Kai lurched forward with a sharp gasp. Eyes wide and hands clutching the sheets. His gaze zipped around the room frantically, and when he recognized it as his bedroom he slowly started to calm down.

It was only a nightmare.

He caught the sight of light flickering out of the corners of his eyes and he cursed when he realized he had accidentally lit his sheet on fire. "Ah fuck-" He smacked at the flames until they went out. Huffing before leaning against the bed frame.

Sweat clung to his shirtless torso, glistening in the pale light of the moon peeking through his window.

Kai ran a hand through his hair in clear agitation. Trying his best to still his racing heart.

He knew it was just a dream. His mind playing sick jokes on him. But he couldn't help but worry. Her scream's lingered in the back of his mind, and he knew he couldn't just sit here. He had to see her. He had to know she was going to be okay.

The window squeaked as he slid it open and Kai visibly winced at the sound. He slipped through the opening, feet landing soundlessly on the floor. He did his best to close the window more quietly but it still squawked irritably at him. Kai swore under his breath, clicking his tongue in annoyance. He shook his head to himself before turning around.

His gaze immediately softened at the sight of her. A soft lump in the middle of her mattress. Most of the blanket tangled around her legs. And her pillows strewn about on the floor.

Kai couldn't help but smile. He padded softly towards Y/n, grabbing the pillows and placing them back on the bed before slowly and carefully untangling the blanket. He draped it over her before removing his mask and gi, tossing it off to the side and changing into the spare clothes he left here. Which consisted of sweat pants.

Kai slipped into the bed, snaking his arms around Y/n's waist and pulling her back flush against his bare chest. He held back a tired groan as he let his body sink into her plush mattress. Placing a few tender kisses to her shoulder.

Y/n stirred and he winced at the sight of her pretty e/c eyes squinting up at him. "Kai?" she was groggy and still half asleep, but she didn't hesitate to turn around so she was facing him.

"Hey princess, sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He whispered, tucking a few strands of stray hair behind her ear.

Y/n hummed, "S'okay. I don't mind." She leaned up and pressed her face into the crook of his neck. Kai let out a shaky breath and pulled her closer towards him. Resting his chin atop her head. "You smell good." He laughed softly at her muffled comment, humming in appreciation.

"So do you.." he rubbed slow circles into her back and the two drifted off into silence for a few moments. Kai assumed Y/n had fallen back asleep, but he himself was wide awake. Allowing his thoughts to consume him.

He could still see the blood pooling around his feet.

"Your heart is beating really fast." He almost jumped at the sound of her voice, surprised she was still conscious.

"It is?"

She hummed.

Y/n pulled back so she could look up at him, squinting in the darkness of her bedroom. "What's up?" Kai was silent for a moment, and she searched his gaze quietly. Awaiting his reply. Her eyes softened when realization struck her. "Are you having nightmares again?"

Kai's lips pulled down in a frown for the briefest of moments. He reached up to run a hand through his hair nervously. "Yeah.. But uh, don't worry about it. It's nothing."

Y/n shook her head, "It's not nothing, Kai.. It's okay to be scared." she leaned up and planted a kiss to his lips. She slipped her arm around his neck, fingers playing with the hairs on his nape. Kai's eyes slid close for a moment in content.

"I know," he mumbled, peeking his eyes back open to catch the worry in her eyes.

"Do you?" She wet her lips with her tongue out of habit and his gaze followed the motion.

It felt like cotton had been shoved down his throat, and so he nodded to answer her question. Y/n didn't look convinced.

"You're welcome any time, Kai. No matter how late or early it is. And if you want to talk about it, we can. But if you'd rather we don't, that's okay too." She shrugged, running her fingers through his hair, nails gently dragging along his scalp.

Y/n knew just how to make him feel better. His heart squeezed at her words and he leaned down to press a tender kiss to her forehead.

"I just want to be here with you." He breathed, and she smiled. Sliding her hand up and cupping the side of his face. Her thumb slid along his cheekbone softly, and Kai couldn't help but lean into her touch. Letting out a heavy and content breath through his nose. Ruffling a few of her baby hairs tickling his skin.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." She mumbled, leaning forward and pressing a tender and loving smooch to his chin.

Kai's heart swelled at the action and he planted his lips to the top of her head before pulling her even closer to him. They stayed like that for a long time, simply holding onto each other and listening to the sound of each other's breathing.

Kai felt complete and utter bliss. Laying there with her head on his chest. Hearts beating in perfect sync.

And he finally fell asleep, knowing Y/n was safe in his arms.

Ninjago Season 1 DR au

Prepare for madness.

Fic (this is still being written so some things may change depending on my opinions later on):

Kai had been traveling to the Monastery for a few weeks now. He couldn’t wait to arrive, he traveled through all kinds of new places on his way. He missed the others.

