Event Info

WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation challenge (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are 31 Official themes this year - one for each day of the month - which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. They are meant to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don't have to include the exact wording into your work). Additionally, there are 3 prompts for each theme. These are optional suggestions and can be used in conjunction with the theme, or as options/alternatives. We want to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible, as well as increase event accessibility for folks with triggers and squicks.

Creators can PRODUCE work in any media they choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, and photo/video/audio edits. Creators can PARTICIPATE as much or as little as they want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.

When uploading Whumptober content to your blog, be sure to tag the with:

PLEASE BE DILIGENT WITH YOUR TAGGING. Only properly tagged posts are considered for archiving on the official @whumptober2020 blog. They must be tagged in the order above.

Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of participants in recent years, we cannot guarantee your work will be archived. A random selection of properly tagged posts from all genres will be reblogged each day.

Whumpers who produce content for 31 total theme days are considered event completionists and will be tagged in a masterpost at the end of the month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What kind of content can I make? Can it be NSFW?

This is a MIXED MEDIA event! You can write fic, post meta, doodle or paint, create a gif set or photo edit, link a song, or get crafty with video - anything goes. As for NSFW, make what you like, we just hope that you’ll tag your work accordingly so that others participating in the event can stay safe :)

Q. Do I have to do all 31 Days? Can I post early/late?

Participate as much or little as you like, and post whenever! Just be sure to tag your posts properly (ex. #no.11, #psych101). Combining prompts into one piece of work is okay, and posting late is as well so as long as it’s in October.

Q. What if I don’t understand a theme?

Send us an ask! We’re happy to help clarify. That said, the themes are entirely up for interpretation :)

Q. Can I combine Whumptober with other creation challenges?

Absolutely! That’s like shooting two whumpees with one bullet :)

Q. Can I upload/repost my whumptober content to other social media platforms?

Of course! We’ve created an AO3 Collection to archive any fics posted there. The archive can be accessed here. The blog is the official archive, so please respect the boundaries of any closeted whumpers in your social circle :)

Q. Can I use prompts to write a new chapter for an existing fic?

Yes

Q. An existing fic I am currently writing contains many of the Whumptober prompts, can I use it?

If you are actively writing this fic at the moment with the whumptober prompts in mind, yes. If it just conveniently checks the boxes, then please don’t. You can, however, add new chapters answering one or more of the prompts.

Q. What kind of characters can I write for?

Fandom characters, OC characters, human, furry, alien, cyborg, whoever you like.

Q. Can I use a prompt multiple times?

Yes, but it only counts once

Q. If I’m not comfortable with one day's prompts can I use a prompt of a different day as a substitute and still be a completionist?

Yes, but please do not use a specific prompt twice. We have also created an alternate prompts list that you can draw from [here].

Q. Where can I post my work?

Post where and how you want. You don’t even have to (cross)post it to Tumblr. Just keep in mind if it’s not on Tumblr we will not be able to add it to the blog archive.

Q. Can I start posting early?

You can, but this is an October event and wouldn’t it be more fun with everyone doing it at the same time? That being said, you can post early, but we won’t be reblogging any work predating October 1st.

Q. Do I have to finish a fic I started/can I post WIP’s.?

Yes you can post WIPs. And you’re not obligated to finish it in October for it to count towards being a completionist.

Q. Is co-writing allowed?

Yes, absolutely, and it would count towards being a completionist for both/all of you :)

Q. Do I have to create 31 standalone pieces to be considered a completionist or can I write one continuous story?

One continuous story is fine. The challenge is to write something for 31 prompts. If that’s spread over 31 fics or just one, you are still considered a completionist. (The same goes for every other media you choose.)

Q. Is there a min/max limit on word count?

There is no limit

Q. Can I combine prompts? Is there a limit on how many?

No limit and combine as many as you’d like.

Q. Is a hc/angst focus ok?

Q. My interpretation of the prompt isn't whumpy at all, does that count?

No, sorry, but keep in mind that whump [see definition] is something very nuanced and different for everyone and emotional whump/angst is just as much part of it, as is physical whump and torture. So before you dismiss your idea, think about this.

Q. Can I start working on the prompts before October?

Absolutely! That’s why we posted the prompts a month in advance. We recognise how difficult it can be creating for 31 days in “real time”.

