“I can’t believe you,” you scoff, folding your arms to mimic the disgruntledness within your body.
Jake stares at you bewildered, “Seriously? Because I put a ring on a fan's finger?” you’re usually so understanding about these things. Typically, you never bother being jealous, he’s always been flirty with others, his fanservice on another level compared to others.
So why is this one bothering you so much?
“You don’t get it, Jake. Just forget it,” your voice is wavering but you hide it behind a deep breath.”
He walks towards you, cupping your cheek with his hand, “Are you really gonna act like this?” his words are harsh but he’s only trying to coax an explination from you, “It’s my job, Y/N.”
“I know it’s part of your job, Jake, I’m not stupid,” you bite back, pushing him away slightly.
Jake stands there, not used to this cold side of you, it makes him think if this has just beem bottling up inside you since you both started dating.
Sighing, he rubs his hands over his face in frustration, “I know you”re not stupid, but fuck Y/N, I can’t read your mind,” his voice raises slightly but he’s trying to keep his composure.
“You’re so quick to accept marraige proposals, get fake married at fansigns, and speak all day like about your future wife on lives but as soon as I want to talk about us and our future, you cower away!” you let it all out, the tension in your shoulders lifting slightly from all the pent up anger.
You’ve been holding it in for months but placing a ring on another woman’s finger, fan or not, has tipped you over the edge. Jake has avoided any talk regarding marriage or kids, opting to make a quick lighthearted joke or changing the subject, however, there is only so many ‘we can start practising’ and ‘did you see that book you like is beng made into a movie’ you can take.
After you’ve ranted about your troubles, you hear the unthinkable - he laughs. Not like a hearty laugh but a snicker which somehow is even worse.
“Are you seriously laughing about this right now?” you glare at him, hoping you just heard wrong, yet there he is, smiling his head off.
He glides towards you, placing his hands on your hips, “Baby, no, I’m not laughing,” he said through chuckles which obviously doesn’t help his case, “You’re just so cute when you’re jealous.”
Brushing your hair away from your neck, he begins to scatter kisses all over the base, working his way up. His lips linger, tongue flicking on your skin ever so slightly just to tease you.
Losing focus, you stutter, “I-I’m not jealous.”
“But you are, baby,” his grip tightens a little on your hips as he presses himself against you, eliciting a moan from you, “You know you have nothing to be jealous of.”
He trails his fingers from your waist to the bottom of your tummy, playing with the waistband of your trousers. His sudden provocative touch making you crumble, forgetting what you’re even angry about.
“You’re the only one I’m going to spend the rest of my life with,” he whispers into your ear, the tips of his fingers crawling into your trousers and placing themselves teasingly at your entrance, “And you’re certainly the only one I’m fucking and filling up with my cum,” two of his fingers enter you suddenly, you grip onto his shoulders.
His thumb attaches itself to your clit, rubbing it roughly as his fingrr curl into you. Jake’s lips are ghosting over yours as he smirks, feeling your ragged breath, “You like that idea hmm? For me to make you mine and marry you? Fuck my kids into you?” his spare hand sneaks under your t-shirt and rubs over your stomach tenderly, “What if I fill you up until you’re so full there’s no choice but to get pregnant?”
You’ve never been more turned on in your life, the mix of his words with the way his fingers are moving inside your pussy so deliciously has you purring.
But before you can get too comfortable, he pushes you onto the bed and yanks your bottoms down, leaving you exposed to his gaze.
Once he discards you and him of all your clothes, he crawls onto you, his hand resuming his previous activities, except this time with more vigour. His cock throbs as it sits on your inner thigh, only making you ache more for him.
Jake focuses on rubbing your sensitive nub, feeling how close you are already, “Who did you think I meant when I spoke about my future wife?” he smooches along the mounts of your breasts, taking your nipples in his mouth as he passes them.
Your head is cloudy, too lost in the feeling of his lips on you and his fingers working you open, your clit throbbing on his thumb. The mewls that are falling from your mouth hit him straight to his cock, making it jump slightly.
“Cmon, Y/N, who did you think I was talking about?” he asks again, picking up the speed of his digits.
“M-me,” you breathe out after mustering up the words that are tangled in your pleasure.
“So why the jealousy, hmm?” his voice is too calm, a stark opposite to your writhing body and busy mind. He can feel your walls clamping down and your slick dripping down his hand, indicating how close you are, “You’re so silly, baby,” he mocks you slightly but only because he can’t imagine why you would take his fanservice to heart like that.