— The Merge was pure madness towards those final moments. At first, Jay was violently pulled and yanked into the middle of the storm with a scream as his mech was unable to withstand the pull of the storm.

Zane pulled a civilian on board before he was hit by some tech that didn’t look like it was from Ninjago, and was able sucked into the center. Not even a scream was heard.

Cole was next, he had tried his best but he was too close to the storm and before anyone could reach him, he was sucked in with a scream. “I’ll find you!”

The pull was stronger now and Kai held onto the ledge of the Bounty’s railing, holding onto Nya’s hand, who linked her other with Lloyd’s. “Don’t let go!” Kai screamed.

“I’m slipping!” Lloyd shouted, at the end of their small link, trying to hold onto his sister and brother.

“Lloyd!” Nya yelled, trying to pull their younger brother up with her arm.

Lloyd grabbed onto Nya’s hand with both hands as Kai tried to pull the two up, but the pull was too strong. “Please! Don’t let go! Don’t let go!” Kai begged his siblings.

Lloyd looked up and met the others eyes. Kai and Nya saw the look of anguish and fear on his face. “Please don’t let—“

Kai was cut off when Lloyd was yanked into the middle of the storm with a scream. “No!” Kai screamed out. Nya also suddenly was pulled in and Kai could only watch as his baby sister and brother, both whom he basically raised, were pulled into the middle of the storm. Not knowing what happened to them.

There was a flash of light and Kai screamed as his world broke down around him, and faded into darkness.

Kai didn’t know what to feel about the Merge. He had yet to find his teammates. He couldn’t think straight as he finally approached the Monastery.

The Bounty rumbled as it came to a stop, and Kai walked out onto the deck. He looked at the Monastery as he got off. Surely someone would have run to see who was here? Right?

Kai walked into the Monastery and found nothing but dust. The controllers that Kai and Jay had left behind in their rush were in the same spot, Zane’s pot of stew still on the stove, probably bad, Cole’s punching bad still on the floor from breaking the hook on the ceiling, Nya’s small project sat unfinished, her tools untouched, Lloyd’s favorite dragon plush on the floor.

Kai picked the plush up and brushed some of the dust off. Lloyd had just gotten the plush, it was weighted, along with the hoodie Lloyd had gotten for his 18th birthday, the day the Merge happened. Kai hugged the plush close to his chest and he fell to the floor. If only he could’ve pulled them up.

Maybe he wouldn’t be all alone.

This Au is where Lloyd doesn’t end up in the Monastery, leaving Kai to deal with it all. Where is Lloyd? And how will everything play out?

DID YOU SEE THE WAY HE LONGINGLY LOOKED AT COLE NOT ONLY HAS THIS SEASON FIXED ALL THE CHARACTER WRITING FLAWS THAT THE PREVIOUS ITERATIONS OF NINJAGO HAD BUT IT ALSO CONFIRMED COLE GAY HE GAY FOR THIS MAN, THEYRE SO GAY, NO ONE STARES AT ONE PERSON THE WAY THIS GUY DOES AND ISNT GAY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AND ZANE WITH THE FRONICKY PLUSH AAARGHHH I CANT BELIEVE THIS THEYRE LETTING ZANE REST? WHAT HAVE I BEEN SAYING YALL EVEN IF TUMBLR HASNT EXPERIENCED ALL OF MY NINJAGO OPINIONS, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND I HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS THAT ZANE NEVER GETS A BREAK. HES ALWAYS WORKING, HES ALWAYS FORCED TO GET UP AND DO STUFF BUT THIS SEASON HES PLAYED VIDEO GAMES AND STAYED BEHIND, HES CHILLING WITH THE FROG MAN AND ITS SO GOOD AND AAAAAA I WANNNA WATCH MORE EPISODES BUT I WATCH IT WITH PEOPLE SO I HAVE TO WAIT BUT IT IS THE BEST.

I love the ninjago writers SO MUCH if anyone has like any information on the behind the scenes decisions and stuff that’s gone into the development of this season that’s changed and improved the previous issues tell me I wanna know! Argh I’m so happy, they finally gave Cole a family outside of the ninja team because let’s be real Cole was kinda sidelined for ages he needs a nice family of people who respect him and also he needs a hot purple boyfriend to look after him!

Lloyd isn’t an npc, he’s a human being with flaws?? Like actual? Logical? Flaws? He’s not just a main character anymore?? His flaws aren’t even super annoying either. And like CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW FUNNY IT IS THAT TIKTOK AND YOUTUBE CANONICALLY EXIST? THE NINJA ARE LIKE, TUMBLR SEXYMEN??? IN THE LEGO UNIVERSE?? THATS SO FUNNY, WHAT?

all the jokes feel like actual people talking, the writing feels natural for the first time in years! Zane isn’t constantly abused, he’s happy and frog man is the best character and if Lego doesn’t immediately release mini figures for frohicky and all the other minor characters that are pretty important I’m going to Sue.

also I haven’t watched the next episode but if it doesn’t explain what happened with Zane to end up with a frohicky plushie I’m going to go ballistic, alright?

