I’m so sick of the abortion debate honestly. There’s no more accountability for murderers—I mean “mothers.”

This has got to be the dumbest generation ever. Era. Whatever you wanna call it. In this essay I will— jk. But am I? I might turn this into one if I really feel like it.

“My body, my choice.” Argument is complete garbage. Because the whole argument crumbles to shreds as soon as they fall into the outcome of bringing another body into the equation.

I think they forget to realize that human rights apply also to human fetuses that grow inside women. And we have science to thank for reminding us that human life begins upon conception.

So they can deny alllll they want, saying “it’s not a baby, it’s a fetus” “it’s a clump of cells” “it doesn’t have consciousness” “it’s not developed enough so therefore it doesn’t hurt the fetus”

Alllll these points are pure BS when the facts point to a fetus being alive and a LIFE worthy of finishing its development. And this means we have to advocate for these ones who can’t speak or choose life for themselves.

Human rights don’t stop at the mother who holds the baby in her womb. Human rights are spread across all sectors and are meant to be EQUAL, even among fetuses that have just been conceived.

Because every fetus is human DNA that eventually grows into a uniquely designed person. So no, the mothers choice is not more important than that baby’s choice. They are both equal.

And before you say “but the mother is the one who has to live with the consequences, while the baby isn’t even born yet.” Does that mean the baby’s human rights don’t apply until birth?

Humans rights can’t vary upon the location of the human (womb or birthed), the stage of development of the human (infant or adult), or the quality of life they have (able vs disabled) or else I’m afraid we’d be going down a slippery slope by starting this rhetoric.

The baby didn’t ask to be created. This was the result/outcome of a choice made by its mother and biological father. Babies shouldn’t have to suffer the consequences of their mothers/fathers terrible decision making process.

If we really want to get into the “my body, my choice,” argument, let’s start here: the mom gets to choose 1) if she is having sex or not (in most cases), 2) who she is having sex with, no?

[obviously I’m not referring to rape/incest cases, in which I would leave these cases in a completely separate circumstance, but argue that I still don’t think abortion is the right option.]

So on that note, why is it all of a sudden a phenomenon for pro-choice individuals to drop all accountability on mothers and give them a free pass to murder if they absolutely do have a choice?

A mothers third option, whether to keep the baby or not, is essentially deciding whether she’s going to be a murderer, violate a baby’s human right, and lose her motherhood, or keep the child.

So in conclusion, my body my choice is a fair argument, so long as you actually apply that to the baby as well. Because if a mother can’t advocate for her own baby, then who will?

In conclusion, just think about what you’re really choosing when you decide to sacrifice your baby because of an irrational decision you made. Abortions really are murder.

TEACHER RANT

75% of our kids failed the last test we had.

So we have to contact the parents of every kid that failed, tell them the test score and tell them that we are sending the test home for them to retake and that they won't get credit for it unless the parents sign it.

And that's only half of it because for every single kid we do that for we have to fill out a data sheet on it which takes about a minute and a half each.

I teach 108 kids a day!

From 4:20 to 6:00 I'd done about 10 kids so far!!

I gave up and went home knowing I still have so much to do. We had about 15 kids out sick with either strep, flu, or covid today. For every kid that is out I have to cut out their notes and glue them into their notebooks for them --already filled out so they will have them.

I worked through lunch and finally managed to get the first three classes worth of kids done.

I've got kids that literally only show up once every 3 weeks. And yet we are expected to keep them completely updated on every single thing and have their work ready for them and get them ready to take test when they're never here long enough to absorb anything.

And those 75% of the kids that failed they had all of the answers in their notes. They were allowed to use their notes. We gave them the answers over and over probably three or four times each during note-taking. So either they were too busy talking to each other to take the notes to begin with. Or if they are some kind of special needs where we have to take the notes for them and glue them into their book they were too lazy to open up the book and look for the answer. Literally the answer to 98% of the questions were straightforward from the notes literally written word for word and yet most of the scores were in 30% range.

I have one class that only has nine kids in it. Nine kids that's all. But they are all so low level except for one girl. The one girl that is high level is just crazy. All she wants to do is run around pick on people get physical with people grab them pull their hair throw their things around. She's probably one of the few people that could actually do and understand the work but she just acts out all the time. One girl is one of the kids that only shows up once every 3 months and even then she has so many special needs she's pretty much not going to be able to do much of anything in class. And the others while they're medium to low level they are perfectly capable of taking notes and going back and finding the answers.

Aside from one kid who made a 68 the rest of them made in the 30s because they were too lazy to go back to their nose and look anything up and who gets in trouble for that? ME.

I am basically told I'm a shitty teacher, I have no classroom management skills, and I don't know what I'm doing if I cannot make six kids past their test.

Speaking of futility I don't know what it is about this year's set of kids that they have no memory for the smallest things.

When we got our library schedule I told every class Thursday is our library day. The next morning the first thing I heard;

"Are we going to the library today?"

"No, today is Tuesday we go on Thursday."

Next child in line coming in to class:

"Are we going to the library today?"

"No , today is Tuesday we go on Thursday."

Repeat from every single kid to walk into my classroom every single class all day. 108 kids!!!!And then the next day:

"MISS!!! Are we going to the library today?"

"No, today is Wednesday. We go on Thursday."

EVERY OTHER KID, EVERY CLASS, ALL DAY LONG FOR THE FIRST 4 MONTGS OF SCHOOL!!!

If something doesn't change I do not understand how these kids are going to be able to hold jobs or do or learn anything.