You feel the familiar heat rising in your stomach as you tense, feeling your climax wash over you, “Fuck, Jake!,” you cry out his name while you dig your fingers into his shoulders.
The sensation of you coming undone only serves to fuel his desires even more, his dick longing to be the one you’re squeezing around. Swiftly, he removes his hand from your heat, leaving you empty but not for long.
Quickly, he lines up at your entrance and pushes inside you, your hole still contracting and tight from your orgasm. He isn’t giving you a moment to breathe, to recover from your climax.
Jake’s thrusts drive into you at great speed, the way your walls are hugging him tightly is driving him to pound into you deeper.
“You feel so fucking incredible,” he huskily whispers, his thumb back on the attack of your bud.
Your pussy is being overstimulated, each thrust of his hips and rub from his thumb has you thrashing around under him, a mix of pain and pleasure, “Jake, s’too much,” you groan as your hands weakly try to hold his hips still.
But he is too far gone, lost inside you, “You want me to stop?” he asks cheekily, a smirk splayed over his face, “Isn’t this what you want? For me to fill you up?”
Your clit is burning, your hole is being stretched beyond belief and you really don’t want him to stop, not your mind anyway, yet your body is trying to fight him, the overstimulation all a bit too much.
It feels so fucking good though.
Jake is getting close, you can tell when his hips faulter slightly and his jaw tenses. You want him to cum soon, if not to give your pussy a break, to give you what you desperately crave.
Reaching down, you clasp your hand around his wrist and remove his thumb from your nub - relief instantly washing over you - and place it on your stomach, his cock bulging with each buck of his hips.
He looks down and feels it, the tip of his cock poking out just under your belly button, “Fuck, Y/N. You’re gonna look so cute carrying our kid,” he says whistfully, voice full of love and adoration.
Kissing your lips hungrily, you feel another orgasm flushing through your body, that coil snapping once again as you clench his length, legs wrapping around him to hold him still as you ride it out.
Jake spurts ropes of his seed deep into you, making good of his promise to fill you up. The pulse of his dick adds even more gratification to you, the feeling of it jumping inside you makes you shake.
The room is filled with echoes of your shared pants and profanities, Jake's body falling on top of you once he’s rode out his high.
Looking up at you, his head laid on your chest, he smiles, “You’re unreal.”
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, you nod in agreement, “You too, baby,” you lean down to kiss his forehead lovingly.
“You know, I can’t wait to marry you,” he begins to speak, tracing shapes into your side, “I just want it to be at a time in our lives where I can actually be there for you. Once we’re settled and I’m not touring twenty-four seven. I want you to have a husband that’s always there when you need him, to help raise our family.”
His confession throws you off a little but your heart soars at the realisation that he has thought about your future together just as much as you have.
“And I promise, I won’t place rings on anyone’s fingers unless it’s yours,” he beams up at you, meaning every single word.

It was only a matter of time.
That was what you had been telling yourself all these years, trying to manage your expectations. Just because you thought yourself invisible didn’t mean you actually were, and it was—again—only a matter of time before somebody realized the King of Curses was fucking you.
Well, it’s only fair to say you were fucking him too. It’s a reciprocal thing, and Sukuna will readily admit to it, savoring the claim of how fiercely he’s desired compared to the other men in your life. But no one else will see it that way, least of all your father and husband, because you’re a woman and if you don’t belong to one, you belong to the other. Never yourself. That’s unthinkable.
What a joke.
You will never be sure who told. A disgruntled servant, perhaps, or a greedy one, ready to sell out their mistress for Lord Otagi or Lord Konoe’s favor. Perhaps one of your husband’s lesser concubines, jealous of even your lowly status because you had borne him sons while she remained barren. Or perhaps there was a spy in your ranks, from the Gojo clan or another up-and-comer eager to see one of your clans fall.
(You consider, for a moment, that Sukuna himself had exposed your affair, grown tired of you and too lazy to dispose of you himself. But one look at his face when finds you tells you that, as monstrous as he is, he never wanted this to happen to you.)
They grant you a farce of a trial before the town, branding you as a traitor even as you plead innocence. It does not matter that you have bled for family, duty, and tradition. All they see when they look upon you is Sukuna’s whore. And when they look upon your boys, not yet ten years of age, born long before you and the Disgraced One had ever made love, all they see is a monster’s brood. Your guilt—and theirs, wrongful where yours is not—had been decided from the very moment Sukuna touched you.