Hot take but I’m glad Jay isn’t there anymore ik he’s probably going to come back but he’s honestly the worst ninja nowadays. And also, KAI CHARACTER ARC FIXED??

KAI ISNT INSUFFERABLE UNLEARNING AND RUDE ANYMORE HES AN ACTUAL GROWING CHANGING PERSON NOW, AND LIKE I USED TO HATE THE SELF INSERT NEW GUYS BUT THEYRE SO WELL WRITTEN NOW IT JUST MAKES ME LIKE EM’ and sure Aaron can get a little annoying but he’s so autistic coded like openly autistic coded he’s like “is there a social cue I’m not picking up on?” COME ON, MAN. COME ON!!

also like I said, girlie, baby, Sora, honey, you are the GOAT. WE STAN!

also if something ever happened to Zane couldnt sora just like, fix him on the spot?

my only complaint is the fact the ninja haven’t just taken off the masks before the wolf people turn all magic-y like bbg just take it off.

one last thing, JUST SAY CHIMA, WE ALL KNOW THAT GUY IS FROM LEGO CHIMA DONT HIDE IT EMBRACE IT. AAAAA

Dragons Rising Season 2 Pt1 overall thoughts!

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS DO NOT CLICK UNLESS YOU'VE WATCHED THE WHOLE THING

In no particular order:

Wow, this season was the heaviest one yet. I'd been a bit disappointed by how Season 1 seemed a bit light on the life lessons that I found so compelling in Ninjago. Well, DR2 delivered in spades, from the theme of secrets, to the issues of mental health. Never should've doubted Ninjago writers!

WHY LEAVE SO MANY UNRESOLVED THREADS THOUGH. Not even clues for fans to speculate on?!?

Like what happened in Cole's journey to follow Master Wu?

What really is that glowing orb sprite thingy? Because it showed up in the Monastary of Spinjitzu to close the portal gate, right? How was it doing that before they'd even traveled to Mysterium? Have I misunderstood something? (Granted, I had to do chores here and there so I really might've missed something... need a rewatch)

Where did Cinder even come from? How did Ras recruit him? What's his story?

What really is Arin's object spinjitzu power?

Of course I'm sure all of this will be resolved/revealed eventually, but it seems a lot to conclude in the next 10 episodes. Oh wait, they've said they have enough material for a few more seasons right? Well, sure looks like enough for at least a third season.

I think the ones who are gonna have a falling out are Arin and Sora. It's gonna be revealed, maybe at some critical point, that he didn't actually do object spinjitzu to get them the win, and it's gonna destroy his self confidence as well as his trust in Sora.

They're gonna get all of the Forbidden Five out eventually, possibly by shoving more ninja through the gate. Which is fine, because the ninja will just meet up and come back through the Power of Friendship!

SO CURIOUS to find out what the elemental powers of the Forbidden Five are.

I was a little disappointed by the lack of Euphrasia though. I thought for sure she'd have a more major role this season, but she still remained a side character for most of it. Oh well, patience!

BONZLE. I did NOT expect her story to go this way. Still trying to wrap my brain around a sentient spell, but hey. It's Ninjago.

Love her so much though she's so precious.

Speaking of precious, ZANE. That's it. That's the whole thought.

No, I AM going to expand on that. Look at how he had such a vast knowledge of the Administration's rules and regulations. Look at how he stalled them with it. Look at the pride he had in helping them raise their efficiency by NINE PERCENT. IT COULD'VE BEEN TEN YOU GUYS. IF HE HADN'T GOTTEN RESCUED.

MR FROHICKY. I need that Frohicky plushie like YESTERDAY.

Also PUPPY COLE PLUSH WHEN

COLE. He's still protecting and trying to comfort everyone. What an amazing fight he put on at the monastary, almost a one-man army against the Adminstration's mechs, with Gandalaria's support. I bet his failure to protect Zane would have devastated him if Zane had been deactivated permanently. Fortunately Gandalaria knows more about nindroids than she should...

GANDALARIA! Endlessly positive and chirpy and disorganised. Like a more established Fungus. Wish I could be her. Loved seeing her dynamic with Cole being her straight man (hush, yes I know.)

So happy to see Kai get his focus for a change. Love Lloyd but he gets the focus like... every season. Kai needs the love. He's really cool this season.

Nya gets the least focus :( I miss her

WHY are all the ninjas' powers only as powerful as the plot calls for it :/ Zane's frozen way more than just a runaway mech back in the day!

I still think Ras looks too cuddly to be taken seriously as an antagonist. I mean would you not hug a Ras plushie? Look at those eyes. Look at that nose.

Is Ras's master a Source Dragon or the Overlord? OR BOTH?

