Headcanon Nico spends his relaxing time in the forest, or generally, somewhere he can be alone with lots of shades, chatting away with ghosts.
People are more often than not uncomfortable around him. The ghosts are the opposite.
They are eager to have someone to talk to, someone who sees them. They don't care if he can make them disappear. They care nothing but his accompany.
Sometimes, there're no ghosts to entertain or entertain him. In those times, the darkness is there with him. Sometimes Nyx, sometimes Erebus. It's hard to tell.
People don't like that when they catch Nico talking alone, but it's actually when he feels the most relaxed, free and unburdened with his unusual companions.

the seven (+ nico and reyna) if they were children if minor gods/goddesses
percy - i'm not gonna lie, it was so hard to find a minor god for percy. the best one i found is basically just another god the sea: nereus. he was a son of primordial gods; gaea (sorry for that, percy, omg 😭) and pontus, primordial god of the ocean. anyway, nereus was also a god of wisdom, prophetic visions (so it would kind of make sense for percy to be a 'prophecy child' if his dad was a prophecy god ig), and change. also! nereus valued loyalty (and, if we excuse demigod children lmao, he was loyal to his wife), and loyalty is percy's fatal flaw.
annabeth - themis, the greek goddess of justice, order, and overall fairness (not unlike nemesis), which are all values that i think annabeth holds close to her. themis is also depicted to be extremely wise (and sometimes she's also called a goddess of wisdom), another trait that annabeth believes in.
jason - aiolos, roman god of the wind (the greek version is aeolus). he's also known as the 'keeper of the four winds,' meaning he also controlled storm winds, so jason would likely have similar powers to children of jupiter. also, his name means 'quick-moving.' jason already has powers relating to storms and winds (those are his main powers, other than lightning), and being a son of aiolos would likely just increase his power over wind.
leo - i honestly couldn't find any minor gods that suit leo, but i think pallas, greek god of warcraft/handcrafts (and in some cases - 'useful arts,' which i'm taking to mean machines/mechanics, etc.). pallas is often also related to athena, goddess of wisdom, but i believe he's depicted as more of a 'quick-thinker,' which suits leo a lot.
piper - psyche, greek goddess of the soul; she's described, in mythology, as a mortal-turned-goddess whose beauty rivalled aphrodite's. the goddess represents passions, as well as misfortunes. this means piper could likely still have charmspeak because of psyche's close relation/similarity to aphrodite.
hazel - i feel like this one's sort of obvious; hecate. not only is she goddess of the mist and magic, but also ghosts, so hazel would have similar powers to a child of hades/pluto. hazel is already shown to have powers over the mist, and hecate is often associated with gemstones/crystals, which hazel can also already control.
frank - i really couldn't find many gods for frank, but i think honos, the greek god of honour, works well. he also represents glory, and in some cases, bravery. these are all some of frank's best qualities - ones that he himself actually values a lot too. additionally, honos symbolises victory and achievement, which are more qualities that frank would need for his role as praetor, etc.
nico - ok. so. the best one i could find was erebus; primordial god of shadows and darkness. he's also the god of a particularly dark part of the underworld, so it's likely he'd also have control over ghosts and bones (like nico does). this probably also means children of erebus could shadow-travel. and, although he isn't always perceived as powerful, erebus is. one interesting thing about erebus - even though he is not explicitly evil, his name is often used interchangeably with tartarus (which, if we're talking about experiences with tartarus: this could be an added factor as to why nico went to tartarus so confidently. if he didn't know enough about his father, he might've assumed he could be okay through tartarus.)
reyna - fides, roman goddess of loyalty and trust. fides is said to represent everything 'required for honour and credibility.' throughout the heroes of olympus, it's clear that honour and trust are two things reyna values deeply. it's also said that fides embodies everything needed for soldiers in rome, which, as praetor (for a long time), reyna is to be considered a soldier of new rome. additionally, loyalty and faithfulness are two qualities valued by artemis and her huntresses.