Very well. You can accept that you had done wrong, forsaking and betraying a husband you never loved for the bane of Hida’s existence, but the boys were innocent. They did not ask to be born. They did not ask to be your sons. They are sentenced to death alongside you anyway.
You are, for the most part, more angry than fearful. You had known Sukuna would be the death of you one way or another. When his son passed forth between your legs without issue, neither stillborn nor in breach (a constant fear after your husband’s chief wife perished), you were not fooled. One way or another, even as the babe was smuggled safely to Aizu with his accursed father none the wiser, your mistakes would one day catch up with you. Only, when you prepared yourself for this inevitability, you were certain that you alone would be punished. You are very upset to be proven wrong.
They have you chased through the forest. Men with bows and arrows, sickles, slings, and any form of weapon they can find; wolf shikigami and live hounds to track your scent; you are pursued by all sides through the lush greenery you once called home. Given a head start, you shed almost all of the layers of your junihitoe, but it was still difficult to run even so. The hunters jeered and hollered at the sight. “What a slut. It’s no wonder Sukuna couldn’t resist, if this is how she beckoned to him.” That alone had been enough to stoke the flames of your anger. Still, the boys were your priority.
Making sure they stayed in front of you, you tried to shield them with your body as best you could. It was, predictably, useless. The weapons were meant to herd you, more so than harm. Piercing your flesh was simply an added bonus. The real prize to them, the real monsters pretending to be men (and oh how deliciously ironic it is that they refer to Sukuna as such), was watching the three of you careen over the lip of a cliff into the ravine below. They did not stay long after that.
The fall wasn’t enough to kill you, a grown adult. But the twins bounced out of your grasp with a sickening crack that will haunt you for whatever pitiful moments you have left.
You’re not sure how Sukuna found you—if Uraume informed him of your execution, if he followed your residuals through the thicket and down the treacherous plummet, if he’d been drawn by your cries of agony (for you were missing a limb) and anguish (for you were missing your children, a terrible pain so heart-rending that it had no name). His eyes are… strangely soft, all four of them, as he gazes upon you.
Sukuna whispers your name in mourning, and for the first time in a long time, he sounds like the human boy you once loved. Then, in an instant, his face hardens with hatred. “Who did this to you?” he demands, his levels of cursed energy spiking with enmity. “Your bastard father? Or has it come time for the Two-Faced Specter to visit his wrath upon Lord Otagi?”
“Please,” you croak, reaching out to catch his wrist. His arm is too thick for your fingers to encircle it, and he snatches your hand when it slides off of him. If he had joined you in the midst of your pursuit, you would have accepted the offer. But at the moment, the only thing you can think about is that his mastery of jujutsu means he’s as good a healer as you are. Perhaps even better. “The boys… Help them…”
You can see Michimaru, unnervingly still, just above Sukuna’s right thigh. You’ve never been an optimist, but for them, you have to try. “If you can use your reverse cursed technique—”
There had been a weight crushing your left side, something round cracking your ribs when you struck the river bank. Sukuna picks it up and flings it away like one would plywood. That thing is gentle little Takechiyo, the unnatural bend of his neck worsened by the way he lands on his head. Your cry is hoarse, rattling free of punctured lungs as you reach out to him in futility. “No!”
In contrast with the callous treatment he’d given your son’s corpse, Sukuna picks you gently up in his two upper-most arms. It’s tender, the way he looks at you, and that makes bile rise up in your throat. There was a part of you that knew he never truly loved you, but now it’s clear as day.
“I will destroy everyone who did this to you,” Sukuna vows. Had the words fallen from anyone else’s lips, you might have found such devotion romantic. From him, it’s possession. Fury that somebody had broken his toy without his permission. If Sukuna ever loved you, he would’ve saved your sons. He would listen as you pleaded with him, rather than glare in the general direction of your shared hometown, likely fantasizing about murder and pillaging. He only looks down when you speak his given name, one of the last relics that proved he was once just a man, and he softens just a little.
“Please,” you beg again. It is more than likely that an appeal to his humanity is useless, on account of him not having any, but you’re weak. If you were strong, you wouldn’t have ended up in this situation, either scaring off or destroying your accusers. If you were strong, you would have resisted Sukuna at every turn. But the helpless curve of his brow and the light pout of his lips will always bring to your mind the first boy you ever loved over the monster he’s become. “Please don’t do this.”