Love Rontu, but she is such an archetypal (?) Nurturing Mentor to Egalt's Grumpy Old Master

Egalt has dragon cancer :( he looks way cooler in the show than he looked in the promotional materials and the set

I haven't talked about Jay, have I? JAY. Oh how my heart skipped a beat when he showed up pointing that gun/taser at Bonzle. I literally said out loud "OH NO OH NO OH NO".

I think that was the single most terrifying part of the whole season for me. I don't even know why it was so visceral. I think I was worried that his entire peronality had changed, though I don't know why I thought that, since in Pt1 he was literally playing video games instead of working.

So I was actually relieved to hear that he felt he didn't really belong in the Administration. Pre-merge Jay probably couldn't even fill out a single form properly. He probably had Nya or Zane or Cole do all the paperwork for him.

He clearly wasn't suprised that he had control over lightning. Why did nobody know about it? He's the kinda guy who'd use his powers for entertainment if he didn't have a good reason to hide them.

He didn't recognise his own ninja outfit D:

Lastly, the Finders - I'm also a little troubled by how Cole seems to put them ahead of his ninja family, but then again. He knows the ninja are all very capable warriors who can take care of themselves. On the other hand, for who knows how long, he had felt responsible for protecting his little newfound family. It makes sense that he would continue priotising them even after finding his old family.

In conclusion, Cole is such a dad :D

And to wrap it up, NEED PT 2 NOW 6 MONTHS IS TOO LONG TO WAIT NETFLIX /shakes fist

Sorry that was so long and rambling! Fun though.

I had wanted to do a blow by blow reaction post of every episode, but I can't seem to get clear photos from my device without major reflection issues. Still trying though!

"Mail call!" yelled the voice from over the monastery's walls. The ninja dashed to the door with excitement, you and Master Wu following closely behind. The large gates opened to reveal the poor postman, he was panting due to the number of stairs.

"Ca-can't you guys get a lift or something?" he huffed out, digging around his bag. He pulled out some letters, scanning the envelopes before calling out names, "Jay, a letter from your parents."

"Aw right!" Jay beamed, grabbing the letter and opening it immediately.

"A package for Nya and Kai, both from your parents." Kai stepped forward with a giddy grin, "I'll take Nya's too, I'm sure she won't mind." he was definitely up to something.

"Whatever," the postman sighed, "Sorry Zane, nothing for you today." The nindroid looked down in disappointment, "It's okay, maybe another day." he shrugged. The postman rattled around his bag for the final letter, "Last but not least, Cole. It's a letter from your dad."

"Ohh, great." the sarcasm in his voice could be heard from Ninjago City with how blatant he was about it. Cole took the letter, giving the postman a brief 'thanks', he didn't open it though. Jay had noticed this, shoving his shoulder into Cole's chest, "Hey, aren't ya gonna open it?"

Cole looked from the letter to Jay, "Naah,"

"What? Why? There could be something cool in there." Jay offered, trying to tug the letter away from Cole; the guy could be so nosey. Cole shoved Jay away and moved to stand beside you and Master Wu, "It's just a letter from my dad, Jay. It's nothing special, probably just wants me to visit or something."

"Oh, I'd love to visit your dad. I've heard so much about him." you mused, but it was true. Ever since you had been brought onto the crew, you and Cole grew a close bond. One night while you were both on guard on the Bounty, you had just talked for hours about nothing in particular. That was until Cole opened up about his family, and in turn, you did the same.

He told you the fun stories and the sad; you gave him your condolences and shared a brief hug. Cole's denial brought you out of the sweet memory, "Oooh no, I'm not visiting my dad."

"But I thought you two had fixed your relationship? It's how you unlocked your true potential." Zane butted in, scratching his mechanical head in confusion.

"Yeah, I thought your old man was good with you being a ninja and stuff." Kai added, now leaning against Zane. Cole shrugged his shoulders, looking hopeless, "It's not that, it's- Oh, forget it." he sighed, turning away.

You all stared at each other in shock and confusion. What was up with him? You couldn't think of any other time he'd been acting like this; did something happen between Cole and his father? You chased after Cole, considering no one else did.

You heard a commotion coming from his room, you couldn't make out any words though. Knowing it was wrong to eavesdrop, you tapped lightly on his bedroom door, awaiting entry. It took him a minute or so, but eventually, Cole let you in. He didn't say anything, he just sat on his bed looking at the still enclosed letter in his hands.

You joined him, feeling the plush mattress sink under your weight. You rested a hand against his shoulder, giving him a promising smile as you did, "Hey, I'm sure whatever is going on between you and your dad isn't that bad. Aren't you even going to read it? I mean, it might not even be what you think it is."

Cole sighed, shaking his head lightly, "I know exactly what it is, and that's the problem."

