wooo another year down and another year of art to look at and wow some of these you really gotta turn your brightness up on. This very much shows off what I was focused on in that time frame, huh? Also man, talk about style shifts.

Anyways, to end out the year I’d like to thank the folks in the GIMP server for constantly supporting my silly little doodles and listening to me die every weekend because of something arbitrary (color, line, etc.). Also !! Everyone on tumblr who enjoys my art !! Thank you so much!

the Crisis at the Clover is probably one of the funniest thing’s I’ve done. This was the Bounty Hunter arc in my SW brainrot, I had a ton of notes on the guild and underground organizations, and my beloved OC Sylv Rex, though ultimately ended up not doing all that much as I lost steam very fast. Alas.

I finished PLA during this time ! or at least got to Arceus, and then I lost my save file. So. Anyways !! I fucking love Clay still, it’s very upsetting that I lost my motivation to finish my PLA fic, but such is life. I think that this is by far one of the best works I’ve done with the lighting and rendering. very soft vibes

July:

July was another rough month for me, but I really liked how the commission I did that month turned out— especially since I hadn’t drawn Thrawn or Ventress before that moment. It was also my only July work.

August:

Boy oh boy was the Mortal Kombat brainrot strong. Leo got me into Mortal Kombat and man was it a wild ride. I remember originally sending sketches and drafts to the discord with like a stock photo background like “lol im not gonna do a background” and then about six days later just “i hate backgrounds why am i doing this” as i worked on the background. I do love Ciel. They’re a menace. I have a lot more draft and wip works for this month.

September felt waaay longer than it actually was ngl. I think i spent a lot of it asleep though, since my fall break was at the tale end of the month and that entire week was me taking naps and drawing a bit. Personally, I think star wars needs more instances where copious amounts of blood is just all over characters.

The Hades era for the spooky season~ I really did not do all that much in the last few months of the year and most of my month was spent working on Reiwa. The hades art style is insane. It’s like. Almost a throw back to the old pixel shading when you only had a handful of colors and a CRT to make the shading and such. It’s so cool yet so frustrating lol

November:

I really didn’t do all that much in November. I remember. I definitely wish that I had, but in the end I didn’t. I do like the redesign I did of Arvid though, and I had been working on commissions that I didn’t post here too

December:

December was the month of Finals, being drawn back into the FMA fandom and also being thrown headlong into the COD fandom. I actually had initally planned to finish a few other works this month, but ended up not doing so due to holiday distraction. At least Emilia and Overlord look nice. This was also the first time I had drawn Darth Maul.

Wait I'm curious- who caused what scandal in you're previous ask? I'm very new to Tumblr and just trying to find safe people to follow and I'd like to know who I should avoid.

Keeping this one under a read more as well, but I'll give you a quick rundown.

I only know what I've been told by my friend but around July to late October last year nim-lock (or nimlock on other platforms), a bobadin shipper and content creator, joined the ranks of the more prominent and respectable SW fandom artists (we're talking big name artists like Kush or even Nibeul before they left the fandom), and got a lot of support from the community in general to get their art out there by hiding the fact they were a cl*necest shipper.

One day they just let it out of the bag. The other artists had long since expressed how bad cl*necest was and that they were very much against it, and nim-lock simply ignored all that, got their art promoted for free, and then when they were satisfied they revealed their true colours. It was basically a slap in the face to everyone who they'd gained the trust of.

As you can imagine this has caused lasting trust issues within the community because someone disrespectfully encroached on what was meant to be a safe space away from that sort of content, and while they've been blacklisted by a lot of the SW Fandom artists on Tumblr and on other social media platforms, they still basically went unpunished because their art gets a ton of views from those who don't care or don't know that they endorse incestuous/gross ships.

All I can really advise you to do for following safe people is to honestly just check out their posts and who they follow to make sure they aren't ok with stuff like that (example: cobaltbeam is known for being quite friendly with well known cl*onecest content creators and they follow nim-lock on twitter so those are massive red flags) .

