• Cecil says he can't believe this is how he returns to Baron. Considering it was either going to be dead or in chains, yeah, same
• everybody in FFIV fandom just kinda . . . forgets that Yang can have all the same delicious mind control angst as Kain. It's understandable, though. Monk isn't as (unreasonably) charismatic a class as Dragoon (HOW ARE THEY SO COOL?), and Yang has his personal life sorted out, unlike Kain and his mountain of bullshit
• lmao Tellah uses the Devil's Road and immediately wants to take a nap
• all of Baron was told Cecil died but Dark Knight Cecil has one fan boy child, cutie pie still believes in his ominous hero figure coming back to set things . . . well I don't know how much you can reasonably expect a dark knight in FFIV universe to set things right, it's pretty vague
• i remember more people recognizing cecil but he's on the DL and i think that's after cagnazzo
• considering rosa's mum may be the closest thing to a mother cecil has ever had, if you use a bit of fanon, it's disappointing they don't interact more than to imply cecil stonewalls her about rosa's kidnapping. which, i mean, that forwards my agenda that cecil locks up about anything personal so hard he regularly shoots himself in the foot. picking over the tiniest characterization hints to flesh out this funky little paladin. stoic man. constipated little fellow

UNPOPULAR NSFW OBEY ME OPINIONS
I'm joking ofc. Idk if these are really unpopular opinions, but they're my opinions. But anyway yeah NSFW below the cut 18+ minors gtfo dni pls and ty
Lucifer
Tbh I wouldn't even consider fucking him if it weren't for the bdsm.
The only one I'd ever call Daddy
I want him to call me good boy while he rearranges my insides.
Mammon
Is a switch
Goes from arrogant top to whiney bottom.
Is the only reason I developed into a switch
He makes me wanna make him beg
Could call me "My Precious" to be sweet and I'd bust out laughing, LOTR got me by the nonexistent balls I'm sorry.
Leviathan
If it's not the hc where he's got two dicks in his demon form then I don't want it.
You can try convincing me he's a sub.
I won't believe you.
It may take a lot to build his confidence enough to get him going
But once he's going you won't be able to walk straight for a month
Definitely a fan of those fics where you cockwarm him while he's playing FFIV
DP Monster Fucker right here.
Satan
I'm more of a dog person when it comes to pet names, but I'd let him call me kitten unironically and get away with it.
Discord mod mf
Would probably use the same pet names as Lucifer. I know it, you know it, if either one of us say that to his face he'll probably explode.
Also only wanna fuck him for the bdsm
Asmodeus
You already know. Kinkiest mf on the list. Knows everything and every position. Could go on for hours, make you cum countless times, and not even be done with foreplay.
He'd make me feel so good about myself and my body, knocking out every one of my insecurities. The idea of it is just so soft and wholesome.
I'd learn to love my body while he's busy leaving his marks all over it
And the aftercare is *mwah*, chef's kiss
Beelzebub
My favorite. A fucking unit. Man works out and it shows.
No it's not just because I have a size kink be quiet
The only one I'd let eat me out
And yes as he does you bet your ass I'm over there droolin on his cock.
Adorable in the streets, fucking menace in the sheets
I can go on for hours but I don't want to be too blatant with my favoritism. I'll save that for a different post
Belphie
I want to be clear. I don't like degradation.
That said, he can call me a slutty whore and I'd let him get away with it.
The only one I'd let be mean to me
Threesomes with Beel are a major plus
Literal cuddle fuck
Diavolo
Now this one
This one is because I have a size kink
I don't care about royalty or any of that
I'm mainly just curious to see how much his cock would bulge out my stomach
Barbatos
This man can do whatever he wants to me I don't even care
He's incredibly intimidating, but also so fuckin fine
I'd be scared and horny at the same time ngl
Would treat you like royalty by day
Would treat you like a fuck toy by night
Solomon
I don't remember where I saw it.
I don't remember when I saw it.
But I saw someone make fan art of him summoning tentacles.
That's really all I needed tbh
Man's freaky in ways I can't even imagine
Simeon
He's hot. Absolutely.
But I would not fuck him
I will simp to high heavens, but I won't fuck him.
Unless he's into it then idk it could go anywhere tbh

GOT THERE
Tumblr media
After some advanced maneuvers I have finally completed FFXVI. Overall the game is an outstanding experience and motion sickness aside its one of my favorite games.
As someone who grew up with FFX and FFIV it brings my heart joy that FFXVI is good. The game is a series of well thought out decisions inflated with side quest packing peanuts. Its a mix of flashy spammy combat and showy setpieces. The centerpiece of the plot, the relationship between Clive and his brother Joshua, is very well executed and made me feel feelings.
When I previewed Eikon fights (the big kaiju battles) I thought they would be unfun QTE’s. I’m happy to say I was wrong and the eikon battles ended up being showstopping victory laps after the actual boss battle took place. Oh my god are the late game eikon fights incredible. They do such a good job preserving a sense of scale through them and make controlling Ifrit feel much different than Clive so you really feel the weight of each punch.
The combat system really kicks into high gear after the game’s midpoint and you can have vastly different experiences in combat. My friend would set up defensive arrays and traps to trigger damage where I would cloak myself in damage and limit break with aggressive counters. I’m very impressed with how simple but deep the combat was for this game.