"I don't quite follow?" you asked, head titled in puzzlement. Cole couldn't suppress the small smile on his face when he looked at you, he always thought you looked cute when you titled your head like that. He shook the feeling away, debating on doing what he was about to do. Wordlessly, he handed you the letter, nodding for you to open it.

The room remained quiet as you read, little mumbles of words, maybe even a complete sentence. You couldn't understand why Cole was so against opening this letter, there wasn't anything particularly bad about it. Just the occasional boasting about his Father's Blacksmith group and some gossip he heard from around town and-

Oh, now you've seen it. You stopped reading, looking to Cole who was blushing all shades of red. You flicked your gaze back to the letter, this time reading aloud "Now onto the main business, when are you bringing this so-called girlfriend of yours over? From how often you talk about her, I'm starting to think it's serious. Shouldn't your old man get to meet her or are you too scared I'll embarrass you?"

You couldn't help the small smile, no doubt Cole's father would go out of his way to embarrass his son. You continued, "If you don't plan on introducing us anytime soon, then I'll have to do it myself. Either you come to me within the next week or I'll come to you."

You finished reading, deciding to not read anymore, you got the gist of it. You placed the letter limply in your hand, turning back to Cole, "Well?" he asked, eyes full of worry.

"I-" you couldn't form words, so many thoughts were buzzing around your brain, "Y-you don't have a girlfriend though?" at least, you hoped he didn't. Cole may have been your best friend but will all those late nights and sweet talks you couldn't help but grow feelings for the guy. Feelings of which you had never disclosed to anyone...Well except Nya but that was i- weelll, you also told Jay and you had a sneaking suspicion Master Wu knew too. And Zane was super smart he, no doubt, had put two-and-two together and Kai was pretty good at spotting these types of thing- The point is, Cole didn't know.

"I don't have a girlfriend, and that's the problem." he groaned out, you released the breath you didn't know you were holding. Cole turned to you, apprehensive, "I just told my dad so he'd stop getting on my back about finding true love and stuff, I didn't wanna disappoint him so I lied. But now he wants to meet her, I've been putting this off for months, but now I think I'm gonna have to come clean."

"Yeah, that does sound pretty rough. But Cole, I think your dad will be more disappointed with the fact that you lied rather than not having a partner in the first place." you rubbed his arm, watching his shoulders sink lower, "Ugh, I'm an awful person." he rubbed his hands over his face.

"Hey, hey, you're not an awful person. You just wanted to make your dad proud, which hello? You're a ninja that protects the whole on Ninjago and you've saved the world multiple times, I think he's plenty proud of you."

"You really think?" he looked up towards you with hope in his eyes, you smiled brightly at him, "Of course, if not, then I'm sure he won't mind a long conversation about how great you are. In fact, I'll do it personally." you laughed, Cole quickly following along. You two sat there laughing, the problem slowly winding away.

That was until Cole clicked his fingers, he'd just had a lightbulb moment, "I've got it!"

"Got what?" there you go tilting your head again, "I know a way to appease my dad without telling him the truth." Cole beamed. You frowned, "Did you not just hear the entire rant about how lying is bad and your dad loves you no matter what???"

"Yeah, I know, but I think it'll make him happy to see I'm with someone, y'know? See that I have what he had with my mom." anndddd there goes your heart, beating faster than it ever has and it's all for the boy in front of you. You couldn't help but swoon at his reasoning, how could you possibly disagree with him after that?

"Fine, what you got, Rocky?" you huffed out a laugh to make it seem like you were a little annoyed. Cole braced himself on the bed, adjusting so he was facing you, his leg bumping against yours.

"Okay, you gotta stick with me on this, alright?" you nodded your head, though a little scared at what he was going to recommend, "We've known each other for a while now, right?" You nodded again.

"Right," he affirmed to himself, "And I like to think we're pretty close, y'know?" you could already see where this was going, "Well ok, so, what if- erm, what if-" he stuttered out.

"What if I posed as your girlfriend?" you finished for him, you decided to be nice and put him out of his misery. Cole blushed but shook his head 'yes', "W-well only because we know each other so well so it wouldn't be weird, right?"

"Right," you laughed, a part of you had always wished this would happen; it was a very small part. Cole soon became giddy, "Soooo, you'll do it?"

"Yeah, sure. I did say I wanted to meet your dad anyway." Cole leapt into the air, dancing around the room. It then felt like a switch had been flipped in his brain, he came bounding to you, offering you his hand.

"M'lady," he hummed, taking your hand in his and kissing your knuckles; you felt your cheeks warm at the gesture. He pulled away, though you could still feel his breath against your skin. He looked up at you with doe eyes, "We can leave in a few days, pick you up at 8?" he smirked.

You shoved him away, clearly flustered, "We live together, idiot."

"I know, I just wanna be the best boyfriend ever!" he cheered, leaving the room in a victory pose. Ten seconds later he popped his head back in, "Wait a minute, this is my room."

