#not otherhearted culture
Text
It is concerning how often folks offer up otherhearted/otherkith as an alternative to "kin" for KFFs without qualifying that recommendation with anything.
There is an extremely broad range to what KFFs call "kin". A KFF person might be otherhearted, but they could also be a whole bunch of other things instead/in addition. Otherheartedness is not the same as just liking/relating to a character, it's not the same as faceclaiming, it's not the same as RP'ing, it's not the same as 'linking or flickering or being constelic...
If someone asks for alternative phrasing to phrasing that can mean any of those things, with no way of immediately distinguishing which meaning any one person is using, just naming one of them without any sort of elaboration is a bad answer no matter how you slice it.
I worry that the same thing that has happened to "kin" may eventually happen to "otherhearted" as well as a result of that carelessness. Hell, I have already seen someone say otherhearted means the same thing as simply relating to a character.
I know giving properly nuanced answers takes more effort. I know it can be exhausting if you find yourself having to do it over and over, and god knows having to answer the same questions ad infinitum is pretty much a fundamental alterhuman experience. But giving a misleading answer isn't the solution.

Okay let's try this trend lol
5 Interactions and I'll practice quads on my trampoline (oooh)
40 Interactions and I'll make a therian patch for my crust pants
80 Interactions and I'll make a therian painting
100 Interactions and I'll actually finish my yarn tail in a whole weekend
200 Interactions and I'll tell my best friend I'm a fox therian.
(I'm really nervous, but, they're super duper accepting of neogenders and stuff, so, I hope they'll accept me!)

Hello, my name is Moon. And I'm asking you to spread the word of KOSA (Kids online 'safety' act) an awful, deceiving bill that will censor you, me, minors, and adults online alike.
How the bill works will cause social media to change in a horrible way. It will make it to where you must upload your ID publicly to prove you're old enough to view 'explicit' content.
In reality, that content is LGBTQ+ therians, resources for abuse victims, resources for abortion, resources for Palestinians, resources for sex ED, and more.
It will censor us, destory fanfiction, WHATS NEXT? Uploading private messages? Putting your IP in public?
It will end Tumblr, Fanfics, privacy.
PLEASE HELP END IT! Speak out! Stop them, reblog as much as possible! #EndKosa

hi.
so i’ve been questioning therianothy (sorry if i spelled that wrong) and need some help. i also have tons of questions! if the fellow therians could help me out, i would love that.
okay so… my questions
Am i therian if i don’t identify as one animal specifically?
Am i therian if i only feel half animal and half human?
Am i therian if i don’t experience shifts often?
Am i therian if i don’t have dreams about past lives?
what is the difference between furry, therian, otherhearted, otherkin and animal-hearted?
do you have to have a mask to be a therian?
am i therian if i have a extremely strong connection to the natural world and act like animals all the time?
do you guys have any tips for quadrobics?
edit: if you guys have any other tips or rules that would be great! ❤️
i have been having a bit of an identity crisis because of this… ugh lol. thank you guys!! love you ❤️

Daily Reminder:
- It's okay to be a common type
- It's okay to be a unique type
- it's okay not to do quads
- it's okay to only do quads
- you don't need gear
- if you do have gear, it doesn't have to be aesthetic
- disabled people can be just as therian as anyone else
- Neuro-typical and Neuro-divergent people are just as valid as each other
- therianthropy can affect varying levels of ones life
- You don't have to have shifts or get into kin-space or fit any specific definitions
- Objectkin and fictivekin are valid identities
- Fictionkin is not the same as D. I. D.
- Therianthropy in general is not a seperate identity from ones self, they're a part of ones whole self
♥︎ ! You Are Valid No Matter What ! ♥︎

hey hey, i scrolled through this blog a bit recently and got a bit confused because i'm not sure about the difference between synpath and otherhearted .
some say there isn't really a difference and others say there is.
so this isn't a question for you specifically but i thought it would reach more people to ask it here. hope you don't mind.
(also i'd like to learn more about others experiences because for some reason it's hard to find more information on synpath/otherhearted.)
I know that synpath refers exclusively to the thing identified with and not the holder of the identity, so it's more like "hearttype" than it is "otherhearted". But yeah from what I can tell, there is no consensus about whether or not having synpaths is the same as being otherhearted. I have heard some say they are the same and I have heard others say that one only need identify with one particular part/aspect of their synpath, or that synpaths are less intense.
If you have synpaths, please share your thoughts! (And anyone else who is familiar with how both terms are used in practice is welcome to chime in as well, of course.)

I may not fully understand therianthropy but as a queer autistic furry cringe culture is the mortal enemy of all things good and holy so to all therians: if some asshole makes fun of you for it I give you full permission to rip out their throat with your teeth.

New alterhuman term ? (Coat Identity)
So when it comes to determine a theriotype or any kind of type, I have a strange questioning process : I consciously choose to identify as or with an animal. I call it a "coat identitiy" because I have to "try on" an animal, kinda like clothes to be sure it fits, to see if it feels like me. For example, I'm questioning kit foxes, so for some time I’ll be like « Okay I’m kit fox now, I think kit fox, I behave kit fox. Is it natural or not ? ». This "coat identity" process is a tool to help me tell which animal identity feels right and which is unnatural. To me, it could be both a research method and a type like otherlink or animalhearted : I could say "the fox is my coat identity/coatype. It’s normal if I’m particularly fox right now, consider me a fox but be aware it could change if it doesn't feel right." -> Do you know if there is already an official term for this method/type ? And do you think we should create a new term for this ?

Alterhuman vs Nonhuman and Therian vs Otherkin
[PT: Alterhuman vs Nonhuman and Therian vs Otherkin]
Have been getting some asks dealing with what counts as what and etcetera, so thought I'd make a post to explain it!
So first...
Alterhuman and how its different from nonhuman.
[PT: Alterhuman and how its different from nonhuman)
Alterhuman refers to, in some way, having an identity that is not human. Meanwhile, nonhuman refers to people who do not have a human identity. Someone can identify as catkin, but still identify with being human. Alterhuman is also a term that basically covers the whole community of otherkin, otherhearted*, and much much more! Nonhuman is one form of alterhuman.
*Otherhearted means strongly connected or identifying with something in a way that impacts your core sense of self, however one does not identify as [as] it.
Otherkin and Therian
[PT: Otherkin and Therian]
Otherkin refers to all things relating to kin. This includes therians, though not all therians may be otherkin. While otherkin deals with all things kin, therian deals with all things animal. So someone who is cat-hearted can still be therian while not being otherkin.
There are cases where identities that are not therian can be counted as therian. Kintypes and such like robots or fictional characters are not inherently therian. However, lets say someone is an otherkin/hearted of a robot that was made in the form of animal. This then could count as a robot theriotype!