The music for this game is also on another level. Oh my god. Early onset alltimer’s disease with this one. Heart of Stone, All as One, Away, On the Shoulders of Giants. There’s some big brain mixes of modern electronic elements that work really well too. The Lion and the Hare is a really good example of it.
The game did have a few things I was not a fan of. I already mentioned motion sickness. Helldivers 2 started to fuck with me but after I widened the vertical FOV by 15pts I was fine. Sidequests flood you in the end half of the game, and after I stopped feeling like they gave me anything meaningful resource or story wise I skipped all the basic sidequests. Side characters and female characters also aren’t the best in this game, they have weaker design/writing.
Except Uncle Byron. He was a wonderful injection of humanity in the middle of the protagonist’s fatalistic brooding. 11/10.
If I could widen the FOV a bit and reduce camera movements during attack animations this would be an easy 10/10 for me to recommend. My issues aside, FFXVI is a very strong entry into the FFXVI series and I hope the team who made it gets to make FFXVII, or even their own personal project. They’re making good work and I’d love to see what they want to make next.

10 Fandoms/10 tags
Tagged by: @kskellington (thanks!)
This was hard... had to really think about fandoms since I tend to be hyper focused on only one or two in my lifetime. I tried to choose characters who have inspired me to create (fan or original work) or implement concepts into my creations. In no particular order:
FFIV- Golbez
FFIX- Vivi
FFXIV- Amon (ST clone version)
Baldur's Gate 3 - Astarion
Guild Wars 2 - Snaff
Lord of the Rings - Gandalf
Super Mario Bros - Luigi
Legend of Zelda - Link
Castlevania - Alucard
Game of Thrones - Tyrion
Tagging: Anyone who wants to try. I think many folks have already been tagged, but if you haven't, give us your fandoms!

My Thoughts on 6.5! (Note: Spoilers.)
Hey everyone :)
A little background on me - I'm a new player as of late Shadowbringers from World of Warcraft. I know, I know! A scary WoW player. Rest assured, I'm a roleplayer, and not an elitist. I did like PvE content in WoW, but I prefer story building and roleplay. I'm an author, after all!
Anyhow, with that in mind, I admittedly wasn't a huge fan of 6.5 MSQ. What was intriguing about the 6.x series was how Zero's character was challenging the notion of voidsent being just evil in the MSQ. We've seen instances in side content where this is the case, and in fact emphasized - a lot of All Saint's Wake stuff comes to mind (speaking of which, where's the info on it for this year? I'm dying to know!). However, in this instance, Zero's story in my personal opinion really did not end well at all. It was the typical 'defeat dark with light' and 'cure the void'. We went from a half-voidsent hero with a cool, unique aesthetic to just another paladin. I don't mind stories where a darker character goes lighter... in a vacuum. When it's repeated over and over and never in the reverse, to show the 'dark' stuff can be used for good too, though, it gets SUPER old. Why can't we have a paladin/light user switch to 'dark magic' and be a hero? (I know it happens a lot in side content, but I'd want to see it as a highlight of a story for once.) The "Warrior of Darkness" thing they did in Shadowbringers was super neat! But it was, all in all, in TITLE only, not actual lore. The Warrior of Light/Darkness didn't switch unless it's your OC lore that it happened.
All in all, I was disappointed. Any nuance she had went out the window with that generic, predictable ending, and Golbez's arc was waaaay too rushed to be satisfying at all. One could argue he's the 'good void user' or something, but I honestly don't buy it. Meanwhile, Zero's character design changed greatly too. I rolled my eyes hardcore while her scythe broke. Sigh. Plus, what happened to Zero's camp where she was helping voidsent? Voidsent not (as) aggressive? I wanted to see more of them and help them... with Zero (before she became a paladin). They just... left that there. No closure at all. Ugh. One could say everyone there was killed by Barbariccia but i thought they were all freed once she was slain?
Anyway, I was told 6.5 was a callback to FFIV or something, but I've not played any other games and have no interest in doing so. FFXIV has my interest and the reliance on nostalgia in stories is kinda meh. I dunno. Maybe these portions of the game aren't for me, but it's just... disappointing. It doesn't make it a good story. To me, it just wasn't.
(For WoW fans - the story reminded me of Calia & Lothraxion. Somewhat of the blood elf story as well. I'd say Lightforged Draenei, but they're not the dark to light trope so much as just fanatical light users.)
I liked the Myths of the Realm better, but I've seen the community voicing their distaste for what happened, and while I actually enjoy a huge chunk of it, the ending left me feeling very hollow. I've figured out why that is now, too.
I think one of my 'dislikes' even if I like the overarching story of the Myths of the Realm is that we just met everyone, and they all left. I sort of wish it was more 'hey we need a break, can you help us so we can take it? We want to become normal mortals for a little while and learn more about the world in person'. While remaining the gods and gathering power again so they can help more effectively.
I dunno. That would have been a more satisfying ending for me as opposed to them all essentially dying and leaving us with… no gods. It just feels really sad that after all these near world-ending exterminations, now the gods leave. I understand why - they need a break. But yeah… I kinda wish it was done that way 😭 Because I hate meeting a character, loving that character, seeing personification of very powerful entities… and having to say goodbye right away. It just feels really sad. I guess that's the point, but yeah.