“You would grant them mercy?” Sukuna scoffs incredulously. You can almost detect a hint of disappointment.
“I would not have you use me as an excuse to raze Hida to the ground. I’ll not have my name sullied with the blood of thousands, I won’t have old neighbors and friends turned into the main course of my funerary feast because of your bloodlust.” You pull your hand from his grasp with what little strength you have left and reach up to cup his jaw. He lets you, even leaning into the touch. “You were better than this, once. You can be, again. Please. For me.”
“Your last wish?” he murmurs. Once more, he’s the ghost of a tender stablehand.
“My last wish is that you try to save my children,” you plead. “Take the boys, there’s still time, and go to Aizu. There’s—”
But your blood runs cold as his features harden. You stare into the visage of the King of Curses, the Two-Faced Specter, the Disgraced One, and you are reminded that you are a fool. No amount of wishful thinking will bring back the boy he pretended to be, and to him you will never be anything but something to own, not even really a prize—just a possession, an adornment. Bless the stars that you’d managed to stop before you told him of the child that you created together.
“Do not presume to hold any dominion over me. Do not condescend to me,” Sukuna says coldly. “I will punish who I like as I see fit. They have hurt you, and for that, they will pay.”
Still, he makes no mention of your sons. You wish to protest, to fight back, but you are tired, battered, and broken. Instinct had kept you alive, healing yourself with whatever cursed energy you could reverse. It is a taxing, exhausting process, and you can bear it no longer. Blood begins pouring freely from the stump of your left shoulder as your right lung collapses.
Your hand falls from Sukuna’s face, though you hardly feel it when it strikes the ground. You are numb all over. You’ve died for nothing, you think. If it had been for love, if Sukuna truly cared for you, then perhaps there might have been something romantically tragic to it. It may have meant something.
But he and his followers will martyr you for a cause you never asked for, and Michimaru and Takechiyo will be lucky to go down as a footnote in this story. You wonder if the sorcerers of the future will ever know your name, or if you will only be remembered as Sukuna’s woman, if you’re remembered at all.
His massive hand gently closes your eyes, and you’ve not the strength to open them again. “Rest, beloved,” he says softly. It just sounds like he’s mocking you, despite the tender tone that rumbles in his chest.
As you pass, in a moment that seems to stretch on forever, you are struck with a sudden burst of rage and hatred.
You curse this land and then men who ruled it, those who condemned you to a life of loveless misery since the very moment you were born. You curse Ryomen Sukuna, a man choosing to live by a monster’s name. If that is who he wants to be, if he wants to burn the world to ashes like a monster would, then you’ll grant his wish.
In this life and the next thousand, may Sukuna be the plague upon this land which had plagued you, every piece of him its punishment and scourge, from the ends of each hair to the tips of his twenty fingers.
(Little did you know—
You had cursed yourself too, to see this through.)

at the risk of sounding butthurt for talking about not being butthurt: going through quals really prepared me for trawling through fandom meta and research while keeping my zen
#redglyphs#opinionated verm#i have not seen another fandom as salty and divisive as the dc one#all the interesting meta and summaries come with this implicit ''you illiterate idiot'' vibe (exhausting)#or the ''we do what we want and fuck canon'' mindset is taken to the extreme end (simplistic and lacking nuance)#personally the visual style of a lot of western comics grates at me so it's hard to get into#but i do like the wack and fucked up dynamics of canon + trying to imagine a world/chronology around that#i like calibrating what i write around canon -> thus those meta&summary posters are very valuable and interesting to keep up with#i just gotta do 🙈 whenever they start to lambaste ''''fans'''' for not reading the comics/despised fanon reinterpretations of characters#''mmhmm yep. okay okay. i'm stupid. but let's get to why my blorbo is so fucked up bc of [whatever issue/run]''#like whatever they say they cannot roast me as hard as this one prof from my quals panel did#that prof is basically the successor of the academic lineage that established his discipline#and man utterly destroyed me during the exam#''you have no idea what you're talking about; you didn't even read taylor's hypothesis from 1941'' and i just let my soul evaporate lmao#anyways. i feel like fandom (all fandom and esp ones w sprawling canons) would benefit from two things:#1) willingness to learn (you gotta try to absorb some of the canon to transform it; ''know the rules to break them'')#2) willingness to accept limits (ppl are allowed to pick and choose; ''you gotta tolerate other ppl on the playground'')#and like. fucking chill out. we're all literally writing about some fictional dudes doing fictional things#rarely is a thing you dislike actually harmful rather than just distasteful (to you personally or broadly w/e)

Tell Me That You Love Me Episode 15-16
The review of the last two episodes of Tell Me That You Love Me
So, finally, I gathered enough bravery to watch the last two episodes, fearing that the show would end up with bad end.