I know there's a lot of new folks around that don't know everything that's gone on in the fandom (myself included), so I mostly give people the benefit of the doubt if they follow certain people that hide the fact they support cl*necest. My friend came to me on Wednesday specifically to warn me about cobaltbeam being in silent support of it so that was a bullet dodged.

Padme Amidala

Okay, so I was talking with @/cinnabarvoid on Instagram a while ago and we were talking about Padme and she told me that Padme actually means Lotus in Sanskrit! So in character with my recent actions, I decided that I was going to make Padme Desi/Indian-Mongolian. Padme is wearing a sari outfit inspired by her lake house dress, which ngl fits pretty well with the lotuses behind her hehe. However, I tried to add some Mongolian influence in her hairstyle and the patterns on the Sari, which I found were common on Mongolian deels.

The word Padme is most commonly associated with a mantra Om Mani Padme Hum, associated with the Buddhist manifestation of compassion. This figure is also commonly called Padmapani (similar to Padme Amidala ey? Amidala is Italian tho). I really enjoy Nibs’s (@/nibeul if anyone doesn’t know) interpretation but I just wanted to try and bring in some South Asian influences into Padme, since it seems like GL was doing that with Padme’s name. Why not push that even further?

*whispers* I would like to hear what you have to say on reader inserts in the SW fandom because I too have a problem with them and I feel like not enough people are calling it out 👉👈

I’ve made a few posts about it in the past but I think it’s high time I actually Do This and really get into it.

Before I start: 1) This will be in specific reference to fanfiction written for the Star Wars fandom, particularly tcw and the mandalorian eras, 2) A lot of the issues come down to racist fetishization of men of color by white women; I am white, so there is much that is simply not my place to make statements on. What I can speak most on is my take from the gender side of things.

I’d honestly recommend reading this post by @nibeul with addition by @clonehub first, as they discuss the core issue with reader inserts in the Star Wars fandom.

And 3) some of this will involve discussion of sexual acts (as they relate to fanfiction) and sexual fantasies. These discussions will be non-explicit, and no pornographic text or content will be displayed.

Also. I’m GNC and nonbinary. I’m also a very feminine looking person that falls under the generalization of “small and petite.” I don’t have dysphoria, I like my body and the traits I have, and treating them like inherently female sends me into a blind fury. This is, unfortunately, important.

For the sake of making sure I come across as clearly as possible, I will be writing as though the reader of this post has never read or is broadly unfamiliar with reader-insert fanfiction.

Without further ado.

Hey, Star Wars reader insert fic writers? Please get your shit together.

INTRODUCTION

I’ve been reading reader-insert fanfiction since I was a grade schooler waking up early to check Quizilla. I love it! It got me into fandom, kept me engaged, helped me make and develop some of my oldest OCs, and it’s just fun to read and write- it’s like a self-indulgent little gift you can give to a bunch of people all at once. Because who doesn’t like the idea of starring in their own little adventure, usually alongside some of their favorite characters? It can be fun, immersive, get you attached in ways other ways of fandom interaction may not, make you feel just a little bit special, or be a way to express some feelings you might have about canon and the way the story went.

Like any form of fiction, it ends up saying more about the author’s feelings than anything else, whether the author realizes it or not. For many, many authors of reader-insert fanfiction, the primary enjoyment comes from writing “themselves” into the story- before the readers, the author most often makes the “reader character” someone they, themselves, can relate to and substitute for themselves. They write to live out a self-indulgent fantasy they have, and their readers can come along for the ride.

Some writers do actually try to write as diverse or as vague of a reader character as possible- as few details about the body, identity, etc. as possible so anyone could superimpose their image without the narrative directly contradicting it. This is not the kind of reader insert author I will be discussing.

The kind of author I will be discussing is the one most common in the Star Wars tag on Ao3: White, AFAB, cisgender, gender-conforming, able-bodied women who assume all of their readers are also White, AFAB, cisgender, gender-conforming, able-bodied women. Yes, you can tell.

