Writing Challenge #3
Consider this a bit of an intervention for creativity's sake. Okay folks! We got another challenge which focuses on our favorite series about half ghost heroes: Danny Phantom.
To Explore Uncharted Dimensions
Here are the rules.
Must be a crossover specifically with a fandom rarely utilized alongside Danny Phantom. These fandoms are prohibited: DC/DCU, MCU(lesser known series like Ghost Rider are available), MHA, How To Train Your Dragon, Rise of the Guardians, Nicktoons Unite.
Some potential ideas: Transformers, Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, Hellsing, Persona, A Hat In Time.
Any fandoms used must be present. This can range from characters talking about/exploring their respective worlds, teaming up, etc. Don't let Danny or associated characters stumble around without proper interaction to this new environment/situation.
No species swap. There have been many times a character was changed upon just ENTERING and reverting the transformation becomes the entire focus. Danny is the usual victim too. Everyone stays as they are! Temporary power ups like the Boo Mushroom can be used.
Comics, songfics, and poetry count to. A story must be present no matter what you write. Even if its crack or crack taken seriously!
That's all the rules. Everything else is up to you! That's it for now! Until next time folks, I'm going ghost!

Centaurworld (2021)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
-Spoilers-
I’ve been thinking about Centaurworld so much I wanted to make a fuller review.
This show really snuck up on me. Seeing the title card on Netflix, I thought it was going to have a very squiggly, floppy, intentional ugly style and mostly butt humor. But eventually I saw the Wammawink backstory scene as a preview and it pulled me right in.
I get catnipped so hard by things that play with animation styles. I love the way we begin crisp and formal with an anime rider and a classic-Disney horse, and then warp into insane squishy Nicktoons world.
I’m just absorbed with how high the production value is when it comes to unique poses and tweens. The animators really get to have as much fun as they want and every moment feels so alive and playful.
I love the idea behind Horse disturbingly evolving into a cartoony style from being in Centaurworld. But I find squishy Horse a hundred times less pleasing to look at than Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron Horse, which I think is the greatest tragedy of the show.
I love that all the important characters are women. I love that Horse has no Female Character Design at all, while also having this cute vulnerable-seeming voice. I love that her problem is being too tough.
I really, really enjoy what my girlfriend referred to as female Over the Hedge dynamics: a bold leader and a protective leader vying on how to take care of their found family.
My favorite one is Glendale. God, she’s so funny and off the wall. She makes me lose it.
I have so much affection for Wammawink. She’s so feminine and motherly and a complete freak.
Though I have to admit, I usually didn’t enjoy Ched being there. He’s just racist against horses, it usually didn’t land as much of a joke.
There’s something really fascinating and special about the tone of this show. On the surface, Centaurworld runs on whimsy - everything is cartoon logic, anything can happen, everyone is crazy. But it’s also a world where people are living continuous lives and serious things can happen. You can die, you can get hurt, you can lose the ones you love. The characters experience these things with full depth of emotion. It’s so not a crass gotcha like “lol what if the care bears killed each other!” It’s just totally sincere and natural.
It makes me remember an Adventure Time artist saying, like, it is a cartoon, but it also has its own physical logic and events have consequences. This is so like that. The cartoon logic is totally loose and crazy, but the magic behind it is this thing that’s acknowledged in the world and has its own kind of limitations.
The storytelling has a kind of creative ambiguity that I love. We meet all these crazy characters and societies and engage with lots of overt themes and worldviews and we aren’t really told what to think about them. It makes the world feel big and interesting.
The music is so great. There are so many fun hooks and evocative instrumentations. When they break out the eerie chorus, like with the taurnado and the Nowhere King lullaby, it just makes my heart race. It’s interesting that Netflix supplies the label “Childrens’ Music”. I don’t think the show is specifically for children, but I do love the way it draws on cutesy, sunshiney, and heartwarming styles in both sincere and ironic ways.
Initially, the end of Season 1 was a major disappointment for me. The new premise, “there’s a bad guy with an army we have to fight,” felt thoroughly generic and uncompelling. It felt like it had rolled into the stale-ending gutter that I think a voting majority of all contemporary stories do.
