hello fellow comic art fans.
i am the goblin who runs this here blog. otherwise known as @jondoe297
i am extremely bummed that when i do come out and adress the followers of this blog directly it will be with this news. well. here goes:
Comic Art Showcase will indefinitely stop sharing our favorite artists' works until further notice due to the deal tumblr's owner is making with A.I. companies to sell data, enabling the theft of the works of the platform's users to scrape to train their A.I.
and here is a good article about what's going on
while for the over 5 years(!!) now that i have run this page and shared the love of comic art i am so passionate about, through ups and downs,i have kept this page strictly for doing so. not presenting any topics or ideas or even showing my own personality or linking my personal blog(even though i have been flirting with the idea recently. well i guess now is as good a time as any) i feel that if nothing else i have to use this specific platform i have,as it is,to address this topic as it is intrinsic and intertwined with this page's theme or activity. and i will not have it be an open buffet for these greedy corporations to scrape for data to feed the A.I. with which they seek to replace the very artists that i love and admire! even though it may be too late as we don't really know how long they've been doing this. well the inevitable came. and if this page is not deleted it will at least not be posted on for the time being. while we figure out what to do next.
in the meantime we can and have to all do what we can to fight for artists' and creatives' rights. if nothing else by not being a part of the theft and exploitation of them an their work. please do not use any generative A.I. programs for images or text. they work by scraping from databases of artists' and creatives' works without any permission, credit or compensation.
for now we can at least 'opt out' of having our content be shared with the A.I. companies in the settings.
keep in mind this seems to be only available on the web version and not on the app for now!
go to your blog settings from the corner here
Tumblr media
ID/image description: a screenshot of the tumblr blog with a red arrow pointed at the options button. end description.
then go to 'blog settings'
Tumblr media
ID/image description: a screenshot of tumblr blog settings with a red arrow pointing at the 'blog settings' option. end description.
then go to visibility. and turn ON the 'prevent third-party sharing' option. make sure to turn it ON not off.
Tumblr media
ID/image description: screenshot of tumblr's visibility settings with the 'prevent third-party sharing' option turned on. end description.
and you have to do this for each blog and sideblog individually so make sure to do that!
and artists make sure to use Nightshade and Glaze to protect your artwork and images!!!!
here's a link to Nightshade
here's a link to Glaze
the best combination is to use Nightshade first then Glaze on your images.
Glaze creates a protective layer on the image to prevent A.I. from copying it. while Nightshade poisons the A.I. sotfware.
stay safe friends an i will see you around❤

i am so tired of this. we are so tired of this. between Bob Iger's garbage comments, that one executive straight out sayin they'll wait out the strikes till people start losin their homes an now this. how long do they think they can keep treating the creatives they get rich off while doin nothin themselves like this? till when will they do an say whatever they want an keep gettin away with it? not long now.. not long. not anymore.
also Karla Ortiz keeps kickin butt❤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's a link to the Have I Been Trained website for you to click
ALSO! use Glaze to protect the images of your work you post!
here's a link to that as well for you
it basically creates a protective layer on the image that prevents AI from stealin it. Very important. all the info is on the site.

Honestly, this whole AI bs did so much critical damage to my emotional HP, I felt we really needed more people talking about it, so here I am!
Putting the title aside though, I’m really not here to tell you what to do, you decide what’s best for you based on your own circumstances!!
I made this post merely to calm you down, show the options and give you some hope that yes, there’s still a future for our career!
We’ll have to keep fighting for it of course, but that’s a topic for another comic, stay tuned! 👀

What better way to vent about low-effort AI-generated artwork than with a low-effort shitpost?