ISSUE: fetishization of men of color

Again, this post puts it in the best words, but there is a rampant problem with Star Wars reader-inserts, particularly those involving the clones, Boba Fett, and Din Djarin, fetishizing characters played by men of color as either “physically aggressive and threatening, hypersexual and dominant, big strong men who are scary because they do violence and fuck constantly when they’re not” or “completely inexperienced baby who doesn’t know anything about things and needs a gentle nurturing guiding touch to introduce him to the mere idea of a vagina.” The former is common across all of them, the latter most common among clone trooper fics or Din/Reader.

I went into the Boba Fett/Reader tag on Ao3, because I like him and hoped to find something alright. Here are some stats I tallied up (give or take some) based solely on tags, summaries, and warnings:

There are 284 works in the Boba Fett/Reader category as of the time of this post.

198/284 are rated E for explicit sexual content. 69.7% of all Boba Fett/Reader works are sexually explicit.

259/284 are in the F/M category. 91.2% of all Boba Fett/Reader works involve an explicitly female or AFAB reader.

24/284 are tagged with or mention “Age difference,” “Older man/Younger woman,” “Innocence kink” or “Virginity kink.” 8.4% of all Boba Fett/Reader works are written explicitly with an age gap, with Boba Fett as the older party

26/198 E rated fics are tagged with or make reference to “Daddy kink” or involve the reader being called some variation of “little girl” by Boba. 13% of all E-rated works under Boba Fett/Reader are daddy kink fics, or allude to Boba Fett being a daddy dom/sugar daddy.

102/198 E rated fics are tagged as, make reference to, or suggest in the summary that Boba Fett takes a dominant sexual role with a submissive reader involving rough or painful play, or make reference to Boba Fett being frightening, physically intimidating, having a power dynamic over the reader, or being possessive or violent. 51.51% of all E-rated works under Boba Fett/Reader portray Boba Fett as sexually dominant and/or enacting use of physical force or pain play.

Just using this as an example, because it’s the easiest stats I can gather and also what made me realize there was a pattern.

The problem isn’t even necessarily that people write explicit fic about Boba- it’s that 1) over half of all fics in the category are explicitly pornographic, and 2) the way those pornographic fics are written. The two things compound on each other. They’re dominance fantasies projected onto a character of color in which he becomes extremely sexual, physically rough with the reader, possessive, and demeaning towards a reader character who is always written as White, AFAB, and petite.

This brings me to the next issue.

ISSUE: The way sexual relationships are portrayed.

Let me clarify so there is no chance of me being misunderstood: sex is good. Liking and wanting and enjoying sex isn’t bad. It is not bad if you are AFAB and have submissive fantasies. It is not bad to be sexually attracted to a man of color. You can write about sex even if you haven’t had it. Writing about sex can be a good way to express some more complicated feelings you could have about certain things. It doesn’t even have to be realistic. It has its time and it has its place.

This being said.

Sexual relationships as they are portrayed in the vast majority of E-rated Star Wars reader inserts are… not great.

The reader is always AFAB. I can think of maybe one fic off the top of my head where an AFAB reader was written with they/them pronouns and not just she/her.

The reader is almost always submissive, the dominant character is almost always portrayed as cis male. Even when the characters are supposed to just be having spontaneous casual sex, D/S or BDSM aspects will be introduced with no prior discussion or talks about it afterwards. Sometimes characters will start using dirty talk and it just does not fit at all, but it’s what the author thought was hot.

Sometimes, it just reads like a quick smutty oneshot. More often than that, it reads like the author doesn’t realize that sex… isn’t always a dom/sub thing. Or that someone can take the lead in sex and that doesn’t automatically make them a dom.

It’s not bad to be inexperienced. It’s not bad to have preferences or kinks or specific turn-ons.

But it gets… tiring to read, over and over and over and over, because that’s all there is.

That and… I dunno, it just has me a little worried? It doesn’t make me feel good knowing so many people can only portray a sexual relationship if it’s dom/sub. I don’t know why it makes me so uneasy.

Vanilla sex isn’t a bad thing I promise. It's this feeling of insistence that something "spicy" absolutely has to happen for it to be worth writing that gives... some weird vibes.