From the lullaby, the Nowhere King was such an eerie and ambiguous presence. I imagined him as another Centaurworld denizen they would meet on their way, living in some barren valley, who would pose some strange, interesting, chilling obstacle. “You will bring joy to the Nowhere King when he sees the light leaving your eyes” is so intriguingly ambiguous. Does he kill you, or does he somehow drain your happiness away?
I found it a letdown that he was just a powerful guy that kills you.
But Season 2 picked the torch right back up and ran, and I had a wonderful time. The recruitment story was lots of fun and fully continued the feeling of weirdness and exploration. And the further development of the Nowhere King was really excellent and compelling.
I lost my shit at Glendale’s TED talk. Whoever wrote that arc is the smartest person alive. Her shocking competence coming from working on her own anxiety… the nuanced, modern analysis of the coldtaurs’ behavior told in brilliant rhymes… the way her voice just gets deep, even, and sexy when she’s in charge… I loved that so much. I listen to that song all the time.
I won’t get into all of the other parts that I found especially compelling and great. And definitely there were elements I didn’t find pleasant and parts that I didn’t find as interesting. But clearly the creators had a great time telling a big crazy story and I loved watching it. I hope they all feel pretty proud of themselves.

Here’s my idea for a Saturday morning programming block:
Omega, a programming block on The CW
Here’s the programming lineup:
Starting off at 7:00 is Mew Mew Power, formerly aired on Fox’s 4Kids TV. Because screw EI, I want some magical girl anime! Yes, the dub might suck (comes with the territory of 4Kids), but seeing how we need at least an hour of this shit a day, I’d figure we’d start Omega off right!
7:30 is Powerpuff Girls Z. This show never had a proper release in the US, probably because of the hate this show got, but the original would probably get thrown off for being “too violent”, and I am not going near that reboot, so here we are! Plus, I just love this show!
8:00 is Transformers: Animated, formerly aired on Cartoon Network (and later Hub Network). This will forever be my favorite show in the Transformers franchise, G1 be damned. I really think this could have worked well on the last months of Kids WB, considering that the only shows worth watching during that time were World of Quest, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Tom & Jerry Tales. But it didn’t, and here I am talking about it.
8:30 is Hot Wheels Battle Force 5, previously aired on Cartoon Network. Now, truth be told, I don’t actually remember that much about Battle Force 5; as the only interaction I had with the show was being on the website a lot when I was six, and watching a little bit of the show. But I’ll be damned if The CW doesn’t carry at least one racing-themed cartoon, wether it be this or Speed Racer or hell, even Wacky Races would do!
9:00 is Spider Riders, previously aired on Kids WB, and later This TV’s Cookie Jar Toons. This is one of two veterans from Kids WB, and DAMN! Do I like this one! I remember watching this show on Netflix when I was, like, 6, when my mom took notice of me watching Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, and found it to be to inappropriate for my 6-year-old self, and sent me to the kids’ section, where I looked for anime and found this gem. I haven’t come back to it yet, but mark my words, one day I will!
9:30 is Code Lyoko, previously aired on Cartoon Network’s Miguzi. I remember watching this a lot with my cousin Jeremy (coincidence, right?). And it’s BACK on Netflix, where I have the entire series downloaded. I’m not finished yet, but I will be.
10:00 is Yu-Gi-Oh, previously on Kids WB, and later Toonzai and Vortexx, as well as Cartoon Network and even Nicktoons. Remember what I said about Spider Riders being one of two Kids WB veterans? Well, this is the other veteran I was talking about. You can’t have an anime-themed Saturday morning programming block without Yu-Gi-Oh! It’s unnatural! Science confirmed it!
10:30 is Zatch Bell, previously aired on Cartoon Network. I think this is kid-friendly enough, so we’ll put it here. Zatch Bell is something I discovered when my brother-in-law turned on Crunchyroll while I was on the computer (this was while I was, like, 10) and turned on this. I was hooked, at least while that show was on. Later on, I looked more into it, and I actually kinda liked it. Even wanted to make a sequel, even though my brain wasn’t smart enough to realize that wouldn’t work. But anyway, I really like this one, and I put it here!
