Drawtober 2023 day 2: Spider (lily)

Day1

i love when words fit right. seize was always supposed to be that word, and so was jester. tuesday isn't quite right but thursday should be thursday, that's a good word for it. daisy has the perfect shape to it, almost like you're laughing when you say it; and tulip is correct most of the time. while keynote is fun to say, it's super wrong - i think they have to change the label for that one. but fox is spot-on.

most words are just, like, good enough, even if what they are describing is lovely. the night sky is a fine term for it but it isn't perfect the way november is the correct term for that month.

it's not just in english because in spanish the phrase eso si que es is correct, it should be that. sometimes other languages are also better than the english words, like how blue is sloped too far downwards but azul is perfect and hangs in the air like glitter. while butterfly is sweet, i think probably papillion is more correct, although for some butterflies féileacán is much better. year is fine but bliain is better. sometimes multiple languages got it right though, like how jueves and Πέμπτη are also the right names for thursday. maybe we as a species are just really good at naming thursdays.

and if we were really bored and had a moment and a picnic to split we could all sit down for a moment and sort out all the words that exist and find all the perfect words in every language. i would show you that while i like the word tree (it makes you smile to say it), i think arbor is correct. you could teach me from your language what words fit the right way, and that would be very exciting (exciting is not correct, it's just fine).

i think probably this is what was happening at the tower of babel, before the languages all got shifted across the world and smudged by the hand of god. by the way, hand isn't quite right, but i do like that the word god is only 3 letters, and that it is shaped like it is reflecting into itself, and that it kind of makes your mouth move into an echoing chapel when you cluck it. but the word god could also fit really well with a coathanger, and i can't explain that. i think donut has (weirdly) the same shape as a toothbrush, but we really got bagel right and i am really grateful for that.

grateful is close, but not like thunder. hopefully one day i am going to figure out how to shape the way i love my friends into a little ceramic (ceramic is very good, almost perfect) pot and when they hold it they can feel the weight of my care for them. they can put a plant in there. maybe a daisy.

im being so normal about the tv show cast and crew i met today and also had to say goodbye to today

Hero work is already unforgiving. It’s even more so in a tiny little town like this.

The population is less than a hundred, and one of this population is the hero.

The ‘agency’ they work for is themself, since clearly no one else is willing to do it. They can see why, though. Their most busy day had them chasing down a pair of thieves, which took all of an hour, if you include the lunch break they had halfway through.

Criminals don’t seem particularly interested in doing their deeds in a little place like this. There isn’t really anything worth doing crime for—the petrol station is the most expensive place in town, and that’s because the prices there are already criminally high.

So if there’s no criminals, there’s somehow even less villains.

The hero envies the heroes in the city, to be honest. They’re working day in day out, keeping villains in line and ensuring the safety of their cities. It must be nice, to feel useful. Villains laugh and actually fight, and the heroes take them down every time. The most the hero gets here is a teenager avoiding school and a stolen chocolate bar, really.

So it’s a surprise, to say the least, when a building explodes on the other side of town. The hero hears it from their tiny little home office. They can only sit there in confusion for a moment, staring at the rising smoke, before they lurch into action. They’re a hero. They need to go and figure out what’s going on. There might even be someone to save if they’re lucky.

‘The other side of town’ constitutes a two minute run. People are huddled around the remaining dregs of the building, nervously eyeing the smouldering rubble. Police are already dragging out rolls of tape to cordon the place off. The hero approaches the nearest officer of three—the town’s entire supply of police—clearing their throat to ready their business voice. Go time.

“‘Scuse me, officer,” they open with what they hope is an air of confidence. “Could you tell me what’s going on?”

The policeman glances back at the building with a frown. “Building’s exploded,” he says like it’s obvious. Which it is, they suppose.

“Do we know what caused it? Is it foul play?” The hero tries to keep the hope out of their voice, but from the scowl the officer gives them they clearly failed.

“We can’t say yet. We’ll have a team heading in soon to check it out, so I suggest you just—”

Another explosion sets off from inside, gutting the building like some already horribly mangled fish. Debris flicks to the ground around the onlookers, prompting screams and hurried attempts to shield themselves. The hero stays rooted to their spot, squinting through the settling dust. The entire building is leaning to one side like it’s sagging in defeat.

“Ah,” a voice rings through the brown fog. “Is this our hero? How cute.”

No way. “Who are you?”

A bright laugh cuts through the horrified whispers of the people brave enough to stick around. High, cruel, everything the hero’s been looking for.

A figure strolls through the cloud like they’re making a debut. A soft smile sits on their lips, confident and self-satisfied. “I’m your new favourite nightmare.”

The hero can barely contain the grin threatening to split across their face.

Thinking about the time i commissioned an artist i rly liked for something and the result was kind of really catastrophic just from the preview image in the email so i just. never opened the actual image

Has anyone noticed that most artists out there only draw women and girls? Whether they’re male or female, or regardless of their sexuality, so many artists and designers only draw girls. And I think that’s really interesting to notice. My sister is an artist in her free time and she only draws girls too(in fact her only male drawing literally just looked like an androgynous woman and the only sign that it was a boy was the Mars symbol on his shirt 🤣). I’m hardly an artist(as you can probably tell 💀), but I do draw from time to time, and all my drawings are of girls too. Hell, so are all of my Picrews. In fact, speaking of Picrews, look at most of them. Look at most virtual paper doll apps in general, and see how guys are outnumbered. Anyone else ever noticed that? 