I don't mind they were originally people and morphed by beliefs, but I also wish there were hints that peoples' faith were forming new gods (that again - would retain personalities and humble-ness stuff.)
Because after thinking about it for some time, it just feels kinda sad that they're needed the most now, after the world was nearly exterminated, and now they're saying goodbye :s It feels like now more than ever is the perfect time for them to do what they'd understood they should be doing for the world and helping people.
Alternatively, choosing new gods/passing the baton onto someone to help. Choosing your own fate is great and all, but with many people being faith-based (something I don't see as a bad thing - but I'm polytheistic irl) it would have felt better. I would have really enjoyed this option, it could have started a new era and still upheld the faith of the people of Etheirys. To include the tribal deities as well, as opposed to just strictly putting down peoples' primals.
Anyhow. Endwalker had its ups and downs to me. I don't hate it, it was the first expansion I played through with everyone else, after all. Ultima Thule was interesting, I wish we saw more of it. Hated Garlemald at first, but then the sidequests and RP with my friend really opened my eyes and showed me far more nuance with them in general, which was neat. The ending boss was lackluster, and I thought Zodiark was being built to be a WAY bigger threat than he was.
I know it's trendy to hate on Endwalker, and that's not what I'm trying to do. I'm just sharing my thoughts on why the postpatch story felt really off and disappointing to me. I left WoW Shadowlands because of the horrible, abysmal lore. I really hope FFXIV doesn't take that path, and Dawntrail is treated better.
We're going into it with some rushed, 'tied up loose ends' and a favorite part of the game for me with much intrigue (the void) essentially 'to be fixed fine and dandy' or something. I dunno... it just... meh. It does remind me of my disappointment with Shadowlands, and just how horrible that was fucked up, but not as badly, at least.
FFXIV has the benefit of housing for RP though, and me and my RP partner taking our own paths in the story with super intricate plotlines, so there is that. A lot of the side quest content has been phenomenal even if MSQ has let me down bigtime lately. I still love this game and will be playing it. After all, I need to grind PotD and get my Necromancer title on one of my OCs. That...and grind a bunch of my alts up through EW. I know, I'm a crazy alta-holic.
Oh! I will mention one thing I did like about the postpatch EW story though. The dragon, and Vtra being reunited with his sister. That was pretty neat, I did like that. Super cute, and lovely. Good riddance to Zero who I originally adored and was intrigued by, and who now is just another paladin. Hello to a new dragon friend, I guess.
Edit: Also, I probably am coming across as someone who just 'hates the light'. I don't, and think it can be cool to depict either fire or warmth in the light, and the 'light at the end of the tunnel', but when it's repeated over and over as 'the light will defeat the evil darkness' in common media including beyond FFXIV, it just gets tiresome. Again, I'm coming from WoW, which is another game utterly notorious for doing that. We also see it in D&D. It's a common trope in FFXIV in general and I adore seeing signs that hey, maybe this portion of the story will break it, only to be disappointed.
At least we got to see Sin Eaters as bad in ShB. Hell, I'd even like to see some sin eaters take the lore-route of voidsent - some being good, some being bad. It sucks that there currently isn't any lore for that right now, so in that case, I would like to see some nuance and development there, because it'd be really cool to see variants in that aspect too. Trust me, I wish for the 'I hope the extreme end of this can be good as well' too.

Alright. I’m late but here’s my backlog report for January. How did my first month of 2024 go in terms of games?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a word, rather well.
Trails from Zero:
The first game of the new year that I beat. Would you believe me if I said this whole thing only took me about a week of concentrated play to beat?
Anyways, it’s probably the most solid title in the Trails series so far. As I’ve said before my journey into Trails was a bit screwy, due to only having a Switch and a standard laptop. It was surprising to find that a lot of the good that the series accumulated was actually added in this entry specifically, from attacking enemies on-screen, to bonus experience, to being able to use combo attacks a la Chrono Trigger.
Also, music good.
Star Ocean Second Story R:
I’m a sucker for anything that can blend science fiction and fantasy, which means that this was almost as good as drugs.
The only two negative things I can say about it is that 1.) the music wasn’t really bad, but not what I’d call my favorite, and 2.) I wish that characters had more interaction in Private Actions. I like the Private Action events, but I wish more involved more than the protag and the character in question.
My complaints with First Departure, mainly that the combat felt very barebones and there was no fast travel, have been destroyed here with extreme prejudice. The breaks and sidesteps are fun additions that don’t break the game, and the fast travel system not only gives you easy access, but also notes when and where events are available, so no more cursing yourself for not having the exact timing to recruit a character.
Gunvolt Chronicles 2:
If you liked Mega Man Zero/ZX, chances are you will like or do like this series. I myself have been a fan since the 3DS days.
Unfortunately, while I did enjoy my time with this, I was a little bit disappointed.
In terms of gameplay, Copen no longer feels like Copen. The high-speed human pinball has been grounded and his range has been shortened. While he gets his wings back once the kudos reach a certain threshold, this means that I was constantly cursing my muscle memory, having to remind myself that I only had one air dash and the attack button was no longer a straight shot but a melee saw.