I’m going to move on to the next Big-

ISSUE: Every “reader” character is exactly the same

By which I mean the following:

Always cis AFAB female

If a character is written with gender neutral pronouns they will always be AFAB and written like Girl Lite

I have never seen an explicitly stated nonbinary/gnc reader character unless it was a request specifically for a nonbinary reader

I have never seen a gender neutral reader insert fic where the reader was AMAB

I have seen a grand total of 1 cis male reader fic and 1 trans male reader fic. The trans male reader fic was about dysphoria.

The reader is allowed to have one of the following backstories: slave/runaway, mechanic, medic, ex-Rebel, secret Jedi, bounty hunter.

The reader is allowed to have one of the following personality traits: throws knives, babysitter, completely civilian, WOMAN, says curse words.

The reader is never written with any narrative agency- things only ever happen to the reader character or around the reader character, they are never written to take charge and actually affect things on their own. Essentially the sexy lamp trope.

Remember when I said the majority of people writing Star Wars reader-insert fanfic on Ao3 were White, cisgender AFAB women who are gender-conforming and able-bodied? This is how you can tell.

It’s at this point where you can tell they’re really not meant to be reader-inserts, but author-inserts with the names removed- they were only meant for a very narrow selection of readers.

I’m nonbinary, I’m gnc, and I’m a very feminine looking person, generally speaking. I’m used to people looking at me and assuming oh, girl. I’m at peace with that.

I can barely stand reading some of these fics just because of how much the author emphasizes that the reader is FEMALE shes a WOMAN with BOOBS and a VAGINA and FEMININE WILES. There’s barely ever even a chance to give myself room to mentally vault over all the “she”s and “her”s because then I’m getting hit with Din or someone calling the reader “girl” or “the woman.” It’s unbearable, and I even fall into the general description every fucking fic author uses for their generic protagonist!

Even with the “gender-neutral reader” fics, it is just. Painfully clear that they just wrote a female character and changed the pronouns- no, there is no such thing as “male behavior” or “female behavior,” and I quite heartily rebel against the concept of gender essentialism. And honestly, I can barely even begin piecing together how I know it and what it feels like, because it’s just one of those vague conglomerates of cues and writing patterns I can’t consciously pick up on but I know it’s there- it’s frustrating, it’s demeaning, and it feels like you’d have to threaten these authors at gunpoint to get them to write a reader character who was any major deviation from the same three cutouts they use every time.

It seems like they can’t possibly force themselves to write a reader character who isn’t meek and submissive or has the sole personality traits of “mean and can hit things”- you can actually strike a balance between “absolutely no personality” and “fleshed out oc” you know? And you don’t actually have to tell the reader what their hair looks like or how full their figure is

It’s like 2:20 AM and I started this at like 8something PM but.

I’m someone who loves reader-inserts. I enjoy them. I still check for new ones regularly. I’ve been reading them for well over half my life now.

So many of these authors are just locked in on exactly one way to write things and it fucking shows. It’s like a self-feeding loop, they just keep writing the same things and the same dynamics because they see each other doing it and they never think about taking a step back.

It’s… exhausting. I’m exhausted. If you’re a reader-insert fic writer and you want to improve your reader character inclusivity and have also read this far, you can DM me or shoot me an ask.

First off, lol idrc if y’all think having an Oc that is close with the main characters or just a self insert is dumb, I’m just doing my own thing n I really don’t want 2 hear about it,,,

Second:

Tis General Milo Shep (or Shepard idk which one yet) jedi leader of a Special Ops squad, its just 8 clones and himself, Captain Cloud is his second in command (until he gets his own padawan in which cause they will become his commander).

-his Jedi master is General Plo Koon, he has trained with him for years and much like the wolf pack does, sees him as a father figure.

-Milo has met and befriended Ahsoka as well (“any friend of my master’s is a friend of mine!”) he thinks she’s extremely cool, being as young as she is and how much control of the force she has.

- his padawan of his own would probably be a twi’lik

Summery: Plo Koon had hidden a… problem he sustained on Kohrm from the others. Unfortunately, it had to do with his mask. Fortunately, Kit Fisto is there.

