Since I think about clones like I’m getting paid for it, I've been rotating those alternate universe "what if Bart and Thad were actually raised together" scenarios in my brain, with Thad either post-redemption-arc or pre-villainy. Because adjusting Thad's character to fit an ally role while still keeping true to his core motives and personality is so so fascinating to me.
Like I think there's an immediate first instinct to slot Thad into a "bad" twin category: ie rebellious and prickly, doesn't get along with people, mean lil shit. And obviously it's not wrong bc we're outside the realm of canon, but the reading still feels a little left of center.
Because Thad is mean and prickly in canon. In the Impulse comics he belittles Bart and Bart’s friends/family constantly in his appearances. He loves to goad, and monologue about his own superiority and intelligence. He’s very Not Nice, and he causes many problems, and he even does it on purpose.
But, I think it’s important to consider the context. From the jump Thad knows very little about anything except which team he’s on and who he’s playing for. He gets his orders from an unseen authority and he carries out his tasks because success means his team wins.
For all his self-aggrandizing talk, everything he does is in service of an end goal that doesn't actually center him. He's trying to get revenge for grievances he's never personally suffered, retribution for actions never committed against him. Everything he does is on someone else's behalf.
Thad sees in black and white, us or them. Up until the final few issues of Mercury Falling, Bart and co. are Thad's enemies, of course he's not going to be nice.
So Thad's motivation seems pretty simple: Thawne Supremacy™.
But it’s in Mercury Falling where this starts to fall apart, and the real core of his motivation gets revealed. Thad pretends to be Bart and suddenly Helen is nice to him. Bart’s friends think he’s funny. Bart’s teachers are impressed with his grades. Max ruffles his hair and gives him hugs and tells him he’s done a good job.
If he was actually an inherently mean and standoffish character, if Thad actually had significant personal stake in the Thawne VS Allen conflict, the weight of such tiny acts of kindness wouldn’t completely break him the way that it does in canon.
Thad thinks his goal is superiority and revenge and Thawne Supremacy™, but he's chasing validation. Thad doesn’t have a personal stake in the Thawne VS Allen conflict. He wouldn't get much satisfaction if he actually destroyed Bart and his family. Thad's personal victory would be the recognition after the fact: the praise and attention from the other Thawnes (a group of people he has literally never met) for his success.
He wants validation. That's basically it. And the fact that he gets it so easily from Bart's family and friends doesn't align with how he's told himself things are supposed to work.
Actually tangentially, Bart and Thad’s respective relationships to authority is so diametrically opposed and tbh kind of subversive in a superhero narrative. Where the hero is the one carving his own path without regard to social or societal rules, no fucks to give what anybody thinks of it. And the villain is a chronic people-pleaser.
Just based on Thad’s reaction to simple praise and affection from Max I really think Thad’s motivation has more to do with the response he gets than whatever the details are of any given task. He has no actual personal convictions beyond getting positive attention, and whatever he did have crumbled as soon as Bart’s friends laughed at his joke one time. Which of course leads into the core of his whole conflict at the end of Mercury Falling. He cares too much about Bart’s friends and family now, he doesn’t want to kill them, but worse than that, he’s faced with the sudden realization that he’s on the wrong side.
The Allens gave Thad everything he actually wanted and needed, but his conception of himself is inexorably tied to the Thawnes: who gave him jack shit. These two facts are in opposition to each other, and he can’t reconcile the reality of it.
Anyway all this to say, in an AU where Bart and Thad are raised together or Thad gets an actual redemption arc etc etc, I think my personal take on Thad’s personality whether it be pre-or-post-villainy would be one that is extremely socially conscious. He is much more of a people-person than Bart. Whether he's actually accurate in assessing people's feelings and how to respond to them can be hit or miss, but he wants to behave in a way that gets people to like him.
Pretending to be Bart isn’t remarked upon as, like, a difficult task for Thad. In his internal monologue he’s literally bragging to himself about how easy it is. But what’s especially notable to me is where his act differs from Bart's typical MO. Everyone notices, and lots of people comment, and presumably if Thad didn’t have the excuse of Max’s illness to “motivate” Bart to do better he would’ve been found out immediately. And those things are, specifically: paying attention in class, doing his chores, staying on task, and being helpful around the house. The one thing about Bart he chooses not to emulate is Bart’s rebelliousness.
Thad wants to prove himself, constantly, to whatever authority he respects (probably Max in this scenario) and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. In contrast to Bart, who only listens to authority when the shit they're saying actually makes sense to him. It’s excessively difficult to convince him to go against his own interests. (And I think a key part of that is Bart’s security in knowing that no matter how much he fucks up or doesn’t listen, the people he loves will always love him back.)
Thad’s got the people-pleaser in him that has to deserve whatever he’s given. It’s why he’s happiest when he’s given a clear goal or objective to complete, because it gives him an opening to prove himself.
All this to say that if we are quantifying Bart and Thad as a "good" or "bad" twin, in the eyes of every authority: Bart is the bad twin. Bart is the bad twin, Bart is the bad twin. Bart is the one who doesn’t care about school and whose grades vary wildly depending on his personal interest. He’s the one who goes off to do dangerous shit for fun and gets in trouble constantly and doesn’t do his chores and is thoroughly unconvinced by any authority figure trying to sell him bullshit.
Thad is the one who needs to know all the rules just so he can experience the joy of following them. Relentlessly obedient. He'll put all his effort into doing all the right things that’ll endear him to whoever he wants to impress - meaning he’s the asshole who reminds the teacher about the assigned homework. Bart might be the most popular boy in school, but Thad is a pleasure to have in class.
Like Thad can (and should) still be high-strung and short-tempered and sarcastic and edgy and mean, because he is. But he can’t be doing all that without rhyme or reason. Colouring every interaction has to be that one-zero binary of ally or enemy. He needs to have somebody he’s proving himself to: a team he’s on and a team he’s against. He’s not an inherently rebellious character. He can go up against The Enemy, whoever he deems as such, but it has to be in service of a hypothetical future in which somebody eventually tells him he did a great job.
