some maqāms abandoned/destroyed/appropriated in palestine after the 1948 nakba:
maqām al-khidr in the village of al-bassa.
maqām al-shaykhh mansour in the village of farradiyya.
maqām al-nabi shwami in the village of lubya.
maqām al-shaykh sultan badr in the village of dayr al-shaykh.
maqām al-shaykh amir in the village of jab'a.
maqām al-nabi yamin in the former village of kafr saba.
maqām al-shaykh 'abd allah in the village of umm al-shawf.
maqām al-nabi kifl in the village of dayr tarif.
maqām al-shaykh tamim in the former village of bayt jibrin.
maqāms are shrines built on sites associated with saints or other religious figures, common in the levant. (similar traditions can be found in surrounding areas.) rooted in ancient semitic, jewish, samaritan, and christian traditions, maqāms are usually associated with islam today in a reflection of the area's changing demographics; though some are considered holy by members of other abrahamic religions (such as maqam al-nabi yamin, which is thought by jews to house the body of the biblical character benjamin).
in palestine, many muslim villagers weren't easily able to access a mosque for a long time, and maqāms served the purpose of a place of worship - including for christian and jewish neighbors.

is there region specific aspects of Palestinian culture? Like certain foods mostly eaten in the West Bank than Gaza, or outfits that are region specific?
hmmm yeah so gaza has a lot more seafood options. they have different recipes for fish and shrimp and whatever else they can catch. west bank isn't really close to the sea so seafood that's fresh isn't super available. gaza grows good peppers and spicy stuff too. i've never been in gaza so i can't tell if there's much else of the difference between west bank stuff and the things they have in gaza, but since gaza is closed off from a lot of things, west bank has a lot more food variety and options.
each city has it's own clothing designs!! clothes you'll find from gaza will be different than clothes that you'll find in nablus, for example. clothes you'll find in al-quds (jerusalem) will be different than the clothes you'll find in ariha (jericho). there was a post floating around on tumblr with an old palestinian woman showing each different design from different cities. tried searching for it for like 10 mins but came up empty. if anyone finds it pls lmk!!
i hope this helps!!

al rahman (roman) mosque in cherchhell, algeria. it was made into a mosque under ottoman rule in 1574, having before been a roman catholic cathedral of saint paul. the cathedral was itself built over the ruins of a roman temple.