Q. How do I tag triggers?

Q. Do I have to use your tags?

Yes, if you want your work archived on the blog. If not, feel free to use whatever tags you want.

Q. Does combining prompts count towards completion?

Yes

Yes but we mostly rely on the whumptober2020 tag

Q. Is there anything we are absolutely not allowed to write?

There are no rules, just be sure to properly tag your trigger warnings. And keep in mind Tumblr’s policies if you are posting it here (or the policies of whatever site you use).

Yes, but as with everything else, tags are your best friend.

Q. Can I cross post on other blogs?

Fic Writer Game

YAY

tagging: uh... anyone who hasn’t done this yet? @alxndrlightwoods, @beamirang @elfyourmother @gingersnapwolves @janoda (I randomly picked letters and let tumblr mention people on its own, PLEASe don’t take this too seriously... 🙃😅) PLEASE DO THIS IF YOU’RE REMOTELY SO INCLINED, even if I haven’t tagged you, AND THEN BLAME ME, I love seeing these things.

Fandoms: BioWare, historically, a pretty even mix in my head of Dragon Age & Mass Effect but clearly I mostly managed to write for DA2. Currently, mostly Shadowhunters, though I’m working on an Inception crossover and I dabble in a lot of things... mostly still video games tho, there’s just something about the framework of a good RPG protagonist just waiting to be filled in. #7kpp and Code: Realize and Cinders! Some day maybe I’ll finally do something with Jade Empire since it’s my favorite...

I write a lot of random prompt-fills & yuletide randomness, just a few little stories for fandoms I never really got lost it but still enjoy, like a Georgette Heyer regency epilogue and a Firefly/Serenity thing because I will apparently never be over Zoe/Wash ever.

Number of fics: A lot of my fic is ficlet collections, so I’m not sure how you want to count this, (and I’ve lost a decent number of things over the years too, whoops), especially since a couple of my “fics” on AO3 are actually fanmixes that I put on there so they’d link properly to the fics they accompany, and there’s a collab that’s not just me, but uh... depending on the math, anywhere from 145 to 500-ish? (AO3 says I have 152 published.)

Fic I spent more time on: I start a lot of fic and then may literally let it lay dormant for years... I’m not necessarily working on it all that time though. SO uh. Cruel Intentions sat for five years between the kink-meme prompt that started it all and me finally writing a conclusion? *shrugs* IDK.

Fic I spent less time on: A lot of the ficlets are just sort of dashed off whenever I managed to get inspiration. In terms of a proper fic I’d have to say Impossible kind of wrote itself in one or two sittings. (priest!kink is clearly something I should indulge in more often 😅)

Longest fic: The 3-Shepards Collab (on borderline permanent hiatus? we may get back to it some day) Persephone Rising at almost 200k words. In terms of “I actually wrote the whole damn thing” we’ve got Lost for Words at just over 62k. (Yay Mass Effect?)

Shortest: erm. I write a lot of like, 3sentence prompt fic and everything? But in terms of: stands alone as posted, it is apparently... Fools, about Brosca & Leske in DA:O. 😭

Most hits/Most kudos/Most bookmarks: ALL FOR i am for you (14871, 868, and 282, respectively)

In second place for hits is I like the thrill of under me you (because porn usually does get more hits and less of everything else), for kudos & bookmarks it’s two are halves of one. Because SH fandom likes fluff to counteract the melodrama of canon? Only maybe not since next is the one where I kill Alec and everyone’s sad... SH fandom likes fluff and Magnus whump disguised as torturing Alec? We’re apparently all terrible people.

Total words combined: published, I have 1,088,995 words on AO3!

Which obviously doesn’t count all the bits and bobs that never made it there and all the WIPs that I’m trying to finish before I start posting again. I don’t have the faintest idea how to figure that number out tho 😅

Fic you want to rewrite or expand: Generally, if it made it to AO3 I at least enjoyed writing it, and even if I wouldn’t write it the same way now, I had fun then, so I seldom re-do things. (With a notable exception of the one introducing Theia Hawke (and killing her) which I rewrote to have less sex and more manipulation to fit all the stuff I wrote later... and retitled to fit all the rest of it better, too. I didn’t think she’d get so much fic when I started with her dying. Shows what I know.)