Thankfully, it isn't. Unfortunately, it ended like how I expected it to be. The damn time skip.
But, who am I to complain? I'm satisfied enough that the show doesn't end with a bad ending. That's enough.
So, the last two episodes totally… destroyed me.
I cried like I was the one who got brokenhearted.
In that scene where Jin Woo cries and calls Mo Eun's name in his hoarse voice, it is such a shame that Mo Eun didn't hear it.
I think the core of the problem between Mo Eun and Jin Woo is that… Jin Woo's lack of conveying his feelings to Mo Eun. Like the title of the show, Tell Me That You Love Me. Of course, it started because of Jin Woo's lack of communication about what happened with his past lover, but after that, Mo Eun felt lonely because she felt like she was the only one who loved him, and he didn't return her feelings.
Of course, Jin Woo has his own way of loving Mo Eun and he is the type who shows his affection through actions. But, even that was so subtle to see and Mo Eun needs to squint her eyes to understand the meaning of all of Jin Woo's subtle expressions of love. She could think that Jin Woo doing all of that because he was being nice, not necessarily because he loved her. The more she was in doubt, the more she failed to see Jin Woo's language of love.
And Jin Woo, mostly, acted so passively. There was a lot of waiting on his end because he was always walking on eggshells. Their love was mature, but maybe, it was also too quiet. Compared to the other love stories in this drama, their love is too quiet and Mo Eun became lonely because of that.
Of course, it isn't good for her to start wishing to have something that Jin Woo can't do, and that is exactly why she berated herself in the end. It isn't easy to love Jin Woo, who is scarred and carries a lot of baggage on his end. It isn't weird for Mo Eun to feel saddened and lonely because of she started to lost her believe that Jin Woo loved her back.
This drama could end better if they could communicate better, for Mo Eun to convey why she felt lonely (though I understand that she also didn't have the heart to ask Jin Woo to convey his love to her in a more apparent way because Jin Woo's language of love is simply different, that is just how he is) and for Jin Woo to understand that he did deserve people to love him (so that he doesn't need to always act carefully and so guarded, fearing that one stupid mistake can drive people away from him).
Of course, the damn time skip came, and while the show is shown how all of the characters' life turned out, it fails to show why Jin Woo and Mo Eun need time to love each other back again.
If I can speculate, maybe the reason why Jin Woo acted so brightly after returning from abroad is that he finally allowed himself to love Mo Eun. He always felt like he undeserving of love, so to accept that it is okay for him to love someone is a huge deal. For him who always prepare himself for people to leave him all the time, it is indeed a huge deal. Mo Eun herself, finally understands that everyone has their own way of conveying their love and that people can love in different ways and shapes.
It would be way better if the drama ended with a scene of Jin Woo really says how much he loves Mo Eun, not just a monologue on his part.
But well, again, I'm happy with the happy ending. (And if I'm unsatisfied with the end, I can just write a fanfic for it, if I have enough motivation).

Random, but. It’s fascinating how “Valjean and Javert written by someone who thinks cops are Good” is so radically different from “Valjean and Javert written by someone who thinks cops are Bad.”
Like, for me the number one Thing that will determine whether I enjoy someone’s take on Valjean and Javert are whether they realize that the police/prison as an institution destroyed both of their lives, and is the villain of both of their stories XD.