Kit Fisto knew things, as surprising as it seemed to some people. He was not stupid, and it still made him roll his eyes sometimes when people were that startled when he exercised his “smarts”.

He had no need to constantly show off his intellect— Vokara Che and Micah Giiett had been the visible geniuses of their Creche group. He, Saldith, and Shaak Ti preferred to not show their full hands… and Qui-Gon had been… Qui-Gon.

So yeah, Kit Fisto wasn’t an idiot. He had been one of the Order’s political liaisons with Adi Gallia before the war and had taken time to study Healing with Vokara under the former Head Healer and former Head Mind-Healer Qin Koh and Nix Mora respectively. He had bothered the Archival Branch of Jedi enough as a child that Madame Jocasta Nu still kept him in her sights just so that he didn’t bother the other staff.

And he was observant. He had become observant.

Kit had known Plo Koon long enough and been close with him long enough that he had taken time to research, memorize, and recognize the signs of oxygen poisoning.

He had known the Kel Dor and rescued too many overly ambitious divers to know that oxygen poisoning in Kel Dor looked eerily similar to what happened with malfunctioning scuba gear.

Kit had been keeping a close eye on the other Master and his partner ever since Ventress had forced an avalanche down on their heads but with all that had gone on with Sharp and also the final battle with Ventress (Commander Wolffe lost his godsdamned eye, that witch).

And it was only once they were safely aboard The Renascence did Kit snap back to attention and return to keeping an eye on Plo.

The Kel Dor didn’t seem to notice that Kit was observing him as he talked to some of the other Clones who had stayed above.

A bit twitchy, but that could just but the remaining adrenaline from a fight.

The same with his fatigue that Kit could pick up that was coming off of him.

But Kit knew better than to just write those points off. Better to be paranoid and it turns out that his partner was just mildly inconvenienced by his age than to be careless and learn that it really was oxygen poisoning.

As Kit removed his goggles that kept his eyes from drying out in the harsh cold, he slowly extended his senses, his tresses twitching, searching for signs of discomfort.

The only problem was that Plo’s arm was also broken, and like himself, the Kel Dor was likely sore from both the avalanche and those worms they used as transport.

He picked up discomfort, but from what?

No, he’d have to watch when Plo decided to move. If he was off-balance, if he was dizzy, then Kit would act.

He knew that the boys were setting up a barrier field and filter to replicate an anti-ox chamber for Plo since The Renaissance didn’t have one— it was Kit’s flagship, after all, one that was equipped for Nautolans but not for Kel Dor— but it would be a while before that was situated.

Well, at least it meant that Kit could get away with fretting over the older Master without Monnk and Flit glaring at him for neglecting his own injuries.

Still, Kit’s eyes flickered back to Plo as the other Jedi finished up his conversation with two of his Sergeants.

A wave of dismissal or farewell followed, and Kit easily slipped out of his jacket as Plo began to leave the command bridge.

Kit followed, and he knew that there was something wrong immediately. Hells, he didn’t even have to wait for Plo to sway or start to use the wall as support.

Because Plo always stopped when he knew Kit was following him, when Shaak Ti was, when Mace, when Eeth, when Saesee, when Commander Wolffe, when Boost, Sinker, Comet, when anyone was following him. Because Plo Koon liked to walk next to them. Liked to have a discussion when walking.

But Plo hadn't even glanced back when Kit followed him through.

And then Plo staggered.

But Kit was at his side almost instantly, catching the smaller Jedi as he pitched sideways. A garbled grunt that sounded somewhere between ‘What?’ and ‘Kit?’ escaped the Kel Dor but Kit ignored it.

“I knew this was bound to happen.”

Kit’s quarters- their quarters, really- weren’t close, but they sure were a hell of a lot closer than the Medbay.

It was probably the fastest that Kit had moved outside of battle in a long time, with Plo half stumbling along next to him and half being carried.

Oxygen breathers could become poisoned by it as well, their bodies could only handle so much of it in their body. Kel Dor could handle remarkably less. Only a tiny fracture of what the sandscorpion on Tatooine could— and they could last for four standard days without it.