And in the interest of continuing to beat a dead horse, it connects to their respective upbringings. Thad and Bart were both raised in VR, but Bart’s experience had the side effect of basically hard-wiring him against insecurity. His world was a playground tailor-made for him, and he was never made to feel bad or insufficient about any aspect of himself. His first interaction with a real human person was Iris moving heaven and earth to save him, without him knowing her, without her knowing him, with no reasoning for the act needed beyond Being Her Grandson. Which is probably a significant factor in why Bart moves through the world with frankly atomic levels of autistic swag.
Thad’s VR upbringing installed self-consciousness in his psyche before any other personality trait. As in: he is immediately made conscious of himself and his relationship with everyone he will ever encounter. He’s told two things: he’s a clone of someone else (inherently derivative, lesser) and that he was made to be superior (a status to achieve). Which is such an instant clarifier for Thad’s everything. Where superiority is a condition that everyone either has, or does not. It’s the one-zero binary again: are they better than me or am I better than them. Being above others is mandatory, and if his superiority is ever challenged by hard evidence or god forbid nuance Thad’s brain physically cannot take it. He needs to be better, to be worse is unthinkable, and there is no other way to be.
And this status of better or worse is, crucially, not up to Thad to decide. He needs The Authority to validate him. Bart never tries to prove himself because he has nothing to prove. Thad’s entire identity hinges on the self-worth he gets from doing a Good Job.
It is such an inherent part of his motives in the Impulse comics canon, which is why it always feels a little off when he’s interpreted as a jackass indiscriminately.
Like I don't think he needs everyone to like him. But I do think he has either one person or a set of very particular people that he needs to like him. Everyone else is either in that circle or outside of it.
(Which is why Bart is such a great foil for Thad tbh. There is no set of words or behaviors that’ll change Bart’s opinion of Thad, because Bart is unaffected by obedience or charm. So ironically Bart is probably one of few people that Thad doesn’t bother to put on even a little bit of an act for.)
While Bart goes with his instincts, his personal beliefs and convictions at all times, Thad is hyper-conscious of big-picture goals. They balance each other out that way. Thad's keeping track of whatever expectations he has placed on him, and how his actions reflect on him and the team beyond short-sighted solutions. He's a team player. AND he's an asshole.

SO... do you headcannon anyone in horizons as autistic?
OH BOY DO I
Tumblr media
so dot is the most obvious choice. there is no universe in which she is not autistic to me. this is one of my strongest dot headcanons actually and one of the main reasons i enjoy her as a character. there are so many reasons for this i could go on endlessly but i'll just list a few big ones here
her extreme passion for her interests at a disregard for almost everything else & her ability to self teach those topics (not to mention her interests have to do with computing)
her difficulties with food overlap a lot with food sensitivities autistic people often have, also her latching onto donuts as a sort of samefood after finally trying them once
the tendency to wear loose, comfortable clothes and more recently she has complained while wearing tighter clothes (the orange academy school uniform) so it's not just that she prefers loose fabric, she also is put off by the alternative. girl your sensory problems
irritable outbursts when struggling to articulate herself/make herself understood
her connection with kanuchan (tinkatink) felt really neurodivergent to me. she wasn't offput by her behavior, even after stealing her prop mic, and was immediately able to understand her when no one else could or was willing to. not sure how to articulate this one right now but i hope you see what i mean
her tendency to sit cross legged and lean over herself reminds me a lot of my personal autistic tendency to need a pressure/weighted feeling while i sit or have body parts touching
social exhaustion, the need to be alone sometimes even when she cares
the list genuinely goes on i have to stop myself LOL
as for other characters,
Tumblr media
so for liko i'm more loose about the headcanon, it's definitely more of me projecting than her being overtly autistic in canon but i still think it lines up if u wanna view her that way. i'm autistic and i personally relate to liko a lot becauseee
she is giving hyperempathy autism to me. the way she is overly empathetic and compassionate to her own detriment and yet still has to have her hand held through articulating & dealing with that or putting the logical parts of empathy together
the way she absolutely fucking Explodes with excitement sometimes
the way in which she relates to cats, and her whole thing about having a hard time getting other people to understand her. these two things go hand in hand
there's something neurodivergent about her trying to connect with sprigatito by studying her and writing notes about her behavior lol
while this is kind of just on the account of her being an anime character and a protagonist at that, liko's facial expressions and body language can be pretty exaggerated sometimes which reminds me of my own body language, i'm cartoonishly animated in real life often LOL
so like basically dot is so obviously autistic to me it's like breathing but for liko it's kind of a hc i apply to her for projection purposes & fun but i think it's reasonable
and lastly so i'm not just talking about solely liko and dot for the millionth time,
Tumblr media
ORIO!! honestly we don't even know that much about orio but the one episode where she was helping pokeball lady i forget the name of fix her machine. the really narrow attention to detail/seeing the smaller parts instead of the bigger picture. also her expertise in engineering contrasted with her struggling with tasks outside of that (like when she was trying to sew holes in the brave asagi and for the life of her could not do it so she called murdock for help lol)
and actually one more - while i don't necessarily headcanon amethio as autistic, i think it's a fun headcanon/au idea to not only give him a redemption arc but an autism unmasking arc at the same time. representation for all my repressed autistics out there. in my mind
thanks for asking i'm so autistic about horizons so of course i headcanon them with autism too JOISJOIFD

AITA for trying to kill my FUCKING clone?????
Okay okay. So I (18F) wanted to go on a date, right? Except I had two dates at once. I go to a magical school with lots of magic and stuff so I figure, I'll find a magical solution. You know how it is. SO I used a magical emerald to duplicate myself so that my clone could go on one date and I could go on the other, and then I would just dematerialize her later, whatever. Uhhhh well my clone turned out to be evil. I told her to go on the date and I would just dematerialize her and she TURNED EVIL AND KILLED THE SCHOOL'S HEADMASTER?? And then everyone thought I did it just because there was camera footage of a person who looks exactly like me killing the school headmaster!!!!!