But yeah it’s really fascinating! Both in adaptations and in fanfiction, the tone/interpretation with which the plot beats are handled can change so much about the characterization. All the adaptations/fic start off with the same basic plot beats but so much can be changed and colored (for better or worse) by the way the author chooses to interpret them
#i do want to say that I always think more people in the fandom is fun!#and fanfic is supposed to be whatever self indulgent stuff scratches your id and can’t be held to the same standards as published stuff#I will never tell people what to write!#also I’ve got cringe fanfic on ao3 too (let he who is without cringe cast the first stone etc etc)#so I’d be the WORST person to preach about that XD#(the next part in the tags is a joke don’t come at me)#but— as a lighthearted joke— sometimes to me personally the Les mis fandom feels like#imagine if you’re in the fandom for the new she ra show#and the show’s about the Evil Horde and how it destroys the lives of the two main characters in different ways#but then like? half the fandom insisted on referring to it as the Morally Okay Reformable Horde#and then like. all the catra/adora fanfic ended with Catra realizing she needs to be a Nicer horde soldier#and maybe adora rejoins the horde to and they go off to fight for Justice (which is what the horde does)#and then you were like ‘huh that’s a bit odd’#‘I thought the point was that the horde poisoned both of their lives and ripped them away from their friends/family’#‘like I thought the evil horde was evil and stuff’#and people responded to you ‘why do you hate catra and catradora?’#and you were like ‘no I love catra! but I thought the whole point was that yknow. she kinda had to leave the evil horde and all’#‘like her upbringing in the horde had left her with a violent self-destructive authoritarian worldview and all’#‘and her obsession with being a good horde soldier was not indeed a good admirable thing but sorta pathetic and sad’#‘and adora was right to leave and hate the horde for what it did to her’#‘and her flaw was that (like catra) she still internalized a lot of the way it taught her to view herself’#‘and the whole fun of catradora is the idea of the two of them sorta finally figuring out who they are outside of that abusive system’#anyway in this metaphor catra is javert adora is Valjean the horde is the police catradora Is valvert XD#this is a goofy metaphor made after hours of homework and is not to be taken too seriously

Shadowheart was so mad at Addy over finding out he was the one who started the cult of the Absolute, and for him not telling them. Even though Addy didn’t know before just then either. And they all know he has amnesia and he made no secret of this being a surprise to him while talking to Gortash.
Shadowheart, my girl, *you* have amnesia, have a little empathy.

Din Djarin, 30
30. was it worth it? (from this list) further adventures in that modern au with anti-social baseball cap wearing single dad din djarin because i have no idea what's happening on the show anymore, let's doooo this
Once Din pulls into the driveway, he cuts the engine and sends up a tentative prayer to the universe that the sound is not enough to wake Grogu up. The kid is zonked out in his booster seat in the back, clutching the stuffed animal Din had won him at the fair—at the booth where you shoot a target with a water pistol to make it move, of course, because his aim is still worth writing home about after all these years—and seemingly unbothered by the sudden quiet. Din breathes a sigh of relief and then shifts his focus to the daunting task of trying to get this kid out of his seat, up two flights of stairs, and into the apartment without somehow waking him. It's not going to be easy.
With another sigh, Din opens the door and keeps it there with his foot as he digs around in the center console for his phone and his wallet before pulling the keys out of the ignition. Belatedly, he sees the golden light pouring from the open garage door and realizes Cal must be working in there still. Before Din can properly catch up, Cal is already outside and on his way over.
"I'll uh," Din says, as he gets out, gesturing back at the car, "I'll get this out of your way in a few, I just gotta get the kid upstairs first."
Cal shakes his head, already smiling. "No rush," he says, easily. "We're not going anywhere. And besides, you're always up early anyway. Do it in the morning."
"I don't want to block you all in, if you need to—"
"Like I said, we're not going anywhere. It's fine."
"Well—”
"I'll ask Merrin, if it'll make you feel better! But she will definitely also say it's fine."
Merrin is Cal's—well, Din isn't sure if they're married or not. Cal doesn't wear a ring and Merrin wears dozens, so it's hard to tell. They're definitely a couple, because they do that seamless first person plural thing all the time when they talk about each other, but if they happen to refer to each other in the third person, they just use each other's names, rather than “my spouse” or “my partner”, except for the time Cal—perhaps accidentally—referred to her as "my Merrin" and she made a face and mimed punching him in the stomach for it. They live on the first floor and generally manage the property because they know the owner, which means Cal has all of his tools and his work bench in the garage for his various projects and Merrin tends to the garden out back, which grows a bunch of vegetables and strange plants that Din isn't convinced should be able to survive in this climate. He suspects she has a way with these things but has never bothered to ask about it.
"I'll take your word for it," Din says, reluctantly. "And I appreciate it."
"No problem," Cal replies. "Need any help?"
Din opens the door and starts unbuckling Grogu from his seat. "Uh, I think I'm alright, but thanks."
Cal leans slightly back, so as not to be in the way when Din gently lifts Grogu out of the car and tucks him over his shoulder. "Wow, you really tuckered him out, huh?"