The day had finally come, time had seemingly gone so quickly over the last few days. Cole had sent a letter informing his father that he would be coming, albeit with some snark in the letter. He then gave you some ground rules, the typical stuff.

Don't ask to see baby photos.

Don't talk about the Blacksmiths

And most importantly, don't ask to stay the weekend.

You had simply laughed at Cole, calling him a bit of a control freak. It was just a quick visit, how bad could it be?

Cole was waiting for you at the gates of the monastery, your friends surrounding you and wishing you luck. Ever the gentleman, Cole took your bags and spawned his elemental dragon. He knew you hated riding the thing, but you could see how much Cole just wanted to get this whole thing over with.

It was only a short ride to Cole's family home, the small house looked rather simple and lonely. You couldn't believe you were going to see the humble beginnings of someone you admired so much; maybe a little too much.

"Can we get a taxi back next time?" you huffed out, thankful you were finally landing. Cole could only laugh, feeling the grip you had on his waist the entire trip loosen, "What? You tellin' me that wasn't the most fun you've ever had?" he teased.

While Cole was fetching the bags, you took it upon yourself to press the doorbell. A rather obnoxious sound flooded your ears, you couldn't help but quirk your brow at it, "You're dad's really, erm, something, huh?" you mused as Cole walked up beside you.

The master of Earth shrugged his shoulders, "I wanna say you get used to it, but that would just be lying."

The door swung open when the chime ended, as though Cole's father was waiting on the other side. With a wide smile he embraced his son, "Ah, Cole, it's so good to have you home again." Cole hugged him back, slightly less enthusiastic, "Yeah, dad, it's great to see you too."

"And this must be your girlfriend, hm?" Lou turned his attention to you, scanning your form before hugging you himself, "About time he got you here, I thought I'd be dead before I saw you in the flesh."

"Daddd..." Cole whined out, Lou gave you his hand waiting for you to shake it, "Lou, and who might you be, my dear?"

"(Y/N), it's a pleasure to finally meet you. Cole's told me so much about you." you gave him a smile of your own, casting a quick glance to the boy mentioned. Lou led you back into the house, ensuring Cole brought your bags again, "Did he tell you about my Blacksmithing days? Oh, they were fun. It's a shame the Brookstone legacy won't live on."

"C'mon, dad, we already talked about this. I'm a ninja, I wasn't going to go into dancing, it's not what I do." Cole groaned, flopping onto the pristine couch. Lou sighed, looking dreamily at a small photo of a young Cole dancing, "But you were so good at it, and get your feet off of the couch. What were you raised in a barn?"

Cole grumbled but did as he was told, you joined him on the couch, making sure to sit closer than you usually would. Maybe this whole keeping up appearances thing wouldn't be so hard, it felt like you and Cole were naturally meant to be like this. Cole leaned against you, enjoying the warmth that flooded from your skin.

"Mr Brookstone, sir, Cole hasn't really told me much about his dancing days, would you care to enlighten me?" you snook a glance at Cole, his eyes were fuming, and you were already breaking one of his very important rules. Lou broke out into a laugh, correcting you, "Please, my dear, call me Lou or father-in-law."

"Daddd..." Cole whined out again, face going red. You pinched his cheeks calling him a cutie, this only worsened the embarrassment. But Lou didn't seem to mind, in fact, he thought you were already perfect for each other; you were definitely a keeper.

As the day carried on, so did Cole's embarrassment. First came the long conversation about his short-lived dancing career, then came the baby pictures, and then came the talk about marriage and the implication of having grandkids one day. The guy couldn't take much more of this otherwise he'd be a puddle on the floor.

You had just finished eating a lovely meal, all of which was prepared by Lou, "Wow, Lou, this was amazing; I wish Cole could cook like this." you cheered, helping him tidy away. Cole nudged your arm, "I thought you said you liked my cooking?" he seemed genuinely upset, "I do, it's just- well..."

"You haven't mastered the art of flavour yet, my son." Lou finished for you. Cole pouted, he remained at the table to sulk. While Lou was in the kitchen, you crept up to Cole and kept your voice hush, "I promise I do like your cooking."

"It's not that," Cole huffed out, refusing to look at you. You pulled a chair out from next to him, taking a seat and tilting your head in confusion, "Then what is it?"

Cole flicked his gaze from you then back to the table, he did this a few more times before he spoke, "My dad really likes you, it's gonna crush him when he finds out this isn't real." you looked down in disappointment, now you could see why Cole wasn't in such a festive mood.

"We'll figure something out, I promise." you kissed his cheek, sending his face a deep shade of pink, "We?" he asked. You nodded your head, moving to stand, "We." you confirmed. You left Cole to help Lou clean up, though you soon shoed him out as a way of thanks for cooking. Although reluctant, Lou was itching to have a talk with his son and you had just conveniently given him the time to do so.