So I got broken out of school jail for it. Then she killed my dad in order to hurt me and started acquiring a bunch of other magical emeralds that made her all powerful and immortal, and then she DESTROYED THE UNIVERSE. The entire universe. And killed every single person in it, including ALL my friends and family. Well, I couldn't kill her because now she's all powerful and immortal. SO I was like oh geez I gotta act and I used the power of the emeralds to trap her in an alternate universe with a bunch of fake memories. She killed my dad and she made herself hotter than me so I gave her fake memories of having a dad who died and made her look really plain looking and stuff. I figure, if I can't kill her, I gotta trap her. So I put both of us in an alternate universe version of our school with alternate universe versions of my friends and tried to act like a normal student and stuff. I had to kill another student and replace him so that I could also be at the school and no one would notice me, and I started taking potions to look like him so that no one would catch on that I also wasn't from this universe. A teacher at the school found out I wasn't who I was, and I had to kill him to keep up the ruse, but it was super necessary to stop my evil clone.
Well... my clone woke up and figured out who she was and that the name and face and memories I gave her were fake. She kept pretending to be an average plain nobody because she didn't know who I was yet. Then a bunch of stuff happened with souls, and my original friends woke up in the bodies of their alternate universe selves. You know, my friends who my clone KILLED!!!! And she started bonding with them and pretending to be their friend and talking about how she was having a "redemption arc"! So I explained everything to them! I was like hey, that person you think is your friend is actually my EVIL BITCH CLONE who DESTROYED THE UNIVERSE and KILLED ALL OF YOU. And they were all like, "sorry, but she's our friend now." WTF!!!!!!
Anyway, we had a swordfight, left the school, and she went off to do adventures with them, and I've been training to kill my evil clone for the last year or so, because she's my evil clone. She's like objectively evil. She killed my dad. She DESTROYED THE UNIVERSE. But now she's all like, ohhh I'm so sorry I did all of that, that was really messed up of me, I had just been created and I didn't know right from wrong and I was scared you were going to dematerialize me, I'm better now, I'm going to leave you alone, please stop following me around and trying to kill me, I don't think about you at all, etc etc. AKA she is MANIPULATING MY FRIENDS after STEALING THEM from me. I just need to kill her. When I kill her, she won't be able to hurt anyone ever again. And then my friends will realize she was manipulating them. Anyway, I did a monologue at my evil clone about all of this and she told me I was an asshole and to leave her alone. Obviously I'm in the right here, but I thought I'd ask anyway, AITA?

Hello. I'm very new to DC as in I only got into it as of April of this year and it started the animated YJ side then moved into the comics. I don’t know a lot and I'm really confused about somethings. I do plan on reading the comics but for now that just seems really intimidating so I'm sticking with fics. I really am loving Sunshine Falling but I want to know about Thad and Preston bc they haven't shown up in the show and I'm so new I don't know where to look. Are they canon characters?
I know I keep saying how much I am stunned when people (comic fans) say they don't know who Thad is and then I remember you gotta start somewhere. While the Young Justice animation is excellent, it is an entire alternative universe to the comics in it's own world with it's own history and thus everything you have seen should be taken with some caution.
Thad and Preston are canon comic characters.
Preston Lindsay
Tumblr media
Preston is one of Bart's best civilian friends and he shows up in issue #1 and is a reoccurring character throughout the majority of Bart's series.
He's a great friend to Bart and accepts him for who he is and thinks he's the coolest even if one of the first thoughts he had about him was that he was a JERK.
Tumblr media
He gets over the chilliness very quickly.
We learn throughout the comics that he is an aspiring director, he loves films and he makes movies in his free time sometimes coopting his friends in his projects. He also LOVES comics and is partial to After-Life Avenger.
Tumblr media
He's supposed to have BROWN eyes, ignore the fucking blue eyes istg.
Preston also becomes Bart's very first 'big case' where Bart had to choose to do the right thing over protecting his own secret identity. Preston is a battered child and the whole story unfolding around that can be read in issue #6 (probably one of the BEST issues in all of Impulse imho).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bart saw Preston being abused in his home as Impulse, not as Bart Allen, so when he was prepared to report it he would essentially have to out himself. Bart chose (obviously) to help his friend rather than keep quiet to preserve his identity.
Preston and Bart grew VERY close after this issue.
Some other highlights from Preston include;
The time he got "shot" by toxic waste dumpers and he thought it was the coolest thing.
Tumblr media
"One of those guys shot me? Oh, boy!" Then Bart's soul just departs his body in guilt.
Preston also thinks Bart's mom is hot, which is, y'know, a requirement for all future hero boyfriends that are bisexual.
Tumblr media
Speaking of being bi... He thinks Bart is really cool and is the BEST if you know what I mean...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"He's really great!"
Preston is 10/10 a GREAT civilian friend and I miss him dearly.
Thaddeus Thawne
To read him at his best and most interesting read Impulse issues #51-#53 and the entire Mercury Falling arc #62-#66.
Thad's history with Bart is complicated. Thus far in the comics he is firmly on the side of villain/nemesis (and an extremely successful one). Regardless of no matter how much he should have had redemption, or how much one was already set up.
He's a clone of Bart and fulfills the "evil twin" trope. He was created first and foremost to be a weapon and an agent of misery to fuel nihilistic spite and hatred. It's complicated, and the short-hand version of it is the Thawne line is entrenched in a one-sided blood feud with the Allen line for overall petty comic reasons that are justifiable to them.
Tumblr media
Thad had no say in this and did not even know there was another option... Until the Mercury Falling arc where he got a taste of something he never had while impersonating Bart... love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thad in particular bonded with Helen and described her as "so full of warmth" and as a person who loved him, and as someone who he genuinely liked. Thad also felt love from Max and was strongly swayed away from his "task" just by experiencing their love as well as Bart's friends' love.