But no matter the air that was breathed in, Kit knew one thing was the same for all sentients when it came to Oxygen Poisoning: Oxygen toxicity was only manageable by reducing the exposure to the increased oxygen levels.

Kit set Plo down on the Bunk, murmuring a soft ‘hold on for just a little bit longer' before moving to look for something, anything to ease the Oxygen Poisoning.

He was certain he kept Oxygen absorption patches around because of this— because, while he was incredibly smart and quick-witted, his partner was extremely stupid.

Kit was a Jedi, yes. He knew that Jedi were, in a sense, for the greater good and for citizens and innocents, for the Light Side of the Force, but the lack of self-preservation—!

Granted he couldn’t really speak, but it always made him a bit huffy and worried when Plo came back with various injuries that could have been avoided. Something he knew that also happened in the vice-versa with him.

It took Kit a moment to remember to call the 104th Medic on board, but as soon as he did, he had found the patches.

Plo had already started with a hacking cough by the time Kit made his way back to the Kel Dor, but he didn’t waste any time, propping the other up against his side and carefully inspecting the mask.

There— it was a small crack, enough to blend in with the scratches from the mission, but enough that oxygen had been leaking in since, well, Kit wasn’t sure for how long. But judging by how deep that cough was, it had been a while.

He sealed the crack with a patch, making sure the adhesive was fully sealed and that it covered the entire crack.

Even with the patch, though, what Plo needed was a nebulizer— though at this point, the medicine within one might be enough to soothe the raw pain from coughing and choking. A ventilator would be stronger, but Plo could clearly breathe still. He was just being poisoned slowly and—

Kit shook himself out of his thoughts when Plo jerked a bit, coughing lowly.

“Kit?”

It came out as more of a wheeze if anything, but Kit reached over, taking the Kel Dor’s still gloved hand and squeezing.

“I got you, Plo. Sinker and Ember will be here soon enough, and the boys are setting up a field for you to decompress in… a crack like that won’t keep you down, yeah?”

A wheezing chuckle came from Plo as he shifted, resting his head against Kit’s chest.

“Yes… you are… right…” he murmured, and Kit squeezed his hand again.

It was going to be fine.

Kit was more than he appeared to be, he knew healing to an extent and he had caught it in time. Plo would be okay.

Because Kit wasn’t an idiot and knew what to look for, because Plo was resilient, because Sinker and Ember were on their way.

Plo would be okay.

I knocked this out faster than I thought I would lol

Anyways, from what I gathered, Kit doesn't have a named Flagship so, here's the Renaissance. Aka the peak of artistic beauty— //smacked. Ahem. Anyways.

If you've been following me for a bit, you know that Ember is one of the 104th's medics, the other (head) medic being Ghost. Apparently, Sinker also has medic experience, but I don't remember seeing it in-show. Oh well. Flit showed up briefly in another fic I did and is Kit's battalion medic.

Not hate about the writing, but I did indeed get an Islamophobic comment once that tried to dismiss and insult my muslim mutuals/friends...

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yup. Someone stole Fractured Twists word for word, put it on their wattpad, and was replying to comments as if they had so much fun writing the whole thing, and when I called them out on it they deleted it.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I've got an idea for a political intrigue/grimdark fic that centers around a ROTS where Empress Amidala rises to power unwillingly and goes through a corruption arc. As the Bendu says - even the desire to do good can lead to great evil. I wanted to address issues such as her privilege as a former Queen and Senator on a wealthy planet, the privilege that Obi and Ani hold as Jedi and as humans, and how this could lead to them talking over those who don't hold the same thing.... it'd end up being a commentary on power and politics and privilege, but I don't think I have the time/effort to ever truly pull it off right.

What are your writing strengths?

I //think// dialogue? And imagery+phrasing?

What are your writing weaknesses?

Probably pacing, and sometimes losing track of details.

Honestly, an unpublished one (that's coming out soon in the Hope zine!) - it's a piece that centers around Baze and Chirrut and I wove a fuck ton of Chinese culture into that one, and it came out pretty solid, I think.