The first thing which Nico was aware of upon waking was the deep ache in his knees and chest. He coughed and groaned, blinking his eyes blearily before forcing himself into a sitting position. Purple energy danced along his arm making the dimly lit room glow in violet. He raised his arm and studied it, his eyebrows drawn down.
“Yes,” a dry voice said into the still air. “Apollo and I were worried about that. Especially after Zagreus mentioned your encounter with Lord Erebus’ aspect.”
Nico jerked and reached for the rosary beads hanging from his neck. A moment passed before Nico located the owner of the voice and lowered his hand. Trying to calm the rapid beat of his heart, Nico took a deep breath before speaking. “Father.”
“I assume that you know more than you have told anyone about your…parasite? Infection?”
Nico remained silent and Hades nodded. “Apollo seems to know more than he is willing to share. But, I suppose all will become apparent in the end.” The god shrugged. “Or it will not.”

When Aneira and Nico leave Erebus and Niko unattended in the office, it normally defaults to this. Lots of making Niko float, and lots of Niko and Erebus biting and hissing at each other.
They're like cats being forced to be in each others space. It's never good.
However they're slowly getting used to one another! Erebus still forces him to float though. Can't stand him being close to her. He's thrown up a few times.

Nov 25th here we go. Just so you know Ponii, your asks are my source of serotonin.
So, Nico as Champion of Erebus - because my boy is nothing if not hello darkness my old friend am I right *wink wink nudge nudge* ?. That is to say, I'm building these headcanons on the basis that Nico is favored by Erebus, or rather darkness itself, and thus gained his protection (and by extension, Nyx's as well).
I like to think that Nico thrives in darkness, which is his element. That which people find bleak and scary, he thinks of it as nurturing and resting. He's born of the most barren land of life, he enjoys the darkness, and how fitting, the shadows love him in kind. Isn't it adorable?
I prefer to think of Erebus as Nico's friend (which you can alr see clearly enough in my fanfics). And I'd like to note that they're friends solely based on their mutual understanding - creatures of darkness clinging to each other's warmth, something like that. Compassion. Sympathy. Something only they can see.
The sun forsakes him, so he returns to the dark - this is basically my idea for like the whole thing.
Nico can be Erebus' champion, but I think of their relationship more as symbiotic and Erebus grants Nico power due to his personal favoritism rather than a Juno-Jason type of champion-ship lol.
Which is why Nico doesn't have many duties as the Champion of Erebus. His job is, well, to befriend the shadows and the primordial himself - it's just that simple. Erebus doesn't want to take over the world, he just wants a friend.
Nico's the most lively during nightfall. The darkness fuels him, he feels safe, and also he enjoys its calm yet mischievous company - because darkness has a lot to hide.
Shadows are everywhere. They watch and they listen, and they are awfully enthusiastic gossipers. Nico has no choice but subject to their revelations, and more often than not, he knows too many secrets he doesn't want to know.
As Champion of Erebus, Nico is his own source of darkness. He can pull it out of himself and uses it to his liking. He can blind the sun. He can curtain the sky. He can shape it like clay and play with it.
That's how he can shape his own wings. They don't fly tho.
Nico can touch others' shadows. Like. It's weird.
Nico visits Nyx's mansion sometimes, just because Erebus has his sudden nostalgic episodes and he likes to pull Nico into the nearest shadow and brings him to Nyx's place without a warning. It freaks Nico out, kind of, and he hasn't yet mastered how to entertain Nyx, but he keeps trying anyway.
Erebus does, in fact, shadow-travel Nico to different places whenever he likes just because he likes to. The shadows just curl themselves around Nico's ankles and tug at his wrists and whoosh! He's gone.
Hades doesn't like that. Nico tries his best to convince him not to worry. He has faith in his primordial friend.
When Nico's in one of his moods, Erebus manifests as Bianca - just a faceless, soundless shadow, nothing more - to comfort him. Sometimes it's Maria. Sometimes funny animals and characters. Just trying to cheer him up.
Nico can't hear their voices, can't see their faces - but the feelings are what matters.
When Nico sleeps, the darkness pools around him. It looks like he's lying on a black puddle with an equally black blanket, while in fact, he doesn't.
Nico can see in the dark. He closes his eyes and the darkness would show him the shapes and sizes of whatever they're engulfing, like a 3D map. He can't see colors though.
Nico's hair looks longer than it actually is due to the shadows clinging to it.
He can dissolve into the dark. Like. Literally. If it's dark enough, his body can switch into an incorporeal state in which it feels like... well, a ghost. As in: you can still see him, but you can't touch him. If you thrust your hand into his chest, it would just go right through his body as if he isn't there. Like touching air. Fleeting shades.
That's enough for now... I guess LOL. I'd probably come up with whatever later, but I'm getting old and my back is protesting again so... I hope you enjoy this!! xD Erebus!Nico my religion

