Left this comment on a random instagram reel 6W ago, still getting queer and transphobic harassing comments from it. This is the most recent one. The missing comment not visible in the second picture) was one where the same person called me autistic as a slur and other harassing things that led to the comment being removed. But, im proud of my responses and hope this person does the work to become a better version of themselves than they portray in public IG comments 💯❤️🏳️‍⚧️⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Transmedicalism (may give some trans folkx validity) is mosty transphobic to me.
I’ve seen a handful of trans people (and lots of cis het transphobes cheering them on, ofc) saying some transphobic shit about this whole Planet Fitness ordeal of a pre transition transwoman shaving her legs in a womans bathroom, and I guess some cishet paremt left their 12 year old alone in the bathroom and now TERFs and Transphobes (cis and het transphobes) are piling onto this occurence as “SEE I TOLD YOU! WE HAVE TO FORCE ANYONE WHO SAYS THEY ARE TRANS TO GO THROUGH HORMONES AND SURGERY BEFORE WE SAY THEY ARE REALLY TRANS”.
Ive even had some cis friends call me in a panic about it.
Yall need to realize, there ARE trans prople who are transphobic and the anti trans movement LOVES those token trans people.
Tumblr media
(^Pic from source 2 below)
“Transmedicalism brings together unusual allies, some within the transphobic gender critical movement who see it as a useful tool in their quest to erase transgender people and their identities, and a minority within the community itself who believe that only those who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and who have completed surgical and other medical transition can truly be considered trans.
Claiming that gender dysphoria is intrinsic to having a transgender identity is a perspective that effectively erases the identity of a huge swathe of the transgender community, including non-binary people. It is also counter to any definition of being transgender outlined by public bodies and specialists, from:
The American Psychiatric Association (https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/gender-dysphoria)
to the NHS (https://www.england.nhs.uk/commissioning/spec-services/npc-crg/gender-dysphoria-clinical-programme/gender-dysphoria/)
Making gender dysphoria inherent to trans identity, experience, and indeed definitive to it, leads to a series of clearly untrue and indeed perverse conclusions.
It makes suffering intrinsic to trans identity and experience, something that is not only demonstrably untrue, but upon even a moment’s reflection, cruel as a framework. A person’s gender identity is not emergent from or dependent on trauma, and they don’t need to be subject to discomfort and suffering to ‘qualify’ as who they are.
It denies bodily autonomy and applies gatekeeping criteria to a person’s gender identity based on events to which they are physically and/or medically subjected.
It drags us back to a world where people claim that they can tell others who they are, what gender they experience, and undermine self-knowledge, with those requiring gender dysphoria as a ‘qualification’ of being trans claiming to control and define the gender identity and selfhood of others. This is in fact a component of transphobia and trans erasure, and a dangerous precedent for the community.”
^ Source 1: (https://www.gendergp.com/not-all-trans-people-experience-gender-dysphoria/
“Transmedicalism is a view of transgender identity that holds that experiencing dysphoria is required for ‘legitimate’ trans identity. This belief asserts that gender dysphoria, generally described as a feeling of distress originating from the incongruence between one’s assigned gender and gender identity, is a condition to be treated through medical intervention such as hormone therapy and gender affirming surgeries. Transmedicalism grounds transness in gender dysphoria, asserting that a lack of gender dysphoria is a lack of trans- ness.”
Further: “… transmedicalism is a nuanced framework of patholo- gizing transgender identity that depends on and perpetuates systems of oppression, intracommunity conflict, and limited visibility of trans subjects.”

Imo: Without microscopy one cant give truely accurate ID for this level of organism growth. It does look like mycelial hyphae of a fungal colony, but doesnt seem to be mature enough to have visible hyphae pigmentation nor spore build up leading to visible pigmentation. Further, i dont see usual molds signs of dematiaceous molds (usually dark dusty surface texture). Youll have let his grow out longer and let it mature to get a more accurate assessment of it as far as an ID :)

Mycopal asks about: Beneficial Color blind dye additions to agar
MCX response: Your best best would be a color that provides high contrast between expected mushrooom myc and other contams. Knowing that most fungal contams have white ish myc before sporulating and many bacteria are lightly pigmented (brown, yellow, grey, red hues often)—- Perhaps a color on the opposite end of the spectrum from these common hues would provide the highest contrast. One option could be a deep blue or violet dye, as these colors tend to stand out prominently against the lighter shades commonly found in fungal and bacterial growth. Additionally, these colors are less likely to be confused with natural pigments produced by microorganisms, ensuring clarity in identifying contaminants.

