands the assignment ANY time he's asked.

Just that, good art has to accompany a fun or thrilling story. We're getting none of that from my point of view. Maybe this changes in a few issues. Maybe it'll be longer.

I just can't read this comic any longer. It's not a read I enjoy. So until then bye Batman. It was fun.

Anyway. I said my peace. I just want to vent this out of my system. 🙏

uncanny avengers overall thoughts

First, my fave:

my worst prediction for this series was, going off the covers, that Monet was going to be in Penance the entire time in this series, and it would just double down on the worst of all of that. On this front I was pleasantly surprised.

Monet was mostly in character, she broadly speaking felt like herself and looked liked herself. The art in this series was pretty mid in my opinion, but there were a few moments where she looked very much like she did in the bulk of Generation X which I appreciated

I think I've already said that her behaviour in this series is not very in tune with how she would act if all her friends were just murdered. In this series she's briefly violent and vengeance-y, and then just chipper and flirty. Neither really works that well for her (her reaction would more realistically be depressive and inward facing, which would be in keeping with past characterisation). However, given that I don't think duggan would write anything serious for her other than "revenge stabby", I'm glad we got levity instead.

I did not need to see her and kwannon join the line up of characters featured in duggan's "step on me mommy" fantasy series, but at least it was brief.

While I am glad that she's protrayed here almost entirely using her orginal power set and not just the penance thing, it's worth saying that she's nerfed to hell and back in this. She is portrayed as flying sort of once, but in a panel where natasha is doing the same thing so... yeah i'd say that duggan forgot she can do that. She's portrayed as less strong than steve, and as vulnerable to pretty basic injuries. Like... no... she's "lift a car over her head" strong and invulnerable to most injuries. Get it right. Also, every time she uses her telepathy, kwannon inexplicably "helps" her with it. Weird. Bad.

Second, my nemesis:

the fact that this was planned as a 5 issue limited run probably did duggan a lot of favours. His worst habits are curbed by having a set end point in sight and no time to meander about. We didn't get countless dropped threads and subplots that disappear as quickly as they're introduced.

We do see his thing for including a fave of his for no clear reason and with no obvious plan for what do actually do with them (natasha in this case), and that general sense of a lack of point. In general, we also get his hero-worshippy/fanfic esque tendencies in how he treats certain characters.

Maybe it's mean of me to bitch and moan about this guy when it comes to a series that is overall pretty average and hardly rage-inducing. But I do have a point here (if perhaps an unkind one)

Every time a new title is announced with his name attached, some people with be excited and some will roll their eyes. And the excited ones will say "why are you so pessimistic, he wrote xyz and they were fine?". And the eye-rollers will say "No. they weren't. Either they're the first comics you've read so you're not comparing them to anything, or they just didn't do anything with any of your serious faves so you didn't notice."

And that's condescending, but it's fucking true. Every few months another batch of fans start to hate this guy, and it's because he's done something dumb with characters/ideas they care about. But it's never just that thing. It's what he does with nearly everything, and it's just taking forever to people to notice that he's a hack.

and this isn't just fandomy "my fave got a bad shake", although that is how the salt tends to start. With duggan, the technical skill is not there. He can't structure a story to save his life. He loses focus, consistently imparts the opposite of his intentions, and wouldn't know a theme if it slapped him in the face.. and then stepped on him... in high heels.

Thirdly, a weird thing:

ok that's unfair. But I am bored with him. I'm bored of this. The same repetative character beats and endless hero worship. In the 70s cap comics, they're not afraid to portray him negatively. Like, they know you'll root for him anyway, so let him be a mixed bag at times, let the story not flatter him at all times. But they've stopped doing that. It's weird.

Evil Stevil could be used as a beat to explore flaws in steve's actual personality, you know? A dark mirror. Or, he could be used to hash out Sam's complicated feelings about his ex-partner (a concept explored more interestingly in fan discussions than in the text so far imo). But no. Here, it's "wow isn't real steve so great compared to blond hitler!". And like, yeah. Whatever.

Yeah I don't really want to discuss this I think i'm just feeling fed up and annoyed

🍓 How did you get into writing fanfiction? Honestly, that's a great question, but I have absolutely no recollection of how. I know I only get into fandomy stuff when I was about 17 or 18. I've always liked languages and writing, and wrote my tiny stories for myself since I was a teenager, but then they were not fic. I have no idea what fic I read that actually inspired me to start writing.

🍇How many fandoms have you written in?

It actually isn't many, only about four.

🍈 How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

Well, I wrote fic for about 5 years from 18 to 23, then I had a looooooong break and started writing again at the end of last year. It's been slow getting back into it, but ... doing my best.

🍎 Do you read or write more fanfiction?