That said! If we’re expanding, I would really like to write sequels/continuations to several things, most notably Regency/Persuasion Malec, mer!alec, The Forest That (sometimes) Eats People (but is mostly very nice once you get to know it) & how do you recover from dying aka the s3 canon divergence fic for Shadowhunters.

Fav fic you wrote: erm. That’s an impossible question, and I’d give you a different answer almost every day.

Today uh... warm as silk because the #7kpp discord was talking about Code: Realize yesterday, and it’s very soft and pretty and I almost didn’t write it but then I finally managed it, and that’s always an excellent feeling.

Alec's expression when he looks at Magnus is sublime, it's like he's smiling all the way to his fingertips, and she has to look away.

OR, I may even finish that one lingering DA2 WIP from a million years ago...

Adelaide woke, held in place by the comforting weight of Sebastian's arm draped over her. She kept her eyes closed and breathed in the faint whisper of incense that never quite faded from his skin and hair, and settled herself just the tiniest bit closer, felt his arm tighten a little, even in his sleep, to keep her there.

40 Questions — Meme for Fic Writers.

Thank you to @soniabigcheese @gumnut-logic @onereyofstarlight and Anon for the ASKS you sent my way. Since I wanted to answer in detail, I’ve had more than 1 question, and I’ve not had a lot of spare time today I thought I’d answer all in this one post…

So first up @soniabigcheese sent me: ‘How about ... 9 ... 15 and 19? Please.’

9: Which fic has been the hardest to write?

All have been challenging in their own individual ways. Yet, really thinking about it I’d have to say GONE. For various reasons – It was my first Thunderbirds Fanfic, the longest story I had ever written, at this point the one I’ve had to do the most planning and research, and finally because of the emotions that needed portraying. However, the elation at finally finishing the story was amazing and has certainly inspired me to continue.

15: If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

Oh my God, that would be amazing! I would definitely have to go for Bad Day (Virgil’s day keeps repeating. What will it take for it to end and a new one to begin?) I had so much fun writing this, it’s one that I’ve reread a few times since competing, and it still makes me giggle. I’m sure I’d be in stitches if I got to watch it on the big screen. Although due to some of the contents towards the final chapters it would definitely need a UK PG or 12A rating.

19: Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

For Thunderbirds fanfiction my muse is definitely Virgil, The-Virg, It’s definitely his creativity and those eyes, plus that mouth, also those eyebrows, and his muscles… Sorry getting distracted – Actually, thinking about it, Virgil’s more of a distraction than a muse. Especially with my new mobile screensaver which I keep staring at.

Okay, back to the question. I don’t think I’ve got a muse – just a little voice in my head that won’t shut up when I have a story idea until I’ve written it down.

1: Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

I always seem to revert to the family dynamics rather than a full-on rescue story (which is probably why I’m struggling with two of my fics which need to have rescue bits written in) Basically, I love to go deeper into the descriptions of the physical/emotional whump, and how the family deal with the situation (hidden feelings, tempers, how they bond) during and afterwards.

12: Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

Yes, for both TOS and TAG.

The original series: There’s a few – Terror In New York City (Yep, the beginning in particular) The Perils of Penelope, Sun Probe, The Uninvited, Edge Of Impact. After thinking long and hard to narrow it down I’d have to say that while Terror In New York’s my favourite. The Perils of Penelope inspired my naughty fic The Night of Anderbad (Penelope & Virgil pairing) plus the idea of Virgil having a secret crush on her in later chapters of The Tracy Family and a few other one of fics.

TAG: There are a few earlier ones which have inspired fics – Grandma Tourismo, Flame Out, Hyperspeed, SOS pt. 2, Signals pt. 1, Upside Down. There are probably others and these last few episodes have been really inspiring. However, I think I would definitely have to go for the more recent SOS Pt 1 & 2 and Signals Pt 1 & 2. (I’m sure the finale of Season 3 may change this answer)

Yes, I would like to have a go at Were Virgil at some point. Also, would like to try doing the boys ages differently to see how the dynamics changed – Alan as the eldest, next in line is Gordon, then Scott in the middle with John then Virgil as the youngest.

Lol, I have a few so this could take a while :D

I will start with ones that I’ve posted on FF.Net & A03 (Probably also shared them here at some point.