Any advice on p nats? Trying to grow them for the first time and my tubs are all covered in thick overlay. Only getting a few fruits to pop through on the sides.
Hey mycopal! Thanks for the question! I’ve seen many who work with P Nats say that they experience overlay more than with Cubensis! I’ve been fortunate that my strain isolated haven’t seemed prone to that. Imo: if you are getting overlay, a good step is to increase your fresh air input while maintaining 90% humidity. You can mist walls as they dry, but don’t mist the mycelium directly to not bruise nor splash spread unseen microbes :) If you increase the fresh air early on when observing mycelial surface shifting to overlay, i believe this will slow it down and or reverse it :) overlay is, afaik, a colony defense mechanism most often response to environmental inadequacies, with less likely but possible: contam response. If the overlay is… hardened, for lack of better word, your best options are either fork scrape or fork perforation :) if you are going to scrape, take a fresh plastic fork, spray with iso let to dry, then gently scrape the surface layer of overlay and sort of… redistribute it evenly over the surface, then cover with a loose .25” casing layer of substrate :) if perforating, which is what i prefer, do same with the fork except instead of scraping, you gently poke holes into the overlay, only far enough to peirce the overlay mat, exposing the substrate and inner mycelial strands often directly under overlay, to fresh air and humidity dropping down the newly created holes :) — no casing needed for this method and this method can lead to pins forming inside the holes and fruiting occurs albeit it maybe more confined but still comes up out the holes :)
Any follow up Q? Hope this helps!

Random IG person asks: If we restrict access to certain books, aren't we playing the same game as the right-wing book banning?
MCX Responds:
imo: restricting access to books that promote hate speech and discrimination is not the same as banning books advocating for equality and justice. It's about protecting marginalized communities from harm while upholding the values of inclusivity and tolerance. further: banning pro queer and/or pro minority books, media, etc actually suppresses voices advocating for equality and justice, which contradicts the principles of free speech and diversity. Banning books that promote bigotry, hate, racism, etc is mostly done to prevent the spread of hate speech and ideologies that promote discrimination and violence against certain groups

Capturing images of my P. #Natalensis #graveyard tub before relocating it to my fruiting shelf, I stumbled upon this specific fruiting body and its vivid illustration of a #saprophyte's relentless tendency to devour and proliferate. It's fascinating to witness how it zealously consumes even its own remnants, those lingering fruiting bodies left to wither between flushes. Moreover, the withering fruiting bodies seem to undergo a transformation, with their tissue reverting to exploratory #mycelium, as evidenced by the broken stipe and the mycelium trailing down its back in the photo.

Okay so. I see a lot of uninformed people in the intersex tag so here's a little bit of information about being intersex.
We are not 'biologically nonbinary', it's actually fairly rare for us to be assigned X at birth, the majority of us are given an assigned sex.
Intersex is a catch-all for a huge number of variations, so there is no singular 'intersex body', in fact a large number of us do not have ambiguous genitalia.
You cannot transition to become intersex. You can transition to have a mix of sex characteristics. The current most accepted word for this I've seen is Salmacian. Because intersex is an umbrella term for many many variations and conditions, saying this is similar to saying you'd like to transition to being autistic or having EDS.
A lot of us go through medical abuse in childhood, including forced hormone replacement therapy and gender reassignment surgeries, often as infants. I, for example, was forced onto estrogen as a teenager. This is something we are still fighting to make illegal without impacting trans youths access to treatment.
Not every intersex person is trans. Just like everyone else, we can be cis or trans or feel a mix of the two. Some of us are just intersex and aren't interested in further labels.
Being intersex is not really that rare. Most estimates put it about as common as red hair or green eyes. Some estimates even higher.
And finally, because I am genuinely stunned by the amount of people that don't know this. Hermaphrodite is an intersexist slur. You should not be using it if you are not intersex.
That concludes my post. Good faith questions are welcomed, and it's easy to find more information through places like interACT and the (albeit outdated) ISNA website.