11:00 is Dragon Ball Z Kai (the edited version), previously aired on Toonzai and Vortexx, and also Nicktoons. Dragon Ball franchise has gotten some backlash in recent years, due to the somewhat-controversial Dragon Ball Super (which is now banned in Argentina). But I put DBZ Kai on here because this isn’t DBS. And it helps that it’s been on the CW before.
Ending off at 11:30 with The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police, formerly airing on Fox Kids. This is the oldest program on the block, and one of two shows to air on Fox, rather than The CW or The WB, the other one being Mew Mew Power. I rather enjoy this one. Its zany humor really hits the spot, and it’s a great way to end off Omega.
Other shows could include Speed Racer: The Next Generation, Skylanders Academy, Men in Black: The Series, Jackie Chan Adventures, and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

So i saw Matpat’s latest video about shared universes (starting with Doom and somehow connecting it with Kingdom Hearts) and my crazy brain thought it would be a good idea to expand it even FURTHER all because he used Spider-Man to connect to Thanos in Fortnite (yes seriously)
So behold, all the shit i had to go through to make connections to everything i can find and think of
So since all Spider-Mans are in one multiverse, that means all versions of Spider-Man are canon, so let's look at two cases of alternate Spider-Mans. Theres the Japanese Spider-Man, which was created by Toei as a collab by Marvel, Toei also created Super Sentai, which has connections to Kamen Rider (Super Hero Taisen), Metal Hero (some crossover movies), and obviously Power Rangers. Power Rangers had a crossover with TMNT, which has connections to not only other versions of TMNT but also other series like Batman (basically the whole DC universe is involved), Archie, X-Files, Ghostbusters, Rabbids (they were an extra character in a fighting game, as like a promotion for the new game), and all the toons that showed up in Cartoon All-Stars, like the Smurfs, Alf, Garfield, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Winnie the Pooh (which is already tying back up to Kingdom Hearts), Muppet Babies, Looney Toons, and Ducktales.
Now Muppet Babies is part of the Muppet franchise, the Muppets are connected to Sesame Street, which opens up a can of worms for connections. Some characters cameoed in Between the Lions, Mr Rogers' Neighbor Hood, The Electric Company, Reading Rainbow, Poky Little Puppy, and a bunch of these characters appeared in a We are Family music video, which has *inhales* Bear in the Big Blue House, Barney, Arthur, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Rugrats, The Magic School Bus, SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Blue's Room, Blue's Clues, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Kim Possible, The Proud Family, LazyTown, Lilo & Stitch: the Series, Madeline,Little Bill, The Fairly OddParents, Zoom, AND a whole bunch more shows.
Obviously Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Odd Parents had a crossover (three in fact), but those other shows had crossovers too, like Rugrats having a crossover with Wild Thornberrys, Lilo and Stitch had crossovers too, they had crossovers with The Proud Family, Kim Possible, Recess, and American Dragon Jake Long. Spongebob is connected to a lot of Nicktoons shows through the bumpers on the channel and had a major crossovers with Fairly Odd Parents, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, Tak, and Invader Zim in the Nicktoons Unite games.
Looney Toons is connected to all other Hanna Barbera property, which had crossovers as well (look at Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry, they're LOADED with crossovers with other series), as for the Looney Toons cast themselves, examples include Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pokemon (in a commercial in Kids WB), The Justice League, Wild Kratts (Kinda? The two characters, Road Runner and Wild E. Coyote, were pretty much referenced as a way to say that real life coyotes can catch up to road runners), and The Amazing World of Gumball. And Pokemon had a crossover game with Nobunaga's Ambition called Pokemon Conquest. AND Ducktales is connected to Darkwing Duck and the same goes with the reboot.
Okay now back to where we started, Power Rangers had a crossover episode with Masked Rider, which is an adaptation of Kamen Rider Black RX, Kamen Rider had a FEW crossovers with other series, like Crayon Shin-chan, Pac-Man, Osomatsu-San, Hello Kitty, Pretty Cure, and a few others. Pretty Cure only had crossovers with itself but there is one pic floating around the internet showing one of the Cures standing in front of Arresterdramon Superior Mode, so it might hint to a commercial happening during that time. Hello Kitty has a ton of crossovers with different series, such as Sonic, Cookie Run, Pac-Man, Puzzles and Dragons, Doraemon, Yokai Watch, and several others. In Osomatsu-San Hesokuri Wars, they have costumes/sets of the six brothers being yokai, magical girls, monsters, angels, knights, super heroes, greek
gods, and others. Yokai is also connected to Yokai Watch, which has it's own crossovers with other series, like Final Fantasy, Terminator, Inazuma Eleven (which had commercials that crossed over with Despicable Me), The Seven Deadly Sins, Detective Conan, Hello Kitty (which brings this back to Hello Kitty and its crossovers), Inuyasha, Professor Layton, and several others. Professor Layton had a crossover game with Ace Attorney, which has many references and a small amount of crossovers.