In terms of story, while I like a few of the ideas and the new character of Null, I found it hard to truly get invested. None of Gunvolt Chronicles 1’s supporting cast is present aside from Kohaku, and we frankly don’t spend enough time with Null or Ypsilon for them to be compelling. Also ‘character falls into portal because reasons!’ is a trope I hate. They explain it eventually, but it’s just the perfect encapsulation of how break-neck fast this story moves. Prologue movie where characters get isekai’d, short two-sentence long introduction to Null, and Bam! Months long time-skip.
I feel like Inti-creates and I just have different opinions on the Gunvolt series’ identity, but that’s a discussion for an entirely separate time. I make these reports to have fun, not to vent.
Final Fantasy IV (DS version):
Would you believe me if I said this one took half the month?
Anyways, I first encountered this game on the Wii’s Virtual Console shop, back in the good old days of owning your own retro software. Being a kid of average intelligence, it completely escaped me that you could save on the overworld, which meant that despite trying to get into it a few times, FFIV was the first game to be booted when I needed memory space.
A few years back I finally got my hands on a copy of the DS remake with 3D models and voice acting by the likes of Yuri Lowenthal. And it rocked.
I think the augment system is undercooked, but that is the only complaint I can think of, because the music, the story, and the gameplay are all great! Let me put it to you this way: FFIV’s active time battle system was so good that they used it for five more games straight, and borrowed from it heavily for 12.
I know that the Crystal Remasters have come out and gained notoriety, but I still prefer this version because of the solid voice cast, fun art direction, and balanced yet challenging difficulty.

i just genuinely love that final fantasy is so old as a franchise that 2 fans can get into it with the same entry but it’s 2 different versions of it from 2 different generations. And still go just as mad for it.
was chatting with someone on the bird site who also came in with FFIV and got Obsessed playing it over and over and fell in love with the franchise. but for them it was the DS remake. For me it was the original SNES one, and I had rented it from Blockbuster over and over 😂

Rydia and Feminism
Spoiler Warning: All of Final Fantasy IV Content Warning: Mention of sexual assault in "Feminism and Final Fantasy (Part Two)"
I played through Final Fantasy IV after one of my friends wrote fanfiction of it and really came to appreciate Rydia’s character on a deeper level. She definitely is my favorite character from the game hands down but I don’t think her characterization and role within FFIV is appreciated enough.
As many FFIV fans would say, Rydia is one of the best written characters in the game next to Cecil, the main character, and fan votes still show her prominence in the community despite being from a game that’s around 30 years old. Seeing as IGN’s most popular character from each Final Fantasy game has Rydia listed as the most popular character in FFIV and the NHK “All Final Fantasy Big Vote” listed Rydia as still in the top 40, Rydia is very clearly still a fan favorite within the game, with one of those fans being me.
There has been a lot of discourse surrounding Rydia’s role within the story, yet I feel as though “Feminism and Final Fantasy (Part Two)” succinctly encapsulates the best and worst parts of Rydia’s character. Linked is a text version of the original article, excluding the pornographic images. Though Rydia’s downsides are indeed glaring as noted by the article, many of her heroic traits aren’t highlighted enough. For one, Rydia has far more agency than one may initially suspect; not only is Rydia the only character to actively seek out the party rather than be stumbled up, she also is the only character like Cecil to change their class part way through the story. Akin to Cecil, Rydia also is part of a greater narrative involving forces beyond her control, namely Leviathan, Asura, and Bahamut, making her on par and often greater than Cecil. As best surmised by Kathryn in her feminism article, Rydia’s place in the story is “not an object but rather a subject,” which rings true for her characterization. As a character, Rydia’s importance cannot be understated, she’s given the same agency, strength, and importance as Cecil is given, a major bonus compared to other female characters that are used more as plot devices rather than characters.
It should also be mentioned that Rydia is more than just a well written character, she’s a very well written woman as well. Within the same game, Rosa is given the treatment of being a damsel in distress and more or less relegated to only being a supportive character with relatively little character development. While Kathryn has a negative perception of Rosa as mostly useless in combat and only a love interest in the story, others such as Hayley Garden in her article “Pushing Boundaries with Female Characters” will note that Rosa still has depth as a character even if the writing tropes used to develop her are outdated. Though the two articles may differ on opinions, they both generally agree Rydia is progressively written while Rosa is at least somewhat outdated. These both come from fans of the game and these sentiments are held by a fair number of the fanbase.
In the much broader context of women in Final Fantasy, Rydia and Rosa are the two most important because they were essentially the first women in Final Fantasy. Prior to FFIV, characters had suggested names and little development, but FFIV changed this formula by giving hard characterization and traits; it was no longer a faceless playable character but now a character that had a name, ambitions, and personality. Rydia and Rosa didn’t just push the boundaries for what women in Final Fantasy IV were, they set the bar for it as being the first playable female characters.
Context in mind, Rydia’s characterization can only be lauded for being progressive when compared to Rosa’s at least somewhat outdated writing. Fans far preferred a character like Rydia over Rosa and still do, seeing as Rosa ranks around 150th most popular while Rydia is top 40. Rydia as a whole is not without flaw; she’s overtly sexualized as pointed out by Kathryn which is an unfortunate trend within Final Fantasy’s female designs. Later entries in Final Fantasy would see even better women such as Aerith and Tifa who are both well written and well designed clocking consistently make top ten lists. Though Rydia is nowhere near the level of Aerith or Tifa, in part because of the gameplay and story limitations related to retro consoles and their memory, Rydia was the first step in a long legacy of Final Fantasy’s cast of female characters.