Lou approached Cole at the dining room table, taking a seat and resting his cane against the old wood. They sat in silence for a moment until Lou spoke, "I like her, you got a good one, Cole. Don't ever let her slip away."

Cole sighed, he knew he had to tell his father the truth...but he was so happy; he couldn't bear to break his father's heart.

"Dad, I've got to tell you something...and I-I don't know how you'll react to it." Cole stuttered out. Lou's eyes widened, "She's not-" he trailed off. The realisation hit Cole in the face, "No!" he shouted in a panic. Cole coughed, clearing his throat, "No, she's not- we haven't- What I'm trying to say is-"

"You don't need to say anything, Cole. You know, you're mother would be very proud of you. She'd definitely approve of (Y/N)." Lou interrupted, his eyes full of love. Cole shook his head, "Really?"

Lou stood up, hobbling to some pictures along some shelves, he grabbed one and studied it closely. It was a picture of him and his wife, Cole's mother. His eyes were full of so much sorrow but yet, there was love and commitment behind them too.

"(Y/N) reminds me a lot of your mother when we were younger, she was always so headstrong and passionate. It's one of the many things I loved about her. She always knew how to reign me in and bring me back to my senses after a bad show, I'm sure (Y/N) does that for you?"

Now that Cole thought about it, you did do that for him. After a failed mission, Cole would mope around his room and then you'd come in. You'd sit with him, beg him to come see the stars with you or just take a walk to clear his mind. Maybe your tricks always worked on him or maybe he just secretly enjoyed your presence.

"Cole, you only get someone as special as that once in your life, don't lose them." Cole nodded his head in understanding, "Don't worry, dad. I won't."

After the small talk with his father, Cole stood at the entrance of the kitchen, watching with a smile as you cleaned. You were unaware of his presence in the room, and that's why you jumped lightly when his arms wrapped around your waist. Figuring his father must be around, you remained in character "Aw, hey sweetie, what's up?"

"It's okay, he isn't here," Cole whispered, burying his face into your neck. You blushed at the gesture, "Then why are you hugging me?" you didn't mean to sound rude, just curious. You felt Cole shrug behind you, "I don't know, it just felt right."

You relaxed in his embrace, carrying on washing while Cole remained behind you. Music came from somewhere in the house, it wafted through like the smell of freshly baked cookies. Cole picked up on the tune instantly, recognising it as something his mother and father listened to when he was younger.

"Care to dance?" he asked, offering his hand out to you. Grabbing a rag, you dried your hands and accepted his offer. You allowed Cole to pull you against him and lead the waltz, the rhyme pulled and tugged at you both until you eventually got into a steady beat. You laid your head against Cole's chest, just enjoying the heat that travelled from his body.

Meanwhile, Lou was stood where Cole once resided, watching the two of you with a warm smile. He stared at the picture of his wife, the photo was taken while they danced, in a very similar pose to you and Cole right now. Lou sighed, placing the photo down and leaving the two of you to be.

Hi, @senseiwu! I’m your Ninjago OC Secret Santa! I adore all three of your OCs, so...couldn’t help but do a little thing for all of them! Hope you have a good one!

And here we have image descriptions + my ramblings:

Top: Mei, wife of the FSM, prepares an early morning hot chocolate for her sons on a particularly snowy day. Garmadon and Wu peek above the counter, excited to see what she’s made. Garmadon’s mug is purple and flavored with peppermints, while Wu’s mug is yellow and decorated with cookies.

Left: Lar, younger sibling of Kai and Nya, opens an early gift by the fireplace while Kai and Nya watching. Stockings for their whole family (Ray, Maya, Wu, Kai, Nya, Lar) are hung above the fireplace, where a raging orange fire warms up the trio.

Right: Jun, child of Wu and Misako in an alt timeline, falls asleep on Misako’s lap (cuddling her owl plush Hoohoo—which is SUCH a cute name gah) while Misako reads her a story in her personal study beneath a Christmas tree. Morro sits to the side, also listening in but trying to be cool about it, while Wu is on the other side watching with adoration.

Hello! I’ve finally finished the next story in the series- so here it is :)

Never-Ending Jingle Bells

On a once peaceful December night, a villain has plunged the Crossroads into chaos with his plan to take over Ninjago and become its king. The first step in his master plan is to release on the city his army of…tiny robotic plush elves? Weird choice, but okay. Even though this threat seems unlikely to cause any real harm, it’s up to Kai, Furno, Aaron, and Lewa to save Ninjago.

An old oc idea for Ninjago Legends where Kai accidentally activates a nanny robot that believes he’s another kid to take care of. Was supposed to show off Kai’s parent issues. Not sure if she’d still be in the story now but I like her look.

Design details under the cut

The design was sorta based on the animatronics from the Showbiz pizza place because of how they worked.

Let me explain, I was fascinated by how they covered the mechanical parts with a fur suit of sorts (vs the segmented “shells” that only partially covered the mechanical parts of the FNAF animatronic designs) and I wondered about a robot design that did the same but with a plush suit instead of fur and a more porcelain doll look.