I took a long break from reading ao3 (i had a reading burnout bcs of college) and decided to check if some of my fav fanfics have updated, and A Kairos Moment had several chapters I had to catch up with. I did. And lemme tell you...

Erebus: This better be worth it, is all I'm saying.
Me: Yes, sir!
Aeon: I still have marriage rights with Nico.
Me: (nods) You can get married on March 14, the year he turns 18.

Me: ...That's creepy. I think I heard a ghost speak just now. (shivers)

All of them: Shut up, you're already canon. What more can you possibly want?

The idea that Nyx is obsessed with Nico in the new book is so funny because I've been writing her and Erebus as obsessed with Hades, to the point of repeatedly requesting that he let them adopt him (he does not want to be adopted)
Like. Alright, fine. If they can't get the big one, they'll get the small knockoff 🤷♂️
Also I still think it's insane that Hades would not be able to control Tartarus in some kind of way. Like even minimally - Tartarus is still within his domain as the Underworld. In fact, I'm pretty sure in most iterations of the myths, the Fields of Punishment aren't even a thing. It's just Tartarus where everyone goes to be punished. So like.... Why would that not be part of Hades' house.

Nico stepped out of the shadows and into Erebus's place before he gave enough time to check that the other wasn't busy. Hoping that he wasn't, he sighed and walked over, “Sometimes I have this urge to tear my roommate to shreds, but I can't since he is a ghost.” He grumbled, needing a break from constant annoyance.
He felt the shift in the air around him, warning him of Nico's presence mere seconds before the male walked into his home. An unexpected visit. Well, at least Erebus was dressed this time since he was in the process of preparing dinner. A glance over to the other and an amused huff from his nose. "You cannot. I know a few beings with certain abilities. Even spirits can be maimed." He slid the vegetables off the cutting board and into the bowl before barely lifting a finger to transport one of Nico's favorite drinks into the male's hand. Erebus then went to retrieve more ingredients since now he was cooking for two. "I presume he is causing too much noise?"