Of course, I myself am quite biased towards Rydia seeing as she is my favorite character, but her importance in Final Fantasy IV and the franchise itself shouldn’t go unnoticed. Her characterization and importance are matched only by Cecil in her respective game, but setting the trend of having progressive female characters within Final Fantasy is something that deserves greater attention and appreciation.

6.2 MSQ ramblings by your local Golbez fan
Partner and I finished the entire thing in one sitting last night. Here's my thoughts now that I'm more awake, in vaguely chronological order...
(Tl;dr more FFIV callbacks than you can shake a spoony bard at!)
Varsahn getting a new adult mammet body is a brilliant way to reference Rydia's return as an adult without having to actually use a child character for the role or doing some kind of timey bullshit.
Troia is brilliant. I was losing my mind over the music the entire time...
Speaking of Troia, let's get this out of the way because I've been obnoxious about it on Twitter, Discord, and in-game: HI MY IRL NAME IS BEATRICE. It's me. I feel so seen as a big FFIV fan. Thank you whichever dev did this.
of course, the choice of name isn't really because of random FFIV fans like me. Beatrice is obviously an extension of the Dante's Inferno theme that begins with the Archfiends.
Also, the creepy statues jumpscared me!
Beatrice's mechanics are a nice mixup of the gaze mechanic, otherwise nothing too new here.
So many empty rooms breaking up pulls. Why???
Scarmiglione...I was too distracted by his voice. He sounds like Fandaniel. Maybe if it was just a slight raspier it would've worked better for me.
that said, I adore how hectic his fight is, even though I was constantly expecting the "back attack" during the dungeon. Of course, the back attack happens later instead.
Using Troia as a somewhat explorable zone of course makes the empty rooms make more sense. This part is a lot of back and forth and even with mounts it's kind of tedious, but all the voidsent lore is worth it.
The voidsent talks remind me of Megaten demons by the way. Voidsent Summoning Program when?
That feeling of going back through the dungeon and talking to previously hostile NPCs—it reminds me a lot of old school RPGs! It's definitely something that's been a little missing from XIV imo.
Zero. I love her. I love that she operates on a different morality and value system from the usual sort of person the (ex-)Scions deal with, and she isn't going to give that up just because we've been nice to her. Of course, there is some compromising on her part, but she's very solidly set in the ways of the Void.
also: she's a tease for Zeromus. Now, I don't think she will be Zeromus, or that he will necessarily even appear, but if not foreshadowing, her name is the devs teasing those "in the know".
Zero's Domain! It was here I said out loud "wow, that's quality patch" because adding in another location after the dungeon feels big. It's appropriate for the Thirteenth and I hope going forward we'll be able to come back freely and use it as a base of operations.
AND THE MUSIC ITS THE FFIV OVERWORLD THEME I started tearing up a little.
Sad gay Voidsent relationship lore :(
Speaking with the Voidsent around Zero's Domain leads to some fun dialogue btw, my favorite is the Mindflayer kinkshaming a summoner that tied his vessel up.
ok. Barbariccia. I was unfortunately spoiled by crafting recipes (AGAIN) that she would be the trial and not Cagnazzo. I really like the way she's written, and once she appears in person, there's not much of the fanservice you might expect. Instead she has some power poses. Imo that's kinda sexier.
Her design—and Milon's—visually are...I guess pretty much what I should have expected of XIV's style of monster/character design and detail.
Now, as soon as Barb said she was next, I told my partner "I hope Estinien gets some spicy dialogue with her." Ok small tangent time. I personally think Zephirin was the Kain analogue in Heavensward in terms of his backstory and development, but hey I'm not going to deny that Estinien is the one with the "Dragoon who 'betrayed' you" job arc.
AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW ESTINIEN GETS THE SPICY DIALOGUE. And not just any spicy dialogue, he gets to fucking quote Kain Highwind verbatim. Good job, Estinien. "Ride the wind" indeed.
AND THE TRIAL THOUGH. Absolutely bonkers. I only died once because Phys Ranged Movement Privilege but holy shit the mechanics spam. I love the intensity. I was expecting Calofisteri mechanics but nope it's just insanity instead.
Her phase change is a pretty cool way to handle the "wrapped in hair" aspect of her and translating that into something you can still fight.
They did a good job not making her Calofisteri 2.0 or Garuda 3.0 basically.
I think everyone basically assumes Azdaja will be Shadow Dragon, and I'm very interested in how that's going.
So IMO the segments after returning to the Source drag on a fair bit and just keeps going. But this was also bc it was 1 AM for me.
Golbez!! GOLBEZ.
His voice. I like it. It's really hard to top Peter Beckman's iconic performance for Golbez, but his VA here does a good job with this take of the character.
AND WHAT IS YOUR BACKSTORY. GIVE ME THE GOLBEZ LORE. What is his ambition???
It is very refreshing to see Golbez back in his classic villain role though! And he brings a more militant theme too—we're dealing with his minions and their minions, not with him directly like with most of the other antagonists.
Memoria lore will be relevant for Golbez right? INB4 he's Zero's brother hahaha...wait I like this
I have to admit, this is the first patch in a while I've been honest to god this excited and manic about the MSQ. I was so afraid of the FFIV handling going poorly, but they did a great job in keeping it fresh.