Unfortunately...
Tumblr media
"Condemning those who condemned him to this and solitary single-minded existence!" - That alone was the launch into a redemption arc, but no we can't have fucking nice things.
In a perfect world Thad would have come back. Max would be willing to accept to him back and he did offer to take him in when he learned that Thad had been impersonating Bart all along. There would be a little tension, some acclimating, and an entire issue could center around Bart and Thad finally trusting each other after mutually sucking to communicate or something.
We... did not get this.
His interest and character development plummets after Mercury Falling, and his highlights afterwards include successfully murdering Bart, and then suffering a fate worse than death via Wally who took all his speed and turned him into a living statue reminding everyone that the Flash Family is more like the Flash Mafia and you don't fuck with them.
So that is a rundown of these two and where to read about them Preston is in so many issues it's hard to pinpoint single issues but Thad's "run" is easier to single in on.
I am so very glad you enjoyed them in my fic.
They are going to be just fine together.

For the ship bingo: Fizzmodeus and Catradora! - @blitzwhore
Tumblr media
This one's for Fizzmodeus. First time I've ever actually gotten a bingo on one of these. This isn't my absolute favorite ship for Fizz and Ozzie...anyone who knows me knows what that ship is, but I also know there's very, very little chance that my ship would ever be canon, and to be honest, Fizzmodeus is so precious, I'm not even going to imagine complaining. I will admit, they didn't really grow on me until we got more focus on them in Season 2; when we met them properly at the end of Season 1, I obviously thought their song was a major bop and they played off each other perfectly, but never really felt strongly about the implications that they were in a relationship with each other. But then we got to see them together in private and man did they steal my heart. They may actually be my favorite of the definitely canon (or definitely going to be canon at some point) ships at this point.
Tumblr media
Catradora. This one probably requires some explanation, since a couple of the spots are ones where they come close to how I feel, but not exactly? Namely the "like in fanon, but wouldn't want it to be canon", because with that, it's more that I think I kind of prefer the way I've seen a lot of fans handle the relationship, combined with having to admit that with how things went in canon....I did kind of want them to get together in-universe, but I don't think I'm ever going to fully be convinced that they should have gotten together at the end with how everything had gone with their dynamic (and just personal character arcs, especially for Catra) up until then. Like, this ship really is the whole reason I came to realize that, for me, if you have a character who is supposed to get a redemption arc....you can't try combining it with them getting together with their love interest, who was also on the side they were initially against. Not unless you are very, very, very careful with how you handle it. And that's not even going into some of the other things. So I think I really like the ship in concept, and ship them because they're canon and I don't really have any alternative fanships I like more for either of them, but I don't....love the canon execution of the ship?

For the AU you won't write ask meme - Andromaquynh Doctor Who AU with one of them the Master and the other the Doctor <3
ohhh bestie it's been forever and a day since I watched doctor who with any regularity and there are people in this fandom massively better placed than me to be outlining this au
If I were to do it though I think Nile would be the new companion, Andy would be burnt out tf but still going because literally the fuck else is she supposed to do?
And Quynh would be in a black hole. Trapped in the event horizon, no way out, Andy thinks she's dead or as good as, Nile doesn't know anything about her but sometimes at night the dark corners of the tardis echo with a noise almost but not quite like a scream
and I think it would come to a head when the tardis picks up a signal from a research vessel a light-year out from the black hole that swallowed Quynh and her tardis - far too close and no clear reason for being there at all, Andy and Nile land to see what's going on.
What's going on is a mutiny in process. Joe and Nicky are researchers on board the vessel who were just trying to study the strange signal coming out of the black hole, Booker however is just trying to find a way to get home after he was exiled from his home colony. Enter Copley, who wants to know if the outgoing signal is an indication that alternate universes can be reached through this black hole and if so can he find his wife there, and Merrick, who has credits for eyes and wants to get his claws in whatever's calling out from the void first.
So Andy and Nile obviously step in to save the boys, Merrick gets chucked in the black hole, booker and Copley have their back half of the episode redemption arc, and Quynh?
Quynh exploits the proximity of the tardis to eject her own from the event horizon, roaring back into the universe full of sound and fury.
And then she chases Andy across time and space, while Andy chases her right back.

The buckleys coming back will add great to buck breakdown arc but I'm curious as to how theyre gonna play it with them visiting. Like there reason there in town i jee0yun birthday or idk I cant see it being injured buck though.
Hey Nonnie
The Buckley parents being back is going to be so so good I just know it!
We have zero knowledge about why they're back, or even in what form their return is going to take - all we have to go on is a couple of costumes and Oliver mentioning them being back in a couple of interviews, but there are so many options to explore.
Obviously they're going to be back because both Buck and Maddie have unresolved trauma to deal with in relation to their parents, and this plays into the narrative for their characters this season parenthood - for Maddie its exploring her breaking the cycle (and not breaking the cycle at the same time because she already did it with Buck) and learning how to be a good parent - the kind of parent her own weren't for her (or Buck), its about showing us the contrast between what Maddie is doing to raise Jee-Yun in a loving home and what she experienced as a child herself.
As for Buck - well his parents are the route of all of his trauma - they are why he's never felt wanted or like he is deserving of love or peoples time, that he's worth more than 'defective spare parts' and that he has worth. his parents need to return for him to reach any sort of resolution.
I personally am of the opinion that Buck will have to accept that he will never get from his parents what he so desperately craves - that there is no real redemption for his parents and no salvaging his relationship with them (or indeed building one with them in the first place) and that season 6 is going to ultimately be about him recognising this and that he has worth without their love or approval. That is where his true growth lies, because once he accepts this he can heal (healing and growth isn't always about getting to somewhere mutually - I think his parents are too far gone into their grief and self obsession to be able to grow with Buck - unlike we've seen from Ramon or Toni or even Beatrice) and begin to recognise his worth and the love of those around him. The familial love of the firefam and the romantic love he's been growing with Eddie without truly understanding it.