"Yeah. We went to the fair, the, uh, Apple and Trout something or other...?"
Cal laughs. "Peach and Chowder Festival," he corrects. "I know it well."
"This is a strange town."
"I know that too. Looks like you did alright, though."
"Yeah," Din says, gingerly lifting the tail of the stuffed shark in acknowledgement. Another parent at the booth had claimed it was a knockoff of some famous trademarked shark but Din doesn't know about all that. He only knows it was the next best thing in Grogu's mind when there were no frog or lizard plushes to be won. "He's happy, at least."
Cal tips his head to the side, curiously. "You didn't enjoy yourself?"
"Ah, well, you know...crowds and lots of noise and kids all hopped up on sugar...that's not really my thing. But it's not about me, it's about him, so..."
"Yeah," Cal says, with a small smile. He puts a hand gently on Grogu's back. "Bet that makes it all worth it, huh?"
Din suddenly feels very stupid for never bothering to ask Cal or Merrin if they have kids. He’s never been great at that stuff, asking the right questions to really get to know people, and so he can only guess what their situation is. He thinks they're about his age, give or take a few years, and that means they're young enough that, if they had any children, he expects they'd still be living together, but he's not sure about that. They could have kids old enough to be living on their own, he supposes. And they've always been kind to Grogu, never once making a snide comment about him not talking much or needing his space sometimes, the way some other folks do. Sometimes, Cal will even let the kid hang out in the garage to watch him work, waving away Din's concerns about him being too much trouble by pointing to Beady, the cat that's almost always curled up around his neck or perched on his shoulder.
"If I can work with this one around," Cal's fond of saying, "your son's no bother."
Still, Din's not sure how exactly to ask that politely—if they have children of their own or not—especially if the answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no. And there is something complicated and sad about what Cal's expression is doing right now.
"Anyway," he says, cheerfully after a moment, and the expression is gone, tucked away somewhere. "I'll get out of your hair. Just wanted to offer some help if you needed it."
Din clears his throat, thinking about how his therapist is always talking about how he should get better at accepting the kindness other people offer him and also something about how his upbringing had convinced him there's some nobility in suffering needlessly. He probably can get Grogu inside and into bed without any assistance, but it would be easier with help. There had also been a discussion in therapy about depriving people of the satisfaction of showing their love for him by turning down their offers to be of service.
"Actually," he says, feeling foolishly nervous about something so small and seemingly easy, "if you could grab the door for me, that would be a huge help."
"Of course," Cal says, with an easy smile. "Happy to."
"And let’s just, uh, make sure we don't lose the shark,” Din says, as they make their way up the steps. “I don’t think I have it in me to win another one.”

I have watched the Jujutsu Kaisen anime twice since the beginning of the month, and I just finished the entire manga that I started on Sunday morning.
This is fine. I'm fine. It's fine.

“Why do you ship Darklina; it’s such a toxic ship?”
Ben Barnes and Jessie Mei Li are hot. Next question.
#darklina#shadow and bone#ben barnes#jessie mei li#sorry not sorry#i am shallow you give me two pretty people with chemistry and i'm gonna ship sorry but i don't make the rules#and like narratively it was the more interesting#and like it would have made a better plot (in my humble opinion)#okay i understand that the darkling is the villain and in later books he does some pretty cartoonish villain stuff and yada yada#if you want to read the text and interpret it like he is a clear cut villain then by all means do that if that is what you want#i just think it weird that the author would choose to make the villain the leader of an oppresed minority#as opposed to the monarchy and the system itself that enables this same kind of oppression#and like lets say the darkling was just the villain#killing him and destroying the fold would not really help anything since the oppression is still there#like people still hate grisha#i dont know#its leigh bardugo's story so she has every right to write what she wants to write#but i just find it weird or interesting how she would focus on Alina and Mal's relationship and disregard said oppression#i think the story would have benefitted from a more darklina approach#by having the light and the dark fighting side by side for a better world#because shadows aren't inherently bad#just as the sun isn't inherently good#you know balance or like calls to like or whatever#and if you were really set on not having alina and sasha end up together (event though they are literally soulmates)#then it would have been find since at least the ongoing war on grisha would be addressed#and like alina should get to keep her powers because it is literally her#you cannot have one without the other if you describe it similar to breathing#you cant have darkles be the villain without adressing why he became one in the first place#but i digress#at least bb and jml are hot ig