Now I'm going to Island Sanctuary.
...Void Sanctuary when?

FFIV fans, hearken unto my half-kidding "Fusoya is kind of an asshole" propaganda:
•dunno if he could leave the moon or what sort of watcher rules he has to follow as a Lunarian, but KluYa broke the rules, which means Fusoya can too, even if it's a one-way trip
•did not take that trip to help his child nephews
•did not tell Cecil about his brother and give him a chance to process . . . That and be ready to support Golbez after freeing his mind
•booked it right the hell out of the Giant leaving us to ??? fucken' die? Golbez I understand making a hasty decision in the moment ("HOLY SHIT WJAT HAVE I DONE") but the Giant being Lunarian tech I think Fusoya could have known it was going to collapse
•never once thought to wake up another Lunarian?
•needs human help to save his own bacon and then has the audacity to say "wow humans are pretty cool! maybe one day they'll be as cool as us lunarians"
•doesn't want to hang around at the end like "what are you going to do now?" is a polite way to say "why are you still here on the moon and keeping me from my nap?" c'mon hang out with your nephews some more dude
•has to remind himself Golbez is a Lunarian too like that wouldn't be constantly rolling through my head if i were fusoya like "oh my god kluya's babies don't know anything i have to teach them how to be proper moon men"
•the moon? DISAPPEARS? from orbit? fusoya was the only one who would know how to do that! yeah golbez wanted to isolate himself, but it's the MOON? and yeah they didn't want to repeat the zemus corruption problem, but that coeurl is out of the bag
bahamut and his two attendants watching earth and the eidolons that worship him disappear into the distance: 🫡

also 001 final fantersy 003 sabin even if i know neither :)
FINAL FANTASY
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: *RUBS MY HANDS TOGETHER* sabin, freya, cloud, ignis, bartz, faris, minwu, tidus, auron, kain, aymeric 🫡 im playing ffviii rn and i also like laguna and seifer. honourable mention for my bff gilgamesh too
Least Favorite character: estinien from ffxiv.... he's annoying sorry LMAO, i'm hoping he gets better later. i cant really think of anyone else. edge ffiv was a disappointment but im hoping he's better in the after years
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): faris/bartz(fartz lol), cyan/sabin, edgar/setzer ... actually i dont have many ships, yuna/tidus gladio/ignis prompto/noctis cloud/zack are a given. i also don't particularly ship them but i do like the canon pairings :]
Character I find most attractive: Auron.....
Character I would marry: oh man idk. maybe sabin he'd be great
Character I would be best friends with: TIDUS YOU AND ME LET'S BE BESTIES. or sabin again he's great :)
a random thought: im not far enough into ffxiv to know whether yoshi-p's writing is truly fantastic but i think his obsession with realism & realistic battle system etc. wrt XVI is a bit strange. im still gonna play the game but ?
An unpopular opinion: I HATED FFXIV ARR so much. i know it's not an unpopular opinion but it took forever to get into ffxiv that i was genuinely concerned i wasnt going to like it. if you want to play the game just get the free trial. also the way people treat tifa wrt cloud makes me feel insane
My Canon OTP: not exactly an otp but tidus and yuna are SO cute :[ i do also like celes and locke a LOT though
My Non-canon OTP: FARTZ!!! and cybin :]
Most Badass Character: IGNIS!!!!!! episode ignis makes me feel insane. i actually didn't care that much for him until after i played the game and was like wait hes actually amazing
Most Epic Villain: as for EPIC its gotta be kefka for sure. he has the best OST and best fight for sure. i also LOVE kuja and ardyn but theyre not particularly "epic" i think
Pairing I am not a fan of: cloud/sephiroth, terra/anyone(except maybe celes..), ignis/noctis(though it might be growing on me? shrug)
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): i could write an essay about ffxv. lunafreya deserved more screentime & from what i read what they had in mind for her was REALLY interesting and im excited to read her chapter in the novel. gladio was a bit better in episode gladiolus than the actual game... but he wasnt awful either. also, not FF, but all of the kingdom hearts portrayals of all the ff characters is HORRIBLE.
Favourite Friendship: i know yuna and tidus are a couple but they're ADORABLE friends too :[ i love them together. also prompto and noctis! zack and cloud are cute too
Character I most identify with: ohhh *scratching my head* maybe faris! with his whole thing LOL
Character I wish I could be: I NEED TO LOOK LIKE SABIN IRL 👍
SABIN RENÉ FIGARO
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you:
How I feel about this character: HES MY ALLTIME FAVOURITE FF CHARACTER all the characters in ffvi are so good but i just looove sabin and it doesn't help that soraya saga put so much love into writing him and edgar LOL
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: cyan of course... i've also seen people shipping him with vargas which is good too but i haven't thought that much about their dynamic
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: EDGAR OF COURSE their whole thing makes me. grrr. GRRR. how horrified was sabin to find out his brother formed an allyship with the very people who murdered their family. yet they were so happy to see each other once again when they reunited :[ i miss them. also edgar trying to convince his TWIN brother that he was a completely different person was hilarious. aside from him GAU!! sabin's dedication to encouraging him to reunite with his father because he couldn't have the same thing for himself & yet it was never possible grrrr. Grrrrrrr. also i think they're just hilarious LOL. despite that he doesn't exactly interact with the other characters but imagining anything with all the other FFVI cast is really fun. i really like the one DFFOO story where shelke and llyud asked sabin about edgar and he basically encouraged them to host a lengthy investigation on him all day long LMAO.
now i want to rp...