This all then ties into him breaking the cycle of parental love - with him realising/ understanding and acknowledging that he doesn't have to give a part of himself away (his sperm) to have worth - or for someone else to get to be a parent (because I'm convinced that a part of the reason Buck said yes to being a sperm donor is because he thinks that a a child with his DNA has a better chance of having good parents if he isn't involved - (i'm going to word this terribly) because he grew up with bad parents and so in his mind he would also be a bad parent - so in his mind he's subconsciously thinking that they'll be loved in a way he wasn't growing up - and that is better than him raising his own child) in his place. He's also going to really begin to realise that he's already broken that cycle - that he's been raising a child - Christopher - and that his parental love isn't conditional on DNA etc.
As for context of their visit - we don't even know if it is a visit - it appears that they're filming in another life at the moment which could very much be an exploration of an alternate universe - where Buck was able to save Daniel and he grew up loved and wanted by his parents and with two older siblings - if this is the case, it will all play into what Buck needs to learn about himself in order to move on.
If we're not entering the realms of AU, then anything to do with Jee-Yun is a possibility - a birthday etc, or perhaps with Maddie and Chim moving into a new house - theres a house warming of some sort. Its also possible that they find out about Buck donating sperm and decide to pay a visit for that reason, perhaps they come at Bucks request because of something he reads in a self help book - or as part of his year of yes, or there is the option that the show could choose to pick up on the joint therapy from season 4 again. Honestly there are so many reasons for them to visit that it's hard to begin to parse it out with the little information we have.
I'm not prepared to dismiss the idea of it being for injured Buck though because I think there are a few interesting ways to take that as well - in fact I rather like the idea of injured Buck being the reason they visit - as if they're trying to show willing on that front (from their lack of it in previous times) and it leading to arguement between them and Buck and subsequently to Buck accepting that they won't change and that he can stop putting effort into his relationship with them etc. In many ways I actually think this would be an interesting way to take things because it allows for the exploration of so many aspects of who Buck is and why he's the way he is, and hell this direction could also include the AU aspect - if its as a result of Buck being in a coma or something!
What I do know is that the show will surprise us and it will be very impactful and move Bucks story forward in a lot of ways! I can't wait!

Is One Bad Day: Two-Face canon? I guess I just assumed that between it not matching up with the stuff coming out at the same time and the Riddler OBD being a weird alternate universe, it wasn't canon either, but I don't really know what's up with it or how canon even works right now.
Here's why I think Mariko Tamaki intended it to be canon. Early on in OBD:TF, a seemingly-reformed Harvey has a meeting with Christopher Nanako, the current Mayor of Gotham who rose to prominence during the recent Joker War event, which was also when Harvey was redeemed in Peter Tomasi's Detective Comics run. So Nanako's presence indicates that this is firmly established in current canon.
Tumblr media
What screws up this as canon is the ending, where Harvey is revealed to be not only still be EVIL ALL ALONG, but also that he's always been irredeemable and Batman's a fool for holding out hope, so he's sent to Blackgate Prison en route to Arkham.
But here's the thing: Harvey and Nanako have already interacted in the TFZ prequel, "Road to Task Force Z," which want as a backup in Mariko Tamaki's own run of Detective. The shadowy figure speaking with Nanako about setting up TFZ is obviously meant to be Harvey, who is later revealed to be the team leader.
Tumblr media
Given how Harvey's own redemption/backslide arc plays out in TFZ, there's no way he'd have been allowed into that position after the shit he pulled in OBD:TF. So I think Tamaki intended OBD:TF to be canon, regardless of what was happening with Harvey elsewhere.
Here's what going to be the real test, as far as I'm concerned. When DC publishes bios of Two-Face in their official encyclopedias and whatnot, which version of his father will they choose? I can easily imagine them still using Tamaki's version, despite how the rest of the story doesn't fit at all.

Why did you become interested in Azutara and what made it your OTP. What does it have that other ships lack ?
Hello PD thank you for the excellent question :)
I love talking about Azutara so much. Okay, so I actually started out the fandom more on the team "I don't ship Azula with anyone I just want her to heal & get better I don't care about romance for her."
The first story I wrote for Avatar that I felt I had a good grip on the characters was The Benefits of Getting a Flat Tire. That was primarily a Zuko/Sokka story with a strong focus on Zuko & Azula healing their relationship & getting away from Ozai. I set out to write a Zukka fic. Azula wasn't in a romantic relationship with anyone & I didn't intend for her to be in a romantic relationship with anyone in it. Then I wrote her interacting with Katara & the sparks just flew & I knew I had to write an Azutara sequel :)
I shipped Zuko/Katara before I ever entered the fandom or watched the show to be totally honest with you. I didn't know that much about it but I knew vaguely about the show & I knew that Zuko was an angsty villain with a redemption arc & Katara was the main hero girl so like. I have a type I assumed I would be really into that ship lmao
& I really loved Zuko & Katara's life-changing adventure, I thought it was filled with great characterization for Katara & explored her grief & rage & it was just a really powerful character moment for Katara. So naturally, when I wrote that sequel, I thought "hm how about a story focused on Katara wanting revenge on her mother's killer but instead of Zuko helping her it's Azula?"
& from there I started to realize how much Azula & Katara could help each other, how their trauma with family (a missing mother figure, a distant father figure) is similar but also so different. I've talked a lot about how Azula & Katara are narrative foils & how Avatar has such a strong focus on foils reconciling with one another & on personal growth & redemption & healing but it always bears repeating. I think that Azula & Katara connecting with one another is just a natural & beautiful direction for both of their stories to take.