1. Avalanche: TAG.

This story began as a prompt that suggested a story that begins and ends with the same line but the meaning/feeling of the line changes. I started it with the intention of writing just 1 chapter …hahaha… of course I ended the story on a cliff-hanger and couldn’t leave it there, so it’s been continued and I’m so glad I did because I personally feel it is nearing the top of my best written list. The story itself is set when the boys are just children and focuses on the tragedy of the Avalanche and the emotional repercussions. I’ve just reached chapter 14, and probably have another 2-4 chapters left.

2. Lucille: TAG

Synopsis - A story about the unseen woman who watches over International Rescue."I am a wife, I am a mother, and I am the one who watches over International Rescue, making sure I am there to catch them whenever they fall. My name is Lucille Tracy and this, well this is my story!"

A story told through the eyes of the boy’s mother. This is one that I keep stopping and starting, most likely because I hadn’t planned it out. It’s currently on-hold until I finish some others, but I will complete it.

3. The Games: AU - Thunderbirds Are Go mixed with the concept of the Hunger Games. (Although, only Thunderbirds characters will make an appearance)

Here’s my synopsis - Climate change, famine, war. In the end another major war lead to the richest creating the Global Defence Force and 'order' was restored. To celebrate and keep control the Hunger Games were created. This was the 100th games.

The fic started from the Whumptober Prompts and I decided to continue it, wrote half of the 2nd chapter then promptly forgot about it. I’ve recently been looking at this again and have started to reread The Hunger Games for inspiration. However, like Lucille this fic is currently on hold.

4. Virgil Drabbles: TAG.

Started out as a challenge to see how much I could get across in just 100 words. All chapters are based around the lovely Virgil - TAG (but with him being the middle child – started before the Grandma Tourismo episode and apart from a few fics where I write it the other way around I prefer it this way)

The story starts from Virgil’s birth and I’ve now got him attending Denver. I still have a fair few chapters to write but the rest is now all planned out.

5. Reflections: TOS.

Set after Virgil's crash during the Season 1 episode 4 of 'Terror in New York City.' Short reflections from each of the family on nearly losing a brother and son. (Previously Titled, Fallen Brother)

I had always wanted to write something based on my favourite TOS episode. Then Shane Rimmer passed away and this was inspired. Slow updates on this one but I’ve finished telling myself the story just need to edit/rewrite that into something coherent.

And now we’re onto the ones that I may have posted snippets for or just 1 section for on here, but nothing officially posted as yet.

1. Two Untitled Prompts: TAG.

Both prompts were given to me at the end of November and I actually wrote out both (Plotting, thoughts, and telling myself bits of the story) Then December knocked me sideways and my writing suffered. Back to working on these 2 again now and really enjoying them. Without giving to much away, the one features a heart-broken Alan and the other (which with Avalanche is at the top of my pile) features Virgil having a day from hell with added whump.

2. Two Whumptober Fics: TAG.

Posted 1 or 2 chapters for each of these back in October and decided that they could possibly be extended/completed before posting. (All short fics)

The first one is titled Coffee Shot: Virgil gets shot in a café and emotions will run high. Fully planned out but decided to finish some others before I continue working on this.

The second is currently titled Ransom and is set when the guys are children. Scott and Virgil get kidnapped – Only done some basic plotting for this and it’s currently towards the bottom of my WIP pile.

The third is untitled and at the moment my word file is saved under the imaginative title of ‘Virgil Whump’ (Posted 1 snippet that I wrote in 15 mins at the beginning of October then left it because of other projects) In this one the guys are all extremely busy with call-outs and Virgil needs to go to a rescue on his own that involves Fischler. Unfortunately he ends up getting trapped, injured, and because its Fischler left on his own. Fully planned out.

3. Working Title – Shattered Hope. TAG

A story idea that came to me over a year ago, written some short bits, planned out most of the story but because of one small element I need to wait until TAG Season 3 finishes.

‘How had it come to this?’

Just a short time ago they’d been happy, enjoying some rare downtime in the sun, five brothers together. It shouldn’t be like this… With him cradling one brother who was bleeding from a bullet wound after saving the youngest from certain death. The other two close-by. One with a dislocated shoulder, the other with a broken leg, he himself had a stab wound to his arm... All of them with numerous other injuries… Beaten, bloodied, bruised… And praying that someone would rescue them!

Fourth we have anonymous who asked for ’35, 38 and 39.’