Now let's move on to another Spider-Man, the one from Ultimate Spider-Man, obviously he's connected to the other Marvel shows that take place in that universe, but Spider-Man had crossover episodes/specials with Phineas and Ferb and Jessie, Jessie having connections with other Disney Sit-com shows like Austin and Ally, Good Luck Charlie, Liv and Maddie, and a few others, HOWEVER Mr. Moseby from the Suite Life of Zach and Cody appeared in one episode, which means that Jessie is in the same universe as That's So Raven, Hannah Montanna, Cory in the House (yeah yeah yeah, i can hear the anime memes from a mile away -_-), and Wizards of the Waverly Place. Phineas and Ferb also had crossover specials/episodes with Star Wars and Milo Murphy's Law, Star Wars has many crossovers and references in other shows, like the Muppets, Seasame Street, Captain N, Mario (in that old Mario cartoon episode where they parodied it), Putt-Putt, Megaman, Duke Nukem, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Dragon Ball, Transformers, Metal Gear, Angry Birds, Lego, Club Penguin, and several others.
The Star Wars references were in Megaman V and Megaman Zero, sprites from Megaman Zero were used to create sprites of TV Tome Adventures, which then became TOME: Terrain of Magical Expertise and then it turned into the video game version of that show, the creator of the show, Kirbopher, did an animation related to Super Mario RPG, and had many voice roles like in Mob Psycho 100, Pokemon, and other series. Dragon Ball is the prequel of Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Z Super made it clear that there's other universes so all of those are connected as well, and Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z had crossovers with other shows like One Piece, Dr Slump, Astro Boy, Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo, and a few others. Metal Gear had crossovers and references in Terminator, Gundam, Castlevania, Mario, Zelda, Ape Escape, Yugioh (which connects itself to the other seasons like GX, 5D's, Zexal, Arc-V, and Vrains), Monster Rancher, Yoshi, The Standley Parable (only in the demo), and several others. Transformers, since it's made by Hasbro, is also connected to other Hasbro property, such as My Little Pony (and Equestria Girls), and they had references to other series in both the show and in the IDW comics, like pony versions of Rick and Morty appearing in one episode, pony versions of characters from Sailor Moon, Gravity
Falls, Kill La Kill, Scooby Doo, Powerpuff Girls, Frozen, and few other shows and even pony versions of IRL people like Gordon Ramsey. Transformers had crossovers and references to other series as well such as G.I Joe, Doctor Who, Spider Man, Star Wars, Marvel, and several other shows, and apparently Jem, Inhumanoids, C.O.P.S, and Robotix takes place in the Transformers universe.