Also, they're just such FUN characters to write. Azula is very obviously my favorite character there's no denying it if you look at my blog lol & I can get behind shipping her with many different characters (I've come so far from shipping her with no one lmao) because she's uniquely smooth & awkward at the same time. She's confident & also filled with insecurity. She's deeply traumatized in ways that will forever impact her every relationship platonic & romantic. & the thing is - Katara is too! (oh wow this topic is so relevant to the upcoming chapter of OGITAW lol) Katara is someone who could understand Azula both because Katara is so emotionally intelligent AND because Katara herself is in many ways "damaged."
In canon, the idea of these two child soldiers reconciling & healing & growing together is so beautiful. In an alternate universe, these two girls who are such complex & interesting characters interacting just has ENDLESS possibilities.
They have pretty much opposite ways of viewing the world (Azula is cold & rational & pragmatic Katara is emotionally driven & righteous & idealistic) which provides opportunities for both conflict AND working together. It's just so fun to write about them being drawn to each other & unsure about each other & even hating each other or going from hate to love.
Thank you for giving me the excuse to ramble!! :) 💖💖 Also, I linked my own fics & posts so much in this lmao I don't mean to be narcissistic I'm just sharing my views & how they came about ya know etc. But I'll still link just a few of my favorite Azutara authors who are not me anyway because the Azutara fandom is amazing & deserves all the love x x x

Okay okay but if we wanna go hard on Cyrus' semi-forced redemption arc + trainsetshipping angst just listen
So Iris(and potentially Hop and Leon cuz if Ingo was researching family trees he'd find out about them too and get that Family Reunion Going) all clearly mostly resemble Laventon. Dark skin, purple motif, smiles abound and all that, and sure they each have some of Cyllene in them too, maybe a steel-y gaze or determined air, but it's more personality than anything visual, right?
Except Cyrus ofc, and at first the resemblance is a bit uncomfortable given how much bad shit he did + whatever he'd been through that made him take the path he did(which also mirrors Cyllene because she clearly didn't have any easy life) so it's a long-ish time before the visual association is anything but bittersweet/disappointing/painful or like a window into a weird alternate universe where Cyllene didn't end up okay in the end...until things start to turn and the good starts to stick(as the good place said, people improve when they are given love and support and Cyrus does get that as he makes amends and changes for the better) and thus more of Cyllene's good side comes through until, hopefully, one day Cyrus actually smiles and it's so obviously Cyllene's smile that it just HITS Ingo like a runaway train(pun intended)
And he legit has to leave the room and go collect himself because he was surrounded by all of these reminders of Laventon which were all in the faces of his decendants who were happy and had optimism and reasons so be positive and smile and it made it easier to get used to, but he really never had much of any positive visual reminder of Cyllene so seeing her smile, something that was already so rare and he truly NEVER thought he'd see again...it's just too much at first.
And if you wanna get EXTRA angsty with it ofc as Cyrus, who really was already so obsessed with legacy, slowly realized how badly he really fucked up and how upset his ancestors would actually be with him, he kinda assumed he would never really be compared to them in a positive light, like there wasn't thing he could do to truly be worthy of their legacy or even of being their descendant, so this hits extra hard and he's upset because like isn't this what Ingo wanted? He wanted him to get 'better' and find happiness while making up for his mistakes? So why is he all moody now that Cyrus IS happy?
Which Ingo has trouble explaining because Emotions but eventually he gets it across that like, he's not upset and this is good and maybe just says like "for a moment you looked so much like her" and it's just a Double Fuckin' Whammy of emotions and bittersweet healing after so much loss and hurt and mistakes
Yeah hold on I have to go cry now brb gonna become a puddle

WIP: The Core Four
Tumblr media
Notes about the characters, the novelization, and the art under cut
Between assignments for work I’ve decided to Novelize (or serialize—I’m going to be posting on Royal Road once I have the first book done) our Campaign(removing DnD IP—there isn’t a lot of it, we mostly Homebrew—and replacing it with original content). We have a group chat where I share my notes/outlining with the crew and they give me input on their characterizations and what they think would be cool(I’m using our game notes only as a timeline; obviously what’s fun to PLAY isn’t necessarily satisfying to read)—so I’m adding a lot of dives into their interpersonal relationships and thoughts that we didn’t get a chance to actually cover in game.
It’s been so amazing and nostalgic starting this; we’ve been on hiatus for so long now that revisiting the characters and story this way is almost like playing it all over again. 10/10 wonderful experience.
(P.S. This picture of them in their early days is actually a little sad, because by the end of Book Three—where we have played up to—Balasar has ceased to be, Yevelda has died, and Insouciance is still up in the air. Mel is an NPC in my chapter of the campaign now, and suffers from the weight of being the last one left standing; sketching this picture emphasized that for me)
From Left to Right:
Insouciance: Tiefling(Curse-Blood in the Novelization) Dream Druid. His theming by the end is most definitely “Pestilence” (starting with befriending and training many many rats in Waterdeep-Now Guldor’s Peak; culminating in the way his body metabolized the diseases he got from drinking the Pit-Fiend blood). His deceased alternate universe self (Corpse—a PC of his from a different campaign I ran; he’s actually a ghost possessing his own body because he isn’t ready to let go of it) is out to get his body, because it’s FRESHER. Insouciance has struggled with being possessed and other things taking his body when he steps out of it(dream Druid stuff) leading to Corpse’s obsession.
Balasar: Half-Dragon Cleric/Paladin(calling him a “War Priest” in the Novelization) with Amnesia who believes himself to be a Dragonborn(Dragonguard in the book) due to the farmers who rescued him misinterpreting what he is(his wings were ripped off in his escape—leading to the amnesia). He committed atrocities for the Militia the farmers belonged to—murdering many innocent curse-bloods—before his god stripped him of his holy powers. He’s wandered for years in search of atonement—which is also why he looks after Mel and Insouciance(not knowing that Mel, as a Spirit-Bard and unknowingly a Demi-Demon, can hear the screams of the Curse-Bloods he’s killed). He is actually the son of a famed Dracolich(Specifically Dourgothoth in the game, but Inhave to change that for the Novel). His father is obsessed with producing a powerful enough heir that he can take over his body. Balasar’s character arc begins with his atonement via Mel’s help, his first taste of Dragon Blood that kickstarts his descent, culminating in his growing obsession with power eventually calling his father’s disembodied spirit to him. Due to what location the party is at when that happened, instead of taking Balasar over, he and the Dracolich merged into one being—a new God of Balance—Sibuna. Balasar’s relationship with Meliora serves to lampshade the “Love Redeems All” trope and turn it on its head—Balasar’s god literally returned his power to him because he loves/d her, but AFTER that redemption Balasar proves unworthy.
