There's some dude (derogatory) on FB who is PISSED people are pricing their farm fresh eggs at $2 and $3 a dozen instead of $4+, saying it's "disrespectful" and "undignified" and "I'm trying to feed my kids" like Sir, you are on a Facebook group page bitching about your neighbors egg prices because your pet chickens aren't earning you a living wage and you think it's your neighbors' fault, you do not have a leg to stand on here wrt dignity.

Also half the answers are like "I give them to friends and family free" or "I donate them to food banks" or "I'm making them affordable to folks who might not otherwise be able to get them now that they're so expensive in the store" and "if you think you're going to turn a profit keeping backyard chickens you have been wildly misled" and so on, and so forth, and I'm so living for it.

and I can tell you right now, he did NOT like my answer of "if you're trying to feed your kids, I hear eggs are edible."

#chickens #like buddy you are never going to actually make a profit #and if by some miracle you do #it's going to be VERY SMALL #Considering the money you put into building or buying a coop #plus feed and bedding and equipment (waterers feeders perches etc) costs #egg cartons and enrichment and gas to go get the feed #the cost you (personally) probably put into building the egg stand you mentioned #a 50lbs bag of feed will feed 12 adult chickens for 8 days #12 chickens generally lay 6-12 eggs per day #usually less in the fall and may even stop in winter #a 50lb bag of feed is usually $12-15 #and you wasted the first 6 months going eggless until they were old enough to lay #and that doesn't factor in oyster shell or anything else you may need to do for them #like worming or treating for coccidia or anything #and doesn't take into account your time #like asjh;dsfkgdh you really thought you were gonna make a buck doing this???#wank for ts

one thing I have learned about being poor is that you cannot for a moment stop thinking about it

#theres no peace #every little thing reminds me we are poor #seeing friends having electricity wifi heat food gas. it all costs money. and bills and fees and charges happen all the damn time #im constantly worried that i am measing up somehow or im not keeping track of my finances properly #the person handling our disability assistance application keeps coming back with question after question about my job #and i have so much doubt and fear that ive made some mistake in my answers that will disqualify us from support #and theres this sick backwards stupid thing where applying for and being on disability support is discouraging me from trying to make money #because the more i make the less likely we'll get support but i need to make money to live #its just fucked. and once we're on support i have to make monthly reports of my income so ill feel like im explaining myself all the fuckin #time #cus the system isnt built in a way that makes sense for self employed ppl who have business expenses to account for #sorry for the ranting i cant sleep #truly truly i think poverty is making me a worse persin #more anxious more resentful more jealous more miserable more spiteful #i have so little and there is so little i can do to help it #i want things in a more desparate and even childish way than i used to eant things #spend a lot more time fantasizing about magically having expendable income #not to mention the constant exponential guilt that comes from asking for help or recieving help. its guilt i need to unlearn but i feel it

dawned on me that, for most intents and purposes, poor people can't even afford to go outside.

go out into your front yard for a minute and think about what you see. flat lawns whose owners are itching to yell at you, buildings clustered together, roads, maybe a sidewalk if you're lucky? hell, if you live in an apartment building, you don't even get the lawns to look at.

so what do you do? there isn't a park or open space within like four miles of you, and good luck if you want actual wilderness.

oh, you're gonna drive there? you need to make a quarter tank last til payday if you want to eat, so that won't fly. (this implies that you even own a car to begin with)

maybe you could walk somewhere closer? well, it's all giant stroads with little to no sidewalk space, so uh. good luck with that. also everywhere nearby is a store or a restaurant, which you can't afford right now.

fuck it, maybe there's something you can do in the lawn/parking lot? yeah no, your neighbors will act like you're a disturbance.

guess you'll just stay inside and rot, then.

Hi fellow Texan fantrollers please stay safe and stock up on water and general emergency supplies or the upcoming 6 - 10 days of well below avg weather!!

A lot of ppl are thinking this could be bad enough to knock out our power grid like I’m 2021, and I’ve seen signs of Smth Big coming what with stores near me selling out fast, and tips from family that work in bigger store companies like Walmart that they’re restocking/taking in extra inventory for emergency supplies (water, flashlights, etc).

Now I live in a pretty underfunded area of my city in the most populated region of Texas, I expect my power to go out at any time like it has been already with these big storms lately. We’ve already been dealing with damaged pipes bursting from the cold and water being turned off where I’m at, and stores near me keep selling out of water.

I’m not quite sure what to do myself, tbh. I’d feel bad asking for help in regards to money for emergency supplies, but I just might have to soon. I’ll wait n see a bit before exiting the post with a link (‘:

Hey friends, I really hate to have to ask this, but I just paid off the rest of the debt I owed from an insurance claim & in doing so I had to use my entire paycheck from today and what little was left in my savings (but I'm happy that I don't have to worry about that payment anymore).

I currently only have a few dollars left in my account. I'm good on food but my gas gauge is closing in on empty and I work the next 6 days straight. I really only need like $20-30 for gas to get me through to next Friday.

#ok so basically #grandma realized that she couldnt exert control over what i eat anymore (since i pay for basically ALL my food)#so now my WATER and GAS PRIVILEGES ARE BEING RESTRICTED #which is arguably worse!!!#i can show up hungry to work but stinky????#for context my total shower time of the ENTIRE WEEK is like 25 minutes. i take one long 10 minute shower on sundays to wash my hair #and even THEN half of them are with cold water because were nearing summer and i like them #for MORE CONTEXT #1. my parents give her money for bills 2. the government give her money for bills #and more importantly 3. trying to convince my parents to let me buy a moped. my mom said no its a bad idea for a week but then i showed her a gopro video of a guy reviewing the one i was thinking of after passing 3500 miles with it and now she wants one too. onto dad

#its just a lot more affordable than a car. saves money on gas. everywhere i go is usually within 10-20 minutes anyway. if i need to go to #the doctor downtown once every three months ill just pay $40 for an uber instead of $500 a month plus insurance for a car.#instead of $90 a month. thats just a no brainer. and i have the luxury of choosing to not have to go out in bad weather.#and if i did. again. itd still be cheaper to uber several more times a month back and forth than to buy a car #tldr. come on dad you used to be a biker. let me be a fag metrosexual version of one

Hey guys! It's November!

I'm still in very big need of this funding. In order to get a good job that I can work and make decent money at, I need my car. This is super important so that I can get back to making money that will allow me to not work paycheck to paycheck.