Angry Birds had crossovers with other series like Rio, Star Wars, Puzzles and Dragons, Transformers, Sonic, The Muppets, and many levels in their games make references to other series. Lego Dimensions is full of crossovers, like The A-Team, Adventure Time, Back to the Future, Beetlejuice, DC Comics, Doctor Who, E.T, Fantastic Beasts, Ghostbusters (both the original and the 2016 reboot), The Goonies, Gremlins, Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Knight Rider, Legends of Chima, other Lego property, Lord of the Rings, Midway Arcade, Mission: Impossible, Portal, Powerpuff Girls, Scooby-Doo, Simpsons, Sonic, Teen Titans Go!, and The Wizard of Oz. Speaking of The Simpsons, they had crossovers with other shows like Family Guy and Futurama, AND they cameoed appeared in South Park, and Family Guy is in the same universe as American Dad and The Cleveland Show. The Simpsons also had crossovers with The Critic, X-Files, King of the Hill, Robot Chicken, Bob's Burgers (which means it's also connected to the Archer Show), Rick and Morty, and several series get mentioned in the show itself. As for Sonic, he had a crossover comic series with Megaman, he had crossovers in the comics with Sabrina the Teenage Witch and DC (it was part of a Sonic Super Special comic but for some reason the Wikis won't tell me if it's generally DC or some part of it >:/ ), Sonic had levels in Sonic Lost World that were crossovers with NiGHTS, Legend of Zelda, and Yoshi's Wooly World, in Sonic Forces, there's DLC costumes that are based off of NiGHTS, Beat from Jet Set Radio, AiAi from Super Monkey Ball, and Joker from Persona 5. Sonic had crossover games with other SEGA series, but in Sonic Dash, they had events that had crossovers with Angry Birds, Hello Kitty, and Pac-Man. In one of the Vocaloid games, Miku had a costume that was a Sonic hoodie, to celebrate Sonic's anniversary, Vocaloid made many songs and some of these songs branch out into their own series, one of them being Black Rock Shooter, and i swear BRS was a guest character in some fighting game but i don't remember what the name was.
Okay, now let's head back to Marvel, one of the characters that's paired up with Spider-Man (except for the Movie universe) is Deadpool, and in one comic, he takes a girl to see Hamilton. In one of the Hamildrops, they did a crossover song which was a mix of Story of Tonight and You'll be Found from Dear Evan Hansen called "Found Tonight", one of the actors from Dear Evan Hansen is now playing the role of Jeremy in Be More Chill, and in the original 2015 performance of BMC, the actor who played Jenna also played Martha in Heathers, and Eric William Morris, who played Squip, also played Jordan in The Ballad of Little Jo. And since we're using actors to connect series...*inhales* Lin Manuel Miranda (who plays Alexander in Hamilton) also had roles in In The Heights, 21 Chump Street, Mary Poppins Returns, Ducktales Reboot, Do No Harm, Looking for Maria Sanchez, Sesame Street, House M.D, and a few others. Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel to the original Mary Poppins so they instantly connect, and i'm gonna make a crazy theory of House M.D taking place in the same city (or state) as Blue Bloods and Forever, both shows have characters played by Eric William Morris, who had roles in Trust, Greed, Bullets, and Bourbon, Royal Pains, As The World Turns, and few other small roles. But one of his current roles is Carl from King Kong Broadway, which is based off of King Kong, and King Kong had a crossover film with Godzilla, and there's a short film that had Ultraman and Kamen Rider (i think it was Godzilla?? It was a giant lizard thing :/). However, King Kong was the inspiration behind Donkey Kong, which now has connections to both Mario and Donkey Kong series. Donkey Kong had crossovers/references with Frogger, Pitfall, Qubert, Mickey (from Disney), Punch Out, Mother, Earthworm Jim, Kirby, Crash Bandicoot, Banjo Kazooie, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Scott Pilgrim, The Fast and the Furious, Class of 3000, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, Big Bang Theory, Metroid, Pushmo, Minecraft, Gravity Falls, Wreck It Ralph, Pixels, Skylanders, several others, and had japanese exclusive songs in Donkey Konga that had songs from Super Sentai, Pretty Cure, Pikmin, Naruto, Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo, Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball Z, Star Fox, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Ice Climbers, and several others.
Minecraft had a Super Mario texture pack in the Switch version of Minecraft, plus a Steven Universe texture pack as well, there are console exclusive skins based off of characters from Gears of War, Halo, Banjo-Kazooie, Dust, Tony Hawk, Left 4 Dead, Boarderlands, Conker, Half-Life, Portal, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, and several other shows. Steve from Minecraft can be an unlockable character in games like Super Meat Boy, Choplifter, Retro City Rampage, and Creepers can be found in Blocks that Matter, Boarderlands, Torchlight, and Minecraft is refernced in Adventure Time, Octodad, The Stanley Parable, Skyrim, and South Park. And since Minecraft has Halo skins, this ties into Red VS Blue, a show that uses assets from the Halo series. And Red VS Blue appeared in a promotional video alongside the main cast of RWBY. Mother (or Earthbound) is the inspiration for Undertale, which had a sequel called Deltarune, and in one of the locations in Deltarune is a place called "Ice-E's Pezza", and Burgerpants mentions a guy named "Purple Guy" which is a reference to Purple Guy from Five Nights at Freddies. Crash Bandicoot had two crossover games with Spyro the Dragon and had references in Uncharted, Futurama, Johnny Test, Family Guy, Jimmy Neutron, The Country Bears, Jak and Daxter, Friends, The Simpsons, Tomb Raider, and several others. And Mickey is one of the characters in Kingdom Hearts, so now we come in full circle with Matpat's theory.
