I am once again thinking about living weapon/guard dog whumpee's....

A living weapon whumpee who is just so extremely conditioned that they will not even sleep or eat if not given permission to do so by their master

A guard dog whumpee that is meant to be at their masters side at all times and also be alert to anyone that could be a threat to them but due to having spent so much time just trapped in a tiny and sound-proofed room being tortured for god knows how long, big crowds or even just like, multiple stimuli will cause them to have sensory overload

Living weapon whumpee that is legitimately terrifying, like they have and will kill at the command of their master and will obey the whims of them without any objections as well.

Multiple living weapon whumpee's! They are all deeply conditioned but also feel a very strong kinship towards each other, even if they cannot show it due to the conditioning

And how about their caretaker's?

A caretaker that is smaller and weaker than whumpee, being unable to carry or restraint them when necessary, yet still is determined to help them

A caretaker that is younger than whumpee and is both scared of and hesitant to help them!, whumpee being completely subservient to them does not calm their fear in the slightest

A caretaker that has given up on deconditioning whumpee, simple trying keeping them in a soothed passive state, where they don't harm others or themselves, but are not healed just using their own conditioning in a different way.

Idk man, sorry if something is written weirdly, it's 3 am and English is not my first language, hope ya thought these ideas were interesting at least.

There was at one time,

A man I knew who spoke

With the crackle of a fire

Who had a cough

Like the devil himself had curled up in his lungs.

The king of a southern summer,

And composed of the cicadas sympathy.

It is from him

I acquired my dirty paws,

These blood fangs.

From him came this wagging tail,

And hanging tongue.

Where my king of summer lies,

With the worms in his oldest home,

I stay his heir.

I haunt this town like an unmuttered curse.

And when they dare speak my name,

more and more i become of the opinion my dogs are not reactive to strange dogs but in fact it is unreasonable to expect them to NOT be reactive when the dogs we pass are unwalked, understimulated rural hellions that thrash at the windows of their houses, bark at us and follow us for entire lengths of properties, snarl at us, run at us with tense body language etc.

is this because a neighbor (who does skijor!) moved in half mile down the road from us a half a year ago with the most polite, unreactive dog that my dogs glance calmly at as they walk by? as it is unrestrained (no underground fence) on the property? absolutely is.

is this because a few years ago a neighbor's very nice pitbull mix got out and when it walked up to us with polite calm body language my dogs reacted just as calm and we were able to walk this dog home? absolutely is.

like i am a human woman and have lived in areas with much larger populations than i do now. i remember being followed by strangers, yelled at by strangers in aggressive ways. it made me tense and yes...reactive in those moments to ensure my own safety and needs were met. but was it my fault for having to react that way? To call friends and family and be on the phone any time that i walked alone? to check in when i got to where i was going? to bring pepper spray and iron knuckles to walk less than 10 minutes away from home? I don't think it is. Rather it's the failure that allows that behavior towards me which is at fault. i should not have had to carry those things with me. or call a single soul.

same with my dogs. my dogs aren't reactive, i'm just the only person who walks my damn dogs in my rural neighborhood. even though we can walk for 4+ miles either way on safe dirt roads out of our driveway before we reach pavement. nobody else. walks. their. fucking. dogs. yes i manage my dogs behaviors, it can be embarrassing when they get riled up, but know what? it is not their fault so many other dogs fucking SUCK. and it is not those dogs' fault that they suck either. i encountered more politely behaved dogs when i lived in the suburbs and city than i do now because those dogs at least had some sort of experience with being around other dogs (passing them on the sidewalk even) out of necessity. Rural people truly just throw their dogs outside and expect that to be enough. if you're lucky they install a little underground fence that will maybe keep fido in the yard (like uwu WE don't want to have a look at a fence and we're going to make all our neighbors GUESS if our dog might run into the road at them uwu).

I've been wanting a collie for years now and I was wondering if in your honest opinion a collie would fit with a sort of rough but dog savy german shepherd? I have a 5 year old guy who is like bull when playing but otherwise very conflict avoidant. He's social but just rough, he trips on his own feet all the time and runs into walls, he is not just rough with others, he demolishes himself gladly as well.

I used to have two dogs but my old man died last year and now I'm debating between another shepherd, a niece of my whirlwind mostly likely, or a rough collie. I think I could manage most situations but I only ever had germans shepherds and keeshonds. So any input on collies would be great!

well bearing in mind that my collie experience so far is still only n=1 (not counting Kep bc he is brand new and still baby), I think it will depend on exactly how dog-savvy your current GSD is. You say he’s conflict avoidant which is good, but does he listen and acknowledge when dogs give him subtle disengagement cues (e.g. turning away, not returning play) or does he keep trying to entice play even when the other dog isn’t reciprocating? A lot of dogs will only back off once they’ve been loudly corrected, and tend to bulldoze over the more subtle “I’m not having fun” cues - even though the instigating dog may mean well, it’s still rude behavior and can escalate into conflict. Can you call him off other dogs easily and put him into a down/place? Collies are (generally) very sensitive about other dogs and personal space - I can tell you that Stellina, for example, is especially space-sensitive and would definitely not like living with a dog who played like a bulldozer, regardless of how it was intended. But on the other hand I know that @as-old-roads Audrey frequents dog parks and gets along with a lot of different dogs and play styles. I can’t tell you which one is the more “typical” collie, or if they’re both more outliers on different ends.

I guess overall - it really depends on how well your dog can “read the room.” If he’s good at not pushing other dogs that are disinterested in play, and can redirect/disengage easily, I think it’ll take a little bit of management but you could probably find a good fit in a collie. If he’s more of a ramrod that tends to be in Silly Mode all the time and can be pushy until told otherwise, I’d say you’ll have to be very careful with your management to avoid him overwhelming a more sensitive breed like a collie.

that said - again, n=1 and I am super not a dog trainer, so others thoughts and opinions here are very welcome.