Definitely read more. I have many ideas, but I've always had a love hate relationship with writing, and I'm a much slower writer than a reader.

🍌 What is one way you've improved as a writer?

Definitely language skills. I'm not a native speaker and writing helped me a lot with stylistics and just generally finding my voice. I learned sometimes less is more. Also indirectly helped me with my job where I now can give a pretty good guidance on how to write essays and stories (am a teacher).

🍑 Do you have any bad habits as a writer?

LENGTH! Though this is funnily something that only shows when I'm roleplaying. I write too much! It's not always a bad thing, but I'd like to write more concisely.

🍍 What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

I might be a boring writer and I don't really remember me writing anything that required a lot of research. I, however, am obsessed with time in my writing and I go to great lengths to be accurate when writing about past and time in the past. So I did research times of sunrise and sunset in certain years, so I could be accurate when writing a scene and the timing of it.

🍉What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

Any comments are love, but I love those that engage with you as a writer. Where people give me their theories, or ideas, or where they quote parts they loved the most in my fics.

🍐What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

I'm a sucker for slice of life and I don't think I've ever written anything that could be considered a fringe topic.

🥭What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

A story. Period. I think I would be bad at things that are not slice of life. Obviously in Harry Potter we have all the magic and I don't count that, that's more of a setting, but I do love AUs and I still can't imagine writing an AU that's very removed from real life, like for example fantasy or sci-fi. Also writing smut is really hard (I'm willing to push through for this one haha).

🍏What is the easiest type?

None? Writing is torture. I love it thought.

🍑Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

I usually write at home, though sometimes ideas strike on public transport, so that's where I take notes a lot. I use mostly my computer. And I'm the most productive at night when I should be sleeping.

🍋What is something you've been too nervous/ intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

In Marauders' fandom, I'm actually intimidated by canon / magical world. I've read the books countless times, but it's been a while since and even though I'm slowly getting back to it, I feel like I need to reread to make sure I'm getting things right. I'd love to write lie low at Lupin's and lost years. And then holy grail would be to write a magical canon-divergence.

🍇What made you choose your username?

I've had many usernames over the years, but the one I'm using currently is a homage to T-Rex's Diamond Meadows. It's a song I've always loved and then it made it's way to my Marlene playlist (who was the first character i picked to roleplay when I get into Marauders' rp) and it became her song in my head. And then it became my username on AO3 (and here minus S).

I've been in the same fandom for 15 years and I've always got extremely emotional about it. Like extremely. Like sobbing and feeling like throwing things (sometimes I have thrown things) because people don't interpret a character how I do, or hating myself for not liking a popular ship I for some reason think I should like because not liking it means I'm being defensive and weak about something.

I know it's obviously not just "I get insane over fanfic", it's also that I have a whole history of family stress, emotional dysregulation, one of my friends thinks I might be autistic + my connection to these characters is very personal and how I/others play with them tugs on my values, worldview etc (e.g.: ideas about vulnerability and morality).

But I still feel like I get insane over fanfic and no one else gets *this* affected and I feel really alone.

Plenty of people get like this. If they rein it in, you don't hear about it. If they don't rein it in, they often turn into ginormous jerks you would not want to spend time with, so they end up actually alone and you still don't hear about it.

Emotional dysregulation is sadly pretty common. If you're very into fandom and you have this type of problem, obviously, it's going to come out in fandomy ways because it creeps into every aspect of your life.

2023 in review

Just the fannish creations, thanks. I don't want to think too hard about how fucking weird and stressful the year was outside of that. XD

I found some old 00Q art hiding on my hard drive and posted it in Feb.

I wrote a short Inception ficlet for @ladyprydian in April to try to jumpstart my muses. It didn't work.

I binge-wrote a whole-ass Sandman fic with (gasp!) fade-to-black porn in it in May.

July brought the Stony games! I was much less prolific than last year, but I managed a few things, starting with 3 little drabbles about perception.

I did a giftfic for the games! It starts in media res and I, being a troll, titled it In Pornia Res because yeah, this one's just pure porn against a background of worldbuilding.

I posted a longstanding WIP that was 100% self-indulgent trash, with Tony and Steve getting Bucky as their new sugar baby and treating him them right. Absolutely just the fluffiest of trash, but 66K of it!

I posted another longstanding WIP that's really pre-slash (I KNOW so weird) but involves catboy Tony, catboy Bucky, and a puppy Steve who's gonna get both (after the fic anyway).

My last little Stony Games fill was 8-bit pixel porn, because of course it was.

Later in August I did the "write what you want to see" thing and banged out (heh) a very kinky Stranger Things fic with Steve/Eddie and a leather bar. Somehow, it's still extremely fluffy.