So started with Spider-man (well two versions of Spider-man) and ended it with Mickey, i'm sure there's other series out there that i forgot to bring up but eh, this is long enough :/

Making Your Motorcycle Uniquely Yours
youtube
Check for quality. Be sure that the frame will not stain easily (rust looks much worse on a bike than routines on a car). Also, the saddlebags should fit tightly and securely around your bike; it's an absolute downer end every fifteen minutes and readjust your plastic bags. Soft sided luggage for motorcycle riders is usually waterproofed who has flaps and zippers pests must be everything inside dry and secure. Elements of design like studs and insignia are everyday. Hard motorcycle luggage is more expensive but is definitely also are more durable and usually has more storage space. Hard styles have a lock and key mechanism so you are leave items inside all of them peace of mind.

Whether it is your first time own a Harley bike or you're riding it for years, you certainly want to customize it from subtle details to large impact changes. Another issue is illness; no one plans regarding sick, yet it can come up. Being sick is bad; being sick and alone in a foreign country is severe. Which brings us on to insurance; whether you might be traveling alone or from a group, do the sensible thing, and certain that you both the real bike are covered.

Nick Games review: Nicktoons Racing ps1
Pros:
Great roster of Nick characters
Graphics and music capture the Nicktoons' vibe
Solid driving controls
Cons:
No statistical differences between racers
Uneven, and sometimes just plain cheap, track design
Items are poorly balanced, take too long to recover from
Powersliding and boosting are poorly implemented
Kart Racing games have become one of the most popular genres for companies to stick their licenses in. Name just about any popular character you can think of and I can guarantee you there's a racer with them in it. M&Ms, James Bond, Looney Tunes, all of them have taken a stab at mimicking Mario Kart. Sometimes they turn out decent, other times they feel like just a transparent attempt to cash-in on the craze. Nickelodeon's entry into the genre falls somewhere in between these two camps. There are times where you'll be having a blast shooting coconuts at racers, listening to them scream in frustration as you pass them by, and others where you'll be cursing as you are left in the dust after being staggered for a full three seconds or bump against a wall or one of the tracks' many roadblocks - often within a single race.
The first few minutes don't do much to inspire confidence. After the opening cutscene, in which it's explained that a black-clad 'Mystery Rider' has gotten Nickelodeon characters together for a race, you're thrown into the game's menus. It's here that you'll hear one of the most obnoxious sound effects in existence. Every time, every time you move the cursor to an option, a horn will briefly honk. Oh, and even if you don't, you'll have to put up with an obnoxious bounce when you just let the game sit on a option. Whoever thought it was a good idea to populate the menus with these ear-splitting sounds should be fired.
Once you're past the grating horn effects, it's off to the character select screen, and here you'll see a healthy selection of Nick racers. You'll likely recognize all the old favorites, like Spongebob, Patrick, Arnold, and Stimpy. There are some odd omissions, like Rocko, Doug, and Zim, but given I don't know the exact circumstances regarding exactly who the creators allowed in the game, I can't really complain over who wasn't there. If there's a real downside, it's that there are no strengths and weaknesses to distinguish the characters. If you've played kart racers before, you'd know that one of the major factors when choosing a racer is their individual statistics like weight, speed, and acceleration. In Nicktoons racer, there are no such aspects. Each racer more or less plays exactly the same, so the differences between them are purely aesthetic. It makes it very easy to choose your favorite character, but it also removes any element of strategy gained by working with each racer's respective strengths and weaknesses, which is a shame.