Meliora: Tiefling(Curse-blood) Spirit Bard/Necromancy Wizard. Her theming is “Love”. She is the sweetheart of the group—already a wanderer by the time she meets them. Since she was a child, she’d practice her music in the graveyard near her home, and the ghosts there granted her the ability to see and communicate with them. This power grew with her, and is genuinely overwhelming if she is sober(she chews a root that gets her stoned in her realm—smokes weed when she ends up on Earth, to allow herself to block out all but the most eager/powerful spirits unless she’s actively searching). Me tends to be drawn to characters who desperately want to be loved (she chooses to “worship” a Chimera and arrange “worshippers” for it instead of killing it, her whole relationship with Balasar, befriending Mordakhesh-who will be renamed, and befriending Trevor). She does not believe in Good and Evil, so she is a firm believer in Second Chances. Unbeknownst to her(this is something the other DM and I came up with late in the campaign) she is NOT a standard Curse-blood. Her Great-Great-Grandfather is actually a demon; he and his wife fell in love(long, very fun, story) and as a result of their story she was cursed that “Any descendants of hers are damned to hell”, so the couple got around that be HAVING DEMONIC CHILDREN. This makes Mel a Demi-Demon, due to her blood lineage(she was also born in Hell—since the other DM decided that her home-town is ACTUALLY the Sixth Circle of Hell in this universe). Demons typically embodying a human emotion(typically a sin), Mel is the embodiment of Love—especially the sticky kind(the kind the parents of serial killers have for their children—undeserved love—because “Love” tends not to be about who “Deserves” it). At the end of book three the party is at a festival in Mel’s hometown; unaware of the dangers that await the party back on Earth; Mel opts not to go back with them, deciding it’s time to move on with her own journey—not aware until some time later that Yevelda and likely Insouciance(we haven’t actually played that session yet—my friend who plays Yevelda has just decided in advance that she wants her to die there) died without her.
Yevelda: Half-Orc(Half-Goliath—half-GIANT in the novel) Barbarian. Yevelda has no memories before waking up alone and scared as a child in Waterdeep(Guldor’s Peak); growing up as an orphan, she was forced to become strong to take care of herself—making a name for herself as one of the best bounty hunters in the city. A BIG part of the Campaign’s narrative was the fact that she is ACTUALLY the secret Heir to a kingdom in a far away universe(her mother being the recently deceased Queen). We find this out when her estranged brother sends a powerful demonic assassin(Mordakhesh) to kill her(he levels Guldor’s Peak in his first attempt). Yevelda represents the desire to lead a simple life in spite of the narrative coming for her ass. After coming to Earth and eventually being forced to fight her brother(having memories sporadically come back to her) she wants nothing more than to return to Guldor’s Peak and settle down. Unfortunately, she never makes it.

Manic and Panic headcannons (+Puppet)
I am in a Dawko craze rn so I'm making headcannons for a 2-3ish year old pilot
General things
Darkest desire 2 never happened
The year is around the 1990's to early 2000's
The location would be FNAF 1 then go to FNAF 2
there are versions of CG5, DAgames and DHeusta (who'll probably make some minor appearances)
this universe is connected to FNAF The Musical's universe but now Matt is just a higher up employee, Mark is also night guard and Nate is a a partial technician, composer and night guard.
Manic/Dawktrap
he is still partially in Glitchtrap's control but he has moments where he isn't
he doesn't care if he's called either Manic or Dawktrap
he is the most "American" character
he'll whistle and hum darkest desire
he is very unpredictable
if his eyes are more pink in color, he's under the influence of glitchtrap (+he will probably get more violent)
and if his eyes are more blue, he old conscious has more control
he's a silly, goofy and stabby guy
he is also very bad socially (and if there's some point where him and Panic get along....he would be the most awkward person)
he loves checking the animatronics and how they work
he is kind of like a well-known guy in Freddy's (with the other employees)
has an odd fondness for Panic ("this guy is hard to kill, wonder why?") but he loves harassing him
(inspiration by someone's headcannon) anytime he goes past a camera, he and the camera glitches
if he is strong enough in the moment, he can mind control others
^Now I realize he reminds me of Hyde from The Glass Scientists^
Panic / Nightguard Dawko
His name is Lou but Manic would call him Panic and now other people call him that know (he's to nervous to correct anyone)
deathly afraid of Manic (would take everything to be friends with him in the possible redemption arc)
he is horrible in social situations but somehow is friends with CG, DA and DH
he's a very weak spirited person
he's skiddish and has a shit ton of anxiety bc of Manic
he's actually the taller of the two (6'2 / Dawko's height)
best reflexes in the entire cast (lmao)
as a kid, he had dreamed of becoming a preformer and a singer ^ (little showtime Dawko ref)
^ he obviously didn't achieve it but he does try to write songs with his friends as a side hobby
he has a really shitty therapist (who Manic secretly k!lls at some point)
he is the most competent security guard but also kinda is the worst
Poopet / Puppet Dawko
(yes I know he isn't part of the pilot but he is part of this au)
He is an alternate and more humanoid version of the puppet animatronic
He isn't possessed but partially programmed by the og puppet
He doesn't talk but does know sign language
he has a Freddy plushie in his box (the plush is unknowingly possessed by 8-Bit Ryan)
He enjoys watching the employees after hours
he works better with children bc of the more humanoid design
the song for the music box is a version of Like it or not
his is 6'8 (not most people know bc he is usually sitting inside of his box)
he/they pronouns
he will always protect people in need
Relationships or just general stuff w/ the major and minor cast members
1. Manic and Panic
Panic is very afraid of Manic and thinks of him as a horrible and creepy thing
While Manic is very intrigued by the sheer luck and cowardice Panic has. But also wants to kill him
Will this become an eventual friendship...idk
2. M&P with the Puppet
Manic absolutely hates Poopet (he gave him the nickname), he hates that they always get in the way and keep protecting Panic
Puppet almost equally hates Dawktrap, they know he is a murderer and is trying to harm innocent people
Panic used to be scared of Puppet before he realized that they would protect him, and now they're friends
3. Manic with the others
Manic doesnt have an opinion with Panic's friends other than that they would be fun to harass or control. But, CG, DA and DH all hate him for trying to kill their friend and causing a lot of his mental health issues.