My unpopular opinion about this character: HE LOOKS BETTER WITH THE BEARD
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: in general i wish we got more content in ffvi! i wish we'd get a proper remake! or even a novel or something! if ffvi got the ffvii treatment we'd get so much more content on all the characters :[
Favorite friendship for this character: OK so i heard he's friends or acquaintances at least with shadow... but.......... i killed shadow before the WOR and i havent wanted to look up his cutscenes before my replay so i haven't thought about his relationship with him past the phantom train.... i guess favourite friendship would have to be with his brother LMFAO.
My crossover ship: none! still playing DFFOO though so maybe something will crop up 🤔

I recently beat Final Fantasy VII: ReMake and I have thoughts!
For a game like this context of the speaker’s experience is important. I grew up a fan of FFIV and FFX. I played FFVII once while sick and did not get far. I have since played bits of FFI, FFIII, FFV, FFVI, and FFXV. The music of the series is near and dear to my heart, and after beating the game I picked up the original FFVII and have just beat the Midgar sequence, where the remake ends.
If you’re on the fence on playing this game and would rather not be spoiled I recommend playing it! Its a mixed bag of an experience but its one I’d recommend from a cultural/historical/entertainment perspective. It isn’t the best game ever, but its a heartfelt AAA production. For those who read further there will be spoilers.
Tumblr media
Final Fantasy VII: ReMake is a mixed bag where its high points are incredibly high but its low points are incredibly low. It has a fantastic soundtrack, the main characters are stunningly animated, and its main boss fights are all fantastic showstopping sequences that at its strongest points blend story and boss fight together. It also had dreadfully pace breaking side quest hubs filled with PS3 era characters asking you to do tasks that feel like dragging nails down a chalkboard. It has my favorite and least favorite sequences in gaming all in one.
Tumblr media
FFVII: ReMake’s strengths come in its ability to spend more time with its characters and more properly stage the game’s more dramatic events. A fantastic example of this is the plate drop scenario, where Shinra drops a large chunk of the city to frame Avalanche. In the original game just after the Airbuster some turks approach Aerith in the church and you toss barrels at them. Then later when the plate drops you fight a named turk Reno. FFVII ReMake is able to use this foresight and gives you a lovely multistage boss with Reno in the church so Cloud and the player have an antagonistic relationship with him so when you encounter him atop the pillar there’s a reason the track is called “Rematch atop the Pillar”. Now you have this cinematic, story motivated battle where Cloud and Tifa juggle Reno as Barret keeps Rude’s chopper off your back. Its an incredibly well done sequence.
Tumblr media
The game’s actual gameplay is closer to something like Kingdom Hearts. It used the Active Time Battle or ATB system. To charge ATB you have to get aggressive and attack with Square and/or Triangle. Once you have an ATB charge you can use an action: ability, spell, item, etc. Use these to stagger your enemies and make them susceptible to the Pressured status. Inflict Pressured to make them take more damage. Use a limit on a pressured enemy to feel absolutely disgusting. Its a good, high stakes system! I would also totally understand where players may feel frustrated getting TPKO’d while trying to charge ATB for a heal. It isn’t a perfect system, but its one I find fascinating. Thats likely because of my experience with Final Fantasy games and patience with ATB. You use the D Pad to skip between party members so if one gets cornered you skip to a new party member and boom you’re flanking.
Tumblr media
Many bosses are now 10-20min productions and I love them. They’re showy with bombastic scores and dramatic movesets. The Jenova Quickening boss stands out in my mind as an example of what makes this game good: you fight through various stages of the boss as the score slowly puts together the Jenova theme and the last phases pitches all the previous phases together under the completed Jenova theme and its absolutely wild. The Scorpion Sentinel, Airbuster, Valkyrie, Ghoul, Reno and Rude, Hell House, Jenova Quickening, Rufus, and Sephiroth fights are top tier, A+ stuff for what this game has to offer.
Tumblr media
This game is a mixed bag bc as I love these boss fights I also loathe the sidequest hubs. They always break the game’s pacing and deflated my interest in the game each time. I highly recommend checking sidequest rewards for what you want and skipping the rest. The game also takes about 25% too long everywhere. Cutscenes, dungeons, combat, all of it overstays its welcome by about 25% leading to some serious pacing issues. For a game taking its time to spend time with characters its odd how much of that time isn’t used so.
Tumblr media
All that aside, I did greatly enjoy the FFVII: ReMake, I will play its DLC, and I will play the next installment. You can probably see by what I highlight and what I don’t talk about as strengths and weaknesses of the game. The Honeybee Inn segment was a fucking delight, the boss fights kept me on the edge of my seat, and the soundtrack is something I now regularly listen to. If you’re able to give this game a shot I recommend it! Its a well meaning even if flawed game I think is worth your time.

Another get to know me!
Tagged by the ever amazing @seiya-starsniper I love these! Thank you!
Who was your first fictional crush?