Thoughts on a Comment

Fandom creators need to do better:

I've said this before and I'll say this again: the clones are not only very human, they are also very capable men. One, military experience supplies individuals with a lot of technical experience and expertise--from mechanics to communication to team work to conflict resolution to medicine, etc. (Many post-war veteran transition policies focus on how the skills they learned are transferrable into civilian life.)

Two, they are, in fact, men. Grown men are quite capable of being self sufficient and and independent individuals. This whole, "The Clones know nothing about the world and are (sexually) inexperienced, so my white OC/fem-insert must show them the way" is gross. It's gross

The clones, canonically, go through a very intense and extensive training and education program on Kamino. They likely know more about the "world" than you do--from different languages to different ways to dress a wound to engineering to cultural exposure to strategy and problem-solving. The show--through it has many faults--went to lengths to demonstrate that Rex' and Fives' intelligence are not anomalous (as Krell would suggest) and that the clones are individual men.

I've mentioned before that many fic creators want to use this military experience to excuse their racist characterizations. That is weird. They attribute hostility to the Clones' nature (which very much gives racist ideas about indigenous people) and then have the audacity to suggest it's trauma--without ever actually exploring the way war trauma changes the mind and the way PTSD actually manifests in men. One of the ways I know this is just racism hiding behind mental health conditions as an excuse is because of how these creators talk about and think about Adam Driver. They offer him--a veteran--the emotional complexity typical of human beings. They don't characterize him as a brute and it's not nearly as common to see content about characters played by him being an inexperienced bb who needs someone to hold his hand and introduce him to the world.

When black, brown and indigenous creators have called attention to this, many white creators will try the "not I" method by insisting that they know all the clones are "good, brave, loyal men." One... you're still only characterizing them through ideas of authority (and their obedience to it). Two... you're still seeing them as one whole with one whole personality rather than as individuals. And Nibeul has covered this, extensively (go give them a follow, now).

What brought me to address this again, you might ask? Besides my feed being full of creators calling attention to this and this being an important topic, I woke up to a comment on a post of mine that was completely unrelated to this topic. The comment--which I have since deleted--was referring to a similar post I made when I reblogged a post by milf-obi-wan-kenobi.

This comment echoed some similar ones left on milf-obi-wan-kenobi's post: what if the writer "simply just" thinks the clones are hot and is interested in sexually dominant partners and d/s dynamics?

There is... just so much to unpack there. First--why does said writer only hc the Clones--all the clones--as sexually dominant (see: The Brute Trope and the Mandingo trope)? Second--do you not hear the way you are objectifying and sexualizing--fetishizing--them in your own words with "they simply just think the clones are hot?"

Third--how the hell do you think d/s dynamics work? The most important parts of any kink expression are: communication and consent. It is very telling that some of you think d/s dynamics is some strange-ass "size kink" bs where he towers over a simpering and meek femme and goes into a wild (the term they often use is feral) breeding mania.

And you see nothing--nothing--wrong with this? Nothing?

I do not identify as a domme (it invites some very strange men who have these strange non-con fantasies about "breaking" a woman and making her submissive). Every partner is different and my personal philosophy is that their consent, pleasure and comfort are paramount.

"Kink isn't something a dom does to you. Kink is something you do together." It is about trust and consent. There's a lot of shit I would never even consider simply on the basis of who my partner is. Social and historical ideas and conditions don't stop at the bedroom door. Without proper vigilance, sex can actually reproduce these very harmful ideas, conditions, and power imbalances. Romantic and sexual relationships do not occur in a vacuum.

Similarly, writing and media are not created in a vacuum. They are extensions of us, our world, and our ideas. These things aren't actually happening in a Galaxy far, far away. These are stories about our own human experience, and many of us grew up in societies dominated by white supremacy and misogyny. Many of our experiences are shaped by bigotry, to suggest otherwise is foolish.

Our society has a lot of problematic ideas about sex, including the idea that sex is something that men do to (white) women, not something (white) women participate in. (Our society has very different sexual tropes they ascribe to black, brown and indigenous women regarding them being seductresses.)

To answer your question, it's never "simply just."