Manic finds Matt interesting with all of his conspiracy theories about the restaurant chain and that he has a pretty interesting backstory to hear (and vice versa).
Manic wants to kill Mark so bad but he won't yet
Manic finds Nate fun (that's it)
4. Panic with the others
He absoluetly loves his friend group and they love him too
Panic and Matt are also good friends and tney love to discuss theories but bc if their roles, they don't have time too see each other.
Panic is also good acquaintances with Mark, they like hanging out with Matt
Panic kinda admirers Nate for his music but he's to afraid to talk to him about it

one thing that i hope would get addressed in the future more is how bon (and bien) affect the relationship media and jacques have, considering b4 they were officially together they obviously disagreed on how to go about taking care of the two, w/ media pretty much just being flat out abusive (and while jacques was indisputably better it seems implied he was only better relative to media, not that he is actually a good parent)
ch6 in particular with bon and their ptsd flashback/vision thingy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
rpp l*ves this sort of vague "is this a dream? a memory? an alternate timeline? who knows!" scenes but imo the best way to interpret this is definitely a traumatic flashback that got triggered by the margibird harassing them
media is shown as being more sinister ofc, and the way he smiles in images w/ bon is noticably different from the more genuinely pleasant way he smiles around jacques, compared to jacques who in bons memories looks more passive relative to media, and in that second image clearly miserable
the thing is, if this is based on bons perception of things, its worth to note that jacques is even in these memories at all-although jacques is the "better" parent it does seem that to an extent bon associates him with the abuse they went through even if they dont necessarily blame him for it (altho i wouldnt be surprised if they did, even if only with some hesitation, bcuz in the end proj maldevaran wasnt even started by media, it was jacques idea)
idk if its intentional symbolism but the way jacques is smaller and further away inside the picture in that second one most likely is meant to symbolize medias greater influence in their previous home life over him but i wonder if it also symbolizes how compared to the beginning (the first picture) as time went on jacques became more neglectful and distant from bon, leaving them to fend for themselves to the marginals out of his own fear or passiveness
i think i posted about it in an older post b4 that their conversation in i1 hints to it, that bon resent jacques somewhat even if they dont rly hate him, or at least jacques believes bon resents him, and i can only think of his question if bon forgives him to be about two things (probably both at once) the first is obviously his role in proj-maldevaran, the second might be the fact that jacques willingly stays with media knowing what kind of person he was/is
also, even tho media had his self proclaimed "redemption arc" when he sent the cake for biens birthday, honestly the shitty haphazard cake (written in ink no less) coupled with the fact that media can literally poof things into existence and would have no problem just making, u kno, a decent cake does imply even tho he seems better than he used to he does have low opinions of bon in general
marginals r said to canonically hate the other immortals, even each other, but actually now that i think about it i wonder if marginals dislike demons in particular bcuz marginals r dead universes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the real meaning of the margibird monologue is smthng that isnt confirmed yet afaik but just based on what we know this is likely something reflecting the marginals belief about bon/demons, considering its talking about things that persist after a demon causes the apocalypse and kills the whole universe (aka marginals)
personally bcuz this monologue triggers bon to think particularly abt media this might even be smthng media said that the bird just repeats. altho this margibird came from curators gallery, idk if its supposed to mean its from curators world or w/e? i think this might be smthng media says during one of the experiments done on bon, which we know media, curator and security did together so maybe curator just remembers hearing it. it could be from curator herself too but i find that less likely just bcuz bons memories of their trauma centers so much around media and theres enough in the siu mv that implies curator might have been the only marginal who actually had some level of care for them
all that said i think its likely media just doesnt like demons bcuz demons kill universes and the marginals dont rly... like being dead lmaooo??
well anyway back to my original point i think theres probs some tension between media and jacques regarding their past w/ bon, and i wonder if part of why jacques feels so ambivalent around media is the realization that the reality of his childhood idol "evil monster" crush being an evil monster means he likes fucking over mentally ill kids

(If you've already done this another time that I'm not aware of, feel free to disregard.) Alright, the time has come, Mel. When you have the time and inclination, I challenge you to construct a framework for a Teen Wolf AU with the Robin Hood characters, like their roles and stuff. To me, a lot of things could shift based on who you pick to be your Scott & Stiles--like you could definitely go with Robin & Much and that'd be great (especially bc then Allan would make a good Isaac and I could continue to have all the Robin & Allan/Scott & Isaac feels; but that's just me, this is your AU!). Another idea you could go with is Will & Allan as your Scott & Stiles, and things would probably shake out quite differently then. I'm hoping this is something you'd have lots of fun with--and be super excellent at, given all your recent rewatches--so I don't want you to feel boxed in by RH canon age relationships or dynamics! I know that's easy for my 'playful' low Ne to say to your high Ni, but I'm really curious to hear your take on this, so hopefully this sounds like an enjoyable idea/distraction to you too!
HI EMILY. =p
I am going to have to think on this for a bit. It's a very intriguing idea, to be sure! Were you thinking TW characters taking on RH characters' roles a) within the context of the TW 'verse or b) within the RH 'verse?