Dark and delicious: Thanatos/Nico/Percy.... *nods* Definitely, Octavian/Luke/Percy and Octavian/Luke/Jason/Percy (because I, apparently, like to torture you. :3). I think that is it, for now. Okay, so. For the future, not just for you but everyone: I don’t like making decisions, what do you think why I have so many ships I sail? I can’t make decisions. If you send me multiple and tell me to chose, I will just do them all. And I don’t mind, I really love answering asks. So just, you know, don’t send a bunch of them in one ask but send them as separate ask because if I hadn’t done three outta five of those already, I would now bundle five answers into this and that’s just kind of a mess and a long-ass post? Erebus/Nyx/Percy
1. Who’s the best gift giver? Do they go in on gifts or do itseparately?
Nyx and Erebus usually get something for Percy together, because they like spoiling their little prince. But Erebus is the one picking the gifts; he’s way better at this than his wife.
2. Sleeping arrangements: Do they push the beds together? Whotakes all of the blankets in bed? Who’s practically draped over theothers?
King and queen. Giant bed in the Mansion of Night. Percy hogging the blanket that his new step-son Morpheus made him to keep the nightmares and PTSD flashbacks at bay. Nyx hogging the Percy though. Erebus, freezing his ass off.
3. Who is always in the middle in triad cases?
Percy. Though occasionally he and Nyx need so much space that Erebus literally falls out of bed. He is Not Amused by that, but his lovers are too adorable to be called out on it.
4. How do date nights look like?
Erebus and Percy cook a great breakfast for Nyx and they eat together when she gets back from work in the morning. They usually laze around or nap for a while and then go out, walks along the beaches of the world and such.
5. Do any members get jealous? How do they act when they do?
Nyx. Totally the jealous type. Gets very possessive, likes to mark her “territory”. Percy likes the hickeys and the possessive sex that usually follows. Erebus is amazed by the fact that his wife hasn’t caught on with Percy knowing that she gets jealous easily, but he’s not gonna tell her because he’s enjoying himself too much too.
6. Who asked who out? How was the first date(s)?
Nyx and Erebus asked Percy out, though Erebus was the more diplomatic about those things. Nyx is more direct; Erebus figured that might scare Percy off.
7. Who brings home stray pets and convinces the others to keepthem?
Yeah, Percy. But Nyx and Erebus don’t mind; their palace is big enough and they are amused by giving their children some chores.
8. Who are the reckless ones that make Bad Decisions? Who arethe sensible ones who follow after them to make sure they don’tdie?
Percy: Embodiment of recklessness and bad decision making. But now he has a whole bunch of step-children who are very invested in him not getting killed. So, with that kind of backup? He’ll be fine. Erebus and Nyx are pleased that their children accepted Percy so readily.
9. Who’s the one who remembers everyone’s favoriteorders at cafes/restaurants?
Erebus would, he’s considerate like that.
10. Would/do they have kids? Who are the Responsible Parents,who are the Cool Parents™ to the polywogs?
Nyx and Erebus already have a whole bunch of super powerful godly kids and Percy first of all has to get used to being a stepfather now… to grown-ass gods like Eris, Hecate and Thanatos. So, yeah, he’s the cool step”dad” who gets in on their schenanigans.
Thanatos/Nico/Percy
1. Who’s the best gift giver? Do they go in on gifts or do itseparately?
Nico and Thanatos are both really good at this and don’t mind the expanses. Though Nico is a bit disturbed on being on the receiving end of getting expensive gifts and being spoiled. He mainly deflects and tells Thanatos to invest that kind of effort in Percy. Thanatos smiles and ignores Nico’s requests. Percy makes sure his Death Boys don’t forget to eat between work and bakes them muffins and brownies and packs them lunch with blue notes, because he cares.
2. Sleeping arrangements: Do they push the beds together? Whotakes all of the blankets in bed? Who’s practically draped over theothers?
Rich. Gods. Giant bed. Percy draped over Thanatos and Nico, but Thanatos’ wings draped over all three of them, in a cocoon of safety and warmth and love.

Nico, usually. Getting stuck between Percy and Thanatos for cuddle-purposes (because they both know how touch-starved their Ghost King still really is).

Fancy and cute and romantic. Thanatos is very thoughful. Nico and Percy are kinda just along for the ride, but they enjoy it.

Nico easily gets jealous. Thanatos isn’t the jealous type. Percy likes to use Nico’s jealousy for his own advantages (aka: angry sex and hickeys).

Thanatos did the pushing. He asked Nico out and he also asked Percy out.
7. Who brings home stray pets and convinces the others to keepthem?
Percy. Secretly also Nico, but Nico is more the “the giant hell-hound following me around is totally Percy’s because Percy got it from Daedalus but I kinda take her on walkies and cuddle with her and feed her and oh crap I adopted her too, didn’t I?”. Thanatos finds it endearing.
8. Who are the reckless ones that make Bad Decisions? Who arethe sensible ones who follow after them to make sure they don’tdie?
Percy and Nico are both good at getting into bad situations. Thanatos, as the God of Death, very invested on keeping his lovers’ souls on the right side of the Doors of Death.
