Honestly, I think from the moment that Percy found out that not every demigod has a loving mortal parent they can depend on, when they already can't depend on the gods, and that Annabeth specifically, hasn't had anyone take care of her like that since she was 7, he decided he would be the one to.
They take care of each other up to that point, but I think that's when he starts noticing how much she takes care of them. She already knew if she didn't no one else will. She protects them against humans, she stands with them against monsters, she always brings up the rear of the group when they're running, and she is always the first one to make a move when they're fighting. She does it because no one is going to protect her if she doesn't do it herself. No one is going to protect Grover and Percy if she isn't.
In the arch, he pretty much tells her he would fight the gods for her, and then he goes on to do just that.
Athena, the one person who was supposed to protect her willingly pushes monsters her way, she lets Echidna and the chimera into a place that was supposed to be safe. Her decision is that Annabeth should be punished, and say what you want, but I think she knew that Annabeth would think through every scenario and know that someone had to stay and hold them back. And I think she knew that Annabeth would be the one to stay. Because that's the way she raised her, knowing that no one cared whether she lived or died. And I think that's the cruellest part.
Which is why Percy's sacrifice means so much more. He not only made the decision to trade his life for hers and fight the monster so she and Grover could escape, but he also made the conscious choice to push back against Athena's wishes. He fought a goddess for her, Athena said "Annabeth will die for her impertinence" and Percy said "Not today, not ever"

Speaking of Decked Out, I’m excited to reveal to you all that I had the honour of working with Tango himself to create a super detailed dark fantasy desk mat design for the first wave of Decked Out merch!! I crammed it FULL of references to the game—I’m particularly fond of the Ravager statues 😁✨
You can preorder it here! Let me know what you think!! I can’t wait to have one of my own 🙌

Okay archaeology friends, field season is nigh in my part of the world and I'm determined to create (and stick to) a quick, easy, and effective morning/night stretch routine this year to prevent my body from falling apart too early. I found a pretty simple set of stretches recommended for construction workers, which I'll post below, but if anyone has suggestions for modifying it for the needs of your average field tech I'd be most grateful.

Something that I feel like is ignored by this fandom is the fact that Percy is canonically suicidal.
Like, off the top of my head, I can think of three times when he wished that he could drown/ thought about letting himself drown, and idk it feels really under acknowledged?
I have more thoughts but i don’t have words for them.

i think rosemary would have a cold war when getting ready for their wedding. as in they love each other. they do want to get married (as much as any...what. they were 17 or whatever in the credits?) can but I think looking down the barrel of commitment makes rose start to tweak about completely unimportant things like the floral arrangements and its like 9 pm 3 hours before their last chance at cancellation with no fees or delay to the service and she's like Kanaya my dear I will not let you ruin our sacred union with those centerpieces. Have you even thought about how'd they'd look against the tablecloth. we'd have to burn the photographs. we'd have to turn people away at the door before they saw. and kanaya is like Lalonde Why Are You Fucking With Me On This

it's scary in the dungeon meshi tag right now....................... like.................... i feel like the writing of this episode was brilliant in how it included so much information and gave us a clear history of shuro's experience, a clear view into his feelings of resentment, and made it extremely and plainly obvious, with its use of the theme of being well-fed, that this is him at his worst.
the fight between him and laios was entertaining in how it was presented in contrast with everything and everyone else, but having it be a childish fight between two people who suck at communicating in different ways and for different reasons, didn't have bad intentions, and yet hurt each other, did wonders for their respective characterisations. shuro finally eats a bite of the food that senshi, "the guy who teaches everyone about being well fed", kept for him, and with a clearer mind not only treats his companions better (showing how touched they are that he thanked them is a perfect example of "show, don't tell": he doesn't usually do that or hasn't been doing that, but right now he did!) but also takes one of these clear headed, mature decision that laios earlier complimented him for.
laios hit him first - it was inappropriate. shuro hit him back - that was an immature decision. the fight wasn't nasty, it was equal amounts of childish on both sides and it led them to communicate with each other, which was what was missing between them. it was something that they both needed, it was something that was just for the two of them, which is why everyone else left them to it. once he ate something, shuro immediately behaved much better, so it's easy to picture - especially when laios has described his past self in a good light - that when he is in good condition, he has other qualities as an individual. i'm not saying this because i want people to look at a character i like in a good light - i'm enjoying him because he's very pathetic - but because it seems so clear that this episode's writing screamed "this is this man at his worst". the use of food guys. remember the food
of course i don't think you should use physical fights as a mean of communicating with your friends but i don't know if you guys (saw the big dragon woman) noticed that their situation is a little bit messy and scary and tiring .
etc. etc.

Any... particular thoughts on jayroy? 😉
A very respectable ship! (・ω´-ゞ)^☆
Neutral as I am towards it, I appreciate the potential in it so long as Roy is written as the capable man he is and not Jason's fluffer. They both have their struggles; they're both bamf in their own ways.
Something I really enjoy about their relationship (platonic, romantic or otherwise) is the way their internal struggles complement one another? Specifically with Jason being someone who suffered because of a parent with substance abuse issues and Roy being a parent with substance abuse issues. And Jason having reservations because of that; a lingering wariness due to past experience. But then Roy does what Jason's mother couldn't (for the sake of his kid) and that guts Jason in a different way. He's unintentionally waiting for the relapse, the danger that might come to Lian. The grief over doubting Roy but Jason's been burned so bad with this that he's just - the fear lingers.
And Jason being confronted again when Roy stays clean. Stays diligent with meetings and being healthy for Lian. And mourning what Jason could have had but never will with his own mom; only he does have it because Roy isn't just fighting this battle for Lian and himself - Jason is part of where Roy finds strength to persevere, too.
I'm not familiar enough with the ship so Jason having reservations and hangups and trauma during the above might be a hot take, but like. I think Jason still giving support in spite of that and Roy recognizing the difficulty in it and supporting Jason back and helping Jason with the grief of everything is also so good?
I don't know. It gives healthy ship vibes though; like they'd grow together and encourage each other to be better for themselves. Very hurt/comfort with emphasis on comfort. So long as Roy isn't dumbed down or made less to make Jason seem like a badass. Can we tell I have a gripe? It's possible I got exposed to the wrong things early on and that caused my impartiality lol.
My knowledge of Roy is limited, but he gives off connoisseur of hot toddies vibes and that's lovely.

I’m currently watching Suiyou Doudeshou (水曜どうでしょう) which is a Japanese cult classic travel show from mid 90s-early 00s featuring four (idiot) guys, and they get assigned rooms with double beds all the time.
ALL THE TIME.
(Well, something about Suzui-san/Misutaa screams girlypop loud n proud so I’m not really surprised. Source: my gaydar.)
So…Slimav with “only one bed” arch, soon? Maybe they (+Ice, of course) travel to Las Vegas or somewhere, and there are two rooms but one is a single bed room and the other is like a (barely) double bed room. Sli and Mav just lost so bad at the casino (plus Mav lost his wallet) so Ice is like man you losers can just cuddle on the single bed while I dominate the bigass mattress and they are like no, please have mercy.
A double bed.
Well, Sli and Mav—they are super good friends at this point. They hit off pretty well and they may or may not have gotten attached to each other.
Sli would be so stoked, a sleepover in a fancy hotel! But Mav? Oh god he’s just an awkward mess. (Guys, is it gay to want to cuddle with a buddy on a double bed like my other buddy joked earlier?)
Bonus points if Slider is feeling it, too—but he’s just too repressed as a gay man in the military he keeps shaking it off, trying to convince it’s just a phase for Mav’s part—until that short dark handsome bastard drops the L bomb.