Edge from FFIV (originally FFII for SNES). Remember when games came with a booklet and a character description? Edge's was mysterious. A ninja? Cool! He's a bratty prince? Even better! *When my father played through this game, he renamed Edge with my name, it was meant to be.*
What is the first colour you think of when I tell you to think of a colour?
Emerald green
Which fanfiction emotionally scarred you and still makes you shudder to this day?
I can't think of any, to be honest. I'm sure I've read a few, but nothing with the "Dead Dove" tag. I'm down to read most of any kind of fic, but I'm not a big fan of MC x Reader, or a heavy reliance of your OC being the focus.
I'm coming to your house for dinner, non-negotiable, what are you making me?
This could go places: chicken tenders (regular or vegetarian, im flexible like that) and fries, or something warm and hearty like a huge pasta dish. Do you like grilled cheese sandwiches? We could do that also. What I feed you depends on your preference and the weather (the weather here is a damn yoyo).
Do you prefer lions or kangaroos?
Kangaroos! They beat the heat by licking their arms, so when I get too warm, I keep my arms cool and wet, too. Ever see a lion do that? I don't think so (idk if they do or not). 🦘
Which fictional villain do you brush past the glaringly obvious issue for because you really like them?
Most of them, but some noteworthy ones are Zant from LOZ TP, Silco from Arcane, Ardyn from FFXV, Sephiroth from FFVII, and too many more to list. Some of them are hot, okay? Okay.
What would accompany your picture in the Burn Book in Mean Girls?
Ugly crier.
How many days would you last in the universe of your favourite fandom?
LOZ & FFVII, XV, & XVI: I see myself as an NPC, so honestly, a glass canon. NPCs can have tragic ends, or rise above all the odds. I think I'll be okay.
Sandman: if ol Morpheus is around with Delirium looking for Destruction, I'm going to run away as fast as I can.
I might be okay, but then again, maybe not.
Have you heard of Mischief Theatre?
Nope 💁🏼‍♀️
Do you feel sorry for Medusa?
Yes, and no.
Yes, cuz as cool as it would be to turn any living thing into stone, it would be a lonely existence.
No, cuz I honestly don't know too much about her besides she is, in my mind, a beautiful creature.
What if a blind person gets the hard stare from her? Would they still turn to stone? Serious answers only 😂
Which song makes you think of your OTP?
Eculid or Rain by Sleep Token. When I do my cross stitch (of Dream of the Endless), I imagine Hob making that as a token for Dream, and that song is playing softly in the background. Vessel's voice is haunting and beautiful, perfect for the two idiots in love.
Which song makes you disassociate and daydream the fastest?
MacDougall's Pride by Ashley MacIssacc. Every time I hear it, I weep. It's so special to me.
Tagging: @sans--seraph @z-is-very-tired @zzoomacroom @missmacfire @persbaderse @jceekay @aquilathefighter and anyone else that would love to join in!

what is your general recommended version of FFIV in this modern day? (I heard there was one version with voice acting which can be cool if done well)
Unfortunately, I don't have a simple answer for this. I think I own five versions of this game and they all have pros and cons:
(I'm talking about the North American versions of all of these, for clarity)
SNES (i.e. "Final Fantasy II") : some gameplay elements were eliminated or simplified and the translation is pretty stilted for both space and censorship reasons. I don't really recommend playing this version today, but it was good enough that many people who played it at the time have fond feelings for it and the bard has been spoony ever since.
PS1, GBA, PSP, and Pixel Remaster: The PS1 version is the one I played first and is probably the closest to the original, unadulterated intent of the game that you're going to find in English on an official release. The translation is decent but not great and every 2D, English script of the game going forward is based on the PS1 version, which means some mistakes and oddities are duplicated and/or amplified. This guy is a professional translator and goes into really exhaustive detail on it and some other interesting stuff regarding FFIV. Gameplay is more or less identical across all these versions. I don't feel like you would really go wrong playing any of these versions. So to extent I have a real recommendation here, it's "whichever one of these is most convenient for you." I like the original, chunky early 16bit graphics and those are only fully retained in the PS1 version, but I also really like the look of the PSP version. Pixel remaster has an updated/extended soundtrack that is pretty nice.
3DS, iOS/Android, Steam (2014) versions : These are all the 3D remake. I have mixed feelings about these. On the one hand the voice acting is pretty good and there's a freshly translated script. On the other hand, they wrote it on a very flowery ~*High Fantasy*~ style which imo is sometimes overwrought and amateurish. Combined with the voice acting this can be a turn off, depending on your tolerance for, um, theater. It also plays like a whole different game with some new mechanics and is more difficult than the original game, which is already one of the harder FFs, imo. Also, I'm not a big fan of the look of the 3D graphics. Washed out bobbleheads. Overall, I prefer the 2D versions, but there's some ideas I've retained from this version (Kain has a really deep voice, "eidolons")
Fan translations: I've played the J2E version, which was pretty popular for a a while, and IIRC was available before the PS1 version so it was briefly the best you were going to get in English. It varies from "pretty good" to "written by an edgy teenager who thinks they're funny." It also makes up a few things out of whole cloth that have lingered in the fandom. Kain/Barbariccia, anyone? There are probably other, better fan translations out there now, and that might be the way to go if you want something close to the original experience but with a decent script. But I couldn't recommend or vouch for a specific one.