Once you pick your character, it's on to the track. The main attraction is the Cups, basically a racing circuit reminiscent of the ones from Mario Kart. Fortunately, the actual racing feels OK. Steering is responsive, and there is no shortage of the items that pay homage to the Nicktoons in the game. Some, like the Spongebob themed jellyfish, are shot right at an opposing racer, while others, like the Rugrats-themed talcum powder that slows karts down, are left behind on the track for other racers to run over. The tracks you'll race on are where the game hits a few roadblocks. There are some highlights, particularly early on. The ones in the 50 CC circuit, like the Rugrats themed Reptar Raceway and the Spongebob themed Bikini Bottom Blowout, are laid out quite well, with plenty of wide-open space, branching pathways, and shortcuts. The tracks in the next circuit, particularly the Ren and Stimpy themed Race Madness, began to wear at my patience. Featuring narrow corridors where it's easy to scrape into walls, loads of obstacles to bump into and a confusing maze-like layout (there are arrows pointing you in the right direction, but they're easy to miss when you're blazing through at high speeds), playing it is simply more of a hassle than it should be.
Many of these later tracks, with their tight corners, actually feel like they're built around the powerslide mechanic, which leads into another problem with the racing: powersliding sucks. It simply slides in too wide an arc to effectively lead you around corners. Frankly, you'll find that it's often easier to just take the turns without sliding. There's also a boost that's charged by picking up boost items scattered around the track, but its inclusion feels like a waste. In Mario Kart, much of the strategy came from using your boost at just the right time to get the lead. In Nixktoons Racing, it simply isn't possible to keep the boosts in reserve, since the meter drains if you let it sit for long. Frankly, if they were gonna force you to use it immediately they might as well have just placed more boost pads. Instead, you'll sometimes quickly use it when you're in the line of obstacles or tight corners, leading to several seconds being wasted as you try to regain your footing. So, basically, karts are great to control in wide-open spaces, but in close quarters and tight corners, it sucks.
The item usage also leaves something to be desired. It's not that the items are bad but rather that they tend to be a bit too effective. Recovering from being staggered by one of the other racer's items takes a whopping three seconds, during which time plenty of racers are bound to speed by. Too often winning feels less about driving skill and more about whoever was lucky enough not to get hit before crossing the finish line. And it's not like they're even especially well-balanced, since it's totally random as to which one you'll get, no matter which position you find yourself in. If you're in last place, what good will the dropped items like the trash can be?
Aside from the cups, there are a handful of other game modes you can partake in. Race for Fun is more or less how it sounds, a single race where you can win some (rather pointless) trinkets. Time Trial is, you guessed it, you running a race on your own and recording your time. Sounds fun, right? The last one, Relay Race, is the most interesting in concept. In the relay race, you select a team of three racers and switch to a new one as you finish each lap. The coolest thing about this mode is that hitting your next racer dead-on at the finish line gives you a speed boost to start the next lap, actually rewarding precise driving. Unfortunately, aside from that one neat gimmick, the relay race once again feels like missed potential. Without any stats to differentiate racers, any strategy gained from making a well-balanced team is lost, making the mode something of a waste.
At the very least, the game can't be faulted for its production. The tracks are all colorful and detailed, and do a great job of representing their respective Nicktoons, with Race Madness and the Hey Arnold-inspired Gritty City circuit serving as particular highlights in this regard. Likewise, the racers with only one or two exceptions translate solidly into the third dimension, aided by an early use of cel-shading to make them better match their cartoon counterparts. Sound-wise, obnoxious sound effects notwithstanding, the characters all have voice clips taken from the show, and while it's nice to hear characters like Spongebob talk smack when they land a hit on an enemy, you'll unfortunately hear these same clips over and over. There's only so many times you can hear Tommy cry in pain before you're ready to just turn the voices off. At least the soundtrack is good, with pieces that are a good match for the cartoons their respective tracks represent.
When all is said and done, Nicktoons Racing is a great bit of fan-service attached to a less-than-stellar kart racer. The Nicktoons are represented well, and the production values or solid, but the underlying racing is just too flawed to hold the interest of seasoned racing game aficionados for more than a few races. Fans who are looking for a good crossover of their favorite Nickelodeon characters could certainly do worse, but if you're looking for a great kart racer - or even a decent Mario Kart clone - you could do a whole lot better.
Gameplay: 6
Graphics: 8
Sound: 6
Value: 6
Overall: ***(3/5)