35: Would you ever kill off a canon character?

I’ve killed poor Scott off a few times HERE ... HERE and another time as an old man where Virgil also got killed off. (The fic scarred me – But, at the same time I think it’s the best short I’ve written - It’s called White Light if you want to give it a read)

I’ve not killed any of the others yet, and I keep telling myself that I won’t do it again, but it will probably happen again at some point…

39: Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

I’ve had a couple, but they are usually anonymous ones. I normally just delete them and move on because people like that have nothing better to do and are not worth any upset. But if it does affect my confidence then I’ll reread a couple of nicer comments, then when I’m ready I’ll continue writing. I think there was only one that really knocked me for six and that was an anonymous rant on my Bad Day fic because I’d dared to pair up Virgil and Brains. (I’m sure you can imagine the content)

38: Talk about a review that made your day.

Even though 38 comes before 39 I wanted to save this one for last.

Every single comment I’ve ever got. No matter how short or detailed has brought a smile to my face and helped inspire me to continue writing – If I had to single out one then it would actually be a private message that was sent to my Fanfiction.Net inbox. It was over 2 years ago and unfortunately I can’t find the message now but whoever sent it to me said that they’d loved my Fics, in particular Gone which they had read several times and that I was their favourite writer. I was beaming for weeks afterwards.

So, whoever you were thank you - and to all who comment, re-blog, like or kudos my stories. Thank you from the bottom of my heart… Seriously you all make this fandom such a lovely place to be!

Molly knows it’s more complicated than that. This is a beautifully painful fic about John and Sherlock finding each other at the end.

Sherlock’s Head, John’s Heart by Altego (T, 17,252 w. || Tragedy, Heavy Angst, Heavy Bromance, Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Mary is Nice, Friendship) – After Mary dies, John tries to cope, and Sherlock blames himself but tries to make John understand how important John is in his life.

Checkmate to a Castled King by LaSuen (T, 18,290 w. || Friendship, Hurt / Comfort, Sick Sherlock, Heavy Angst) - John dies. Or at least everyone thinks he does.

The dying Doctor by marylouleach (T, 21,168 w. || Hurt/Comfort, Friendship, John Whump) – Doctor Watson is gunned down in a dark alley after work, Sherlock wont rest until he finds the man responsible. Guilt riddles him when he realizes he could have prevented this.

When to Let Go by KendylGirl (M, 22,109 w. || Friends to Lovers, Reverse Reichenbach, Sacrifice, Forgiveness, Angst, Love, Implied Drug Use) – What if it were John who had to die to thwart Moriarty’s plans? 1. Tell us about your WIP!I’m gonna take my favorite original WIP, because I can.One of the galaxies’ best assassins accepts a new job which proves to be way different than she had expected. Her partner moves between exasperated and amused. I imagine this story will be around 50 pages total, so it’s not a big thing. For now my goal is just to actually finish an original project pffft. (Lesbian main couple, pansexual man is second main chara)

2. Where is your favorite place to write?I have two favorite places. One is in my bedroom, where I can just do anything I please. The other is outside when it’s warm on some nice grassy spot, where I can just plug in my earphones in my ears and enjoy everything. I am so waiting for it to get warm enough for thaaaaaaaat!

3. What is your favorite/least favorite part about writing?Favorite: Coming up with ideas and characters and dialogue and sentences and everything. And seeing people’s reactions afterwards huhuhuLeast favorite: Writing the damn thing pffft. But tbh, the thing I have the most problem with re writing is descriptions, because I am so bad at it.

6. Favorite character you’ve written?For fanfiction I of course love Mercutio the most. For original works hmm.. shit, that’s tough question. Either Ashe from my relic story or Saraph or Thana from my assassins story. I honestly can’t decide.

8. Do you have any writing buddies or critique partners?Well, I have friends who read what I write and tries their best to give feedback? But that’s it.

9. Favorite/least favorite tropes?... this is an awful question that I can’t answer, because there’s too many of both. I honestly can’t choose.

10. Pick an author (or writing friend) to co-write a book withI actually tried co-writing a book once upon a time, so I can say that I really don’t want to do it again. I just have this issue with ‘no you’re not doing it exactly how I want ittttt’ and well. No.

