Note
In certain parts of the world, the Zebra shark is called the Leopard shark. And the vice versa goes for the Leopard Shark.
Tumblr media
In order from top to bottom (not including my man Bernie Sanders):
Stegostoma tigrinum (Orectolobiformes; Stegostomatidae):
Tumblr media
Triakis semifasciata (Carcharhiniformes; Triakidae):
Tumblr media
Poroderma pantherinum (Carcharhiniformes; Scyliorhinidae):
Tumblr media
Idk which parts of the world you are referring to, but this should illustrate how dumb common names are, whether you are correct or not.
Here, we have S. tigrinum, which looks like a cheetah when it is an adult, but is called a zebra shark (reflecting its striping as a juvenile).
T. semifasciata, which looks like a tiger, but is called a leopard shark (children and adults at aquariums oft call T. semifasciata "tiger sharks").
P. pantherinum, which looks like a leopard and is in the catshark family, and its common name reflects that pleasingly.
Honorable mentions to Helaelurus natalensis (Carcharhiniformes; Scyliorhinidae) for being called a tiger catshark, for being in the catshark family and looking like a tiger.
Tumblr media
To Galeocerdo cuvier (Carcharhiniformes; Carcharhinidae) for looking like a tiger and a leopard, but being called a tiger shark.
Tumblr media
And to Poroderma africanum (Carcharhiniformes; Scyliorhinidae) for looking like a zebra and being a catshark, but instead breaks free from a common name comparing it to existing land species, and being called, instead, the pyjama catshark.

Hey there guys, gals, and non-binary mycopals!
Mycothaotix here, and this shall be my first post on my new, separated tumblr-blog. I was not able to respond to reblog questions and didnt have a way to impliment 'ask's on my previous blog (now titled: 'mycochaos-oldacnt-plzfollownew).
I have some visible old posts under the #mycochaotix tag that I usually use for all posts (and plan to continue to use).
I consider myself a Non-Binary, they/them/he/him mycophile and have started researching and cultivating in late 2021. I also serve as a moderator on the Contamination ID and Myco-advice subreddit r/ContamFam. On that platform, I am known as the Trich Hunter. I have a passion for studying all types of contamination (in addition to primarily researching basidiomycete fungi) because I believe that learning from failures and understanding what to avoid in research efforts are crucial for personal growth and reducing occurrences of contamination.
Please follow for more!
Message me on IG or Reddit with any questions; or to share your mycology successes and failures! 🍄 u/Dry_Cardiologist8370 IG: myco_chaotix Tumblr: myocochaotix

P. Natalensis, first flush of first tub - got some deformities, but I accept them into my harvest and stock like any other (as long as they arent rotted, or showing signs of contamination).
These fruits are very interesting in person... that attach lightly to the substrate, pulling up easily without tearing any substrate in large clumps.. like grass... the stipes are like... a pearlescent, shimmery white... and they actually FELT different in my fingers compared to p. cubensis varieties;
as I cover in an instagram reel, Natal is an isolated wild strain that has been confirmed as a separate, more contaminant resistant (and more vigorous) species Psilocybe natalensis (P. Natal).
The fruits matured fast, and sporulated within 6 hours (if not faster) of first noted veil break. The first photo in this set is 1 day before the rest of the photos in the set, for reference :)
Check my instagram for pics of the plates of the mycelium from these genetics... super, duper intense mycelium. Just... wow.