I drew! Fanart! With pens and shit! Also Steve/Eddie.

And then I made pixel art of them, because why not.

Another Steddie fic, this time a modern AU with 'lost touch' feelings and also banging the rockstar in his hotel room.

And finally, my MTH2021 fic is posting a year late, and will continue on into the new year. It's all done and edited, I just like the daily posting method for getting drip-fed dopamine and also sitting there posting 29 chapters at once is no bueno.

What's Coming in 2024 (besides my blorbos)

I have a few more Stuckony WIPs waiting in the wings, including my MTH 2022 fic, which I hope to finish in time to actually participate in 2024.

I have at least 1 novel coming out and maybe 2? I didn't publish ANY original fiction last year (gah), but I finished 1 draft (the sequel to Hive) and am plodding along on 2 more (Julian 4 and something new). I am so slow these days, tho, gah. I have no idea how some people put out multiple books a year, year after year.

I've got a few more Eeveeon arts to share, which I always forget to do on Tumbls.

I might actually open commissions next year (for art, I don't enjoy fic commissions).

I'm gonna a Stuckony Valentine thing, so you'll get at least one short fic from me in Feb.

I'm hoping something new will sweep me into its fandomy arms, because while I do love my current blorbos (MCU & Stranger Things), neither one is really doing the full fixation dance in my brain and that's sad. OTOH I'd like to finish my MCU WIPs before that spark fully dies ahahaha haha ha.

As far as art goes, I'm keeping up my Patreon sketch cards and not a ton else, but my new-new meds are helping me Get Shit Done, so I'm really hoping that I can get back into larger-than-a-playing-card artwork, both fannish and non.

I'm still gonna do more of my 8-bit bullshit, though.

Hey bud, just checking in. Still worried about the stuff in your big post the other day? Or was it more of a "don't believe the things you think about your life after 9pm" situation?

heya! thank u so much for checking in <3 im okay, kind of had the same thing happen after i saw the closing night on broadway (my poor mum had to deal with me bursting into tears at random times through the next 2 days we were in new york after the show). I chatted with Bunny and felt better afterwards, i just woke up at like 4am and became absolutely overwhelmed with dread about the fandom fizzling out... 100% one of those "don't believe the things you think about your life after 9pm" situations, for sure. (it didnt help that i then got up, had a huge crick in my neck and then had a shit day at work that culminated in me crying and getting hugs from the nurses at my work twice but that did take my mind off the fandom dread slightly!)

i have been thinking for a while that i'd take a crack at writing some original fiction once i get the dead should stay dead out of my system (would probably still write little silly oneshots/smutty fics for fun, but maybe not too much more in the way of longform fics for a bit, idk, ive got super limited free time what with work and exams etc) but for some reason that morning i was fixated on the idea that everyone was going to leave the fandom and was especially scared that the fandom might die and then i'd never have the drive to finish the dead should stay dead and i really really want to see this fic through because im proud of it and am super excited to see how people like the rest of what ive got planned.

it's silly, and Bunny talked me down a little (pointing out that fics really are forever and a fandom is never entirely dead, even if people drift away, there's every chance the fandom could pick up again at some point in the future and the fics might be rediscovered). also I went out and spent the day with some friends who Get It (my husband is very understanding but he isnt the anxious type or the fandomy type so he didn't really understand my half asleep rambles lol). my friend also shut my worries down like 'bro im part of the les mis fandom that book is centuries old'. also maybe seeing friends and being social helped