12. Which story of yours do you like best? why?My two fic WIPs Strange Bedfellows and Wild Salt Air are two of my favorites. They both have tropes I adore, plenty of angst, and developing relationships - and it’s like the two stories where I am actually writing developing relationships from start to finish. Other than them I really really like the dtw prompt fic 249. Off with the head and A scratch, because I really really love whump without comfort? :D give me all the angst huhuhu

14. What does it take for you to be ready to write a book? (i.e. do you research? outline? make a playlist or pinterest board? wing it?)It’s actually something I’m trying out. I mostly have some sort of plot in my head for every story I write, but for each longer story I have so far different ways of writing it. For Strange Bedfellows I have a document planning out each chapter and the major events in each. For Wild Salt Air I have nothing, just the vague idea in my head. For this other unwritten fic I have a doc with each chapter fully detailed, just waiting to be written and filled out. For yet another fic I have basically done a mini fic with everything that happens, and it only has to be properly written. I always do the research whenever I get to it. Haven’t made a playlist for any fic or story so far, and have absolutely no interest in a pinterest board or anything like it.

15. How do you deal with self-doubt when writing?I become super clingy and have to be calmed down by friends. And this unfortunately happens a lot.... sorry ;A;

16. Cover love/dream covers?Sounds good I guess? Idk...

17. What things (scenes/topics/character types) are you most comfortable writing?I really really REALLY love writing emotions. Strong emotions of every kind, except maybe happiness. Happy/positive emotions aren’t as funny hehe~ And angst. Let me write all the angst, so I can bathe in all my readers’ tears.

18. Tell us about that one book you’ll never let anyone readUh a book I like that someone else has written? Idk dude, I don’t have one of those? A book/story that I have come up with? Godddddd, there are so many... and there is a reason that I will not tell anyone about them *definite stop*

20. Any advice for young writers/advice you wish someone would have given you early on?1. Using names are fine. More than fine, even. Use one or two epithets per person at absolute max. Names, just like ‘said’ are basically invisible for readers, even if you as a writer feel your eyes twitching over how often you use names. It’s just you, I promise. Use. Names. 2. Write as much as you can, even if what you write sucks. Know how to make sure your writing stops sucking? By writing more. The more you write, the better you get. Simple as that. If need be you can always rewrite those sucky stories later if the ideas are good *looks at several old-as-balls stories that seriously needs rewriting* 3. Sometimes it actually is okay to Tell instead of Showing. Mostly it’s better to Show instead of Tell, but sometimes the other way is perfectly good too or even better. Ignore those who say you must never ever use it.

21. What aspect of your writing are you most proud of?Emotions, again. I feel I am quite skilled at writing a character’s emotions and thoughts. My dialogue and humor has also approved in the last couple years, I feel.

25. What’s your worldbuilding process like?I like to start with the characters, and then I start building a world that fits them. I really like doing those world building worksheet thingies.

26. What’s the most research you’ve ever put into a book?Oh god... I think the longest I have spent on a story so far is like 12-14 hours combined. And I still haven’t actually written that story *headdesk*

27. Every writer's least favorite question - where does your inspiration come from? Do you do certain things to make yourself more inspired? Is it easy for you to come up with story ideas?For original stories I have always just had a desire for a specific scene, then I come up with the characters involved in that scene, then I come up with the stories those characters exist in. I love, love, love writing prompts, though. It’s pretty common for me to use a prompt in the first step aforementioned, then as I develop the characters and the world the inhabit I tend to sort of forget the original prompt. So it all works out well enough I think.

28. How do you stay focused on your own work and how do you deal with comparison?God, the only way for me to keep focused on one particular work is by having other people be interested in it. Otherwise I will completely lose my motivation to write it and start with other things instead. My mind never stops coming up with stories, after all.

30. Do you like to read books similar to your project while you’re drafting or do you stick to non-fiction/un-similar works? I strongly prefer staying away from anything that might influence my writing while I am writing it. This is the biggest reason why I only read friends’ fics nowadays.....

31. Top five favorite books in your genre?Those five favorite books from question 5 counts for this too, I guess.

32. On average how much do you write in a day? do you have trouble staying focused/getting the word count in?It varies so so so much. One time I wrote 6,000 words in a day. Another day I struggled writing 50. When I have prompts to write fics for I write around 1,000 words per day I guess?

33. What’s your revision/rewriting process like?Copy-pasting the text into a program with a proofreading software, then after reading it through I’ll poke a friend with better grasp of grammar to go through it, basically.