I think I also took inspiration from calico critters.

She initially wasn’t a bear robot but then I decided that a porcelain doll “human” was too creepy and making her an animal would give her some charm. Plus, you know, mama bear. I’m still going back and forth on whether making her creepier would have been better but by now I’m attached to her bear look.

To be honest I mostly designed her cause I wanted to try my hand at a robot character that had a different aesthetic than the nindroids we see in the show.

Don’t have a name for her yet.

Ninjago Headcanons

How I think each ninjago character sleeps

Kai: Because he has a higher than average body temperature, I think he would be the type to sleep with no blankets, or at least a thin one, and always has the fan on (even in winter). Prefers soft beds and doesn't sleep with a pillow. Would cycle through various sprawled out positions through the night. Incredibly light sleeper. Would sleep in minimal clothing

Cole: Loves lots of blankets and pillows, and a soft matress. Would switch between open and more curled up sleeping positions depending on his mood. Favourite way to sleep tho would be on his stomach with a hand under him. Probably would have white noise in the background, like rain or nature sounds. Heavy sleeper. Type to wear thin but comfy pjs. Struggles to fall asleep.

Jay: Bold of you to assume this man sleeps, and sleeps on a bed, no less. Often found sleeping in random places or at a work bench because he forced himself to stay awake for as long as possible and then crashed. When he does sleep, he is dead to the world and it takes an earthquake to wake him up. Minimal blankets but a good firm pillow and matress (those spring ones probably). Has one plush toy on his bed that he sleeps with (when he does sleep in his bed). Would sleep in a fetal position. Extremely restless and constantly moving in his sleep unless he has passed out from exhaustion, then he doesn't move for days.

Zane: Doesn't need sleep but does enjoy laying in bed to maybe read a book or doing something on a laptop. Instead, I think he would meditate mostly, have some incense burning like lavender, sage or jasmine. Just taking the night to relax and do stuff for himself

Pixal: We've seen that she sleeps in the secrets of spinjiztu season ( I think) but I don't think she cares much if the matress is soft or not, but she does like to have a couple of pillows and at least one thick blanket. Light sleeper and would definitely sleep as if she is in a coffin you know, on my back with her arms either by her sides or resting on her stomach in simple night wear.

Echo Zane: Doesn't sleep or meditate really. Just, sits somewhere at night and perhaps maybe contemplates life

Nya: I think she would have one plush toy that sits on her bed but gets kicked off during the night. Soft matress and two pillows usually, and one thin and one thicker blanket for warmth. I think she would be a heavy sleeper, and would either lay in fetal position or on her back with her hand above her head. Would also sleep in fluffy pjs, but then has an extra set of thin ones (exactly the same design). Restless sleeper.

Lloyd: Would have an extra pillow on his bed that he sometimes holds on to at night, and enjoys a more firm but still kind of soft matress. Perhaps two blankets, one thin one and one thick one. And then another thick blanket for winter. Would sleep in the fetal position or on his back with his arms above his head. Light sleeper. Would have the type of insomnia where he can't stay asleep. Has that one pair of night wear that is his favourite. He has other things to wear but he just doesn't want to. Goes to bed in one position and wakes up like that.

Sensei Wu: Would sleep on a futon with one really comfy pillow that provides a lot of neck support. And then just one blanket that can be used in either summer or winter. Also sleeps on his back like a dead person. Light sleeper. Simple night wear, long pants and shirt

Sensei Garmadon: Would also sleep with those pillows with extra neck support, on a futon and with one really thick blanket (has a spare thin one for summer). Back sleeper, with his hands on his stomach, looks like he is barely breathing so often people think he is dead or something. Light sleeper. Likes to burn incense while he sleeps (don't do that at home, it's dangerous). He would wear thin, long pjs but probably would then walk around in robes.

Lord Garmadon: Doesn't sleep. The night is for recharging through meditation or evil scheming

Dareth: Sleeps on a ratty spring matress and defends its, saying its comfortable (it's really not. Has four pillows in total and falls asleep with the blanket on, always wakes up with it off. And only has that one blanket. Heavy sleeper, can't wake him up for anything. Thick pjs because his heating sucks

Ronin: When he does sleep, it's in his ship in the chair with a blanket wrapped around him. Maybe a pillow or a sleeping bag on him in storage but that's for when he's settled completely and is sure that it's safe to sleep where he is. Extremely light sleeper. Probably has insomnia too.

Skylor: Quite a simple get up but extremely comfy. With a couple of pillows and three blankets ranging in size and thickness, and a soft and comfy matress. Maybe a plush toy or two but she tosses them off before sleeping. Minimal sleep wear, and would sleep on her back, spread eagle, and just kind of taking up a lot of space on the bed while moving around a lot.