Today is not only September 1st and time to head back to Hogwarts, but it’s @greenmegsnoham‘s birthday! Megs is a fellow snek who is a master of many trades, so here’s a custom nameplate and a mix of recs of all her fandomy things! I first started seeing Megs around in the Rare Pairs and Drarry servers, but I didn’t get to know her until fests! She participated in a few fests I signed up for too, and then I claimed her Flintwood prompt for Quidditch Fest 2021 (aka this is what had us gushing about this ship to begin with). She was also one of the first folks to join the Wizarding Creators Den server when I first started it almost a year ago (wow, time flies!). When I heard Megs’ had a HP podcast, I was naturally intrigued, and started listening to episodes since late last summer. I joined the @careofmagicalshippers server, and well, the rest is history! If you don’t know what Care of Magical Shippers is, it’s a Harry Potter ship culture podcast where Megs and co-host Nathan dive into the when, why, and how for various ships! From OTPs to the rarest of the rare, they’ve got you covered. They’re full of giggles, but they also go into some interesting and in-depth ideas and dynamics for all the ships they discuss. Each episode I’ve listened to so far has given me something new to think about. The server community Megs has cultivated for the podcast has been a great place to meet like-minded folk too. It’s inclusive and 1000% embraces fandom etiquette to allow readers and creators to like what they like, feel safe and be their authentic selves. There’s a monthly fic club, as well as a few bingos, Ministry Mayhem (aka crack and chaos) and other creative activities for people to take part in if they fancy it. I’ve never seen a community or a podcast like CoMs before, so it’s really refreshing that Megs has taken the reigns to carve out a space that gives love to pretty much any ship you can think of (yay for all of the rare pairs, tropes and spicy things! 🌶️). It’s obvious Megs is passionate about what she does, and she genuinely appreciates all the people who make up fandom (readers, mods, reccers and creators alike). It shows in the way she screams about a lot people’s creations, shares all of the creator events she knows about, and just the general hype she creates about so many different ships is something you want to join in on. Not to mention, she’s not afraid to be goofy or geeky. We absolutely need more of that humour, especially during such a weird time right now. This episode is here, not just because Megs and I have screamed bonded over Flintwood so much, but because there is some good emotional and deep content discussed that we normally wouldn’t pick up right away when we see these two together...until folks dig into all the fic, characterisations and possible backstories that exist. Yes, Marcus and Oliver can get physical, rough and rowdy, and there is so much tension between them, but there are so many reasons why (aka denial of feelings). Summary: Perciver is the ship of choice the week, and the perfect Nerd x Jock pairing! Megs and Nathan are joined again in this episode by Geoff (aka DreamQuaffle)! Fantastic Percy-centric discussion to be had, lots of giggles (obviously), and features ANOTHER fire of a fic by Geoff! Get ready for the SPICE!

I loved how silly this episode was! Yes, I am a Perciver shipper, but what I really appreciate about this episode is how Megs, Nathan and Geoff go more into Percy’s characterisation, how Oliver complements him (and vice versa), and the potential of both of them being on the neurodivergent spectrum. It really does make sense when it comes they’re fanatical and sometimes over-zealous tendencies about anything they’re super passionate about (like each other). If Megs wasn’t already busy enough with the podcast, she’s also a fest mod! She ran @hpshipuary, a daily ship challenge, this past February and she is currently modding @hpcestfest (claiming is still open until Sept. 9th) and @hpfacultyfest (which is still open for claiming, and works start posting today). She does all the graphic design work for everything listed above, she’s an artist (check out her art) AND she writes fic! I have no idea how she has time to do all of these things, but gods, I am so impressed. Honestly, I think Megs must have some ridiculous superpowers to juggle everything. Amazzzing.

I had no idea I needed this ship until I read this?! Gosh, soulmates and the amount of feelings this fic has is pretty mind-blowing. So I’m usually not one for infidelity fics, but this one just worked. It reminded me of my uni days where many people (myself included) were told to find someone ASAP to live happily ever after, and sometimes, that’s not how life works. Sometimes, you do need to go with your gut feeling, and this is what this story embraces. Also, Bill is just hot in this. I gotcha, Harry. I see what you see. ❤️ >>> I’m not broken (Drarry, T, 455)

Summary: Draco should want to have sex with his boyfriend...shouldn't he?

Oh, this is gorgeous. This fic captures such a vulnerable and important moment for Draco, and anyone else who identifies as ace. We’re always told about love and sex and how they need to be linked together, but that’s not the case! You can love someone like Draco loves Harry, and sex doesn’t need to part of it. Also, there’s more than relationships than sex (as well as a whole spectrum of attraction and other things in between). 🧹 >>> Yes, Daddy (Scorpius/Harry, E, 11.5k, mind the tags)

OKAY. I usually don’t seek out fic with age difference, breeding or daddy kinks much, but I have to say, this was smokin’, and it’s a fic that’s hard not to re-read or think about. There’s humour, and I adore Al and Scorpius’ friendship. Not onlt that, but damn, the smut makes you sweat 🥵 and goes to a whole new level. Megs worked some magic with this one, since you know, I’m cool with reading more fics with these kinks now. But also, Harry and Scorpius are actually just so tender with each other. And Draco is dramatic as usual, what else is new? 🤣 💼 >>> It’s Yours (Neville/Percy, E, 3k, mind the tags)

Summary: Neville's interview for Percy's secretary takes a very interesting turn...

Sooo, this one doesn’t have Harry in it, but if you like Top!Percy, praise kink, power play and boss/employee dynamics, this is the fic for you. Also, Megs pointed out there needs to stories where Percy’s taking the lead. I agree, and she’s making it happen. I don’t know what the hell it is, but Percy not only being in control in the office but when it comes to sex is very appealing. And seeing this from his perspective, which shows what motivates him to do the things he does and to get what he wants, and Neville just handing all of that over...yes.