34. Unpopular writing thoughts/opinions?Idk dude, don’t really have any I think.

35. Post the last sentence you wroteThese, too, went unanswered, with only the occasionally shushing. Pffft, so thrilling isn’t it.

36. Post a snippetFrom the assassins story:“You're here with a job you want us to take." Thana’s voice was matter of fact, as though she already knew the answer. Her interruption was enough to bring Saraph's attention back to her. There was a tilt to her lips that told Saraph he wasn't the only one annoyed by the unknown man. "If you are here to try to offer us a job, just after we finished our last one, then you know us." Saraph had dropped all traces of warmth from his voice, and he threw another quick glance at Thana. "If you know us that well then you know that there is a system to contact us with your offer; there is no part in that system that gives permission to interrupt us completely unannounced. That is an action that would most likely end in someone's death." Before he had managed to get it into the air Thana turned sharp eyes on him; a moment later the gun fell to the ground, the man's hand falling with it. The man's shout made every person in the restaurant determinedly look away; they didn't know what was going on, but they were all sure it didn't have anything to do with them."If any of you makes a threatening move against me or my companion again I will not spare you," Thana said, slowly shifting her gaze to the now red-faced woman who was grinding her teeth.

37. Do you ever write long handed or do you prefer to type everything?My hand tends to hurt when I write, so I suuuuuuper prefer typing on something, whether computer or tablet or whatever.

38. How do you nail voice in your books?That’s something I wonder about too *cries*

39. Do you spend a lot of time analyzing and studying the work of authors you admire?Not really, no. I tend to get too sucked up into the stories. I am also not really that good at analyzing stories/characters... unless I try to write fanfiction with them, that is.

40. Do you look up to any of your writer buddies?Yes, I definitely do.

41. Are there any books you feel have shaped you as a writer?Again, the The Sandman comic series written by Neil Gaiman. They have had an incredible influence on me.

42. How many drafts do you usually write before you feel satisfied?I am never satisfied pffft

43. How do you deal with rejection?I kinda slink down deeper into my depression for a couple days and just watch shit or do other brainless things until I feel better.

44. Why (and when) did you decide to become a writer?This is differently worded question 24. So, copying that answer: I was the type of small child who was completely obsessed with stories, long before I could actually read. Then when I learned to read I, uh, advanced pretty quickly let’sputitlikethat apparently a 9-year old reading Very Mature books with graphic descriptions of killing and gory situations isn’t that appreciated by teachers. Especially not when this 9yo happily tells her friends all about these gory details at lunch….. oops? So uh idk. It’s always been a part of me? I’ve always been reading and coming up with stories, and then I started writing, and just. Idk dude. Forever, I guess.

45. First or third person?Third, although first can be pretty nice to write too.

46. Past or present tense?Slight preference for past tense, but just slight.

47. Single or dual/multi POV?Single. I am pretty sure I sometimes fail with it, however, ugh...

48. Do you prefer to write skimpy drafts and flesh them out later, or write too much and cut it back?Flesh out later, because it hurts to cut out parts of my story. It’s like cutting out parts of my own body, you knooooow

50. Do you share your rough drafts or do you wait until everything is all polished?I happily share everything. I need validation and encouragement to continue writing, after all.

51. Are you a secretive writer or do you talk with your friends about your books?I talk too much sometimes, I’m afraid pfffft. I want to share everything. Except in some cases where I like to have some things be spoilers, so I can better enjoy their reactions.

52. Who do you write for?I’d love to say ‘myself’ but it’s really for others who enjoy the same things as myself. If there wasn’t any others I’d just keep it all in my head, after all.

53. What is the first line of your WIP?The assassins story again: All around the planet huge sandstorms raged, but within the walls of New Vien the citizens went about their business without a worry of the outside world.

Favorite first line/opening you’ve written?After much indecisiveness we have:First line - from Heart Masochist: They were young once, all of them.And because I thought the question was about last lines too - from A Scratch: When their uncle's men finally found them Mercutio had stopped shaking, but Valentine couldn't stop crying.

55. How do you manage your time/make time for writing? (do you set aside time to write every day or do you only write when you have a lot of free time?)I basically write whenever I feel like it, whether I actually have time for it or not pfffft.