I just don't understand it. 85% of them are like this and it is really only the gifted and talented ones which are dwindling every single year that have even the most basic memory and recall ability much less critical thinking.

“Yeah, but he was kidding, right?”

“SAM. He wasn’t *actually* seriously yelling at you over it, was he?”

This was a few weeks ago, sitting next to my best friend* eating ice cream. (*I consider myself fortunate beyond measure to say that I actually have four people I consider my best friends. This one in particular is probably my longest-running best friend, for nearly 20 years.)

I had asked her about the food situation in her household, as her husband tries to eat a certain way to manage certain health considerations, and so does she. I (again, nonchalantly and almost humorously) brought up the time my husband had gotten angry with me about my cooking because he said it was “too good” and causing him to gain weight.

He wanted me to scale it back; to cook less or stop entirely and shift to freezer meals. “That’s how I lost all my weight in the first place,” he said. I was the primary grocery shopper; I told him I was not spending my grocery budget on freezer meals for him. If he wanted them so badly, he could buy his own. I also reminded him that he dished up his own plate and could simply choose a smaller portion, as most of the meals I cooked were at least fairly healthy.

I remember at one point I downloaded MyFitnessPal onto my phone and began recording my food as what I called “operation petty weight loss.” I wanted to prove a point that my food was NOT making him gain weight; he was doing that all on his own, because *I* could lose weight while eating my food. I tend to quickly devolve into disordered eating mindfuckery, though, usually in the form of exercise bulimia, so it did not last long. I have long since decided that being overweight is preferable to that whole game. I could not tell you what I weigh or anywhere near an accurate estimate of how many calories I’ve eaten today.

I am a good cook and legitimately enjoy cooking. I can cook a wide variety of ethnic meals, homestyle American classic type meals, things I don’t know how to define other than “weird stuff,” and everything in between. I’ve made my own salad dressings and granola. I’m very creative. I’m also a veteran at gluten-free food (I officially made the switch NINE years ago today, on 06-17-2013); I can bake almost anything and have it turn out as good as something made with wheat flour.

I haven’t cooked at all really since I moved 3 weeks ago. I mean, sure; I’ll heat up a box kit in a pot and add my own protein and maybe a handful of spinach to it. But I have not cooked anything from scratch in a long time. I’ve also been doing more takeout and delivery options, in part because I moved to an area where I have many, many more options than I did before.

I brought this up in therapy yesterday, explaining that I just don’t have the brain space for cooking right now. “But I’ll get it back,” I said. And surprised myself when I started crying talking about it. My therapist asked me why I was crying, and I couldn’t give a straight answer in the moment.

But now I know it is because this is a hobby I enjoy and excel at. I've worked at it, to be a good cook; I consider it a skill. And he robbed me of my joy of cooking, of my satisfaction in a job well done. He didn’t like how his choice (in this case, to overeat) affected him, so he made it my fault. Like he did so many things.

He took so much from me, and it’s gonna take me a while to get it back.

THE HAGUE — The International Court ofJustice (ICJ) has announced that it will issue its decision on Friday regarding the nine interim measures requested by South Africa in its case against Israel for committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

South Africa filed a case against Israeli authorities on December 29, 2023, alleging violations of the Genocide Convention regarding Palestinians in Gaza. During the court procedures, South Africa requested the court to issue interim measures to prevent further harm to the rights of Palestinians and to ensure compliance by the Israeli authorities with their obligations under the convention.

What are interim measures?

Interim measures are court orders issued before the final judgment in a case, aimed at preventing irreparable harm. These measures require the respondent state to refrain from specific actions until the court issues its final judgment.

South Africa requested the ICJ to consider nine interim measures concerning the Palestinian people as a protected group under the Genocide Convention.

Here are the nine measures summarized as follows:

Israel must immediately suspend its military operations in Gaza.

Israel must ensure that no actions are taken to escalate its military operations in Gaza.

Both South Africa and Israel must take all reasonable measures within their jurisdiction to prevent genocide against the Palestinian people according to their obligations under the Genocide Convention.

Israel must also refrain from committing any acts defined under Article two of the convention, such as killing members of the group, inflicting serious bodily or mental harm on them, deliberately imposing living conditions aimed at their physical destruction, and imposing measures to prevent births within the group.

Israel must cease all measures, including revoking relevant orders, restrictions, and prohibitions, concerning Palestinians to prevent forcibly displacing and deporting them from their homes, depriving them of access to adequate food and water, humanitarian aid including sufficient fuel, shelter, clothing, hygiene, sanitation, supplies and medical assistance and destroying Palestinian life in Gaza.

Israel must ensure that it refrains from committing any acts described in paragraphs four and five, avoids engaging in direct and public incitement, refrains from attempting to commit genocide, and does not conspire or participate in such acts.

Israel must take effective measures to prevent the destruction of evidence related to the allegations and ensure its preservation. To achieve this goal, Israel must not prevent or restrict access by fact-finding missions, international delegations, and other bodies to Gaza.

Israel is required to submit a report to the ICJ detailing all measures taken to implement this order under interim measures within one week from the date of issuance. Subsequently, Israel must provide regular updates as ordered by the court until its final decision in the case.

Israel is obligated to abstain from taking any action and must ensure that no steps are taken to exacerbate the dispute before the court, prolong its duration, or complicate its resolution.

Netanyahu and Israel have already said that they plan to ignore the ruling & will continue on as if nothing has changed.