Messy, botched lines in very random places. Like a crappily used dip pen. This is usually found in ai trying to replicate an artstyle that is not anime.
Speaking of which, an artstyle that is almost always semi realistic airbrused anime with no stylistic changes whatsoever. This is common.
Random background choices: (Ex. Sometimes ai just makes a background very weird bubbles connecting to the "art", just a random splitscreen with two colors)
HANDS. Need no explanation.
(Relating to #2) not anime, its usually very realistic airbrushed art.
If you see two mouths, three hands or five legs, its probably ai.
(Relating to #1) Usually in ai fan"art" it really just looks off.
The ai anime eyes. Yeah you know those ones.
Weird celebrity photos
Look for ai watermarks.
Don't let ai frighten you. It will die out trying to follow the trends, trying to adapt. So keep drawing. Don't lose motivation because of these robots. I believe in you!

🇬🇧  Hello there! As usual, I'm fashionably late to the party. I owed it to myself to finish my own personal take on the "No to AI" sign... and here it finally is. 🙃 It features one of my mermaids, and I was intent on finishing this piece traditionally. AI bots scraping the net can't take the original painting away, no matter what!
As a chronically ill artist who doesn’t have much of a social life, social media is very important to me. I mostly use it to talk to other artists, look at art, and share my own. Knowing that machines are scouring these very same platforms to swallow our work and regurgitate it, allowing unscrupulous people to make money off our hard labour... is absolutely disgusting. There are currently two litigations against AI image generators, and I worry about their potential outcomes. I wish for a world where AI is used fairly and trained ethically. I want the exploitation and devaluation of artists and their work to stop. But I don't make the rules. I can do nothing but hope for the best, and keep making art when I am able.
As usual, take care, and stay safe.

Did I create this picture as an excuse to draw my favorite Smiling Critter and show that I still extremely hate AI art?
Yes, I did.
Honestly, Craftycorn is my favorite out of the Smiling Critters. For the moment Mob Entertainment released her profile, I just felt such a similar vibe from her. I wanted to draw and finish this for a long time, and with the release of chapter 3, I got the motivation I needed.
Also, I just wanted to practice drawing scary things since it's not what I usually draw.

I have no words left– you have taken them with my voice. You bleed my soul for content and tell me I should be grateful. Art is not meant to be flattery.
10,000 years ago a parent raised their child up and stenciled their hand to the wall and still I weep to see it. A cherub flips the fig to Pope Julius II, and the Sculptor’s legacy is proud and petty. History remembers how the peasant draws his king.
Art cannot be rewritten.
Art is how we scream when you take our voices. Art is how we protest, how we grieve. Art is not a pretty thing. It is the basest bits of our souls put on display and made to tell a story. You cannot have art without a soul, and so you steal mine.
I have no voice and I will scream.

i hate that every time i search a phrase like “person holding sword above head” (for drawing reference purposes) at least half of the results are ai “art”
and excluding the term “ai” from the search doesn’t even filter it out properly
i don’t want to see it at all let alone when i’m looking for human references to draw

The video accompanying this project (sorry for the non-french speakers out there ^^")
One might think that Magical Girls are a typically Japanese genre given how the country assumes the kawaii aesthetic comparing to the Occident. But like all kinds of stories, Magical Girls aren't the property of any culture and one can easily find "Western" examples like "W.I.T.C.H.", "Winx Club", "Star VS The Forces Of Evil" or "Miraculous Laydbug". And among all these examples, this month we will talk about "LoliRock" ! In my rewrite, I gave each girls a specific gemstone, some specialties in their musical career/practice of magic and affinities with some kind of elements. I take this opportunity to make a quick dedication to the creator of the series, Jean-Louis Vandestoc; and to TeamLoliRock which helped me a lot in this video's writing.
Jean-Louis Vandestoc's Instagram here.
TeamLoliRock's Tumblr here.

#boycottHarperCollins they are trying to use AI voices instead of actual human beings voice actors and pretend it's for us, so we have more product to have but it's not. It's nothing but greed on their end, I want a world full of artists and real human voices not this.
I know it can seem hopeless but remember "in a capitalistic society, it is the consumer who decides what gets made and who gets to make it merely by giving or withholding their support" AI and greedy dystopian companies can't make money if we don't give them money, hit them where it hurts and boycott and tell them why your boycotting