We all know girls are more attractive than boys are(half-joking for anybody about to attack me rn, I’m literally a lesbian), but I was just wondering if there were any artists out there who mostly/only draw boys, and if so, why is that? In fact, regardless of what gender you draw, tell me your reasoning for it! 😁

Also I can’t believe I haven’t made this connection until now but:

Cerebrocrustacean: “My people have a rich and complex history and culture, but most of the galactic audience boils us down to being nothing but ‘the violently bigoted xenophobes who keep destroying their own planet’ and it frustrates me to no end.”

Gourmand who’s been forced to hear the same “I can excuse cannibalism but I draw the line at marrying outside of your own race” joke over and over again: “Yeah, welcome to the club, pal.”

It's very evident when I don't think about a particular species when I have to look something up like the gourmand cannibalism, but seeing as though they have a collective pocket dimension where their stomach goes (at least that's where the logic got them in the show instead of being consumed food expelled in energy reflux), if cannibalism didn't implode the two gourmands like how bag of holding inception works then I suppose it's far better than *shudders* perk murk relationships. Got a whole 'house divided' 'alike in dignity' situation over here, Perkulet and Murktague having asses-

...You know what if I get a chance to think about gourmands in more detail I might turn that pocket dimension into a magic thing instead of a xenobiology thing that's just overall bullshit- comes free with potentially real cannibalism but like they've eaten 11 planets I think cannibalism just in general pales in comparison to what they could do-

Well, whatever cannibalism gourmands excuse and all the jokes they have to deal with about perk murk relationships being somehow much much worse, at least they don't get shoveled with 'violent bigots' that 'aren't smart enough to support their lifestyle without destroying their own planet' which well- I don't have any present headcanons as to why Encephalonus is on it's 4th edition yet but let me tell you, when cerebrocrutaceans found out the galvans lost their planet (admittedly to the Highbreed Invasion) and then galvans WEREN'T immediately assumed to have fucked up somewhere, you can bet that Dr Psychobos was one in the crowd that went absolutely livid.

this being dialogue from 2015's always watching: a marble hornets story, which is like hey this is a pretty well produced indie venture & you can sure like sit through it even if you then never watch it again b/c it's still kind of overly on the beaten path & "i'm not sure this choice is justified in much of anything" (see: bizarrely omnipresent thread of a love triangle just to be There; typical Mental Patient(tm) Harbinger; several real marked More Is Less instances arguably) that is still a better time than other random horror material i've seen & hated vs. only mostly been underwhelmed by but in an Overall Shrug way alone. yeah imdb's 4.7 out of 10 seems fair enough if you consider like 5 stars truly middle of the road solid if forgettable vs that anything < 7 stars is for [Bad!] or whatever

anyways the main character is named milo & indeed the creator(s) / actors / writers troy joseph & tim were involved in the production at all: tim at least by being the first step in doug jones's casting by reaching out directly (online), but troy & joseph also via Some writing, like in that slender game sequel also: not the Primary creators / writers, but still officially involved in the creative process at all. & i knew of them & they knew of me by this time & in a [source: dude just trust me] style of way, i, a tumblr user, am like "i think milo alwayswatching Could be named after me, milo unproduciblesmackdown. lol." b/c also like yeah i can take it on the chin if it's a coincidence, which is also likely. great name & it's just not being used enough in fictional & nonfictional people's names. you might also be aware that some role in tribetweIve is named milo (maybe the main guy. i never watched it) so you might also speculate it's named after that guy, which seems plausible also, But: afaik there are no other similar plausible shoutouts at all, to that series or to emh which was just as majorly like One Of Those 3 Biggest Online Series. may or may not add a grain of salt to take it with. like my own "of course, there's a grain of salt in 'milo just like me milo, and Uncoincidentally?' b/c how wouldn't there be. a name people have"

the dude just trust me argument: distilling it down to "i went to their first convention & then the same one the next year, & in these experiences i Know they knew of me from that + also online, where people knew my name was milo as well" and "it seems feasible enough it's an easter egg Not Coincidence that i first knew this character's name happened to also be milo b/c someone who experienced a clip sent me an ask about it, so they assumed it was a possible actual connection too lol." and, of course, it might be a fun coincidence after all. but i'm still like "yeah no it Could be a funny little shoutout to me specifically for real" and mean it and, again, i can endure it if i'm completely wrong. b/c who could care, and also b/c it's so funny that the character is a guy who basically just is like "i am going to have a bad attitude. b/c of the insistent tiresome love triangle thing. well now I'm insistently tiresome" and fucking everything up but like, sure. exasperating epic fail protagonists

the only relevance i think it has besides "to me, b/c i can go haha yeah. that might be like: just like me!!" is that it's Also plausible b/c yeah marble hornets Is the kind of series that might go "this could be an easter egg about some queer autistic tumblr user we know about" lmao, its Inherent Queerness both re: the material and in the creators' knowledge like yep that's how our Appreciators skew! like it's low stakes to be like [lol, Me. perhaps] b/c it's obviously of zero importance like it adds no info, i'm just some rando queer fan from back in the day, but it's this potential Fun Fact that's funny to know & it's about "yeah like they knew i was trans back then too & that it was like, amidst the MH Fans, like nobody's cishet man (shaggy rogers voice)" Gay Rights!
